One Dress a Day Challenge
June: Brown Redux
Belgravia (s1 e1) / Naomi Frederick as the Duchess of Bedford
This scene is set at one of the Duchess' novel new "afternoon tea parties" in 1841. She's wearing what looks like a silk dress, with a floral pattern, trimmed with lace. The V-shape on the bodice is very typical for the 1840s.

Recommendation: Belgravia & Belgravia: The next chapter.
So, I've been on holidays and finding myself with more free time I had been missing my preferred way of entertaining myself, that is a good historical romance book or period drama TV show.
Feeling kind of barefooted after finishing The Bridgertons new season (not my cup of tea by the way, in my honest opinion big downgrade from season 2 and season 1 not to mention Queen Charlotte series, it's like the show goes downwards without brakes each new season making it worse than the previous one. Same as in OL actually. I think it's because success gets to their heads and they feel more confident to take new licences that diverge from the original material, which they shouldn't because that in the end affects the essence of your product that was the main reason why it was being successful in the first place).
But I disgrees, the thing is I was looking for something to watch as I wait for The Buccaneers and OL new seasons (to tell you the truth I'm only interested in watching Claire and LJG fucking) and accidentally I came across Belgravia. I took a look and said why not, let's give it a try. At first I confess it felt a bit weird, used as I am now to the modern view in Bridgertons this felt a whole lot more somber and classic. I went on watching and overcame that initial weirdness when I adjusted to their way of storytelling and I actually enjoyed the first series very much. It was refreshing seeing that there are still a few ways in which one can be surprised by unexpected plot twists.
So I was already happy with my choice, and along came The Next Chapter. Oh my. I binge-watched the whole thing last night and I'm also happy to discover there's no need to always have splicit sex scenes or very much sexual passion on screen to ship an onscreen couple. I was hooked watching the raw pain that's witnessing Friedrick and Clara's relationship throughout the episodes, always understanding both sides and sympathising with them.
The icing on the cake has been finding out that the main actress who plays Clara is the one playing Ellen Fraser on the new show Blood of my Blood. I liked her immensely as Clara and I think she's gonna be perfect as Ellen so I'm looking forward to getting a glimpse of what they do with that.
So, if you haven't seen it yet and you feel like watching something new along these lines (love story, romance, period drama, suspense, a few plot twists...) and you aren't worried about missing the raunchiest stuff from OL or Bridgertons then I suggest you give these shows a try.
Let me know if you do or what your thoughts are if you have already seen it!
♥️

rewatching sherlock and i forgot how much i hate ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’.
people asked if sherlock was gay and they said ‘no he’s purely asexual he has no feelings for men especially not john they aren’t gay’ (despite the fact sherlock is clearly queer. you can be queer and asexual)
people asked if sherlock was in love with irene adler and they said ‘yes i think so, he was infatuated with her and they were in love and sherlock was attracted to her’ (or at least avoiding the question, hinting about it and making it glaringly obvious they’re in love with eachother)
people complained about how queer sherlock season 1 was and everyone decided it would be better off for sherlock to be ambiguously straight instead. similar to when benedict said sherlock isn’t autistic <3

The lush British costume drama, Belgravia: The Next Chapter, from Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes has undergone a few changes since 2020. The setting is still the posh London enclave of the title, but it’s 1871 — 30 years later — and most of Season 1’s characters have died. The spotlight is now on Lord Frederick Trenchard (Benjamin Wainwright), grandson of the original Belgravia’s wealthy, social-climbing merchant James Trenchard.
Frederick was badly abused by his father, James’ son Oliver (the returning Richard Goulding, shown in flashbacks with Alice Eve, another returnee, as wife Susan). The reason? Frederick’s real father is the cad John Bellasis (Adam James). Never told about his illegitimate birth, the insecure, self-loathing young lord blames his inability to love on his younger brother, James (Toby Regbo, The Last Kingdom). “James was always the favorite child,” says exec producer Gareth Neame. “That completely destroyed Frederick.”
Still, Frederick believes — maybe incorrectly — that his spirited and beautiful new wife, Clara (Harriet Slater), can help him overcome his demons. But according to Neame, “They’re too strong.… Clara feels oppressed by her husband and trapped in that marriage.” And Frederick doesn’t help the situation, as he’s obsessed with his risky investments in the future of railroads and partnering with the unconventional Marquise DÉtagnac (Claude Perron), a moneyed French exile and an astute businesswoman.
Lord Trenchard is not, of course, the only one with a secret. His brother James, in reality a kindly reverend and not the monster Frederick imagines, struggles with his forbidden sexuality.
But there’s a truth-teller in this Chapter: An unexpected visitor could blow up several characters’ lives with just a few words.

Toby Regbo - Reverend James Trenchard
"Toby Regbo's Reverend James Trenchard is Frederick's brother who becomes a priest.
James and Frederick have been estranged and are no longer on speaking terms. Despite that, James leaves a wedding gift to Frederick, much to the surprise of his family.
In Episode 1, James tries his best to mend his relationship with his brother.
Harry Potter fans may recognize Regbo for his role as a young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The actor also appeared in Mr. Nobody, Treasure Island, and One Day.
Hannah Onslow - Emily Dunn
Hannah Onslow is part of the cast of The Next Chapter as Emily Dunn.
Emily is Clara's older sister who is slightly jealous that she is getting married and she's not. She also protects Clara since she believes that Frederick will only hurt her.
Desperate to find love, Emily suddenly gets attracted to Frederick's brother, James Trenchard.
Onslow's notable credits include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ridley Road, The Doll Factory, and Empire of Light."

‘Suspect’ Season 2: Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig, Eddie Marsan & More Join Channel 4-Britbox International Drama Series
By Jesse Whittock
November 15, 2023 7:20 am
Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan are among the names joining Anne-Marie Duff on season 2 of Channel 4 and BritBox International drama series Suspect.
Filming on the drama’s second run is underway, with Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point, The Lazarus Project), Eddie Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Ray Donovan), Celine Buckens (Showtrial, The Ex-Wife), Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy, For Life) and Gina McKee (Bodyguard, Our Friends in the North) joining Cooper (Preacher, Mamma Mia!), Greig (Friday Night Dinner, Belgravia) and Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Ray Donovan).
Duff (Bad Sisters, The Salisbury Poisonings) stars in the series as Dr Susannah Newman. In the eight-part series, she is on a desperate quest to track down a self-confessed serial killer before he kills again that night. When a mysterious new client Jon (Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.
I’m so pleased to be returning to Suspect to be able to dig deeper into the character of Dr Susannah Newman,” said Duff. “Expect lots of twists, turns and revelations alongside more questions to be answered. I can’t wait for viewers to see what we’ve done with the second series.”
Suspects comes from Professor T and Before We Die producer Eagle Eye Drama and is written by Joy Wilkinson (Lockwood & Co, The Watch) and David Allison (The Couple Next Door, Marcella). It is for UK network Channel 4, whose outgoing Head of Acquisitions Nick Lee bought it, and co-produced by BritBox International for the U.S. and Canada. The eight-part drama is being distributed internationally by Fremantle and will air in 2024.
Ben Wadey, Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Eagle Eye Drama again to be bringing back Suspect for a second series. With Anne-Marie Duff returning as Dr Susannah Newman plus a truly spectacular ensemble cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan, Channel 4 viewers are truly in for a ride when this hits our screens.”
Reemah Sakaan, CEO BritBox International and executive producer added: “I am absolutely delighted that such a stellar ensemble cast is joining the incredible Anne-Marie Duff to tell the next chapter of Suspect Season 2. Joy Wilkinson and David Allison have delivered brilliant scripts and I know our BritBox International viewers in the US will be gripped from start to end.”
Carolina Giammetta (Before We Die, Hollington Drive) will direct. Eagle Eye’s Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino are the executive producers and Dylan Rees (Heartstopper, Alice & Jack) is the series producer. Sakaan and Stephen Nye are the executive producers for Britbox International, which acquired the series following a deal brokered by Fremantle’s Lisa Honig, EVP Distribution North America.
Suspect is adapted from the Danish original Forhøret (Face to Face), which was created by Christoffer Boe and written by Christoffer Boe and Anna Juul. The original series was produced by Miso Film, a Fremantle company, and executive produced by Boe, Jonas Allen and Peter Bose who also serve as executive producers on Suspect.
The series has been produced in association with Happy Duck Films and the Belgian Tax Shelter. Fremantle handles global sales.
SH is not in “Suspect” 2 in association with Happy Duck Films🦆 his character seems to still be in a very deep stage of coma since Suspect 1 💁♀️
The interesting thing is there are various British actors who have played relevant character parts, a competent group to work with Happy Duck Films. The actors who pivot from films to TV or the other way around are large. As you can see there are plenty of choices.😉
Dominic Cooper is so talented, he's very witty. So a perfect package! his Ian Fleming role was his best.

One Dress a Day Challenge
October: Silver Redux
Belgravia (episode 6) / Ella Purnell as Lady Maria Grey
While I'm normally with FrockFlicks when it comes to the death of fashion, I don't mind the 1840s when they're done like this.
I'm not sure whether this is truly an afternoon dress, with that open neckline, or more of an evening thing; but Maria is posing for a portrait, so she can be forgiven if it's a little early in the day to be wearing it. This also means we get a view of the dress in decent lighting, for which I am grateful. Unfortunately, we never get a back view, though. The fall of lace at her wrists is a nice feature. And that hairstyle looks cute on her!
The costume designer for this series was James Keast.
