happy (probably belated by the time you're seeing this) halloween! i forgot i had these photos and wanted to share this gorgeous and very large spider i found on a trip a couple years ago! if you've got the time i'd love an id for this friend, though no worries if not! location was the virgin islands

Doctor Who status report! and from a couple other shows too because we are both head over heels in love with David Tennant and are watching all his body of work lmao

Alright so we finished DW S5 and are two episodes into S6 and I'll say 11th has grown on me a lot since my last report! Matt is so cute! we enjoyed the episode "The Lodger" it had some of that feeling I was missing from the previous seasons I think, and the two final episodes of S5 were cool!! And S6 started strong with the first two-parter, we are...so confused but in a good way? It's different and the writing quality wobbles but we are enjoying it very much nonetheless! I do feel like some of the values and handling of certain topics has been inconsistent since the writer swap so it feels a bit strange sometimes but it's still early so we'll wait and see! OH and the christmas special was so lovely!!

Then we also watched "Casanova" BBC 2005 miniseries for David and IT WAS SO GOOD honestly we were not expecting much and we both ended up crying lmao, it's also so funny!!

And we also watched "Around the World in 80 days" 2021!! It may not be very loyal to the book but it's great on it's own and so adorable and fun and SO BEAUTIFUL!! the locations, the costumes!! David's Phileas Fogg is the most loveable pathetic wet cat of a man just the absolute babygirlest I've seen him, this show was made for me I swear to god I was clutching my knees the whole season, please watch it!! I think it's getting a second season inspired by Twenty thousand leagues under the seas? I hope it does 🥺

Oh and belated Happy Halloween!! I didn't manage to draw anything for it this year but we did dress up as Edwardian vampires and went out! I think half of Madrid asked to take a picture with us and yet I didn't take any good ones askjfh but it was so fun, everyone was so nice to us 😭 The weather also got very cold and rainy all of a sudden and we are elated!! it's wool coat, gloves, hats and boots season again, I'm at my most powerful!!

Anyway I go back to drawing for now, hopefully I will be able to squeeze in some fanart and photos soon 😊

🎂 Happy (Belated) Birthday, Nellie! 🎂

NOTE: Photos were taken on Nellie’s actual birthday, the 15th, I just only got around to posting them now 😅

On Sunday, everyone got into their Halloween costumes… except Nellie, who didn’t have one. When Samantha had asked her earlier that month what she’d like to be for Halloween, Nellie had confessed that she didn’t want to dress up as anything scary or supernatural. When Samantha asked what she did want to be, Nellie told her quietly that ever since Samantha’s family had adopted her and her sisters, she’d secretly felt a little like a princess. “Like Cinderella,” she muttered, blushing, clearly feeling it was a silly idea. Sam had assured her it wasn’t, and had talked to Marley about it, but nothing more had been said, and Nellie thought Marley had probably forgotten. She began to worry Marley had forgotten about her birthday, too, as the day passed and Marley showed no indication of any celebration. She wasn’t really too upset about the lack of a party — back when her family was struggling, she’d had many birthdays pass without presents or cake — but she felt a little sad to think that no one, even Sam, seemed to have remembered.

But when she saw Samantha in her Ghost Bride costume, Nellie couldn’t help but smile. “You look really pretty,” she told Sam.

“I don’t want to be pretty! I’m supposed to be spooky!” Samantha retorted, straightening her veil.

“Well, I think you’re pretty spooky!” Nellie giggled.

But just when Nellie was resigned to the idea of not having a birthday party this year… Marley and Samantha shared a grin, and told her to close her eyes. Nellie’s heart soared — they had remembered! She heard rustling and giggles. “Can I look yet?” she asked, opening one eye. “No peeking!” Samantha admonished, covering Nellie’s eyes with her hands. After what felt like a long time, Nellie heard Marley’s voice: “Okay… now!”

Samantha stepped back as Nellie opened her eyes to see a cake covered in delicate flowers of pink icing, two cups of tea for her and Samantha, and a gift bag with a pink bow and the words Happy Birthday printed on it in gold. "Ohh!" she cried happily.

Nellie reached into the bag…

The first thing she pulled out was a silver crown!

When she saw the next item — a pair of shoes covered with sparkling rhinestones — Nellie gasped and grinned. “I think I know what this is!”

And of course, she was right.

There was even a pumpkin treat basket to finish the ensemble!

“How do I look?” Nellie asked Samantha shyly.

Samantha took her hand. “Like a princess,” she said, and kissed her cheek softly.

Cuddled up on Marley’s bed, the girls drank their tea and watched Cinderella on Disney+ (Nellie had never seen the Disney movie before, just heard the story; she loved it!).

2014 VoicePlay fall travels — school tour, and festivals, and cruising, oh my!

VoicePlay didn't have an extended tour scheduled for the autumn months, but that doesn't mean they were just sitting at home. (They did get some time at home, though, which is a good thing.) Their adventures were simply shorter and more varied.

RPI homecoming show

As part of Resselaer Polytechnic Institute's homecoming weekend in upstate New York, VoicePlay and pal Emoni Wilkins headlined "An Evening of A Cappella" with the university's student a cappella groups, Duly Noted, Partial Credit, The Rusty Pipes, and the Rensselyrics. Before the show, they were the guests of honor at a meet-and-greet for alumni of the student groups and the RPI glee club.

Pennsylvania school tour

When VoicePlay performed at APAP in January 2014, they caught a number of eyes, including those of executive director Rob Steele from the Williamsport Community Arts Center in Pennsylvania. He sought out their booth at the convention, and was impressed by their commitment to educational outreach.

So when mid-October rolled around, VoicePlay and Emoni set off for a whirlwind week of workshops at all eight school districts in Lycoming County. They visited two schools per day, culminating with a Friday student matinee and an evening concert at the Williamsport CAC. Since filming the fourth season of The Sing-Off the previous summer and the ensuing tour in the spring had greatly reduced the guys' ability to schedule time with students for nearly a year, they were excited to have some concentrated kid time.

Bridgeport show

After bidding farewell to Emoni, the guys made a quick jaunt to Bridgeport, CT for one more show — complete with a theater pooch and tiled dressing room — before heading home.

Home time

After eight days of shows and workshops, flights and van rides, the guys got to enjoy two weeks at home with minimal interruptions. They did pop down to Miami for a charity event (with some very cool decor) that happened to coincide with Earl's birthday. In a belated anniversary celebration, Earl and Nick got tattoos of each other's voice waveforms. And, of course, they had to celebrate Halloween.

Cruising

At the beginning of November, VoicePlay hit the road — and the skies and the seas — once more. They fit in a quick Caribbean cruise gig before heading back north.

Kettering National A Cappella Festival

When they got off the ship, the boys jetted up to Dayton, Ohio for one of the biggest student a cappella festivals in the country. After headlining the Friday night concert, they spent Saturday running master class sessions with various high school groups. The Saturday night concert was headlined by Street Corner Symphony, who the guys would soon get to know better on the upcoming 2015 Sing-Off tour.

A member of Marlington High School's Dukes of Harmony documented the weekend in video, including a couple clips and photos of VoicePlay.

Back and forth

The boys popped home for a few days to do a couple corporate gigs — one of which will get its own post — before returning to Ohio for another weekend of shows and workshops. (Though Geoff did get a little concerned when a TSA officer at the Orlando airport recognized him after so many frequent trips.)

Wittenberg University show

VoicePlay performed a concert as part of the Wittenberg Series, with collegiate groups Just Eve and Wittmen Crew opening for them. The next day, they held a master class workshop for the students, who then followed them down the road to the next festival.

Ohio Wesleyan A Cappellooza

The second annual A Cappellooza brought together collegiate vocal groups from across the state. Participants included Denison University, Oberlin College, Wittenberg University, and the University of Akron, in addition to OWU itself. Given that year's theme of Disney music, VoicePlay were a natural fit as professional headliners for the night.

Celebrating love at home

The guys escaped the frozen north, and capped off November by playing local weddings on the last two weekends before finally taking some time off to spend the holidays with their families.
