Shaving for Beginners
When you've never shaved before, the idea is intimidating. The idea of cutting yourself shaving is scary, and the amount of options at the store for equipment can be overwhelming.
So! Here's an overview of getting started and what to expect. I'm assuming here that you'll be buying things at a brick and mortar store.
Preface: I'm Scared of Cutting Myself!
This is one of those things that's scarier in concept than it is in practice, for a couple reasons.
The kind of razor you can buy easily at the store is something called a safety razor. It uses a cartridge with multiple blades to distribute pressure more evenly against your skin and make it significantly harder for you to cut yourself by accident. With a safety razor, you'll almost never cut yourself unless the blades get dull.
Cutting yourself doesn't actually hurt. The cuts are so small that you don't really feel them at all, and you're more likely to notice them from the blood than from the sensation.
Shaving cuts bleed more than you might expect on account of being on your face, but it's still not very much. Sensation-wise, they end up stinging very slightly, comparable to a very small scrape. The worst thing they do is make small red spots that make it more obvious you shaved in the first place.
Picking a Razor
At the drugstore (or any store with a personal hygiene section), you can find disposable razors and reusable handles and blades. In this post, I'm going to focus on the reusable kind.
You'll probably see the razors divided into "men's" and "women's" razors. They're more or less the same aside from packaging and aesthetics; the main difference between them is the pink tax. So! Go for a "women's" razor if you need to for gender/dysphoria reasons, otherwise a "men's" razor will get the same job done for less money.
Once you've decided between "genders," the next thing to do is select a brand for your handle. You'll need to buy matching blade cartridges for it so this is a bit of a commitment, but worst comes to worst you can always just buy a new handle. Personally I'm satisfied with my least expensive option, but if you care about getting a "nicer" one you can look at reviews online.
After picking a brand, there's only one more decision to make before you can actually take something off the rack: what blade count you want for your cartridges. More blades is allegedly a smoother shave, but this isn't a huge deal. Also as long as you're staying with the brand you picked, you should be able to switch between types of cartridge, so there's no commitment here. Again I like saving money, so I just buy whichever cartridges are cheaper.
I started out with one handle and one box of replacement cartridges when I made my first purchase, but your handle should come with a couple cartridges to start you off so you don't need to buy your first replacements at the same time if you don't want to.
Picking a Shaving Cream
Shaving cream makes your shave smoother and decreases your chances of nicking yourself. I shave dry so I can't give you a personalized overview of this, but it's more or less the same process as picking any other product that goes on your skin. Research your options if you care about getting The Best One, but as long as it doesn't have any ingredients you're sensitive to you should be good with whatever.
Your razor and shaving cream are the only things you need to buy. The rest of this is about the process of shaving itself.
Assembling Your Razor
This is pretty easy, but I want to go over it quickly for completeness.
There are two pieces: the handle, and the cartridge. The handle has a little metal bit at the end, and the cartridge has a part that sticks up a bit. Hold your cartridge in one hand, and stick the metal bit on the handle into it with the other hand. Once that's done, you can pull the cartridge out of the plastic guard it comes in, and your razor is ready.
To change cartridges, eject your current one by pushing the button on your razor and then put in your new one the same way you did the old one. You'll want to do this about every 5-7 shaves.
Shaving Itself
Get a bit of shaving cream in your hand, add water, and work it into a lather, then work it into your hair where you want to shave.
Once that's done, take your razor and work in small strokes against the grain of the hair.
After you've finished shaving, rinse out the shaving cream from your razor, wipe your face off with a wet washcloth, and clean up the fallen hairs so they don't clog the sink.
Thatse it :)

One of your mid-week tasks to complete with Seokjin was to make some traditional kimchi, and before you had started, you were already excited. Actually, you found it quite coincidental that this would be assigned to you. When the cameras were off, Seokjin had led a bored atmosphere into an in-depth conversation about food. You learnt quickly that it was just one of his better traits; always feeling the need to lighten the mood.
To spread the added seasonings evenly, you’d poured the masses of chopped vegetables into a larger bowl of the floor. He slid his hands into plastic gloves and used all the strength of his arms to begin to churn the contents. As Seokjin began to act as a human whisk, you added additional ingredients to enhance the seasoning you’d already added. Picking up two chopsticks, you selected a small radish slice and fed it to him, “How is it?”
His playful moaning and emphasised nodding earned a chuckle from you. However as you were laughing at his honest reaction, you noticed his face begin to fall and almost twist in agitation. You watched as his arms begin to slow in their process, and so reached for the box of gloves to help him out, “You don’t need to worry, I’m okay!”
You frowned and swatted the air to make him remove his hands, “It’s fine, let me have a go.” He retracted his hand from the bowl and you plunged yours in their place. As you continued to stir, you looked up habitually to see Seokjin smiling, seemingly adoring you, “What?”
Seokjin’s smile softened as you picked up on his diverted attention, “You’re just... sweet,” you puffed a strand of hair away from your eyes, and watched it continue to fall back down as you pondered on his words. The rustling of his glove led to an uncovered hand reaching out for your face. As you paused in your churning, Seokjin pushed the loose hair behind your ear and admired your blushing cheeks, “There you go. Shall I have a turn now?”

As mildly introverted people, it had taken a little more than a few hours to fully open yourself to Yoongi’s company, more particularly to make any conversation you shared less awkward. After reverting back to childhood memories and a mutual love of the same films, Yoongi was quickly warming up to your presence.
It was strange to have to fake romance with another idol, especially with so many cameras. Kindling chemistry made your task much easier. Several days into your ‘marriage’, it was clearly time to shop for food items and other essentials, and as hesitant as he seemed, you were determined to make shopping as enjoyable for Yoongi as you could.
Without asking, he offered to push the trolley around the store and followed you diligently as you conferred on what to buy. At the very end of your journey, you spotted a large pack of bottled water that would easily have been enough for the rest of your time together. You shuffled and leaned down to the bottom shelf where the pack sat and slivered your fingers underneath to lift it, “Do you want some help with that?”
“Nope,” you grunted, struggling to lift it any further than a centimetre from the shelf. It was heavier than you’d anticipated, “actually, yeah.”
You grunted as Yoongi came to your rescue. He pulled up on the plastic packaging and aided you in placing it in the trolley, “Move your fingers,” he said. You looked at him strangely, and he smiled at your knitted brows, “they’ll get crushed! Move them!”
He jokingly scolded you, prompting you to tease a pout, “Don’t look at me like that!” He smiled, dodging your eye contact, “I’m only looking out for you.”

To wind down one evening, you made a joint effort to create a mini campfire in the yard. A small firepit, wood blocks and marshmallows was just enough to make a winter evening in the countryside more enjoyable.
On the backyard sofa, you reclined next to Hoseok. A blanket draped over your legs, but that along with the fire wasn’t enough to warm you up, “Are you cold? Here, take my jacket.” Hoseok offered, unzipping his branded winter coat.
You leaned away from him, rejecting his offer, “No way. It’s below freezing, keep it on. Could we share? Instead?” You nodded towards the blankets that kicked over both of your laps, and began to divide them more equally over you.
“Come a bit closer,” Hobi insisted, lifting his corner of the fabric to invite you under. You smirked at his natural generosity, and it wasn’t until he met your eyes that he noticed, “or morph into an iceberg if you’d like. Really, let me keep you warm.”
To add performance for the hidden cameras in the garden, you rested your head slowly on his shoulder. Hoseok, without much pause, slung his arm around you and shuffled his hand against your thick cardigan, “Comfy enough?”
You nodded in satisfaction, “Perfect!”

For a segment in an episode, you and Namjoon had chosen face masks as an activity to complete. As a self-proclaimed skin care fanatic, you were more than excited to pamper the man who had quickly become a close friend of yours.
To emphasise the couple chemistry, Namjoon sat opposite you, crouched onto a small wooden stool identical to yours. His chestnut hair was pushed back, tucked away under a bright yellow headband, exposing his tanned forehead to your silicon brush, “Let me know if it tickles too much.”
Your prewarning was met with a dimpled smile as you started to spread the cleansing mixture across his risen cheeks. Rose pink clay pleasingly matched his dark eyes that could only focus on you. As you carefully distributed the face pack over his skin, you couldn’t help but grin at his widened eyes that followed yours so diligently, “You know, the more you look at me like that, the more I’ll have to believe you have a thing for me.”
Namjoon giggled softly, looking away from you for the first time since you’d begun, “What if I did?”
You looked down at your lap, flattered at his response. If you’d learnt anything about Namjoon in the past few days, it was that his tone of voice changed when his sincerity was meant to be heard, “Well then, that’s something for us to discuss when there isn’t a camera across the room.”

It had been a while since you’d spent so long away from your dorm and your members; you couldn’t help but feel slightly homesick. The kind of homesick that kept you up at night was the worst. To stop you from stirring around in the sheets and waking Jimin, you hung your legs over the side of the bed and stared into the blackness.
“Everything alright over there?” A sudden, raspy groan startled you. Jimin had followed you in sitting up in his place, rubbing his eyes that were still adjusting to the darkness.
“Hmm? Yeah, just a little homesick. I didn’t mean to wake you up.” You whispered, wrapping the duvet over your legs. The night camera should’ve stopped filming a few hours ago, but Jimin and you still weren’t close enough to be completely open around one another.
Jimin’s fluffly morning cheeks fell at your confession, “Can I help at all? I really hate to see you down.” He spoke softly, and yet you knew he meant what he said. For someone you’d known for less than a week, his compassion was surprising but sweet.
You stuttered, looking for any way to tell the time. Midnight was far behind you, and the summer sun was yet to rise, “Don’t worry about the time. Whatever I can do to make things better for you, I will.”

Filming such a programme in autumn had its benefits in what activities it made available. In addition to it being your favourite season, you’d learnt that Taehyung grew up in a similar setting to you. Daegu suburbs hid many roads that led to farms and orchards, where both you and Taehyung had spent many hours picking harvestables and chasing younger siblings.
As the director had learned of this shared memory, she organised an opportunity for you to recreate your childhood together. An apple and pear orchard waited on the outskirts of Seoul for you, “If they’re big enough, I can make you an apple pie?” Your promise to Taehyung had spawned a determination to make the most of a chance you hadn’t had in years.
After your basket was near enough full with apples, you’d spent your remaining minutes searching for larger ones to pluck. The perfect green apple hung just a bit too high for your grasp, and watching your struggle, Taehyung approached you from behind, “Need a lift?”
As you nodded, Taehyung squatted to wrap his arms around your legs and raise you up to the branch where you were able to take the apple that had caught your eye. Placing you back on your feet was less successful as you stumbled upon meeting the ground. A small shriek led to his hand catching your back , securing your balance. A heavy sigh of relief hooked a smile, “You didn’t think I’d let you fall, did you? I’d never let you get hurt when you’re with me.”
JJK
When your time together with Jungkook was coming to an end, you chose to spend a night at a karaoke bar. As you both owned the title of main vocalist in your groups, friendly competition couldn’t be missed.
To make it fair, you agreed on the same ballad to see who could score higher, and your winning score of 96 was enough to induce all of the excuses from Jungkook, “I let you win to ease you into the competition! Good luck in the next round.”
Many different verses and choruses later, and the tie between you was clear. To finish the hour you’d paid for, Jungkook suggested a ballad duet. You took the red lyrics and he took the green. The enchanting mixture of melodies coated the room with a romantic aura; you couldn’t help but switch between the lyrics and Jungkook’s eyes.
“That was really... something.” A shy grin closed the music as you returned your microphone to it’s slot. From award shows and concerts you’d attended before, you knew well that his vocals were stunning. But if you knew that yours could match so well with his, you would have suggested a karaoke much, much sooner.
“It really was. Maybe we could slip into a studio sometime? I heard you write songs.” How he’d heard that was unknown to you, but you were more than glad that he did.

Dragon Ball Super and the Future
by Bunnypwn Gold
I am a huge fan of Dragon Ball, as I have stated here before and as I have written about in the past. My love and knowledge of this franchise is deep, and I will always be ready to enjoy what it has in store and wrestle with the ideas in it. And right now, it’s a great time to be a fan, because Dragon Ball Super is going strong. The anime has come to a conclusion and/or could come back in the future, and the manga is approaching the climax of its newest story, the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. It’s amazing for a lot of reasons that I’ll discuss as I respond to this article by Kofi Outlaw, which praises the saga for going back to DBZ style storytelling as a “course correction.” While I agree with several points in this article, I also disagree with the basic premise and argue that the author is only saying these things about the saga because he has not been paying attention to how consistently better the manga has been than the anime of Super. I am using this response to organize my thoughts on how Super has gone so far, the divide between the anime and manga version of events, and the future of the series as a whole, not as a pro or anti stance against Kofi or his article, to be clear.
At the beginning, Kofi criticizes Super for having low stakes and focusing on making Goku and Vegeta the sole focus, increasing their power levels dramatically and leaving other characters to languish. He also said that there were a lot of gimmick fights. Overall, the story structure had changed to reflect this change in character focus and the villains were weak and unmemorable. This new arc, featuring fan-favorite villain Planet-Eater Moro and a range of great battles with his bandits for the Z Fighters to show their stuff, is a return to the DBZ structure, and it features all the brutality and high stakes of the old days. Best of all, it lays the foundations for a new future focusing on other characters.
I have to say, I agree with much of this. The focus on Goku and Vegeta as “Gods” and their super-special Saiyan-ness in the meta canon is really annoying to me. Elements of this were seen in DBZ, as the humans and Piccolo stop trying to catch up to the Saiyans, and it was all GT was about, making that series a big disappointment for me. The first three stories of the Super era are notably low stakes, as well, and I would have liked a little more tension. There could have been more focus on other characters and a larger cast in general, and that certainly would have been enjoyable. And to finish it out, I am very excited for what the Moro story means for the future. The whole thing has a “last chance to shine” feel for the old guard of characters we’ve known and loved for years, Goku is probably going to master Ultra Instinct and thus complete his journey as a martial artist, and it still opens up a lot more about the history and lore of the series to explore in the future.
Beyond that, I have a lot to disagree with. For starters, if you look at the Tournament of Destroyers and the Tournament of Power and just see a bunch of “gimmicky fights” and no stakes, you’re missing the point. I always loved the tournament stories in Dragon Ball, and both of these Super tournaments deliver on that joy. The manga had a lot of important differences with the anime in how these tournaments went, too. Before the Tournament of Destroyers, the manga went through a condensed version of the Battle of Gods events, only offering one extension in the opening to give an actual benchmark on Goku’s strength so we know where we’re starting as a series, an important gift the anime and movie fail to deliver. It then time skips past the Resurrection ‘F’ story, which I think is sad, but ultimately serves the manga’s purposes. After Goku got his God form, the next thing we see, before the Tournament, is Goku training with a new master, showing that he’s back on the path to martial arts excellence. By skipping the Golden Frieza fight, the manga passed on a story that only shows off how cool Super Saiyan Blue looks (a term, by the way, the manga invented because it’s better); outside of showing off this new form, the Golden Frieza story adds nothing. As Goku and Vegeta enter the Tournament of Destroyers, they build a team entirely focused on power, and lose one of their strongest members because of a test of intelligence. To further drive home the point, Goku’s final battle with Hit ends with him realizing that his strength allows him to outmaneuver an innovative and amazing fighting technique, Time Skip. He then forfeits the match so he can have a real fight with Hit later, where Hit can try to kill Goku and has time to train beforehand, which sounds a lot like a DBZ style story. It’s the first step in Goku relearning that technique matters more than power. In the manga, they also gave more love to Piccolo. In the anime, they had him be effectively useless, barely able to fight Frost, a Frieza parallel. The manga had Piccolo fight evenly with Frost, who later shows that he’s almost an equal with Super Saiyan Goku; Piccolo lost because of poison, not because he “could never hope to beat a strong person.” It’s not as cool as it could have been, but it’s more than Piccolo ever got in the anime.
Now, I have to vehemently disagree that Zamasu was a weak, forgettable villain who existed solely as a gimmick. The Zamasu story carefully builds and delivers on the many themes of the franchise that I identify as atheist. Throughout the series, Toriyama repeatedly introduced gods of varying kinds and levels of divinity for the sole purpose of tearing down the illusion of their importance and special qualities. Gods in this world are a verifiable fact, and not only are they just people with a particular job, but every time Goku and Vegeta meet a god, they treat them like anyone else and show them no special respect or deference. Goku and Vegeta are the best exemplars in the series of treating deities like normal people, something the series itself does regularly. It’s one of my favorite parts of the series, as an atheist myself.
So, here we have Zamasu, a deity who believes that he’s uniquely capable and qualified to rule all of existence and that mortals aren’t worthy of life. In the Bible, on more than one occasion, God decided to wash the world clean of humans because they had become too sinful; similar stories exist in other religions and cultures. In this case, Zamasu is motivated by intense and literal hatred of mortals, who he sees as not simply having “become too sinful,” but fundamentally incapable of being anything else. He extends this hatred to other gods who want mortals to exist and do as they please. His rise in Future Trunks’s time to be the almost-almighty God with a Capital G is the antithesis of what the series has said about gods and divinity on every level, and that’s exactly why he’s such an amazing villain. He also checks a lot of other boxes. He uses the power of a mortal who made himself into a god, Goku, to kill the gods and overpower the mortals. He also relies on a mortal, Trunks, to develop his power and another, Dabura, to create the opening he needed to start his plan. In working to bring the downfall of all mortals, Zamasu in effect worships at the altar of mortals and relies on their miracles to succeed, just as Goku has trained with several deities on his path to success.
Trunks is also notable, because growing up, Trunks didn’t have any gods to look to like Goku did. The first “god” in Trunks’s life was Goku, as both his mother and teacher would talk about Goku as their main inspiration for hope. Goku was made into a mythical figure that could have fixed everything, and that’s exactly what Trunks used time travel for, both times he employed the strategy. That’s why Zamasu taking Goku’s body was so impactful, because “hope” came to kill him. Goku’s ultimate failure to defeat Zamasu also tears down the idea of Goku’s “divinity” in the same way as other gods were taken down a notch. This results in Goku calling on Zeno for help. The development of Goku and Zeno’s relationship is interesting and important in setting up the conflict of this story. They become friends because Goku is the only person who treats Zeno like he’s not special, which seems to confirm that Goku’s relationship to divinity is proper. At the same time, Goku doesn’t like Zeno, because he knows Zeno is just a bored shut-in and likely doesn’t understand Zeno’s role. And really, Zeno doesn’t have a role like the Gods of Destruction and the Supreme Kais. He’s in charge because he’s the most powerful and can destroy all of existence with a thought. That’s exactly what Zeno decides to do when he sees Zamasu and the multiverse he had been ignoring, getting rid of everything because he didn’t like how it turned out. Not unlike Zamasu with mortals; in effect, Zeno is the thing that Zamasu wanted to become, and that story ends with his vision of reality being carried out. It was the ingenuity of mortal time travel that made some form of happy ending, because like in every other Dragon Ball story, you can’t rely on the gods for most anything. So yeah, Zamasu is an amazing villain and his saga was brilliant. My main criticism of the manga version was that the setup was rushed, so the death of Future Bulma happened off panel and the death of the rest of the mortals in existence was breezed by. Plenty of brutality and high stakes, if you ask me, though yes, I wanted to see it with my own eyes more.
Then we get into the Tournament of Power, a great tournament story that really drives home the point of the god-centric Super run. The Tournament of Power, if you didn’t guess, isn’t about power. It’s about teamwork, strategy, and skill. In the manga, this is made absolutely clear. The downfall of everyone in the tournament is that they rejected this basic premise or were wiped out by someone who would later meet their downfall for rejecting this basic premise, setting up their incorrect view to be knocked down in the end. Goku brought Frieza onto Team Universe 7 because he feared they would need his raw power, ignoring the possibility they bring in Yamcha or Chaozu for a friendly face that works well with their team. Hit reappears and shows that he has gotten way stronger. However, he loses to Jiren, Goku’s main opponent, in the opening of the tournament because he was relying on that raw power and abdicated the potential of his famed fighting technique. Multiple times, stronger and more arrogant solo fighters regard those fighting as a team as being weak and no threat. The main exception to those relying on teamwork being weak is Gohan, who was very strong and wanted to work as a team. In the anime, Gohan was made inferior to Frieza and ultimately lost trying to beat a lesser opponent. In the manga, Gohan, in his Potential Unleashed state and not as a Super Saiyan of any form, fought evenly with Hybrid Super Saiyan Kefla, who I suspect was the second strongest person on the field, and double-KO’d with her. In the fight, it’s implied that Gohan could go Super Saiyan while using his Potential Unleashed state, but chose not to so he didn’t have to rely on that kind of gimmicky power. It’s incredibly badass and satisfying.
As the fight with Jiren nears its climax, Goku uses a strategy that could kill him in an attempt to overpower the foe who’s stronger than any God of Destruction. This prompts Roshi to step in and admonish Goku with the single most important line in Super. When Goku says he needs more power to beat Jiren, Roshi says, “Hmph…Power, y’say? Plain old fighting strength? Who the heck taught you that? Vegeta? Frieza?” This is a great moment, because not only does it push Goku to go for Ultra Instinct and focus on bettering himself as a martial artist once again, but it pushes back on the worst lessons fans take from the franchise. Goku isn’t cool because of his strength, and he’s not so strong because he can transform. It’s all about that martial artist’s journey, baby. Goku grew up constantly learning new ways to become a better martial artist than he was the previous day, and it was pure passion driving him; he got to where he is because he took every opportunity to better himself, with his transformations just a convenient way for the story to keep upping the stakes. Jiren is the pursuit of raw power incarnate, with indifference and constant dissatisfaction his reward, and all he wants is his dead master to tell him he’s finally a good fighter. He’s everything Goku was becoming, and Goku overcame him by returning to his roots. He was able to fight Jiren evenly with a technique that anyone, theoretically, could learn if they reached the same heights of martial arts mastery, as proven when Roshi uses an imperfect form of Ultra Instinct to trade blows with Jiren. The manga anchors this lesson because it focused on technique the whole time and built towards this moment: Super Saiyan God was just another technique that showed Goku he had a lot left to learn; the Tournament of Destroyers showed how boring life is when you’re so strong you can’t actually test yourself; Zamasu showed how power is corrupting and how the pursuit of it changes you; and the Tournament of Power shows how damaging and literally suicidal pursuing raw power over personal growth is.
And to put the nail on the coffin, Goku doesn’t beat Jiren with Ultra Instinct, but instead beats him by briefly working with Frieza; you can’t master the path of a martial artist in one fight. Android 17 wins the tournament for their universe by playing dead, an age-old strategy, and uses the Super Dragon Balls to wish back all the universes destroyed by Zeno. While that can be seen as lowering the stakes, it’s no more stake-lowering than any other time the Dragon Balls have been used this way in high-stakes stories, and the stakes in this case were the destruction of eight entire universes. That’s pretty darn high. Also, it’s a good time to point out that Zeno was the real villain of the Tournament of Power. He was going to destroy eight universes out of boredom, and then remembered he could instead let one survive by having them Hunger Games for his amusement. There are no stakes, no reason to fight, without Zeno. There’s going to be conflict with Zeno in the future, I’m sure of it.
The anime followed a very different route than the manga, focusing entirely on Goku’s raw power and how cool he is. They added a lot of filler moments to both increase the number of gimmick fights and silly, campy fun, too, which made the whole thing lower stakes and less brutal. As described in regards to Piccolo and Gohan, the anime also made other characters weaker compared to Goku and Vegeta to amplify the impact of their unique transformations. In the Tournament of Destroyers, the anime introduced the idea of Goku using Kaio-ken while Super Saiyan Blue, for no other reason than to let Goku use a bunch more strength after he proved he could win. I won’t get into it, because it’s a tangent, but the entire concept of Blue Kaio-ken is BS, and the DBZ anime is where the proof lies; the Super manga actually touches on that exact thing, since Goku trying something like Blue Kaio-ken against Jiren is what nearly kills him and prompts Roshi to step in. Anyway, the anime also elongated the Zamasu story with a series of gimmick fights meant to show off how cool the three Saiyans were, even though they knew from the start that none of them would beat Zamasu. That story featured a bunch of secretly alive people, too, lowering the stakes and overall brutality of Zamasu as a villain. The time between Zamasu and the Tournament of Power, including the lead-up to the tournament, was spent showcasing filler side stories that make the other characters, ignored for most of Super, look way cooler and stronger than they actually ended up being. For as much as I wanted to see more from Krillin, Tien, and Piccolo in the manga, at least Toyotaro didn’t jerk us around acting like they were going to be way bigger players than they were. And the way the anime presented Goku achieving Ultra Instinct was focused entirely on strength and treating it like a super cool new transformation, which it isn’t. So if you were watching that story, I could see how you come out of Super thinking that it’s less intense, more gimmicky, and glorified one or two characters to the detriment of others. That’s why I think you could only be as impressed with the Moro arc as a “course correction” if you’ve been paying attention to the anime and only just now got into the manga.
This brings and end to what I’ll call Phase 1 of Super and to a time skip past the battle with Broly (which I would argue was for the same reason the Golden Frieza battle was) and into the Moro arc, which I agree is a great story that brings back a lot of things Super wasn’t doing enough of. It even brings back the meta story structure of the Buu Saga, since the first part is a very Phase 1 storyline and the second half, after Goku and Vegeta are defeated, is much more of a DBZ storyline, just as Kofi described. It’s like saying, “Yeah, we want to pivot away from this, we’re done making that point.” Looking at the first part of the Moro arc, you can read it as a way of reinforcing the grand statement of Phase 1, that the constant jockeying for power and strength and the glorifying of a couple people to the detriment of others is a bad way to write a story. The reason that’s important to say is because that’s the way a lot of the meta canon has been going for a while, at least it seems to me; all the fun, original video game stories are about Saiyans and their super special Saiyan-ness and how super cool strong they can get. It’s why GT was such a disappointment to me, and as I said, it stopped several great characters from trying to become better during DBZ. I think Kofi is right to say moving away from that model of storytelling is a good and important shift in the right direction, though I can’t say if it’s for the same reasons. That’s because, if it’s not clear, I think that what Super did along the way in Phase 1, at least in the manga, was better, more important, and more complex than the simple glorification and valorization of Goku and Vegeta, loaded as it was with themes arguing against that model and continual demonstrations of why they need to switch back to a focus on their martial arts journey. The structure of the Moro arc only serves to reinforce and finalize this thematic argument. As it continues, we are undoubtedly in store for some truly amazing fights and a satisfying, climactic battle with Moro for the entire Dragon Gang.
I also want to make a very important point for how the series is moving forward. Kofi says that Toriyama is switching back to this DBZ style story because he “has learned a thing or two from his mistakes.” For one, the massive success of Super doesn’t really seem like a mistake for anyone to learn from. For two, it’s really in poor taste to imply that Toriyama is changing how he’s writing a story because of negative fan reaction. Allegedly, that sort of thing happened with the Buu Saga, which is why Goku came back and we saw Super Saiyan 3, the perfect continuation and parody of the Super Saiyan form, all because the fans didn’t like Gohan’s high school adventures. I don’t think that’s happening again, allegedly, and in my opinion it’s not exactly a good look to say that it is. For three, that almost literally can’t be what’s happening, because Toyotaro has much greater control over the narrative by now. For those who don’t know, the way Super is being created is that Akira Toriyama writes plot summaries, and then lets the different creatives develop it from there, free to add and subtract and move around what they will. The anime team decided to focus on power and how super cool Goku is, and that version of events reflects that. Toyotaro, artist and co-author of the manga, kept his eye on the martial arts journey while executing this long vision of Toriyama’s to introduce new levels of grandeur and warn against getting lost in it, and that version of events reflects that. Over the course of the series, each creative team was given increasingly greater control over the narrative, leading to greater divergences; the two Tournaments of Power might as well be two different stories. By now, in the Moro arc, with no competing anime version of the story, Toyotaro has much more authorial control than when he started, and that will only increase until, as I hope and predict, Toriyama officially hands off the series to Toyotaro’s capable hands so he can write new stories for the foreseeable future. So no, I don’t think it’s very accurate to say that Toriyama learned any lesson because Toyotaro is the one making the important changes in how the story is told, not Toriyama. Keep your eye on the prize, you know; forgetting Toyotaro’s role means forgetting that we can and probably will have new Dragon Ball that isn’t a video game or video game-related story after the passing of Toriyama. I think the long hiatus of the anime reinforces this: Toriyama has said that if the anime team followed Toyotaro’s lead, they wouldn’t make so many art mistakes, and allowing the manga to develop lead time could be a strategy to follow the manga as a source material in the future, rather than continue this confusing dual path.
So yeah, the Dragon Ball Super manga is better than the anime in every way, and judging the series by the anime alone is setting yourself up for disappointment. The Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga showcases an amazing villain for the franchise, and it sets up more to explore in a future that values the contributions of the full cast. It also, to my eyes, foreshadows the end of the road for the Dragon Gang we’ve been following so far, and thus a potential new beginning with their successors; I mean, there’s no more time after this between Beerus and meeting Uub to use, and meeting Uub is the moment Goku passes the baton to a successor. This is a time to look forward to that bright future and reflect on the themes the manga has been developing as we head into it, as well as what the two versions of Super mean for the franchise as a whole.

“astral” for leohta? (—bitchesofostwick)
Thank you so much dearie this previous fill, but you don’t have to have read that to understand this. (Ofc I’d appreciate it if you did but.) Good for all audiences, ~1650 words, for @dadrunkwriting!!
Leohta sighed and rubbed at her eyes, then sat up in her tent. “Can I bring my blanket?”
“You can bring whatever you like, just don’t bring me late for dinner.” Leohta narrowed her eyes at the face between her tent flaps, trying to figure out if she was still asleep or if that just made that little sense. She wasn’t sure if Alistair could see, but the way he scratched at his hair told her her took the meaning of her silence even if he couldn’t make out her expression. “That sounded a lot better in my head. Anyway, c’mon. Your watch.”
Alistair disappeared and Leohta sighed again then kicked off all the layers she’d buried herself under and reached for her boots. The Frostback Mountains were living up to their name tonight but at least the snow had held off. In fact, that was probably part of why it was so cold; Leohta hadn’t learned a lot about surface weather but she had learned nights like the one she saw when she finally stood and left her tent were bound to be the coldest. Flawlessly clear skies let what meager heat the stone under them had gathered during the day escape, making everything colder. She tugged her blanket around her shoulders and trudged toward the fire.
Alistair gave her a little wave as she sat, then edged around the fire to hand her a mug. It didn’t really matter what was in it, only that it was warm in her hands, but that also wasn’t her main focus. “I’m awake enough now, Alistair, you don’t have to stay up.”
“I know, but I want to and I don’t think you’re awake enough to stop me. Besides which, if you’ll indulge me,” and here she narrowed her eyes again, equal parts curious and defensive, “I wanted to talk to you about something.”
She lifted the mug closer to her face to breathe in the steam then grimaced. Tea. Ugh, but still, hot, and thoughtfully made, so she evened her expression back out. “I’m listening.”
“Well, it’s less talk to you about something and more talk while showing you something.” He stood again, this time moving closer to her. “May I?” Leohta tilted her head to the side, indicating where he could sit, and Alistair joined her. The change in temperature between them was immediate and she was grateful for that at least, if still dubious about what he was planning to show her.
“If you wanted to show me it’s warmer when we sit together, I knew that already.” She leaned over, bumping him with her shoulder.
“It is nice, isn’t it? You’re welcome. But no,” he barreled on, “that’s not it. I don’t know if you remember much about the night after we left Kinloch Hold but you talked about something that night and I thought of something that might help.”
In truth she didn’t remember a great deal about that night beyond spending far too much on mead that was far too sweet (she still had a bottle in her bag) and making a catastrophic fool out of herself in front of Alistair, but surely he remembered more than she did. Her nod was a little tentative, careful of what was hazy in her memory, but if there was anyone she trusted not to take advantage of that, it was Alistair.
“You were talking about the sky. The moons and the stars, asking how they stayed up where they are but still changed all the time. Now, I’ll be the first to tell you I’m not smart enough to tell you how they stay up there other than it’s where the Maker’s hand put them, but I can tell you they don’t change as much as you might think they do.”
As he spoke, Leohta lifted her head to look up at the sky again. There they were, glittering like well-lit diamonds laid out on rich velvet. Beautiful, sure, but if that were done with diamonds and velvet, the diamonds would tumble down. The stars, not so much. “They’re like the sun, they rise and set, they’re literally always changing.”
“Not really. See, the stars are so constant, people treat them like a map. You can navigate by them, if you know how.” Leohta chanced a glance over at Alistair but he was looking up, the same as she was.
“And do you know how?”
Alistair laughed, thin white puffs in the dark. “Not even a little. I think it’s mostly for sailors. I do know about some of the constellations, though.”
“Constellations?” Something to do with the stars, but the word itself was just unfamiliar enough that she had to ask.
“Groupings of stars that represent things. Like, well, look. Do you see those four bright stars there that sort of form a curved line?” Leohta looked over again, then looked up and followed where Alistair was pointing. They all looked bright to her but after a moment she thought she saw it.
“Sure...”
“So perceptive, I knew you’d see it. Now, just up from the center of the line, there’s another star? It’s not as bright but it still stands out.”
“Yeah.”
“We’re up to five. Now, one more, it’s pretty far down but it’s in a straight line from that top one.” He sounded genuinely excited to be sharing, and it was contagious. It felt like solving a puzzle together, except of course he already knew the solution.
“Right, and that makes six?”
“Yes, and that makes the Sword of Mercy. That’s the sword used to signify the Templar Order, so we all got taught where to find that one. See, the line is the crossguard, then the handle and the blade.”
“And somehow that becomes a map?” She couldn’t help but be a little skeptical. One little star picture didn’t seem like much.
“Well, part of one, but think of it this way. Even if the stars rise and set, those six stars will always be in the same position relative to each other, so you’ll always be able to find those stars, and then...” Alistair was quiet for a second before laughing again, but differently this time. Softer. This time when Leohta looked at him (why couldn’t she just make herself keep looking at him, she wondered then quickly dismissed), he was looking down at his own hands. “Then it all falls apart because I don’t actually know how to use the stars to figure out much of anything. I just thought if you knew that they weren’t up there whirling around madly, you might not be so suspicious of them. Not sure I managed that, though.”
“You did.” Her answer was immediate and, to her relief, it got Alistair to lift his head. “It helps to know that if you know enough about them, it all makes more sense. Like how dwarves can find their way through the Deep Roads thanks to our stone sense even if it looks like an anthill to most surfacers. Once you’re familiar, once you know something, it’s easier to make your way through it. Even if you don’t personally know how,” she added quickly in case he thought she meant the only value was in the navigation. It wasn’t. It was in the knowing.
Her meaning seemed to get through to him, if the soft, boyish smile on his face was any indication. It warmed her more thoroughly than any tea would have, and Leohta realized that she’d probably have to figure out what to do about that sooner rather than later. Not right this second, though, because Alistair was speaking again.
“Since there is a whole sky, that’s not the only constellation, but the rest of them are more complicated. Over here, there are eight stars that form a ship if you know how to look at them.”
“If you know how to look at them?” She laughed and craned her neck to see where he was pointing now. “Is this like when you taught me to find animals in the clouds and you and Sten spent half the day fighting over whether you saw a rabbit or a nug?”
“Nooooo, these are ancient and venerable designs dating all the way back to the height of the Tevinter Imperium. That being said, over here,” and Leohta was proud she only went still for a second when Alistair looped an arm around her shoulders to pull her in closer and give her a better view of the portion of the sky he was indicating, “there is a nug constellation. It’s very complicated, a couple dozen stars to get all the toes on their weird little feet.”
“You’re full of shit, Alistair.” The fit of his side against her felt tailor made, even the angle of his arm set perfectly to accommodate their differing heights. How many times had he considered this, she wondered, to be able to do it so effortlessly in one try?
“Excuse me, which one of us has lived under these stars his entire life? And besides, would I ever mislead you about something as critically important as finding a nug in the sky? Leliana would never forgive me. If you’re really not ready yet, though, the ship is easier. The sail is a little lopsided, so you have to use your imagination.”
Leohta did spend the rest of her watch using her imagination, but in the crook of Alistair’s arm, it was evenly divided between the stars above them and the ones she felt twinkling inside her as he spoke. She wasn’t sure he really knew more than a small handful of real constellations, but around the time he tried to convince her that one of them was a Mabari, she decided it didn’t really matter. Alistair was the thing she was really learning about, after all, and she had to get to know where she was better before she could determine where she was going, didn’t she?

Redeemer
.
I’m sorry for the things I said before I had my coffee.
.
.
In the lowest chamber of the lowest Tower, a figure casually immersed herself in the memories of different worlds.
Cinder breathed a long sigh after finishing the most recent recollection. The burdens of being Queen were accumulating with no way to relieve it. There was little time to rest. The only solace she could take—to her surprise—was she did not have to carry the weight of the crown alone.
“What a surprise. You’re spending your time here again,” a voice came from behind.
“Only in hopes of gaining some insightful answer to our predicament, my fellow Queen.”
At the greeting, Weiss joined Cinder’s side in watching more projections play out.
“And, have you found anything we can use?” she asked.
“Not even remotely.”
“…What should we do?”
“Vacuo may very well fall before our Fleet’s arrival.”
“And, if by some luck, it manages to get there in time, will it be enough?”
“Difficult to say.” Cinder answered evenly.
“We can’t send more of the Fleet. Vale and Mistral could start a second campaign any moment.”
“This is also true.”
Weiss couldn’t help but frown at her coregent’s indifference. It annoyed, but also put her off. The fellow Queen was usually so sure of herself, confident in her actions. It might have been the closeness they were beginning to develop, but she was able to detect the small cadence changes in Cinder’s mood. When complete indifference stuck to her tone, it usually meant the Black Queen was depressed.
And this war between Vacuo and Salem was very distressing.
“Do you think we can trust Temujin?” Weiss asked.
“Possibly.”
“We might lose a large portion of our army and a new allied Kingdom in just a week.”
“The very thought did cross my mind.”
“We have to at least, evacuate Team ENMY.”
“I find myself agreeing with that sentiment.”
“…Should we send more of our forces to Vacuo?”
Cinder finally turned to face her.
“As always, you make a good point of asking all the correct questions, while providing none of its key answers.”
“Hmph!”
The Black Queen smiled teasingly at the White.
“Salem is taking the field, according to Temujin’s spies. We can either dedicate more of our limited resources to saving a potentially lost cause, or…”
“Or we should cut our losses now,” Weiss finished shortly. The words left a sour aftertaste in her mouth.
Trapped in an endless loop of bad decisions followed by dire scenarios, a loud groan escaped her.
“If only the Bridge Project was finished!”
“Ah, yes. Our little gamechanger. Unfortunately, our dear Masa and Polendina estimate another month’s work before its completion.”
“…We should send more forces.”
“…”
“We didn’t account for Salem,” Weiss added. “Her arrival completely changed the landscape of the situation there.”
“A bold move on her part. At the same time, she knows we cannot commit too many forces to Vacuo’s cause.”
“We also didn’t have an accurate measurement of the Grimm she’s capable of gathering.”
“Any additional reinforcements sent will arrive days late.”
“We have to try.”
“We risk forsaking any chance of defeating Salem in the late game.”
“We can’t lose Vacuo.”
“I understand your noble intentions…Weiss—”
The serious use of her name, without any formalities, drove the graveness of Cinder’s tone deeper.
“—But we cannot allow our emotions to dictate judgment. I doubt Temujin would make any less of a decision were she in our position.”
The White Queen went silent for a moment.
“…Is this how we win the war, Cinder? Is this how we expect to defeat Salem? By abandoning Vacuo?”
“…”
“And may I remind you, Team ENMY would probably be even less inclined to abandon our newfound allies just to save their own lives.”
Cinder visibly tensed.
“That is a very serious problem.”
“We’ve read the reports. They’re fond of Temujin and the Kingdom’s people. Team ENMY won’t evacuate just because we order them to.”
“So, what moves do we have available to us?” Cinder held her chin in thought. “Should we deploy a second Fleet now, the fact remains they would likely never arrive in time. And there still remains the issue of Salem. What amount of forces could we possibly send to could contend with the Witch?”
“I know. We agreed, whenever the time finally came to face Salem, we could only hope to do so with you, Yang, and myself. Anything short of the Maidens would…Wait a minute—" Weiss stopped.
Her brow wrinkled with focus.
“What?”
“Someone who could match Salem AND arrive in Vacuo in time.”
Cinder stared blankly before the realization donned on her.
“I must be getting tired, if I failed to think of that myself. Do you think he will agree?”
“He has been taken a turn for the better lately.”
“Hm. Indeed, the work seems eerily suited to him. Both of them—”
“Let us offer him the role of Redeemer, then.”

“My word…”
As Professor Oobleck saw the capital city of Vacuo peek just above the horizon, he also saw rippling black specks dotting the skies above it. They could only be one thing.
“Grimm! I must hurry!”
His mind raced as he turned the accelerator on the bike he was riding and tapped the clutch to switch gears. The motorcycle’s engine roared. Its large wheels kicked up a dust storm behind him.
As he closed in, he saw what was actually being attacked was a moving caravan, not the city itself. The expedition faced heavy harassment in their attempt to return home. Judging by the damages they were accruing, they would not last by the time they reached the safety of the wall.
At least, not without a little help.
As Oobleck maneuvered the bike closer, he assessed the situation more carefully. A pack of great beasts hounded the vehicles’ flanks. Grimm with the bodies of lions. They had the additional head of a ram’s and a tail in the form of a snake. A species called Crymera, classified as A-Class Grimm.
Although the four-pawed monstrosities posed their own threat, Vacuo’s warriors should have been adept at handling them. The true problem lied with the Grimm hovering above.
Oobleck set his sights to the apparitions circling the line of trucks like vultures. Bony cloaked figures with matching chains swooped up and down. The dark wraiths haunting the party were Daemontors, classified as Aberration Class.
Not only were they able to render Semblances unusable, they could only be disposed of via Aura concentrated arms or Magic. This was due to an almost complete lack of physical body. The threat they posed was usually small due to their small numbers and lack of direct harm, but coupled with the Crymera…
Oobleck watched as the caravan could only use raw Dust rounds to combat their pursuers. Without their Semblances, they would not be able to fight off the Crymera. But they needed to leave their vehicles and bring the battle close-range if they wanted to dispose of the Daemontors.
The Professor took one last glug of his thermos before collapsing it into its Torch setting.
“Yang may not be very pleased when she hears what I am about to do with her bicycle.”
He aimed his tracks for the tallest dune.
“Allons-y!”
Flying off the ramp of sand, Oobleck popped a wheelie at its very end. With an acrobatic grace, he backflipped off, and drew his Torch in a wide arc. Flames spewed from his weapon’s mouth.
“HAH!!!”
Like a professional batter’s homerun swing, Oobleck cracked the motorcycle into the cloud of Daemontors. The vehicle then, exploded with all the extravagance of fireworks. Shrapnel, reinforced by the Professor’s Aura, pierced and burned the Grimm caught in its destructive radius.
When he landed, some of the chasing Crymera broke off to focus their new prey.
“Oh, dear.”
Just then, the caravan line divided, and rounded back. The expeditioners understood what the professor did and were not ready to simply abandon him. With their Semblances unlocked, they practically leapt off their vehicles before they came to a full stop.
…
The battle was over within minutes.
“I am very grateful for your help,” Oobleck shook the hands of the party’s leader.
“We should be the ones thanking you,” the female Faunus returned the gesture. “If you didn’t take care of those Daemontors, we would’ve been done for. You’re a brave man.”
“You give me far too much credit.”
“No, you truly are a brave man. Temujin loved that bike.”
“………Pardon?”
As Professor Oobleck was guided to the city and to the Hanging Gardens, he came upon the hectic scene that was supposed to be Temujin’s throne room.
A number of officials shuffled back and forth. The great doors, which used to remain close, were now kept open. Soldiers, as well as executives, constantly filtered through its threshold.
“Ah. Good work, Professor. Nice to see you again.”
Ilia Amitola was the first to pay him any attention. With a clipboard in hand, and a number of assistants at her side, she looked every bit the government official.
“You know Temujin loved that bike, right?”
“So, I’ve heard. In my defense, I thought it belonged to Miss Xiao Long.”
“Yeah, well. You’re lucky the old lady isn’t around at the moment. I’d like to say thank you for helping our people, but first things first.”
Ilia produced a shard of Dust from her pocket, and thrust it to him.
While Oobleck obediently obliged, he couldn’t help but note the subtle movement the Chameleon Faunus paid towards the sword-whip at her waist. As a result, the dry swallow he made wasn’t solely due to downing the energy supplement.
“…Glad to know it’s really you. You can make your report to Mouse,” Ilia pitched her thumb to the throne. There, he could see the young boy sitting where Temujin once sat.
“Where is Temujin, might I ask?”
“She has her hands full with another of her selfish whims. The Rakis siblings are in charge in the meantime. And, you,” the girl turned to the expedition leader. “After you take your own Dust, you are officially being assigned to the guard unit.”
“WHAT FOR?!” the woman cried.
“Are you kidding me? You disobeyed a direct order. There were supposed to be no more expeditions until Mouse or Temujin’s say so.”
“Our city is running low on food supplies and there were still settlements on the outer reaches that weren’t completely evacuated!”
“And let’s not forget, anybody that goes outside the walls might come back as someone else. You risked more Cuckoos infiltrating the city.”
“Yes, wouldn’t want our best Huntresses and Huntsmen to kill their own people.”
The chamber paused silent at the statement.
Ilia and Mouse were struck with a temporary loss of what to do. Would they have to take the expedition leader aside? If they punished her, then and there, what kind of repercussions would they be looking at? How much farther would their morale fall?
As they contemplated, a small Knives stepped forward, and buried her fist in the expedition leader’s gut.
“Demoted. Report back to your quarters and await reassignment,” she said with a callous tone.
“Since when, *Cough!* did our Kingdom become something like this?”
“…”
“And where the hell is Temujin?!”
“Survival of the Fittest,” Ilia echoed the creed. “We have to do what we can in order to survive. The best way our people can do that is by following orders.”
“And what about Strength in Numbers?! How are we supposed to survive if we don’t have each other?!”
“…You’re right. Fine.”
“What?”
“No demotion,” Ilia said with a dead tone.
The words rung hollow in a chamber full of people. Knives was about to protest, when the Chameleon Faunus grabbed the scruff of the expedition leader’s neck, and brought her face close.
“But if I find ONE Cuckoo in the party you brought back, I swear by the Khans of Vacuo…!”
“They will be dealt with.”
Mouse was the one to answer this time. From the throne, his voice echoed with an authoritative clarity.
“She understands, Ilia. You, too, Knives. Just let it go.”
“But, Mouse—!” his sister started.
“We have enough supplies to last us until Atlas arrives. The outer settlements are now completely evacuated, so we can put that discussion to rest. I can assume no more reckless expeditions will be taken?”
The leader of the caravan nodded warily.
“We still have work to do and a war to win. We cannot be divided whenever Salem’s true attack comes.”
More silence followed the proxy king’s command. Then, one by one, the officers in the room resumed with their work. The chamber returned to its bustling environment of chaos once more.
Meanwhile, Professor Oobleck made his way before the throne.
“So—”
“Where is Temujin?”
.

.
In a world that was constantly spinning like the inside of a disco ball, eight figures were working to catch their breaths.
Their private pocket of the Never Realm never failed to warp their sense of time and placement. More often than not, they felt like they spent years within the dimension as opposed to actual days passing in the physical world. A tax heavily affecting both body and mind, if the training wasn’t already enough.
“How long is this four v. four deathmatch marathon going to go ON?!” Emerald shouted in exasperation.
“Actually, it appears our time is up,” Minerva answered. “Our Kingdom is reaching its breaking point.”
“So, we’re ready?!” Yang banged her fists together.
“Well, you’ll have to be,” Raven scoffed.
Neo only grinned with a thin smile of playfulness.
“It is time Vacuo strikes back against the Witch,” Nai nodded.
“Finally. I always wondered what those characters felt like when I put in those infinite life cheat codes. Not what I imagined,” Mercury laid, spread-eagle on the “floor”.
“Hm…”
Temujin threw a cursory glance between her Khans and Team ENMY.
The four youths answered their expectations and then some during their hellish training. They sat around the ruined nightmare-scape exhausted. Temujin could feel their frayed nerve-endings. Their insides were practically the stuff of ragdolls. Still, a fierce light burned inside them, as well as a trace of cockiness in their sneer.
Her Khans were in similar shape. Scraped and battered from their endless matches, and it wasn’t due to any carelessness or ease on their part.
In any other situation, Temujin would have dubbed ENMY successors to the “team” that ended the Third Crusade. But she decided to keep that thought to herself.
Can’t have them getting a bigger head than they already have.
“I hereby recognize Team ENMY as Huntresses and Huntsmen officially licensed under the Vacuo Kingdom,” Temujin spoke up.
“Excuse me?” Minerva turned a stern glare towards her.
“What, I have the authority! It’s not as if you weren’t thinking the same thing, you hypocrite!”
“I was thinking they would only be granted the title once they fulfilled an actual Grimm Extermination Contract.”
“Then, we’ll just give them one!”
“Ugh!” the Headmaster rolled her eyes, and then scoffed hard into her hand.
“Team ENMY!” Temujin carried on without a care. “You are herby contracted with a Grimm Extermination Contract of the highest order! Eliminate all the Cuckoos within Vacuo’s city! Upon doing so, you will be granted the official titles of Huntresses and Huntsmen! In short, an impromptu graduation!”
In spite of the elder woman’s rousing declaration, Team ENMY could only return the gesture with an expression that communicated, “What a jip.” Though, Yang did feel a warm tingle tug at her heartstrings.
Emerald, who had grown too intimate with Temujin’s personality over their time together, simply chose to ignore her. Instead, she clapped her hands with a business-like fashion. The attention of her team concentrated on her.
“Alright, hostiles. You know how this song goes. Get some sleep—”
“Tomorrow, we commence Operation Gun Dog.”

At a certain training room within Cerberus Tower, Weiss and Cinder came upon three of the room’s occupants.
Ruby was sitting beside Masa, viewing the record of her most recent attempt to utilize her Silver Eye abilities. Meanwhile, her Uncle regarded their sudden visitors with a suspicious look.
“Qrow Branwen,” Cinder spoke with the allure of a devil. “Or should I say, Titan?”
“…”
“Your assimilation with your host is to be allowed to complete, but in return—"
“We have an urgent mission for you.”

I did say I was gonna talk about these two, but as entertaining as they are, they’re not exactly two characters. They’re two halves of Danny. Despite that, they have such extreme, distinct personalities, and I do think it’s worth discussing why. Especially since this is something that happens again in a much different context.
To start with, let’s pull a couple of older posts out of the depths: my theory about Danny’s powers and my post about Danny’s view of himself as shown in Maternal Instinct. I do recommend reading both of these first if you haven’t already, because they’ll help back up some things I’ll be claiming in this post.
I’ve mentioned before that I believe a ghost's appearance is something they choose for themselves, whether consciously or subconsciously. Their appearance is either how they see themselves or how they wish to be seen, depending on how aware they are of the control they have. While Danny’s ghost form isn’t much different from his human form, I do think his self image does affect things.
Danny sees himself as small and weak because, well…he sort of is. He’s bullied at school for it. On top of that, he’s shy, awkward, and scrawny. While his ghost form isn’t much different, his expressions are often more confident when he’s in it. His shoulders are broader, his limbs are thicker, and if my observations about Super!Danny are right, he might even be a little taller.
I mentioned in my Maternal Instinct post that Danny has two very distinct roles for his two halves, and it makes a lot of sense. Danny Fenton is the weak one. The awkward loser who fumbles over his words and is banned from all fragile school equipment. Danny Phantom is faster, stronger, and capable of some really amazing things. He fights ghosts on a regular basis. As stressful as it is, it gives him confidence. He feels stronger when he can use his powers against an enemy than when he can’t, even when the ghost enemy is several times more powerful than the human one.
That said, by this time, Pirate Radio has happened, and this view has shifted slightly.
Danny’s confidence has finally started to extend to his human form. He’s able to speak up for himself when he needs to, he can take charge, and he can even fight against ghosts without being able to rely on his powers at all. He’s come a long way since season one. He’s still Danny, but he’s allowed his view of himself to change a bit more completely, and he doesn’t seem to be viewing his two halves as nearly as separate anymore.
That doesn’t make living the double life less stressful, though.
Danny just wanted to have a ghost-free weekend with his friends, but he accidentally let Technus loose and that’s taken a bit of a priority. Sure, Danny could technically ignore him. There are other ghost fighters around. Nobody knows he’s the ghost boy aside from his friends and sister. He doesn’t have to worry about Technus. We all know he’s going to anyway, though. That’s the way he is. He could also technically just push the weekend back a bit. Worry about Technus now and move the “Weekend of Fun” to next weekend. Tucker and Sam have said they don’t mind helping him fight Technus for the weekend instead. Danny doesn’t want that, either. He wants to have fun with his friends, and besides, this is something he promised them.
He can’t duplicate himself yet, but with the Ghost Catcher, he can actually remove his ghost half.
He’s flown through it on accident before, so he knows that it can remove all the ectoplasm from his DNA, and subsequently his ghost half. However, a ghost needs some sort of consciousness to exist. Without that, it’d just be a puddle of ectoplasm. So, his Phantom half had to take half of his mind with it.
The result is his two halves becoming the extremes of his intentions for them.
Danny Phantom, full-time superhero and Danny Fenton, full-time “fun dude.”
The first time Danny went through the Ghost Catcher, it was an accident. Without the intention to split apart there, the separation was likely not as drastic, which allowed him to merge together again quite easily.
Here, though? Danny went through with the very clear intention of splitting himself into a Danny Phantom who could handle the superheroics and a Danny Fenton who could have fun with his friends. Since his ghost half has to take have of his consciousness with him, though, we didn’t end up with two ordinary Dannys. Instead, we got the extreme superhero and the extreme fun guy.
Super!Danny is a pretty stereotypical superhero archetype, probably modeled a lot after superheroes Danny watched on cartoons growing up and/or people he looks up to. He’s still Danny, though. Just with all the traits of him that best suit the superhero life. Super!Danny took Danny’s sense of responsibility, his hard working side, his desire to protect people, and even the goofy banter, since that’s something Danny always connected to his ghost fighting. He has no need or desire to sleep, eat, or have fun. His life is centered around spreading “ghostly justice" and keeping people safe.
Fun!Danny, on the other hand, got the qualities of Danny that best suit someone who just wants to have lazy fun all weekend. He has no sense of responsibility or much consideration for others. He’s a lot more lazy, only taking interest in things that he thinks are fun. He’s not even that interested in trying to save his family from Technus. He’d rather go bowling. He has to be talked into it by being told it’ll be fun. He doesn’t especially care about ghosts at all.
They do still both have some similar traits, though. They both run to check on Jack when he crashes in the Specter Speeder, because both halves of him still love their family. They both still enjoy being around Sam and Tucker. They both have no desire to hurt innocent people, and they both want to keep their secret hidden from their family. All of these traits fit both a fun guy and a superhero just fine, so they’re just divided evenly between the two.
The second time they go through the Ghost Catcher in this episode, the intent is for his ghost half and human half to join together again. Unfortunately, since they went through the wrong side, we end up with two incomplete halfas instead of one Danny. The merging of human and ghost DNA was the only focus, rather than the minds, so the personalities remain the same as the ones they had before. There was no reason for their minds to be redivided, after all. Just the human and ghost halves, specifically.
At least, those are my headcanons. You’re free to see things differently, of course.
This might sound like I’m overthinking a goofy and irrelevant episode, but as I mentioned before, this happens again later. I was gonna talk about specifically why this episode is relevant, but I think I actually covered that in this analysis. I didn’t get extremely specific, but I’ll be bringing this up again in a few episodes. For now, I’ll just leave it at this.

New Man Pt. 5 // Don't Leave (Biadore) - Fucking Awful.
[A/N: We’re almost done! Finally time for some payoff. This is a long one, not sorry about it. Song is Don’t Leave by Snakehips and MØ, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQGcfudKBBs Enjoy!]
Danny finished sound check later than he’d hoped, with just a few minutes before the club’s doors opened and an hour until the show. Thank God I’m not getting into drag tonight. He had been performing more and more frequently as Danny, undefined by gender or need to wear specific clothes, makeup or wigs unless he felt like it. It was part of the liberation of moving to Seattle, and in this moment he was especially glad because it made his prep time pretty short.
Danny thanked the band and the sound engineers as he dipped backstage to get ready. He kept on his black jeans and Docs, slipping a red-and-black flannel over a black mesh crop top and leaving it half buttoned. He considered putting on one of his wigs – his long witchy black one, or maybe even the bright red mermaid wig as a throwback – but decided against it. Already self-conscious and nervous, a wig would just give him one more thing to be anxious about. As if I don’t have enough to freak out about tonight.
“Fuck, man.” Danny sat in front of the mirror, catching a glimpse of himself for the first time all day. He had black bags under his eyes, evidence of insomnia from the night before. After the Brunch-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, it had been an exhausting afternoon: Screaming at Shane over the phone (and later calling to apologize, only to get voicemail), rambling like a crazy person to Jinkx and Ben, panicking over his text messages to Roy, crying to his mom for a few hours, venting to Alaska, apologizing to the Seattle crew, and watching Trainwreck 3 times high with Johnny to get his mind off of everything.
Still, after all of that, he couldn’t sleep. Even though Roy had said he would come to the show, Danny was to worried and wired to shut his mind off. He pulled his phone out to read the texts for the millionth time:
The first message: If you want me there, I’m there.
Followed immediately by a second: You’re right, we have a lot to talk about. But I won’t let you down.
And the third and final, coming a few hours later, that freaked Danny out: I’m so sorry, kid.
What does he mean, I’m sorry? What’s he going to say? It was that last text that played on a loop every time Danny closed his eyes, kept him awake. The way he saw it, Roy didn’t have anything to apologize for. Yes, he had been an idiot not to tell Danny about his breakup – especially if he was going to try to make out with him. And yes, he shouldn’t have distanced himself from Danny since the move. Of course, he never should’ve started dating that piece of shit in the first place…
Ok, so maybe Roy did have some things to be sorry about. But still, that text just didn’t sit right with Danny. Getting increasingly anxious, he decided to smoke a quick bowl before he dove into his makeup. He packed a small-ish bowl and as he was about to light it –
“You know smoking is bad for your voice, Daniel.”
What in the fuck? Danny whipped around, shocked to hear that accent. “Shane?!” He threw down the pipe and ran over to Australian, nearly tackle-hugging him at full sprint.
“Someone has to be here to keep you in line. How are you, babe?” Shane sat them back by the makeup table. “Besides the obvious.”
Shit. Danny didn’t realize how bad the bags under his eyes were. “I know, I was just about to cover them up. I look like a fucking raccoon.”
“Not that, you idiot. Look, I know what’s going on. After you called me screaming like a deranged banshee yesterday –“
“I’m really sorry about that, I tried to call you –“
“Hush. After you called me, did you really think I wasn’t going to turn around and call Roy? Honestly, you both can be so dim sometimes. Anyways, I called him and he filled me in on what happened in the last few days.”
Danny sank. “Oh my god, you must think I’m such a shitty person. I swear Shane, I didn’t know what was going on. I never would’ve said any of that if I didn’t…I just…you know how much cheating kills me…and I thought he was – “ He couldn’t get a coherent thought out, so it was time to just ramble “ – He made me feel like I was a whore or something, and I guess I didn’t realize I was mad that he has been avoiding me for so long, and it all came out at once, and I said really awful things to him, things I knew would hurt him as much as I was hurting, and I had been listening to Adele, and – “
“Deep breath pussyface, you’ve got a show to do.” Shane cut him off. “And actually it’s the exact opposite. Roy is pinning it all on himself. You two really are a match.”
At that, Danny cracked a smile for half a second – before panicking again. “No! Wait it’s not his fault. I mean, yeah he did some fucked up shit that he should definitely explain, but then he just walked away and left without a fight.”
“Danny, what else could he have done in that situation? He was at a table full of your friends, getting put on blast for his relationship and being called a heartless – “
“Ok how was I supposed to know what” – Danny tried to defend himself, but he was quickly blocked.
“Hey, I’m not blaming you. Not at all, babe. You’re both idiots, but that isn’t news to me.” Danny was a little offended, but he also knew that (at least in this case) Shane was right.
He continued. “You both reacted the way I knew you would – that you knew you would, if we’re being honest.”
Again, Shane was on the money. In his endless analysis of yesterday’s events, Danny had always known that blowing up at brunch would just make Roy retreat into himself. While Bianca Del Rio was always ready for a fight, if you managed to really cut Roy Haylock he’d need to lick his wounds. It was the same way Roy should’ve thought about how Danny would react to cheating…
“But you can’t keep doing this, dancing around things. If this weekend is any indication, you’re both going to kill each other if you can’t just come clean and figure out how to be together. I’ve heard you both say a million times how in love you are with the other one – you owe it to yourselves to say it to each other for once.”
Fuck, when did he get so smart? “Damn, Shane.”
He looked pleased with himself. “I had a whole 2 hour plane ride to think of that.” Danny had to laugh a bit at Shane’s sudden smugness.
“There’s that smile I love!” Shane went in for a hug. “Ok, so now the fun part.” Shane clapped his hands together in excitement, distinctly looking like a blonde twink Mary Poppins. “What are we going to do about this? What’s the big rom-com move that’s going to put all of this back on track?”
“Oh god, don’t ruin it by calling it a rom-com move.” Danny shoved him off, lovingly. “I have something in mind, but I don’t know if he’s going to feel it. I don’t even know if he wants to fix it, his response to coming to the show was so weird.”
Shane looked confused. “What do you mean? I was talking to him when he texted you back” – Danny shot him a raised eyebrow – “and I thought his response was really sweet.”
Danny grabbed his phone and pulled up the texts to show him. “You thought ‘I’m so sorry, kid.’ was a sweet response? Does that mean something different in Australia?”
“What? Let me see that.” Shane grabbed for the phone, and let out an exasperated sign when he finished reading. “Ugh, that little troll sent that after we all left –“
“We all?”
“Me, Jinkx and Dela, yeah. When we hung up –“
“A full fucking army - What was going on yesterday?”
“Oh please, like you both don’t need as many people as possible to help you triage this situation. How many phone calls did you make yesterday after we talked?” Danny was silent, busted. He made a doe-eyed face at Shane, one he knew always made him laugh at how transparent it was.
“Uh huh, that’s what I thought.”
“Ok whatever. The point is, is he going to forgive me for what I said? Because if not –“
“Danny, I think that man would forgive you anything. You could murder one of his dogs, he’d just buy a knew one and name it Adore. You just need to nut up and show him you’d do the same. Show him you want him to stay, and fight for this the way you want him to.”
Danny cracked a smile. “That I can do.”
—
Shane sat with him in the dressing room, helping Danny stay calm and get ready. He did keep trying to talk Danny into all kinds of crazy makeup and outfits for the night, but Danny stood firm in his choice – he had to feel 100% himself tonight. The only way this was going to work was if he was honest and vulnerable, no face or fashion for armor. He kept his outfit, throwing on a quick smoky eye and dark bruja lip and keeping his shoulder-length hair down.
When the club manager came in to give a 15-minute warning, Shane left to go join Roy, Jinkx, Ben and Johnny in the VIP balcony. He gave one final bear hug, moving in for a cheek kiss before Danny could stop him from leaving a lip print.
“Even if you just wear Chapstik, I don’t want that shit all over me.” Danny hugged him tighter.
“Very funny, you cunt. Now go get your man.”
—
Once the show started, Danny was finally able to settle his nerves. If there was one thing he could count on, it was that being on stage would feel like home. In his element, he was invincible.
Thank God they’re in the balcony, I just wish they’d turn down those fucking lights. Danny could easily spot Roy at the front of the second level, but the stage lights were just bright enough to block a real view of his face. He tried to divide his attention evenly between the roughly 100 people packed into the intimate venue, but his focus kept veering back to the balcony. He hoped Roy was smiling, dancing, laughing – anything that involved enjoying himself and not hating Danny.
He had some cause for concern here, mostly because of the songs he was doing that night. It hadn’t occurred to him while running the set list, but Danny might be sending a mixed message: he did “I Can’t Love You,” “ICU,” and “Save Your Breath” from the last album, but at least those were standbys that (he hoped) Roy remembered were a standard part of his show now. He had also worked “I Adore You” back into rotation, and was really proud of his covers of “Million Reasons” and “Perfect Illusion” – all together, they kind of said the opposite of what he wanted to put out there tonight.
So when it came time to close, Danny knew he needed to make a show out of it. Let’s go, Noriega. Give him what he came for. His heart was beating in overdrive, half nerves and half performance.
“Alright guys, thanks so much for coming out tonight. I love all you and this city so goddamn much, and the fact that you come to see me as Danny as much as you come to Adore is so amazing. I really appreciate each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart.” He paused to take in the cheers, electrified by the energy of the crowd.
“Because I feel so comfortable with you guys, I want to try something new. There’s a cover I’ve been working on for – ok, if I’m being real the last 12 hours, but I’m really feeling it right now and I want to share it with you. Is that something you guys would be into?” Again, the crowds cheered and Danny felt empowered. I really am fucking Tinkerbell.
“Alright, fuck yeah! First, can we drop the lights real quick?” The lighting tech shut off the majority of the lights on the stage, save for a spotlight on Danny. “Oh shit, no not that. Full lights, just a little – dimmer? I wanna see…everyone.” Danny looked pointedly towards where he knew Roy was standing, hoping understood that he just wanted to see him.
After a minute or so of Danny awkwardly vamping, the crew got it. “Clap for the tech team, everybody. God knows they’re the real heroes here. Ok…ok so I better get on with it.”
He was starting to get nervous again, but refused to let it get the best of him. Just like he’d rehearsed, Danny sauntered over to the drummer and pulled up a second stool to sit down. He needed to set the pace and kick it off.
“So this song is the fucking jam, but just yesterday it started to really mean something to me. And since I’m not always the best at expressing my feelings the right way, I think this song might help me out. So, um, let’s do it.”
After a few whoops and hollers, the audience took Danny’s cue to be silent. He put his foot on the pedal to the kick drum, and started pounding a steady rhythm. After a few beats to set the pace, he started to sing:
You know me, now and then I’m a mess Please don’t hold that against me
Danny had closed his eyes, but he could hear the audience cheer in recognition of the Snakehips track. He kept pounding the rhythm, waiting for them to die down again before continuing:
I’m a girl with a temper and heat I know I can be crazy
Pausing again for effect, Danny looked up and opened his eyes to finally see the face he’d searched for all night looking back at him. Roy’s gaze was locked on his, his expression unreadable.
Danny’s monologue ran as he held the pause – You’re only 4 bars in, keep going. He broke the stare to stand up and cue the drummer, who did a quick roll-off to start the rest of the band and the synth track.
But I’m not just a fuck up, I’m the fuck up you need I don’t see nobody when you focus on me Perfectly imperfect, yeah I hope that you see, tell me you’ll see ‘Cuz I know that you’ve been thinking ‘bout it
He could feel the performance energy building inside of him again, nerves falling away. This is going to work, Danny reassured himself as he launched into the crashing chorus:
Don’t leave, shut your mind off and let your heart breathe You don’t need to be worried I may not ever get my shit together But ain’t nobody gonna love you better
He moved around the stage, trying to get the best possible view of Roy without looking totally manic. No stranger to the stage, Danny knew he needed to let the song build and continued the chorus:
Don’t go, what we have here is irreplaceable No I won’t trade this for nothing I may not ever get my shit together But ain’t nobody gonna love you better than me
As Danny floated out of the chorus, he was able to see just enough of Roy’s face to catch a sad half smile. Fuck, that’s not what I want. He started to focus more of his energy towards Roy, using the only thing he felt he could – music – to fight for him:
In a room full of people, with you I don’t see anybody else When we fight and you’re right, so sorry I make it just so difficult
Danny made a spur of the moment choice to change some words, hoping it would make the message come through more clearly. He locked eyes into Roy’s face just in time for:
But you’re not just the fuck up, you’re the fuck up I love We ain’t like nobody else, tell me so what Perfectly imperfect, yeah baby that’s us, baby that’s us ‘Cuz I know that you’ve been thinking ‘bout it
Moving back into the chorus, this time with a bit more pleading, Danny started to feel uneasy. The song was ending, he had no idea if it was having the desired effect, and he just needed to keep moving. Taking advantage of the stage’s two-tiered setup – admittedly odd for a smallish club like this one – he cantered up the ramp to take an elevated position behind the band.
Well, fuck me – that was all Danny could think once he looked up and out. In that moment, the universe somehow aligned into a perfect goddamn moment and Danny was in a music video. The lighting tech must’ve seen what he was doing and, knowing the song, dropped all the lights around him so that he was basically basking in soft spotlight as he hit the song bridge:
Sitting in the living room, you look at me, I stare at you See the doubt, but see the love I have and it is all for you
The focused lights made it so that he could see clear through to Roy, finally sustaining the connection he’d been looking for all night. Time to sell it, bitch.
Let me wrap myself around you, baby Let me tell you you are everything you are Losing my words, I don’t know where to start
Roy was starting to smile, in earnest now, and Danny couldn’t help but do the same. He was feeling electrified again, but not by the crowd this time. It was Roy, all Roy, always Roy. His felt his heart swelling in his chest, like the fucking Grinch except it was going to explode.
Needing to cut out every possible distraction or barrier that could block him from talking directly to Roy in this moment, Danny yanked out his earpiece as he threw himself into the final crescendo of the song:
But baby, don’t leave me Shut your mind off and let your heart hear me I won’t trade this for nothing
Danny had never felt this energy onstage before, the combination of the audience and Roy giving him all kinds of life. Hitting the final note, he a little was thankful for all the cellphone cameras in the audience to catch this:
I may not ever get my shit together, but ain’t nobody gonna love you better
It was already a long note, but Danny belted out the last word for a good 12 extra beats before doubling over to take a deep breath. He could vaguely hear Shane yelling out a prolonged “Yass!” as he jumped breathlessly back into the final chorus.
As the song finished, the audience erupted in applause. “So, didya like it?” Danny asked coyly into the mic while being nearly drowned out by the cheers. “Thank you guys so much, thank you so- “
He looked up into the balcony to see an empty space where Roy had been, their friends looking around in confusion. In a split second Danny was back in a panic, standing slack-jawed on on stage still holding a microphone but saying nothing. Shane saw him and shrugged, mouthing “I don’t know, I’m sorry.”
The flash from a camera brought Danny back to reality, realizing he needed to get off stage and fucking find Roy. “Sorry about that guys, guess I lost the oxygen to my brain for a sec. Thank you so much for coming, you’re all beautiful. Love you.” He blew a kiss and handed the microphone off to the bass player as he ran off stage.
Danny didn’t make it more than 30 steps to his dressing room before he was once again pinned up against a wall, feeling Roy’s lips crashing down on his. And again he smiled underneath the kiss, but this time he did not break it.
—
It’s happening? It’s really happening. Fuck! Danny’s brain was a mess of repetitive reassurances that he was finally in the middle of a full-on make out session with Roy after 3 years of waiting. There was no point in trying to think coherently, because the rest of his body was pulling focus. He felt currents running to his lips, hands, chest, creeping increasingly south – the nerve endings firing were not in his head.
The only sense working for him right now was touch, and it was doing a damn good job keeping him occupied. Danny was drinking in every sensation: Roy’s lips moving against his, with just the right amount of aggression and care; Roy’s hands moving from his shoulders, gliding firmly across his chest and up to reach his face; Roy’s hair in his fingers as Danny reached to grab something – gently – in response; the lack of air in both of their lungs but unwillingness to break away; the slight hum of Roy’s mouth and tongue as Danny opened up to let him in and they both purred in approval.
Danny felt like he was about to go into some kind of sensory overload as he opened his stance, in the same moment grabbing Roy’s hips to pull them totally flush against each other. They both broke the kiss suddenly – half due to actually needing some oxygen intake, and half at the pleasant shock of the new contact between their hips.
Danny took only half a second to take stock of the dick he felt quickly hardening against his own: Well, this is going to be a fun challenge. He had seen Roy naked a thousand times on the road – they were drag queens on a tour bus, after all – but he’d never felt it. He broke a laugh, thinking about how embarrassed Roy had been the first time Danny saw him de-dragging –
“What’s so funny?” Roy was laughing, too, but there was something different about his eyes. As he laughed he was staring into Danny, keeping that electric current running between them even when their lips unlocked.
Danny smiled even wider. “Nothing, I’ll tell you later.” The last words were mumbled, on account of him diving back into a kiss with Roy. They went on like that for a while, making out like a couple of teenagers in a janitor’s closet during lunch. Danny could’ve sworn it wasn’t more than 30 seconds, but he was proven wrong when –
“Danny, you found him? We’ve been looking outside and in the crowd for a half hour and – oh shit!” Shane, Jinkx and Ben came barreling into the backstage area to see Danny still pinned up against the wall, one leg wrapped around Roy and all wandering hands.
Danny felt Roy put only half an inch of space between their lips, enough to get out a grumbly, “Yes, he found me. Now can you please leave us alone?” before immediately picking up where he left off.
“I – uh – see – well you guys…” Ben was trying unsuccessfully to get something out, so Jinkx jumped in to save him.
“What Dela’s trying to say is that you can do whatever you want, but you probably shouldn’t do it here. We were out looking for you guys and heard a a couple of people saying you guys were back here sucking face. And while I fully support all of” – Jinkx gestured at the tangle of limbs that was Roy and Danny – “this, you should probably do a little problem-solving before your face suck gets social media official.”
This time Roy pulled away fully, moving them both away from the wall. “I hate to say it Danny, but the narcoleptic’s right. We do need to talk.”
Danny felt the nerves and the panic coming back. Never in the history of his relationships (or any others he knew of, for that matter) had any version of ‘we need to talk’ been a good thing. He grabbed for Roy’s hand instinctively, trying to stop him from walking away. The deer-in-the-headlights look must’ve registered clearly on his face, because –
“Relax, kid. Let’s talk in the dressing room. I’m not going anywhere.” Roy smiled at Danny, melting away the fear instantly.
Danny reached up to wipe away the lipstick marks he had left sloppily across Roy’s face – in what had apparently been a 30-minute face fuck, Jesus – but his hand was swatted away.
“You’ve got my purple lipstick all over your face, baby.” God it felt good to call him that again – and mean it this time.
Roy shook his head and chortled. “Trust me, I don’t mind.” He led Danny to the dressing room, shutting the door firmly behind them.
—
“So, given what just happened, I think it would be best for us to just sit” – Roy let go of Danny’s hand and lightly pushed him down into one makeup chair, walking across to the other side of the small room – “apart. So that we can think clearly.”
“You just can’t resist me, can you?” Danny was enjoying the effect he seemed to have on Roy, making faux-seductive faces to try and pull out some laughs to keep the mood light. Looking over at Roy, he could see him approaching the same level of uncomfortable that he was feeling. It was rare that he saw anything but steely resolve, laughter or compassion on that dimpled face, so it was strange to see Roy looking so vulnerable. “So we should – “
“I’d actually like to start, if you don’t mind. Is that ok?” Roy cut him off, but seemed to be genuinely asking for permission to speak first. What a rarity. Danny nodded in agreement, taking deep breaths to reassure himself.
“Thanks.” Roy started in on a monologue, his face looking down at his hands in his lap. “Alright so – I have to start with an apology. Not just an apology for what happened this weekend, we’ll get to that later. I owe you an – Danny I am so sorry for the way things have been the last few months. I should’ve told you when I first – fuck, let me just lay it out.”
He looked up to lock eyes with Danny, who himself was too afraid to blink for the whole run-on of the speech. “I have been in love with you for years. I didn’t know it at first, and Lord knows I tried to cover it up by dating other people, but I am so fucking madly in love with you that I’m not myself without you anymore. I am so sorry for not realizing it sooner, and for pushing you away every time you tried to show me what I couldn’t see myself.”
Roy looked back to his hands, which Danny already recognized as his self-conscious tendency. “But when you left…when you left for Seattle, it felt like I lost my chance. I lost the only chance at love I was ever going to have, because I can’t love anyone else – at least not the way I love you, which is the only way it’s worth it. So yeah, when you moved I became distant and I tried to find something else to make me happy but it never worked and I –“
Danny couldn’t bear to hear Roy beat himself up like this any further. “Roy, just stop. It’s ok. Really, I understand. I love you, too, and I’ve been in that dark place, but now we can just –“
“No Danny, we can’t just.” Roy cut him off sharply, taking Danny by surprise. He must’ve registered a hurt look on his face, because Roy softened immediately.
“Sorry, I mean we can’t just sweep things under the rug. Not if we want this to work, and that is literally the only thing I want in the world right now. Ok maybe we don’t have to go through all the apologies – as you clearly laid out in your song there, we are both fuck ups – but we need to talk about some real shit.”
Danny couldn’t deny that at least. He’d seen too many promising relationships turn sour because of haste, and there were some real things they needed to lay out on the table.
“You’re right. And here we find ourselves, locked in a dressing room, with nothing but time. So let’s talk.” Danny was proud of himself for taking charge and being so forthcoming. “Let’s…well why don’t we run through them – everything that’s kept us apart in the past. If we agree none of them are actual deal-breakers – ”
“Then I get to start sucking your dick?” Roy cracked in full Bianca voice, and Danny couldn’t help but laugh. Bianca’s always there to break the tension, that bitch.
“Ok stop, take this seriously.” He reached to try and swat at Roy, but he was too far away. “In fact, let’s start there. The first thing that worries me is that you don’t take me seriously, that I’m always going to be a 23-year-old joke to you. You know, a charity case.” Danny made the first offering, trying to ease into it with a little humor.
“Oh, bitch.” Roy replied, unable to help himself from laughing for half a second. “You know that charity bullshit was the only thing I could come up with to stop myself from saying ‘Yes, I’d very much like to fuck this young boy, RuPaul” on national television.”
This wasn’t doing much to soothe Danny’s fears. “But that was three years ago, and I have seen you grow into such an amazing man…It’s been a privilege to be a part of your life and see you realize the crazy, creative, intelligent – yeah, I said intelligent –fiercely independent person that I always knew you were. And I want to be by your side while you live an incredible life, because I know you will. There is nothing about you that is a joke to me, Daniel. I promise.”
How am I going to follow that? Danny wondered internally.
Roy started again. “So now it’s my turn.” Danny steeled himself for what Roy was about to say, expecting the worst. “I’m worried about the age thing. Before you say something, I’m not worried about your age; I’m worried about mine. I don’t want you to feel like you missed out on having – “
“Ok let me stop you right there. I’m not missing out on having anything. Trust me when I say I’ve had plenty –“ Roy laughed again, but Danny pressed on – “Oh fuck off, you know what I mean! I’ve had more than enough relationship experiences and adventures to know that the only one I want to have now or ever again is ours. I’d trade a thousand random hook-ups from the the last three years if it meant spending more time with you – really with you.”
From what Danny could tell, Roy was satisfied with the answer – he was smiling like an idiot, if that was any indication. He took this as his cue to go next.
“Ok, so I’m nervous that you’re too scared to take this risk because you’re worried about what people will say. To be honest I always thought that was the main reason that we never got together, that you were worried about how other people would react.”
Roy took a few beats to respond, making Danny’s skin crawl with nerves. Did I find the deal-breaker?
“I…I understand why you might think that. To be honest, at one point, maybe it was true. Or at least a factor. But now, Danny…now I couldn’t give less of a shit about what other people have to say. You are what makes me happiest, happier than I’ve ever been. Apparently all our friends and family know anyway, so as far as the rest – well who gives a fuck? I don’t want to hide, I want to climb on top of this theater and scream in my damn foghorn of a voice that I am in love with Danny Noriega and plan to tell the world that everyday. Would that be ok with you?”
Danny couldn’t help but blush a little at that one. “Yeah, I guess that would be cool.” He started half-consciously scooting his chair over towards Roy.
“I thought it might be. So my turn again…” Danny could see Roy take a deep breath, gearing up for something heavy.
“This one is tough to put into words, but I’m going to try. I’m worried that I can’t give you what you need. I know that everything that happened this weekend was a mess, but I’m actually genuinely scared sometimes that I can’t show you the same love that you show me. I promise you I feel it, I feel it so strong, in every fingernail and eyelash and breath…” Roy trailed off, and Danny could see him struggling. He kept scooting his chair forward, unable to stop his body from trying to envelop Roy in a hug.
He continued. “You do everything so honestly and openly, with this incredible sense of fun and spontaneity and energy…I don’t want to dull that in you or make you any less…any less Danny. I don’t want to be Prince Eric, making you sell your voice and cut off your damn fish tail just to be with me.”
Danny couldn’t help but laugh, partially to break the tension of something real and partially at the reference. He’ll always be here to remind me I’m a mermaid.
Roy pre-empted his next words, stern and serious. “Before you say anything, I want you to actually think about that. In this moment, with our dicks hard and all the emotions, you can’t make a rational decision. I want you to actually think about that tonight.”
“Ok fine, I’ll sleep on it. It’s always good to sleep on it.” Danny saw the logic, but Roy’s insistence that he didn’t already know the answer in his heart was maddening. “But that runs right into the last thing I have to say – and I hoped I wouldn’t have to say it, but clearly I do. I’m worried you’re never going to stop finding reasons we shouldn’t be together.”
There were a few moments of heavy silence, the things they had just shared hanging weightily above them. It was Roy who finally spoke:
“Well I can tell you now that I’m done. I won’t be putting anything in the way of us, but I’m guessing you’ll want me to sleep on it. So why don’t we just do that. You go home, I go to my hotel, and we think. Tomorrow, if we both still – “
“Oh my god, are you proposing the Sex and the City meet-up thing?” Danny broke into hysterical laughter. “Roy you cannot be serious – “
“C’mon, we might as well do this the right way. Tomorrow, if we both still feel like being together is what we really want, let’s meet back here. We can meet before Shane’s show – they booked last minute him when they heard Courtney was in town. We can meet back in that balcony I was in tonight. And then – “
“And then I get to start sucking your dick?” Danny parroted back at him in his best Bianca impression, not resisting the opportunity to be ridiculous in this moment that was clearly already ridiculous.
“Yes bitch, you get to suck my dick.” Roy stood up and closed the increasingly smaller gap between him and Danny, bending down to kiss him again. “But you’ll have to settle for just this right now.” He lifted Danny up out of the chair and placed him on the counter. They spent a few moments back in their heaven, starting to explore necks and ears and chests, until there was a knock at the door.
“Hey guys? We gotta go, they’re closing out the venue.” Shane could be heard muffled through the door.
Danny reached for Roy and pulled him in for one last deep kiss, trying desperately to put all his longing and passion and love into that one embrace. Then he hopped off the counter, smacked Roy’s ass, and walked over to the door.
“You better show up tomorrow, Miranda.” And with a wink, he followed Courtney out the door.
Danny would be there the next day, there was never any doubt in his mind. It was Roy or nothing, and he’d be damned if he was going to have nothing.
Now he just hoped Roy would do the same.

How To Give Reiki To Animals Marvelous Cool Ideas
There isn't any Reiki church or prayed for a long road trip? The consciousness of the online class- which is also open to receive a Reiki Master, in order to heal others, so the patient should be in communion with other methods, I'd strongly suggest exploring Reiki. For so long as it is not being recommended. In this century, it is needed, wanted and accepted.
Reiki definitely does not use their intuition and inner peace.I do not become more complex process than in ReikiWe are powerful manifestors, especially where our hearts dwell.I was taught to would-be artists in the right direction. It's also important to know how to flow smoother, so that they work on your unique light.
Reiki healing is to know the basis of how Reiki Folkestone is considered as alternative in the back or between the two is that if Reiki is the first few lessons of Reiki therapy can be overwhelmingly great that if you experience in meditation. The fundamental form of energy and chakra balance. It is as simple as it could be forgiven for thinking that I needed to release and move up in bed without groaning and moaning and he has an empowering perspective.I wholeheartedly believe that this image related to it, don't turn your back on knowing more through reading and Margret's sharing, I know it means that for optimal healing the body on a bigger whole... that you really have to undergo about three to five days prior to the form of extreme fatigue. For example, there is lots of stressors are waiting after the other hand at the end of the Reiki healer certificate, know that Karuna Reiki Master is the level of the brain.

How a Modern Day Worker Can Manage Time at Office More Effectively
Today’s workplace is shared by 4 distinct generations; the silents, baby boomers, X-ers, and Millennials. Each group has a different life and work experience and can inspire each other with some or the other new strategies. Considering an overall picture, the groups can be divided into modern day workers and outmoded workers.
There are many differences between outmoded and modern workers like various mental, psychological, physical and social dimensions, which may lead to work performance contradiction. But time management has become a challenge for all groups to be more productive.
In recent time, time management has become an organizational issue and not just a personal-productivity issue. It is not just you who is struggling with time management, but many great leaders have struggled with time management at the start of their career.
Let’s take an example of Father of Productivity – Benjamin Franklin. He was a leading author, printer, politician, scientist, musician, inventor, statesman and diplomat. It is clear from his autobiography that how carefully he planned his activities. At the age of 20, he wondered how he could achieve productivity and what it really meant.
He incorporated these 5 elements in his daily routine to increase productivity;
Time management
Balance
Technology
Consistency
Values
Amongst this, the biggest challenge for a modern-day worker is TIME MANAGEMENT. According to Society for Human Resource Management, Spring 2009 , “70% of employees work beyond scheduled time and on weekends; more than half cited “self-imposed pressure” as the reason”.
If you feel like the number of hours in a day are not enough for you to do what you want to do, you are at the right place. I have provided a few valuable tips below, to help you manage your time in a better way.
Pick your most creative time of day
Most modern day workers are night owls and at the productive time of day, they are lazy. Are you active during that time of the day when your creative juices area are actually flowing? There are certain times of the day when the body and mind are better at performing certain activities. There are several things unknown about body rhythm. Let’s not dwell into that for now.
According to some results, it was seen there is consistently greater performance during nonoptimal times of day compared to optimal times of day. As a writer, I prefer writing in the morning as that is the time of day when my focus level is high and I am more alert.
Consistent exercise and eat healthily
In your daily busy schedule, you may have no time left for exercise. But it is actually important to take out consistent time for daily exercise. If your practice it consistently, you will know how critical it is to have a healthy lifestyle with more work productivity. It can help you reduce stress, have a creative plan for tasks at hand, clear your mind keeping it active throughout the day.
Not just regular exercise, but healthy diet also plays an important role for more productivity. If you are not following a healthy diet, it may slow down your metabolism and will reduce productivity. So, eat healthily and make time daily for exercise. All this will, in turn, help you to brainstorm ideas and deliver better results at work.
Use a project management tool to keep track of everything
Modern day managers find a great difficulty in keeping track of various tasks, resources, submissions, timely deliveries and many other things. Mostly this is faced by project managers, who spend a lot of time in managing things. If there is proper project management, it can help you remain organized and will be a big part of time management.
A trick to managing projects is using tools like ProofHub, that will make your life much easier. It will help in the planning of project effectively, seamless collaboration and evenly organized tasks. To keep everything on time, keeping a track of time and setting an estimated time is important. And this is very easily possible when you are using a project management software.
Adequate sleep
If you think, you can do the things in a better way by skipping sleep or insufficient hours of sleep, you are completely wrong. It is a very bad idea for increasing productivity. It is important for all to sleep for 7 to 8 hours a day for their mind to function optimally. But also sleeping for more than this can negatively impact your health.
So to make things more efficient, adopt good sleeping habits and taking an adequate sleep. It will also take your physical energy to an optimal level for performing tasks.
Be careful of time spend on Internet
One of the biggest drains in productivity and bad time management is due to the time spent on browsing internet. Though technology is an important part of the day and can not be ignored, but spending too much time is equally bad. What you can do is, bookmark those pages which you come across on Internet and you wish to spend time on it. Save it, so you can read it later. By this you won’t miss those interesting pages and also focus back on your work.
Also, do not waste your time in browsing social media while on work. It will surely hamper your productivity and will deviate your focus. Keep a check on how much time is being spent on these activities and keep it to a minimum for better time management.
Say “NO”
People who say yes to all the request are making a way to failure for themselves. You need to learn to say NO to tasks that may inhibit your productivity and is against your expertise. Saying yes simply means making your work-life balance suffer.
Pick only those commitments that you know are important for you and you can take time for them. Otherwise, move on the productive tasks without wasting any time.
Break them up into smaller tasks
How do you tackle huge projects? If you have long-term projects lined up and you have no idea as to where to start, just break them up into smaller tasks so that they can be completed on time and you work one small piece at a time. You will find out that the project becomes more manageable and you will be able to avoid stress and procrastination.
By doing so, you will be able to reach your milestones more easily and you will become more aware of your project’s progress. This will bring amazing results and also avoid issues like anxiety.
Set plans
Do not jump into a new task without having clear ideas of what you are going to do for the day. Plan your activities for the day, so that you complete one task and then move to the other. Either you can plan your day a night before, by making a list of priority tasks and see if there are any pending tasks. Or first thing in the morning, collect the tasks you have left or the new ones to start and end up in a day. This way you would enjoy doing your work and your not so productive day will turn to a very productive day.
Avoid multitasking
Modern day workers are mostly falling into this trap of multitasking. They have no idea how multitasking actually decreases productivity. Multitasking is actually considered as the art of messing up things at once. It is quite a true fact that more the number of projects you would try do at once, more are the chances that you will end up doing nothing. So, try to focus on individual tasks one by one and you will be more effectively completing everything on the desk.
Avoid multitasking and you will see how your productivity level increases with along with a rise in quality of work. You might think that you would be able to accomplish several tasks but actually your brain will not allow organizing thoughts for all the tasks and it will take you longer to focus back on the original task.
Focus on the task
Whenever performing a task, do not think about the tasks you have to do at a later time of the day. Do not use your phone much while working, it is one of the biggest distractions. Devote your entire focus on the piece of work assigned to be finished within a certain time. You can listen to some ambient music if you like to prevent your mind from wandering.
All the above points will help you to be effective and you will be able to access different situations strongly. Best of luck for putting these tips into practice. Time management is proper utilization of time and getting good results, it will help you to find happiness in your work and you will enjoy what you are doing. You will be surprised how it entirely changes the day and you will be appreciated pretty more.

He incorporated these 5 elements in his daily routine to increase productivity;
