I was talking with this girl in my history class and i went “oh yeah, isnt it international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people?”

she kinda looked confused and asked “how did you know I’m Palestinian?” So i explained she mentioned it a couple weeks back. I mentioned her bracelets and how i liked them (they were bracelets saying her support of palestine) and she said how she couldn’t wear her broach because of threats she was getting.

She seemed extremely fucking happy to be able to talk abt this, so i let her talk as much as she wanted to, pitching in once in a while to get a response of “EXACTLY!”

she told me how happy she was to be able to find someone agreeing with her, and when i asked how no one else had, she said everyone either wasn’t speaking up or was pro-israel.

This is the fucking bare minimum!! And she hadn’t found ANYONE to talk to.

Talk to people you know!! She looked so relieved at someone LISTENING TO HER!! She has family IN GAZA RIGHT NOW that have been shot, and cousins killed in the 2000’s. Her whole family is in gaza. taylor swift’s specific brand of feminism is one where she has always been the last person to speak out about human rights and then only does it when it serves her and does the absolute bare minimum. her brand of feminism is calling out the government or stupid fucking confederate statues instead of real, pressing issues. and she came out with that stupid miss americana documentary which i watched once and literally never again in order to paint herself as some progressive white woman champion lmfao. and i’m not here to villainize her because clearly i’ve been a huge fan of hers for the better half of my life and i do agree that she has been a victim of a lot of unnecessary sexist hate and i wouldn’t wish 2016 on anyone but that’s quite literally the extent of her victimhood. everything she has ever endured has been solely to the extent of what a White Woman can endure. taylor swift’s whiteness allows her to selectively choose when she wants to apply her activism (aka defending herself regarding a stupid joke in ginny & georgia) and it allows her to be protected against further hatred that woc and celebrities of color constantly feel and it allows her to date this vile man without feeling any of his hatred directed towards her. she CHOSE to call herself miss americana and act like she’s been on a long journey to becoming an activist lmfao yet does nothing to prove it. and it’s exhausting as a poc to continuously beg her to speak up about shit and then have her go around and not just date him but allow him to play on her stage and continuously be seen being friends and holding hands and kissing him. and she’s not just silly celebrity making a dumb choice, she is quite literally the most famous pop star right now and the people she surrounds herself with MATTER. her associating with people like this only further validates their beliefs and hatred. and i don’t wanna hear a single mf talk abt “letting her be happy” or “staying out of her personal business” bc y’all loved dragging joe once they broke up and y’all love dragging jake and y’all love dragging john so why don’t people actually invest their energy into shaming someone who has an entire history of problematic things he’s happily admitted to doing and start standing up for people who deserve to be stood up for (aka the marginalized groups and individuals he continues to attack and NOT the white woman who supports his actions).

i love taylor swift but let’s not pretend that she’s some white woman champion of progressive rights when at most she’s only spoken up and said the most vanilla shit only when it has convenienced her. as fans, we have the right to be angry about her recent recurring associations with him not just as her boyfriend but as someone who she has allowed on her stage (with phoebe) and call her out on her associating with extremely problematic behavior. this isn’t a post saying we should cancel her or that she’s racist herself or anything, but it’s a reminder that she has always been very much of a white feminist and she needs to see how her actions and associations affect her fans and promote harm.

22. What does your character like in other people?

     If the things Serena likes in other people had to be condensed down into traits, the main ones, non-negotiable if the other person wants any sort of chance of her sticking around, are:

     1. Honesty/Straightforwardness— Not the 'brutal' sort that some might think gives them a free pass to be cruel, but simply telling her how it is. You are getting to know one another, she asks if you have a hobby and you do not? Tell her that. She is a woman who has grown up being corrected and praised at every turn, but only in honesty. She wants to hear people's real thoughts, she will survive hearing that maybe you do not love the rain like she does, or that your day is not going well and you would rather sit in silence. Serena has had her kindness taken advantage of before, and she will not allow another dishonest person to do so again.

     2. Lack of forcefulness — Encouraging her to do something is one thing, forcing her hand or backing the heroine into a corner is another. She has had more than enough of her fill of that when Calem pressured her into battling him for the keystone, Xerosic forcing her to press one of the buttons to inactive or active the Ultimate Weapon, and Lysandre's attempts on that fateful day to put her in the place of the opposite to his convictions if she would not join them. The sort of people she takes a shine to are those who do not compromise on themselves to make her comfortable, but treat her with that same mentality. Let her exist in the moment, within her own boundaries, and she will eventually open up and let go.

     3. Open-mindedness/lack of judgement — Tragically, she is not immune to a good discussion on topics that maybe need a little more thought to string together coherent opinions over. She has matched words and wits with Lysandre, and although she avoids trying to relieve any situation close to the times when he was her mentor, Serena genuinely enjoys challenging her own thoughts and opinions. Walking in the shoes of others, metaphorically, and expanding her views. If someone else exceeds or matches that, regardless of topic or its seriousness, it is a sure-fire way to gain some extra points with Serena.

     4. Kindness/Compassion — Towards both people and pokemon. One or the other is not enough to Serena, and will immediately register someone as either untrustworthy or jaded in a way that she wants no part in. She will watch very closely how someone interacts with strangers, with friends, with their pokemon, those in the wild, and belonging to others. At the end of the day, the heroine cannot and will not associate with someone who cannot show one of the most basic things, in her eyes. And she knows if they are willing to treat others so poorly, it is only a matter of time before they will treat her in the same way.

     5. Respectfulness — Not in the sense of respecting her position as Kalos' champion and hero, or anything to do with her career, but simply as a person. If someone can treat her like a normal, regular person, it is far more endearing to her than someone whose first instinct is to fuss over shallow things such as her appearance or titles. At the end of the day, she never asked for most of her situation, and Serena craves any sense of normalcy. She also needs to feel as though any expression of discomfort or boundary-crossing will be taken seriously. So, respect goes a long way for Serena.

     In reality, they are not all that complicated, or even deep. It could be argued that what she finds the most likeable traits to her are simply just the bare minimum for a healthy relationship—platonic, romantic or otherwise—, but they truly are ones she cherishes.
