Omggg this was favorite thing to drawwww, I’m not that good with glossy textures like HeXuan’s dress but I tried, I wanted both of them to have a very bold, very night club, very euphoria type of dress I also tried for them to be very much opposites in styles, now, SQX I loved drawing her dress, pretty angelic if you ask me, with feathers and a soft mint color

About the rest! Just some sketches of them, I would looove to read a fanfiction of them going to a party together, and like picture, they go as friends right? Maybe a reunion with xie lian and hua cheng andddd maybe Shi QingXuan s a bit drunk and just friendly dancing with everyone, and u have poor He Xuan eating while watching all of that untiiil, Qing Xuan notices this and tries to dance with her and she just continues to say how great that dress (she chose) makes He Xuan look, and maybe they kiss omggg now I’ll have to do more drawings for this

One day, after the first or second kid is born, he walks up to Shi Wudu after decades of glowering to say:

Then she waltzes off to go be Shi Qingxuan's mommy goth girlfriend again. Who fully believes they are living the ultimate fantasy of any romantic and is so glad his most special people are finally getting along. She's been pushing them together long enough

Shi Wudu does not know where he erred in this situation. He never will. That's none of his business, not anymore

so, i've read a lot of people say that beefleaf fanart is misleading for those who haven't read the book because they are not "pastel/goth girlfriends" and, while it's true that the book doen't focus on that at all and that their story is very tragic, beefleaf's fanart is also not inaccurate

precanon beefleaf was pastel/goth friends oblivious to the whole business and it might have been romantic

even if they spend a lot of time in their male forms, that's because when their tragic arc starts one of them can't change anymore! shi qingxuan is obviously trans and he xuan's very interpretably trans as well

postcanon they could potentially become pastel/goth girlfriends

Honestly I think its really weird that like the vast majority of beefleaf fics are mlm like 1172 vs 220???? Like. Ugh. I don't know how to explain it but it makes me feel really weird and uncomfortable that a character that's so heavily transfem coded and at the very least genderfluid has 1172!!!! gay fics and only 220 lesbian??? Idfk maybe its because I myself is a genderfluid lesbian

so okay as a fellow genderfluid lesbian I have a lot of thoughts about this and I could talk all day about it but here's my spark notes -- My girlfriend and I had a really good discussion once about how fanfiction in general is just... not made for trans women or lesbians in general? The genre is heavily weighted toward mlm content, which I suspect is a combination of the genre's history and a lot of cultural weirdness around representing wlw relationships. But trans women (based on her experiences and discussions) just don't consume fanfiction the way other demographics do, and thus also don't produce fanfiction to the same degree.

So the onus falls on other demographics to create that content, but since non-mlm content gets heavily overlooked (because again, the demographics most interested in it aren't reading fanfiction to the same degree as other demographics), people are disincentivized from creating it. The problem with tran girl!SQX and wlw Beefleaf content in specific is that (1) there's just enough plausible deniability about SQX's gender feels that writers can depict her male form without feeling like they ever need to address her genderfluidity/trans femininity, (2) a lot of readers take He Xuan's comments at face value and ditch any nb/female depiction of He Xuan because "clearly he doesn't like it" nevermind that SQX shows she'd leave someone alone if they didn't want to transform with her when talking to Xie Lian, and (3) all the previously mentioned biases present in fanfiction writing communities make it easier to steer toward writing mlm. (Interestingly, when you look at artwork for Beefleaf it's overwhelmingly female depictions and wlw/nblw. Visual mediums don't seem to have the same hang-up that fanfiction does.) I am a strong believer in "You can write what you like and I'll take or leave it", but I also think it's important to consider WHY we keep falling back on creating mlm content when presented with characters whose genders aren't cis. And I wish more people were thinking about it outside of those who are desperately seeking that kind of content.

i’m about to go nap but i’m on my bullshit again and thinkin about post-canon sqx and like.

listen my heart belongs to beefleaf but consider two things:

1) poly beefleaf

2) enemies to lovers good slowburn pei ming/shi qingxuan 😩👌💦 they’re Not Friends in the beginning. He’s taking care of her bc it’s what swd would want. She doesn’t like it, but she desperately needs the help.

slowly.... slowly... somethings shifts. They mourn over their common loss, and it brings them closer. They start to understand each other in a way they never took the time to before. feelings start to fester. sqx is slow to trust, still heartbroken and confused by her continuing feelings for hx. Liking pm doesn’t take those feelings away, either. Now it’s *two* feelings.

and ofc eventually she reascends and becomes a very popular goddess but the only heavenly officials she really has anything to do with are xl, pm and yushi huang.

also like sqx should have as many boyfriends and girlfriends as she wants bc she deserves it

that’s why i think it would be so funny if: - hualian’s daughter took a lot of hua cheng’s unruly personality traits because he’s more interested in being involved in childcare - beefleaf’s daughter took a lot of shi qingxuan’s extreme extroversion because he xuan spends most of his time working

because then, when they end up dating as soon as they are young adults, we have two unhinged demon girlfriends with personalities who drew the most from hua cheng and shi qingxuan, even if the original two take a few centuries to understand how their friendship works
