Nightmare Coated in Metal

A comic I made specifically to fulfill my own need for catharsis

one of my favorite hc about near is that he just drops fun facts literally out of nowhere and keeps doing whatever he was doing after

near, building a card tower

and after a while mello just knows

near, assembling a hot wheels highway: it's almost impossible for opossums to get rabies

near, under a ten storey lego building: praying mantis can change colors to adapt to their environment

mello: wait. like chameleons?

near, already on the eleventh floor, completely silent

mello, side-eyeing rester who just sighs and googles it

Things I would have liked to seen explored in the metal virus arc: Espio dealing with not wanting to be “lead detective.” Not because he’s incapable, not because he wouldn’t be amazing at it; but because of the finality of the loss that would come with it.

Had this conversation in another post: when Vector said that line, it really had a vibe of a father passing on a position to his eldest son…a son who doesn’t feel ready for it despite being plenty capable.

What I would have loved to see in the comic; Espio grappling with the weight of that and maybe just having a moment where he feels his age. Just a little moment, at least.

I mean, the comics do a great service in letting the younger characters have moments of being young…but sometimes it feels a little disproportionate because, well…Sonic and everyone but Vector and Vanilla aren’t exactly all grown up either. Sometimes it can just come off a bit patronising/infantilising…but that’s a whole different conversation.

Item Boxes Are Literal

So Item Boxes and Monitors used to store power-up, items, Wisps, among other things are literal. In the IDW Comics during the Zombot Virus Arc Vector takes on and captures a Zombot Charmy with it, this shows they do exist in universe and are not just a gameplay mechanic. Also, you can fish one up in Big's Fishing Sections in Sonic Frontiers. The Fish-O-Pedia makes mention of the fact they are used to store items.

team chaotix is so funny vector's really like "yeah i make sure this kid brushes his teeth and doesn't hurt himself playing with scissors and held his hand as he took his first steps and was there when he said his first word and tuck him in at eight pm almost every night. we're coworkers <3"

guys what do you think sparked the change of espio and charmy’s dynamic. like what turned espio’s perspective of charmy from “eh this kid’s a bit annoying but i’ll put up with him” to “this is my child and i swear to god if anything happens to him i will be charged with several homicides”

Very much enjoying picking at the things you can do with the differences between an Infected Solver drone and an Inherited Solver drone (of which Disassemblers are closer to the first, i would think, just more customized).

And also because!!! Writing with the internal logic of Drones Is Insects To Me- Solver main hosts as 'queens', Solver not-main hosts as maiden queens, and Disassemblers as drones/worker bees (deeply ironic titles i know). It's fun to think along this line, with baby Solver 'queen' Uzi and her Two Whole Drones. She's doing great honestly good for her.

As promised, my post- Metal Virus Chaotix oneshot is up!

Even though it's finally over, everyone's been pretty traumatized by the Metal Virus. Vector had been worried that Charmy would have a hard time dealing with it. After all, the kid was only five. But he never expected the real problem would end up being an emotional ninja with abandonment issues

Back with the second part of “Things I would have liked to see in the metal virus arc.”

Pretty much the biggest thing: Vector acknowledging how freaking traumatic seeing him get zombified must have been for Espio…

But then, he -is- a great detective…so I figure that he probably already knows damn well what it must be like: the trick is that Espio would probably have to be the one to broach the subject.

And, of course, Espio being Espio…just wouldn’t.

It was actually a lot of fun to play around with -how- to portray Espio here; there’s a fine line one can dance between stoicism and just shutting down on yourself completely, and it was intriguing trying to capture what Espio is clearly feeling despite his best efforts to hide it.
