im the #1 proponent of marrying for love and for who the person is but im also the first to defend that there are “superficial” things that are important too.
i think the two main things considered “superficial” are 1) appearances and 2) money.
the reason these are somewhat fairly labeled superficial is because you can “lose” your physical attractiveness and wealth due to a multitude of reasons at almost any time.
however,
these things MATTER and it’s silly to pretend like they don’t?
for the appearance thing, i find it important to find your partner attractive. i would not like a boyfriend who doesn’t find me attractive or who pretends to. its weird. and of course i also want someone im attracted to. it’s almost always the first step of becoming interested.
as for money. i guess it matters mostly within the context of marriage, but it’s also important. things are expensive and they keep getting more expensive. if you want kids, that’s even more expensive. a house or apartment is expensive. school is expensive. healthcare is expensive. food and medicine is expensive. hygiene products are expensive. electricity and water bills are expensive. a car and gas is expensive. the expenses literally never end, and the more people to account for, the more expensive it is. being in a marriage requires financial stability. for me it’s a non negotiable. like i said, unexpected circumstances exist always. but it’s more about proving you know how to manage money, have a stable job (at the age of marriage), and are able to support a household, either one one or two incomes depending on the agreement.
this isn’t an excuse to make unreasonable demands of someone, but it’s literally acknowledging these things do matter to many people. i saw a tweet by a woman i really respect saying otherwise, and ngl it made me kinda annoyed. and i think it’s easy for her to say since she found a man that is attractive and from what i can tell, very welathy.

https://marriedthedark.tumblr.com/post/163164848029/the-thing-that-just-kills-me-about-rbys
The thing that just kills me about r\/\/by’s writing is that is has it’s moments that are actually brilliant yet they’re completely overshadowed by the far more frequent mediocre/bad writing decisions in the show.
... Oh boy, do I have so much to do with this.
When Jaune was revealed to be entirely self-aware about how useless he was and his desperation to be the hero for once and not the person who constantly needed saving it was such a powerful moment that for me I could never (and still can’t) bring myself to completely hate the guy because that moment was just so well executed and relatable.Â
Okay...what about Jaune’s INTRODUCTORY scene? it was built up with showing him vomiting on the airship, enforcing the dorky side of his personality, but when we actually see him he’s trying to help Ruby up at a low point, enforcing the kind aspect of his personality, and his talk showing just how different but similar he is to Ruby, establishing what his purpose ultimately is: to make Ruby look and feel better by having him in awe of her. This isn’t even going into the specifics of the scene like how Jaune tries to deny the name Vomit Boy with Crater Face, showing that while he doesn’t want to be seen as a joke, he doesn’t really know how to that.
And What about the writing between Ren and Nora’s introductions? We have the build up of Nora chatting on and on about Ren while he goes through his daily routine, giving an impression of annoyance that this usually entails, with her dropping quick bits about their history and how close they are...for Ren to REINFORCE that idea through showing complete calm and casualness at Nora’s quick paced talking. A trope usually used to annoy people is instead used to show friendship.
What about YANG’s introduction? She was introduced with a smash cut to her crushing Ruby in a hug while proclaiming how proud she is of Ruby when the last time we saw her she had busted into a nightclub and smashed it. These two aspects show us who Yang is: A kind hearted, loving woman with a very wild streak almost to the point of recklessness. Not to mention her philosophy of “Do it yourself Ruby” is a setup for her internal conflict with her mother, namely how though Yang wants to know more about Raven, she already knows her because Raven is just Yang taken a few steps too far.
What about Weiss and Blake’s scene in The Stray where they reveal the heart of their conflicts: Blake wants to fight to help her people gain equality because she had seen and heard of the injustice that the Fanaus had suffered, especially by the SDC, and was desperate to make things better. But in doing so, she herself was discriminatory in thinking that Weiss was just being racist for no reason when it’s shown that the way she is due to a very abusive past and a lack of interaction with any Fanaus outside of the White Fang. In fact, Blake’s discrimination goes even further as she just assumed Weiss was racist because she was a Schnee without realizing that maybe Weiss didn’t CONDONE what her father did or even liked the guy. This shows that the conflict is much more netural and much more gray than they both thought.
Hell, when you take a look at Weiss and Blake, who do you see: A paranoid woman that feels trapped by her circumstances who comes from a welathy home that heavily influences her actions but desperately what’s to change things in the organization their parents are a part of. On the basic level of things, Weiss and Blake are very much the same with their defining characteristics being their influences and their experiences. Sort of like how both soldiers in a war have similar histories but are on different sides due to experiences and influences.
What about the introduction of Sun, whose disdain for the White Fang shows us that the White Fang is really fighting for themselves because there are Fanaus on the outside with do not agree with them one bit. In fact, this is shows the foolishness of trying to speak for a whole group because of Sun’s home, Vacuo, being a harsh desert Kingdom who encourage survival at all costs and respect comes form it being earned there by proving yourself and thus the ideas and the methods of the White Fang would come across as unacceptable to him, showing that Sun holds the ideals of his home dear as well as the fact that he is simply different than everyone in the White Fang while also showing that the Fanaus race is just that: A race which means they all have differing ideals and attitudes thus their talk of fighting for all fanaus using violence is just them talking for themselves.
And going off of your Roman point: The contrast of him and Ruby. Roman is an adult male with a primarily white getup who prefers to work alone with a cynical worldview and a inconspcious weapon and Ruby is a teenage female with a primarily black getup who only truly works when partnered with someone and has an optimistic worldview and a conspicuous weapon. This shows just how polar opposite these two characters are. And it shows just how wrong Roman is because when he talks about suriving, he ups and dies. Whereas Ruby, someone who actually lives, is able to survive because she isn’t being negative about her situation. she hasn’t surrender and she isn’t being short sighted thus Ruby has earned the right to live because she will DO something with her life instead of scarping by. This becomes especially poignant in Volume 4 where Ruby has ACKBOWLEDGED that people like Riman where right but shes still going to live life her way because it’s what she thins is best.
And jumping off one villain to a group of villians: What about the similarities in Salem’s inner circle and Ozpin’s inner circle? Cinder is very much like an evil version of Glynda with both being witch themed fighters who use magic like abilities to fight but Glynda is strict to be kind and is trying to toughen up her students whereas Cinder fakes being kind to hide a deep malice in her hold dover her underlings while not really giving a shit about them. Or what about Tyrian and Qrow, both of whom are animal-related fighters who have a balance of speed and power in their styles while ignoring things like dust while also being the right hand man of their leader with extreme loyalty but Qrow cares about others and tries to look out for people whereas Tyrian is a crazed sadist. Hell, don’t make me break out the simialrities between Ozpin and Salem. And this is all to show things are not as they seem and things aren’t black and white.
And in this short time span, I was able to triple your count of good writing moments from 4 to 12 and that’s without going into detail about Ren’s arc and how it was built up and within that, the complexities of Ren and Nora’s relationship, the way Jaune was built up in Volume 4 only to have him shove it aside for Ruby to show how strong she is as a person, how Ruby internalizes her feelings and how it bites her in Volume 4, the shared recklessness between Ruby and Yang, the realistic depiction o0f struggling against an abusive parent with Weiss, the expansion on Blake’s motives for the White Fang with the reveal of her parents being former leaders, the expansion on how Yanga nd Raven mirror one another, how Pyrrha’s death really did signfy a low point but Ruby seeing this showed a catalyst for recovery, how Penny was structured as the perfect way to ramp up the darkness of Volume 3 and so much more. If I w ere to include examples that weren’t fully explained: That would be 22 now with just more for me to think of.
It’s not that RWBY has bad writing all the time, you just refuse to see it because if you keep acting like it’s bad, you can still and try to manipulate the show as you want. Well tough shit: The shows only been getting better whether you want to admit it or not.

— Rejoice, little lambs! We have recovered our own Jeong Eunyoung, spotted prancing about in the Southeast Side. I don’t remember seeing her with any clique back in high school, but I’m not here to spill yesterday’s tea. So straight to the rundown: can you say intelligent and silver-tongued? Apparently now she spends time as screenwriter, novelist and the editor in chief of Elle Korea, and keeps skeletons buried at Prague Tower, 101. But those won’t stay hidden for long, if you and I have any say on it. Welcome back, Shakespeare; we missed you so.
In case you don’t remember the devil’s name, here’s to refresh your memory:
she transferred from an all-girls private academy, eager to reinvent herself after a scandal involving her older brother. from being a member of cheongdam high’s yearbook association to being one of the few masterminds behind cheongdam high’s profound school newspaper, jeong eun young was none other than the anonymous ghostwriter under the pen name ‘alice’ who was known for creating storm and chaos with her writing published in the student literature section. by using the constant gossips and rumors that had enveloped cheongdam high, she rewrites the fellow students involved as original characters playing the roles of the current scandals that they were involved in and reinvents an ideal resolution, in which is believed to be the moral truth and justice. as a former, who had experienced and learned the costs and benefits of sitting at the top of the social heiarchy, she preferred to blend in with the audience and observe that actions of the main cast that had been caught in within the spotlight and campus radar. while she does not negate all the harm she had done in the past, she used the school newspaper’s student literature section as a constant reminder to help her stay on that narrow path of good and right.
Nevermind the memory lane though, the present is always the ripest fruit:
she has become the charismatic workaholic that lives on the first floor of the prestige prague tower. with an endless amount of deadlines headed for her every single week ; from publishing a her own book series, screenwriting for dramas/movies, and directing as editor in chief for elle korea magazine, life had become the embodiment of hardships with less tints of scandalism compared to during days within cheongdam high. during her spare time, eunyoung remniscents the past and re-evaluates her actions and decisions. while partially remaining the same, she keeps family, co-workers, and close friends by her side. while hating to be reminding of her past mistakes during rush hour, she avoids a familiar face and walks the opposite direction or play the amnesia card.
But we are nothing if not open books – my job is to ensure you get to the best pages:
jeong eun young grew up in cheongdamdong, seoul with her wealthy parents, jeong taehyun, the head brain surgeon physician at myung sei hospital, and jeong jiyoon, a korean art history professor at yonsei university. before her arrival at cheongdam high, she attended an all-girls private academy, where she ran as secretary within the student council. during her time as secretary, she was a prideful self-righteous student. while her head was focused towards maintaining order and a better educational environment for her fellow classmates, she had since then felt guilty for turning a blind torwards the lower-leveled students, who were always being bullied by upper-levels for no particular reason. until an empty seat had been created, there was much talk about some of the members of the student council being involved with the student’s absence. at that moment was when she realized her position had become a burden, her parents had decided for her to transfer to a new campus environment to experience a new perspective. her older brother, jeong eun woo, is four years older than her. before sent to study abroad to complete his doctorate’s degree in the medical field, he was involved in a scandal. unlike her brother, the stereotypical spoilt and icy socialite did not exist within her genes. oftenwise, she would often make herself as a stoic and untalkative individual within the presence of other welathy families that gather whenever a special occasion arises. while away from her childhood and from her parents’ house, she forced herself to struggle with the norm for a few and couple of seconds. her childhood friend, kim minkyeong, would be the only friend and partner-in-crime whom she would interact. in the past, eun young had also struggled to interact with children wihth the same age. she believed her generation to be the most sloth and dangerous of them all, despite owning and developing skills and necesitites that past generations do not have.

K-pop 101: K-drama basics
Hi!, I’m back again with another edition of K-pop 101. This time I decided to do a sort of lists of k-drama basics, specially for people who want to start watching some dramas.
1. Korean dramas are not your average sitcom/show you may be used to watch. That may be part of the charm haha. What I’ve realized is that theme are so varied but some of them tend to repeat, specially in romantic dramas and that’s is that love almost start as a kind of love-hate relationship that grows to become love (if that makes any sense) with time and communication but most times, that love just feels like it’s the love of their life, like male of female lead would die for the sake of his/her/their partners. For some people, this kind of love is beautiful, for others is cheesy….
You also have historical ones, usually revolving around the life of the prince of that era or magical creatures as nine-tailed foxes or witched. Ex: My girlfriend is a gumiho or the most recent one is Moon lovers: scarlet hearrt ryeo. (note down that the pattern of speech is totally different and historical dramas, for whatever the reason are longer). The ones involving magic are usually tagged as fantasy, the most recent one is Goblin and god,…damn masterpiece.
Another theme worth metioning is crime. I’m so hooked up with crime ones, seriously. I loved with all my heart Signal and I’m currently watching Defendant and Voice.
Another theme is the rich guy falls in love with poor girl. How? Poor girl is not interested in rich guy but in the second male lead, and rich guy will try everything to get her. Eventually, they have many encounters and fall in love. To list a series of dramas with this topic….Boys over flowers.
2. There will always be a second male lead. Yeah, you read right. For some reason in dramas, they always need a second male lead to complete the love triangle, and let me tell you, the second male lead is almost always this nice, caring guy (sometimes, he has such a tragic life story that you can’t help but tell yourself that you need to protect him XD) that you instantly ship with the female lead, thus getting second lead syndrome. For me, the most regretful one was Shinwoo from you’re beautiful, but probably the most famous one is Ji hoo sunbae from Boys over flowers.
3. You have 2 episodes per week with an average length of 40 minutes by episode. Oh yeah, 2 episodes per week sound pretty good to me even though most dramas have a 16-18 episodes in total, which can be extended into another episode or specials if they are popular enough. Now, about the length per episode. First episodes are longer, they take around an hour or an hour and a half to set the mood and introduce the main characters but from that point on, every episode will be around 40 minutes except for the finale, that depending on the drama could amount to 2 hours or even more.
4. Product placements will be all over the place. From smartphones, to clothes, sunglasses, cars and even makeup. Remember My love from another star and Jun Ji hyun’s lipstick being sold out? Now…I’m not sure if she was endorsing the product but holy god….the lipstick she was using got sold out not only once but more than twice.
5. Cameos happen very often. Sometimes you have idols making cameos or others actors.
6. Going back to romance dramas, you’ll realize that public displays of affection are not really important, and holding hands is already like a big deal. So most times, you won’t see the couple making out or kissing passionately but you’ll see them holding hands and quick pecks. It’s more about the romance rather than the sex.
7. I don’t know if you’ll find it as funny as I do, but plot twists as car accidents, amensia, being the heir of a welathy company and so on and on, for naming a few, happen to often, like, for real!
8. Last but not least. Every character is so gorgeous and handome. It doesn’t matter if you are the male lead or the second friend of the male lead, you’re handome and well dressed. Usually the friends are the comic relief of the show and let me tell you they are hilarious.
That’s all I can come up with right now, feel free to add more stuff to the list….
