This is where it all began... Meet Becky!
From the moment we saw her on a hot summer day in 1997, we knew our lives would never be the same. A skeletal horse with severe hair loss and open, weeping wounds from her withers to her girth was picking her way through a pasture littered with junk and weeds. She was without water or shade from the blazing summer sun.
We immediately notified local authorities who ordered the owner to provide appropriate care for this dying animal. Twenty four hours later, we found the horse in the same condition so we took legal action to win custody of her. Within days, she was ours. We named her “Becky’s Hope”, in tribute to one of the co-founder’s grandmothers who was recently deceased and “hope” for the relief of abused and neglected horses everywhere.
The real work of saving Becky began immediately. She was moved to Texas A&M University where she underwent multiple surgeries for her severely infected wounds and was put on a medically supervised program of rehabilitation, including ongoing intensive wound care, immune system support and high nutrient feed. After being neglected and forgotten by her former owner for so long, Becky seemed to know that she was finally in the care of people who loved her. She bore her long medical ordeal with patience and courage.
After months of intensive care and endless attention, Becky made a full recovery. Today she is the beautiful, beloved, gentle matriarch of the horse and farm animal rescue that bears her name.
That being said, Becky is part of the family and is not available for adoption.
