Filing a P-90
âYoung man, a few moments of your time?â
CT-0102 looked up, confused.
â...how so?â the trooper asked. âYouâre, uh, if you want to talk, you can just talk. If you have orders, go ahead and give them. Maâam.â
âIâd rather not force you to discuss something,â the elderly woman said, by way of explanation. âI was wondering if you had a perspective on⌠weapons.â
âWeapons,â 102 repeated. âI guess⌠Iâve been trained with them? Using weapons is my job, I mean? Does that count as an opinion?â
âIt might,â the old woman said. âBut I meant more the philosophy of why a weapon exists.â
She shrugged, one hand resting for a moment on a long box by her side. âAnd, in particular, whether a weaponâs design tells us something about what itâs meant for.â
âThis is getting dangerously philosophical, maâam,â 102 admitted. âItâs above my pay grade.â
âItâs not above mine, I think,â the woman told him. âIf you donât want to talk, say so. I give you that permission, if you need it. But what I mean is that, for example⌠a lightsaber is a Jediâs weapon, and that means that itâs a weapon of defence and of decisive attack. A lightsaber in trained hands is able to both protect others and to bring a quick end to any fight, and the respect it earns from those who see it can prevent a fight in the first place⌠a blaster, meanwhile, well, it depends on the blaster, doesnât it?â
âI suppose thatâs true, maâam,â 102 admitted, glancing up for a moment as the turbulence around the ship increased â for a moment, at least.
There wasnât anything he could do about it, so he just shrugged.
âA small pistol is intended to be concealed,â the woman went on. âItâs a weapon of self defence, but itâs also a weapon for committing an unexpected crime. While a larger, more powerful pistol, thatâs a weapon of intimidation. Itâs bulky enough to be difficult to conceal, and itâs less accurate than a long weapon, so itâs for both scare tactics and bringing a battle to a quick end. So does that mean itâs like a lightsaber?â
102 considered that.
âOur training covered how to handle most weapons, but it didnât really address the cultural side of things,â he admitted. âWe mostly focused on weapons for once a fight is inevitable.â
âQuite,â the woman agreed â 102 hadnât actually got her name at any point. âThe long rifle, which is designed for military efficiency on a battlefield. Harder to conceal in civilian life, almost impossible in fact, but itâs more effective than most weapons on a battlefield⌠at least, until you start dealing with either larger targets that they simply canât damage, or more confined spaces where you want a shorter weapon. They share the attribute of being practical.â
She looked at his eyes, through the helmet. âIsnât that interesting?â
âI guess,â 102 said, not really sure how to react. âWhy do you say that?â
The woman was silent for several seconds, and as she was CT-0102 heard over the battalion push that they were getting close to their deployment point.
âIf you donât mind, Iâd prefer this gunship to take up an overwatch position,â the woman said. âI do apologize, I should have mentioned it sooner.â
She pulled the box over to her, and undid the latches, then paused before opening it.
âWhat about this description of a weapon?â she asked. âA weapon that is designed for killing?â
102 blinked.
âArenât⌠most weapons designed for killing?â he asked. âThatâs why theyâre weapons.â
âNot at all,â the woman replied. âAs weâve just discussed. Your rifle is designed for practical battlefield use. Weight, length, shot count, rate of fire, all these considerations went into making it. Many other weapons are shaped by different design constraints entirely â a hold-out pistol, or a large heavy blaster. A lightsaber. Iâm talking about a weapon that isnât designed for a fight at all. That isnât designed to be seen. Thatâs meant to be used as sparingly as possible, because youâre only meant to use it in the very direst need.â
She pushed open the box, and revealed a kind of long weapon, perhaps a blaster and perhaps not. It looked archaic, with some of the furniture made of actual wood and the rest out of something 102 couldnât even identify, and there were odd protuberances and glowing blue segments on it.
âFor such a weapon, all other considerations would be secondary to lethality,â the woman said. âIf they were involved at all. Itâs not intended to be involved in a battle, where you try to defeat the enemy; itâs not intended for a warning shot. The only purpose is to kill, and it is only to be used when there is no better choice.â
She knelt down on the floor of their gunship, and a few seconds later the Commander called out the launch order. Their assault ship was passing over the target zone, and all the gunships deployed.
Below, 102 could see the desert, and the darting red shapes of Aethersprite starfighters giving them cover against Geonosian fighter craft. More gunships were deploying, blasts going left and right, and 102 grabbed onto the handles overhead with a free hand for stability.
The woman didnât seem to notice.
Instead, she took something from her belt, and slotted it into the weapon. It lit up, and she tapped a few controls before snugging the stock of the weapon into her shoulder.
âItâs a shame, you know,â she said, almost conversationally. âHe was a great friend of mine, once. I thought he still was, until recently.â
âWho was?â 102 asked.
âDooku,â the woman answered, her voice slightly distracted. âEmotion, yet peace⌠my old friend, I do not do this for revenge, but to prevent a greater wrong.â
The strange weapon spat out a bolt of brilliant sky-blue light, one that was like a solid bar connecting their gunship to the ground, and the woman hesitated for a moment⌠then let out a sigh.
âMay you find the peace in death that so failed you in life,â she said, in tones of quiet prayer.
âSorry, but â did you justâŚâ 102 asked.
âWhat the kriff was that?â the gunship pilot asked, over the comm connection.
âWell, you can view it in two ways,â the Jedi Master said, ejecting her lightsaber from the rifle and examining it. âNo, three, I think. Firstly, that my lightsaber and I were united in the need for that to be done. Secondly, that Count Dooku was too great a threat to peace in the galaxy to live. And thirdâŚâ
Jocasta Nu placed the rifle back in its box.
âNobody messes with the Jedi Archives,â she concluded.

Have some more language brainrot for your brainrot
Writer reader getting kind of insecure that even if they write something nobody will understand it, so when Al haithem askes you if he can keep a draft or two just for analyzing, there's hesitant agreement but ultimately you tell him to please burn the documents once he's done. They're too awkward to look at now...
Only he doesn't burn them, in fact he ends up recruiting several people close to the creator with knowledge of olden speak to analyze them. A funeral parlor consultant well known for his historical knowledge, a 500 year old shrine maiden who owns and runs her own publishing house, and a bard who somehow butted his way in on the project. None of them could resist the opportunity to witness the creator's sacred scriptures with their own eyes.
Needless to say, the papers ended up being fought over and have been making their rounds around your acolytes. It started with Ei, who insisted that as an archon she also should see the creator's work with her own eyes. Then once Ningguang found out, she ordered they be handed over to a team of literary analysts in order to be properly handled and deciphered. Things got really messy quick, but have luckily come to a halt as none of the acolytes want the creator to know their random writings are being fought over.
Especially when it comes to the creator's sullen additute. Their acolytes first have to convince their holiness that their inability to read and understand the creator's writing shouldn't prevent you from doing what you love. In fact... could they convince you to write some more?
WRITER OR READER WITH TALENTS HAS MY WHOLE HEART LIKE-
On one hand, same đ id be terrified for my all time fav skrunklies to see my bs
But at the same time i rlly wanna show them goddamit- THANK U FOR THE BRAIN FOOD IM RUNNING LAPS AROUND MY HOUSE THINKING ABT THIS-

You were not a very confident writer.
This had been an avoidable feeling ever since you picked up a pen for the first time and were asked to write a story for school.
You were always anxious turning in essays, letting friends proofread them, anything that would expose your writing to more eyes, because youâd learned the hard way early on that as you get older and better at something, the stuff from the beginning⌠starts to look a lot different than you remember.
things you used to be proud of after having completed them in the moment, were something you struggled not to rip to shreds a year or two after you re-found it.
If it werenât for other writers advising holding onto old work so you can see your progress over time, youâd have probably literally nothing older than one year on your ao3, wattpad, etcâŚ
So when you had the fortunate luck (no it is not unfortunately, you are very happy to be here tbh) to fall headfirst into your video game youâve been obsessed with lately,
You were not planning on showing them any of your writing.
Why would you, after all? Youâve got the weapons, the artifacts, everything they need to be more powerful. Why would you show them a silly little story you wrote? Fanfic or otherwise, not that theyll recognize any characters besides themselves, but still.
Alhaitham, bc ofc it was alhaitham, cocky, deviously aware bastard he is, caught you writing in your spare time first.
Youâd gotten your hands on an old journal (if made you feel better than something completely new, a nice worn leather journal, sold at a secondhand shop from an old adventurer) and had started to write what you could remember about some of your ideas youâd had drafts for in your old world
After initially walking in on you writing in the House of Daena (it was the closest you could get to lofi girl, god u missed her lmao), you nearly jumped a foot in the air bc Haithamâs a nosy bitch and leaned over your shoulder and scared the absolute shit out of you, mans goes from asking politely, to begging you to let him read some of your writing over the course of 3 weeks (a month really)
Finally, after this 6 ft (about 180cm) man leans down one day (youâre sitting writing again), and gives you the most insanely good?? puppy dog eyes??? youâve ever seen on a man???
you give in, revise a draft about 5 times in a row, lose sleep bc ur having a breakdown about alhaitham judging ur writing the night before you give him his copy-
and hand over a small short story for him to read. you specifically leave a little note not to judge you so hard for Haitham bc u werent used to people reading ur work/let alone someone as highly academic as him, ESPECIALLY since your speech is already so much more archaic than his/all of Teyvats-
His stupid green eyes with diamonds look into your soul (are they sparkling??) and he braces your shoulders after you give him his copy,
âMine Greatest Guide, you hath deemed this one worthy of thy trust of your creations personally, I would be a fool to gaze upon it in jest. To take this work as anything less than a masterpiece in its infant stages.â
âŚyou just leave him to it, and are nearly running out of there (u managed to be calm enough to just speedwalk),
and you make a point to not ask what he thought about it, or even bring it up at all
youâre kind of hoping he forgot tbh⌠and so nothing happens!
â
Nothing happens⌠for 2 weeks after you gave Haitham a copy of your short story.
You still donât know Alhaithamâs opinion when you see the advertisement, a sign saying something about, a new book? By YOU???
You nearly start a mob because the shopkeeper insisted you sign some copies, but you only signed a few before too many people overwhelmed you, and seeing it was that same draft- !! Oh god, youâd been agonizing over the spelling errors youâd missed when you gave it to Alhaitham, and now itâs just out there???
(luckily it seems the reviews are positive, but dammit youâve been rereading ur story u gave him for days, and now ur positive itâs shit-)
You make a break for it, and are literally running (more like speed-walking after a while, since u got further away) thru Sumeru City:
you pass by the open patio of a restaurant, the scholars are heatedly discussing ur characterization-
you pass by Dehya, Candace, and Dunyazard, the merc is waving around a copy of ur book, the other two women look excited abt the conversation-
oh my god-
Nahida is relaxing in one of the many little gazebos thruout Sumeru, while Wanderer seems to be reading your story to her-
You fucking track down Alhaithamâs house like a bloodhound.
You are banging the infamous gay roommatesâ front door, panting til ur throat burns raw.
âYes, yes, alright, greetings to you too! I was simply visiting the Acting Grand Sage Alhaitham, tis why Iâm here- Greatest Lord?!â
Kaveh is nearly jumps a foot in the air at the sight of you, but recovers, (youâre still not tho lmao)
and invites you in bc apparently, Alhaithamâs been meaning to talk to you about your draft you gave him!
Oh yeah, youâve got some words to give Haitham after giving him that damn draft privately-
But when he sees you, the fucker just- smiles??
Like heâs done nothing wrong???
Youâre about to tear into him when he speaks first to tell you the good news!
He grabs your hands at the table and gets down on one knee, ohhhh no.
Alhaitham is giving you those damn begging puppy dog eyes again.
âMy Greatest Lord, Giver of Power, and Guide to All, your exquisite story has entranced all of Teyvat, might I please insist you write a sequel? It is an excellent literary piece to analyze⌠or perhaps, even better, share other stories youâve written??â
âŚ
âŚ.Motherfucker.

The most embarrassing series of posts about Lawlu you will ever read: edition Zou (part 11)
Let's continue the "love is a hurricane" tale after the small break :D This time we finish up Zou and get ready for hard decisions to be made and undesired seperation approaching!
A reminder that in Punk Hazard Luffy immediately picked up on Joker and inquired Law to know more, because he realized Law is somehow connected to that person. Picture below for comparison's sake:
But on Zou Lufy learns Sanji is connected to Germa and he doesn't care nor does he want to know anything more. Even Nami is slightly taken aback (though it's Luffy's usual behaviour here!), but that's also because she realized for the first time that Sanji was lying all this time to them and she doesn't know what to think about it.
Law is getting special treatment, basically became Luffy's special interest, and he has no idea about it!
Again, Luffy intends to go alone and do his best not to declare the war on Big Mom in the process. That's because he has his alliance with Law and they can't afford an extra side conflict on the way. Now, would Luffy care about any of that, if it wasn't Law he was having an alliance with? My bet's still on "no".
Still remembering Neko Mamushi's name and that's because he knows seeing Neko Mamushi means he will see Heart Pirates and Law if he sticks around, heh.
Now let's look at things from Law's perspective, even if just for the laughs, shall we? He went to see his Heart Pirates, spent some time with them, then relayed a message to Luffy through Pedro that they're waiting for Strawhats to join them (because remember? Heart Pirates can't leave the whale forest!). Law then learns that either 1. Luffy never joins them 2. Pedro tells him Luffy said "later".
So the result is that Law arrives here seeking Luffy (just like Luffy wanted him to, btw), but I wonder what he might be thinking... "how dare you, Mugiwara-ya, I told you to come and you have more important matters?!" or perhaps "Are they in some kind of trouble? Mugiwara-ya is always in trouble, so it's not unlikely, maybe I should go and check things out". Personally, my bet is on a mix of both, seeing his rather unhappy face above when he looks at Strawhats doing some shanenigans with Nekomamushi haha.
And this is the scene that welcomes Law as he finds Luffy and his crew. He's clearly confused by whatever is happening in front of him. And then Luffy notices him like *immediately* and greets him with huge enthusiasm. Because of course he would, he was trying to be so brave and not miss him every second they're apart, and yet that immediate reaction proves us that Law was constantly on his mind anyway and his eyes were always looking around to spot him the very moment he will arrive. Which is exactly what happened.
Now let's take a look at Law curiously holding his sword in both hands, because there's a story there, shown to us only through visual language. His sword was resting on his arm, but for some reason he grabs it after he witnessed all the chaos. Just a moment later it will return back to his shoulder again. Why?
Just take a look at this:
Remember how he did the same thing much, much earlier in same arc? He grabbed his sword when he sensed danger or a stranger approaching them (just like Zoro). This is how he prepares to unshield his Kikoku so he can be ready to attack, if neccessary, but he unshields his sword only when he feels malignant intent. A good swordsman is always on alert, after all!
And he does the exactly same thing when he looks at the commotion around Luffy and Nekomamushi (but he's a bit more cautious here). He sees the ruckus and his first instinct isn't to question Luffy or scold him for causing trouble. Nah, none of that. His very first reaction is to take his weapon and prepare to fight, because if Luffy is in danger, it's his duty to help! Ain't that freaking sweet? :D and all of that shown without any words needed, heh.
"I came to give you an introduction", he says while his eyes aren't even visible, so we know he's telling us bullshit :D (also notice, the sword is back on his shoulder, because Luffy's cheerful greeting put his mind at ease that he doesn't have to attack anyone and that everything is alright!)
Heart Pirates look like they lowkey rehearsed that introduction pose. They remind me of heroes from some Power Rangers show. I wonder if that's how wacky Sora Warrior of the Sea comic is :D because we can expect that if Law is a fan, all of his North Blue crew is as well. They look so goofy and cheerful in comparison to his stoic, cool and broody energy.
Luffy's like "yo!!", because he actually met them already, this is his second time when he sees them and had some interaction with them at Zou, so it's not like he woud need introduction, lol (sneaky Luffy is a mood, I swear). But why would Luffy care if he got a proper introduction or not anyway? After all he didn't do one for Law either! In fact I don't think Luffy ever did any introductions before.
And it's true ever since the beginning of the manga. Nami didn't get introduced to Zoro, Zoro didn't get introduced to Nami (he had to ask her himself who she is!). The best they can get is "this is going to be our crewmate/navigator", no names included. Lol. That also explains why Zoro is so used to Luffy's crap and in Punk Hazard he just stays around Law and doesn't question it, until the guy goes towards Sunny, lol. Just see it for yourself below:
And all of this happened despite Law asking Luffy to "let the rest of his crew know". Usually Luffy not making any introductions slips our minds, because whenever new crewmate appears they're all together so it's not even an issue. But sometimes, we get reminded Luffy didn't really learn manners and this is one of those examples. Law remembers the offense though.
Especially after Luffy told him he would do that. But he never did. LOL.
Just look at those frames right next to each other. Luffy tells them to "get along" (nakayoku), and Law, after refusing to introduce his Hearts crew to Luffy, says the same line but with negation "You don't have to get along". That's his revenge, right there. Luffy didn't introduce his crew to him, so Law is not gonna introduce his Hearts to him either. Ba dum tss.
Luffy is completely unaffected by it, because it's Luffy. The ones who are actually affected are Hearts and they boo their captain for it. They call him out for his bullshit behaviour, which makes me think that 1. they're allowed to complain whenever they feel like (around timeskip they also complained to Law that they want to go already to the New World). 2. Law usually DOES give introductions, because they're completely dumbfounded by this situation.
You all still need more proof this was Law's revenge? :D And if you believe this now, I need to remind you that my deduction about Law's nicknames for Strawhats all the way back in part 4 of this analysis series is probably true as well: he did not recognize Franky, Usopp and Brook, because the last time he checked on Strawhats was around Sabaody and when they returned after timeskip he was already stuck in Punk Hazard, not able to read the newest info on them.
Now let's take a look at this scene, in which Law scolds Luffy for "letting" Sanji go with Big Mom. On the surface level, nothing unusual, right? After all it's just yet another scene in which Law is worried and scolding Luffy. Except that Law never did that before when it comes to Luffy's own crew. Law knows this is an alliance, Luffy is the captain of his crew, he's the one responsible for them, not Law. In Punk Hazard Law made sure to always leave things up to Luffy when it concerned his crew, always doing the "relay the message to your crew" attempt and never telling them anything directly.
But here, in Zou, Law is openly scolding Luffy *in front of his own crew* about the situation with Sanji, a Strawhat. Honestly, it seems like he's stepping here completely out of line. It's almost like Law is part of Strawhats and has the right to be angry at the situation, not just voice his concern as an ally. This is the moment that Law starts seriously treating Strawhats like they are his second crew, imo. There's no artificial distance anymore, no "I'm just allied with them, I have to know my place" frame of mind. Whatever concerns Strawhats is clearly Law's problem as well now. It kinda started already in Dressrosa, when Law told half of the crew to just sail off to Zou, but then the situation was different, they were in danger, it could be seen as emergency situation. Zou though? No excuses here, Mr Trafalgar Law. Are you sure this is just an alliance to you?
Law finally voices his real thoughts here, because he doesn't want Zou to suffer even more than it did already (it is homeland of his friend Bepo after all). And he's throwing back the same argument Luffy threw at him in Dressrosa! Luffy looks like he's actually at a loss here and no wonder, because what can they do? Let's look at things from Luffy's perspective. His crewmate is stuck with Big Mom, they have to go to Kaido but can't yet, and they also can't stay here at Zou because they're putting minks at risk. Their options are very limited and situation is very complicated, Law made sure Luffy understands it. But their talk is interrupted by the minks so we will never know in which direction Law actually wanted to take it (we can tell from Luffy's face that Luffy is not gonna offer any actual feedback here). Or do we have a hunch about that actually?
Let's look at the title of the chapter, with Vivi on the cover (we all know she actually wanted to tell Luffy to "take her with him", but she had responsibilities to the country she also deeply loved, so she's also relevant for this chapter's title!), Luffy asks Pekoms to take him with him... and curiously enough Law shouts at Luffy, making the exactly same face expression. Maybe that's the direction he actually wanted the talk to go? It would fit his personality ngl, that he wouldn't want to leave Luffy to go alone to another Emperor's territory, without any decent plan. Especially because we know how much he worries for him all the time.
Feasting, Strawhats and Hearts bonding happily together. Even Pandaman joined in! Not Law though lol.
Ninja time :D Strawhats really push the agenda that there's no shame in loving ninjas and other cool stuff. They have so many requests too! That must have influenced Law that it's alright to voice his own request as well (but he waits with it, hoping maybe someone else can voice it first, so he doesn't have to, haha). He's murmuring it and it fits him so well, because he's not one to admit too openly how much he wants to actually see it, which makes this scene all the more special. Strawhats, and especially Luffy, really have a good influence on him. Even Zoro joins in, right after Law, probably to show support like a good bro he is.
And Raizou starts his show from Law's request! What a great guy Raizou is <3 Law's impressed face is so funny, especially in comparison to Luffy's and Usopp's, haha.
Law is so surprised at being asked for the help as well. His eyes are like "what? why me as well?". As much as Law likes to be appreciated and recognized as the captain of his own crew, he also doesn't really expect the extra attention he sometimes is getting. Unlike Luffy who is more or less used to it already.
Luffy, surprisingly enough, proposes Momo an alliance. They're not beating up Kaido instead of samurai, they're cooperating together. What's important here to note is that Luffy did that because Momo was begging him, like he's inferior to Luffy, almost like a servant. Luffy stops him, wants him to raise his head and instead join hands. He even makes sure to talk to Momo on the same eye level when he proposes the alliance, because people in alliance are equal. But where did Luffy learn that from?
Perhaps Law, who is always trying to speak to Luffy on same eye level, especially (but not only) when it's about important stuff. There's at least one scene like that in every arc. In Punk Hazard when they're captured Luffy is half-lying on the floor in a stupid position. Law is lying in exactly same way instead of trying to present himself to look cool, like he usually does. Why? Because if he sat up he wouldn't be on same eye level as Luffy. In Dressrosa, Luffy even tries to speak to Law who is lying down on Moocy on same eye level as well, by leaning down as much as he can (which is sweet of him, but not exactly working out in these circumenstances <3). On Zou Law comes closer and talks about stuff with Luffy on the stairs, because it's the easiest way to casually stand on eye level if he just stays one step below. And in Wano, Law also remembers about eye level. He even leans down to speak to Luffy. It doesn't matter that they're quarreling, eye level is a sacred rule, no disrespectfully placing yourself above your Luffy ally is ever allowed!
That's why when Luffy says this, I think Law kinda expects him to finish with different word. "Don't ever bow your heads, don't get down on the ground, because an alliance means we're equal!" is what Law would want to hear, seeing how he acts around Luffy. But he gets a "means we're friends" instead which throws him off so much he can't be quiet about it. Still, he doesn't scold Luffy for this and accepts that if it means friendship then it's friendship, and he does become friends with Kinemon as the result. Even if Luffy got it wrong, Law is gonna follow through with it. After all, he chose this fate for himself when he first proposed Luffy an alliance. If Luffy thinks it's about friendship, so be it friendship. In Law's novel we can see that Law doesn't really have a problem making friends, especially with people he saved before.
But did Luffy actually get it wrong? I feel like he played Law a little here, because Luffy clearly understands what equality is. He pushed Law's boundaries a little bit further to open him up to people. Alliances are nice, but friendships are nicer. And Luffy wants Law to make some new friends instead of keeping himself always at a distance. But since this is Luffy we're talking about, it might also be as simple as him thinking friendship means equality, and actually: he's not wrong about that part, definitely.
And I love how Law grumpily asks Luffy why the latter didn't ask about his own opinion. Luffy is like "But I knew already that you would say yes. Am I wrong about that?", and of course he's not, but he should have still asked anyway instead of deciding for both of them, even if he knows Law well enough already to assume his stance on all of this. It's not just about having faith in another person's beliefs, but it's also important to make sure they're on the same page already. What if Law had some important doubts to voice before agreeing? Luffy couldn't have guessed that.
It's actually like that all the time in their alliance. Law only protests or complains when he wants Luffy to notice some stuff, even if it seems REALLY nitpicky overall. He never does that when things get done (no matter in which way as long as the end goal is met), or when he already agreed to stuff (even if he doesn't like the consequences it led to). There's really just two scenarios in which he minds: it's when Luffy misses the mark about something important or when Law is worried like hell.
Do you think he acts angry here because Luffy already knows perfectly well what Law's own answer will be? Or is he annoyed by Luffy's confidence in Law's answer without even having to ask him first? Or maybe salty that he can't deny? I wonder if he realizes how much Luffy is actually paying attention to him.
And a new friendship alliance is completed :D Law even joins in for "hand bumping" part, because Luffy earlier declared "joining hands" is an important part of making an alliance. They never joined hands in Punk Hazard, but here Law actually listens to Luffy and follows through (despite his own touch-related trauma!).
After they leave the whale, Law seems to be deep in thought. Maybe he's returning back to the talk they had about Sanji's situation and deciding which would be the best course of action now for Law himself to take. Should he go with Luffy? Or would it be better to move on to Wano and just have faith that Luffy can push through without him?
Seems he reached his decision. Faith in Luffy, it is.
Look here. Before the whole earth shaking incident happened Law is far away (and out of frame), but the very moment situation gets unpredictable and dangerous, he positions himself close to Luffy, just so he can protect him if needed. He's also the only one capable of keeping his balance, Mr Steady Two Legs No Matter What Is Happening. Of course in this situation, when no one else can even stand anymore, he knows he's needed more than ever in case something even worse could happen.
Law doesn't say anything, but he is there when Luffy's group is leaving. He also clenches his fist, probably trying to stay strong in his resolve and decision (to go to Wano instead of with Luffy), but you can guess already how Trafalgar Law operates: he's most likely worried af under that stoic resting bitch face. Luffy is unusually cheerful on their parting. It's almost like the callback to their reunion at Punk Hazard, when he flashes Law the most beaming smile we ever saw Luffy do. And here it's the same. I bet you anything the reason is the same in both cases: he wants a certain someone to stop worrying over him so much and he does that by smiling the brightest he can, to show that things will be alright.
Because let's face it, samurais won't be worried about Luffy here (why would they? Kinemon truly believes Luffy to be so very strong!), neither would be the Strawhats crew (they believe in their captain and instead tell Luffy not to worry about them!). But Law? He would worry no matter what, it's just the way he is. That smile from Luffy is so bright mostly for Law.
And then Luffy yeets them off the elephant, and I'm sure it does not help Trafalgar Law to feel less worried, haha. Luffy's idea here is to show Law that he's not gonna waste time and will take the shortest possible route, so they can reunite as fast as they can. It's the same mindset he had in Dressrosa: jumping off the cliff to save them time. And indeed Law probably had a flashback to that in this moment, but he does not hold such fond memory of it like Luffy does, lol. He's like "that idiot is doing it again!".
Suffer Law suffer, because you will never stop worrying about this little dumbass you care about so very much!

can u explain why u dislike lucerys so much?
because atleast from my pov he was a 7year old child who thought his brother was going to die and retaliated against someone older and stronger than him with a weapon he didnât even bring
also the bullying he was following his older brother and only companion as well as his much older uncle, an authority figure.
yes he should have apologised, but when should he have? when he was being treated by the maesters for his broken nose? when aemonds mother said to have his eye cut out? when he returned half a decade later and his uncleâs hatred was already there AND his own dislike likely pushed by his family?
lucerys definitely shouldâve made amends but there are a lot of factors in it so i donât rlly see the dislike? idk i just wanna have it explained, no hate just curious (:
Just going to preemptively say that I understand this isnât hate, so anon, please know that if I have any sort of aggravated tone in this answer itâs not against you. Iâm just very passionate about this topic lol
Also this is a crazy long post. Sorry yâall.
ââŚhe was a 7 year old child who thought his brother was going to die and retaliated against someone older and stronger than him with a weapon he didnât even bringâ
When it comes to the fight, Iâm mad at all four children who ganged up on an innocent kid and started beating him mercilessly. People love to focus on the fact that Aemond might have done something with that rock, but they completely erase the context, which is that he was tackled to the ground and being punched by four people.
The real context is that Aemond was on defense in that fight. He didnât seek anyone out. He didnât start the argument. He didnât throw the first blow. All Aemond did was fight back to protect himself and grabbed a makeshift weapon to ensure he doesnât get beaten by four people at once. He was in survival mode and doing anything to keep himself protected.
When it comes down to Lucerys in that fight. He had no business running in and joining in the group beating of another child. It wasnât his fight. I understand heâs a child, but most kids understand that beating up someone is a bad thing to do. Even at 7. I knew not to punch people at 7, and I can guarantee most others did too. Age can excuse a lot of things but mercilessly beating someone who is on the ground being beaten by three others? I donât think so.
But letâs look at why Luc cuts his eye out. From your perspective itâs to âsave his brotherâs lifeâ. But is that really the case? Letâs really take a look. During the fight, Aemond pushes all four kids off him while he is being beaten on the ground. Once gaining the upper hand, he grabs Luc and holds a rock over his head, andâŚtalks. He threatens to kill them and calls them bastards, but he doesnât actually do anything. In fact, when Luc says his âfatherâ is alive and Aemond realizes Luc doesnât know heâs a Strong, he lowers the rock. At that point Aemond is no longer a threat. His weapon is down, and heâs speaking relatively calmly. Itâs only after Aemond calls Jace âLord Strongâ that the knife is drawn. The knife isnât drawn for self-defense or to save Luc. Itâs pulled for the fact that Aemond called the boys bastards.
From there Jace keeps attacking him with a knife. Aemond gets the better of him in the fight once again, and Jace is on the ground. Hereâs where the âsaving his lifeâ comes in. Aemond stands over Jace with the rock in his hand raised high andâŚ.does nothing. Again. I counted, and Aemond stands there still for about 10 seconds doing absolutely nothing. He breathes deeply. He looks at Baela and Rhaena who look back in fear. But he does nothing. In those ten seconds Luc scrambles to grab the knife, exchanges a look with Jace, and then Jace throws sand in Aemondâs eyes and Luc leaps at him and slashes his eye out.
Now, personally, watching that scene I really didnât get the feeling Aemond would do anything. Every time he gets the upper hand and will supposedly kill one of the kids with a rock, he stops. He lingers. He doesnât deliver the blow. By the time Luc gets the knife Aemond has been still and not hit Jace at all for quite a bit of time. He waits long enough for Luc to get the knife and for both boys to silently agree on a tactic to hurt him.
This also begs the question. If Jace had enough time and space to grab sand in his fist and throw it at Aemond to temporarily blind him and get away, why the fuck didnât he do that before?! We see that Aemond yells and is disoriented by the sand in his eyes. Jace couldâve easily thrown it and kicked aemond and gotten away and they couldâve ended the fight by running away. But instead he waited until his brother had a knife and they could stab him. These boys werenât doing this in self-defense. It was a coordinated attack with the intention to stab Aemond with a knife. They wanted to stab him. We saw that with Jace pulling it out first.
That whole fight is not Jace and Luc fighting to survive. Itâs Aemond fighting to survive. Itâs not Luc jumping to save his brother. Itâs Jace wanting to stab someone for calling him a bastard (he is), and both boys working together to hurt him. I genuinely believe that the long pauses Aemond took are proof enough that he had no intention of hurting actually killing them. I think it was more of an act of intimidation to show they should leave him alone. So I hold all four kids responsible for what happened to Aemond, but most especially Jace and Luc because while the girls stopped beating Aemond and left after he pushed them off. Jace and Luc kept going because they got angry at the title they were rightfully called, and teamed up to deal a blow that resulted in permanent damage and blinding one eye.
âalso the bullying he was following his older brother and only companion as well as his much older uncle, an authority figureâ
As I said earlier. I understand seven year olds are dumb as heck, and they donât always know what is an is not ok. However. Just as I would think most seven year olds know beating someone is bad, most seven year olds know bullying is bad. Hurting peopleâs feelings isnât ok. At seven, I knew bullying wasnât ok. All the boys knew what they were doing was insulting and mean. Thatâs why they did it. They wanted to be hurtful to Aemond. Yes, Luc was following Aegon and Jace, but that doesnât absolve the fact that he fully knew what they were doing was mean and found it funny like the others.
yes he should have apologised, but when should he have? when he was being treated by the maesters for his broken nose? when aemonds mother said to have his eye cut out? when he returned half a decade later and his uncleâs hatred was already there AND his own dislike likely pushed by his family?
We can agree he should have apologized, anon. But you seem to be under the impression of how Luc simply couldnât apologize because of everyone else or the circumstances. You seem to be incorrectly putting the blame on Alicent and Aemond for why he didnât apologize. Even thought Aemond is the victim.
But letâs see, when should Luc have apologized? âWhen he was being treated by the maesters for his broken noseâ? Sure! Aemond had to answer interrogations by his father and calmed his mother down while having his eye socket sewed shut. Iâm sure Luc couldâve apologized then. A broken nose is not nearly as awful and having an eye gouged out, and he seemed pretty ok at that point so yeah. He couldâve spoken up and said he was sorry.
âWhen Aemondâs mother said to have his eye cut outâ? Iâm sorry but this reeks of Alicent anti. There was plenty of time before and after Alicent had a literal mental breakdown for Luc to apologize. Why even blame or bring up Alicent? She has nothing to do with this. Lucâs responsibility to apologize is not dependent on anyone else. Least of all the woman in the room who is the only person who cares that Aemond is hurt.
âwhen he returned half a decade later and his uncleâs hatred was already there AND his own dislike likely pushed by his familyâ? Absolutely. I assume youâre talking about the dinner scene, and yes, Luc absolutely could have and should have apologized. Yes, Aemondâs anger was pretty much set because it had been a decade of no apology for literally being maimed. But a late apology is better than no apology. During that dinner, Alicent and Rhaenyra, two people who had two decades worth of resentment between them, were heartfelt and kind to one another. Luc couldâve easily toasted to Aemond. He couldâve lifted his glass and said âTo my uncle. Long ago I did horrible things to him, and Iâve carried the burden of resentment and guilt all these years. I am truly sorry for the pain Iâve caused, and I hope that my heartfelt apology can be a new beginning for usâ or something else sappy like that. Team black may or may not have solidified resentment in Luc against Aemond (about what I wouldnât know because Aemond didnât actually do anything wrong). But that doesnât take away from the fact he shouldâve apologized.
You seem to be pushing the idea that because Luc grew resentment because of his family against Aemond, he couldnât apologize. But he very much could. He just didnât want to. Because he didnât care. He didnât think he was wrong and didnât feel he had to apologize.
The simple truth of the matter is that Luc didnât apologize because he doesnât feel remorse. Itâs not because he was too injured to apologize at first. Or because Alicent was mean for five minutes. Or because his family solidified resentment. He didnât apologize because he isnât sorry. And that is best exemplified by the dinner scene. Like I said earlier he couldâve apologized. But instead, what did Luc do? He saw a pig and began to laugh at the cruel prank and bullying he did against Aemond. He still relished in the mean things he did as a child. Thereâs no remorse there, only smugness and sick enjoyment in his past cruelties. That is why I hate Lucerys so much. The burden of responsibility to apologize was on Luc, and there is no excuse for him not apologizing. He just wasnât sorry, and thatâs not on anyone but Luc for beingâŚjust not a good person.
TLDR: Luc has had a long pattern of being cruel and mean and never felt an ounce of guilt. You are right that thereâs many factors, anon. But they donât take away from the basic facts. Luc intentionally hurt Aemondâs feelings and found joy in it, Luc intentionally maimed Aemond with Jace (instead of opting for a less violent conclusion), and Luc never apologized and never felt remorse for his cruelty instead opting to continue to take pleasure in his negative acts.

I finally finished my Utena re-watch yesterday, binging the last three episodes and Adolescence in one evening, and I am Having Thoughts. Mostly about the story from Akio's perspective, surprisingly.
I don't know if I've ever read anyone's exploration of the story from his pov, so I'm going to brain-vomit about it.
From his pov, he's the one who's trapped. The Rose Bride sealed Dios away from the world, whether for his own good or to keep her brother to herself, or both. The princely part of him, Dios, is trapped, leaving only the human part of him, Akio, out in the world, trying to regain what he's lost and cope without what he sees as his 'real' power. 'The power to revolutionise the world' is, for him, the regaining of his heroic princely aspect that made him something close to a god among mortals, a natural leader, the greatest warrior.
So what is he left with? What does a regular human man have with which to find his place in the world? What is his role, if not a prince? Is he a ladies' man? An intellectual? A fighter? A logical realist who denies the 'miracles' the prince could perform to keep people safe?
It's clear from the Black Rose arc, and from the final scenes, that Akio has repeated the duels in some form many times, assuming that he needs the right sword to open the Rose Gate and access his old power. He holds this 'might makes right' belief that physical strength or a warrior's weapon is the key to power. When Utena, just a girl, succeeds as the winner of the duels, at first he tries to persuade her to stand down, because how could a girl's sword possibly be strong enough to open the Gate? I wondered, during this watch, if this cycle was the first time that any girls had taken part in the duels, and whether that was by design or accidental. In the Black Rose arc, it's 100 boys who are drawn in to find the power or the eternal something. In this latest cycle, it's the student council, a power structure that represents intellectual masculinity: Juri, as a lesbian in a uniform closer to her male counterparts than to the other female students, might possibly have been the first girl to join the duels, an unintentional outcome perhaps inspired by Mikage, who was more easily tempted by a boy than by that boy's older sister. She still represented an aspect of masculinity in her own way, as the logical realist who denies miracles. Likewise, Nanami joins the duels initially to stand in for her brother, and leaves when she is confronted by how damaging the system is to the very people it's supposed to protect.
I wondered if perhaps Utena was never meant to join the duels. If Dios had meant to find Touga and Saionji on that particular day, and stumbled on Utena because they did. If Utena joining and winning the duels was never part of Akio's plan, and that's why he, and all the others, are so perplexed by her and never figure out how to get the better of her. Akio tries to force her into the role of 'Girl' because all he knows is playing the role of 'Man', and what else is a man supposed to do with a girl besides protect her or seduce her?
Utena succeeds because, for all her talk about wanting to be a prince to rescue girls, she gives up that roleplay and acts of of genuine love and compassion. She succeeds in besting the Rose Bride's curse because she doesn't approach it like a man, trying to seduce, fight, or logic her way through, but by loving Anthy and by having the compassion to want to end her pain.
Utena is still very much about smashing the patriarchy (literally in the case of Adolescence), but in its own way it also artfully deconstructs the ways in which patriarchy hurts men too, by limiting the roles available to them. Utena offers an alternative to the masculine roles of warrior, lover, intellectual and cynic, as well as to the feminine role of princess. The student council recognise it in the end, but Akio never does, because he is so utterly stuck in his role. That's why Anthy gets to leave at the end, telling him he's the one that's trapped, because Utena showed her that she, and we, can choose our own roles.

what is it about that season one shoulder pat you love so much??
i have a bit of a fascination with what i call character thesis moments. theyâre⌠these sort of pivotal, revealing scenes or even just (as in this case) a gesture that makes me fall head-over-heels for a character. and also understand them.
with ava, it was the beach run scene. for lilith, the grey hoodie scene where she asks ava âcan you forgive me?â for mary it was the first scene, cradling shannonâs head and shutting her eyes and the love in every inch of every gesture. (thatâs the first sign i think that warrior nun is a story about love, and survival, and in not surviving but loving anyway).
now, iâll admit that i adored beatrice from âi thought sheâd be a handfulâ and âfaith is my businessâ but frankly⌠neither of those scenes show us who she is. i think the closest we get to HER is at the bus stop, where you watch her choose her friends over her duty, choose love over sacrifice (for the first, but not the last time).
and then⌠god, that shoulder slap. i canât explain how it made me feel.
up until that point, beatrice is such a whirlwind of a character. sheâs lethal, she faces down a gun with frightening disregard for her own life. she drops a tear onto shannonâs cheek as she gasps out a very rehearsed goodbye. she catches ava when she slips out of that wall, she cries over an old journal and in all that time sheâs fighting so hard to remain unseen.
and then, in one gesture, she reveals who she is. if you look closely, you see how fiercely beatrice fights to hold herself, but especially her hands, in check. they are either weapons or theyâre things she lets out with the greatest care. they are caring but also tentative, like moths desperately trying not to touch the flame.
if you look carefully you also see that beatrice canât help but touch ava. she tries and tries, but then theyâre in the vatican and sheâs suddenly this young, smiling creature trading puns, rushing through a cloud of dust to pry ava from the wreckage of her faith, from the arms of an angel. i just think, when i saw that shoulder slap i realised how much there was to beatrice.
sheâs this⌠ball of contradictions. sheâs a nun, she came up with Cruella de Jesus. sheâs faithful, sheâs queer, sheâs resigned to the death of everyone she loves. sheâs a weapon, and yet⌠you look at her doing that slightly goofy shoulder slap and it betrays a sense of âi want to touch you and i donât know what to do about it.â and in that you realise that sheâs everything you thought and sheâs also⌠mischievous? slightly boyish? a fool who is already more than half in love.
i remember feeling so fond of her, so suddenly, because out of the clear blue you realise that sheâs drawn to this, to this girl who told her not to hate what she is, not to hate what she craves which is touch⌠a certain something she doesnât dare to name, but still she reaches out and THAT is beatrice to me.
sheâs a pair of empty hands, a bottle of lightning, and for all her confidence, for all that she is undeniably so cool and calm under pressure, so absolutely lethal; sheâs also young, and she doesnât know what to do about what she feels. it terrifies her, fascinates her, makes her hands move almost of their own accord.
there is ava, who is the point around which she is supposed to rally. halobearer, holy, doomed. that little pat in the shoulder⌠when i take it from avaâs perspective iâm in awe, because they donât quite understand each other yet. itâs a candleflame to the incandescence of their kiss but itâs the first time bea reaches out not to catch her, or capture her, or carry her, but simply to touch.
itâs a very blunt and beautiful reassurance and thatâs what they are to each other; theyâre comfort, safety, acceptance. and that throwaway moment to me is the thesis of beaâs character arc. itâs the choosing to touch, to reach out, to hold onto what she loves.
and for ava itâs sacred too. how many times in her life do you imagine sheâs been touched the way beatrice touches her? the way she balances avaâs jaw in her hands when she falls from the wall, smiling at her like sheâs a miracle. beatrice who is the voice in the dark and the cold, who tears down a wall to reach her because she promised and she kept it. touch is everything to ava, and i think thereâs just something so special about that moment; beatrice just saying, wordlessly, âyouâre good, youâre here, iâve got your back.â itâs not condescending itâs a gesture that i think demonstrates to ava that sheâs not alone anymore, and it kindles the hope that she never will be again.
#warrior nun#avatrice#sister beatrice#ava silva#itâs just! special and silly and important to me iâm sorry i know this is mostly incoherent#anon

Wolverine: Weapon X (1991)
Wolverine: Weapon X is a MUST read if you want to get the full scope of Wolverine. This story details more than any other comic, exactly what kind of bullshit Logan was subjected to while being used for the Weapon X program.
The dehumanization of Logan during this comic is gut-wrenching for me, so i need to jabber about it. My favorite bit and some ramblin below.
Logan can hear and smell the wolves in the cage. The fuckers in lab coats know that he is receiving this stimuli, but have no idea why Logan isnt reacting, there isnt a single impulse to run or fight the wolves.
To Logan, the sounds and smell of wolves isnt a threat. Even when they knock him down, even when they bite.
He doesn't react until they are actually tearing him apart. Once the pain is too much, he fights back, and he roars.
"I dont think that's bloodlust, professor... I think it's pain."
"I'm enjoying this far too much."
The doctor claims Logan's roar is "relish" of the carnage, but really, he's just projecting. He is very fascinated by controlling this kind of power, and this is what he chose to do with it. He wants to portay this cruelty as some animalistic trait of Logan's, when really none of this horror would ever happen if he wasn't the one pulling the strings.
In Logan's mind, those animals were not disposable. These people rationalize their cruelty toward Logan by claiming he is not human he is an animal, when to him, humanity is not a prerequisite for respect or kindness. What caused this barbaric display was the very men sitting there watching it. When Wolverine was free, there was a time wolves were his family, his comfort.
So no, it's not "odd" that he wasn't afraid of those wolves. And no, it isn't pleasure in that roar. It's not just pain, either. It's grief.
This is how a fool can posess someone, violate their mind and body, control them, and still know less than he would if he just had a fucking chat with them. But the doctor doesn't want to learn anything from these experiments. He just wants to control Wolverine. Like a toddler wanting to drive a car, he doesn't even want to go anywhere he just wants to use the steering wheel.
Throughout Wolverine's life after this, the same thing will happen to him over and over again. Governments, lovers, friends, all of them will use him, and in most instances with the last two, he will allow it. He will give them the opportunity to use him, and in exchange, he gets a place by their side for as long as they'll allow him to have it. Even when they dont necessarily make him happy, because happiness isn't really what he's after. Maybe he wants to be needed, part of a unit, indispensable. That isn't enough in the long term, either, though. If his constant introspective inner monologues paired with his sudden outbursts of asserting who he is are anything to go by, being understood is also something very important to him.
It's a tough ask to understand someone who has been alive for nearly 200 years and been to hell and back, even tougher when at least half that life has been dedicated to suffocating the parts of himself that humanity would look down upon. For some time Logan strives for ideals like honor to keep himself on the track of being a man first and foremost, he tries to fight for what's right and control the wilder parts of his personality to prove to himself he isnt an animal. With time, he starts to accept those things as well, though. Being called an "animal" happens to him regularly regardless of what he does, and he is very capable of taking it on the chin without holding a grudge despite what he's been subjected to due to that perspective. Maybe it's because deep down he knows that being the animal isn't the problem. It's being in the wrong cage.
Anyway, ouch, movin on. Read Weapon X it's good.

2.5 Xianzhou continuance thoughts [part 2]
**SPOILER warning** for March first boarding the Skysplitter, Feixiao coming to Yukongâs aide, a healer in need of a medic and the fight against Hoolay. As always, refrain from reading further if you havenât reached the first boss battle or finished the entirety of the 2.5 story because Iâll probably mention some things that happen later on.
Amidst the serious wolf hunt going on, I appreciate the silly conversations the game threw our way to ease the tension once we switched back to Marchâs perspective. Now that we know Hoolay is capable of turning foxians into borisin with just his fangs, itâs good for our Trailblazing companion to be a bit suspicious of everyone at the event, but thankfully this one soldier is just an awkward man doing his job.
We continue to be such a bad influence on our friends, even when weâre not around. I canât even be mad that the game insults our mental health because this whole scene is just too funny. And most likely true because the Trailblazer is far from normal.
The whole situation with Hoolayâs plague-mark spreading fear and the danger it presents alongside these lines of Feixiaoâs just reminds me of that one line from Serval during the Belobog story when we first escape the Underworld and request her help: âI know Cocoliaâs style - get everyone into a frenzy first.â (yes of course I remember random Serval quotes.)
Wise words from our resolute General. She would make a good mentor, but I believe it was said (no clue on when or by who exactly), that she canât really take on an apprentice because of her busy schedule and/or shortened lifespan due to her moon rage. Something like that. Feel free to correct me if Iâm wrong but I know there was a reason she doesnât take apprentices somewhere.
Finally getting to the borisin attack scene that they teased us with during the 2.5 trailer and Iâm truly impressed by how Feixiao manages to arrive at Starskiff Haven from Exalting Sanctum so quickly.
Granted, the speed at which she arrives is mostly due to her riding on top of a starskiff that she.. somehow acquired from who knows where, but the cutscenes switch up so fast from Feixiao reassuring Yukong sheâs on her way one moment to then seeing her flying into the fray the next. I found it incredible.
It was also amusing to see Feixiao just ram the starskiff into an unfortunate borisin and crash land the whole thing while she remains perfectly unharmed.
Eeehehe, I just love that kind of pose where people hold their weapon over their shoulder like that. Not to mention that confident smirk of hers too.. aaahh sheâs so cool~ And Yukong too. I still adore her. Shame we didnât get to see her fight more than what the 2.5 trailer already showed us but hey, Iâll take what we can get. Better than nothing.
With the way you move, sweetie, everything is swift.
My assumption about Feixiao using Yukongâs bow from the patch trailer turned out to be correct. From wielding swords, gun blades, battle axe and bows, she can do it all folks! We love a multi-talented queen.
So that giant flash of light in the sky turned out to be Feixiaoâs arrow.. good lord. At least she gave everyone a heads up about it so we could try to move out of range, but with how quick she acts, it couldnât have be that much time. Thankfully Moze is kind enough to offer us some assistance.
Maâam.. please calm down with the amazing cutscenes. Youâre too much for my heart to handle. The powerful attack did seem to hurt her a bit though in the end, or it was her moon rage acting up.
Now thereâs a question Iâd like the answer to. How did people react to her bloodline? Or do they really not know about it and just see her as a foxian? Whenever I read about the Yaoqing, I see that moon rage is kinda common among foxians of that ship because of their close ties with the borisin, so perhaps other ships really donât mind Feixiaoâs backstory. After all her military accomplishments, I wouldnât either, honestly.
Looks like we wonât be getting a definite answer either as she chooses to just taunt him instead. Sheâs perfect. I love her. Iâd gladly beg for her.
Jumping back to the Skysplitter where March & Yunli meet up with Yanqing, the girls are rightfully suspicious of his sudden arrival and wonder if heâs a disguised borisin. Itâs a fair assumption since they last heard he was supposed to be helping Feixiao, but he reasons with swift logic that ultimately makes fun of his own height and the truth surrounding that fact is hilarious.
For a whole side mission taking place back on the Luofu, thereâs not as much Jing Yuan as I originally thought there would be. At least heâs working behind the scenes though, setting up a well thought of trap to lead Hoolay into by setting up a fake Wardance ceremony to draw him out into the ring.
The fight with the warhead himself was fine. I wish I remembered more of it but I didnât really have any trouble with him.
The fight probably wouldâve been more memorable if they didnât cut to a flashback of a seriously injured Jiaoqiu right in the middle of it! AAHH! Iâm actually kinda surprised that Hoolay kept him alive for this long (and didnât completely eat him after everything either), but since there was no more use for him.. yeah, makes sense he would eventually toss our healer aside like trash and leave him to die on his own.
Oh goodie, yet another flashback to pull at my heartstrings. I wasnât expecting Feixiao to be so much younger than Jiaoqiu..? Or more like I never really thought of whoâs older/whoâs younger between them before. I just assumed they were about the same age. Hearing him lose his patience with her was a bit unexpected, but when you remember how tired of Jiaoqiu is of learning that his patients lost their lives upon returning to battle and how the previous General asked him to personally save Feixiao, his annoyance is understandable.
Before Hoolay leaves Jiaoqiu, our healer reveals he knows about the bloodwine custom where borisin kill off their prisoners and drink their blood before battle to increase their madness. Hoolay confirms this and I can only assume that he drinks said blood from the gash across our foxianâs chest. Unfortunately for the warhead, Jiaoqiu seemed to have an ace up his sleeve.. which just so happens to be poison.
During my 2.4 posts (part 2 I think), I jokingly said that âthis man could very well poison someone if he wanted to,â but sir, I didnât want it to be yourself!? And with the most lethal of poisons too?? Goddamn.. thatâs so extreme, honey. Iâm not even gonna question how or when Jiaoqiu actually drink the poison, but he definitely needed to make sure Hoolay had a taste of his blood or else his impressive last ditch effort wouldâve been all for nothing. Thankfully, his plan is a success and the sly fox skillfully uses the same advice he previously told Mok Tok & Hoolay about with feeding a child with picky eating habits: you hide the thing you want them to eat among something else. Green peppers chopped up into meatballs. Deadly poison mixed in foxian blood.
Nooo no no, stop this self loathing at once! Your life is nothing close to insignificant! Aahh.. heâs making me so upset. Half the reason being heâs seemingly dying, the other half is because of Markâs brilliant voice acting. He was so dang good throughout this entire scene, from sounding broken and losing hope, to the weak chuckles when he finds the tiniest bit of amusement about his poison plan taking effect. Actually, his performance was wonderful throughout the entire story so far.
What isnât wonderful however.. is how Hoyo baited all of us into thinking that Jingliu was going to return! All those mentions of her name and the cameo of her during the 2.5 trailer.. worthless! The Jingliu from the cutscene is nothing but Hoolay being reminded of her style when Yanqing launches a serious counterattack by taking inspiration from his own experiences of battling against Jingliu during her companion mission.
Like.. yeah, good for you young man for freezing the beast so effectively, but Iâm still so twisted that our ice queen doesnât actually show up. I know it makes the most sense that she doesnât, considering she and Luocha are locked up on another Xianzhou ship, but maaann.. it wouldâve been so cool to see her again.
Despite turning into a popsicle, Hoolay still manages to strike back against Yanqing, only for a true queen to descend onto the battlefield and stop his large blade effortlessly, just as she did to both Yunli & Yanqingâs last patch with just a couple fingers.
Sigh.. what an amazing woman. And thereâs gonna be a whole lot of fangirling over her during the next post too. (probably).

The New Girl in Town Pt 5
Rafe Cameron x F! Reader
a/n: Woah, okay, so this one is a little longer. One, itâs formatted differently; it gives you more perspective of whatâs happening. Also, Iâm trying to follow Rafe's season one character arc and overall story, knowing now you guys are enjoying the series. I know where I want to go now, but if you guys donât like how long this is, let me know, and Iâll free-write it and go based on my arc for him and the characters, not on canon events. Please let me know what you think; much love and enjoy!
Summary: The hurricane has hit the Outerbanks, and with a storm thatâs torn up Kilandre, emotions seem to be on high. Rafe is still trying to recover from you walking out without saying anything to him. In contrast, you prepare to attend your first Boneyard Kegger. What happens when everything goes wrong? Who do you call when there is no one else to turn to in your town? Will anyone show up when you need them?
MDNI 18+
Warnings: Storms, grief, death, insinuation of sexual themes, violence, weapons, swearing, drug use, and drug abuse, as well as some slight talks of addiction.
After receiving a text, Rafe sits up thinking about yesterday, and his eyes widen, thinking only of the generators now. He scrambles to text a few of his Kook friends to see if anyone can help a man out when Kelce speedily responds that heâs got him; no worries and was planning on dropping by with Topper anyway for Sarah, but theyâll come to help him first.
Half an hour later, Topper and Kelce are helping Rafe quickly set up a generator, but little does he know you are just around the corner because the day before, Scooter had helped the Cameron family storm prep for their boat. Still, before going to Tannyhill, Scooter had helped Charlie prep The Hut since it was your dad's first big hurricane.
Ward was cleaning up fallen tree branches when he heard his name called out, âHello, Mr.Cameron.â he looked up to see a girl he didnât know with a worrisome look on your face and holding Lana, Scooter's wife, gently rubbing her shoulder. Ward stood to be able to see you both fully.
Ward quickly leads Lana to Sarah, and you let her know youâll wait out front to take her wherever she may need to go; she shakes her head and walks off with Ward. As you stand to wait, one of the yard workers takes his opportunity to saunter toward you and strike up a conversation.
Little to your knowledge from below, but standing on the edge of the balcony near the side of the house were Rafe and his friends looking down on you as you laughed and conversed with the boy, probably a few years older than you.
As Rafe watched you in pure bliss, seeming to enjoy the conversation between you, he felt himself brimming with annoyance when suddenly, your head quickly wiped to the front door not far from the boys standing on the balcony just below them to the side.
The three boys watch as you abandon the ongoing conversation with the yard worker boy to take the spot right at Lanaâs shoulder; this makes Rafe smirk, watching the boy's displeased face watch you.
Heedlessly to the boy, you walk with Lana back to the road, patting her back and smiling softly at her; they canât make out what exactly youâre saying, but they all equally watch as you disappear, as usual, into the horizon line, taking a glimpse of the sunlight in your wake until you randomly appear again.
The rest of the day, Rafe didnât see or hear from you, but he assumed, with how bad the storm was and all the cleanup, that you had other worries than explaining running out on him.
Technically, heâs nothing more than another boy on the new island you call home. These thoughts make him unsound and intolerable. So he glances at the sea momentarily, wondering if you are also glancing at the rolling waves.
Rafe had been doing meaningless things to fill the time; he received a few texts from friends and past hooks-ups about the kegger at the boneyard and another party not too far from Topâs House, and Rafe didnât want to go to either; he sat and thought for a while, and he then decided to grab some coke from Barry, and then heâll head out to ride his bike around and clear his head or play a round of golf at the Country Club.
By the time Rafe got ready to waste time, he had thought about maybe stopping by the boneyard; he knew if it were a kegger, there would be pogues swarming that place, and they always picked with shit they didnât want in the end. He shakes his head, knowing it is ridiculous to want to go even if you are there.
It was about midday when he went downstairs, and he heard Rose and Ward talking; he rounded the kitchen corner to them, shaking their heads. âWhat happened?â Rafe frowns, looking at his father for more information. âScooter Grubbs has been found dead. He was out during the hurricane; his boat went down, and he was washed into the marsh.â
Rafe checked his phone immediately to see if there was anything from you, and nothing, just a bunch of messages from Emma asking when they could see each other again; this made Rafe roll his eyes. He continued grabbing a drink from the fridge, stuffing it in his bag, heading out to the garage, and taking out his bike to head to the Cut.
On the other side of the island, you and your family had a considerable hoard of people at your house accepting water bottles and non-perishable foods at a table in your yard with your parents.
At the same time, you sat in the back of the house with Lana Grubbs, who youâve just returned with from the marina who just lost her husband. You sit slowly, rubbing up and down her upper back, not saying anything; slow resounds of what seems to be Sparks by Coldplay are playing in the surround sound house speakers, most likely through your mom's playlist.
You donât say anything; what do you say to her? Youâve also lost someone to those raging waves in front of you, watching with her as its tide pulls it up to shore and back out into the sea off to who knows where.
The situation you have both been through has no words to say, so you sit and listen to the music playing through the sound system, humming lightly and listening to the small crash of waves.
You think about Luca, how he never failed to be there precisely when you needed him. Without fail, if something inspired you to make something or do something new, Luca would show up with everything you needed to create what you envisioned. If you so much as thought you were bored, he was knocking at your front door asking to take you to laser tag, the movies, or on beach picnics. The day you turned fifteen, he asked you to be his Valentine.
Luca also made a tradition that year of getting you flowers on the 14th day of every month; he was always cheesy and would say, why should he only show his love one day in the year? But he did every 14th day of every month for nearly four years.
The only thing that broke you from the reminiscent thoughts of a boy youâll never get the joy of loving again is the slight creaking of the door frame; you turn to see your brother's sad, smiling face.
ďżź âHey, Kiddo, Iâve got to head to the airport. Iâm taking Dad and the car. I just wanted to check on you girls to see if youâd like to head home or maybe the place they may have Scooter and see if theyâll let you see him. Mom called your sister, so sheâs said to let her know, and sheâll meet you wherever you are.â
Lanaâs head pops up, eyes completely bloodshot, looking between you and your brother, eyes resting tenderly on you, reaching to brush a piece of your (H/C) hair out of your eyes and turning to your brother, shaking her head to your brother, âI think I need to go home for a little whileâ She stands and starts to fold the blanket you had tossed over her shoulders when you came in.
Swiftly, you grab it from her, coaxing her towards Jason, whose hand is laid open; she looks back and forth between you two. âYou two are an extraordinary pair of kids,â Jason chuckled, bringing his hand out a little further until she accepted it, and he wrapped her hand around his opposite arm to walk her out. Quietly, he told Lana, âWeâre only doing what we hope others would do for us.â
Before she walked out, you called out, âMrs. Lana!â she and Jason turned to you. You smiled sadly and said, âI hope you know youâre always welcome here for any reason, and thank you for allowing me to be there for you.â
Quickly, she walked forward to you, more tears in her eyes as she hugged you, saying, âOh sweet girl, I hope someone gives you the world one day.â then she turned back to Jason and started walking out. Jason watches you in his perephislas to see you smile sadly while looking at the sea.
He knows where your mind is again. He turns towards Lana and quickly leads her to Charlie, standing just outside by the Impala. Charlie sees the look in Jasonâs eyes as he takes her hand to help her in the car, sending his son a slight nod, and he turns on his heel and runs right back to you on the couch.
When Jason reenters the room, he sees you right where he left you. He quickly picks you up from your sitting position on the couch in a big hug, making you laugh; you go utterly limp in his arms, but hanging your arms around his neck, he sets you down.
Jason puts his hands on your shoulders, looking you straight in the eyes and giving you his this is serious look. âI love you, Kiddo, always okay. You need me. Iâll be on a plane the next day, but take the mantra and make it real (N/N); ride the wave, okay?â with that, he kisses the top of your head and runs out of the house before you can say anything, but now you sit smiling at the waves until your phone pings with a text.
Sarah đđŚ: Hey, want to come over and get ready with me? Then you can ride with Kelce?
(F/N)đşď¸âď¸: Sure, I think I remember him from when I moved in. Iâll be over in about 15. I am going to make a little to-go bag to get ready.
You run up the stairs to your door, throwing it open and digging under your bed for an old black Jansport backpack. In years past, it was used for traveling, so there were patches and pins from countless cities, airports, countries, and historic monuments.
One thing about your family is that traveling is what has made you the way you are. Your mother is a Historian; she is constantly looking for discoveries, a go-getter who never gives up, and she is strong; she can be your saving grace, but she can be your nightmare if you make her.
Then there is your sweet father, who by most people's accounts can be considered as any other clean-cut, white-collar businessman, but your dad loves people and human communication; heâs a charmer or character; heâs the type of man that you can take anywhere, and he is the life of the party. His whole life, he was told he could charm the pants off a dolphin, and heâs shown that time and time again.
Traveling has been a part of your life for as long as you can remember; with two people of your parent's personality, there was no way you could stay in one place, so at nineteen, youâve been almost everywhere. See so many things. You have met so many people. Yet youâre constantly searching for that piece that clicks in the puzzle. All across the world and in 50 states, youâre still searching for something.
Youâre broke from your thoughts when your phone pings again with another message.
Sarah đđŚ: Do you want to stay the night? Our AC has been out from the storm, and I was going to sleep on the Druthers tonight; itâs somewhat eerie at night but soothing. Let me know! :)
You quickly shove clothes in the bag for bed and tomorrow and pull your nightstand drawer open, where you graze for your travel makeup bag, brush, and wallet.
Then you run to your closet, picking out a cute bikini with some denim shorts that are so old you canât even remember where you bought them and an old Malibu beach lifeguard zip-up. You quickly pulled on your white, beat-up old school vans and laced them up.
Lastly, before you text Sarah, you walk to your dresser and look up at the picture of you on Luca's shoulder; you smile and pick up the shell necklace with the ring on it; you had taken it off during clean-up to be sure it was safe.
As you run your thumb over the ring, you whisper to it like it was him, âYou and me to the Big Dipper and back.â Then you slowly unhook the necklace, take the ring, and hang it on the same tack that the necklace was before returning the necklace to your neck, kissing your fingers, and touching them to Luca's face
You run and grab your bag, smile on your face, bag slug haphazardly over your shoulder, running out to tell your parents you're off to hang out with Sarah the rest of the day and spend the night. As you ran down the stairs, you responded back
(F/N)đşď¸âď¸: It sounds like a plan for all of it, be there in 10!
As you quickly run out to the table in your front yard, your parents are cleaning up and putting away the morning of aid they were providing; your dad turns your way when he hears your steps bounding down the front porch towards him.
You run up, placing a kiss on his cheek, saying, âHanging out with Sarah. Be back tomorrow sometime,â running off, kissing your mom on the head and scurrying towards your Jeep, throwing your bag in and backing out, driving off as quickly as you said goodbye to your parents honking twice to say goodbye once more your parents just share a smile shaking their heads continuing their clean up to return to the house.
As you drove down the messy roads of Kilandre County, you looked around at the new place you were supposed to call home. So far, the waves have been great; itâs been helping inspire some board designs to show your dad. The community service committee seems very put together and involved, which makes you feel better about being here; leaving the YMCA back home for you was super hard. Leaving all the friends you grew up with, all the places you knew like the back of your hand, yours and Lucas's corner of the sky, your spot.
When you went driving across the country to get here, you were so scared you were going to hate it, watching each state grow from ocean to dust, then to plains and green forest, and eventually an island.
While driving through the Cut, you passed quaint homes, each corner of the lawn filled with different yard decorations all across the grasses, wind chimes hanging on porches creating musicality of pitches to sound through the sticky heat, painted bottles, and clay decorations hanging from strings attached to the large tree branches swaying delicately in the afternoon breeze.
Before you knew it, you crossed the bridge to Figure 8, driving through the enormous houses that reminded you of your old summer home in Maine.
Yards, Houses, Cars, and even dogs in the yards are perfectly manicured; everything on this side looks completely uniform and like someone specifically placed them like Monopoly houses on a game board. You were pulling up to your new so-called home immediately, seeing all the wealthy families and their kids in the area swarming for a look at the new kid.
You had lived in Malibu all your life but knew what it was like being the new kid. From early on in your life, actions paired with words affected you significantly. Itâs like they latch on to your brain, and anything wrong you say or someone says to you would never escape your mind; it would play like DVD on replay, looping over until you felt you had it right, but it was always too late, it had already happened.
Being in-person for school was never really a place for you, not because you didnât like the classes but because being around that many people constantly that youâd grown up with, they know you, and they understand your stories; they look for any way to tear into you.
People didnât make it easy to forget what childhood was like for you. Honestly, girls at school were the biggest problem, starting squandering rumors that would spread and humiliate you, making it too difficult to go back every day.
Suddenly, you were at the next school, trying again. Still, the ones who didnât stick by you initially would make it their mission to break you into tiny pieces. The only part that always got you through was going home and knowing no matter what, Luca would be there; he, indeed, was the epitome of the words prince charming.
The thoughts spiraling through your head halt as you see the prominent white balconies of Tannyhill. You pull into the driveway and park to the side so you wonât block anyone in or out, and you hop out and scurry to the front door; right as you are about to knock on the enormous front door, it opens, and you almost hit the man standing in front of you.
Standing in the front door foyer is Ward Cameron smiling at you, saying, âHello, youâre from earlier; how can I help you? Howâs Lana?â you smile brightly back at the man sticking out your hand. âHello, Mr. Cameron, Iâm (F/N). Also, sheâs not great, but sheâs home.â he happily takes your outstretched hand, and before you can say anything else, Sarah sees you from the top of the stairs, calling your name and running down.
Ward steps out of the way and motions for you to come inside, and once you step into the house, you're nearly knocked right back out onto the porch because of the force of Sarah hugging you. She grabs your hand and drags you up the stairs, saying, âCome on, I have so much to tell you.â
You both run giggling up the stairs, and you turn back with your hand still in Sarahâs; the other waves back to Ward, looking at him and saying, âNice to meet you, Mr. Cameron,â and before he can even say anything youâve turned back going full speed to Sarahâs room whispering something to her that has you both throwing your heads back euphoric playful laughter erupts echoing through the halls of Tannyhill.
Ward smiles to think Sarah has found a good friend to be around who is like herâwalking off into another part of the house to go through the insurance policies, looking for things that may need to be repaired or replaced from the storm.
Usually, down the hall from where you are now, Rafe's room sits empty as he makes his way to Emmaâs house because, being the feeble man he is, all of the drugs he keeps doing and the thoughts of you overwhelm him.
Rafe feels he needs an outlet for it, and sheâs there, and sheâs salacious and unwavering, so he caved, and now he drives over to her house as you and Sarah dance around her room to âOur Songâ by Taylor Swift.
The things he misses by allowing the anger to consume him will melt this man into a puddle.
If it weren't for a shred of fate being on Rafe's side that he didnât have any condoms, and neither did Emma per her message that he stopped at Tannyhill on the way to the other side of the Country Club where she lives.
When he entered the house, he heard the girl's voices echoing through the house singing; one of them sounded like they were harmonizing with the singer on the speaker, which made Rafe frown, knowing there was no way that was Sarah she couldnât sing in harmony sheâs not horrible, but sheâs also not a singer.
He made his way to Sarahâs door, which was only one down from his, to see you holding a makeup brush in your hand like a microphone, and now, through the halfway open door, he could hear you, the one harmonizing to the words ideally like youâve done it a million times Sarahâs is laughing, singing, dancing around her bed frame. Rafe just watched as you completely acted like you were a performer and you were entertaining millions, but lucky for him, it was a personal show.
He stands, watching as you pull Sarah to her bed to stand with you, hurriedly grabbing another makeup brush and handing it to Sarah, standing back up and getting back into character, singing the words, âI got to the hallway, well on my way to my loving bed.â you spin around singing, âI almost didnât notice all the roses and the note that saidâ grabbing Sarah and making her spin not so gracefully. She falls on her butt, laughing at herself. You, on the other hand, he watches as you gracefully dance on the bed, the sheets getting wrapped around your ankles.
Nothing would have mattered at that moment because the world was yours, and he was watched on ardently, hoping to be him in there one day with you dancing the sheets off his bed and screeching music like a band of banshees.
Sarah hops down, watching, dancing, singing along as you sing your heart out on her bed. Sarah loved hanging out with you; it was like she was constantly learning something; when people are around you for some reason, you help them remember what itâs like to feel alive.
You are continually laughing with people, listening when needed, or lifting the mood. You are the epitome of the word euphoria, which is nearly the identical thought Rafe has watching you sing total volume in the last post-chorus. Rafe concentrates on how your voice flows over the notes easily; itâs tangible that youâve done all this before, and Rafe canât help but feel his heart skip a beat or two just thinking about how often you may do this.
You dance on the bed joyfully, taking advantage of the fact that Sarahâs bed doesnât sink as much as your cause of the number of times youâve done exactly what youâre doing now. The entire time you knew, Rafe stood an armâs length away in the hall, watching that only spurred you to have more fun, knowing the stoic boy you see constantly has some light underneath, and youâve made it your mission to try and get a smile from him anytime you see him.
Until the end starts to come, you mimic what the singer is saying, taking your hair down and dropping to your knees on the bed, acting like you're writing on a paper and handing it to Sarah; she accepts it, which makes you both start laughing while the next song starts to play on the speaker, and thatâs when Sarah looks up to see Rafe standing there.
âUgh- go be a creep somewhere else, Rafe, like I donât know,â she lifts her chin evilly; âoh, how about I do know, Emmaâs house? You should go there this time since I donât feel like getting sick every five minutes from all the shit. I hear over in that death trap you call a room,â she says all this as sheâs stalking to the door, you sit on the bed wide-eyed and like someone whoâs watching an episode of a reality series. Youâre waiting for the heartbreaks and the chaos.
Rafe meets Sarah at her door, and before she can close it in his face, he braces his arm, pushes the door in, and puts his foot in the door frame so she canât shut it, meeting her eyes and saying in a sinister voice, âWhat did you just say.â
Sarah looks at him with no affliction and speaks quietly to only Rafe, âYou heard me; if you want to be sicko with different girls all the time, at least do it somewhere else and not with my friends; goodbye.â She starts to push her door in, but before the door closes, he catches your eyes worried but aimed directly at him like theyâre meant for him; looking back, he sees the white of Sarahâs door and the obnoxious attitude of his sister turning up the music so loud he canât hear anything. Still, the minor tri tones of your and his sister's giggles mix with the melodies of the music.
Rafe strides to his room quickly and texts Emma that he had an emergency come up; heâll see her around. She doesnât reply, but Rafe doesnât care as he lays on his bed listening to you through the wall, knowing your enchanted presence is filling the walls of the room just next door.
Rafe listens and can faintly hear you two giggling and singing at total volume as if a concert is happening in Sarahâs room at Tannyhill. This thought makes him smile sitting there, thinking about how every time heâs seen you, you seem to be heartily enjoying music and life or human connection. Everything about you seems so worldly, and he wants every single bit. ďżźďżź
Rafe doesnât even know how long he listened to the girlish ruse happening in the other room. Until he hears the telltale tone of you and Sarah giggling, and itâs louder, and he hears her call, âWell, be back later, Dad. Love you, we are going out with Top.â
Rafe quickly ran and swung his door open, stumbling over to the railing just in time to see you and Sarah at the front door, and before he could think, he said so coldly, âWhere do you think youâre going?â You and Sarah snap your heads to him, and he instantly feels so inarticulate as he watches you and his sister narrow your eyes at him till Sarah says, âKegger, but you knew that.â she nudges you, which makes you laugh.
âWellâŚwe know you have places to be, Rafe; we wonât keep you. See you later,â you say with so much insinuation behind your words and your face, but still, the pure, gentle smile and eye creases, heâs committed to memory.
The last thing Rafe sees is his smug sister's face staring at him, shrugging, mouthing âsorry, Charlie,â adding a fake pout to throw the dig even further and slamming the front door behind her.
Rafe is nearly off the deep end now; he knew you were going to the boneyard youâd told him, but; he contemplated going; one thing is sure, the pouges always start shit, and heâs not trying to fight in front of you just yet, so Rafe did what he thought would clear his mind; he took his last bump. This only sent him into a further spiral, having him reach for his phone and revoke his text to Emma, telling her to come to Tannyhill now.
On the other hand, outside, you had run out the door before any more words were shared, running towards Kelce, who was standing in front of his Truck next to Tooper, running to him and jumping on his back, scaring the hell out of him until you start acting like the announcer of a ring fight making him laugh.
Sarah ran up, kissing Topper; you hopped into Kelce's truck, and he started it up quickly after you put on your seatbelt, pulling out before Topper even started his trucking, laughing, flipping him off, and mouthing the word loser.
After pulling out of Tannyhill, he handed you the aux, saying, âAlright, Mss. Muse, youâre always listening to some music when I see you, so why donât you show me your favorite song?â You giddily take the cord and plug it into your phone, scrolling wildly back and forth, and then you look at him wide eyes, huffing out an irritated breath.
âThis is hard,â you said with a pout; he laughed then sat a moment thinking and trying to keep his eyes forward but stealing glances every few moments to let you know he was paying attention, saying finally, âHow about play me the song you canât get out of your head right now.â that made your eyes widen even more if that was even possible it made you look like a child in a candy shop âSmart and also much easier.â
Quickly, you scrolled, pressing on a song, and you sat back. You both enjoy the drive to the beach, listening to â3 Nightsâ by Dominic Fike playing in the background, watching the trees and beach blur past in one. The sun was still shining through the trees, casting rays of light into the car.
You sit and think about beach parties back home, how everyone would go cliff jumping, cave diving, or anything; the kids back home were thrill seekers. Back home collectively, your friends and people you knew would participate in things that could almost nearly positively end up with a broken neck.
You roll the window down, leaning in it slightly, humming the song, pretending your hand is surfing over make-believe waves that is just wind rushing past you. You take big breaths of the salty sea air and let the sun's rays peek and flash through the trees, warming you as you smile and think about how precious life can be; in moments like this, you feel alive.
Halfway through the drive, you look over to Kelce, whoâs faintly singing, which makes you start to sing to him, gesturing and pointing, saying, âSeems like you can use a little company from me.â pointing back to yourself at the end looking at him waiting on him and he looks at you from the corner of his eyes smile proliferating across his face singing with you. You throw your head back, laughing in pure joy. After that, you both get into the song, enjoying your time and dancing and being silly to the songs that play through afterâenjoying each other's company and the drive.
Once you arrive at the boneyard location, Kelce parks by some Jeeps, Mercedes, and Trucks, waiting for Topper to get there, still listening to music and having a grand time. You and Kelce are enjoying yourself so much you donât even notice when Sarah and Topper have not only walked over to Kelce's truck but are now watching through the front window; you and Kelce sing back and forth to an imaginary microphone in your hand singing to what was so obvious to hear as âStay with meâ by Sam Smith that Kelce was going in on it wholeheartedly.
The only thing that broke the car concert was Topper knocking on Kelce's window, making the other boy look at him like a deer during hunting season, frozen and petrified. This makes everyone laugh as you turn down the music and open the door where Sarah steps into the opening, leaning over you to Kelce, saying, âBravo, Encore, I never knew you were such a performer.â his cheeks are entirely red. Topper has his hand on his shoulder. âCâmom big guy, donât let them bully you just cause you have a prettier voice than them.â
This makes the group laugh as they all make their way out and away from the truck. Kelce lightly shoved Topper. âSheâs just got a good playlist; you try to have banger after banger play and not sing. I want to see you try.â Sarah shakes her head in agreement and laughs; she adds, âItâs true (F/N) is very good at choosing music.â
You run in front of the whole group and bow like an actress at the end of the play, saying, âThank you. I take my playlist very seriously.â With that, your back is turned to the group, heading straight into the swarm of people's heads; the crowd seemed drawn like moths to a flame, turning to your greetings, and you facing all the new people, giving them all with your prize-winning smile.
Through the evening, you talk to tons of people; you learn they group people here in the Outerbanks, which you donât like because we are all human, but apparently, you learn from one boy that you're something known as a kook cause you live in Figure 8.
You had to think briefly: your dad is well off, but you donât see yourself as rich. Your parents worked hard for what they had, and the same was expected of you, and thatâs what you will do: work hard and succeed.
As the night starts to take over, the sun creates light hues of color on the horizon. You end up bumping into Kiara, whom you met briefly at the clothes drive. â(F/N)(L/N), right?â she asks; you shake your head, saying back to her, âYou must be Kiara; sorry we didnât get more chance to speak at the drive. I caught the flu,â You say shyly, knowing the response is inaccurate. She brushes it off quickly, stating, âNo deal; your brother is awesome, and what you planned was amazing. Hey, do you wanna come sit with me for a bit?â you agreed and followed her.
The conversation with Kiara was insightful; you not only met her friends JJ, John B, and Pope, who came from the Cut, but all the boys seemed nice, albeit maybe a little wayward. You learned about some turtle habit construction happening from Kiara and when they will do a turtle release next month;
She asked If you wanted to join her, so you agreed and gave her your contact information so that you guys could contact each other; you sat and talked to Pope for a bit of time about your aspirations and his for the future learning that he wants to be a mortician.
What causes you to press forward into finding Sarah is your conversation with John B. You learned that six months ago. His father also went missing, and he desperately wanted to see him again and believed he was out there still.
This struck a chord in your heart like buildings tumbling down during a demolition; it made your stomach and chest constrict. It made you immediately think of Luca and Cameron and if they could still be out there waiting for somebody, anybody, to come and get them.
ďżźYou politely excuse yourself from John B in the end, pushing through the crowd, looking for Sarah and Top, finding them near the fire, whispering to each other, and walking straight toward you. When you walk up, Sarah turns, seeing your face looking slightly distraught, asking you what is happening.
When you start to speak, you are cut off slightly by a gasp of air; then, without thinking, you ask, âWhere is Kelce?â they look at you and say he left; you shake your head and walk off to sit a moment, and Sarah follows closely dragging Top kneeling by you saying âCâmon will stand in the waves and be at one with the sea.â Sarah reaches her hand out to you, which makes you smile hesitantly; grabbing her hand and standing to walk with her and Topper, who now looks slightly more annoyed than the previously presented concern.
As the three of you walk toward the water, you get stopped by JJ, one of Kiara's friends you didnât have the opportunity to talk to. JJ waltzed straight up to Sarah after saying something to John B. and asked, âSarah, can I interest you in a tasty Milwaukee beverage.â she politely declined, and he turned to you and said, âNew girl? wanna give it a try?â raising an eyebrow at you curiously you shake your head smiling shyly saying âIâm good-â he cuts you off saying âWhat is not fancy enough for you ladies,â
Standing there stunned, you are looking at him with a questioning look like you are not entirely sure whatâs happening, all while Topper does his best to diffuse the situation, finally saying, âHey, you know what? Iâll take itâ saying gratitude to the other boy trying to take the cup from his hands you sharply heard JJ say âthatâs nice, but I didnât ask you if you said pretty please maybeâ you could tell JJ was trying to get under Topper's skin and get a rise
Topper starts mimicking JJ's words under his breath, all while JJ continues to talk, and Sarah tries to calm them down. You and John B stand, staring at the situation from either side, wondering where to start. ďżźSuddenly, Topper smacks the cup of liquid into JJ's face, and the boys are at each other swiftly. JJ grabs Topper by the collar immediately; John B pulls the two boys apart, being proactive, trying to calm JJ down as Topper yells back at them, âDirty Pouges!â ďżź
This makes John B immediately turn and shove him back, chaos breaking loose as you wince slightly, thinking back to how bonfires were back home drama and gossip; yeah, that happened, but this is already out of hand over something as small as a drink.
In a moment, the boys are throwing punches and stumbling back toward the water, fighting each other, and Topper gets the upper hand on John B. You gasp slightly and move past the front of the crowd that was created around where you all once stood to be next to Sarah who is begging Topper to stop and that she wanted to go home
When John B rolls back into the water after a kick to the gut, Topper yells, âHey, John B, donât make me drown you like your old man., all right?â this makes you scoff in disgust at your new friend's boyfriend, who when you look into her face she looked just as disheartened by him right now.
As you looked back up, John B propelled back forward as a flurry of energy hit him, and they kept going; it was hard for you to watch; you only looked over twice once when John B yelled, completely enraged in his voice. âCome on, Topper! Let Go! Come on!â looking back over at the waves, wincing when you heard any hard contact. You looked again when you heard Sarah scream, âNo, Topper, Stop!â
You look up to Topper, who is drowning John B. You donât even stop before stepping forward from where you held Sarahâs shoulder, pressing back and using her body to pull you in front.
You place her protectively behind you, and like approaching a wounded animal or scared dog, you call, âHey, Topper.â at first, nothing, then a big step that causes a small splash at your feet, youâre shoes getting completely soaked.
Everyone in the crowd is silent; you take one more small step, still far enough away that youâre not in reach, but if Topper surged forward, he would surely be able to take you down into the water as well, but again, you tried.
âHey, Top, Look at me.â this time, your tone was harsher and firmer, like your brother used with you today when he left back for school or like how your mother used when she told you to do your homework as a child
Nothing Topper kept taunting John B, pushing and pulling his head up and down from the water, essentially drowning the boy right in front of your eyes. Your eyes slightly started to well with tears. Sarah from the side called one more time, âTopper!â one more time to no avail. Shaking your head a moment, looking to Sarah, who looks back, both of you look crestfallen; you only look when you hear gasps.
You look up to see JJ walking up with something in his hand, and then you recognize the black steel-looking object, a gun; the world stills. You donât hear anything; you observe JJ's movements, standing frosted to your spot; you watch the weapon being pressed to the back of Topper's head, which makes the blood run cold through your body, probing your mind for anything you can do at this moment but canât. None of these people know you; they arenât going to listen to you. You still canât hear what the boys are saying over all the commotion happening behind you and within you.
What can be told is Kiara and Sarah are yelling, and youâre standing there shocked at what is even unfolding in front of you when you thought of a beach kegger; this is never what you would have imagined; it all boiling up to whatâs happening You hear Sarah yell to him âJJ stop! Put the gun down.â
You chimed in a futile attempt to diffuse what you can, stepping back next to Sarah now that there was a weapon in the equation, saying, âJJ, itâs not worth it; put down the gun.â turning to look at you and Sarah, a dark look on his face.
âDid you say something, princess?â you both stare at each other. You look back not in fear but with sorrow. JJ, still making eye contact, pulls the gun away from his head, bringing it to the side, panting out, âWeâre good.â Topper slowly stumbles up from the water while Sarah yells at Kiara.
You take a moment to breathe and ensure you're not shaking when you hear people yelling. You watch as Topper slowly stumbles your way, and gunshots ring out from the gun JJ has raised in the air. Sarah grabs your hand, trying to guide you to Topperâs truck, but ultimately, you lose her in the crowd from all the pushing and shoving.
When you walk through, looking around, you see a few guys who you would most likely classify as kooks standing around; they ask if you need a ride multiple times as you stand there trying, and you lie, saying youâre waiting for your boyfriend until finally, they seem to congregate in a small group together still watching you, but from afar.
You sit alone on a withered log, waiting and hoping the text you had initially typed earlier, right after your conversation with John B, but before the commotion, you can only hope that the recipient will answer you as quickly as they usually do
Halfway across the island, Rafe's phone pings, and he slowly tries to pull from the grasp of the girl lying halfway over him before he hears, âRafey, donât; itâs probably just Topper being stupid; heâs drunk; lay back down.â he does only because she was kissing along the expanse of his neck hand trailing down his toned stomach she lets out little moans into his neck. Closing his eyes, he tries to enjoy the feeling as much as he can until his phone starts physically ringing.
Rafe huffs, annoyance pooling through him, leaning over as he hears Emma make a little whine from the loss of contact with him, and when he picks up the phone, putting it to his ear before even thinking to check who it is, saying âJesus Christ Top canât you tell Iâm busy Emââ
Then he hears it so quietly, a little sniffle just like the first call, and he almost thinks heâs dreaming till he pulls his phone away and sees the word Angel â¤ď¸ written on the top; Rafe puts the phone back to his ear; sitting up straight, which caused Emma to fall back with a huff on his bed entirely.
Gently through the telephone, he says to you, âAngel,â he hears another slight sniffle, and you say quietly again, âMessages,â and with that, you hang up. Rafe starts to panic slightly to think that not only does he almost tell you about the half-naked girl currently sprawled across his sheets, but you wonât talk to him; then he reads the messages
Angel â¤ď¸: Pls, I know itâs a lot to ask, but will you pick me up from the boneyard? Sarah and Topper left me, and some guys are being weird.
Angel â¤ď¸: The cops are here and are talking to me next, so Iâm less worried, but if you can, I still need a ride. I canât go home tonightâŚ
Rafeđ޸: Iâll be there. Give me 10 minutes, princess.
Seeing those last messages, Rafe is up and into his closet, Emma whining, saying, âRafey, what are you doing? You said weâd have fun tonight?â trying to do what could only be described as a pathetic attempt to conquer eyes full of lust roaming him, but lips pulled into a pout. Rafe turns, looking at her dead in the eyes, saying, unfeeling to the girl on his bed.
âBe gone before Iâm back.â with that, he was out the door, down the stairs, and on his motorcycle down the road before he could even turn back to see Emmaâs angry image slowly stomping down his front porch steps with no shoes and looking highly disgruntled.
Just like he had promised, Rafe's figure takes shape, walking up to you; cops were talking to other kids your age, handing out some tickets to those who they could tell were intoxicated, but you sat, your arms wrapped around yourself, face down all by yourself. He notices your face is pale, and you are looking at your hands, tracing your thumbs back and forth from each hand.
Scanning the area, he sees some Kooks grouped, the group of creeps he assumes, some he knows, some he doesnât. They watch him walk your way; their eyes are broad, faces starke. He smirks their way and continues his stride toward you; when he reaches you, he leans down, putting his hand gently on your knee, kneeling to try for eye contact.
The contact from Rafe made you look up, your usually gorgeous (E/C) eyes clouded with some darkness; you say in such a small voice, âYou came,â a hint of a smile on your face, and it makes him smile back at you âalways will angelâ he waits a moment letting that sink in for you.
Rafe stands to his full height, holding his hand to you, saying, âC'mon, letâs head home.â You didnât even think twice before completely interlocking your fingers with his. Even though this surprised him, he guided you to his bike, parked in front of the first cop car. Already, Rafe could feel what felt like the shock from an electric wire meant to keep animals in a paddock. Every time his palm brushed yours, a jolt would go through his limbs. All the while, you were trying so hard to keep your palms away, aware and afraid heâd think you had clammy hands.
He walked you to the side of the bike, grabbing the helmet, saying sternly but almost gently, â There is only one of these, butâŚâ You begin to cut in. Still, he cuts you off, eyes, brows, and voice slightly raising. âNo argument; you are gonna get home safe no matter what, or your brother will freak out on me.â this makes you smile and shut your mouth, letting him slip the helmet on your head and put the straps through on the bottom. When heâs done, he places a hand on either side of the helmet.
He shakes it, smiling at you as you flip up the visor, saying, âHey,â he chuckles and says, âIâm sorry, angel had to make sure it wasnât loose,â he flips the visor back down, smiling, at you he helps you on the bike. He lets you know to be careful of the exhaust and that youâll have to sit as close as you can to him since his bike is technically only a one-person bike.
After assuring you multiple times that heâll get you to Tannyhill safely and not to worry that heâs got you. he climbed on the bike, starting and pulling off slowly; itâll still made you jolt forward, wrapping your arms tightly around his stomach and pressing your head firmly to his back as much as you could with the helmet. He turned back, saying softly, âHold on tight, donât let go,â and then back forward before acceleratingďżź forward.
Along the ride, all Rafe could think about was the thrumming he felt throughout his body, feeling you pressed this close against his back. Behind the helmet, you were taking steady breaths to stop the feeling of electricity in your fingertips every time a finger pressed against his stomach, feeling how toned he was had your heart pumping, praying that Rafe couldnât feel it on his back.
Not that it would matter anyway cause his heart was beating just as hard, loud, and fast as yours. Anytime youâd hit any bumps, youâd grip him tighter and nuzzle closer; heâd have to take a calming breath.
Eventually, after 25 minutes since he was trying to go easy on the ride, you arrived at Tannyhill. Rafe quickly hopped off, turning to you and unbuckling the bottom of the helmet. He set that on the seat where he was sitting
Rafe helped you off the bike so you didnât stumble; once both feet planted, he reached up and smoothed the hair on the tops and side of your head that got messy, tracing his hands till he was cupping your cheeks in his palms like delicate flowers about to blow away in the breeze looking in your eyes he whispered.
âYou are beautiful.â You lay your head straight into his chest, making his palms rest on the nape of your neck. âThanks for always showing up, Rafe.â he takes one hand, tilting your head to look at him, saying with a smirk, âI told you always, and I meant it.â That made your cheeks burn a bright red
Standing in front of Tannyhill late on a June evening, you and Rafe stare at each other, orbs tracing each other like the earth and space were colliding to make one big picture or like a string is being pulled taut. You didnât even realize you were leaning into him and that his hands were trailing to your waist. None of it matters except the feeling of you both trying to press closer but not entirely doing it
Nothing matters until you hear a voice you know that makes you springboard backward from him, standing straight and turning towards the figure, waving and smiling brightly like nothing even happened behind you. Rafe's eyes go from hooded to a scowl directed right at Sarah
Sarah is running to you, wrapping you in a hug, saying, âOh my god, I am so sorry. I tried to make him go back, but then he complained about cops, and then we fought.â you end up grabbing her wrist and saying, âSarah, itâs okay.â
You give her your classic smike; sheâs already growing to love being around you and your individualistic nature; thatâs when she grabs your hand, saying, â I set up the boat for us. Iâve got my laptop; we can watch Netflix,â letting her pull you off.
You throw one last glance over your shoulder to Rafe; he stands there expecting to meet your eyes one last time, and you do.
You turn and meet his eyes with all the brightness heâs growing to be so fond sparkling like the stars on a clear night; you smirk at him, and thatâs how he knows the game of cat and mouse has finally begun, which has him with a devilish grin on his face watching you disappear around the corner of the house.

I, a Zutara shipper, would have way more fun self inserting on Mai
So why donât I?
A short essay on self inserting, what it means, my experience, and why it shouldnât be a problem.
So the âproblemâ of me self inserting recently arose again with discourse surrounding a post of mine. Iâll spare you the details, but someone, in an attempt to make me look like a bad person (I assume) said that I was a âself insertâ. At first, I was confused because I donât understand why something like that would be used as an insult. Then I remembered the horrible stigmatization that self inserting has had on the atla fandom.
So Iâd like to bring light to what it truly means to self insert.
For this short essay, Iâll be using the term âself insertionâ as defined by Wikipedia:
âSelf-insertion is a literary device in which the author writes themselves into the story under the guise of, or from the perspective of, a fictional character. The character, overtly or otherwise, behaves like, has the personality of, and may even be described as physically resembling the author of the work.â
First, I would like to go over why I would personally prefer self inserting on Mai, since itâs technically the clickbait for this post.
I had a very large emo/goth phase a few years back. I loved wearing black, chokers, being depressed, etc. while I donât necessarily identify with that version of myself anymore, I still hold high praise to any and all people who are emo/grunge/goth/fall under that kind of category. Now, Iâm not saying that Mai is emo, sheâs actually the exact opposite as she doesnât display much of any emotion, but she is a badass female character who has space buns, a fiery personality, and really cool weapons. I actually like the idea of her a bit more than Katara, and it would certainly be easy to self insert onto her since her character was never really fleshed out.
(Look at her⌠sheâs so cool. I canât decide if I wanna be her or be with herâŚ) this would probably also be a great time to say that I donât feel here nor there about Mai in fandom spaces. There are many anti Mai people out there, but I honestly donât care much for her at this point other than what Iâve already established.
I can relate to a good portion of her problems (being the face of her family, holding their reputation, not having many friends etc.) so self inserting on to her would honestly be no problem for me. So why donât I do it?
Because my characterization as a shipper doesnât revolve around myself. If it did, Iâd totally okay into that sarcastic brooding gf because I think itâs kinda badass.
I ship Zutara not because I personally wanna be with Zuko, but because I want Katara to be with Zuko. Does that mean that I donât self insert onto Katara? Hell to the no.
Self inserting helps me understand a character to the best of my ability. In order to figure out how a character might act, react, or approach a situation, I have to put myself into their shoes, thatâs just how I work. I donât think this is a mindset that is personal to just me either, there are plenty of other people who self insert onto Katara and Zuko in order to best convey the realism of their stories.
Now, Iâve self inserted onto BOTH Katara and Zuko, (which probably wonât stop the haters any more than before since I am attracted to both men and women) and in each of those times, I am sure to always stay true to the original characters. I am always considering how the characters were brought up, what they have experienced that has shaped their personality and how they have behaved before.
But I canât just rely on that to help me tell a story. I have to feel the characters. I have to know what theyâre feeling and how it affects them.
This may seem weird, but when writing, Iâll often close my eyes and imagine myself in a scenario much like what the people Iâm writing about are experiencing.
This is how I became well known for some of my writing.
Iâve written monologues for characters to say that reflect my own experiences to help give myself and others peace of mind.
Iâve written relationships based on flaws Iâve had with people in my life.
And Iâve written hate. Because I feel hate, and I know that Katara and Zuko do too.
Self inserting shouldnât be viewed as something thatâs horrible for authors to do, it should be embraced. There shouldnât be a world where people canât share their experiences through people they relate to.
If you canât see yourself agreeing with me, Iâm sorry, but I donât think weâll ever see eye to eye. This is something that I am passionate about, and I will not be thrown off my stance because of a small insult.
In conclusion, I could very easily self insert onto Mai, you could even say it would be lemon squeezy, but self insertion isnât the only thing that drives me to ship characters, and it never will be. I am a complex person with complex emotions that have led me to look at Katara and Zuko and envy their relationship. Yeah, I want it, and there shouldnât be anything wrong with that.

"before Forever, before the island. Who was he and why is Etoiles so interested???"
oh my god ow the fucking shot through the chest this was omgggggggg not only asking about what happened from the source (phil) but who he was before- when he had an isolated identity AAAAAAAAAA THEMMMMM ETOILES THE FUCKING GOAT AS PER USUAL NOTHING LESS TO BE EXPECTED OMGGGG also the idea of him being his best friend in this au is so like emotional to me- to have phil be put through so much pain all the time at all angles, emotionally and physically to have at least Someone just One person to turn to who sees past the servers lies and rumors omg the agony this is amazing they're my roman empire too I literally brainrot abt them all the time
The song Milk by Jack Stauber is pretty much exactly what they have
The song is technically about death, thinking of a dead person you didn't know but I feel like it works so well because a part of Phil is dead. The part of him that really matters to Etoiles
Etoiles doesn't care about what Forever forced Phil to be. He cares that somewhere, there's a person who used to have friends and a family and a nice little house that he made with his own hands
What kind of life did you live through? Did you know love? Will you rest in peace? Did you have a family?
Who was Phil before Forever changed him?
That's all Etoiles cares about.
It's okay that Phil can't fight things! He used to!! He used to fight and laugh and help people, he used to explore and build and discover!! That's who he really is. Etoiles can see that, even when nobody else can
He even manages to get some of that back. Phil, finally, has a way to get back a part of himself that he lost through Etoiles. He can laugh and explore and make things again and he doesn't have to worry about what Forever will think because he's not here!! He's not here and Etoiles would risk everything for Phil because they're FRIENDS!!
Phil can't hold a weapon anymore but he can hold Pomme and tell her grand stories about the man he used to be, the empire he built, the world he created for himself, his friends and his family. He can hold Etoiles' daughter and tell her how to build things, how to properly shoot a bow and arrow or how she should always avoid ravines!
Etoiles sees this man for the first time and goes "I want to know you" and when he's told what happened through other people's perspectives he says "NO. Nonono I want to know YOU." and he ASKS and he CARES!!! He hears the rumors and says "There has to be more to Phil than Forever."
Cellbit pulls him aside to explain everything properly and Etoiles turns away and says he doesn't believe in secondary research and he's going straight to the source, thank you!! If this is not an invitation to kill Forever for what he did to Phil HE DOES NOT WANT TO KNOW!!
Etoiles knows that somewhere, in another world, where none of this happened, they're best friends. They're besties and they play fight and do dungeons together because that's what they like to do.
Etoiles will settle knowing it could have been.
#FML would be fixed if etoiles and phil got married#qsmp#qsmp philza#qsmp etoiles#qsmp codebreakers#they are everything to me#id kill and die for these boys do you hear me#forever my love au

if ur ok with more fantastical and/or meta stuff, could i please have the mercs with an s/o who was teleported to the tf2 verse from a much more serious setting and is still getting used to their comedic surroundings?
Oooh
Mercs with an S/o who is from a different universe
Tw: (slight mention of drinking in Demo's one)
Scout
Is a bit confused, since he's used to his world and hasn't really thought of it being different in some way.
But he does kind of understand his S/o's frustration, from what he's heard from them, his world doesn't seem bad in the slightest.
If his S/o asks him about something, he'll act as if he knows all about it, but his S/o can tell that he's just a motormouth. He does say the truth sometimes, but it sounds so outrageous that his S/o doesn't believe him anyways.
"Did ya' know that I'm God's gift to women?"
"Yeah...sure you are."
Soldier
Loves that his S/o is tough and ready for anything, but is oblivious to the fact that something must have happened to them that made them that way.
Once he does get it though, he is really protective of his S/o in the way that he teaches them his infamous necksnap, how to defend themselves and how to use certain weapons.
"You're doing great, cupcake!"
Pyro
Is kind of a distraction for his S/o.
Like, both the fact that they're strangelly wholesome and that they see the world completely differently makes their S/o worry less about everything else.
Pyro holds their S/o's hand if they are in public or are feeling paranoid.
If their S/o wants an explanation for something they'll have to ask someone else, but if their S/o tells them about it afterwards, they will draw a picture of them
Demoman
He is at a loss for words at first, because he, just like his coworkers, hasn't thought about his world differently from a different perspective.
He, for once, worries about his S/o drinking their trauma away and hides his alchohol better, locking it away in safes, lockers and cabinets.
If his S/o feels paranoid, he'll bring them away from people and soothe them.
Engineer
He's honestly sorry for it, but there are times when he's more enticed about how his S/o might have ended up in his world than his S/o's world itself or their backstory.
"Did ya' temper with anything that could have caused ya' to teleport to our universe?"
"...We were just talking about how leaders in my world killed people for no reason..."
"*clears throat* oh..right, my apologies...carry on..."
But other than that, he tackles one silly thing after another, telling his S/o about them as well as providing theories to them about his world to calm them down and keep them from overthinking.
Heavy
Is willing to act as a personal bodyguard for his S/o. He always stays by their side and makes sure they're not feeling paranoid or stressed.
If his S/o asks something about his world, he tries to explain it but quickly starts tripping over his words, apologizes and suggests they go and visit Medic or Engineer.
Heavy is also a good listener and wants to know what his S/o's world was like.
Medic
He is INVESTED in his S/o's world and backstory, gladly listening to them when they feel like talking about it. He even specifically asks to not leave out the gruesome and/or serious details.
S/o: *talking about a traumatizing event that dramatically changed their life*
Medic: *looking at his S/o, listening to them carefully, hand under his chin, unbothered by the theme*
Medic lets them watch his operations if his S/o needs a bit of space to breathe from exploring his comedic world.
Would try to explain anything that ponders his S/o's mind about his world, succeeding in explaining his medical adventures and achievements.
Sniper
He tries to slowly but steadily explain how the world works and he himself realizes how silly it is compared to his S/o's home.
"Wait, wait. So, New Zealand is underwater and you're the last person from there and Australia is full of buff people with moustaches, because of a metal very creatively called 'Australium'?"
"Yea...we're all so used these things that Oi haven't even thought why they work in such ways.."
He understands that his S/o is still paranoid and helps them get used to his world by making lighthearted jokes about their surroundings as well as actually gently soothing them when they're paranoid.
Spy
Spy is a bit confused at first, thinking his S/o is crazy. But he spends more time with them and from the way they talk, act and interact with their surroundings, he can tell that they're telling the truth.
If his S/o is paranoid or stressed, he lets them use his cloak, so they can observe the chaos from aside and learn the weirdness of his world without needing to worry about them getting involved in it.
Spy also promises his S/o that he's always going to make sure they're safe and will watch their back.
"From now on, zhere won't be a time when you aren't safe."
Ms. Pauling
Finally, someone understands her!
"Wow! And they called me crazy, can you believe it!?"
Pauling is a great listener and lets her S/o talk about themselves and their world, if it makes them feel better.
Always provides her S/o with something to always protect themselves with (guns, knives, tranquilizers - you name it)
She may or may not sneak her S/o in to her office, if they're feeling anxious about their surroundings.
Sorry for the wait, anon!

ive been holding off on posting this bc ive been formulating my thoughts (also i never post) but since it seems we're having a racism in the buffyverse/fandom moment (should be every moment!) I figured now would be a good time to vent my feelings on the first slayer.
I do a lot of hobbyist research into the stone age its a long running special interest of mine, and ive just finished writing my dissertation on a number of things including primitivism in contemporary culture. so drawing from that i wanted to expand on the tags I left on the previous post, with the clarification that i am white and european and therefore am speaking from that perspective on this subject.
as far as I can remember, the original Buffy movie had flashbacks to the medieval period, with a white medieval woman in these flashbacks implied to be the first slayer. if that's right and I'm not just misremembering, this would tie in to the pop culture associations of this era with catholicism, witch hunts, gothic castles; all of which further ties into popular vampire lore. however, the tv show leans away from this, with vampires being the only demons vulnerable to christian iconography and most of the worldbuilding drawing from multitheistic (not sure if this is the right word) traditions, preferring pantheons of minor gods, demons as folkloric monsters rather than fallen angels, and the existence of multiple hell dimensions.
the way the show does this is often very primitivist, primitivism here meaning the (often harmful) romanticisation of cultures and eras considered "less advanced", interpreting them as therefore more exotic, interesting, or just plain better than modern western society and in doing so flattening them into solely an appealing primitive fantasy.
examples of this can be seen in the foreign and/or dead languages used in magic and demon research, the appropriated eastern and African imagery used in weapons and costumes, the writing of characters like kendra (who's "people" seem to know a lot about the supernatural but are never actually named), jenny calendar (who carries plot-relevant cultural knowledge from her mysticised "people"), and nikki wood, through whose son buffy learns the ancient - primitive - origins of the first slayer.
the choice to relocate the origins of the slayer from medieval europe to (im assuming, since they never specify) paleolithic africa make a lot of sense in context of the shows de-emphasing of christianity in their vampire lore. this would change the slayer from a warrior chosen by the church to fight unholy creatures, to a defender of humanity at large from folkloric monsters. it also makes the slayer line a lot longer, extending far back into human history.
you'd think.
because the problem is im not honestly convinced anyone writing these episodes knows or cares about the accepted findings that show homo sapiens originated in africa, I can't honestly say it comes across that they were trying to imply that the slayer existed before the first waves of human migration by depicting her as they did. i dont actually know if these characters are intended to come from the stone age or just an ambiguous pre-colonial africa and im being very generous by writing this post the way i have. I think they made the very simple connection of "primitive = cool and mysterious" to "black = primitive". the depictions of the first slayer and first watchers are tangibly racist. their treatment by the narrative is tangibly racist.
the first slayer is depicted as animalistic, brutal, and vengeful, but rather than have buffy empathise with her over their shared experience of being used as a tool of violence, the episode has buffy mock and belittle her down to making a joke about her unprofessional hair. the first watchers are set up as the backward patriarchal villains for buffy and willow to overcome by rewriting the terms of the slayer lineage, in both cases black characters are vilified to make white women seem cooler, more self-possessed, more powerful.
it's not just the treatment of individual characters. its fundamental pillars of the lore. non-european (and some minority european) cultures are consistently used to be spooky, occult, and exotic set dressing, while two whole season finales hinge on abject primitivism and antiblackness.
to clarify, i think in another show with a different writing team, the depiction of scientifically accurate (i.e. dark-skinned) early homo sapiens could be achieved in a wholly inoffensive way if these characters were simply written as people. removing the layers of primitivism from the first slayer reveals a traumatised girl who was forced to fight, just like fandom-beloved characters buffy and faith, albeit from a very different time period. but the layers of primitivism are the reason why she was written in the first place. the "primal" is mysterious, spooky, powerful, and therefore makes for good writing without ever having to clarify what it is you mean when you say "primal".
stone age people were not animalistic manifestations of modern-day people's repressed subconscious. they were people. the refusal to see this is another branch from the same root - that the writers see cultures and people outside of the modern west as less-than. but if their language sounds cool for a summoning chant, then they get to be less-than in a ~cool and mysterious~ way, i guess.
#if ive used any incorrect terms or misconstrued anything here id be much obliged if you could let me know#anyway.#analysis#personal#buffy the vampire slayer

Varney the Vampire, Chapter 24: Any Satisfaction You Like I Will Give You
[Previous chapter] [Next chapter]
Admiral Bell meets back up with Charles. At first he attempts to skirt around the fact that he arranged to duel Varney himself in Charles' stead, but quickly caves and tells Charles everything. Varney's insistence on fighting with swords worries him, and he fears for Charles' life should he go forward with the duel. Charles is upset by this, feeling that he ought to be the one to duel Varney since he sent the original challenge. Admiral Bell asks Charles to give him an hour or two to think, which Charles reluctantly agrees to.
While the admiral is gone, Charles receives a letter from Varney, explaining the situation with the Admiral from his perspective and offering to fulfill Charles' original duel challenge. He requests Charles meet him by a certain tree at midnight, and to come alone. Charles immediately decides he is going to go, and also that he's not going to tell anybody, because otherwise Varney might think he's a coward.
Having thusly cast aside every braincell he has, Charles seeks Flora's company, and they spend a lovely hour talking to each other in Rymer's torturous impression of romantic dialogue. Charles reassures Flora that he definitely isn't planning to run off and do something dangerous and stupid. At the end of the hour, Charles gets up to meet back up with his uncle, but gives Flora a kiss on the cheek before he goes, which apparently is a first for them. As he leaves, he is struck by a sudden sense of horrible foreboding, but dismisses it as mere nerves.
Well, there goes the last ounce of Charles' common sense.
Varney appears to have successfully rattled the Admiral, at least as far as Charles' safety; he spends a lot of time and words trying to convince his nephew that this duel is a bad idea. Charles, whose Honor is on the line, will hear none of it.
"Why, to tell the truth, my lad, I advise you not to fight with him at all." "Uncle, is this like you? This advice from you, to compromise my honour, after sending a man a challenge?" "Dân it all, Jack, I don't know how to get out of it," said the admiral. "I tell you what it is, Charles, he wants to fight with swords; and what on earth is the use of your engaging with a fellow who has been practising at his weapon for more than a hundred years?" "Well, uncle, if any one had told me that you would be terrified by this Sir Francis Varney into advising me not to fight, I should have had no hesitation whatever in saying such a thing was impossible."
Charles is confident in his own fencing skill, which he attributes to his two-year jaunt on the continent. Sorry, Charles, but your uncle has a point - do you think your two years of fencing practice will hold up against a man with more than a century's experience?
Varney is willing to give Charles the chance he wants, though. His letter to Charles is much longer than Charles' duel challenge, so I won't copy all of it here, just the highlights.
Owing to some unaccountable hallucination of intellect, [Admiral Bell] seemed to imagine that I intended to set myself up as a sort of animated target, for any one to shoot at who might have a fancy so to do.
He spends much of the letter roasting the admiral.
"There is a pollard oak growing close to a small pool; you, no doubt, have noticed the spot often. Meet me there, if you please, and any satisfaction you like I will give you, at twelve o'clock this night. "Come alone, or you will not see me. It shall be at your own option entirely, to convert the meeting into a hostile one or not.
This is a date invitation. You will not convince me otherwise.
You need send me no answer to this. If you are at the place I mention at the time I have named, well and good. If you an not, I can only, if I please, imagine that you shrink from a meeting with "FRANCIS VARNEY."
A shrewd move on Varney's part. "Be there or I'll think you're chicken" is devastatingly effective on Charles Holland.
"I will show this vampyre, if he be such," he said, "that I am not afraid to meet him, and alone, too, at his own hourâat midnight, even when, if his preternatural powers be of more avail to him than at any other time, he can attempt, if he dare, to use them."
CHARLES. This invitation has "MASSIVE FUCKING TRAP" written all over it in giant red letters. You idiot.
It would have been far more prudent had Charles informed Henry Bannerworth or George of his determination to meet the vampyre that evening, but he did not do so. Somehow he fancied it would be some reproach against his courage if he did not go, and go alone, too, for he could not help suspecting that, from the conduct of his uncle, Sir Francis Varney might have got up an opinion inimical to his courage.
CHARLES.
His intention, it would seem, has shifted from the object of a duel, though he does prepare a couple of pistols to take with him. You know, because those have been proven to work so well on Varney in the past. Charles' new goal is to confront Varney on the subject of his true nature, and determine once and for all if he's really a vampire - a Scooby-Doo unmasking, in other words. I'm sure there's no possible way this could go wrong.
Charles and Flora have another ~romantic~ conversation.
"It is misfortune and distress that tries love," said Charles. "It is thus that the touchstone is applied to see if it be current gold indeed, or some base metal, which by a superficial glitter imitates it." "And your love is indeed true gold." "I am unworthy of one glance from those dear eyes if it were not."
Yeah, it's more of this.
Also some of this:
"Do not run into danger, Charles." "I will not. Believe me, Flora, I have too much appreciation of the value of an existence which is blessed by your love, to encounter any needless risks."
[slams head against desk] Charles.
"And yet you have a sense of what you call honour, which, I fear, would lead you into much risk." "I have a sense of honour; but not that foolish one which hangs far more upon the opinions of others than my own."
Oh yeah, not that kind of honor. This definitely has nothing to do with anyone's opinion of you. Hold on, what was that line from earlier?
Somehow he fancied it would be some reproach against his courage if he did not go, and go alone, too, for he could not help suspecting that, from the conduct of his uncle, Sir Francis Varney might have got up an opinion inimical to his courage.
Charles I swear to god.
Rymer now expects us to believe Charles and Flora spend an entire hour just talking about how much they love each other. Dude, would it kill you to give them a shared interest or something?
They pictured to themselves the scene where first they met, and with a world of interest hanging on every word they uttered, they told each other of the first delightful dawnings of that affection which had sprung up between them, and which they fondly believed neither time nor circumstance would have the power to change or subvert.
Earlier, in chapter 6, I made fun of the line where the author implies Charles and Flora's relationship consists entirely of "mutually affectionate glances"; however, this would appear to have been proven factually correct.
He knew not what impulse came over him then, but for the first time he kissed the cheek of the beautiful girl. With a heightened colour she gently repulsed him.
It was a different time, I guess.
A strange heaviness came across his spirits, which before had been so unaccountably raised. He felt as if the shadow of some coming evil was resting on his soulâas if some momentous calamity was preparing for him, which would almost be enough to drive him to madness, and irredeemable despair. "What can this be," he exclaimed, "that thus oppresses me? What feeling is this that seems to tell me, I shall never again see Flora Bannerworth?"
COMMON SENSE, Charles.

Thanks for the rec list! If I have the brainspace while doing college work, I'll have a look :)
Unsure if you're interested in any sort of chatter about the show (critical perspetive obv) as I know it'd just be tiring to get bogged down in complaints? If that's so, instead of starting that conversation, is there anything about any of the comics you'd want to spotlight? I've seen a couple characters I'm unfamiliar with that I'm curious about.
i'm going to be so for real i do not remember much about the show anymore; i recently got into supernatural which has fifteen seasons, 20+ books, an anime, and a lot of behind the scenes and crew content so the show's been almost entirely pushed out of my head minus how it directly affects the comics, to make room for the new interest as well as what i'm still interested in re: comics. if i talk about daredevil it's entirely from the perspective of the comics, a limited perspective at that because ive been fixated on a character with like fifty issues for almost two years.
but YES okay. i'm mainly spotlighting characters here since i mentioned mike murdock in my last post, but i'm named after sam chung aka blindspot, who is soule's original character who first appeared in his v5 run (2017). my mutual @faacethefacts is quite literally sam chung central and my favourite interpretation of his character exists in their psyche.
jumping all the way back to v1, something i remember really enjoying were the reoccurring background characters in ann nocenti's run; @murdockmeta and i were talking about it the other day and he said, "nocenti's characterization feels so authentic [...] nocenti reminds the reader that karen and foggy and the people of hell's kitchen are just as important to matt as his internal struggles. it makes him feel much more human rather than just a dichotomy [relating to miller]."
all of david mack's runs changed my perspective of comics as an art form which was a pretty low bar to reach as a first-time comic reader (who had only read post-mcu stuff) but that made his stuff all the more important to me. his character maya lopez aka echo recently got a live action adaption and while i thought it was promising that disney finally reached their own lowest fucking bar and starred a deaf actress in a show about a deaf character, i've found that disney's interpretation of echo's abilities horribly and purposely misunderstands her character and her identity as keetoowah. they tied her abilities to her native american identity, which is something mack explicitly did not do when writing her character; her abilities are her aid as a deaf person !! they're part of her conflict as a weapon !! her cherokee identity should be a fact about her, explored but not tied to the mysticism of that fictional world !! either way, do not watch the show, read the comics <3
god okay. bendis introduces a lot of his own ocs because that's kind of his thing but my favourites were milla donovan and agent del toro. they fell into the wrong hands after he stopped writing for daredevilâmilla was fridged (if you know how to look at it, it can be a really good tragedy) and they whitewashed del toro in their racist the hand plotlineâbut their existence was super important to me and i'm just terribly fond of them :') matt's relationship with ben urich throughout v2 is also something i hold close to my heart because 1) bendis specifically does really well with writing relationships and people, and the nuance of it intrigues me; i could write meta about it if i got back into writing comic meta again, and 2) that's the last we see of them until the most recent run (word-of-mouth, btw. i haven't read v8 yet).
KIRSTEN IS MY GIRL!! she's like so important to me. i'm imprinted on her. if i was on tumblr in 2012, and she as a character existed, i'd fight tooth and nail to have her on my kin list and make sure no one else did. she unfortunately succumbed to the whitewashing demon of daredevil past but that's okay because to me, she is living her best life after [v5 spoilers tbh].
my relationship with elektra can simply be described as that of something akin to a strike. i refuse to read anything of modern daredevil if she's in the title. she has her own fucking title !! we're regressing and it makes me feel a little bit more insane every time i remember that zdarsky stuffed her into the daredevil suit and gave her ableist and infantilising lines for matt. either way i implore you to read nothing about her in the daredevil title past 2018 and to make sure you check out her actual title. amen.
also, simply, matt and foggy's relationship. and not so simply, i miss you karen you deserved better.
#this was mostly ramble but thank you for letting me talk about this stuff it's been a while :)#im still here for more questions of course :3#answered
