Valicer In The Dark: "A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded" Outline!
Hello everyone -- I recently started work on the second Valicer In The Dark story, "A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded" (aka the one where they kill Bumby), and I thought it might be neat to share with you guys the outline I prepared for the story! Especially since I don't have any Sims 4 stuff to share on Wednesdays at the moment, thanks to the Chill Valicer Save file no longer functioning. :( I have plans for a successor, but it's going to take a little bit to get off the ground, so...
*shakes head* Anyway -- outline! My planning process for this story involved approaching it like it was an actual Blades In The Dark score -- complete with deciding on the type of plan the gang was going to use (and the detail they needed to provide), the loads they were going to have (and thus how much stuff they could actually carry), and doing actual rolls to figure out how the story would progress as they encountered various obstacles! (I, uh, may have purchased actual BITD-themed dice and a dice tray explicitly for this purpose. ^^;) However, I also took a moment to note down any "must-happen" moments in the fic first -- basically, any particularly important or cool bits that were going to occur no matter WHAT the dice said. Reason being, I've done some "rolling for something on the spot" fic-writing in the past with a friend, and I know how fucking frustrated I get whenever a dice roll ruins the cool thing that was supposed to happen in my head. Noting down the things I was DETERMINED to have happen and doing all the rolls BEFORE I actually started writing meant that I couldn't get angry at a good moment being ruined. Though actually, as you'll see, the dice were pretty kind to the trio in this score! I guess they wanted to make sure they succeeded in their task as much as I did. :) So, without further ado, here's the outline/score summary for "A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded!" Naturally, there will be spoilers for what happens in the fic, but I'll put most of it behind a cut, and you guys already know I have no care for spoiling my own stuff on here. XD
---
Score: Infiltrate the Houndsditch Home For Wayward Youth in Charhollow, find proof of Bumby’s activities, and preferably kill the bastard
Plan Type: Stealth (I mean, there’s going to be an element of Assault, but first they have to get in)
Detail: Point of Infiltration – the back door into the basement kitchen of the house
Loads: Alice – Light; Victor – Light; Smiler – Light (each have three load slots)
Have To Happen Moments:
The gang successfully make it to Alice’s room so she can get her stuff; possible heartfelt moment when they see the picture of her family on her wall
The gang successfully finds Bumby’s ledger in his office (inside a safe stowed away in a hidden drawer of his desk; it’s generally opened via Lizzie’s key but can be picked)
Bumby shows up, and Alice reclaims Lizzie’s room key and blows him up
Gang successfully escapes with the ledger, and run into Smiler’s parents Matt and Carol as they head out of town; they’re taken back to the Ministry Of Joy for the Names (aka night)
Engagement Roll:
+1 d for sheer luck
+1 d for being bold or daring (they’re trying to expose a known philanthropist as a child pimp)
+1 d for exposing a vulnerability of the target (Dr. Bumby has written off Alice as lost in the city and hired a new dogsbody, AND he doesn’t think she’d ever get anyone to help her if she did tell anyone about his activities)
3d total
Result: 1, 2, 4 – Mixed result, risky position – they get in the back door without incident, but Alice’s replacement June comes into the kitchen as they’re preparing to head up the stairs
Score Rolls:
As per the above, trio encounters June coming into the kitchen shortly after their successful infiltration and have to get past her – Smiler immediately introduces themselves and explains that they were hoping to meet with Dr. Bumby to see if they could form a partnership, as they believe their alchemical prowess would help the man in his work (they are indeed cringing on the inside as they say this) – Sway, 2d – 6! June believes them and sends them up to see Dr. Bumby with the other two
Safely inside the house, Victor gets the idea for Alice to get her stuff from her room before they proceed further (having already suggested they grab it before they went); Alice agrees with this and they grab her things (1 load for Victor, who I picture as carrying the bag)
Head up the stairs to Bumby’s office, encounter one of the children (Abigail? Charlie?) in the upstairs hallway, who naturally recognizes Alice and wants to tell Dr. Bumby she’s back – Alice tries to tell them no, with Smiler backing her up by claiming they want to surprise him – Command, 3d (+1 for Smiler’s help, 1 stress for Smiler; +1 for pushing herself, 2 stress for Alice) – 5. The kid agrees not to go tell Dr. Bumby right now, but it’s clear that they will tell him the next time they see him… Start a “Bumby Shows Up” clock as a result, four pieces, none ticked so far
Into the office before Dr. Bumby shows up! Time to find that ledger… The trio split up – Alice examines the bookshelf, Victor checks Dr. Bumby’s desk, Smiler looks around for anything that might give them a clue as to where the ledger might be
Alice – Study, 2d (+1 for pushing herself, stress up to 4) – 6! She doesn’t find the ledger in the bookshelf, but she does find a book safe with some money in it – +1 Coin for the gang to take with them!
Victor: Study, 2d (+1 for pushing himself, 2 stress for Victor) – 5. Victor finds a secret drawer with a safe in it – but, well, unsurprisingly, it’s locked, and opening it will take a bit (+1 to the “Bumby Shows Up” clock, 3 segments left)
Smiler: Survey, 2d (+1 for pushing themselves, stress up to 3) – 6! While Victor finds the safe, Smiler notes the windows on the side of the office and determines that it would be safe for the group to exit via one of them if they had the appropriate means to do so – cue them going “good thing I brought some rope!” and setting it up for them to climb down (one load ticked for Smiler)
That safe looks like it’s important – shame it’s locked! Smiler offers to try and pick it (flashback to them finding some lockpicks in Elder Gutknecht’s library – as they have, or will have, the “Pack Rats” special ability as Shadows, I will let them squeak by with no stress for this – probably does count as load for them, so that’s a second slot ticked) as Alice and Victor keep watch for Bumby or other suspicious children – Tinker, 2d – 5. Smiler gets the safe open, but Alice hears what sounds like someone coming up the steps… (+1 to the “Bumby Shows Up” clock, 2 segments left)
However – safe is open, and there is indeed a ledger inside! A ledger that is very clearly about selling off children to pedos, and in fact contains some notes from Bumby about the work that he does...and how much Alice reminds him of Lizzie. Everyone is notably disgusted, and Alice angrily wishes that she could get that room key off him, but agrees that it’s better to try and escape. The ledger is thus shoved in the bag, and Victor closes up the safe and stores it back in the secret drawer, before the trio try to stealthily head down the rope leading outside –
Alice – Prowl, 1d – 6! Alice is shockingly stealthy and gets down like a fucking ghost
Victor – Prowl, 1d – 4. Victor is not so stealthy and hits the wall once – he doesn’t make THAT much noise, but it’s definitely noticeable… (+1 to the “Bumby Shows Up” clock, 1 segment left)
Smiler – Prowl, 1d (+1 for pushing themselves, stress up to 5) – 4. And Smiler is also not particularly stealthy, losing their balance as they get off the rope and falling over – just loud enough for someone to notice! (+1 to the “Bumby Shows Up” clock – full!)
And that someone is Bumby, who entered his office at just that moment, saw the rope hanging out of his window, and stuck his head outside to see Alice and two other people, one of whom is carrying a bag. He naturally assumes that she’s stolen SOMETHING from him (even if he doesn’t yet suspect it is his ledger) and starts yelling at her – Alice blasts him as an abomination and reveals that she knows exactly what he’s been doing. Bumby is first like “oh come on, who would believe–” And THEN it registers “wait, she’s here with two other people, SHIT SOMEONE BELIEVES HER” and scrambles out of the office himself on the rope. Fortune roll for how gracefully he gets down, 2d because I imagine he has decent Prowl to get kids to customers – 4. He gets down, but like Smiler he lands badly and is off-balance for a bit –
And Alice, seeing an opportunity, darts in and grabs his watch-chain, ripping Lizzie’s room key off it, while shoving the electroplasm bomb (tick one load for Alice) into his hands. As this is a must-win scene for the fanfic, this Skirmish, 2d roll is only to determine the consequences to her – 4. She gets the bomb in his hands before he can retaliate, and he goes up a treat...but unfortunately, poor June has come out of the kitchen, attracted by the noise, and promptly starts screaming as Bumby goes up, forcing the trio to flee VERY FAST (Smiler yelling “sorry!” behind them) – they are not a crew yet, but they will start being one with 1 Heat on their tracker as a result!
However, score is officially a SUCCESS! :D The trio run until they’re sure they’re not being pursued, then take a moment to celebrate their victory, with Alice being very happy that she was indeed able to kill the bastard (even if she accidentally traumatized her replacement – she’ll want to make up for that later if she can). Talk then turns to getting the ledger to someone who will be able to publicize Bumby’s misdeeds – And then someone says “Smiler?” nearby, and Smiler recognizes their parents! They run over for hugs and introduce Matt and Carol Alton to their new friends. Matt and Carol are very nice and warmly greet Victor and Alice – Alice, feeling a little guilty, apologizes for getting Smiler into some trouble and preventing them from coming home sooner. Matt and Carol are confused, so the trio explain the Barkis situation and the whole “turns out he was a Spirit Warden and the Bluecoats think we murdered him” thing – And Matt and Carol go, “Oh! No, the actual Spirit Wardens confirmed he was an imposter who killed one of their own and stole their kit, and that his corpse showed signs of being very recently possessed before it burned, so you’re in the clear!” Victor, Alice, and Smiler are a bit “…” over this, as you might imagine. Carol jokes that, “oh come on, it’s not like you killed anyone else, right?” [significant silence] “...right?” Fortunately, this is when Victor hands over the ledger, with Alice and Smiler explaining a bit more about what just happened – after a look inside, Matt and Carol are like, “Oh, yeah, that murder was TOTALLY justified, good job.” They tell them that they can send it onto a reporter of their acquaintance, the lady who runs Publick Occurrences, and that Victor and Alice can stay the night in the Ministry of Joy if they want. As the trio have spent two days since the end of “Start At The Beginning...Sort Of” living in a house with no running water or heat, in one set of clothes, they are more than amendable to this suggestion, and the story probably ends with them on the way to the MOJ.
Post-Score Summary And XP:
Alice:
Stress level before downtime actions – 4
+1 Coin
XP:
2 for addressing a challenge with violence or coercion (commanding the kid, killing Bumby)
2 for expressing her beliefs (protecting the children) and background (she was the former dogsbody at Houndsditch!)
1 for – less struggling with and more indulging her vice (Obligation to the children of Houndsditch!)
Total: 5 – put 3 in the Insight XP tracker, 2 in the Prowess XP tracker (Alice wants Hunt and Finesse)
Victor:
Stress level before downtime actions – 2
XP:
1 for expressing his background (trade, he was the one to know to look for a ledger in the first place)
Total: 1 – put it in the Playbook XP tracker
Smiler:
Stress level before downtime actions – 5
XP:
2 for addressing challenges both with deception (talking their way past June) and technical skill (picking the lock on the safe)
1 for expressing their beliefs (taking Bumby down makes the world a little bit happier)
Total: 3 – put 2 in the Insight XP tracker, 1 in the Prowess XP tracker (Smiler wants Study and Finesse)
Downtime Activities:
Alice:
House Rule – if a score serves as indulging a vice for a character, that character automatically gets 1 stress knocked off the tracker at the end – stress down to 3
Train Insight, +1 XP in that tracker (Alice is working toward Hunt – maybe she gets pulled into a game of tag with some of the younger members of the cult XD)
Train Prowess, +1 XP in that tracker (Alice is also working toward Finesse – does some drawing)
Victor:
Train Playbook, +1 XP (Victor talks to some of the Whispers in the cult, starts getting excited about being one despite himself)
Train Resolve, +1 XP (Victor might as well work toward another Attune dot)
Smiler:
Indulge Pleasure Vice – 4, stress down to 1 (entertains themselves and their new friends with some songs on their guitar)
Train Prowess, +1 XP in that tracker (Smiler is working toward Finesse, and playing the guitar works with THAT too)
#valicer in the dark au#storybuilding#blades in the dark#corpse bride#alice madness returns#the smiler#valicer#this was actually INCREDIBLY fun#I had a blast coming up with obstacles for them and making the rolls#admittedly this MIGHT be because the dice were kind XD#we'll have to see how I handle straight-up failed rolls in future scores#and I admit there was a little light fudging in spots#like not having anyone push themselves on the Prowl roll because I WANTED partial successes/failures#to fill up the 'Bumby Shows Up' clock#because I wasn't going to end the fic without him dead#but it all worked out!#even if poor June ended up traumatized#sorry about that!#she will be less traumatized once she learns what her employer was like#and Alice will probably find a way to apologize for that because damn#she did not mean to give June nightmares#as you can see though the XP totals were NOT kind to Victor#the problem is that you have specific XP triggers in BITD#and him 'expressing his trade background' by going for the ledger was the only one I could justify#sorry Victor but this WAS a very Alice-focused score#you will get more chances to earn more XP later!#queued

Psychiatrists are just people who weren't smart enough to become psychics.
Alice: You know, I will allow that, because maybe if Bumby had been psychic, he would have gotten it through his thick skull that Lizzie was genuinely not fucking interested in him. I don't know if it actually would have made a difference, but still.
#~M: I want some questions! now! (ask)#~M: grin without a cat (anon)#~V: Forgotten Vows#~T: We Are The Village Green Preservation Society#psychiatrists versus psychics#~C: Alice Liddell#((I regret to say it probably would not have made any difference at all Alice#other than him trying to use his psychic powers to force Lizzie to change her mind#because that is Bumby for you))#~M: with this hand I will lift your queue

i'm working on something
#obviously i gave alois the queensland dress because. it's red. the unfortunate associations are very alice. plus luka exists#i'd make him the queen#i still don't know how to alice-ify ciel's eyepatch#but ciel gets the dollhouse dress because funtom#i know the area is much more alois-coded but plot-wise ciel is a better fit#either way they're both going to all areas in this little AU because they're both taking alice's role#and. i mean. look at their backstories. sure alois is more of a lizzie liddell if you think about it but. i think he belonds in wonderland#btw yes making luka the queen and alois alice would make hannah bumby which is FUCKED. so idk about all that#we'll see. i'm just making this au so alois gets the hobby horse anyway...#gave him the hobby horse because it's very cute AND terrifying and fun brute force#while ciel gets the vorpal blade because first of all it's iconic. and also because of pure vibes. +sebastian butter knife reference#yes i have many thoughts about this alice AU this isn't HALF of them#i'm just now realising if you don't know alice madness returns (how???) this makes no sense#anyway#don't ask me how i'm making the first game fit in there#and let's not talk about asylum i'm still grieving#hihi#wip#my art

i keep looking at this and--
Me when I read this:
You know, for someone who calls them a fan, you sure do like disparaging Alice as a character.
"My family died of mysterious circumstances and the conclusion doesn't make any sense." Doesn't constitute as a character as "whining".
Her experiences are her past, Her past is an experience. The second game is about accepting memories, no matter how bad they are, are a part of herself. That's actually something you learn in trauma therapy.
Again, someone didn't pay attention to canon. We already know that some elements of the first game have been retconned and it's not a perfect story, but I think it's genuinely shitty to label a character as "whiny" when they're probing more to understand more about their past. If this person just thinks that one trip down to Wonderland is going to fix all of Alice's issues with major trauma and psychosis, they're wrong. Especially the latter if she suffers from psychosis.
Like, let's be realistic, here. If you're locked up in a place for ten years, especially during the most critical times of your emotional and physical development, it's going to mess you up. Alice was struggling when she left and several people exploited that. The way I see it, the first game was about accepting her family had died and she was growing up. The second was accepting she couldn't have changed what had happened and gotten over survivor's guilt as well as memories being a core part of her. As flawed as this game is and McGee has issues not retconning some of his work, it works because that's how trauma is. You will have ups and downs in the course of learning to accept what happened to it.
So calling Alice "whiny" or "selfish" is just so wrong, not only from a narrative perspective but also from her character. When she confronts Bumby at Moorgate Station, it's not about her, it is about the children who were being affected and passed out along Whitechapel, London. And if you're not familiar with the history of that area, it was known for trafficking, poverty, and prostitution, that's where Jack the Ripper was. Because Bumby was sadly right: nobody would believe Alice because of her history and when he tells her to leave, she has a change of heart, because she dares to stand up for not only herself and those kids.
Killing him wasn't an act of selfishness, it was the opposite. She could have given up and languished and become nothing, but she didn't. She almost did but Alice was too stubborn. And if this person paid attention to the dialogue enough, they would have seen Alice and Nanny being so critical of what's been happening in Whitechapel.
And... again, she has psychosis?! She was struggling to keep herself grounded and needed the help. She wasn't aware of what was going on sometimes because she struggled with her psychosis and that's a very real issue for some people with C-PTSD. It's done beautifully in "Hellblade". It's not perfect in these games, but it doesn't weaken her as a character, it makes her stronger. I didn't think that Alice seeking help for her psychosis was seen as "whiny". Like, come on, dude.
Did we even play the same games lmao.

I'm just curious is there anything that you have in common with alice liddell to make you the "irl alice liddell" other than looking like her? I see it appearance wise but I was just wandering if you actually relate to her as a person/character...
Yes!! A big reason why she means so much to me is because I have so much in common with her & I've felt such a deep connection to her character ever since I played the first Alice game.
Trigger warning! some of our similarities include very sensitive topics 💜
we both were sent away to Asylums
we both were abused / mistreated at the Asylums
I also had a toy rabbit that i loved dearly but was taken away from me when we were thrown out of our home (along with a lot of my other childhood belongings)
we both have a sister named Lizzie
we both have been manipulated and made to believe we were insane by people we trusted. for her it was Bumby and for me it was my own mother, sadly.
we both have experienced psychosis or hallucinations
we both have been given medication / treatment against our will
we both have self-harmed
we both have experienced extreme grief and survivor's guilt as a result of a loved one dying while we somehow did not.
we both have PTSD & are haunted by our trauma/past.
both of us have memories that are so painful that our brain actually forgot about them. like alice i did recover my memories but i went through dissociative amnesia for years.
we both are fond of animals
we both had a sibling who was r*ped (except in my case the person who did it also r*ped me too)
we both have used opium as a vice (except my form of it was modern day heroin)
though i never actually received shock therapy I was almost forced to undergo it because i had lost my rights to refuse treatment by being deemed "incapable of making my own medical decisions" and was scheduled for ECT treatments against my will. I was so terrified by what the patients looked like who were coming back from ECT (scabs on there upper forehead, some of them who became my friends couldn't even remember who i was, one woman had forgotten what her own daughter looked like!) and because i was so scared i ended up climbing the fence to escape the hospital while we were outside for "yard time". i am still so grateful that i made the decision to escape and i succeeded. even though i have bipolar disorder, i was only 19 and was way too young for ECT. and i later found out that many patients had been mistreated and medically abused at that same hospital. some of them had even died under "mysterious circumstances" i also had other horrific things happen to me there.
shout out to McClean Hospital! also/formerly known as Somerville Asylum and Charlestown Asylum!! if you know anyone who has attended this hospital then they most likely have some horror stories to tell.
but yeah i'm sure i have a lot more similarities with alice. these are just the things i could remember off the top of my head. her character means the world to me. hence why alice: madness returns is my ultimate comfort game. i also truly love the aesthetics in the game itself. i love bugs, rabbits, cats, strange creatures, fantastical things, the victorian era in general. so so much of what is displayed in the game is directly similar to my personal interests or IS one of my interests lol. i could go on and on about my love for the game and my love for alice but i think this post is already quite long so perhaps i should end it here😊

Recently, I've had one of those moments where my brain reminds me of something existing that I'm not sure many other people remember about, and that thing is American McGee's Alice [and, additionally, the sequel to that game, Madness Returns].
Two braincells collided here, because I've got mild Twisted Wonderland brainrot to go along with this reminder, and so inevitably my mind conjured up this: Riddle [or all of Heartslaybyul, if you're up for it. Individually, of course.] with a reader who is a lot like Alice, but instead of the expected Alice in Wonderland personality, they're the warped version we wind up with in American McGee's Alice.
For additional context, I've got some brief excerpts from the Wikipedias for both games:
"The game centers on the novels' protagonist Alice, whose family is killed in a house fire years before the story of the game takes place. After several years of treatment in a psychiatric clinic, the emotionally traumatized Alice makes a mental retreat to Wonderland, which has been disfigured by her injured psyche."
"Alice was discharged from a psychiatric clinic and now lives in an orphanage for mentally traumatized orphans under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby. To get rid of the trauma and learn the truth about her past, she once again falls into Wonderland, where a new evil force has corrupted it."
Bonus points if you feel like covering, touching on experiences near the beginning of the reader being present at NCR and potentially making an assumption of being ported off to some place like that Twisted version of Wonderland [haha] that they'd been in before, only to have to learn this is something very separate from that [the focus doesn't have to be on this obviously, especially not since there's not MUCH you can do with that, I don't think]
Yeah, hi, I was literally just about to go to bed when I saw this and thought "no, I'll do it in the morning" and then I COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT
I've never heard of this game before, but tbh, now I really want to play it! Sorry if it's messy, but I started thinking about Overblot Riddle, and then I just started typing away...
.....
𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮: After years of intensive treatment after a housefire, Reader is brought to Twisted Wonderland, and mistakes it for the Wonderland they've previously been trapped in mentally. Even after the realization of this different world, old scars still stay
𝙁𝙩: 𝙈𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙚, 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙮𝙪𝙡 𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨!

.·:*¨ ✘♚✘ ¨*:·.
You couldn't seem to escape it.
The Twisted Wonderland of your own mind.
You thought you were starting to get better, after the first incident. Or, at least, as better as someone in your situation could get. You had escaped the torment that your brain had cooked up. You learned to deal with your emotional scars, alongside the physical scars lining bits and pieces of your skin.
But then, the black mirror seemed to call out to you in your dream. It held such alluring promises, and the dark glass, rippling like some sort of soft river current, seemed to invite you to look through it once more. Without thinking twice about it, you stepped through the mirror, and found yourself trapped in another world.
.....
The shapes of the cards haunted your mind.
Ace, Spades, Clovers, Diamonds...they circled your brain in a make-believe dance. Refusing to leave.
Meeting Heartslabyul was the trigger for it all.
The small, seemingly innocuous symbols marked on their faces made your blood freeze. Paint the roses. Happy Unbirthday.
"OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"
The words made your skin crawl, and the burns etched on your skin began to ache, to jolt your brain into remembering.
.·:*¨ ✘♚✘ ¨*:·.
A happy little tea party, set in a field of bright green grass, unnaturally soft under your toes. The table set before you was piled with goodies, and a set of friendly faces sat around you, each carrying their own conversation. It was such a wonderful party.
But then the grass under your feet grew from a cooling sensation to a burning one. You stood up from your chair, and the motion sent you reeling back into reality.
Bright orange flames flickered around you, each one reaching out like the hand of a ghoul attempting to pull you down into the grave. You jumped out of your bed, crying in pain when your bare feet hit the carpet underfoot. Although it wasn't exactly carpet at that point; the plastic fibers in the fabric had melted and were boiling hot.
Despite the pain, and the terrifying feeling of the fire, you ran out of your room and out into the hallway, only to be met with the sight of your father laying on the ground mere feet away, face-down, one arm outstretched to the door of your room. His flesh had mostly melted away at that point, the charred bones in his skeleton peeking out from barely clinging-on skin. The only distinguishable feature was his silver wedding ring, now dulled to a flat gray.
Room by room you ran, despite the flames grabbing at your arms and legs, causing irreversible damage. Dead. Dead. Dead.
The Firemen who arrived on the scene first found you in the front yard, alone, passed out from smoke inhalation and pain.
You didn't wake up fully for several years after that.
.·:*¨ ✘♚✘ ¨*:·.
"IT'S OFF WITH THE HEADS OF ANYONE WHO DEFIES ME!"
Not even a whole week into your stay in this world, you were met with the horrifying fact that "overblots" existed.
Unfortunately for you, the very first was akin to the Queen of Hearts herself.
"Riddle, please, stop!" Trey yelled out, his skin glistening with sweat from exerting his own power in an attempt to block Riddle's signature spell.
Either oblivious to his friend's cries, or simply not caring enough to respond, Riddle raised his arms up and dropped a fist in a slamming motion, causing one of the rosebushes to uproot itself and leap towards those trying to save the Heartslabyul leader.
You dropped to the ground, hands covering your ears as you shut your eyes tightly. At the first sight of Riddle, at his transformation, everything had ceased to be. Your progress in recovering, your calm demeanor towards this "Twisted Wonderland", your semi-friendly actions towards the students who sneered at you, and even your attempts at befriending the Heartslabyul members. It all came crashing down, and all you could feel was the ghost of of a fire encircling your body, and the quick flashed of those in your own twisted Wonderland coming back to haunt you.
You couldn't escape them, could you?
"Hey, HEY!" Someone put a hand on your shoulder, causing you to scream and jerk away. You opened your eyes in panic, which allowed you another glimpse of the Ruthless Tyrant, and only made you panic more, your chest heaving from gasped breaths.
The man who had touched you looked concerned- and rightfully so- at your wide eyes, paled skin, and wet eyes "Hey, stay with us, please," Ace begged "We need all the help we can get."
But you would be no help here.
You gave one final look to the Blotted Riddle...surprisingly, he looked back at you, his eyes narrowed with hatred and disgust.
They looked just like her eyes...
Everything went dark.
.·:*¨ ✘♚✘ ¨*:·.
Riddle sat in a chair next to the mysterious student's bed, his gaze focused on a small piece of hair laying on the floor underfoot. He looked like shit, to say the least. He held bags under his eyes, and his skin was several shades paler than it normally was. He had just been released by the nurse a day ago, following the incident with his overblotting.
There was a slight shuffling sound, and Riddle looked up hopefully, expecting to see you awake and fine. But no such luck. It was only your shoulder twitching in your sleep.
Riddle would be lying if he said he wasn't interested in you from the beginning. The sheer amount of terror in your eyes as you stepped foot into the Heartslabyul's territory (as told to him from Ace) was something to behold. And, also according to Ace and Deuce, you had some....issues...with cards and a certain "Wonderland". And he felt like shit about it all. He had known, even from just a gut feeling, that there was something going on with you. He could tell that much just from looking at the deep, darkened burn scars that flashed underneath your sleeved, that showed whenever the leg of your pants raised up a little bit above your ankle.
And he had played into that terror. He had made you get worse, and you were still in the nurse's office, recovering from the "incident".
"I'm sorry," he said softly, reaching out a hand to pat your arm gently. An apology was all he could muster at the moment.
But, to be sure, he would make up for everything when you woke up.
If you woke up.

Okay, I need to do a silly rant RRRRIGHT NOW!!!!!!
LET'S BE HONEST HERE! AMERICAN MCGEE'S ALICE AND ALICE MADNESS RETURNS ARE THE MOST UNDERRATED GAMES IN EXISTENCE!
Just think about the games. Ama has amazing gameplay and it's actually decently difficult (or maybe I just suck)! Amr has SO MUCH lore abt Alice!! Like it actually explains her backstory and it shows how the fire actually happened! It kinda confuses me why the cat caused the fire in the first game, but maybe it's trying to show that Alice wasn't sure what happened and she just assumed it was the cat and since I'm assuming she was a kid or something when this happened (because of the fact she was reading Alice in Wonderland), so she wouldn't fully remember what happened. Also, the asylum was having her forget about her traumas so her memory was a bit different. She started realizing the truth in the second game. Like how she was like "Wait a minute, Dinah was in my room! So how could she have started the fire?" LIKE OMGG!! Honestly, Dr. Bumby was a good villain for the story. I think since this was the 1800s, women didn't have a lot of rights and they were treated VERY badly by everyone in society, so I think human trafficking would be a lot more common. It'd make sense for a villain in that type of game to be a trafficker. I think both games are also just beautiful. Amr especially. The visuals are just AMAZING! It gives such a weird but soothing feeling. Same with the OST! I don't know what it is, but the Vale of Tears makes me feel so calm and relaxed. Ama's OST is also BEAUTIFUL! Like, have you HEARD Wonderland Woods?! Literal masterpiece!! It gives you an eerie but nice feeling!! But some are a tad bit spooky. Like the song that plays in the chess map.. If you play that, I am RUNNING away. LIKE OMG?? It's so CREEPY!! LIKE THE BACKWARDS HOG?! NUH UH!! And don't even get me started on Time to Die... IT MAKES ME FEEL SO SCARED BUT IT'S SO FITTING!!! For those that don't know, Time to Die plays in one of the last parts of the game. You're at the Queen of Hearts' castle. Looking for her throne. Her card guards are chasing after you, trying their best to murder you. And when it's quiet and you can just hear the OST.. IT MAKES SENSE!! IF THAT WAS YOU, AFTER YOU DEFEATED A BIG GROUP OF GUARDS, YOU'D BE UNSETTLED!! SCARED!! ON YOUR TOES!! AND THAT'S WHAT THAT SONG MAKES ME FEEL!! IT ALL MAKES SENSE AND IT'S ALL SO POETIC!! LIKE I THINK THE MAIN MESSAGE OF AMA IS THAT SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LOOK IN YOURSELF TO FIND THE PROBLEM! BECAUSE THE FINAL BOSS WASN'T EVEN THE QUEEN OF HEARTS, IT WAS ALICE HERSELF!!!! LIKE SHE HAD TO DEFEAT HERSELF TO FIX WONDERLAND!!! IT'S JUST SO AMAZING!! Also, just a little comment.. ALICE SLAYED WHEN SHE PUSHED BUMBY INTO THAT TRAIN! He honestly got what he deserved. That nasty pedophilic asshole. I think the main message of amr is to be careful who you trust and surround yourself with. I mean, THINK ABOUT IT!! She worked with a HUMAN TRAFFICKER!!! I also think it sends a message that justice is always possible no matter what. There's always a way to avenge somebody or something even if it's a bit immoral. Overall, I LOVE THIS GAME!! Sorry I ranted this much! This was like the first game I fell in love with in 2012 or 2013 I think!! BYEE!! :33

First Burn: Ch4 End of Summer (American McGee's Alice/Lies of P)
P went downstairs in the morning to greet the children, Mrs. Sharpe, Otto and Mrs. Seymour. He stood in the aisle and smiled as he saw the children and Otto stuffing themselves with still warm bread and jam.
“Good morning,” he said, and the children responded in chorus, some of them, like Otto, with their mouths full.
He felt hands on his waist, and when he turned around, he saw Alice beaming with a wide smile on her face, which he returned, looking closely at her face.
She looked different somehow. Her cheeks were pinker, her eyes seemed more expressive, and her lips were the color of fresh strawberries.
He blinked several times, unable to utter a word for a moment.
Alice was pretty — in a completely different way than Sophia, who was as beautiful as a butterfly — delicate and sheer. Or Eugnie, who was just like Spring — charming and delightful.
Both Mrs. Seymour and Alice were as beautiful as something dangerous. Mrs. Seymour was like a scorpion among flowers — she was inaccessible and constantly glancing warningly at the gentlemen milling around, and yet, although she was not a common beauty, attracted all these curious men — like belladonna and aconite. Alice, on the other hand, was like the blade of a foil — even while walking, he saw men admiring her, but none of them dared to approach her.
Maybe it was his fault, but he was sure that her sharp look would effectively scare away even the most persistent men.
But now he had the impression that she was even prettier. The makeup on her face highlighted everything he liked about her — her big green eyes, pale skin, and lips.
When he finally found his tongue in his mouth, he grunted and put his hands behind his back.
“You look beautiful,” he mumbled, as if unconsciously, and the children, Otto, even Mrs. Sharpe, looked at them with interest.
“Thank you,” she glared at him, “you too.”
Charlie and Otto looked at each other, making surprised faces; at least until Alice looked at them scoldingly.
“Be quick with this food, because the orphanage still needs to be decorated. Mr. Mitchell will arrive in less than three hours.” She grabbed P's hand and looked at him. “Will you help me take down the remaining decorations?”
“I'll just put Gemini away.”
Gemini didn't protest. P just put him on the table next to Otto and he and Alice went to the attic where there were a lot of old things.
Some were old clothes that the children had outgrown long ago. Others include furniture, frames, old sofas and armchairs; P suspected that it was from the time when Dr. Bumby was the director of the orphanage.
He saw a frame standing with the canvas against the wall. He grabbed it and turned it around, seeing that the canvas was cut diagonally and there was a burnt scorpion on the board.
He pursed his lips and looked at Alice, who was reaching for the box of decorations. He smoothed out the canvas, noticing the children standing around the middle-aged man.
“So this is Angus Bumby?”
Alice looked at him and moved closer. He saw her face tense, just like it did when all those women showed up at the orphanage.
“He is.”
“The biggest dick in England.” They turned around, noticing Mrs. Seymour, who must have just entered the attic. “I mean, not literally, but… figuratively.” She grabbed the oversized basket and smiled at them.
P looked decidedly confused.
“What happened to him?” he asked, and Alex blew a strand of hair out of her face and gave him another wide smile.
“Like any sociopath with a superiority complex, he thought he was doing the world a favor by hurting other people. I just had to show him how wrong he was.”
“Alex prefers to take decisive measures,” Alice explained, exchanging knowing glances with Mrs. Seymour.
Mrs. Seymour left the attic and Alice handed P one of the boxes; she took the second one herself and they both carried it downstairs, setting it in the living room next to the sofa and looking through what was suitable and what wasn't. After the children and Otto helped Mrs. Sharpe clean up, they immediately started helping decorate the downstairs.
Alice set about creating an altar on which the basket of offerings would later be placed. P and Otto hung decorations that would appear on high — wall hangings, cutouts and small wreaths made of ears of grain. The children, however, took everything they could put up and hang low.
Just before eleven, Mrs. Seymour came downstairs, asking with amusement that the children should be careful. She carried a huge basket of apples, plums, cranberries, ears of grain, sunflowers, bread and wine, all decorated with gold, yellow, orange and red ribbons with a white lace doily which Mrs. Seymour used to line the basket.
Mrs. Seymour walked up to the altar and everyone stood in a circle and held hands. P did it too, with some hesitation. He watched everyone else, they stood with their heads slightly bowed. Mrs. Seymour whispered something as she placed the basket on the altar, lit the candles, and drew an unusual symbol on the wall with chalk. She then grabbed the skirts of her dress and bowed. Only then could they let go of their hands.
P was terribly confused, but also intrigued.
The children dispersed as soon as Mrs. Seymour said they could return to their work, Otto, hearing that Mrs. Sharpe was going to work on the sunflower cake, went to help, hoping to nibble something while preparing, and Alice and P sat down at Gemini.
“I don't fully understand what just happened.”
“Providing gifts to the helping spirits of this place along with requests. Alex believes that every person has at least one spirit that guides them through life and helps them achieve their goals. Each of us thought of something they should stand up for or help us with. Alex is always asking for further spiritual development, and from sabbath to sabbath her skills and knowledge grow, even despite her attention deficit and hyperactivity. Sometimes also about prosperity and happiness for us. The children said they wanted to be happy.”
P had to admit that, despite living in an orphanage, they all seemed happy and full of life. He overheard Charlie and Abigail talking about how they hoped they would never be adopted unless by Mrs. Seymour.
And when Alice talked about attention deficit and hyperactivity, he finally understood what was happening to Mrs. Seymour. Bitten cuticles around nails, playing with jewelry, forgetfulness, irregular handwriting.
He wondered what else could come from this.
“Nan has been asking for her health recently, especially since her previous job severely damaged it. She feels better. It's hard for me to say what she asked for this time.”
“I wonder what Otto asked for.”
“I can guess, but I'm not sure.”
"What?"
“I know he wants acceptance, but I don't know if he asked for it.”
P wondered why he may not be accepted.
“He can be safe here; it would be a sick concept if it were not accepted in our circle; especially since Alex is facing the same, let's call it, problem.”
“I guess I don't quite understand.”
“I'm sure he'll tell you someday.”
There was a moment of silence as P wondered if he should ask her.
“What did you ask for?”
She scanned his face and tucked her leg under her, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“For prosperity…you know what.”
He nodded, understanding what she meant.
“And you? What did you ask for?” She rested her head on her hand.
“I didn't ask. I was too…confused.”
Alice parted her lips, then grabbed the apple and handed it to him.
“We can fix it. While holding the apple, think about what you wish for, then put the apple in the basket, say thank you and bow.”
“Do you think this will work?”
“Everything indicates that Alex's abracadabra is working. Or, for the unbelievers, the placebo effect. Either way, you can try. If it works, that's great. If it doesn't work, you won't get hurt anyway.”
He pursed his lips and glanced at Gemini.
“Try it, at worst nothing will happen.”
P rose and, standing in front of the altar, pressed the apple to his chest. He closed his eyes and lowered his head, thinking about how much he wanted to finally be a real human. Who feels hungry, can try food and drinks, who can get really tired, feel drops of sweat on his face after hard exercise, or get bloody when he cuts himself with a knife.
He then placed the apple on the pile of others and silently thanked, bowing.
The fire from one of the candles suddenly glowed brighter and swayed, as if there was a draft somewhere nearby.
P looked at Alice, who was smiling in his direction.
“And what now?”
“You can sit down,” she replied with amusement.
It was shortly after twelve when there was a knock on the door. Alice immediately got up from the couch where she was sitting with P and Otto, and with a joyful squeal she threw herself at the neck of a man with curly blond hair, a dark purple coat and a subdued orange vest.
Alice was about to call out to Mrs. Seymour, but before she could open her mouth, they heard Mrs. Seymour running down the hall and then almost flying down the stairs to fall into the man's arms, also throwing her arms around his neck and letting him lift her body slightly.
“You don't even know how much I missed you.”
“We saw each other less than a month ago,” he said with amusement.
“And what about this? You were supposed to come more often.”
The man set Mrs. Seymour on the floor.
“I need to introduce someone to you.” She entered the living room with the man, and P rose from his seat. “Jacob, please meet Pinocchio, our new charge. P, please meet Jacob Mitchell, my almost-brother, lecturer at Oxford University, formerly at Cambridge.”
Jacob extended his hand towards P, and he grabbed it, and they both shook it with small smiles on their faces.
“Welcome to the family, P.”
To the family.
P's smile widened and Alex grabbed Jacob's hand, pulling him upstairs.
“Come on, Jake, I have some hot tea.”
Jacob's eyes widened, and his lips quirked into an interested smile. They both disappeared upstairs, and Alice and P looked at each other and laughed.
“I don't remember anyone making tea,” he finally said, and Alice shook her head.
“Because it's not about the tea you drink, you silly. She meant gossip.”
“Gossip?”
“You've just met the biggest gossip duo this side of the Thames. Congratulations,” Otto replied, and P looked at Alice, who covered her laughing face with her hand.
Mrs. Seymour and Mr. Mitchell were a duo unlike any he had ever seen. He had never met two people who got along so well; they shared their sense of humor — although it was extremely silly — they talked about everything that came to their tongues and even teased each other with the same affection.
Alice grabbed his arm, following the rest of them towards the garden. There was a huge fire burning there, blankets and thermoforms were hung on the garden furniture, there were a guitar and an accordion next to two chairs, and in a moment Mrs. Sharpe was to bring mulled wine, tea, sunflower cake, plum tarts, and then apples with cinnamon.
P felt a strange feeling in his stomach as soon as he smelled all the smells from the kitchen. Everything smelled so sweet, caramelly and slightly spicy.
Mrs. Seymour introduced him to Mrs. Isabelle Wingrave.
They both seemed to feel terribly intimidated by their new acquaintance, but P felt a little more confident when Alice was with him, and Mrs. Wingrave when Mrs. Seymour and Mr. Mitchell appeared at her side.
Inez and Diggie argued about seats, each of them hoping for easy access to the sweets, and only one of them could sit next to Mrs. Seymour, next to whom the sweets were to be placed.
Eventually, Mr. Mitchell moved the wicker sofa so that the two of them could sit together.
“Too bad I can't eat any of this,” he muttered, and Alice grabbed his hand.
“I'm sure you'll be able to someday. Now, just enjoy the chants and conversations.”
And the chants started a moment later. Mr. Mitchell played the accordion and Mrs. Seymour played the guitar, singing a lively song perfect for dancing — and sure enough, some of the children decided to dance. Otto embraced him and Alice, swaying and singing with Alice along with Mrs. Wingrave, Seymour, and Mr. Mitchell.
At the end there was applause, and after a while another song was played, to which Otto led Mrs. Wingrave and Alice. Their mid-length dresses swirled as Otto tried to lead them both while singing.
He saw Alice extend her hand to him. He felt a strange cold in his stomach. He shook his head, only for Alice to turn hers urgently.
She just wanted him to have fun.
She walked up to him, taking his hand, and then the song ended, and a street musician who often stood in the area and played his violin stuck his head out from behind the wall of the orphanage building.
“May I do so, Miss Seymour?”
“Of course! There's always enough seats, and we need one more instrument.”
He smiled and sat down to the side, starting to play.
“There's no turning back now,” Alice told him and P sighed, nodding.
Paradoxically, it was Alice who led him more than he led her. He didn't feel completely confident yet, he didn't know what the melody line of the song was. Everything was changed by Alice's encouraging smile that played across her lips as she sang, as if to him. He felt more confident as he took over the lead of the dance from her, making her laugh delightfully.
The children were not at all embarrassed, jumping, dancing with each other and in a circle. Occasionally he saw them whispering to each other, but Alice's warmth and the weight of her body in his arms distracted him.
“Now, let’s go for one! And now let's go drink wine!” Nan announced, emerging with a cart filled with mulled wine and still hot cinnamon apples.
The same sound and feeling coming from his stomach again.
“Has anyone developed an appetite?” Nan asked, and P lowered his head, embarrassed.
“I can't eat.”
“Try it,” Charlie suggested. “At worst, someone will fix you.”
Nan handed him one of the apples with a spoon and poured mulled wine into a mug.
P felt stressed; and then everything was fine. One bite at a time and one sip at a time.
He looked towards the window, which showed a piece of the altar. The familiar bluish light that only he seemed to see glowed softly.
Then he looked at Mrs. Seymour — she was smiling as if she saw it too.

Thank you for your request!!
Since there wasn’t anything specified I thought I would take my own creativity and create a short POV story! I hope you enjoy it 🌸

Alice Liddells realisation
Through Alice’s time in wonderland, she had spent the majority of it figuring out her past, the poor girl was haunted by her memories of the fire. She was adamant it was all her fault and tried to plead guilty the first few months at Rutledge asylum but in the end. She was just another patient for them to feed off financially.
Alice awoke once more from her sweat ridden bed in a state of panic and despair, another nightmare, she put her feet on the cold wooden floor and closed her eyes. “Centaurs in Oxford, lizzie’s sleep talking, the library’s fire, Dinah, centaurs centaurs cENTAURS CENTAURS” Alice’s eyes shot open as she gritted her teeth. Her memories cleared and she remembered her nightmare. Clear as day, there stood Lizzie. Draped in a red gown, surrounded by oozing tentacles and a variety of human remains. The stench was potently retched and she stood before her once inviting and sweet older sister. Now displayed a foul Queen of hearts, Alice felt inferior to her sister, a feeling she had never felt before.
One quote from Lizzie stuck with Alice as she spoke “Centaurs don’t live in Oxford, and that wasn’t Lizzie talking in her sleep”. Alice thought and thought about that quote for a moment before her head started spinning and she felt nauseated, she took some deep breaths and slowly sat up from her bed. She looked over to the corner of her room towards her mirror, her nightgown draped over her malnourished and pale body, her hair swept to one side and placed neatly on her shoulder. Alice walked towards her wardrobe and set out her daily work wear, her black skirt, black and white striped long sleeved top, her black tights and lastly her apron. Everything was either ripped or stained but she didn’t mind because in her dreams she can wear beautiful gowns and dresses all she pleases. Alice was a fan of daydreaming, until the fire. Now it seems all of her daydreams turn into nightmares or hallucinations.
Once dressed and her hair was brushed Alice walked out of her bedroom and across the hall, the children mocking her as she walked. It was a daily routine for the children to be rude and disrespectful towards Alice, despite all her hard work to look after them and keep them from getting hurt. Somewhere deep inside Alice she enjoyed seeing the children happy, sometimes on a Sunday she would sit with them and make toys and drawings with them. Until one of them gets taken away by him.
Angus Bumby. A therapist and father figure to many of the children in this dump they call an orphanage. She hated him, she didn’t know why. But she knew something wasn’t right, however she still continued to get help and run errands for him.
Alice went on about her day, sweeping the children’s rooms and whistling to herself all while thinking of her nightmare. “ALICE” a voice boomed around the room towards her ears in a sharp tone. She whipped her head around with an annoyed look on her face and realised the tall skinny figure in the doorway was in fact Dr. Angus Bumby. “Yes? Sir”. She put her head down in fear. She may of hated him but she was terrified. “Follow me to my office. Please.” He waved his hand gesturing for Alice to follow him. She did as he asked and walked behind him like a lost puppy. As they stepped into his office, the smell of stale books and smoke from outside hit her. She let out a small cough and sat down in the chair. “Sir, i don’t believe i have to forget today” she looked up to lanky man leaning against his desk. He looked down “no no. None of that today Alice, I merely require an errand for you to run”. Alice let out an annoyed huff and crossed her arms “and what, prey tell would you like me to do?” Dr. Bumby put one hand into his jacket pocket and pulled out a variety of different keys on one ring. He sorted through them and Alice studied them very carefully up until she noticed one, one that stood out to her. One that she had seen before.
“Lizzie…” she breathed out and looked at Dr. Bumby with a face that could only be described as disgusted with fear. “What nonsense are you mumbling about this time Alice?” He was taken back a bit when Alice stood up and snatched the keys out of his hand, quickly rummaging them to get to her sisters bedroom door key. “THIS IS LIZZIES KEY” she held it up in front of his face. All in a flash, the memories came back. “…the centuars. Lizzie was right. Oxford doesn’t have… centaurs… she wasn’t sleep talking. The shadow. The key. YOU” she looked towards Bumby and stood up. She may of been shorter than him but in the moment of pure anger and disbelief she didn’t bare that in mind much.
Alice clutched her stomach as her breathing got heavier and quicker. Tears filled her eyes. “You did it. I TRUSTED YOU. AND YOU DID IT…”. She stood there. Mindlessly while her thoughts raced through her mind.
I lived with him
I took advice from him
I was under the same roof with my sisters attacker
The children. Oh the children.
“You monster”
To be continued….
Thank you so much for this request! I had a lot of fun writing it!! If anyone wants a continued version of my little story please let me know!

In your bio, wdym by "irl alice liddell"? Like, you look like her(which you definitely do) and/or you act like her? Or some other reason?
i mainly put it there because ppl always tell me i look like her lol 😂 but aside from looks i do have a lot in common with her. we both were sent to asylums against our will. we both have experienced psychosis and trauma. we both have a sister named Lizzie. Both our sisters named lizzie experienced the same kind of abuse that bumby put lizzie through, except in my case he did it to me too. i am older than my sister lizzie so i tried to protect her by opening up about the abuse to my mom. judging by alice's wonderland in the game, i'm assuming its made out of her own interests and things that pertain directly to her. its pretty obvious considering the heavy symbolism associated with it. based on that assumption i think its safe to say we both like bugs, teeth, etc. the vale of tears and the doll house levels are literally what the inside of my brain looks like. me and alice both tried to stop our abusers and both our abusers had other children as their victims. me and alice were both manipulated into thinking we were insane by multiple people in our lives. in my case it was my mother, doctors, and my abuser. we both love cats lol 😂 though i never received shock therapy, ppl did try to force me into receiving it because i lost the right to make my own medical decisions. i ran away before they actually could go through with the procedure. we both were abused/mistreated at mental asylums by corrupt/cruel healthcare workers. we both used opium as a "vice". we both have a toy rabbit 😂😂
its actually insane how much i have in common with her. thats why its my comfort game🖤 its really therapeutic to play a game as someone who went through the same experiences i did and be ale to get revenge on her abuser and finally begin to heal from it. because sadly my own abuser only got 3 years in prison for ruining my life and my sister's life. i have really bad anxiety/ptsd and most of my mental health issues stem from being abused as a child. I play alice: madness returns when i'm feeling upset or overwhelmed and it helps me immensely 🥰
another huge way i relate to her character is the wonderland part. like many ppl with ptsd i have always sort of retreated into my own little world when going through a traumatic experience. i even wrote stories about it and drew pictures about a place i made up when i was a kid. i would literally stay up late at night crying because i was so devastated that it wasn't real and that i was really trapped here forever😭 even as an adult i sometimes go back to that little safe spot in my brain when everything is just too much to handle mentally. 🧠⛈️
anyway, i'm sure there may even be more stuff i have in common with alice, but those are the major things i noticed when i first played alice: madness returns and american mcgee's alice🖤

Poets of the Fall - Lift (Official Video w/ Lyrics) by Poets of the Fall (Official)
Was looking for a Song Saturday for this week, decided to go through my Poets of the Fall tag, and found that the video I'd used on my original post for their song "Lift" had gone walkabout! Well, THAT wasn't going to do, so here's the new version, with an official video from the official band's account that is thus unlikely to disappear on us. I still really like this song (as I like all their songs), and I still associate it with the "Catch Us If You Can" verse in my head. Specifically, it's the song for when Alice busts Victor out of Rutledge, and the two of them end up killing the Monroes and fleeing in the middle of a massive rainstorm. Such great Dark Valice feels. :D
#song saturday#poets of the fall#lift#valice#catch us if you can#no Valicer variant this time#this one has been claimed by the murder duo#...I mean admittedly I HAVE thought of a Valicer variant on that verse#where Smiler contracts the two to kill their father Dr. Kelman because well evil psychiatrist#and either it's one of those 'Victor was in a relationship with Smiler previously and forgot because of Bumby's memory shenanigans' things#or the pair just end up close with Smiler and the duo becomes a trio#but this particular song is tied too closely to Alice breaking Victor out of Rutledge for the Valicer vibes#still a really good song#Poets of the Fall is a great band and I love pretty much every song of theirs that I've heard :)#queued

Are you happy that we finally got the full sped up footage of the Clayhill Pilot & why it can't be shown to the public or does it make the eight year wait even more pointless & painful than it already was when what we really needed was the reasons why it couldn't been shown to begin with? Also, do you really hate DHMIS now because of what the fandom & TV series did to you through or have you just lost interest in it?
Honestly, I’m really happy we finally got an answer for why the Pilot can’t be release. That being said I would still like to see the full thing in HD someday, but that day probably won’t be anytime soon. Wish they would have just said that publicly sooner rather than beating around the bush for literal years.
And the reason I kinda dislike dhmis as a series is kinda of a mix of those reasons. I have been disrespected one too many times by this fandom, having no one to turn to because all the other popular dhmis tumblr blogs kinda just didn’t like me all that much either and ignored me, that looking at dhmis kinda makes me feel sick to my stomach. It took me a while to even join in another fandom space (not telling you which one) but I did, and everyone is really nice to me and shows me the respect that I feel everyone should deserve. I haven’t really interacted or seen much of dhmis so I’ve had time to think and realized, “yeah maybe this isn’t my cup of tea anymore”
Granted I became obsessed with dhmis when I was an angry teenager that had been through Hell, and now that I’ve been an adult for years and kinda smoothed out my bumby ass road, my likes and dislikes have kinda changed.
I’ve changed, just like how dhmis has changed as a series, and there’s nothing anyone can really do to fix that.
#hope that answers your questions#cosmicxd#cosmicspeaks#dhmis#don’t hug me I’m scared#anon#cosmicanswers#ask

If you left the fandom ages ago, why do you still lurk around it or why do you even own an account about it? Genuine question.
I'm only using it now to lurk around other fandoms because Tumblr is a dogshit broken site and they don't allow you to see the entire site without being logged in to some account, and I won't create an entire new account just to see fanart. Amr and Bumby used to be one of my hyperfixations for 2/3 years, and I did dumb soyjak memes about it, but the fandom is dead, and my interest in the game and characters died too. I hope that explains it bro.

The thing with the Alice x Bumby ship and people who support it not only don't understand the ramifications of what Bumby did to Alice and that it's pretty obvious he was continuing with his obsession with Lizzie.
Alice looks very much like her older sister and shares personality traits with Lizzie. So Alice would have ended up the same as Lizzie, assaulted and murdered. Because in terms of the type of serial offender Bumby is, the likelihood of him repeating the same crime was extremely high.
But also they don't understand that Bumby was not only targeting Alice but children, something that you can see in actual, real-life serial offenders like the Golden State Killer, Ted Bundy, or even Richard Ramirez. These were sexual sadists, Bumby is also a sexual sadist. Not to mention, Bundy worked in a suicide prevention call center so I don't know how you cannot draw the comparison.
So, I have had the term "anti" thrown at me, and normally, genuinely, I'm of the mind "I don't like this ship, so I'm not going to read it" because policing people over fictional ships is a waste of time. And I'll be the first to admit I especially hate this ship because I HAD several Bumbys in my life. I was sexually abused as a little girl, so I especially hate this character. And we do have several CSA survivors in fandom, they have had the same feelings. If you're writing a ship that mirrors our trauma, yeah, it's gonna piss people off. But I'm not gonna be mad enough to throw out death threats.
However.
And this is a big HOWEVER.
Largely, the biggest reason as to why I don't like it because anyone who dabbles in this ship cannot manage to keep it IC (in character). They fundamentally don't understand Alice's characterization:
1. Alice is an extremely guarded individual, literally anyone around her treats her like a burden, object, or belittle her sense of being.
2. It's highly unlikely Alice is going to romantically gush over someone, much less someone she put into a position of a mentor, so the swooning doesn't make any sense to me. If you're writing Alice in a romantic relationship, you have to keep in mind that it probably took a WHILE. When I write Alice in romantic relationships, it's a slow burn build up.
3. She likely is very reluctant to share the burden of her mental illness (unless slow burn, see above), so, again, Alice is not going to be the how to open up to people so easily.
4. Alice is extremely independent, most times. You can see she'd rather do it herself, without help unless it's a necessity, and she puts more trust in herself than in people. So, it wouldn't make sense for Alice to open up to Bumby, a doctor, outside of a patient.
And like. These shippers tend to "woobify" Bumby. He's not gonna be chivalrous.
1.He's a sociopath, so his empathy is non-existent. He didn't see Lizzie as a person, he saw her as an object he was entitled to.
2. He showed little regard to Mr. Liddell, his superior, someone he kept going to see, as his mentor. He exploited that dynamic only on the account of Lizzie.
3. The man has a superiority complex, so he won't see anyone as his equal. His ego was too big and he was so full of himself and he underestimated Alice (like everyone else) and doesn't care for her, at all.
So, every time I see this ship pop up, these characters are so woefully OOC (out of character) and that shows me you didn't understand the source material.
If you're into a dark ship, that's fine, but you're essentially re-writing characters so far from the original source material that they may as well be your own characters. You can find a dark ship with Alice, but pick someone better than Bumby. Like, guys, Bumby would have done the same thing he did to Lizzie to Alice and Alice found out at the last minute before he had the chance.
Just saying as an Alice RPer.
