the key tip to avoiding lis ship wars is just understanding that maybe love is a complex thing that canât be confined to a label or a relationship and that people can love multiple people at once in different ways that are either the same intensity or not, and maybe thatâs okay, maybe the love that feels calmer is just as much of a gift as the love that feels burning hot. maybe chloe loved rachel the way max loved chloe but maybe chloe has always loved max first ( messily, sometimes badly ) and thatâs all that matters. maybe max will always love chloe but can also love other people as much as her ( safi, maybe amanda and / or vinh ) and that doesnât inherently devalue what chloe and max had, or what max has with other people now. maybe max loved kate, maybe chloe now loves victoria, maybe max feels a cocktail mix of loathing and love for nathan fucking prescott of all people or something and thatâs all interesting and valid. maybe thereâs no labels for anything max feels, or chloe feels, or what rachel felt ( someone who canonically had multiple relationships, and someone who was accused of cheating by the fandom or not loving anyone at all because of it ), and maybe thatâs infinitely more profound and beautiful than soulmate talk or endgame ship bullshit. idk! i just feel like lis dynamics are so, so fun and beautiful and are such a hoot to explore if you stop being so heteronormative about everything and just embrace the inherent humanity and queerness of these dynamics. some of them are toxic and thatâs ok baby!!! and some of them are complicated and thatâs sexy. maybe some of them are poly and maybe some of them are committing psychosexual crimes on each other via telepathy but who cares!! lets have fun in this bitch!!
#my posts.#tired of ship wars you can have so much fun with dynamics if you just try#as someone who didnât like chloe/max because of how the fandom treated it for years i can safely say im so fond of it now in my own way#because i know max loves chloe so much and chloe loves max so much and even if they breakup that never changed#they do not have to be girlfriends to be in love forever. and maybe theyâll always be apart physically but that doesnât diminish anything#etc etc ⊠yes theyâre toxic and guess what de making them out to be that way made me FALL in love with them#i love messiness!!! i love breakups!!!! i love the fact theyâll always be max and chloe even when theyâre moving on !!!#and i love max recreating that intense love with safi. and falling for vinh and amanda in different ways#and at the same time depending!!!#i love her relationship with moses and i love safiâs relationship with moses and vinh and maya#i love that max loved warren and chloe during the first game and maybe she loved chloe so much more but#that didnât mean her love for warren wasnât important. she thought it still was#and yes she kisses warren potentially and they never end up together and thatâs BEAUTIFUL baby!!!#human relationships are so complicated and different and complex and i love it#once fandom learns that you can acknowledge every ship and love felt without demonizing any ⊠life will be so sweet#anyway. love. yeah!#no dynamic is the exact same as another and thatâs FUN!! yeah.

Why Chloe Deserved A Miraculous
Its a thought that's been stewing in my head and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was true. Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
From a Doylist Perspective.
When there is conversations of if Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous is always presented from a Watsonian perspective. For those who don't know, Watsonian means the perspective of someone inside the story. A character. Doylist is the perspective of those in the real world. The author and audience.
The problem I see from fandom discourse is how often people don't actually consider the tools in a story. Often they take a Watsonian perspective, talk about what is right and sensible and should be how things work if this was a real situation. But the thing about stories is they have messages. They have tools and metaphors and themes to help display these messages. Sure, shows are about entertainment, but a story always has some kind of point. It may not be a moral lesson, it may not be some grand philosophy, but any story worth telling says SOMETHING. It takes a stance. The Fast and the Furious is all about doing cool stunts with cars, but it also has a message of doing things for family because if you just want to see cool car stunts, just go watch cool car stunts, but no, people want at least a little humanity in the car stunts, so there is a message of family. Sharing is caring, do your best, the heat death of the universe comes for us all, the messages can be vast, but there's some point of emotional reality to invest us in this specific media.
If we talk about Chloe and the Miraculous from a Watsonian perspective, no, she is not entitled to a Miraculous. No one is entitled to an object of power. Not even Marinette nor Adrien are entitled to their Miraculous.
But superpowers aren't real. Superpowers have always been a tool to emphasize a point. The stories of superman only focused on his powers are boring, but when you tell stories of how he tries to fit into a world that is not made for him, stories of how much he loves this world despite how easy it could be to be cruel, it gets interesting. The reason superhero comics started is there was a want to show that there can be incredibly powerful people who choose to be good. To choose to make the world a better place.
Superpowers made just to be cool and show off are boring. There is only so much you can watch a fight with a cool power before it gets dull and repetitive. But you relate the powers, the struggles of using the powers, to the person wielding them, the story has a lot more staying power. The powers say something about the person, and is part of their development.
And honestly, Miraculous is a good case for why this is important.
Because good god, most of the superhero team is boring.
And I don't just mean because they're good people, so there's no spice, though that's also true, but because the powers aren't really used to emphasize anything about the character. Max has portals. Why? His mom wants to be an astronaut, but we never really hear about Max wanting to travel. Doorman is a better example of a portal hero because he loves going to other places and learning about them.
Now portals are good for a tactician....except Max is never the tactician despite the fact we know he's brilliant and is good at video games. He just does as he's told by Ladybug for where he should put his portals. Its so close, but its not utilized.
And that is the case for most of the superheroes. Like the bones are there, but nothing is properly utilized. Sabrina is definitely a dog, good at getting things, and is in fact well practiced in recognizing what things may or may not be important. But we've never actually gotten to focus on her BEING a superhero, she only had a small cameo with the power, basically. Same with Ivan, really. They're pretty perfect for their powers and it suits their personalities, but none of it is EXPLORED. And that's the case with most of the heroes.
Juleka and Rose were pretty good at using the Miraculous to develop more of someone's character and emphasize a strength about another in turn. These are good hero episodes because we learned more about them and their journey.
Kagami's first episode with the dragon showed off more of her, such as she could be reckless, which is new information, but we learn a lot about her without it, and nothing new beyond that.
Luka could have actually been incredibly good because the snake both emphasizes a big part of him, and something he needs to work on. Luka is someone who steps back and watches. He observes. However, he has a problem where he often is too willing to step back. But with the snake needs someone who can observe AND act. So its a Miraculous that uses an important part of his personality, but could have also helped him grow.
And the rest are just...nothing.
There is a little for Nino and Alya. Nino is definitely more bold about defending his friends than he was at first, and Alya learns to be better about secrets, but these are the primary secondary heroes. We should have seen a ton of impact and development due to them having the Miraculous.
Here is the stance Miraculous should be taking in their story.
The desperation of those trapped and the power of being given good options.
Most of the Akumas are people who are trapped. They feel powerless. They are desperate to escape their problem and feel like they have no proper recourse with things are they are. How accurate this is varies, but this is how they feel in the moment, and that is what Gabriel preys on. These people agree to the deal because they don't feel like they will be helped any other way.
Ladybug and Chat Noir are meant to bring hope to those who felt hopeless and chose a terrible way to try and escape. They are support. They are a hand people desperately need.
So by that same token, the Miraculous should be a good way for people who feel trapped to be given an option, OR give those people the ability to extend their own hands to help others.
While it doesn't have to every time, it should often be the case those who are given a Miraculous; A, dealing with a huge problem and the Miraculous helps them solve that problem, regardless to the Akuma being related. Like if Juleka was working on trying to speak up even if the Akuma wasn't her parents and the Tiger still helped her do that. B, they are related to the Akuma and why they feel trapped, so they are working through their own issues with the important person. Like Rose when Juleka felt guilty. Or C, the person wants to find a way to help in general and kind of go how it went with Nino becoming Carapace. Where they were trying to be that hand a person needed, and earn the Miraculous, and that helps them on their journey to provide more support and help.
But its often it is someone they know, but them being the hero doesn't REALLY matter. Penalteam, the people were just there, these specific people didn't matter. Why did Zoe need to be Vesperia? Anyone could have taunted Chloe and she got turned into a banana real fast, her being the Bee didn't really bring a lot, to the bee, to her, or even to Chloe, and then she proceeded to just not bring much as the Bee, to the story, or herself.
Now part of this problem is that Marinette is not allowed to not learn a lesson, and has to be the one to save the day. These heroes do have skills. They have things they could be good at. But often....the plan is just what Marinette says. These heroes are not allowed to have agency.
They can't make decisions on their own.
Often times, they're just bodies being told to do the power without the ability to make the decision how and when. Sometimes they let the heroes do things and make decisions, but nine times out of ten, its Marinette who says who does what and when and her mental health is degrading because of it.
The Akumas are stories that always at least tell us something about the person because we see what problems hit them hard. There is something to learn, a bit of conflict to develop from.
The Miraculous should be following that trend, but in a positive way, but...doesn't.
All that being said.
Chloe was entitled to the Miraculous.
Because here is the stance Miraculous takes.
Someone is trapped in a situation and chooses to lash out violently and while that violence can not be permitted to continue, the heroes offer their support so the victim can feel like they have another option.
This is the story of Miraculous crystalized. People who feel alone and helpless are easily convinced to hurt others until someone is willing to help them despite this harm.
Chloe is the story of Miraculous.
Akumas are a metaphor.
And Chloe is the reality.
A child who is alone. Who feels trapped in her situation. Who doesn't know what else to do. So she does the only thing she knows how. She lashes out. She hurts people. She keeps them distant because then it doesn't hurt as much when they leave, or when they treat her like dirt.
Chloe is an Akuma personified, but her problems are brief moments. They're not a bad day that someone took advantage of. They are ever present and continuous and more over, reinforced to continue.
Chloe knows being a brat gets her what she wants from her father and was never taught to not be like that. Because he didn't discipline her, because her mother acted like that, because all adults around her was staff. Making demands is what she was TAUGHT and learned, through observation and guidance.
A behavior she continued to do with kids, and she found out teachers responded to the same threats and was never properly stopped. Other kids, reasonably, didn't want to deal with her, or submitted to her like Sabrina.
Chloe was not never taught how to be good. She was, in fact, very much taught to NOT be good. Her parents both set a terrible example. Her father is a corrupt politician. He may spoil her, but he we know he bribes and blackmails people, plus, you know, abandoned his daughter and technically kidnapped Zoe. This is not a paragon of a man. Then there was her mother. But she had a choice, listen to the man who had to weasel and cheat and play back handed games to get what he wanted, or the woman who got anything and everything she wanted...of course she would try to be the woman who seemed to get everything her way.
Because if her mother got everything she wanted, if Chloe was like her, maybe she could get everything SHE wanted.
Except it wasn't working.
But Chloe wasn't taught it was because she was cruel. She just started to believe she wasn't GOOD ENOUGH.
Maybe if she was as great as her mother, it would work.
By the time she would be old enough to recognize that wasn't how the world worked...well, by then, most of her peers hated her.
And here is something I think goes under the radar about Zoe.
Zoe knows how to act like Chloe. Audrey didn't blink at it. Zoe defaulted to the same behavior as Chloe. Zoe said she put on an act and she was tired of it.
Zoe WAS CHLOE.
And we know what happened with Zoe. Zoe stopped acting like Chloe. And then she got bullied. People were mean and cruel and put cockroaches in her locker and she only had one friend.
I'm sure that's why Zoe moved to Paris. Zoe went to her mom because she wanted a clean slate. She wanted the bullying to stop.
Even then, she struggled to stop. She defaulted to her habit, and we see that she CONTINUED the act around the hotel for some weeks after, because it was a hard habit to break.
But then...
Zoe got support. A hand was held out to her. Marinette gave her a chance, and so did everyone else, and Zoe took it because she wanted to be herself and she wanted to stop being cruel. Of course she's nice. She was given the space to be so.
Chloe is never given that support.
Chloe doesn't know how to be kind. She doesn't know how to be nice.
But the greatest tragedy is Chloe does know how to be GOOD.
Out of all the heroes, besides Chat, to a lesser degree Alya, and Alix and Luka by nature of their Miraculous, Chloe shows the most agency as a superhero. All the other heroes have their hands held by Ladybug. She tells them what to do, to an overly specific degree, and they are just bodies to use a tool. Chloe? Chloe acts on her own. To good and bad effect. Discounting the whole Queen Wasp break down, just when Chloe is actually acting as a superhero, she doesn't wait for Ladybug to tell her everything all the time. She calls out to her father, which was a mistake, but then there is every other time she's Queen Bee...
And she's fantastic at it.
Miraculer, she almost had Mayura's Miraculous.
Star Train, she gets people away from the Akuma.
In Bakerix, she's the last the to leave the train car.
In Ladybug, she's defending Sabrina.
In Style Queen, played Style Queen in an effort to find a way to save Adrien.
In Heroes Day, she is a great teammate. Keep in mind, everyone on the team knows who Chloe is. Ladybug was desperate and doesn't fully trust Chloe as a general rule. Rena Rouge and Carapace definitely don't trust her at all. Chat Noir is the only one who believes in Chloe as a person.
And yet, throughout the entire fight, Chloe is keeping up and picking up the slack with everyone else. She fights, she keeps civilians from being hurt, her synergy is on fire despite the lack of trust. When Rena Rouge and Carapace go down, she is quick to try and protect them and even after two EXTREMELY dangerous Akuma show up by way of her parents, who are both gunning for her real hard, she holds her own for a while and even then, she had to be mind controlled to stop and to feel negative emotions. It took FOUR AKUMAS gunning for her specifically to corrupt her, akums who are made to mess her up mentally to boot. When they confront Gabriel at the end, she prepares venom without being asked, to have a back up for taking him down. She makes decisions and when she was trusted to act as a hero, they are largely good ones.
And she never once complained about the mental hardship of what she went through. Because that's the thing, all her times as Queen Bee are super intense. They are her loved ones she's fighting, they are incredibly powerful Akumas. She fought a frickin' army.
And everyone...
Just insults her.
She risked her life for people and no one cared.
She fought her family and no one cared.
Chloe doesn't know how to be nice. Nor kind. But she was so good. And while the next day, people appreciated her, it was only a day.
And the tragedy is Chloe didn't immediately go back to being a bully. After Despair Bear, Chloe's bullying habits took an extreme nose dive. We only see her being unreasonably cruel a few times. After Maledikator, the only time is when she bullies Aurore and when she teamed up with Marinette, but also Marinette was with her and they were both doing it for fear of losing Adrien reasons. Not reasonable, but also not just to be cruel and honestly, her plan was fairly benign. She wanted Kagami to leave, not even humiliate her. And even Aurore is because Chloe was reaching the point she did in Miraculer where she was doubting Ladybug's trust in her and as she is want to do, she lashed out.
Most of the time when we see Chloe, what we see is her bragging about being Queen Bee. Which, sure, isn't a great thing...
But better a braggart than a bully. And when things go wrong, she tries to use her status to help reassure and guide people, which is actually a pretty good idea. Akumas are attracted to negative emotions. If she can reassure them, then less likely of them getting akumatized. It may be bragging, but it could help.
Chloe may not have been picture perfect nice, but we literally have an entire classroom full of perfectly nice people. She may not be humble, but bragging is not a damnable offense. But Chloe was legitimately trying to be a better person. She put herself in between others and danger. She had faith and belief that there were solutions. Even without the Miraculous, she tried to help people.
She may have wanted appreciate and gratitude for it, but what's even sadder is she didn't require it.
Chloe believed in Ladybug for a long time. She believed Ladybug would trust her again. She believed she could be given a Miraculous again, and all on her own, ALL ON HER OWN, she was trying to be a better person.
Its actually amazing how good Chloe was being despite the fact no one was helping her.
Because that is the thing.
Zoe got support and help.
Chloe didn't.
Every. Single. Time. Chloe tried to do something different, something not cruel, she is rejected. She tries to join the art club and she's mocked out of it. She tries to be class representative, a job no one else wanted for years, and she loses it as soon as someone did challenge her. She auditions, legitimately, for a music video, with eight years of practice, and she loses it because she isn't nice enough.
She stops bullying, tries to be a reassuring presence, and she is treated with suspicion and derision.
And still.
And STILL.
That isn't what breaks her.
What breaks her is the realization the only time where her efforts were appreciated was taken away. And even then, she holds onto the pieces. Holds onto hope that maybe she would be given a new chance.
Her parents are in danger. The reason she was given she couldn't be a hero is because she and her loved ones would be in danger.
Except her loved ones were in danger.
She was in danger.
Not having a Miraculous didn't change anything. It didn't keep them safe, it didn't keep her safe.
And its only then, after months of no one believing in her for more than two days, of no one holding out their hand, helping her, supporting her, believing her, with the one person she thought DID believe in her proved that she didn't believe in her, and couldn't even give her the safety that not having a Miraculous was supposed to bring.
For months, Chloe only thought Ladybug believed she could be good.
Adrien wanted her to be less cruel, but Chloe knew her being good wasn't necessary for him.
Nor was it for Sabrina.
But Ladybug?
Ladybug needed her to be good to believe in her, and she thought Ladybug did.
Chloe was able to largely bite back her desires to lash out at people based purely on the fact one person, ONE SINGULAR PERSON, needed her to be good, and believed in her ability to be so. It got her derision. It got her suspicion. It got people comparing her to villains. It got her dismissal. But she still tried. She still believed.
A person who didn't really believe in Chloe very much.
And there is also the Watsonian argument that Marinette doesn't owe it to Chloe to help her improve AND THIS IS INCREDIBLY VALID and honestly, in a perfect world, it would be great if it was Adrien who helped Chloe improve.
Or you know, Zoe. Someone who has a clean slate with Chloe and understands where she's coming from and could help her.
But no, this is the Marinette Has To Solve Everything Show.
So from a Doylist view, it IS Marinette who has to help Chloe, but also the Watsonian problem could be helped if it was CLEARLY ESTABLISHED that Marinette knows she doesn't HAVE to help Chloe, and people aren't pressuring her to do so (coughBustiercough) because that is a bad message...
But Marinette can CHOOSE to help her and make that clear.
Because Marinette has seen a lot of Chloe and could understand that she really does just need a little more help. That Chloe needed just a bit more support and help. And, you know, didn't actively encourage Chloe to please her abuser.
But we're going from the Doylist view and we can solve the Marinette being the one to help Chloe problem by not having it be Marinette, but LADYBUG.
And this?
This is why I say Chloe was entitled to a Miraculous.
Because Chloe is the reality of the stance of the show, and so helping her problem with the metaphors would go a long way.
You see, Chloe doesn't know Ladybug is Marinette. And Marinette knows being Ladybug means being the bigger person. Ladybug believes in people. Ladybug helps everyone she can. Its not about the victim helping their bully, its the superhero choosing to help someone who NEEDS HELP.
Chloe is stuck in her situation. Her mother will always be emotionally abusive. Her father will always be an enabler. She can try to change, but no one will BELIEVE in her change. She will be derided and mocked and treated poorly because no one is willing to give her the chance to grow, and they certainly won't help.
Frankly, its a miracle that Chloe's Akumas are so merciful.
Because Banana Queen is the most destructive of Chloe's Akuma forms. Most of Chloe's Akuma forms don't care about HURTING people. They care about WINNING. She either wants to win or for people to just listen to her.
But give Chloe the Bee Miraculous, and suddenly things change.
Chloe feels like she has OPTIONS as Queen Bee. She doesn't feel she has to meet her mother's expectations as much if she's Queen Bee. She has people who trust and depend on her. At least right after she saves people, she gets a little praise, a little belief.
And people may say being a hero for glory and attention is a bad thing, but the thing is, Chloe's need for glory and attention is about being ACKNOWLEDGED. As feeling like people value and care about her. This is a BASIC HUMAN NEED and she doesn't know another way to get it. Its not like she's demanding physical things for her heroics.
She just wants to be appreciated.
By giving Chloe a Miraculous, she is given the tools to try and be good. She is given an escape from her situation. She is given SUPPORT in her efforts because the other heroes have to support her.
And over time...
That trust will grow.
Because what Chloe doesn't know, all her classmates are the other heroes.
And suddenly, all her classmates will see her as a different person. They will see what she's like when the chips are down. How much effort she's willing to put in. How seriously she takes the job.
Is she still a braggart? Sure. Is she still rude as hell? Absolutely.
But she will risk it all to help people, without asking for anything in return except a little faith.
Chloe is entitled to a Miraculous.
Because her story without a Miraculous is a story of a little girl who no one wanted to help, who were unwilling to offer her help because she lashed out while trying to survive a situation she couldn't escape, and because it wasn't super charged by a terrorist, she was deemed unworthy of it and instead deserving of isolation and constant emotional abuse.
But with a Miraculous?
Chloe is a girl who, when given a little faith, a little trust, a little help, returned it tenfold. Who puts her all in trying to be the best hero she could be. Is she imperfect? Sure. But she's giving it her all. (And frankly, she's spicy and it makes for entertaining character dynamics. You can have a character be a jerk and good, tsunderes are popular for a reason.) And as she gets more trust, as she gets more help, as she is offered that hand of help over and over again, she would continue to improve.
And as she's given power, she uses that same faith to figure out how to offer her hand to others. To help them. To spare them the same pain she suffered.
Because that is what given to the Akuma victims. They are given a little help, and a little power to break free of their magically abusive mindsets.
To have someone go from the continuing the cycle of abuse to someone who would save other people from that?
That is a real superhero story.
Chloe is undeserving from a Watsonian perspective.
But she's so very deserving from a Doylist perspective.

(SPOILERS!)
content warning â ïž subtle implications of assault.
yes, i am still not sold with the sequel.
i do agree that âdouble exposure has an interesting plot and new characters AND it couldâve been written better or it didnât include max at all to sell the gameâ can still exist in the same sentence.
but i have to admit that this video i stumbled upon tiktok today exploring maxâs trauma back in the first game was beautifully made and devastating to witness at the same time. (i refuse to watch the whole scene because i personally think itâs so corny, i might take back my statement.)
hannahâs performance as maxâespecially when she is raising her voice; breaking out from her âshy, nerdy, camera geekâ person that she constantly boxes herself inâalways sends a chill down to my spine.
this is the same girl who watched her best friend get killed in the junkyard and was also drugged during that process, who had to hold the burden of knowing almost every single female student in blackwell is also a victim of the professor he looked up to, who had to rely on no one but her destructive rewinding powers at the age of eighteen, reliving it all over again after how many years.
âno, no... never again!â

Not interested in LIS:Double Exposure
Okay I saw the Double Exposure trailer and I am not playing it.
Multiple reasons.
The Deck Nine IGN article. I will not support a developer that knowingly protected a bigoted groomer and allowed a Nazi to sneak in White Supremacist signs in the game.
Max learned nothing about the first game. Nevermind there is no Chloe, Warren or anyone from Arcadia insight(we'll get to that) Max apparently formed another codependent relationship that she couldn't let go to the point where she's fucking up reality by creating yet another parallel world. Either Deck Nine is entirely unoriginal or Max didn't learn a damned thing
That is not Max. If your defense is "she grew up" I got news for you. I've looked the same for nearly a decade. I've had friends while changing their aesthetic, they look the same. you donât look like an entirely new person when you age, the new model looks nothing like max thereâs barely even resemblance. Also I know, we all change our style as we get older, but Max's style was unique and it made Max Caulfield who she is. It didn't need to change. Deck Nine just Stephified Max. Was it really that hard to give Max bangs? Not just that. No freckles, eyes and eyebrows look completely different. This is not Max Caulfield.
4. No one from Arcadia Bay returned. It's pretty obvious Deck Nine is either keeping Chloe's fate a secret, but it's also clear they are trying to skirt around the issue of the endings without pissing everyone off. Feels like a copout to whatever ending you chose to give a new cast of characters. For the fans who wanted more time to play as Max and Chloe, I feel bad for you, I especially wanted to see Chloe again. So what the fuck was this supposed to be for then?
Though another point; why the hell are we supposed to be okay with the fact that Max is using her power again to save this brand new character we have zero previous connection to? Especially if the gameâs gonna try to straddle both endings to LiS 1; seems very insulting to have Max be okay with doing it for a character we have no previous attachment to, but sheâs left her girlfriend to die alone, thinking nobody loved her?
Also you had the perfect chance to make a fucking game that has Max save Rachel. I know I just did a tangent about Max not learning anything, but if you were just going to have Max use her powers again, why the fuck didn't you do it to save Rachel from a fate she never deserved? Godfucking forbid you give attention to Warren, Kate or Victoria. I just wanted to see these characters get some screen time, make cameos or give us SOME hint to what they are up to after the events of the first game. But no, we can't have that. We can't be given anything of substance for Warren, Kate or Victoria. Can't learn anything about their fates in the LIS 2 Save Arcadia Bay ending, can't find out Warren or Kate survived the storm in Wavelengths via talking to Steph during the storm anniversary and we can't see them again in DE. I know it's just a teaser, but seriously why even do a new Max game if we don't even get cameos from these characters? Knowing how Deck Nine is, they are just gonna find a way to demonize Warren to paint him like Eliot, regress Victoria's character and not even give Kate the time of day to mention. Jesus fucking christ, I just wanted to see Max and Warren Go Ape, fun Max and Victoria photodates and to see Max and Kate have one fucking Tea date. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR???
5. Deck Nine are literally just swiping DontNodâs characters for the purposes of chasing that brand recognition. It's just copy pasting lighting in a bottle and milking a cow out of this franchise. BTS was remotely successful because of Chloe and Rachel's relationship. True Colors is fun at first, but realize it's just a hollow imitation of the first game. DONTNOD's story was original, fun and unique. I had problems with it but it was still THEIR story on their terms and not developed from a place of corporate cynicism asking for preorders ASAP that come bundled with a box of tissues and bobbleheads of dead teenagers. Read recent interviews from DONTNOD and you can TELL they got burned by SquareEnix over this. I hope they can channel that into something with Bloom and Rage because Iâd love to see them recapture that magic again.
I had fears of what would happen if Deck Nine ever got their hands on Max. And looks like I was right to be worried.
To be clear, I think making stories with someone elseâs character is great and cool and itâs literally what fanfiction is and technically, MUCH of mass media now IS âfanfictionâ. The difference here is DONTNOD deliberately wanted LIS 1 canon left alone, near as I can tell. But no, Square Enix wanted a franchise and Deck Nine was more than happy to milk the cow for all it was worth and Deck Nine has shown they don't understand DONTNOD's characters
The game looks like it's repeating everything about the first game, but none of the charm that made it great. It's beat for beat the same fucking game. Dead friend, murder mystery, but without the ambiance, charm or magic that made the first game good. Deck Nine is completely unoriginal, DE is a soulless cashgrab and their hyperrealism killed the entire essence of the game and its characters.
It's quite literally a copy and paste of True Colors, but with Max.
And when we just look at this. Double Exposure is just soulless. It's style over substance and I knew. I just KNEW that if Deck Nine got their hands on Max it would be half-assed and soulless shit like this. They dared to slap Max's name on a Steph lookalike and then just do True Colors again, but more hollow.
There's something just so disappointing about the change in art style over the years. The art direction in the first game was charming and now it just feels kinda soulless. The awkward chunkyness of the models really made it stand out but now it feels way too smooth
life is strange going from one studios passion project to anotherâs cashgrab is one of the biggest modern tragedies in the world deck nine they could never make me like you. All the charm of the franchise from the cartoonish artstyle to the episodical releases has been completely stripped away itâs just very disappointing to see.
This meme is literally Double Exposure.

Okay so this is me talking about everything that is wrong with Double Exposure because my first post about it was an angry reaction at the pricefield breaking up news and it wasnât really diving into it. Obviously donât read this if you havenât played the game and do not want to get spoiled. Also, this is going to be long.
First of all, what I really want to speak about and what a lot of people are refusing to accept is how painfully out of character Max is throughout the whole game. âYeah but sheâs ten years olderââ Donât care. That doesnât mean her entire personality has to change. Iâll say it over and over again, 2014 Max Caulfield would have absolutely despised her adult version. The thing that bugs me the most about 2024 Max Caulfield is how careless she is with her powers. Sheâs not asking herself where they came from, she doesnât even freak out, or actually care. In the first game, right after she first rewinds, she constantly has to remind herself that she isnât dreaming, and that this is real. In this game, she just accepts it, and goes on with her day, and uses her powers for the most useless reasons possible. What about the Max from her nightmare who represents the guilt she felt for using her powers wrong and putting all of those people in danger, you say? Absolutely forgotten. Max uses her powers so she can find items easier and so the people who rejected her in her main timeline want her in the other one. (Yes, after Chloe breaks up with her and expresses her worries about the fact that Max â apparently â uses her powers so things go her way â which is already incredibly out of character, because no, 2014 Max wouldnât have used her powers on Chloe to avoid conflict, especially after what happened.) That is incredibly manipulative and shitty. SHE WOULDNâT FUCKING SAY THAT. And also, why on Earth would she try and use her powers to avoid her friendâs death when she KNOWS where this is leading. Did she not learn anything from the past? Apparently, she didnât! And proceeded to completely forget about it all.
Something else that is incredibly annoying and gets tiring after like ten minutes is the amount of awkward sex-related jokes that Max (and every character, somehow) keeps making at any given moment. Pretty sure this was supposed to show us that Max is an adult now and that she hangs out with adults and knows what sex is but that is way too much. Nobody talks like that in real life (and if I ever meet someone who does Iâm leaving the conversation). Max also makes cringey jokes all the time, because her dialogue (and hers only, which makes it sound even weirder) is the same as the 2014 one, except it was 2014 back then and it was acceptable. Now, if Max Caulfield says âletâs trash, shakabrahâ, youâre only making it obvious how much fan-service you filled this game with. It would be funny if she said it to Chloe, because then it would have sounded like an inside joke, except she says it to her new lame love interest who has no idea what sheâs talking about, and just. Why. Why would she, Deck Nine. The main problem about the fact that those jokes are thrown at us all the time is that Maxâs inner dialogue is almost only focused on them. Something traumatic happens to her? Who cares. Sheâs gotta make a joke about the rock you pick up and then bring to another universeâs lame love interest whoâs gonna reject her anyway and say âIâll never apologize for my dad jokesâ because apparently, weâre never seeing the end of the fan-service in this game.
Chloe is out of character too the only few times we hear of her, but thatâs only because Deck Nine makes it obvious how much they despise her. She leaves Max through a very underwhelming letter, which is already out of character enough. She then proceeds to never reach out for years (which is something Max has done to her and that has hurt her, so why the fuck would she do the same thing right after?) And apparently, she doesnât care. She just moves on, and parties, and kind of starts flirting with Maxâs high school bully, and makes cringey posts on the Internet that make her sound like an extremely corny player. That isnât Chloe Price. Thatâs someone Chloe Price would make fun of, at most. I kept picturing 2014 Chloe reading the things her adult self apparently posts on social media and freeze in terror. Genuinely. Also, the whole âJoyce is dead and Chloe is angry at Max for itâ. Sigh. Chloe gave Max the choice. She said âyouâre the only one who can (make this choice)â. And then, when Max choses her, in front of her, and lets the town get blown away, Chloe says âIâll always be with youâ. Why the sudden switch up? Never explained. Chloe is just angry at Max for something she originally wasnât angry at her for.
The writing in this game is super weak, too. There are a few cool scenes (Iâm thinking the one where Safi tells Max to pulls the trigger in the middle of the storm, if you manage to make it past how boringly similar to LiS 1 it feels), but itâs mostly justâŠmeh, at most. For instance, Safi asks Max about Chloe, we learn that Chloe and Max broke up, or that Chloe died, and then without giving us any time to process that, the game forces us to friendzone or flirt with some random girl that is apparently into Max. We donât have any time to decide if we like her or not, you just take a look at her and decide if Max wants her. The dialogues are more often than not awful too. It sounds like something ChatGPT would write. Nearly every single interaction Max can have with basically anyone feels forced, and like people talk too much, or not enough, people say random thing that makes no sense and nobody cares, we suddenly hear Maxâs thoughts in a middle of a conversation, there are awkward moments of silence. Painful to witness. Max has NO chemistry with either of her love interests (though the guy is somehow more interesting than the girl to interact with), and manages to have more romantic moments with her best friend who sheâs not supposed to be into than with them. Both those love interests are useless and suck anyway, because they will both end up rejecting Max by the end anyway, and apparently wonât even return, which strikes the question of why the romantic plot lines were even involved. (Which also made me hate Amanda a lot. I guess she is somewhat likable at the beginning of the game, but she gradually becomes annoyingly pushy and ends up telling Max sheâs too much to deal with at the end of the game anyway). Also, itâs annoying how obvious it is that the romantic plot line is way more explored with Amanda than it is with Vihn. Stop making Max look like sheâs basically a lesbian but not completely because she hooks up with guys sometimes. Stop bisexual erasure, basically.
The game gives up on its own plot in the middle of it. It was promoted as a murder mystery but stop being one after a while to become a What The Hell Is Going On With Safi kind of thing. Also, thereâs the whole thing with the detective. Why did they even create him only to treat him as a joke and never explain what happened with him. One of the most confusing thing about this game. What the hell was that for.
The nightmare sequence. God, how I hate it. If you want to deal with Maxâs trauma, do it WELL. Itâs a go big or go home thing, not a âletâs put some sort of references but never properly deal with anythingâ. IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING. Thereâs references about Chloe everywhere, and never Chloe. I get it, you donât want her to be in this game. But if you do want to talk about Maxâs trauma, you gotta swallow your pride and put her somewhere anyway. Max canât have a nightmare about the things that traumatized her without Chloe being there. It just makes it even more obvious how much the studio avoided to put her in the game on purpose. The bathroom scene? God, please, what the fuck was that. Why would Max think of herself as some kind of Nathan Prescott parallel?? The only thing they had in common was pointing a gun at someone. Thatâs it. That was another poor attempt of the game to try and not put Chloe there but still say âlook!! Max still thinks about her and is traumatized!! But she somehow dreams about it without seeing her face once!!â like just stop. And the Dark Room part felt very underwhelming too. Kudos to Hannah Telle for the amazing voice acting on this, but the scene lasted ten seconds. Just donât put it there, please.
The nightmare isnât needed in every LiS game. So isnât the Storm. So arenât the nosebleed. Why does Diamond get nosebleed because of her powers? That was a Max thing. Daniel didnât get nosebleed, Alex didnât get nosebleed, Chris didnât get nosebleed. (Rachel didnât get nosebleed either). Why is this suddenly something everybody get because of their powers?? And why do every powers suddenly create Storms. Itâs not a common Powers Problem, it was a Rewind Powers thing. God, this makes me mad.
And last but not least. The final choice. It felt so??? Underwhelming??? I use this word a lot, but itâs how the whole game feels for me. The LiS choices are hard to pick. Thereâs no morally wrong or right answer. It depends on who you are, what you stand for. The first game was about learning how to let go or refuse to let your friend get ruined by fate. The second game was about giving your life up for your brother to have a chance or refusing to give up on what you believe in and what makes you who you are, no matter what. Before the Storm was about protecting your loved ones from the truth or refusing to lie to them and let them hurt. True Colors was about forgive the unforgivable in the name of compassion or hold a grudge in the name of family.
And then thereâs this game. âDo you wanna join the X-men me and my team of supervillains and take over the world lolâ. Why would Max say yes to that. Just why. If you want to play the game in character, itâs obvious that you have to pick ârefuseâ. If you want to play an out of character evil Max just for the sake of it because itâs fun, alright! I donât blame you. Itâs fun. But why on Earth would Max Caulfield agree.
Also, they take you for an idiot with the cat content. Do NOT waste your money on it, you will regret it.
Anyway. This game wouldâve been okay if it hadnât been apart of the LiS franchise, and if it had starred a different main character. I still wouldâve thought it was confusing and generally not great, but at least it wouldnât have felt like such a let down. (Side note: everything Iâve said doesnât include Moses and Gwen. I want to put them in my pocket and carry them around with me forever. Love them a lot.)
And congratulations if youâve read this far. I probably wouldâve gone âI ainât reading allatâ and scrolled

I feel like the LIS fandom finds a new thing to complain about relating to Chloe like every few weeks. And every time itâs always something stupid that can be disproven by just paying attention to detail. Like seriously guys why are we hating on Chloe now for bringing up Rachel so much and using it as a reason that you think Chloe was never in love with Max / was using Max as a rebound. R u fr rn???? Chloe loves Max 4 Max and the reasons he brought up Rachel so much was because she was, I donât know, GRIEVING??? Yâknow if I lost someone I loved deeply I would probably bring her up a decent amount too! Cause I would miss her! Which Chloe does miss her! She meant a lot to her! And no itâs not her overshadowing Max with Rachel or being all âI would prefer to be with Rachel than youâ itâs that she misses Rachel whilst loving Max too. Canât those coincide? And now people r using this Chloe talking abt Rachel stuff as a reason to be all âthis is why I chose bay over baeâ and âthis is why I hate Chloeâ when seriously WHAT
Iâve gone over this a hundred times but the fandom wonât stop being SO BAD at mischaracterizing and not paying attention to the details of Chloe as a character

The fallacy of realism in Life is Strange Double Exposure. Another more or less analytic rant :)
Okay. I lied. This is the real LAST commentary about Deck Nine's fiasco. Or maybe not.
ANYWAY. I'm reading a lot of discourse of how it's realistic that Max and Chloe would break up.
Even the devs have been on Twitter saying the most basic stuff you've heard a thousand times before:
As someone whoâs been in a loving, committed relationship for more than a decade (and we met in our early 20s), that shit MAKES NO SENSE FOR PRICEFIELD. Move forward? Yes. Absolutely. But you can move forward with another person. Moving forward doesn't have to mean leaving your partner behind, and certainly not for these two.
Max and Chloe didnât create a âtrauma bondâ. People seem to forget they were childhood best friends. They went through trauma together. Thereâs a difference.
Each time my wife and I went through devastating shit (cause life is a bitch sometimes), I leaned on her, we carried each other. We went through rough days, of course, we fought sometimes, but we grew together. I fell more in love with her seeing her taking decisions, reacting to me, dealing with her own shit, taking care of me when I didnât have the energy to take care of myself as I would take care of her when the roles were reversed.
Sure, some relationships donât survive when they go through bad times.
But Max and Chloe? These two literary broke space and time for each other.
Characters have to be profoundly CHANGED at the end of stories for them to be meaningful, for stories to move us. This has been established since we began to tell stories around campfires thousands of years ago. It's been engraved in conventional storytelling even way before Aristotle gave it a name in his Poetics.
At the end of the BAE romantic path, Chloe was ready to die for Max, and for a whole town of people who mostly despised her. She had changed profoundly. She had understood the meaning of love and loyalty and devotion, because Max showed her.
Max was ready to face the consequences of choosing Chloe. She had changed too. She had understood that loving Chloe made her better, braver, determined, that the past was in the past and that she couldnât keep rewinding. That she had to accept herself, fight back, take ownership of her destiny.
When they left Arcadia Bay they were both devastated, but ready to fight for each other and move on. The Chloe that gave Max that reassuring touch and that loving look at the end of the game would NEVER, under no circumstances, break up with Max by letter saying all kinds of mean shit. This destroys both their characters' arcs from LIS1. It's an unsuccessful, poorly camouflaged reboot.
Maybe if the break up was presented differently it wouldnât have enraged so many people. Maybe. Weâll never know. Iâd still argue that having a path where Chloe is dead, the decision to break them up was absolutely unnecessary. But to have made that decision, and to justify the OOC behavior and the outcome of their relationship by saying âitâs realisticâ (some people have taken the devs' discourse to heart) is just ridiculous and dissapointing, and just straight out unprofessional. This kind of revisionism and lack of understanding of the themes and motivations of the first game is truly baffling, so much so itâs hard for me to believe how NO ONE at Deck Nine or Square Enix with some level of responsibility and proper education in media stopped the madness.
Writers choose what to include in a story, meaning they bear responsibility for the narrative choices they make, regardless of whether those choices are realistic. Fiction is an inherently constructed art form. Authors decide what to include, exclude, emphasize, or downplay. Using ârealismâ as a justification can be seen as a way to avoid responsibility for narrative decisions, especially when those decisions are unpopular or ethically troubling.
This is writing 101, and I canât believe a supposedly professional game dev studio is acting like children writing their first fics on Wattpad and falling into the realistic fallacy.
In âThe Decay of Lying,â Oscar Wilde famously argued that âLife imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life,â suggesting that art should not be constrained by realism. Another example is the philosopher and literary critic Roland Barthes, who in âThe Death of the Author,â argued that the meaning of a text is not determined solely by the authorâs intentions, thus challenging the notion that invoking realism absolves a writer of their choices.
They CHOSE to break them up.
They chose to villainize Chloe, the canonically queer, fan-favorite character that was at the heart of the story along with Max. Together.
Crying realism doesnât make it any less senseless, knowing damn well they knew how it would affect people.
So, Deck Nine, Square Enix: please take some fucking responsibility.

lis de: a rant
i've never been a person to publicly rant about games like this, but considering how life is strange is one of my favorite franchises ever, and how it's being absolutely SHIT on by the current devs and publisher..
we need to talk.
i was there during the OG days of the original game's release. granted, i was only 14 and a dumb teenager, but i definitely used tumblr when people called this game "life is tumblr".
i remember the theories. i remember the lets plays. i remember the excruciating wait between episodes. the fanart. the fanfics. i remember the extreme disappointment with the endings, but also how people came to.. accept them. to some degree.
that won't happen this time.
d9 and square enix fumbled this franchise so hard by putting out this new "so-called" sequel to the first game. the blatant disrespect for the characters created by dontnod, who seemed to put actual love into their characters, is just fucking insane.
i'm not a huge shipper in general, but even *i* know, as someone who was there during the original release, how much a profound impact pricefield have had on people. hell, it even helped 14 year old me, who struggled with massive internal homophobia, already at that point start to question my sexuality.
pricefield helped me become comfortable with who i am.
to reduce their relationship to something as.. people moving on because its realistic??? it's a fucking supernatural game. there's nothing realistic about it. there's already such a HUGE lack of *happy* sapphic relationships, and pricefield was one of those that deserved a happier outcome. you're essentially punishing those who picked bae, but also bay-ers by staining chloe's memory. making her seem like nothing more than an bitch in both endings.
we waited 10 years for this bullshit?
it's so fucking obvious that these corpo assholes hate chloe and everything she stands for, and that we should forget about her. ironic really, considering they made a whole ass game about her in BTS. what even *happened*?
"move on". hell, it's literally *written* in the game. they're trying to essentially reboot max so they can keep pushing new games with her.
if pricefield is truly dead, with 0 chance of coming back because they wants us to "move on" - i hope life is strange is over. i hope whatever plan they have for another shallow entry in the series crashes and burns. the fans deserve better, and so does the d9 devs that might've pushed against this happening in the first place.
whatever the full release may be (which, going by devs statements and leaks won't be any better), know this:
this game doesn't have to be canon.
you can ignore it.
fuck deck nine. fuck square enix.

I didn't know if you take requests but I have been thinking about this for a while. You are Scotty James younger sister and you meet Daniel while they are hanging out and you both like eachother and him and Chloe set you up. At first Scotty didn't agree but Chloe showed him that both of them are actually in love. I'm kinda seeing this with something with age gap, about 8 years (sorry if the grammar is not right, English is not my first language and I'm very tired because of school and stuff)
Atermoiememts
Genre: Fluff, Spice
Summary: Daniel is pining after his best friends younger sister. Drunken confessions lead to a black eye.
Warnings: drinking, sexual innuendo, and references, alluded to smut, Scotty throws hands
Notes: Sorry I haven't posted in a few days! I've been working on my master list, and I've had work and school to attend to. I can't believe I posted first daily since mid-July, and now I've finally slowed down. I'm so sorry for requests taking longer!!
Masterlist
Scotty James. Professional Snowboarder and protective older brother. Well, protective isn't the word he would use. Maybe loving? A wall between his sister and men who have poor intentions?
Chloe loves his sister. She is great friends with Lance. She gets along great with Daniel, his best friend, maybe better then he would like at times, but it's whatever.
She's the one who drags Scotty to more then half of the F1 races. Given he has time. She's obsessed.
Yet, Scotty can't help but think it's because of somebody specific on the grid. He's yet to figure out who. Max? Charles? She gets along with them well enough.
She spends to much time clinging to Daniel that it is probably scaring away the boys she actually likes! Not that Daniel is intimidating or anything. The guys smile is infectious. But it probably doesn't help her at all with getting the attention of the drivers her age.
~~~~~
Y/N James. Professional F1 enthusiasts. Sister to Scotty James. Annoying younger siblings to him but shy to everybody else.
She would like to add girlfriend of Daniel Ricciardo in there somewhere, but the backlash from her brother keeps her from saying anything. Plus, she's probably to young for him. A nine year age gap maybe isn't his thing. But he could help her out a but and stop flirting with her.
She knows it's teasing. It's sarcastic like with all of his friends. It's not like she's special or anything.
Her reason for wallowing in her thoughts? Chloe had just made her a third drink. The two are sitting on the couch in her and Scottyâs hotel room post qualifying. Daniel had a good session, so him and Scotty are out having mocktails.
"I see the way you look at him." Chloe wiggles her eyebrows suggestivley. Her legs are crossed on the sofa and she continues to take small sips of whatever she's drinking.
"And how would that be?"
"Like you love him."
The younger James eyes her suspiciously. How could have possibly outed her by just watching? Is she really that obvious?
"So what if I do? Not like anything is gonna happen." She shrugs.
"But he likes you too? I see it. His flirting is different with you."
"What? That fact he can and will describe in detail what he would do to me?"
"Don't lie!" Chloe shouts and playfully hits the younger on the shoulder. "You totally like it."
She can feel her face heating up but the alcohol has made her filter disappear.
"He really could do whatever to me. I'd let him."
"What if he wants you to call him daddy?" Chloe starts cracking up laughing.
"... I would."
~~~~~
Daniel Ricciardo. Formula 1 driver. Lover of Texas. The honey badger himself. Cannot for the life of him fix this stupid crush on Scottyâs younger sister.
He personally doesn't care about what the media has to say. But he does care about her and the backlash she would get. He'd hate to see her hurt just because he couldn't keep his feelings to himself.
And it really doesn't help that Chloe has been trying to get them together for weeks now. Months even. It's driving him insane. How is he supposed to keep up his playful flirting at this rate?
She's been shoving them onto awkward scenarios and leaving them alone together (much to Scottyâs dismay). Scotty picked up on something after the fifth encounter like that.
"Do you even like her like that?" He'd said while that ate dinner. It was just the two of them and Chloe.
"He definitely does!"
"I really don't want to talk about it anymore."
"Chloe, my sister would be into guys her age."
"And if her and Daniel did get together?"
"Then I owe you a date for being right and I'd punch Daniel."
The conversation left Daniel feeling both relieved and terrified. Scotty had made a valuable point, though. She's around the same age as Max and Charles. Two good-looking and kind men who he trusts. It wouldn't shock him if she went after one of them instead.
But if that's the case, why has she spent the entire night dancing with him? The music is blaring, and their cheeks are pink from the alcohol. Yet the feeling of her hips up against hasn't left since they got here.
His impulse control is lacking, and he doesn't know he's doing it until after. Doesn't know what he's implied or how she'll respond.
"Do you wanna get out of here?"
He mentally slaps himself for asking such a thing, but it's too late now. He can't take it back.
"That sounds nice."
And oh, how he melts. Her smile is his everything. Though with her reply, his is definitely bigger.
Daniel drags her back to his hotel room. Is a flurry of pent of emotions. Hands and lips explore to the point where their driver is probably annoyed.
In the hotel room isn't any better and they are both definitely under the influence.
"Maybe we shouldn't-"
"When was your last drink?"
Daniel thinks back. Already straddled over the top "two hours ago I think?"
"Same, i stopped when you did. So please don't think to hard about this. If I only get to do this once then I want to enjoy every damn second of it."
Something between love, adoration, and confusion passes through him. "What do you mean by that?"
"This is a one night stand, no?"
"It doesn't have to be."
"Not sure my brother would like me having a friends with benefits type of deal with his best friend." Her eyebrow quirks up in the lamplight.
"Fuck that's - that's not what I mean." Curse his lack of filter for heat he's about to say. "I love you. I have for so long but I didn't want to say anything."
She freezes, likely due to the shock of the statement. "I love you too, also for awhile now."
Yeah - every ounce of restraint he had before is gone. Clothes are shed in record time. He doesn't hold not one damj thing back.
"Let me show you how much I adore you."
~~~~~
To say Scotty is staring at Chloe is an understatement. He's glaring at her. "I've been played."
"Do you wanna go punch him now?"
It's eight in the morning and Scotty is throwing off the covers and marching to the door of their room. Sharing a wall with Daniel definitely wasn't the best idea.
He knocks aggressively. "Daniel! Open up!"
There's a bit of shuffling then the door swings open to reveal a sleepy eyed Australian. His eyes get wide when he realizes who it is.
"Look Daniel, I know you'll take good care of her. You're a good friend and a better boyfriend. But I swear to you if you ever hurt her I will not hesitate to knock your teeth out."
Daniel's shoulders sag in relief. His body relaxs. His sister standing in the entry way also does.
Then scotty swings.
But hey! If one black eye is all it takes to convince Scotty not to stalk Daniel's every step to protect his sister, then he'll take it.
The Best Fun
Super silly, short fic for @jilytoberfest Day 6: Food disasters
Because we all know Sirius would be the one to experiment with muggle drugs~ AO3 link here!
âProngsâdonât be angry.â
Peter stood with his back against the Fat Lady who screamed at him to be unhanded. His arms were outstretched but his face was riddled with absolute fear.Â
âCanât say I love hearing that from you, Wormy.â
If Peter had been sent to ward him off, that meant that the other two marauders must be shit deep in whatever laid beyond the portrait hole. Usually, the prospect of something to spice up his evening would perk his spirits, but tonight was a rare exception.Â
He had been forced to do patrols with Chloe Sparrow due to the fact that she had been favoring her fellow Slytherins during her rounds. Although it had been his idea, it didnât help that it took away precious time patrolling with Lily. Then, as he had come to find out, it also meant the night would be filled with a strange mixture of semi racist remarks and what James could only refer to as a grotesque version of flirting, ending in Chloe being sent back to her dorms before she could smack his arse another time.Â
So in short, Jamesâ bullshit threshold was reaching max capacity.Â
âSoâdo you just want to tell me or do I need to pretend to struggle past youâŠâ
Peter started to look visibly sweaty and backed off of the Fat Lady who, now free from her smothering, chirped insults under her breath.Â
âUhm. So before I say anything, you should know Lily wanted to, soââ
âPeter.âÂ
James was losing patience fast. He had expected the lads to have done something, sure, but Lily was a development he wasnât ready for. From his tone alone, it all came tumbling out of Peter like a single word.
âPads made some stuff.âÂ
âWhat kind of stuff?â
Peterâs eyes shifted. âMuggle stuffâsaid something about how that band,The Beagles or whatever, used it toââ
James walked up to his mate who jumped out of the way before he could even attempt to push through.Â
Trudging through the portrait hole, Peter kept fast on his feet, babbling excuses like a mosquito hovering to feed.
âAgain! She wanted to! Even helped a bit! Moony didnât stop them!â
A voice drawled out from the center of the common room. âThanks for ratting me out Wormy.âÂ
Remus laid reclined on the length of the couch, book in one hand while a cigarette hung from his lips.Â
James took stock of the room. The only thing that looked remotely out of place was a tray of what looked like a dessert which had been ravenously attacked. A knife balanced on the baking tray.Â
âSo where are they?âÂ
Without any further elaboration Lupin tilted his head towards the fireplace and James took the two steps needed to get enough clearance to see over onto the ground. Lily was curled up in a ball, eyes closed and head resting on the stomach of a giant black dog, both completely asleep.
âExplain.â He used his head boy voice, but Remus only laughed.Â
âSirius thought it would be a scream to make pot browniesâshould have seen them about an hour agoânever seen two people hug and dance around so much in my life.â
Peter, who was still standing at the entrance of the portrait hole, pipped up in a quivering voice. âIt was quite nice actuallyâLily was so affectionate andââ
âAnd you didnât call me? Didnât think that I wanted to come try muggle drug food too?â
James looked down at his sleeping girlfriend who buried her nose into Siriusâ stomach, hands curling around the fur, blissfully unaware that the animal she was laying on could be anything other than a dog.Â
âYou all knew Iâve always wanted to do this, Moony! Honestly, Iâm hurt!â
âSorry mate, it just happened.â
James crouched down next to Lilyâs sleeping form, brushing some of her hair from her face. At his touch, her eyes blinked open, a brilliant glassy green, slightly bloodshot, looked up at him.
âOh Baby! Youâre back!â She lifted up and threw her arms around his neck, nuzzling her nose into his collar.Â
âOh I just love you! Wow, you smell so good!âÂ
Every word from her mouth sounded breathy and light, like the world was one big cloud with her on it. From behind him, Peter muttered: âSee? I quite like her stonedâ and Lupin just snorted in response.
âHave you met this dog? I love this dog.â She turned to wrap her arms back around a still sleeping Sirius, but James caught her, pulling her back into him.Â
âI have met the dogâthat's ok, we can leave him alone now.â James cradled her to his chest and she melted into him, completely forgetting Sirius despite her comment seconds ago.
âI can see you had some fun tonight.âÂ
She didnât respond, rather looking up into his eyes before bursting into a laugh, grabbing both sides of his face and smashing their foreheads together.Â
âBrilliant fun. The best fun. But not as fun as you. I missed you.â
It was hard to feel upset about that. James scooped under her legs and carried her like a child over to the staircase which led up to the dorms. Laughter tumbled out of her mouth before becoming preoccupied with kissing his neck in quick, frantic pecks.Â
âIâm going to get her to bed before she decides she loves someone elseââ Lily just squealed, wrapping her hands tighter around his neck in an attempt to get him to kiss her.
âIf Sirius wakes up, tell him Iâll give him a running head start in the morning before I beat the shit out of himâ.â
Remus didnât look up from his book, eyebrows raised.
âAwfully kind of you Prongs.â
James started to climb the steps, Lily alternating between laughter and proclamations of love.
âWellâItâs the least I could do to repay him.â
Genuinely, one of the most emotional things in this franchise is the word âHella.â
In Life Is Strange and Before The Storm, we learn that Chloe wasn't fond of the word "Hella" until she met Rachel. Her Cali girl added that word into her speech, which is sweet when we know that she hates that word in the alternative timeline where she never met Rachel. The very cute implication to that is Chloe doesn't like the word all that much, but she associates it with Rachel, and that's enough of a reason for her to like it enough to use it.
So, Rachel's influence on Chloe lingers in her speech. Then Chloe's influence on Max makes her use the word "Hella." The word has been passed down through the three of them, and it's emotional all counts. Rachel leaves Chloe a part of herself in the way she speaks. Rachel has a connection with Max even though they were never able to meet. Chloe passes down a word she started using because of a loved one to Max, someone else she loves greatly.
Itâs all very sweet, and I love how the game shows that something as simple as a word can leave a mark on the people you care about. Â
So... Let's Talk About THAT
I want to start this by saying that I haven't purchased Double Exposure, and I have no plans on doing so because of what this post is about. I know very little about the game, but I do know about the Chloe stuff. That was the one thing I wanted to know about going into the game before I committed to a purchase. Not specifically because of a ship or whatever (though that's certainly a factor), but how they go about justifying Chloe not being in the Double Exposure.
I say that because I knew, based on the marketing for the game being as cagey as it is in regards to Chloe. I knew there'd be some kind of justification to not have her around, because how else are they going to make the game's story work with both endings being "respected." And that's the key word here: respect.
Normally, I'd at least abide by my spoiler policy, where I would mark spoilers for stuff that's super new for like, a month. However, because of what this entails, I really can't be nice enough to do that, as everything I've seen has genuinely made me go "how is this 'respecting' the player's choice from LiS1?!"
Under the cut, there will be spoilers for Life Is Strange as a series. As I write this sentence, I don't know how much I'll go into it, so be warned. I know Double Exposure isn't even fully out, but man, I have a lot to say about this ONE THING in it that has me annoyed to no end.
So... in Double Exposure, the one thing a lot of fans of the first game were wondering was "why is Chloe not in the game?" Some were hopeful that she would be, but realistically, there was no way that was possible without the game's budget being higher. At best, we'd get some new voice lines, but that's about it. Why? Because Deck Nine wanted to "respect" the ending of LiS1 for the players who chose the "Bay" ending. Chloe, in case y'all forgot, fucking DIES in that ending, so she'd, at best, get a cameo appearance in the game where Max returns unless it was decided that the game was set in a timeline where Chloe survived.
It is very clear to me from the jump that unless they made that choice, they'd not have Chloe be around. It was likely that they'd make it so the pair broke up in some capacity (be it as friends or lovers, it didn't really matter), and as much as I didn't want that aspect to be true, it ended up actually being the case. As a fan of Pricefield, this sucks, but as a person who understood from the start that the game would have to find a way to dodge the issue of Chloe in some capacity to tell the story Deck Nine wanted to tell, I could accept it. So long as the way they did so was respectful to the original vision of the characters in some capacity.
And because I'm writing this post at all, it's pretty obvious that isn't what happened.
I want to be perfectly clear when I say that the break up, conceptually, makes sense as a mechanism for a story about Max. In my mind, it would make sense that Max and Chloe's relationship would have some bumps caused by the sheer amount of trauma Max endured during the tail end of LiS1. Finding out that a person you looked up to (Jefferson) was a total psycho who was obsessed with you and likely would have tried something worse than just taking gross pictures of you would leave a person pretty fucking messed up for years. Add onto that the fact that she basically had to do the trolly problem in real life, with the choices being her hometown and it's entire population... or a person she loves so much she couldn't imagine living without them (be it as a friend, or as more than that)... and you'd probably have a therapy bill the size of the Olympus Mons before you started feeling "relatively normal" again.
In a world where the people who were writing the game were better at their jobs, at least in this capacity, they'd look at that, and see how it'd affect a relationship. Max being unable to properly move on, with the only person she can reliably talk to about it being someone she very much wouldn't want to trauma dump on (since you can't exactly tell a shrink that you had time travelled so much that you caused a titanic sized waterspout to level an entire costal town without getting institutionalized), given that said person is likely grappling with a lot of shit themselves (survivor's guilt, for one)... yeah a break up of some kind, even if only a temporary one, is kind of inevitable. Time apart might be something you both need to properly heal.
This would also allow the story to at least try to deal with Max's trauma in a way that is comparable in scope based on both decisions, and it would make sense. If Max were the one to break off the relationship, citing a need to have some time apart to get her head on straight (metaphorically speaking, we all know she ain't straight), it'd make sense that said choice could blow up in her face and leave her a bit emotionally frazzled. Chloe is a person who very obvious abandonment issues, so a decision like that from Max, even if it was only for a while, would likely lead to a much more stressful situation, regardless of how close they are.
This, in turn, would allow the "Bay" ending to be about Max not being able to get over her choice to functionally kill her own best friend, and all of the things she never got to say. The grief being something she struggles with for a decade (or however long it is between LiS1 and DE) would make sense. It'd be in character. Max is a character who is indecisive, and is prone to fussing over mistakes she feels she makes, especially with Chloe. She buries those kinds of feelings in a box until she's forced to confront them. Then she tries to over compensate for her shortcomings. We know she does this because she immediately jumps to help Chloe look for Rachel at the first real chance she gets as a way for her to at least sort of make up for the 5 years of basically no contact. Yeah, there are other reasons she does this, but it can be pretty easily inferred that Max, since Max's whole power allows her to go back in time, which is, in theory, the ultimate way to fix your past mistakes.
I'd be fine if the breakup was purely Max running from a problem she doesn't want to properly deal with. With her being reminded of her choice that killed hundreds of people for one person, even if that person means everything to her. Some people crumple under less, and Max is very much an insecure person, so she'd crumple like a wet napkin eventually.
They could have very easily made a core part of the game Max learning to let go of that part of her past, to finally make peace with her choice. You could even have it be a case where her powers leave her for good, with some kind of, I dunno, storm of butterflies (which I feel could very easily serve as a symbol of Max connection to Chloe, and not as just a symbol for Chloe exclusively). Regardless of the Bae or Bay choice, having her powers literally fly away would also be a way of saying that she's finally "grown up," and that her burdens have been eased, with them flying away with her powers. The guilt? Yeah, there'd always be a little, that shit never goes away, but she'd no longer wallow in it. The trauma? She'd be able to accept it as a thing that happened, and move on in a more healthy way.
If Chloe and her were a couple, maybe she'd end the game with a phone call, reaching out to Chloe in an effort to repair their relationship, to say that she's "done living in the past." She could literally say something like "I'm done rewinding, I'm just going to look to the future, and leave the past where it is." We'd probably all cheer at that kind of sappy bullshit. It'd be sapphic as hell, and it'd be awesome.
But no. That's too nice a thought. Deck Nine had other plans.
In the game, as it is now, there is a distinct problem with the breakup working, and that's the way it happens. In Double Exposure (at least up to Episode 2, as that's all that's currently available), the game is quick to brush aside the idea that Max and Chloe were ever really a thing, and wants the player to go right into being interested in having Max romance the New characters that Deck Nine made for the game! Why'd they break up? Because Chloe is afraid that Max is using her rewind powers (which she supposedly hasn't since Blackwell), and that, because of those powers, she's always going to be living in the past. That she, Chloe fucking Price, just wants to be a free spirit and live for the future, and that, "as much as it hurts," that might be a future without Max in it.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???
Chloe Price, the bony sack of trauma, cigarette smoke, and well documented abandonment issues, is the one breaking off a relationship? Are you serious? You gotta be fucking with me Deck Nine! You wrote a whole ass game about this character, and my opinion of that game aside (I think Before the Storm is dogshit btw), you still miss one of the core aspects of Chloe's whole character? How do you miss the point by this much?
And then... a self-proclaimed former staff member at Deck Nine spoke up on Reddit... said some stuff, and it all started to make sense.
See, Deck Nine has, at least somewhat recently, come under fire for their dogshit working conditions. There were several articles showcasing how toxic that place was to work for a number of reasons by several publications. The writing was on the wall, but a lot of people, myself included, tried to not see it, and just be hopeful for a new LiS game. While I really don't like BtS, I very much enjoyed True Colors, so I was at least a little optimistic.
However, if that supposed former employee is to be believed in any capacity (we can at least say they likely are a former employee, as another former employee basically called them out on Twitter for trying to start a hate brigade... even though they didn't), then Double Exposure was doomed from the start. The creative leads on the project, allegedly, HATE Chloe, and would shoot down ideas that would be more respectful of her in All Hands On Deck (Nine) meetings, even though they asked for ideas due to how they wrote themselves into a bloody corner whilst working on the game the way they did.
Then there's the fact that supposedly some people at the publisher dislike Chloe because they feel that Ashly Burch shit on Before the Storm post-launch (which she didn't, btw), despite her working on a game that replaced her voice with another actress due to a strike. They hired a "scab" to voice the characters, and that might have upset Ashly, a union member. Fair enough. But apparently some people didn't like Rhianna DeVries, which the publisher heard, and said "don't bring her back for any big appearances" or something? So they aren't going to recast again, they aren't going to bring back Ashly for petty reasons, and they aren't going to even bring Rhianna back again (she had a small voice role in True Color's Wavelengths DLC), even though most people are fine with her? Hell, I think she's a damn highlight in the cast for BtS, and I hate that game.
Then I got to thinking: is there evidence that Deck Nine hates Chloe, despite working on Before the Storm? Short answer: I think so, yeah. Long answer? Well...
One thing that is notable about Before the Storm, at least from my perspective, is that said game did a pretty middling job with characters that were introduced in the original game, despite being a prequel. Nathan is nothing like how he is in LiS1, nor is David. Rachel doesn't even remotely come off as the kind of character that people would talk about the way they do in LiS1 after she goes missing (what with her being a big Laura Palmer parallel and all). Fuck, they made Victoria willing to roofie someone to get ahead, which a lot of people called out as tone deaf as hell given what happens to her in LiS1.
But in that same breath, the game introduces a handful of new, Deck Nine original characters, and that's clearly where the effort was. Some were better than others, of course, Samantha was largely pointless and amounted to nothing, Rachel's Parents are just not well written, and Damon is such a bland attempt at a villain... Don't even get me started on the Elliot Rogers looking ass character that shares a first name with that whackjob.
But you wanna know who Deck Nine really likes? Steph Gingrich. And you know what, so do I. I like Steph a lot. She's like, the best thing to come out of that game. But when you pull back and analyze who Steph is, something notable stands out: she's basically Deck Nine's take on "what if Chloe wasn't a bitchy bitch?"
Think about it: Steph is a queer girl wearing a beanie (Chloe's basic aesthetic), enjoys nerdy stuff and Blade Runner (Chloe, even before joining their D&D sessions, was a closet weeb back before she lost her dad), is into punk rock (so much so that she forms a punk band, Drugstore Makeup, with a former girlfriend), likes to smoke weed (to be fair, a lot of characters in LiS do), and even gets a healthy dose of trauma from the storm killing her own mom, or losing two very close friends, one of which is the same person Chloe lost (this is more a Max parallel, but you get it). She even has a pretty distinct "voice" in how she talks that most people can pick out of a crowd pretty easily (which, to be fair, isn't hard, since True Colors has a very muted cast in this respect). Hell, she can even romantically end up with a bisexual with super powers! She's literally just "what if Chloe was more of a nerd and less of an asshole."
This isn't to shit on Steph at all, again, I love Steph, she's great. I'm not even mad about the obvious parallels between her and Chloe. They were friends, of course aspects of them are going to be similar. But when you take those things into consideration when reading that Deck Nine supposedly hates Chloe... and you see how hard the series has pushed Steph (Steph has her own DLC story, a full ass novel about stuff she did between her two appearances, and a comic where she and Alex act as the cool lesbian surrogate parents to a runaway girl with powers), you can sort of pick up on some subliminal parallels. It's hard not to when Deck Nine has a clear bias for a character they made, and how they dislike a character they didn't, despite the overlap.
I could just be reaching, but when I put the pieces in front of me in the context of "Deck Nine hates Chloe" it just adds up. It's kind of hard not to think Deck Nine does hate Chloe, given that before we even find out the specifics of the break up, they have Safi ask Max if she's interested in the new female love interest the devs cooked up immediately after Max tries to basically shut down the conversation about why she and Chloe broke up. Even in the context of Chloe dying, it's clear what they're doing here, and it's not even remotely subtle.
Even if a lot of this is just bullshit, it's clear that Deck Nine had no real intention of "respecting" anything. Why? Because Double Exposure very clearly wants to operate under the pretense that you chose to Sacrifice Chloe. It's the only way the game really works in anyway that's even remotely "respectful" to any fans. The fact that they rejected the premise of DE being set in a timeline where Chloe was definitively DEAD, even though members of the team suggested that should be how they approached this game's story, says that they had no real intention of respecting the integrity of the choice LiS1 players made. Regardless of the reasons why they did this, respect is NOT one of those reasons. They had a story they wanted to tell, but forced themselves to try and fit the square peg into the round hole.
This game already decided to not respect the original creators at Don't Nod by having it be about Max, when they said Max and Chloe's stories were "done." I get it, that's a decision they likely didn't make themselves... but they could have at least tried harder to respect the characters they were given to make a story about a little more.
For all I know, the remaining 3 Episodes of Double Exposure may allow the player to have Max and Chloe reconcile at the end if you don't romance any of the new characters. Maybe that's an ending, and I'm mad for basically just bad writing... but I nevertheless won't be supporting this game with my money as things currently stand.
Okay! So D9 (partially?) confirmed that Max and Chloe broke up after Life is Strange 1 in Bae timeline and why it's a good, logical thing that needed to happen for Max.
First of all, I think it's understandable why they did make them break up. Not because D9 hates Pricefield but this is a game about Max finally facing her traumas. How would they break up? As much as Max says that she and Chloe will be together forever, we forget the aspect of both of them being very problematic. Let's start with Chloe's flaws.
Chloe is so affected by her past that whenever she tries to do something good she can't help but cause more harm, yet she does so little about it. She's so consumed by her grief that all she does is self-pity. It's always someone else's fault and never hers. She also tends to push people into situations they're not comfortable with almost making them hostages of the circumstances.
Max doesn't love herself. She doesn't feel part of the world around her. She feels like she didn't use her powers for true good and only used them for her benefit. Even a part of her doubts if Chloe truly loves her. She is so lacking in confidence, and so afraid of losing her, that all she does is write it down and talk it to herself (literally).
As much as Max and Chloe care for each other, their self-destructive behaviors don't help them much. Lack of communication, selfishness, foolishness even. It's the perfect recipe for a relationship to go catastrophically wrong. And it seems it did. And this is as Life is Strange as it can get.
Life is Strange hits as hard as it does because it feels real. When I go on how flawed Max and Chloe are, I'm not intending to diss the characters but remarking how real they are. Real people have a problematic side, even good people. And even people who love each other can ruin their relationships. Because if you don't love yourself first, loving someone else can only get you so far.
I know the relationship between Max and Chloe is important to many. But life isn't a fairy tale where saying "we'll be together forever" is all you need. Love is something you work on every day. And if you don't, expecting everything to be just fine and taking it for granted, you lose it. But not because you lose something, it means it'll be lost forever. True love prevails even when it seems it's gone. And if you work on yourself and fix what you broke in the first place, your chance to have your happily ever after will be waiting for you.
DE's arc for Max is built upon the premise of exploring her trauma after all that happened in the first game. The thing about trauma is that, no matter how much support you have, if you're not willing to open up and explore it as painful as it may be, there isn't much to be done.
Max bottles up her emotions and tends to deal with an issue until it's up her neck. If the death of Chloe's dad was enough to drive them apart, imagine what watching Chloe die over and over, getting SA'd and almost killed, and tearing reality apart, and the guilt of letting a whole town die did. It's a whole new level of personal conflict that we never saw her overcome, and based on her behavior, don't have many reasons to believe she did. But Safi's death will make her do it and finally face these traumas. And when you face your traumas, there are only two-way outs: sinking even deeper, or coming out to the top, ready to become the best version of yourself. A version capable of loving yourself as much as you love someone else.
It's either they broke up or that line was just a misderection.
Ranking the Miracucast by how good of a Doctor Who Companion they'd be.
Marinette: She'd be great at it, but she would also hate it and just want it to be over. She's tired and has no time for this shenaniganry. Please give her this chance to not be involved. 5/10
Alya: Would have SO MANY QUESTIONS. Could do very well, but I can see her veering dangerously close to Adam Mitchell territory. Careful there, Alya. 7/10
Adrien: Yes. 10/10
Nino: I think he'd be a decent TARDIS passenger, but he's the type that'd be part of an ensemble. Wouldn't work as well as a solo companion. 4/10
Chloe: Sorry Chloe fans, but no. The Doctor can pull a redemption arc out of anyone, but they also have no patience for bullcrap. It's just not happening no matter how much I want it to. 1/10
Sabrina: I think she would be great, but the fandom would not like her as a companion. 6/10
Mylene: Yeah, she would not like it. 0/10
Ivan: If Mylene isn't going, then neither is he. 0/10
Rose: Would be absolutely hilarious due to her name alone. Accompanying a Classic Doctor might be better for her. 7/10
Juleka: I don't care what you say she would be excellent and the fandom would love her. Ironically would probably fit better with a NuWho Doctor. 10/10
Kim: The Doctor does not want Kim in the TARDIS. Kim has been in the TARDIS at least once, and the Doctor has vowed that it will be the last time. They're wrong. 4/10
Max: The Doctor would ADORE Markov. Max would be Markov's plus one. 7/10 by proxy
Alix: Pretty sure she already is a companion. Like. In canon. We haven't seen it but it's definitely happened, fight me. Alix/10
Nathaniel: I want to say he'd be great but in my heart I know he would be Very Stressed. Definitely would not want to travel with the Doctor, but would keep getting dragged along by his friends. The fandom would love him though. 5/10
Lila: As she is now? Absolutely not. The Doctor would despise her. -10/10, BUUUUUUT if she was picked up before Volpina (or pre-Chameleon at the latest) I think she could be redeemed like in the Scarlet Lady AU. She would be hilarious. She gives me Turlough vibes. If the Doctor can deal with Turlough and Missy then he can deal with Lila. She has the potential to be unique and have an interesting character arc compared to other companions, and let's be honest NuWho needs something unique and interesting. 8/10
Luka: Like Nino, he works better as part of ensemble. Would be an excellent supporting character for Marinette or Juleka if they were companions, or maybe be a very cool Oneshot Companion like Wilf. 3/10
Kagami: The Doctor would have their work cut out for them, because Kagami is a "stab first ask questions later" person and the Doctor doesn't vibe with that normally. Neither The Doctor nor Kagami would be happy with this arrangement. So naturally Kagami's sole season would be one of the best in the entire show. 9/10
Marc: He would travel with either the Second or Thirteenth Doctors. He would do wonderfully, but his seasons would definitely be more focused on the Doctor than Marc himself. Sorry Marc. 7/10
Ondine: Is too busy keeping Kim out of trouble. And as stated previously, the Doctor does not want Kim in the TARDIS. 2/10
Felix: I just don't think it would work. Felix could definitely be a major recurring character, but somehow I can't really see him actually being a companion proper. He does get bonus points for being British. Perhaps instead of being a companion he spends his free time annoying Torchwood. 3/10
Zoe: She'd be great. But the universe would be Very Cruel to her. People will die, and she will not be happy about it. 8/10
You know, usually after a decade most people tend to take a step back from the works they love to think about it more objectively but it seems like Pricefielders are still unable to do something that simple.
Seriously, what the fuck. Admire this level of mental gymnastics, we're at least on an Olympic scale right there. It's because of this kind of bullshit that Warren fans and Carlos Luna (his voice actor) got harassed for years and still receive death threats, just because Pricefielders are crybabies who can't cope with their fav also being interested in men and that their precious sapphic ship isn't Max's everything or the whole point of the game.
So given that I've got some time to waste, I will debunk here their delusions, or at least most of them because trust me, the list is long.
1. "Warren is an incel !"
They act as if he's forcing Max to give her affection, regularly crossing her boundaries, is only interested in her for sex and playing the Nice Guys to get in her pants so let's take a look at how he acts through the game and Max's interactions with him :
Regardless of the player's choices, Max introduces him in her diary as a very good friend whom she sees as honest, an ally at Blackwell and someone who makes her smile.
Across the game, she grows even more fond of him after seeing him stood up for her and himself, calling him notably an "Everyday Hero".
Although his attraction to Max is obvious, he doesn't force his feelings on her in any way.
He jokes that being nice means not getting laid⊠Like any 16yo awkward teenager who doesn't know how to talk to girls. Hell, even Max jokes with him about it, get real.
When Nathan threatens Max on the parking, he protects her without any hesitation even though she mentioned he was wielding a gun in the girls' bathroom, and gets beaten up to allow her to flee.
Max can accept to go Ape with him, saying it's exactly what she needs.
She trusts him so much that she wanted to tell him her secret from the start, regardless of how you define the nature of their relationship.
After Kate's suicide (attempt), he comforts Max by putting his arm around her, while making sure to leave some space between them. The kind of sweet thing an incel would NEVER do. No romantic act or intent of any kind here, just a friend worried about someone he cares about. If you see this as a deceitful attempt to get laid, it says more about your view of male-female relationships than it does about him.
If Max failed to save Kate, he reassures her by reminding it's not her fault, something Max speaks about in her diary with "I hung out with Warren on the lawn so I could feel grass under my feet and watch the fluffy clouds. Heâs such a sweetheart, he kept telling me I did everything I could for Kate. Even though I know I didnât.
If she succeed to save her, Warren send her a text about how he's proud of her, to which Max comment in her diary : "Heâs such a sweetheart, he kept telling me how proud he was that I stopped Kate from jumping. I donât believe that I did, but I have to say itâs better to be treated like a hero at school than like a twee loser.â
He helps and informs Max several times throughout the game without asking for anything in return, even if the player refuses to accompany him to the Drive-In, just because they're friends.
Max literally changed his grade into an A to thank him for what he's doing for her, even saying he deserves more.
He stands in front of Nathan once again to save Max and Chloe, even though he was about to draw a gun and that Nathan literally lives in the same corridor as him.
When Warren mentioned at the Vortex Club's party that he's invisible to everyone, Max reassures him by telling him he's important to her.
Unlike most of the cast, he never pressured her to listen to his problems or help him in some way, he's at the contrary the only one who just wants to be there for her.
If Max don't want to go ape with him, he's logically disappointed but he doesn't make a fuss about it, he even jokes about that by quoting a famous line from Planet of Apes.
When you kiss Chloe and the latter texted Warren about it, he get that Max might be interested in someone else and propose to step back while encouraging her to go with Chloe, but Max remains decided to go ape with him if this is what you choose.
Max can literally kiss him to "let him know her feelings", and then comment this choice in her diary with this
2. "He's violent and dangerous, look at what he did to Nathan !"
Nathan was about to kill Max and Chloe, the fuck Warren was supposed to do ? Talking him down ? Yeah sure, great idea. Because it totally worked for Chloe in the bathrooms.
Besides there's a little thingy called "context" that you conveniently forgot once again, here that Nathan bullied him for seemingly a long time and this notably through homophobic slurs. When you push people to their limits and threaten to KILL their friends, you're not the victim.
3. Max's nightmare
For fuck's sake, everyone was horrible during this nightmare sequence, what's even your point ?? That Max would be secretly afraid of him ? Lmao sure, one nightmare sequence based on Max's irrational fears against a whole game of interactions like this one, geez I wonder which side holds more weight than the other...
Her only canon fears are Jefferson, the Dark Room, Chloe using her, and her powers fucking up everything. That's it, nothing about Warren or men in general.
But if this nightmare is allegedly intended to reveal how she really feels about Warren, then what about Chloe ? Because when Max was talking to her own counterpart, the Nightmare Max openly mocked her for letting Chloe bullying her into a Stockholm Syndrome relationship, before adding she'd be even more preoccupied about Chloe killing them than Jefferson.
Hell, even the real Max said in this exchange that Chloe is good at guilt-tripping her.
So if this nightmare was about Maxâs real feelings towards Warren, David or even Samuel, I guess Max is genuinely scared of Chloe for guilt-tripping her into an abusive relationship and leading them to a certain death, right ?
4. "Fans like him only because all the other males in this game are criminals"
That or we just like him because he's a funny, dorky, sensitive and caring nerd who's always willing to listen to Max and protect her at his own risk. Can you guess which option is the good one ?
5. Alyssa
Firstly, nothing in their interactions shows they were that close in the past.
Secondly, blaming someone for having several relationships in the past is the kind of shit you'd be rioting about if it were against Chloe or Rachel but apparently when it's Warren, it's okay.
Thirdly Alyssa is literally one of the most bullied character of this game alongside Kate and Warren so here's a rhetorical question for the slowest in the back : Did Warren or Alyssa might have paired themselves with the other on a school desk for some unexplained reason ? Or way more realistically, someone wrote this to mock them like bullies actually does a lot irl ?
"B-b-but Alyssa hides herself in his shoulder when her close friend jumped from a rooftop, it's definitely a proof !"
You know what, by intellectual charity I will just ignore this, the sheer level of stupidity speaks for itself.
6. "In the alt timeline, he's with Stella ! That proves he's only interested by sex !"
Not only it doesn't prove jack shit on his intentions but watch out you dimwit because this might blow your mind :
This other Warren might have been interested in someone else because in this alternate timeline, Max is an elitist jerk from the Vortex Club ? Same Vortex Club that also includes Nathan Prescott. Why a victim of bullying would be interested by someone who's at best bff with his bullies or at worst a bully herself ?
7. His movies choices
I'm not even kidding, that's a real argument used to trash him. Like wow, he likes "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" and laughed his ass off while watching "Cannibal Holocaust", how shocking I don't know if I could get over it someday.
Apart from the blatant stupidity of this âargumentâ and that his haters apparently never heard of dark humor, it's quite surprising that I don't see anyone criticizing Max for also liking this kind of films.
Besides I like how each time someone talk about that, they conveniently forgot to mention the little note he left with the flash drive, warning Max about the graphic nature of his movies. Almost as if he was aware that it can potentially disturb some people ?
And finally this accusation coming from people who don't bat an eye at Chloe taking drugs, taking money from disabled people or stealing and playing with firearms reeks of irony.
8. "He looked at Kate's video two times and a half !"
Everyone watched it, you fucking idiots. And not only he wasn't proud of that but he was also one of the rare students worried about her from the start. In addition to this, Kate herself called him an angel if Max managed to save her, just saying.
9. "He ditched Brooke for Max"
That's your headcanon. He asked Max first and if the player isn't interested, then he just chose to go with someone else. Believe it or not but people do that all the time, because there's nothing malicious in having back-up plans.
If one of your friend isn't available or interested to go out with you, that doesn't mean you have to cancel your plans.
10. "He photoshopped Max on his selfie !"
Nope he didn't, he just developed the selfie in Jefferson's class and Max made no comment whatsoever on an eventual edit, learn to read properly.
11. "Max doesn't even like him, she's not interested !"
Ohh it's gonna be fun...
So Max isn't interested in him, that's the hill Pricefielders want to die on ? Hm okay, okay... So then, why at several points in the game she admits finding him attractive ?
When Chloe thought Max friendzoned him, why did she immediately denied that ?
Why did Max choose to flirt with him by letting this note in front of his room ?
Why was she hoping that "something" might happen between them by accepting to go Ape with him ?
Why was Max so distressed and sad after seeing Warren with Stella in the alternate timeline ?
Why does she regrets not having kissed Chloe or Warren during the Storm, if the player didn't romance neither of them ?
And at the opposite, why does she openly admits to herself her feelings for him after kissing him ?
"But at some points, Max said Warren is just a little brother to her !"
Oh you mean almost as if Max was a shy and closed teenager with low self-esteem who was mostly searching excuses for herself ?
I probably forgot some other takes along the way but I think I made my point : You guys are desperate to frame him as some creepy incel like Eliot in which Max would be uninterested, to a point where it's both sad and hilarious at once. If coping was a source of energy, I'm sure y'all could supply all the dams in my country.
Max is bisexual, she can be as interested romantically in Warren as with Chloe and independently of your choices, she will always value him as someone very important to her.
And this, it's not arguable. It's not subjective. It's factual, as evidenced in this post. If you can't cope with that, fuck off.
