[ID: Black and white comic of Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun Maximum. Vash overhears a conversation from a nearby table at the restaurant they're seated at, the unnamed character saying, "Honey, can you pass me that?" Their partner says, "Sure thing, angel." The unnamed character begins again, "Say, did you hear the news from earlier?" In response, "Haven't got the chance. Tell me about it?" Vash smiles fondly, listening in as the conversation continues, "You'd never guess, babe! The runner--" Abruptly, the conversation is cut in by a "Needle nogging", Vash's expression changing instantly and no longer smiling. The panel cuts to Wolfwood who smiles lop-sidedly, pointing at Vash's plate and says, "If you're not going to eat that. I'll take it." Vash grabs the plate and holds it away and says, "Mine" while Wolfwood clicks his tongue. He pauses for a moment before asking slowly, "Hey, is there any reason you don't use cute names with me?" Wolfwood lifts a cup of water up to his lips, looking confused. He says, "I do though." Vash cuts in, "Spikey and needle nogging aren't cute!"
Vash continues with a shy expression, "Since we're together now..." he trails off and Wolfwood picks up, taking a sip of water as he says thoughtfully, "Together, huh..." Vash pauses in his sentence with a look of confusion before reaffirming, "We are together, right?" Wolfwood nods, "Right." Vash says, "Right", before continuing, his shy expression returning, "Then you can use stuff like... honey or-" Wolfwood cuts in this time and says casually, "You're not a honey though." A panel cuts of Vash's expression changing again, shocked. He asks, "Huh? Then who is?" Wolfwood says immediately, "Milly." Vash exclaims, "Milly?!" Wolfwood continues, "She's sweet, just like honey." A bubble pops up of Milly smiling as Wolfwood speaks. Vash continues, "Okay, true... What about sweetpea?" Wolfwood responds, "Kids. Kids are sweetpea. And pumpkin too." Vash continues, "Okay... What about baby?" Wolfwood says without hesitation, "Meryl." Vash exclaims again, "Meryl?!" Wolfwood explains," Noisy, like a baby." Vash mutters, "Hey, that's a bit mean..."
Vash continues persistently, "Then what about babe?" Wolfwood shrugs with a grin, "You are not a babe." Vash looks at him, slightly frustrated before exclaiming with flushed cheeks, "Then what am I?!" Wolfwood points at his hair and smiles softly, "I told you. You're the one and only needle nogging." A panel closes in on Vash's widen eyes, cheeks still red, pausing before he ultimately resigns, planting his face into the palms of his hands and muttering, "I give up..." At the same time, Wolfwood sneaks and grabs the plate of food that Vash left unattended, saying in response, "You get up cuaght up about the dumbest things, y'know that?"
The comic then picks up again to a jump in time, after they've left the restaurant. Wolfwood muses to Vash, "You said all that about the names earlier, but I don't hear ya using them for me." Vash looks to him excitably and asks, "Did you want me to?" Wolfwood looks at him with an uncertain expression, "Not really, but I guess I am curious..." Vash beams, "Then let's try some, okay... dear?" He fingerguns Wolfwood with a grin, little hearts surrounding him. Wolfwood just looks at him neutrally and says, "Okay," while thinking to himself, "Cute..." Vash exclaims, "So unenthusiastic!"
The next comic picks up at a different time, but on the same theme of pet names. Vash hugs Wolfwood and says to him, "Thank you, my love." A panel close up of Vash steadily opening his eyes before he sees Wolfwood's reaction up close, his eyes glancing away, cheeks flushed, and the smoke out of his cig forming soft hearts as he mutters, "Sure..." In a smaller, cartoonish style, Vash has a comedically exaggerated expression of shock and widened eyes as he grips Wolfwood by the shoulders while Wolfwood still wears a shy expression. He then nudges his head to the side of Wolfwood's with a close eyed happy smile, hugging him close and says, "So, there WAS one you liked!" Wolfwood, still looking away, but now with an irritated and embarrassed expression, grumbles, "Shut up..."
The final image is a short sequence. Wolfwood is working on something, spacing out as he does, while Vash from off screen calls for him, starting with "Babeeee? Babe? Beautiful? Honey? My love?" All of which gets no reaction from Wolfwood. Vash pauses for a moment before piping up again, "wolfwood?" Wolfwood turns around, finally noticing that Vash was calling for him and asks, "What?" A box at the bottom of the page says, "Unresponsive to anything other than his names." END ID]
#vashwood#vash the stampede#nicholas d wolfwood#trigun#trigun maximum#ULTIMATELY the most convenient is to stick to needle noggin and wolfwood because it just makes the most sense to them. i also think the way#they refer to each other is such a like.. distancing manner at first.#because i think wolfwood DID call vash by his name at first right?? i mean it was spiraling from vash the stampede to vash and then to#spikey in that one town near the beginning of maximum#i dont know how to word it but the fact they call each other these particular monikers that dont get regularly echoed by others#IN PARTICULARLY needle noggin being SO specific to vash from wolfwood really pushes in the special place wolfwood has in vash's life.#wolfwood doesnt get the name wolfwood used for him often too. hes been called priest chapel nicholas nico....#but vash uses wolfwood out of all of them. kills me every time#its just like the safest name for him. the thing about wolfwood is that it still is universally used for him too. he introduces himself as#nicholas d wolfwood to others as seen from when he first met vash.... regular citizens or kids mightv called him mr wolfwood and stuff...#so it kind of settles itself as a name for the mundane for safety for comfort.#but then they call each other by their first names in vol 10 and i . shatter sfx. needle noggin and wolfwood are so Precious to them for#each other but they're capable of using each other's first names too in such a gentle manner. i mean when vash used nicholas#it was in comforting gesture too. nicholas is who melanie and the kids know and that nicholas is still very much there even pass#the bloodshed. and when ww uses vash so his family knows of vash and his identity and the safety the name vash reflects...

ive accepted that i am the only person who is or ever will be dedicated to calling the Trigun character "Lazlo" because the R and L sounds are the same in japanese so his name was definitely supposed to be Lazlo and Dark Horse just fucked it up. The Dark Horse english translation of TriMax is wonky in several other places too so it's not even surprising that someone had never heard the name "Lazlo" before but I don't ever see anyone calling her "Tessla" but IT'S FINE it's fine I'm at peace with everyone calling him Razlo forever . it's fine to me that Dark Horse made his name be Razlo forever and it will be fine if the Crunchyroll sub and dub of Tristamp 2 call him Razlo I will be FINE WITH IT
#the true ultimate rebuttal to this would be to say 'well i guess his name is Bash the Stampede then :/'#because thats true and I dont want to call him that. but like Bash isnt a name and neither is Vash. but Razlo isnt a name and Lazlo IS#AND it ALLITERATES WITH LIVIO. THEIR NAMES ARE ALLITERATIVE AND MATCHY THEY START AND END WITH THE SAME LETTER. ITS COOL#im normal.#my trigun#adddna#like Im just saying IM JUST SAYING nightow picked a lot of european and american names like nicholas and milly. Lazlo is a european name!!!

Have you heard about the news with Nicholas Braun?
yup. it was all over twitter and i was so disappointed of him and i hate him for that. i hope everyone who was affected by his disgusting actions, especially those who are brave enough to come out and speak up, are doing better now.
personally though i will still continue watching succession because this is one of my favorite shows for years and i can't let one horrid man ruin that for me. it's going to be a weird couple of weeks and consuming this show wouldn't be as fun as before, especially as someone enjoys making art of greg and tomgreg in extension. but we move
#ask#i'm trying to separate the fictional character greg from the actor nicholas braun because they are not the same person#it's hard bc they share the same face and voice and i couldnt help but get pissed at him sometimes bc it just reminds me of That#but greg isn't nick and i will continue loving cousin greg from succession#and wont be bringing up nick in this blog again#but if you guys are uncomfortable of seeing greg content from my blog feel free to unfollow mute or block me#youre ur own person and i am mine so do what you think is best for you. this is just me and my take on this#nicholas braun#tagging the name for people here who have his name muted and didnt want this topic in their dash

i'm actually obsessed with this line from chapter 6 of trigun maximum. this might be my favourite scene so far!!!
bonus cool vash panel from the same scene because it's so *chef's kiss*:
#i haven't read past it but it's obvious this is such a character rebuilding moment for vash#the way vash 'peace and love' stampede who refuses to kill and wants to be kind to all humans is confronted with a deeply recurrent ethical#question in our society which is : is it ok to kill someone if they have committed an atrocious crime?#he is obligated to ask himself who is he to impose his beliefs on this man that is carrying such a deep wound and hurting with him because#of the person he wants to save in a matter of seconds...#it's him coming to terms that peace and love are good in theory but in practicality morality is so much more a grey area than his - until#now - black and white thinking#if my beliefs are wrong does that make me a bad person? but are my beliefs wrong if my intentions have always been the best?#idk vash being the character he is has always had great potential to be thrown into situations that challenge his morals and deep rooted#beliefs besides the humanity vs plant motif and i'm so glad he is being presented these fille as#dilemas* (pardon)#it's very satisfying and i'm very excited to see the way he will handle all of this and what he will take from it#also excited to see nicholas' stance and progression throughout the manga#trigun has been such a pleasant read :D#all the characters are so good!!!!#i'm also surprised how the story is so different from stampede#i can't wait to know more about knives in the manga#so far i'm enjoying knives in stampede quite a lot (also the fact he named himself post everything and hasn't been knives from the start)#i thought it was a cool detail#anyways that's all#i had to make a post cause i can't find any post with this scene and this made me extremely excited đ#trigun spoilers#< gonna tag it for the people reading the manga atm like me i hope this is okay tell me if you want me to tag it differently

I didnât realize just how much I walked my dog on a daily basis until a neighbor pointed it out. My boy is an American Pit Bull Terrier mix, so he has a ton of energy and needs an outlet and Iâm used to taking him for long, frequent walks. I guess Iâm so accustomed to Nicholas and his needs that I forget that not all dogs are as active! The Czar would not be happy if he were under-stimulated. In fact, heâd probably eat my couch.

unadulterated loathing (pt 1)
pt 2
pairing: fiyero tigelaar x fem reader
summary: you are forced to partner up with fiyero on a history project. things donât go as you imagine.
a/n: wicked was really good, i love jonathan bailey, and we're coming up on finals season which means im writing about how stressed i am. also halfway through this i realized reader is lowkey paris geller coded lmao. this got away from me so im splitting it into 2 parts, i had a lot of fun writing it so enjoy! also im high posting this so if there's any editing issues im sorry lol!!
wc: 5.5k
warning(s): reader is stressed to the max constantly. she is kinda mean to fiyero but he's into it so it's okay. mostly fluff
Your fingers were beginning to cramp.Â
You should have been used to this by now with Doctor Dillamond. Youâd been in his class for a few months now, and you graded essays for him often. He often had a propensity for verbosity, but this lecture had been an especially hefty one in preparation for your midterm projects.
He would be announcing partners before the end of classâmuch to your dismay, for you worked far better on your own than with others holding you downâand you figured you would want to have as much of a head start as possible.Â
Great Oz, how you hoped you would be paired with one of your friends. Coralie and Ezura were your only contenders for top of the classâElphaba had potential as well, not because of the magic she couldnât control but because of the brain she very well couldâand anyone else would frankly slow you down. Doing a large research paper with someone who didnât care as much as you did would be a drag you didnât care to go through.Â
Midterms were only the most important thing, for they set the track towards finals and affirmed your skill with your assignments, and your first midterm was potentially the most important thing for, when completed successfully, set you on the correct track altogether.Â
You tried not to think about it too much (though you failed almost immediately), for you were sure Doctor Dillamond would honor all the work youâd done for him by putting you with a suitable partner.Â
âI see some of you are getting restless, so I will cut class short today.â Your eyes snapped up from your paper to see the professor smiling, and you could hear sighs of relief around the room. âIâm sure youre all eager to know your partners for the midterm paper.âÂ
The sighs of relief turned to groans, and you had to agree. Assigned partners should have been considered archaic at this point in time.Â
Doctor Dillamond trotted back to the projector and, with a bit of difficulty, replaced the image with a piece of paper. Everybody in the class was paired off in groups of twoâyou immediately started searching for your name, squinting slightly to see despite your spot in the front, and the furrow between your brows deepened when you realized you couldnât find it.Â
You searched instead for your hopeful options. Coralie was with Mayara, Ezura was with Nicholas, Elphaba was with Galindaâof course. You let out a slight huff of annoyance, not just at your disappointment but at the continued lack of your name.Â
Perhaps heâd merely forgotten. You didnât know how Dillamond could have forgotten you, seeing as you were only his best student and literal TA, but things happened. Your anxieties only grew as you heard the beginnings of whispers throughout the room as your classmates saw their pairings, either excited or dismal.Â
âClass is dismissed,â Doctor Dillamond said. The room began bustling as students gathered their things, already talking with their friends or searching out their project partnerâyou heard Galinda squeal and saw her grab Elphabaâs hands out of your peripherals. You could only worry your lip between your teeth as you swept everything in your bag, hardly waiting a second before rushing up to Dillamondâs desk.Â
âYou didnât call my name, professor,â you said, managing a smile as you tried to act like it wasnât killing you. How could he have not called your name? Was there something wrong? Great Ozâ had you been somehow moved out of the class? Was your work not exemplary enough? Your assistance not assisting enough? âI donât have a partner.âÂ
His mouth opened, but you only found yourself continuing, the words practically tumbling out of you. Â
âOf course, if you intended for me to be on my own then I am perfectly alright with that!â Your smile widened as your fingertips dangled over his desk. âIâ I prefer it, in fact, so if that is it then there is really no issue at allââ
âMr. Tigelaar!â he interrupted, and your head turned on instinct to see the eponymous boy arm in arm with Galinda (who was arm in arm with Elphaba) just in front of the door. âI hope you are not about to leave.â
Fiyero flashed a look at his companions before offering one of those easy smiles he seemed to always have up his sleeve. âYou dismissed the class. I believe I am part of your class, am I not?â
âYou are,â he said, âbut you were not assigned a partner. Surely you wouldnât be trying to get out of the project.â
Your free hand clenched as the threads started to connect. Doctor Dillamond wouldnât do this to you. Would he?
That easy smile remained on his lips as he turned to Galinda and whispered something in her ear. She giggled and pecked him on the cheek before she walked out, pulling Elphaba behind her, and Fiyero sauntered over.Â
âOf course Iâm not trying to get out of it,â he said. âWhyever would you think so?â
âYour attempt at a quick exit before you could be assigned a partner,â the professor said. âBut it is no matter, for your partner is right here.â
You blinked. He would do this to you.
Why would he do this to you?
âWell, pleasure to meet you.â He held out his hand. âFiyero Tigelaar.â
You ignored him, for you couldnât look away from Doctor Dillamond. Would it be mad for you to strangle a Goat?
âProfessor,â you said, trying to keep your voice steady, âwhy?â
âMr. Tigelaarâs grades in my class have not been satisfactory, as Iâm sure he is aware.â Dillamond moved away from his desk, prodding the chalkboard with his head to move it out of the way. âI care about all my students, even if they seem not to care for my course. I believe a partnership for the two of you would be beneficial.â
Your jaw clenched. âSo youâre forcing me to tutor him because he hasnât got a brain.â
Fiyero chuckled. âOuch.â
âNot tutoring, just working on your midterm together,â he said. âAnd if you end up teaching him a few things along the way, then we would all be better off, wouldnât we?âÂ
âProfessor, with all due respect, this is ridiculous!â you exclaimed. âWhy should I have to risk my grade, my midterm, my standing altogether at Shiz just to help him?âÂ
âShould you perform the way that is typical of you, there should be no issues.â Doctor Dillamond gave you that professorly look and your teeth grinded against each other. How dare he try to take the moral high ground. âNow, the two of you better hurry off. You havenât got forever to work on this project.âÂ
âProfessor,â you whispered, determined to not let up, âwhy are you punishing me like this?â
âIâm not punishing you, my dear.â
âFiyero couldnât care less about any of this,â you insisted. âIâm going to fail my midterm and it will be all his fault!â
âIf you believe he can make you fail, then you havenât got as much faith in yourself as I believed.â Doctor Dillamond looked at you. âTrust meâand yourselfâthat this will all work out.â
You stared backâit was rather difficult to have a staring contest with a Goat. âI donât suppose I can change your mind on this?â
âYouâd be correct.â
You huffed and glanced away. âFine. But expect those test scores to take an extra day.â
He let out a bleaty sort of laugh while you walked away. You considered it a credit to yourself that you held back the childish tantrum you wanted to throw as you moved back over to your desk to gather the rest of your things. You shoved your books into your bag with a bit more anger than necessary, and you heard footsteps behind you. You glanced over to see Fiyero sidled up beside you, leaning against the desk next to yours.Â
âSurely you wonât be this irritated at me the entirety of our project.â He still had that unbothered smile on his lips, and it made you want to hit him. âIt might make this a much more miserable partnership.â
You let out a mirthless laugh as you shouldered your bag. âDonât act like this pains you. Youâre just going to ride my coattails the entire time.âÂ
âYou know, I hadnât even thought of that,â Fiyero mused. âBut now that you bring it up, I just may have to.âÂ
âFor the love of Oz,â you muttered to yourself before mustering the strength to look up at him. âI have a myriad of things I need to do today. Why donât you go bother your girlfriend for the rest of the day, and then you can meet me at the library first thing tomorrow morning so we can discuss all of this.âÂ
He shrugged. âSounds alright to me.âÂ
âGood,â you said. âBecause I meant every word I said back there. I will not have you ruining all my progress thus far because of your absolute refusal to think.âÂ
âIt looks as if you could take a page out of my book,â Fiyero said. âYou seem awfully stressed.âÂ
Your lips tightened into a mirthless smile. âIâm stressed because of you, Fiyero, and we have hardly even interacted. I dread to think of my mental state after a week of working together. Now, good day. Iâll see you tomorrow.âÂ
You swept past him and walked out of Doctor Dillamondâs classroom. You felt his eyes on you until you turned the corner, and you had to resist the urge to look back.Â
Oh, how you loathed group projects.Â
-
The rest of your day was far more demanderating than it should have been, and you blamed Fiyero for it. You swore the clock went by half as quick and your lectures twice as longâit didnât help that you were so distracted in chemistry that you nearly burned your eyebrows off from a potion gone wrong.Â
Youâd practically thrown yourself onto your bed when you got back to your dorm, and you didnât get up until your roommate got back and demanded to know what had gotten into you. She didnât exactly give you the response you wanted.Â
âThe prince is your partner?â Coralie sighed dreamily. âOh, you are so lucky.âÂ
âLucky is not the way Iâd put it,â you mumbled, words muffled by the sheets. You finally tore yourself up off your bed and picked your nightgown up from atop your dresser. You went behind your folding sheet and began to change. âAnd I didnât know you had eyes for Fiyero.âÂ
âI hardly have eyes for him,â she said wryly. âI just have eyesâanyone can see that heâs attractive.âÂ
âIt doesnât matter how attractive he is if he makes me fail this midterm,â you said. You straightened your nightgown then folded your school uniform while you walked back into the open, passing a glance at your roommate as you placed it on your desk. You then settled on your bed with a huff. âI just donât understand why Doctor Dillamond is punishing me like this. It makes me reconsider all those late nights spent grading papers for him.âÂ
Coralie shrugged. âYouâre one of his best students, Fiyero is probably one of his worst. I bet Doctor Dillamond figured you would be happy to take him on, what with how happily you take on everything else he throws at you.âÂ
You grumbled as you laid back against your pillows. âI just donât know if I can take him on. Fiyero seems to care more about flirting with every student at this school than any actual material.âÂ
She gave you a mischievous smile. âMaybe heâll turn the full force of his affections on you in return for your studiousness. Oh, how that would be a sight to see.âÂ
âDonât even put that idea into the air, Cora,â you scoffed. âBesides, heâs clearly involved with Galinda. Even if I was interested, which Iâm notââ you emphasized with a pointed look at herâ âthat isnât something I want to touch.âÂ
âWell, you canât deny that heâs dreamy,â she said. âHe just showed up at Shiz and people started falling left and right. Itâs more impressive that you havenât.âÂ
âBecause Iâm here for one reason,â you said. âHis whole⌠thing doesnât fit into any of it.âÂ
âI know,â Coralie mused as she fell back onto her pillows. âYouâve told me your whole plan ten times over. I just think you should also try to enjoy your life instead of bulldozing your way through it.âÂ
You rolled your eyes with a smile. âIâm enjoying my life just fine, thank you.âÂ
Interestingly enough, Fiyero was going through something similar a myriad of rooms away.Â
He laid on Galindaâs bed, his head in her lap as she trailed her fingers through his hair. Sheâd been going on about something for the last couple of minutes, but he hadnât really been able to focus on any of it.Â
âDearest, did you not hear what I said?âÂ
Fiyero blinked at the sound of Galindaâs voice. He hadnât indeed.Â
âIâm sorry, beloved.â He absentmindedly reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze once he found it. âI was thinking.âÂ
Elphaba laughed from across the room. She sat on her bed with a book in her lap. âThatâs a first for you.âÂ
âIt is,â Galinda said, though with much more concern laced in her voice. Her hand moved from his hair to his forehead. âAre you feeling alright?â
âJust fine,â he assured. âWhat was it you were saying?âÂ
âJust lamenting on how awful it is that weâve been separated for this project,â she sighed. âIâm sure I could persuade Doctor Dillamond to put us in a group of three.â
âYou canât even get him to pronounce your name correctly,â Elphaba said wryly. âHow could you get him to do this?âÂ
âWell,â Galinda huffed, âmaybe you could do it. He appears to like you more than me.âÂ
âIâm sure that really hurts,â she said.Â
Galinda placed her hand on her chest. âIt does!âÂ
âItâs fine,â Fiyero interrupted. âIâm alright with my partner. Sheâs nice.âÂ
âNice?â Elphaba scoffed. âI heard her lecturing you the whole time we were out in the hallway.âÂ
âSheâs passionate,â he decided. âBesides, I donât really care. I havenât thought about it since she left.âÂ
That was a complete lie. In truth, Fiyero hadnât been able to stop thinking about you since you left. Very strange for someone who preferred to go through life with less thinking and more doing.Â
He honestly didnât know why his mind was so occupied with you.Â
Heâd always been aware of you, obviouslyâall your professors adored you, your name was always brought up when talking about top of the class, and he was sure you held the record for most time spent in the library at onceâbut he didnât know anything about you other than your academic record. And for someone with such strong opinions, especially about him, Fiyero found himself with the strange need to know more.Â
He would be at the library tomorrow. Maybe not on time, but certainly there.Â
Fiyero would make this the beginning of a beautiful partnership, one way or another.
-
True to your word, you were in the library bright and early after a quick stop at the dining hall. You went through the effort of gathering everything you thought you would needâa myriad of textbooks and encyclopedias, your well-weathered notebook and another one for Fiyero because you doubted he had one, and enough writing material for the two of you.
You sighed. You had to do so much just to even the ground between your groups and the others. Coralie was always so prepared whenever you worked together.Â
Fiyero, to your surprise, was only ten minutes late. You already had your head buried in a book when he said your name and scared you witless.Â
Your eyes widened as they darted up to look at him, and he chuckled.Â
âSorry. You were in the zone.â
âI just wasnât expecting you,â you said. âYouâre late.â
âHardly.â Fiyero took the seat across from you, his eyes sweeping over everything you had on the table. âYouâve got quite a collection.â
âI doubt you know your way around the library,â you said.Â
âI know my way around a lot of things.âÂ
You leveled your gaze at him. Leave it to Fiyero to make everything an innuendo. âAnd is a library one of them?â
âIâm sure I could make it one.â
âIf you bothered to think at all.â
âDarling, you know Iâd never,â he said with a smile. âNow, what are we doing here?â
âDo you really not know what our midterm is?â you marveled.Â
âI have more important things to worry about,â he said.Â
You scoffed and shook your head. Ridiculousâ it was ridiculous that you had to put up with this. Maybe Doctor Dillamond really did hate you.
âOur assignment is an extensively researched ten page paper on any great Ozian,â you said. âAnyone who has contributed to our society in a relevant way and made our lives better for it.â
âA ten page paper?â Fiyero frowned. âThat seems a bit much.â
âBetween the two of us, itâs just five pages each, and weâve got two weeks to get it done,â you said. âIâve written five pages in a few hours of inspiration.â
âYour life truly sounds thrilling,â Fiyero said. âWe could do the Wizard.â
âHalf the class is going to do the wizard,â you scoffed.Â
âBecause heâs a great man,â he said. âThereâs no shame in it.â
âThere is absolutely shame in copying half the class,â you said as you pushed over a sheet of paper to him. âNow, Iâve already got a list going. Look it over; see if thereâs anyone you like or anyone worthwhile you want to add.â
You looked back down at your encyclopedia, opened to your personal favorite choice, and continued scribbling down basic notes. You glanced up a few moments later to see Fiyeroâs gaze hadnât wavered from you.Â
You frowned. âIs there a problem?â
âYouâre awfully prepared,â he said instead.Â
âI figured you wouldnât be,â you responded.
Fiyeroâs lips quirked in a smile. âThen I believe that means you deserve to choose our subject.â
Your frown deepened. âReally?â
âAre you always this suspicious of everyone?â
âJust you.â
âThen consider this an olive branch,â he said. He slid the paper back over. âWhoâs your top choice?â
ââŚIlara Mayfair,â you finally said as you pointed at her on the top of your list. âShe was a historical linguist, responsible for half of what we know about Ozian languages and how they connect and differ. SheâsâŚâ you cleared your throat and shrugged, trying to make it sound like it wasnât a big deal, âsheâs kind of my hero.â
âYour hero?â Fiyeroâs eyebrows rose. âIs that what you want to do?âÂ
ââŚItâs always been my dream,â you admitted. âI grew up helping around my parentsâ bookstore and her mark was on nearly everything. I really admire it. I want to make that sort of difference in the world.â
âHow noble,â he remarked. What surprised you was how genuine he sounded. âItâs impressive how much of your life you have planned out already. All Galinda knows is that sheâs majoring in sorceryâshe hasnât really got anything else worked out.â
âWhat are you majoring in?â you asked.
âUndecided,â Fiyero said. âI was kicked out of my last school before I could declare, so I figure thereâs not really a point in doing it here.â
âNot really a surprise,â you said.Â
âReally?â
âOn your first day, you snuck off campus with half of Shiz to go dance at Ozdust,â you said. âThatâs not exactly a good first impression.âÂ
âIâd argue the opposite,â he said. Fiyero tilted his head, his eyes narrowing as he focused on you for a moment. His gaze made you uncomfortably aware of yourself. âI donât recall seeing you there.âÂ
âThatâs because I wasnât there.â You looked back down at your encyclopedia to avoid his eyes. âI had more important things to do.âÂ
He frowned. âDo you ever take a day off?âÂ
âOf course,â you said. âThere isnât any class on the weekends.âÂ
âI mean with this,â he said, gesturing at all the books around you. âIt doesnât seem like you allow yourself a single moment of respite. When youâre not in class, youâre studying. When youâre not studying, youâre doing work. When youâre not doing any of it, youâre probably dreaming of your future assignments.âÂ
You felt your skin heat. Surely you werenât that transparent.Â
â...I donât dream of them,â you defended. âNotâ not always.âÂ
He laughed and shook his head. âYouâre ridiculous. Do you know that?âÂ
You frowned. âHow am I ridiculous? Youâre incapable of taking a single thing seriously.âÂ
âAnd youâre incapable of not taking everything seriously,â Fiyero said. âIt canât be good for your health.âÂ
âI plan to get out of here a year early,â you said, looking back at your books. âI canât slack off like you do if I want that plan to come to fruition.âÂ
âOh, Iâve gotten out of every school Iâve been in a year early,â Fiyero said. âSometimes two or threeâ Oz, sometimes I donât even make it through the first semester.âÂ
Your eyes snapped back up to him, widened in instinctual panic. âWhat?âÂ
He burst out laughing, and it grinded every one of your gears. âOh, I wish you could see the look on your face! Itâs pricelessâ truly priceless!âÂ
âYouâve been kicked out of every school youâve been to and you think itâs a joke?âÂ
Still laughing, he shrugged. âIt is. Nothing bad has happened, and Iâm still having the time of my life wherever I go.âÂ
You just shook your head as you stared at him, eyes still wide. âAre you always like this?â
âUtterly charming?âÂ
âEntirely insufferable.â
You didnât understand how he laughed. Everything rolled right off him, like oil off a duckâs back, no matter how many times you insulted him.Â
âYou know, there are other things to life than your studies,â he said.
âNot while Iâm here, there isnât,â you said. âItâs the whole point of university.âÂ
âThe point of university is to have fun,â he said. âYouâve seen how this place has perked up since Iâve gotten here, havenât you?âÂ
âNot really, no,â you said. âIâve been more focused on other things.âÂ
âLike?âÂ
âLike my studies.âÂ
âItâs like Iâm talking to a broken record,â he marveled. âHave you ever had fun in your life?â His eyes widened comically. âDo you even know what the concept of fun is?âÂ
âHa ha,â you said dryly.Â
He tilted his head. âDo you?âÂ
You frowned. âOf course I do.âÂ
âOkay, then.â Fiyero leaned back in his chair. âTell me about yourself.â
Your frown deepened. âWe arenât doing a research paper on me.â
âWeâre working together on this,â he said. âIs it a crime to want to know my partner?â
A muscle worked in your jaw as you stared at him. He stared back, entirely unaffected.Â
âIf I humor you, will you actually work with me through this?â
Fiyero held up his hand. âPrinceâs honor.â
Finally, you broke. You folded your arms with a short sigh then glanced away. âFine. Iâm from a tiny village in Gillikin that youâve probably never heard of. Iâm here on scholarship with the plan to graduate, become a historian, and make a name for myself.â You looked back at him. âIs that good enough for you?â
âItâs excellent,â Fiyero said with a smile. âDare I say Iâve learned more about you in one short day than I have in the entirety of my time at Shiz?â
You gave him a fake smile as you tapped your book. âOpen your textbook. We have a lot to catch up on.â
He raised his eyebrows. âYouâre not going to ask about me?â
âI mean this with all due respectâwhat could there possibly be to know about you?â You raised an eyebrow as you counted off on your fingers. âYouâre from the Vinkus, youâre a prince, and youâve never read a book a day in your life.âÂ
âOh, thatâs not true,â he chastised. âIâve read at least oneâI just choose not to.âÂ
âWell, how about we make that two?â You reached across the table and opened his book for him. âUnless that princeâs honor isnât worth a thing.âÂ
âOh, itâs worth everything,â Fiyero said.Â
You raised your eyebrows expectantly. âThen prove it.âÂ
âVery well,â he nodded. âI believe I can be serious for the next⌠fifteen minutes.âÂ
âYou wonât even get through a chapter,â you said. âThirty.âÂ
Fiyero frowned. âYou set awfully high expectations.âÂ
âWhy do you think Doctor Dillamond forced me to help you?â you asked.Â
âBecause youâre oh so nice and charitable?â
That got a genuine laugh out of you. If youâd been looking closer, you would have seen Fiyeroâs smile grow, his eyes soften.Â
âOf course. Now, go to the glossary, find Ilara, and start writing. I know practically everything about her already, so you need to catch up.â
âI donât haveââ
You held out your extra notebook and fountain pen and cocked your head. âDonât have what?â
Fiyero chuckled as he took them from you. âYouâre prepared for everything, arenât you?â
âAlways,â you said with a satisfied smile. âNow get reading, my prince.â
He pressed his hand to his chest and bowed his head. âAt once, my lady.â
-
You looked at the clock on the wall. Fiyero should have been here by now.Â
Granted, he was ten minutes late to your first meeting, but that was before heâd changed your expectations ever so slightly. Almost an hour had passed, and there was still no sign.Â
Of course, it wasnât as if it hindered your progress. You kind of always expected him to fall shortâif he showed at all, that was a credit to himâso you already had half the outline done. But a small part of you that youâd never admit to might have actually been looking forward to his presence.Â
You enjoyed the bout of verbal sparring he engaged you in. A lot of your classmates thought you were mean, and it never bothered you. Like you told Fiyero, you were here for one reason and one only, and the amount of people that liked you at university didnât influence that at all. Your professors liked you and your grades were perfectâthat was all.Â
But you couldnât lie and say it wasnât⌠nice. For Fiyero to take everything you said in stride, with a smile and a retort of equal measure.
It was nice. But that was all.Â
You were jarred out of your thoughts by someone calling your name. You looked up to see Fiyero sauntering over, bearing his usual smile and not much else.
âThis is a library,â you said once he got closer. âYou arenât supposed to shout.â
He took the seat across from you. âIâd hardly call that shouting.â
âYou arenât meant to be loud,â you decided. âWhy are you so late?â
Fiyero shrugged. âI lost track of time?â
âYou know, we are partners,â you emphasized your last word, âso it would be helpful if you could try to put in the same amount of effort as me.â
âThat seems impossible.â He gestured at your notebook with his head, your current page already nearly full. âYouâve got me beat on nearly everything.â
âItâs not that difficult,â you intoned. âI mean, just do some research outside of class.â
He stared at you expectantly, and you rolled your eyes. âI donât know what I expect with you, honestly.â
âExactly what you see, darling. Now,â Fiyero's gaze drifted over to the window, then looked back at you as he stood up, âwhat do you say we put a hold on things and enjoy this beautiful day?âÂ
Your brows furrowed. âWhat, you mean do our research outside?âÂ
âIs your work truly all you think about?â he asked in exasperation. âI mean leave the books and your notes and your stress here, and take a stroll around campus.âÂ
âIâve had my entire life planned out since I was ten years old,â you said. âOf course it is. I am not going to have someâ someââ
âSome what?â Fiyero interrupted. He still looked remarkably unaffected by your outburst, that sideways smile of his infuriatingly charming.Â
âSome ridiculous, pompous, self-absorbed, lazy Winkie prince ruin it!â you exclaimed.Â
âLazy,â he mused. âThatâs a new one.âÂ
âOf course youâre lazy! Why would we take a break when we have a project to do?âÂ
Fiyero looked at you like you were crazyâ no, like he was worried about you. He shook his head. âYou really do have a one track mind.âÂ
âWhen weâre in midterm season, yes, I dâ what are you doing?â
Fiyero had started stacking all of the books you had on the table away from you, then he grabbed your notebook and your pen out of your hand.
âYou need a break,â he said.Â
âI donât need a break, and give that backââ
You reached for your materials but only just grazed his hand before he pulled them back and set them on top of the pile. âWhen was the last time you saw the sun?âÂ
You scoffed. âI see the sun all the time.âÂ
âNot from a window in the library or your dorm.âÂ
You bit your tongue. Fiyero smiled and held out his hand.Â
âYou need a break.âÂ
You stared at his hand. He gave you a cloying look.Â
âItâs not a good sign that youâre this against self-care,â he said wryly.Â
You sighed and reluctantly placed your hand in his. âFine.â
Fiyero grinned and he pulled you close. You yelped at the unexpected speed and you tumbled into his chest. Fiyeroâs hand dropped to your waist, and for a moment all you could do was stare at him, wide eyed.Â
âShall we?â he murmured.Â
You jolted away from him once you came back into yourself, your skin burning where heâd touched you.Â
âWe shall,â you said, a bit too forcefully as you started walking a bit too fast.Â
Fiyero chuckled. He matched your pace easily, soon coming up beside you. âYouâre already that excited?â
âOh, shut up,â you bit out. âYouâve already gotten what you want. No need for more.â
He feigned naivety. âWhat would I possibly be doing?â
You shook your head with a huff. âIâm not entertaining that with a response.â
Fiyero simply hummed. You glanced over at him, still staying even with you, and then you let out another huff as you stopped. He didnât miss a beat, pausing at the same time as you, then met your flustered expression with a smile.Â
âYes?â
âYouâre the one that wanted to do this,â you said, gesturing in front of you with a hand. âSo lead the way.â
âGladly,â he said. âIâm very good at taking the lead.â
Fiyero started walking and, though you had half a mind to take the opportunity and dart back to the library, you found yourself following him.Â
Coraâs words spun around your head as you and Fiyero walked together, about him turning the full force of his flirting on you in return for you being such a stickler for your midterm.Â
That was the embarrassing thing; you didnât even think this was half of it, and he already had you blushingâand for what? It was as if youâd never even talked to a boy before.Â
Youâd had plenty of experience back home. Village boys coming into your parentsâ store to flirt at you, leaving notes in your desk in class, offering to walk you home at nightâplenty of experience.Â
It didnât matter that you denied them all and never went anywhere because you had a one track mind even then, and that Fiyero had done what no one else had and gotten you take a break simply because he asked nicelyâ
You sucked in a sharp breath as Fiyeroâs arm suddenly pressed against your chest, stopping you in place. Your head snapped up to look at him, mouth already open with questions loaded, but he gestured with his head before you could ask any of them.Â
Youâd nearly barreled right down the stairs from being lost in your head, without care nor consideration for actually taking the steps.Â
âMind the gap, darling,â he said. âWouldnât want you damaging that brain of yours.â
ââŚThank you,â you said once youâd regained the ability to speak words again. âOne of us ought to have one.â
Fiyero laughed as he took his arm away. âCertainly.â He used it to gesture down the stairs. âLadies firstâunless youâre unsure of your ability to conquer them.â
âIâll be just fine, Fiyero.â You started the descent, Fiyero right behind you, and you let out another short sigh.Â
There had to be something wrong with you. That was the only explanation for why you were acting this way.
Maybe you really did need to start getting more sleep.Â

"when did agatha realize he's wanda's son?"
in that moment. in that very last moment. excellent face acting by kathryn hahn because you see the second the pieces click into place. what pieces are those?
he's powerful enough to break a spell cast by the scarlet witch. he knew exactly where to find her in westview, which he would know because billy was right there when wanda cast the spell. in this episode he is able to say the name nicholas scratch further confirming rio's statement "that boy isn't yours". and, in that last scene, he very much sounds like a naive hero, which was how agatha viewed wanda for the majority of wandavision. he says he doesn't want to be that kind of witch, he doesn't want to hurt people, he doesn't want to kill anyone to further his own agenda.
and in that last moment, her behavior shifts because he's no longer just this kid she has been looking out for. he's wanda's son.
#agatha harkness#billy maximoff#teen agatha all along#agatha all along#agatha all along spoilers#maybe im thinking too much#i think as the last 4 eps progress we'll see agatha start to view him as an entity seperate from his mother#i imagine the next ep is gonna begin with a flashback sequence or montage for at least the first 5 to 10 minutes to explain billy's actions

Nicky's Rio son too.
I feel there were so many lines that imply this and the finale is starting to make more sense - especially because the dandelion in the trial!
Jen explains that Green Craft⢠is about the cycle of all living things - growth and decay in constant flow. So it's not just about dying but being born too.
So it would track that Rio's love for Agatha was so strong that it actually created life - Nicky. However, there would be consequences to this because proper balance had to be maintained somehow. Rio probably even warned Agatha about it, but Agatha always believes she is above the rules so in her head she probably thought she had every right to Nicky (maybe even her "prize" that she alludes to in their final confrontation). This would really add to Rio's hurt - Nicky was her son too. She thought she was giving Agatha a gift of life, but instead Agatha sees her as this cruel "evil" that "gave her nothing". To her Rio is the one who just "took."
It feels like it is also implied by Rio at the start of the episode when she says "This walk with another woman's son on a road that doesn't...". She could be referring to Nicky being her son.
But I think Agatha finally accepts her truth during the final trial when she sees the dandelion seed in her cameo. She even says "Out of Death - life" as she grows it because she finally understands the literal implications of that phrase.
That Dandelion is representation of Nicky. And sure enough, as soon as the flower grows and blossoms, it quickly enters the final stage - when it turns into the seeds that can be scattered by the wind again and continue the cycle of life. Because guess what, "dandelions produce seeds asexually by apomixis, where the seeds are produced without pollination, resulting in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent plant".
When Nicky is born, we could probably assume it was indeed asexual reproduction - Agatha says she didn't use a spell or incantation, but instead he was made from scratch (obviously a clever nod to his name). On one hand it could be read like Agatha is astonished how something this magical could happen without actually using any witchcraft. However, this also feels like a suggestion that maybe she is just amazed at how he could possibly exist. Kathryn Hahn in her recent interview alluded to how the witches didn't need men, babies were just born. So it was Rio's "dandelion seed" that made it happen.
It is the second characteristic of dandelion species is what seals the deal for me - "the offspring being genetically identical to the parent plant". Nicky as the offspring of Death needs bodies to survive in this realm. During his birth Rio says she can offer only time, because she can maintain the balance, as long as Nicky gets his bodies.
That's why she hates Rio and calls her evil - not because of Rio herself, but because of what her "genetics" did to Nicky. Agatha would rather have people believe that she is this evil witch killer that traded her child for the Darkhold, than anyone to know the awful truth that it was Nicky who was the cause of the killings.
In the flashbacks, there are those remarks about how they haven't "eaten for days" and that whenever Nicky was poorly he said he was hungry. Agatha said she couldn't create the food for him (and protect him from what's coming). She could've cooked that goat they had with them if they were really that hungry (btw, I still believe that goat is Senor Scratchy), but that wasn't the "food" that Nicky meant.
And just like Billy, Rio couldn't just take Nicky. He had to "turn himself in". It was his choice not to kill any more witches. On the day Nicky dies, he says "My mother needs me home". I think he is talking about Rio here, since he usually calls Agatha "Mama". This is the moment the decides for himself and goes home to Death.
I feel like this opens the possibility that we will indeed see Nicholas Scratch in the future (and have a role similar to the one in the comics). That maybe even he might not have "died" because he is an offspring of death, so he just exists in some Underworld realm, where he no longer needs bodies to survive. Maybe Agatha might have hoped that by killing more and more witches, she will bring Nicky back to life/this realm?
And the Ballad really was a protection spell she made for him too?
This would also be a more plausible explanation why Agatha went to kiss Rio when Billy asked "Is this how Nicky died?". I feel this was more of an apology to Rio for hating her for Nicky's treatment, because she finally understood why she had to do it?

âFragile Microbiomesâ by bio-artist Anna Dumitriu
1. SYPHILIS DRESS- This dress is embroidered with images of the corkscrew-shaped bacterium which causes the sexually transmitted disease syphilis. These embroideries are impregnated with the sterilised DNA of the Nichols strain of the bacterium - Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum - which Dumitriu extracted with her collaborators.
2. MICROBE MOUTH- The tooth at the centre of this necklace was grown in the lab using an extremophile bacterium which is part of the species called Serratia (Serratia N14) that can produce hydroxyapatite, the same substance that tooth enamel is made from.
The handmade porcelain teeth that make up this necklace have been coated with glazes derived from various bacterial species that live in our mouths and cause tooth decay and gum disease, including Porphyromonas gingivalis, which can introduce an iron-containing light brown stain to the glaze.
3. TEETH MARKS: THE MOST PROFOUND MYSTERY- In his 1845 essay âOn Artificial Teethâ, W.H. Mortimer described false teeth as âthe most profound mysteryâ because they were never discussed. Instead, people would hide the stigma of bad teeth and foul breath using fans.
This altered antique fan is made from animal bone and has been mended with gold wire, both materials historically used to construct false teeth (which would also sometimes incorporate human teeth). The silk of the fan and ribbon has been grown and patterned with two species of oral pathogens: Prevotella intermedia and Porphyromonas gingivalis. These bacteria cause gum disease and bad breath, and the latter has also recently been linked to Alzheimerâs disease.
4. PLAGUE DRESS- This 1665-style 'Plague Dress' is made from raw silk, hand-dyed with walnut husks in reference to the famous herbalist of the era Nicholas Culpeper, who recommended walnuts as a treatment for plague. It has been appliquĂŠd with original 17th-century embroideries, impregnated with the DNA of Yersinia pestis bacteria (plague). The artist extracted this from killed bacteria in the laboratory of the National Collection of Type Cultures at the UK Health Security Agency.
The dress is stuffed and surrounded by lavender, which people carried during the Great Plague of London to cover the stench of infection and to prevent the disease, which was believed to be caused by 'bad air' or 'miasmas'. The silk of the dress references the Silk Road, a key vector for the spread of plague.
5. BACTERIAL BAPTISM- based on a vintage christening gown which has been altered by the artist to tell the story of research into how the microbiomes of babies develop, with a focus on the bacterium Clostridioides difficile, originally discovered by Hall and OâToole in 1935 and presented in their paper âIntestinal flora in new-born infantsâ. It was named Bacillus difficilis because it was difficult to grow, and in the 1970s it was recognised as causing conditions from mild antibiotic-associated diarrhoea to life-threatening intestinal inflammation. The embroidery silk is dyed using stains used in the study of the gut microbiome and the gown is decorated with hand-crocheted linen lace grown in lab with (sterilised) C. difficile biofilms. The piece also considers how new-borns become colonised by bacteria during birth in what has been described as âbacterial baptismâ.
6. ZENEXTON- Around 1570, Swiss physician and alchemist Theophrastus Paracelsus coined the term âZenextonâ, meaning an amulet worn around the neck to protect from the plague. Until then, amulets had a more general purpose of warding off (unspecified) disease, rather like the difference today between âbroad spectrumâ antibiotics and antibiotics informed by genomics approaches which target a specific organism.
Over the next century, several ideas were put forward as to what this amulet might contain: a paste made of powdered toads, sapphires that would turn black when they leeched the pestilence from the body, or menstrual blood. Bizarre improvements were later made: âof course, the toad should be finely powderedâ; âthe menstrual blood from a virginâ; âcollected on a full moonâ.
This very modern Zenexton has been 3D printed and offers the wearer something that genuinely protects: the recently developed vaccine against Yersinia pestis, the bacterium that causes plague.
#my favourite pieces from this exhibition that I visited last month at the Thackray medical museum in Leeds#absolutely fascinating reading about the process and meanings behind these works#mine#anna dumitriu#works
