Spoilers!
The Witches Road theory.
What if they don't die on the Road?
What if they are simply sent back to the reality?
The latest promo has a brief shot of Jen climbing out of a hole in the grass, out onto what looks like sunny Westview?
This doesn't resemble the darkness of the Road and all the trials seem to take place indoors...
Sidenote: why would Sharon's dead eyes be open if she was unconscious when they were putting her in the oven?
This would also explain how Rio joins the group - in epi 4 we see what looks like Rio climbing out of Sharon's grave and initially I thought she could have some shape-shifting abilities...
But what if Rio is NOT Sharon but she was just waiting for someone to die so she could climb through their hole into the Road? She's Earth Witch so would know where to look/how to crawl through it!
This would explain why Rio said she "heard they were having a party" - because only Sharon could've told her that when she climbed out. It would also explain her reaction to Alice who said at the start of the new trial " don't eat anything, don't drink anything". Rio replies that "it sounds like there is a story there", which implies that she doesn't actually know what happened in the first trial so she couldn't be disguised as Sharon back then.

Ok, so when Agatha says "hate", is it actually her codeword for "love"?
Cause these two definitely have something going on between them... (did you pick it up when Agatha told her that if she wants her jade egg back, she knows where to find it?)
And let's not forget the "I missed you" - "I hate you" exchange with Rio....

Lowkey I'm now starting to think Teen's role is antagonistic. When we first meet him, in Agatha's detective hallucination, he's got dark smudges on his fingers like the very beginning of Darkhold use, which we all know drives people to acts of violence.
Jen implies that he's Agatha's long lost son, and while I personally am on the "he's Billy" train, her saying nobody knows what became of Agatha's child and that he could be a demon or an "agent of Mephisto", was not for no reason.
Then Teen just up and vanishes during Alice's hallucination inside the house. Maybe time was distorted and he'd really only been gone a moment, but his sudden and random absence felt very deliberate to me. Where did he go? What was he up to (besides looking for eucalyptus)?
Lastly, when everybody slides out of the first trial, Teen gets washed out with Sharon's corpse right beneath him, with her eyes open. Sharon's eyes were closed when they put her on the table, and if the poisoned wine is what kills her, then there'd be no reason for her eyes to have popped back open again.
Unless feeding her the antidote did work, and somewhere between leaving the first trial and arriving back on the Road, Teen killed Sharon himself, for whatever reason.

two things: 1) I think The Road is a circle, or a spiral, that goes around the Tree of Life. and B) we always know which power will be tested next because the roots change colour. at the end of episode 02 they were blue and water was tested on episode 03. at the end of episode 03 they were orange, which can only mean fire will be tested on episode 04.

Why is Agatha lying?
Some spoilers!
.
.
Ok, so it's getting more and more obvious that Agatha hasn't actually walked the Witches Road before. She always gives vague answers about it, almost like she recites them from memory (someone else told her these things?) and is surprised by the events and mechanics of the first trial.
Also, in one of the promos Teen asks Agatha why she allows people to believe these horrible things about her and she replies that the truth is far worse.
That makes me think that the rumour about Agatha trading her own child for a copy of Darkhold is also not true.
My theory is that her son must've been in some sort of danger and the only way to save him was for Agatha to walk the Road. She probably acquired the Darkhold by then - maybe she made some sort of deal with Rio, but my favourite theory is that Rio simply gifted her the book because they were an item back then. And/or maybe Rio wanted to trick her.
Either way, by the time Agatha's coven gathered, something went wrong. She got greedy/angry with the witches and instead drained their power (we see that scene in another promo). Alone, she could not summon the road so she failed and her son died/was gone forever.
To her this truth would be worse to Agatha for many reasons:
1) it would mean she failed at something and wasn't powerful enough. But she likes people to think that she's "exceptional" (this is the reason she gives Teen when explaining how she supposedly survived the Road) and she seems to derive her own worth from having the power and being "formidable". So in her eyes failure is not acceptable and something to be deeply ashamed for. Maybe that's why she craves more and more power, hoping it would fix her/make her feel better.
2) it would mean Agatha's own greed/temper/arrogance costed the life of someone she loved. We know Darkhold corrupts the mind, so she might be blaming Rio for giving her the book that affected her behaviour. But deep down she knows that Darkhold or not, she probably would've reacted the same way and she's ashamed of it
3) it makes her psychologically vulnerable and it scares her. She took the effort to point out to Rio that she's only "physically" vulnerable, but that's not what we saw in her "Agnes O'Conner' persona. Agatha likely never allowed herself to process the grief and doesn't know how to, probably still hanging on to the hope that one day she'll bring him back.
So rather than exposing the shame of all of the above, she chose to lie and tell everyone she did walk the Road and that the child was gone because she traded him for the Darkhold. She probably was telling this lie for so long - hundreds of years - that a part of her actually believes it.
Saying all of that, I don't like that theory and that the writers seem to be making Agatha's story all about her child. Because... doesn't that sound too familiar? Not being able to process the grief? Yearning for power to bring back her child? It feels like we're seeing just a re-write of Wanda, quickly falling into a trope that "every successful lady cop [witch] cannot have a healthy personal life" and must be longing for the fulfillment of motherhood...
So I really really hope that the writers don't go in that direction and that they stop making Agatha's entire arch all about child loss because that would just be so lazy and offensive - she's so much more colourful and deserves so much better.
I hope that all of that is just a bit of baiting to make us believe Teen is her son, when in fact he's someone else (Billy?). I mean it's Agatha's series and not Teen's or Wanda's!!! So maybe at one point the Road will make Agatha choose and she will give up the locket with (her son's?) hair and with that also the hope that she will ever bring him back. So it would stop holding her back and we can see her in all of her glory.
....And also so that she could shift all of her attention to a certain Green Witch.... *Pretty please*

Agatha and mentorship, Rio, and the funk reveal
More spoiler cutting. I have decided that a "funko pop spoilers" tag is necessary since the spoilers are for more than just the latest episode.
Spoiler cut!
Since now we know Teen is Billy for sure (which is what I suspected and most everyone suspected), I think I am very excited to see Agatha be his mentor. Agatha was a fun mentor to Wanda in the comics and I love Agatha on the show but she's not the old lady witch of the comics. Age is just a number and all that, but having her being the bad guy was a bit of a bummer.
I don't mind her doing bad stuff, but I wanted her to teach Wanda more than just those ruins that are only there to have Wanda use against her later.
And in the first Young Avengers book, Billy has to figure out how to do magic and shit on his own. He initially thinks he's Asgardian, but now TV Billy won't have to do that! And Agatha could help him find his Mom like in Children's Crusade.
I do think the Billy reveal will be sad for Agatha, because part of her hopes he is Nicholas. Since she thinks she's the star (presentation!) it's going to be rough for her to find out it's all about Wanda again.
But I am also worried about Teen and Rio. I did not guess that she was literally Death until the Funko Pop reveal. Billy has cheated death on some level. He was supposed to die in WandaVision and all the talk of a car accident before the events of episode 1 makes me think that might have been some kind of inciting incident for Billy to go look for Agatha. Like a near death experience. (Also something happened when he was 13. Allie Ahn mentioned a bat mitzvah moment during the press tour and I got excited that Billy might actually be Jewish. But I hope I didn't mishear.)
Joe Locke did mention on the press tour that he had to shave a scar into his eyebrow, so that is there intentionally for some reason. Something cut him recently.
Anyway, I think Agatha will have to chose between Rio and Teen in some way. I know the shippers are shipping but I want to protect Billy at all costs.
ETA: Also, "do you remember why you hate me?" BECAUSE YOU ARE DEATH AND YOU TOOK MY BOY (possibly literally?).
ETA2: But I bet Rio relates to Agatha being hated by her mom and such. Agatha was just doing what she does. Death is just doing its job when people die. They are not necessarily evil.
Like Agatha even says to Jen that she left Jen alone because she respected Jen on some level. She took power from people she didn't "deserve it" per WandaVision. Others see her as a "witch killer" but I think she thinks they are better off without them.
Some bitches should die. (I bet Rio agrees.)

Let's talk Familiars!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By now we know that the lyrics of the ballad are all meaningful. So what about this line "familiar by thy side"?
Familiars are supposed to be spirits or demons that take forms of small animals or imps, as a gift from the devil or inherited from another witch. So far we've not seen any typical familiars on the Road.
Yes, Agatha refers to Teen as her pet and so maybe could be seen as a familiar and that's all there is. The other witches certainly treat him as a pet and not part of the coven. BUT it's MCU - do we really believe this? Especially given the theory that Teen is Billy (which I want to be true!)?
OR maybe it's a play on words - Teen might SEEM really familiar to Agatha, though she doesn't know where from?
If anything, I think Senor Scratchy could be Billy's familiar - Agatha gave it to Wanda and Billy is seen petting the rabbit as a kid, then holding him during the Salem Seven attack. But after that, the pet is nowhere to be seen!
Why do the rest of the witches not seem to have any familiars?
AND... What if Rio is supposed to be the familiar? Maybe she's Ebony, Agatha's black cat? (Whom she killed in the comics but then was somehow brought back to life - explains black heart and connection to death... And the licking? *wink* *wink*)

What if Teen is the baddie of the show? I don't believe for a second that he's Agatha's son! I think he's Billie, but he wants her to believe he is her son, so he can manipulate/blindside her. But what is he really after? (Wanda would be too obvious/innocent?)
He's suspiciously proficient at magic and its knowledge - I mean, he broke the spell on Agatha, that was cast by the most powerful witch in the universe! Yet he claims he doesn't have the power and he pretends he doesn't know the basic things - like what the sigil is or witches' name for honey.
He clearly needed the access to the Witches Road and manipulated Agatha into it. Why was she humming the ballade at the start of the series when she was still under the spell and not even considering the road? When she heard of Salem Seven, she just wanted to run - but it was Teen who suggested the Road and convinced her. I would go as far as say that he's probably the one who sent Salem Seven her way, just to motivate her and hurry up! He read enough about her so he knew her past and the first coven.
In the first trial he suddenly became very serious and authoritative, literally commanding Agatha to to do his will and drink. I didn't like the way he questioned Alice about her tattoo - is he wondering how to remove it to expose her?...
And finally... is he working with Rio? They both appeared in Agatha's curse and at the same time too. I feel like Rio's pizza visit to the detective's house was just a decoy for Teen to break in. Then Rio stepped in when Agatha got too violent with Teen during the interrogation... What if they were the "two perps" who were in that imaginary car crash in episode 1?
I don't want them to be the baddies... but to quote a certain witch... I can't shake this feeling we're seeing it wrong...

Spoilers ahead!
.
.
The more material is being released, the more I fear that Rio Vidal (river of life?) is actually Lady Death. The Death tarot card with a dagger, the skeleton figure in the latest trailer, the spelling in ouija board... The ballad lyrics "I hold Death's hand in mine". Not to mention how Rio appears on the Road - crawling out of (what I think is) Mrs Davies grave!
Then the whole dialogue in episode 1 makes sense! Agatha can't kill Rio because it's not possible to kill death. And Rio can't kill Agatha because "it's not allowed" for death to kill someone before their time is due. And if Agatha would take death's powers on, then yeah, it would makes that she would die.
(So Rio preferring Agatha horizontal in a grave suddenly takes a whole new meaning! )
But that makes me worried because it would make it so complicated and messy and less chance for an actual romance between a witch and death herself? So after all that, Disney is actually queerbaiting us after all?!
what if Agatha made a deal with Death to sacrifice her child (hinted by Jen) to get a copy of Darkhold (hence the book appearing in a cradle) but then try to trick her to keep both, but it didn't work out - maybe Agatha hid him somewhere and made herself forget - e.g. by magically putting the memory into the child's hair strand that she keeps in the locket? So that she actually thinks the child is dead, but Lady Death didn't get him, so she feels cheated out of the deal and so she's just doing "her job" by trying to find the child and is not really interested in Agatha, while Agatha hates her because she thinks her son is dead?
(I don't think Teen is her child, that would be too easy. I think Teen is Billy and he just wants to bring his momma back. Maybe Agatha gets her full memories back at the end of the series and we get season 2 because she now has to set off to find her son?)
