can you see the stars in your dreams (and do they have a lot to say about me) - Part 17
Or: a secret Admirer AU
PART 1 || PART 2 || PART 3 || PART 4 || PART 5 || PART 6 || PART 7 || PART 8 || PART 9 || PART 10 || PART 11 || PART 1 || PART 13 || PART 14 || PART 15 || PART 16
Eddieâs back to school on Tuesday, black eye turning a mottled sort of green, lip scabbed over. From where heâs hemmed in by Robin and Chrissy, Steve watches Eddie catch a glimpse of him and bolt the other way.
Jeff sighs, lets go of his hold on Chrissyâs arm, and says, âsorry, Steve. Iâm just gonnaââ and then he points toward Eddie and follows after him without another word.
Steveâs gut clenches with guilt. Heâd put that look on Eddieâs face, had caused the rift in his and Jeffâs friendship, had split the forming group up with his ridiculous crush. But Chrissy and Robin are still here, standing by his side.
âAre he and Jeff okay?â Steve asks, biting his lip as he glances at Chrissy.
âI think so,â she says, looking after her boyfriend. âThey talked on the phone, but Jeff didnât tell me what about.â
âForget about them,â Robin replies, reaching out to take his hand even as it makes everyone around them stare. âCome on, Stevie, or weâll be late to Ms. Clickity Clackâs class.â
Steve passes the rest of the day in a daze, the spot at his side a revolving cast of Chrissy, Robin, and Jeff, like theyâd all talked behind his back and decided he couldnât be trusted with being alone right now. Steve canât blame them because as soon as heâs left unattended in his big empty house, he gets out his notebook and pen, and begins to write.
  Eddie â
Iâm sorry I never got to read your last letter, but it wasnât for me anyways. Maybe none of them were, not really. And Iâm sorry about that, even sorrier about how your pretty face got caught in the ceasefire. Iâm just full of sorries Iâm to scared to tell to your faceâfrom the way you ran when you saw me in the hallway this morning, maybe you wouldnât want me to anyway.
Youâve always been the brave one, so you must really want to not see me, huh? I hope you and Jeff are friends again. Iâm sorry about that too, Iâm the one who asked him not to tell you. I was afraid, but thatâs no excuse.
I donât know how to stop wanting to right write to you. I canât turn off the part of me that still wants to know everything about you. Thereâs a whole in my heart, and I keep trying to find people to fill it, but I can never be in love with someone who loves me back. You know?
Iâm sorry, Eddie. Maybe someday, Iâll get to say it to your face.
  Sorry,
  Steve
He closes the notebook on the damning words and shoves it into his nightstand so he doesnât have to look at it. Sleep doesnât comeâthe house is too quiet. He grabs the phone off his dresser and calls the only other person he knows whose parents trust them enough to have a phone in their bedroom.
âHâlo?â Robin mutters sleepily after finally picking up the phone six rings later.
She sounds tiredâSteveâs sorry he woke her. âI wrote another letter,â he says.
That seems to perk her up instantly, as she hisses down the line, âSteven James Harrington.â
âNot my name, Robin Steven Bobbington,â he replies, talking right over her shrieked âwell, thatâs not mine!â to continue, âIâm not going to send it.â
âYou better not,â she replies, and Steve can hear some rustling on her end, like sheâs settling back down into her bed. He wishes, suddenly, that he was in there with her, clutching her hand as they fall asleep side by side. Instead, he lays down on his own bed and concentrates on the noises coming down the line.
âIs it stupid that I miss him?â he asks.
âYeah, kinda.â
âRobin!â
She laughs, a quiet sleepy chuckle that warms him straight through. âIâm just saying! Heâs been treating you like shit, Stevie.â
Steve sighs, burrowing down under his comforter and taking the phone with him. âHe was different in the letters,â he whispers, like someone in his empty house might hear him otherwise. âSweeter, you know?â
Robin sighs, âIâm sorry.â
âYeah, me too.â
Thereâs enough sorries to go around for all of them, apparently. Theyâre quiet for a while, Robinâs breathing keeping him company in his big, lonely bed with his big, lonely thoughts.
âI love you, Robbie,â he whispers. âYou know that, right?â
Heâs been saying it a lot lately, throwing the words around like theyâll connect this time and get him something real. And they had, with Chrissy, with Robin, hell, even with Jeff. Just, not with Eddie. Maybe someday, heâll learn to be okay with that.
âLove you, too, Dingus,â Robin replies, like itâs easy.
He falls asleep that night to the sound of Robinâs quiet snoring.
***
Eddie thinks about itâobsessively, compulsively. He dreams about it, jerks off about it, fucking cries about it. He reads the letters, again, and again, and again, wishing desperately that he still had that first one. At school, he checks his locker obsessively, compulsively, hoping thereâs another note in his lockerâthere never is.
âDude, whatâs your problem?â Gareth asks, an elbow into Eddieâs side.
âOw, ribs!â Eddie cries, curling away from him and into Doug at their usual lunch table.
âSorry!â Gareth replies, leaning away from him and raising his hands up like thatâll somehow prove heâs harmless.
Jeff snorts around his sandwich, âgotta be careful, Gare-bear. Heâs precious cargo now.â
âOh fuck off,â Eddie replies, rolling his eyes as the rest of Hellfire laugh around him.
âNo, but seriously, dude,â Gareth asks, this time without the thrown elbow. âWhatâs up with you?â
Eddie looks across the cafeteria at Steve and Chrissyâs usual spots, still empty the way they have been for weeks. He worries, sometimes, that theyâre not eating, and itâs his fault.
Hopefully, theyâre just packing lunches from home and eating somewhere else (heâs been too afraid to check).
âCanât tell you buddy,â Eddie replies, still looking at the empty spot like thatâll somehow make the duo appear. âI promised.â
Gareth, clearly having followed his line of sight, leans closer and asks in an unsubtle whisper, âbut itâs about you know what?â
Doug sits on, oblivious, but Jeff snorts again and asks, âokay, you didnât tell me jack shit, but you told the freshman?â
âSophomore, jackass!â Gareth cries, before seeming to realize the implications of Jeffâs sentence. âYou told Jeff?â
âI knew before you did,â Jeff says smugly, and Eddieâs starting to get pissed off about that again.
âHow!â
âJeff, dearest?â Eddie grits out. âDo you want me to punch you in the face?â
That shuts the table up catastrophically. But in the end, Jeff sighs and says, âIâm coming over after school,â and the rest of lunch is spent fielding Garethâs indignant questions.
True to his word, Jeff climbs into Eddieâs passenger seat at the end of the day. Eddie doesnât take them to the trailer, he just drives around, taking back roads round and round, restlessness making his fingers twitch in the gear shift.
Jeffâs the one who breaks the silence, in the end. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you,â he says, making Eddie flinch at the sudden noise. âSteve just seemed so scared, and Chrissy was crying soââ
âHe was scared?â Eddie interrupts, stuck on the thought. Heâd known that, before, but now that Eddieâs afraid, too, it hits like a punch to the chest.
âOf course he was,â Eddie replies to his own question. Suddenly unable to focus, Eddie pulls over to the side of the road. âIâm scared, too.â
Jeff sucks in a breath; Eddie doesnât look away from his own knees.
âYeah?â
Eddie bites his lip, knowing that Jeff will be able to read between the lines. âYeah.â His eyes are watering, and Eddie swipes at them, embarrassed. âAnd I know weâre supposed to be talking about us, but I justââ
âNo, hey,â Jeff replies. Eddie hears the sound of his seatbelt unbuckling, and the rustle of him shifting in his seat, and suddenly, Jeffâs hand is clasping Eddieâs shoulder, shaking him around just a little. âYouâre my best friendâweâre fine, dude.â
Eddie swipes at his eyes again, âI think I want to ask him out, but what if Iâm wrong?â Eddie asks, tracking Jeffâs expression out of the corner of his eye. âI donât want to hurt him again.â
âSo, what?â Jeff asks, voice deadpan. âYou find out he likes you and suddenly heâs not just a jock anymore?â
Eddie looks down at his own knees, bracing for a hit he knows will never come. But, Eddieâs always been good at hurting himself, so he thinks about that yellow nail polish again, the enraptured look in Steveâs eyes during every D&D session, the way heâd glued himself to Robin Buckley, band nerd supremeâs side in recent weeks. The way heâd look at Eddie like he wasnât the king of the freaks, like he was worth something.
âHe was never just a jock,â Eddie murmurs. âI just never let myself think about it.â
Jeff mmmhmms him and Eddie knows him well enough to hear the doubt beneath the agreement.
âI was afraid, okay?â Eddie laments, scrunching his eyes closed tight until that makes his bruised eye ache too much. âYou wouldnât get it.â
At that, Jeff scoffs, and before Eddie can start up another tirade, he replies, âright, the black guy dating a white girl in Po-dunk, Indiana has no idea how scary it can be to make a move on the person you like.â
Okay, fair.
âYou know what could happen if the wrong person finds out?â Jeff continues. âIâll be lucky if they let me get out of town alive.â
âOkay, okay! I get it, sorry!â Eddie cries, throwing his hands up in defeat. And Jeff, being the asshole he is, just laughs at his discomfort. âHowâs that going anyway?â
âWith Chrissy?â Jeff asks, continuing when Eddie nods. âSheâs great, man. I really, really like her.â
Heâs smiling all goofy and in love. Eddie waits for the jealousy to hit; it never comes. Even as heâd flirted with her, thereâd always been a disconnect for him between the letters and the girl. He knows why, now.
âIâm happy for you.â
Jeff aims that same goofy smile at him and punches his shoulder. âThanks, man.â
Eddie wants to feel that way about someone. He wants to think of them and smile like he just canât help himself. And with Steve Harrington of all people, maybe he can.
âIf I ask Steve out, do you think heâll still say yes?â
âOh, for sure,â Jeff replies without hesitation before he turns to Eddie and eyes him up and down. âBut are you sure you want to?â
Eddie bites back the defensive retort rising on his tongue, and grits out, âwhat do you mean?â
Jeff sighs and leans back in his chair. Eddie waits, three seconds from snapping as he stews in Jeffâs silence, hands clenched so hard against the steering wheel that it feels like one of his nails might pop clean off.Â
âJeffââ
âNo oneâs ever liked you before!â Jeff cries, and it hits Eddie like a punch to the sternum. âAnd maybe itâs not fair of me to ask but, are you sure you even really like him?â
âWhat?â Eddie asks, his mind a record skipping against a bent needle. âWhat do youââ
âEddie, man,â Jeff sighs, swiveling his head to finally look Eddie directly in the eyes. âDo you like Steve Harrington, or do you just like that he likes you?â
He drops the wheel, hands almost numb as he shakes them out, no longer able to meet Jeffâs eye.Â
How would anyone ever know that for sure? How can he know the origin of a feeling when itâs been there, simmering in the background of his brain, just waiting for him to wake up? How can he separate the feeling for a person and the personâs feeling for them?
Thatâs like asking him to unbraid his hair, let it fall back together, and still be able to tell which strands made up each component of the braidâit canât be done.
But, âGareth said I was obsessed with him,â Eddie replies, barely above a whisper. âLike, before I knew he wrote the letters?â
âYeah?â
âYeah.â Eddie laughs, but itâs just like Steve saidâit sounds different when he doesnât think itâs funny. âAnd, he was right, you know? I was flirting with Chrissy, but I couldnât stop thinking about him.â
Eddie runs a shaking hand through his hair and buries his face into his hands with a shudder. âHeâs justâheâs Steve Harrington, right? Everyone knows everything about him, but then he just changes the script!â Eddieâs smiling now, manic, animated. âAnd I wanted to know everything.â
Eddie drops his hands to look over at Jeff, meeting his eyes once more. Jeff looks patient, ready, hopeful in a way he hadnât before, so Eddie keeps talking.
âLike, Chrissy was flirting with you and he didnât even seem to care, and the yellow nail polish, and he came to Hellfire, Jeff. Steve Harrington came and watched us play Dungeons and Dragons.â
âI know,â Jeff replies, grinning now, pearly whites all on full display.Â
âAnd when he came to band practice, he was just like, watching me, and I sort of wanted to die, but in a good way, you know?â
Jeff decidedly does not look like he knows, but heâs still grinning across at Eddie like heâs proud of him. Eddieâs kind of proud, too, that heâs managing to say all of this aloud. It feels somehow new and a long time coming at the same time.Â
âOkay, you can ask him out,â Jeff says, turning forward in his seat and buckling his seatbelt once more.Â
Eddie laughs. âOh, because I needed your blessing?â
âYeah,â Jeff replies, grinning as he turns back to Eddie, looking him up and down like heâs a slab of meat Jeffâs checking for its quality. âMaybe wait until youâre healed up, though. You look like one of those cardboard box kittens that I keep seeing on the news.â
âShut up!â Eddie squawks, but heâs smiling, helplessly, hopefully.
Eddie Munson with a chance at love, who wouldâve thought?

I've heard people say this before; that they discuss my stories on Discord servers and I'm like, "well, that would be nice to see". But I'm either not on that specific server because it is not relevant to my interests, or because I just don't really pay attention to Discord in general because I'm old and it confuses the hell out of me, hence I wouldn't know where to find the stuff either way. But I just don't understand why they wouldn't say these things in the place where they're reading the things. Like, a writer shouldn't have to go hunting for the comments that are made about their stories in some random place elsewhere in the ether.
I actually enjoy a relative plenty of comments, between two and five per chapter in my longest series, which is great engagement compared to some people's, because people are kind enough to say something to keep me rolling... but that's five out of generally the same 10 people commenting almost every single time, which means I'm kind of depending on them to keep me from feeling like I'm just shouting into the void (a lot of pressure on them). Meanwhile, I'm getting enough hits that if everybody who read each chapter commented I would probably have 30+ comments per chapter. Sometimes up to 100. That's rotten stats. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Someone literally told me after reading the whole series up to now as a total specter that they couldn't bring themselves to comment until the 12th part of the series because they were scared to, for whatever reason. If people have been scaring y'all from commenting, I want to know who did that because that's ridiculous and does a disservice to everybody out here literally begging for engagement. Because the OPs are right; this is our currency in this world.
Fanfiction is motivated by community, by discussion, connection, by shared experience. We don't want to be throwing precious things into the vacuum and praying someone even notices... because we have no idea if anybody notices unless they tell us. Some of the best comments I've ever seen on any of my writing have been in the bookmarks. I just wish people would tell me what they do and don't like so that I can know that I'm not alone out there. Because other series get one or two comments per every four or five chapters, if that; and that's very hard to sustain out there on your own.
Please feed your authors if you actually want their productivity. And commenting "when is the next chapter going to be up?!" doesn't count.
A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.
My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.
My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.
This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.
Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.
I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.
So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.
#real talk#fanfiction#writing#comments are lifeblood#none of this applies to the heroic readers who comment in both places#because you in fact are kings and queens of this universe#All commenters are practically my reason to get up in the morning#and definitely they keep me writing#when sheer love of the story I'm telling is not sufficing that day

Thinking about Buck feeling like.... Okay well I guess love doesn't really exist, not in the way I feel it. It's not everything to anyone else. Relationships are just when you like somebody enough to not mind them as a roommate. I'm never going to be the most important person to anyone. It's fine. Christopher should be Eddie's most important person. Jee and the new baby and Chimney should be Maddie's most important people. It's fine. I'm alone again and will always be alone even if I do find somebody because no one feels like this. Everyone is so important to me, all the time, forever, but they don't need me like that. It's fine. I'll find somebody I can live with. But that didn't work either, the last time, or the time before that, or the time before that. But it's fine. It'll work out. I'll find someone and we'll be roommates and we will smile at each other and not care all that much. And maybe I can keep sleeping on Eddie's couch sometimes. I'd drive all the way to Texas to sleep on his couch sometimes. Oh I've done it wrong again. No one feels like this.

I'm feeling bitchily critical today so. Let's get critical.
Reasons why Season 8 of 911 (so far) sucks:
Bobby and Athena are aimless
They have no house. The logical development is for them to look for one, one for their future. That is theirs. Where are the house hunting woes? The disageeements and compromises? Are they ever going to have a chance to find a place they both love? Or build one, even?
Athena's job description is all over the place
She's giving school talks. She's conducting traffic stops. She's escorting a prisoner across state lines. She is mentoring new officers. She's a goddamn Sergeant but what is her job scope? Every single thing requiring the presence of police, apparently!
Hen and Karen have little direction for growth
The Mara adoption issue could have brought out more of their relationship, developed them in terms of relying on each other through a difficult time. The storyline with Ortiz could have really delved into the struggles of the foster care system, and how Hen and Karen broke rules designed to protect the kids. (Seriously, if a child is removed from a foster family, it's logical not allowing the foster parents to meet the child that was removed for the safety of the child). Where was the appeal to Ortiz as a mother? Where was the struggle? Where is the tension between the Wilsons and the Hans? Instead there was a Deux Ex Gerrard. And I am not even gonna start on the whole "why didn't you take leave for Halloween" shit, that stuff should have been settled when Denny was a baby. What are their next steps? Same old same old?
Gerrard is a joke
An established bigot and racist returns. He could have been a great way to show how the 118 has grown beyond him and his bullying. Instead they're cowed by him, and lets him yell at Buck? Whatever happened to the "who cares" courage in Season 7? And he gets the reward of his dream job?
Eddie is still not healed
He emotionally cheated on his girlfriend with his dead wife's doppelganger. Has he even processed what that actually means? No! His son moved to Texas. Has he coped with the loneliness in his house? Who knows? Certainly not the audience, since we don't see him go to therapy or, hell, have a full breakdown! He confides in people who aren't his friends, let alone his so-called best friend! Bobby gave him a prayer book but we don't even hear Eddie rage at a God who keeps putting devastation and challenges in his way. What wa the point of the prayer book then? He just danced in his underwear and somehow that made him smile and now he's moving across the country and, what, giving up on his home and his job? Is that really healing, Edmundo DĂaz? Or are you just running from the problem again?
Chimney has no internal or external motivation
He was providing for Mara for a few months. Was he stressed about it? Did he think about seeking a promotion for a higher salary? Also, he is an immigrant. Does that influence how he teaches Jee? Has he and Maddie, white suburban raised Maddie, ever discussed the potential problems Jee might face? Or whether they wanna include some Korean culture in Jee's education, since they gave her a Korean name? Does he ever think about any of these issues? Is he at all conflicted? What does Chimney want?
Maddie
She was the one who wanted to meet Tommy. Has she done so outside of the wedding? What was her opinion of him? Is Maddie content to stay in Dispatch in the exact same position? Has she any career ambition? And about Jee: does she never think about the Korean part of Jee? Connecting to her own culture? Learning Korean, maybe? That would have been interesting because perhaps she wants her daughter to connect to that part of her roots but Chimney doesn't, for his own reasons. Also, if she wants to have a second kid, why didn't she discuss it with Chimney outright before the pregnancy? Was she not taking the pill? Were they careless again? What would she do if Chimney didn't want a second child? Abort? Given how the first pregnancy was traumatic for the whole family, including her brother, this development is showing her to be pretty self-centered, frankly. I don't know this Maddie. She's not the same one that gave Buck her Jeep to escape, knowing that she'll be hurt by an abusive husband.
Brad
Why is airtime devoted to a character that is barely connected to the 118? What is the reason behind giving him so much focus? Is he supposed to quit acting and become a firefighter or something? What is the rationale for his existence?
.
.
And I haven't even touched on Buck or Tommy.
#911 critical#feeling bitchy#anyway.#it irks me when a story's potential isn't met#and there is so much potential lost

âFIDELITYâ |part8
MASTERLIST -`âŽÂ´- Rafe Cameron x Kook!Reader x JJ Maybank
Summary: Kook!Readerâs world is upended by betrayal, and her only way forward might lie with the most unlikely personâJJ Maybank. But as they build a new life together, old flames and past mistakes refuse to stay buried.
Warnings: slut shaming(?)
previous - next
Could you really call yourself an adult now?
I mean, honestly, is there some magical age that makes you a certified grown-up?
If itâs all about age, then nopeâyou werenât an adult. Maybe a âyoung adultâ at best, but even then, the life you were living? Letâs just say it was⌠a bit different.
When everything started happening so quickly, keeping up felt impossible. And letâs face it, that was normal. If you managed to juggle everything with calm composure, youâd probably qualify as Wonder Woman. Life came with its ups and downs, but throw pregnancy symptoms into the mix, and things got extra tricky.
You liked to share what you wanted with others. Talking about your plans openly was just how you were. It wasnât about bragging; you just enjoyed sharing your happiness. But every single timeâwithout failâwhatever you talked about? It never happened.
That Venice trip youâd been set on for the summer? Canceled.
The dream university? Rejected. That car you were this close to buying? Nope, didnât happen.
It was like clockwork. Every time.
And the thing was, you never learned. Not really. Youâd repeat the same mistake again and again. Lifeâs law, right? Someday youâd figure it out⌠though that day clearly wasnât anytime soon.
Pregnancy, though, wasnât exactly something you could go shouting about to everyone. That was off the table. But moving?
If you werenât pregnant, thereâs no way youâd have kept quiet. Youâd have made sure the entire island knew. And naturally, that wouldâve meant it wouldnât happen.
This time, though, you zipped it. The only person who knew was JJâand, well, he didnât really count. Or, okay, maybe he did. Of course, he was important, but not the kind of person to stand in your way. On the contrary, he had your back. He even offered to help you with the whole moving process.
Things happened so fast, you could hardly believe it.
Your dad came home from his work trip, you visited the mainland, met with a realtor friend of his, checked out potential homesâit was like someone had hit the fast-forward button.
You couldnât decide on anything. You were even okay with a cute little apartment. The list of occupants was simple: you and your daughter. You didnât need much more.
Your mom, however, had her opinions. She didnât want a mansion either, but she was firm about the house having enough rooms. One for you, one for your daughter, and a guest roomâbecause naturally, grandma duties. And a yard, because she wanted to watch her grandchild play outside.
So apartments were out. Houses it was. After seeing what felt like a million empty ones, you were ready to scream.
But finally, you found it. The perfect house. The yard alone sold it. You could already picture the memories youâd make there with your daughter. Maybe a swing or a hammock⌠some comfy furniture on the porch.
You never imagined youâd get so close to your dream so quickly.
It had the three rooms your mom insisted on, was two stories, and honestly, it was beautiful. You loved it. But the idea of living there alone was terrifying.
Still, the deal was sealed.
It didnât take longâtwo weeks, tops. When your mom insisted on hiring an interior designer, you didnât argue much. Secretly, you liked the idea. And once your belongings were packed, it was all done.
All that was left was you.
There werenât many people to say goodbye to on the island, which was, honestly, fine. Who were you supposed to bid farewell to? Rafe? His family, who didnât even know you were pregnant? Your friends, whoâd probably broadcast the news to the world? No thanks.
Except for JJ.
Youâd have been a total ass not to acknowledge his help. Even if his support wasnât entirely physical, his presence had been a huge emotional lift.
So saying goodbye wasnât hard.
Ignoring the support heâd given you wouldâve been dumb. When you decided to give him a nice surfboard as a thank-you gift, you didnât overthink it. You just thought about who JJ wasâsomeone who loved the ocean and surfing. Beyond that? You didnât know much. So you kept it simple. Spoiler alert: he liked it.
You hesitated, thinking a gift might make things unnecessarily sentimental, but he deserved it. Nobody else in his position wouldâve treated you as kindly. Even Kooks barely treated each other well. Expecting a Pogue to go out of their way for you? Yeah, no.
But JJ had.
You werenât super close, but during one of your conversations, heâd mentioned how much he liked the rare nights when his shift ended early. He worked at a pub. In your head, youâd given him two weeks before he got firedâor kicked out after starting a fight. You were that sure of it.
A week ago, knowing the end of his evening shift, you parked near the pub, sitting on your car hood to wait for him. The plan? Give him the surfboard. Maybe even give him a ride home if he needed one.
Fifteen minutes passed. He hadnât come out.
You started questioning everythingâmaybe youâd gotten the wrong day? Or maybe youâd messed up the time?
Waiting around for nothing felt miserable. You shouldâve paid better attention when heâd been talking about his schedule.
Not that the gift had been planned or anything. The idea had hit you on a whim. You just wanted to do something before you left. After all, there werenât many people to say goodbye to. And texting JJ a quick see ya felt way too impersonal.
âWhat are you doing here?â
You snapped out of your thoughts, your eyes shooting up from your phone. JJ stood a few steps away, mid-turn before he stopped and faced you fully. His eyes scanned the car before landing on you.
Quickly, you shoved your phone into your pocket. âMaking sure you didnât pick another fight.â Sliding off the hood, you smirked.
JJ rolled his eyes, flashing you a sarcastic smile. âHa-ha. How funny.â
Unlike him, your grin was genuine. Why should he have all the fun pissing people off? It was your turn.
Unlike him, your lips curled into a genuine smile. Was it always going to be him getting under your skin for his own amusement? No, this time, it was your turn.
You heard him say your name, his tone serious. âNo, really. What are you doing here?â
Keeping surprises wasnât exactly your specialty, but you couldnât resist messing with him a little. After all, this was the first time in days youâd left the houseâand only in your baggiest clothes. Might as well enjoy it.
âJust hanging out.â
He frowned, his eyes scanning the area before gesturing around. âHere? Outside the pub?â
The confusion on his face was nearly comicalâborderline annoyed, maybe?
You mirrored his glance at the surroundings, raising your eyebrows. It wasnât much to look at. Just⌠a place. âWhatâs wrong with here?â
JJ let out a frustrated sigh, and for a moment, you couldnât believe youâd actually managed to annoy him. He genuinely looked upset. âAre you serious right now? Youââ He stopped himself, clenching his jaw as he stepped closer. Lowering his voice, he added, âYou canât drink. Youâre not even supposed to be hanging around.â
So, he thought youâd come here to drink? Thatâs why he was so worked up?
It was kind of⌠cute. But poking the bear was way more fun.
You let out a dramatic hum as you crossed your arms. âNot allowed? Says who?â You tried not to laugh at the look he shot you, a mix of exasperation and disbelief, like youâd lost your mind.
âMe. Youâre not drinking. Not here, not anywhere. Have you lost it?â
Your lips pulled into a grin, and despite his attempt to scold you, his irritation only made it funnier. Especially since you hadnât even done what he was accusing you of.
The second JJ caught onto what you were doing, his annoyed expression melted away. As your laughter echoed, he pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly unimpressed. âYeah, yeah. Hilarious. Now, can you just tell me what youâre actually doing here?â
You clutched your stomach, your laughter dying down into a lingering smile. Sure, he wasnât amused, but you were, and thatâs all that mattered.
âIâve got something for you.â
JJâs eyebrows shot up. He straightened, intrigued. âYeah?â
You stepped away from the carâs front, glancing back to see him still rooted in place. You gave him a quick head nod to follow. With a sigh, he finally moved. âIf this is a gun for self-defense, just so you know, Iâm not really clear on the rules here,â he joked with a wink.
You snorted, shaking your head. âPlease. If I gave you a gun, youâd be arrested in, like, two seconds.â
He laughed, but you could tell he was curious now. Opening the back door, you reached inside. âItâs a thank-you gift. Kind of.âThe surprise on his face was priceless. He clearly wasnât expecting this. Honestly, neither were you until the idea struck.
JJ tilted his head, his expression skeptical. âThank you? For what? For telling you not to pick fights?â
You rolled your eyes. He couldnât be serious. âNo, JJ. For helping me out.â
He smiled, but it was that classic, goofy grin of his. Any trace of his earlier irritation had completely vanished. He didnât even glance into the car. âOh, I get it. Like a âwithout JJ, my life wouldâve fallen apartâ kind of thank you? Go on, feed my ego. I live for this.â
For a split second, you considered slamming the door and driving off. Instead, you laughed. Sure, there was some truth to what he said, but no way were you letting him win.
Taking a deep breath, you opened the door wider and stepped back. âNope. Itâs just a small gesture. Donât read too much into it.â
JJ walked over and held the door open, his eyes going wide when he spotted the surfboard wedged into the backseat. His fingers ran over the smooth edges and the blue-and-white design. âYou got this for me?â he asked, his voice softer now as he inspected it.
You couldnât suppress your grin. âYeah. I mean, I know itâs kind of random, but I figured you could use your own board for a change. For everything youâve doneââ You hesitated, trying to find the right words. âIt meant a lot.â
JJâs smile was different this time. It wasnât cocky or teasing. It was genuine. âIf I donât take this, I feel like youâd be really annoying about it,â he muttered, pulling the board from the car.
âAbsolutely. You wouldnât want to hear me talk about how I poured my heart into its design,â you teased.
He froze, eyes narrowing. âWaitâyou designed it?â
You smirked, holding his gaze. âNo. But itâs nice that you believed it for a second.â
JJ laughed, shaking his head as he leaned the board against the car. For once, he wasnât mocking or making jokes. Instead, he looked at you with something softer, something you couldnât quite place. âThis is⌠perfect. You didnât have to do this.â
âI know. I just wanted to.â
He hesitated, glancing at the board before meeting your eyes again. âI was just trying to help. I didnât think it was that big of a deal.â
And that was it, wasnât it? Thatâs how it felt. Deep down, youâd even envied the way he was with his friends. He didnât know you. In fact, he hated your group. But if he treated you like thisâwho knew how he treated his friends?
You werenât used to people doing things for you without expecting something in return. Sure, you had a hunch JJ liked money. Not just youâeveryone on the island knew that. But still, the way he talked to you, made time for you⌠it mattered. It broke the prejudice you had against him.
It wasnât anything grand. He didnât buy you houses or cars. He didnât shower you with jewelry. But he talked to you like no one else did. He made you feelâlike you were someone. Like someone whose decisions shouldnât be dictated by anyone elseâs words.
And that? That was worth more than jewelry. More than anything money could buy. It was something most peopleâRafe includedâdidnât have.
From the moment he heard, he didnât tell anyone. What friend would do that? Ruthie? Sophie? Who?
JJ did.
And he wasnât even your friend.
Thatâs why it mattered. He was just being himself, and you needed that.
âIt felt like that.â JJ was holding the surfboard, his eyes catching yours. A strange silence fell between you. Neither of you had expected such a gestureânot just surfing, but the support heâd given you.
You hadnât expected his support; that was his gesture to you. And he hadnât expected a surfboard from you; that was your gesture to him.
JJ lifted the board to examine it, the usual smirk still on his face. He was clearly trying to ease the tension hanging between you. âSo, I have my own board now, huh? I donât have to give this one back, do I? Because when it comes to stuff like that, youâre pretty stubborn.â
âNo, itâs yours,â you said, smiling. You were grateful for his teasingâit cut through the awkwardness. You couldâve stayed silent for hours. âBut if I catch you getting into another fight, Iâll beat you with that board.â
JJ laughed, shaking his head. His gaze flicked between the board and you. He was ridiculously excited about the surfboard but trying hard not to show it. âFair deal. But just so weâre clear, every cool move I pull off with this board? Iâm crediting you. âThanks to Princess for this wave,â that kind of thing. Youâre my sponsor now.â
You rolled your eyes, but you couldnât deny his antics made you laugh. He was fun to be around. You were glad the whole âstatusâ nonsense between you two seemed to be fading. It wasnât just youâhe had his own assumptions about you too. But it felt like youâd both moved past that. âOkay. Sponsorshipâs over. Go find your wave.â
JJ carefully propped the board against the wall, his expression softening. âJokes aside, thanks. I mean it. This means a lot. Just donât tell anyone I said thatâgotta protect my image.â He smiled, dimples showing as he ran a hand through his hair.
You smiled back, nodding quickly. âDonât worry, your secretâs safe.â
As you both grinned, JJâs eyes flicked from you to the surfboard. Following his gaze, your eyes drifted to his hands, gently tracing the board like it was fragile.
âIâm leaving the island tomorrow.â The words tumbled out, and you saw his hands freeze. His gaze landed on you, but you kept your focus on the board, pretending to admire its design. It really was a beautiful surfboard. âSoâI wanted to say thank you.â
His blue eyes pierced through you as if that was even possible. JJ didnât say anything to make the moment heavier, just nodded. For several seconds, neither of you spoke. Realizing the air had gotten heavier, you shifted your tone to something more casual. âI could drive you home if you want.â
You werenât the kind of person to offer, but making him carry a surfboard all the way home felt cruel.
JJ opened his mouth to respond, but a car horn blared from down the street. Both of you turned toward the sound. Outside the car, John B and Kiara were leaning against it, with Pope, Cleo, and Sarah visible through the windows. Pope waved at JJ from where he hung halfway out of the window.
When Sarahâs eyes met yours, you instinctively tugged at your shirt. There wasnât anything visible, but stillâyou felt uneasy. âWow,â you said, feigning amusement. âYour entourage is here.â
JJ hesitated, looking momentarily torn. Finally, he sighed, a guilty smile creeping onto his face. His gaze dropped to your hand still fidgeting with your shirt. For a split second, it seemed like he wanted to grab your hand, to stop you.
âNothingâs showing,â he said, his eyes lingering on your waist. You knew that, but the idea of anyone finding out still terrified you. Especially someone from Rafeâs family. He didnât want them to know, and neither did you. Thatâs why you felt the need to be extra cautious around Sarah and Wheezie.
âI know. Itâs justââ You stopped, shutting your eyes briefly before opening them again. It was paranoia, but understandable. âRelax. No one knows, I swear.â His hand almost reached out to your arm, but he stopped, remembering his friends were watching from the car.
âGo,â you said, shrugging. You composed yourself. âLooks like youâve got a ride after all.â You smiled.
JJ paused for a beat, then flashed a crooked smile. He hated the awkwardness lingering between you. âIf this board isnât as good as you said, youâre getting an earful. Iâll call you.â He walked backward, teasing. You couldnât help but chuckle at his words.
As you walked toward your front door, you noticed his movements slow. He stopped, turned, and looked back at you. It was like heâd remembered something heâd forgotten to do. Placing the surfboard down gently, his eyes briefly darted away from yours.
Then he walked up to you and stopped right in front of you. After a brief, silent pause, you felt his arms wrap around you. Was he⌠hugging you? Seriously? The gesture caught both of you off guard. Youâd never imagined this kind of closeness. But then again, you hadnât imagined buying him a surfboard either. So, it didnât feel wrong. If buying him a gift made you feel this close, then it wasnât strange that heâd feel close enough to hug you.
You returned the gesture, wrapping your arms around him. His grip was firm, and the scent of salt and ocean filled your senses. How did he always smell so much like the sea?
The hug was short, but both of you felt the strangeness of it. Once againâyou felt like youâd crossed a line. Broken some unspoken rule.
JJ shrugged as he pulled back. âYeah, thatâs it. See you, uh⌠whatever.â
You took a deep breath, watching him stand there. You hated goodbyes. You were going to miss this island, and nowâ
âYeah⌠goodbye.â You pushed your hair behind your shoulders, trying to steady your voice. You didnât understand why you felt like you were losing a friend. Like you were going to⌠miss him?
Stop. Donât even think about it.
JJ nodded, picking up the surfboard as he walked toward the car. You watched him for a moment before turning to the front door and stepping into your car. Through the windshield, you caught a glimpse of Kiara muttering something to Sarah. Whatever she was saying, you couldnât hear.
When JJ got into the car, he paused, lowering his head for a brief moment before looking outside again.
He mouthed something to the group. Not to you, but to the friends in the car. âJust shut up.â
When he gave you a quick nod, you returned it before starting your car. Watching them drive off, you felt a strange mix of relief and melancholy. Youâd thanked JJ, and that was all you wanted. It was done.
Except for the quiet ache of losing a friend.
Youâd left only a few clothes back at the house on the island. The furniture and everything else stayed in your room. Your parents insisted the room remain untouchedâthey wanted you to know there was still a home for you there. They even promised not to change a thing.
The first few months were bound to be hard; you knew that. Living alone was going to take some getting used to. But you hoped itâd all be worth it when you finally held your baby.
Now, you were sitting on the couch in your new place, sipping a green smoothie. Youâd have given anything for a coffee, but pregnancy meant sacrifices. A little caffeine might not hurt, but you didnât want to risk it. The smoothie was healthy, though it tasted awful.
It had only been six days since the move. Youâd allowed yourself time to explore the area, taking walks around the quiet streets. Your parents had offered to stay with you for a few days, but you politely declined. You wanted to settle in on your own. Leaning on their warmth and presence only to have it ripped away later would have made the loneliness worse. You couldnât let that happen.
Morning sickness had eased enough for a few walks, so youâd wandered the calm streets near your house. Quiet, orderly, nothing like Outer Banks. You couldnât help but compare the two. Everything here was different. The people, the lifestyleâit all felt so structured and tame. But a part of you missed the chaos of the island. The freedom. The absurdity of going to the store in a bikini without anyone batting an eye. That tight-knit community where everyone knew each otherâs names.
Youâd visited the local park a few times. It was rarely crowded, and you hadnât met anyone yet. By the time you arrived, most of the adults and kids were just beginning to trickle in.
So, here you were: your own place. Did that make you an adult?
How did adults even make friends? Scratch thatâhow did anyone past a certain age make friends? As a kid, it was easy. Just ask someone to play with you, and that was it. Middle school? Same thing.
But now? You didnât know a soul here. What were you supposed to do? Walk up to someone and introduce yourself?
Terrifying thought.
Still, maybe worth trying, right?
-
Socializing wasnât supposed to feel like this.
Your eyes scanned the parkâs scenery. The leaves rustled gently in the breeze, and birds chirped in the branches above. A group of kids played in a sandbox, their laughter mingling with the faint sounds of distant traffic.
You clasped your hands over your stomach, exhaling deeply. âMaybe this is good for me,â you thought.
But the whole idea still felt horrifying. Sitting at home wouldâve been worse, though. At least you were out, breathing fresh air.
Introducing yourself to someone, though? Out of the question. No anxiety attacks, but your chest tightened just thinking about it. No, youâd just sit and enjoy the park for a bit. That would be enough.
Your gaze dropped to the book in your lap: Healthy Nutrition and Development During Pregnancy. You fiddled with the corner of its cover. Would someone else find this funny? Carrying a guidebook instead of a novel wasnât something even you wouldâve expected a few months ago. But here you were, on the verge of a whole new chapter. Screw what anyone thoughtâyou were preparing for your future.
Suddenly, the bench shifted slightly as someone sat down beside you. The movement snapped you out of your thoughts. You glanced up to find a middle-aged woman with an energetic demeanor. Her dyed-blond hair revealed a hint of gray at the roots, and a steaming coffee cup rested in her hands.
âUgh, I hope I can finish this before it goes cold,â she muttered to herself before calling out to the playground. âTati! No running, sweetheart!â
She waved toward the child before turning back to you with a wide smile.
âLovely day, isnât it?â she chirped.
You gave her a polite smile, nodding. âIt is,â you replied, subtly shifting your book closer to your lap. Her eyes flicked to the book in your hands, narrowing slightly as if trying to make out the title. âIs that a⌠guidebook?â she finally asked.
You tilted your head slightly. âYes,â you said simply, hoping thatâd be enough to end the conversation.
âA pregnancy guide?â she pressed, her curiosity accompanied by a cheerful smile that didnât quite reach her eyes. âHow sweet! Helping out a sister or expecting a niece?âOh, where are my manners? Iâm Viola.â
Her question caught you off guard. You hesitated briefly before giving your name. âUh, no. Itâs for me,â you said with a small smile.
Her expression shifted instantly. Her eyes widened, her grin turning stiff and awkward. âFor you? OhâŚâ
You nodded, feeling heat creep up your cheeks. She had seemed friendly at first, but the subtle judgment on her face now was impossible to ignore.
âHow far along?â she asked, as if the question was perfectly natural.
âSixteen weeks,â you mumbled, pretending to smooth the bookâs pages. The weight of her gaze made your skin crawl.
âAh, so young,â she murmured, taking a long sip from her coffee. When she lowered the cup, her eyes lingered on you, as though dissecting every detail. âHow old are you, if you donât mind me asking?â
âTwenty,â you replied, keeping your tone neutral but feeling the words land heavier than you intended. You watched her eyebrows knit together as she took a sharp breath.
âTwenty? You look barely old enough to drive!â she exclaimed, clearly not trying to be subtle. Then, almost conspiratorially, âBut⌠you must be married, right?â
Your hands instinctively moved to rest on your stomach, but you hesitated to respond. The silence must have been answer enough because her eyes flicked from your belly back to your face.
âOh,â she said knowingly, her smile tightening further. âSo⌠is the father still in the picture?â
What was this, an interrogation?
You swallowed the lump forming in your throat. Was it the tone of her voice? Or the audacity of her questions? Whatever it was, it stung. âThatâs not something I need to discuss with you,â you said firmly, fighting to keep the frustration out of your voice.
Viola shrugged, but her scrutinizing look didnât waver. âFair enough. But raising a baby at your age, and without⌠well, you know. Itâs going to be tough. Donât you think this was a bit⌠impulsive?â
Her words hit like a cold wind. You tightened your grip on your stomach and tilted your head slightly. âThatâs none of your business,â you said, your voice harder now.
Viola didnât back down. âYes, maybe youâre right. But people talk, sweetheart. And usually, they judge the ones they think made the wrong decisionsâŚâ She paused, pursing her lips. âWell, they judge.â
That was all you needed to hear. You tucked your book under your arm like you were putting it in a bag, got up, and said, âI think itâs time for me to leave,â your tone colder than even you expected.
Viola raised a hand as if trying to smooth things over. âOh, I didnât mean to offend,â she said, but the look in her eyes betrayed the opposite. âIâm just saying this for your own good.â
You could shove your âthoughtsâ up your ass.
Turning on your heel, you walked toward the parkâs exit. The sound of her coffee cup being placed on the bench and her murmuring words echoed behind you. A fresh start sounded nice, you thought. But a new beginning wasnât a guarantee of escaping old judgments.
There was no way you were going out to socialize again anytime soon. You hated that woman. With every fiber of your being. The way she judged you with that smug little brain of hersâit made your blood boil. You had no memory of how you even made it back home.
You made yourself some hot cocoa, hoping it would calm your nerves. Honestly, lying flat in the grass wouldnât have been enough to shake off the anger at this point.
Even though you tried to distract yourselfâknowing full well that stress wasnât good for the babyâit wasnât working. The incident replayed in your mind on a loop. You were certain youâd shiver every time you walked past that park again.
Who did she think she was, anyway? How could someone pass judgment on a stranger like that? The sheer audacityâit was baffling.
The sound of your phone notification pulled you out of your spiraling thoughts. Glancing over, you reached for the phone resting on the couch.
You waited for a reply, but when nothing came, you set the phone down again. At least one of you was having a good day. Even though you felt like you were on the verge of exploding, you took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself.
The sudden ring of your phone startled you. You looked over, eyes narrowing slightly in surprise. JJ Maybank was calling you. Right now.
Pressing the phone to your ear, you grabbed the half-full cocoa mug from the table with your other hand. You werenât going to drink it anymore. You were too annoyed to even think about washing it, but you figured you could at least move it somewhere out of sight. JJâs voice came through the speaker, and despite everything, a small smile crept onto your face. For all his antics, he was a decent guy.
Heading toward the kitchen, you heard the cheerfulness in his voice as he began, âUsed it this morning.â He was talking about the surfboard, excitement practically dripping from his words.
Frowning slightly, you placed the mug on the counter. This morning? Shouldnât he have been at work? âThis morning? Werenât you supposed to be at work?â
There was a brief pause before JJ let out a muffled laugh. âGot fired,â he said casually, like it was the most normal thing in the world. Honestly, with him, it kind of was. You couldnât help but laugh a little.
You werenât surprisedâof course, you werenât. With the phone still pressed to your ear, you wandered over to the window and glanced outside. âFigured,â you said, your voice laced with playful sarcasm.
JJ didnât miss a beat, his tone now teasingly accusatory. âWait a second. Did you bet on me?â
Smiling, you shook your head even though he couldnât see it, your attention momentarily caught by a cat wandering down the street. JJ cleared his throat, bringing you back. âNo, but I wish I had,â you said.
His response came in the form of a dramatic groan. âThatâs the meanest thing Iâve heard all week. Youâre better than this.â
You turned around and walked toward the kitchen, your tone a little sharper now. âGet used to it.â
JJ responded immediately, his voice carrying a hint of challenge. âNever,â he shot back. Then, after a brief pause, his tone softened, but he added a teasing edge. âPregnancy hormones have turned you into a completely different person. And itâs only been six days.â
The way he always knew how to push your buttonsâand somehow make you smile instead of snapâwas maddening. You found yourself tapping the corner of the table with your fingers, a habit you didnât even notice until it happened. âI take pride in that,â you said, a playful grin tugging at your lips.
JJ came back stronger, more confident this time. âHey, do you think itâs the hormones, or is it because you havenât seen my handsome face for six whole days?â There was that familiar cocky tone, but you could tell he was trying to make you laugh. âIâd bet everything itâs because you havenât seen my handsome face.â
âEven your surfboard?â you teased, your voice lifting just enough to show you were fully invested in the banter now. You moved toward the living room and dropped onto the couch, your gaze briefly flitting to the TV. But your attention was fully locked on JJ.
âNot a chance,â he replied instantly, almost defensive. âThe boardâs off-limits. Too precious.â
You chuckled, grabbing the nearby blanket and pulling it over your lap. âThen youâve lost everything except the surfboard,â you said, shaking your head in mock disapproval. JJâs laugh echoed through the phone, rich and warm, before he quipped, âYouâve been extra rude lately,â his voice carrying a mix of mock hurt and teasing amusement.
You didnât just roll your eyesâyou sank deeper into the couch, grabbing a pillow to prop yourself up. Of course, heâd called just to mess with you. Was he bored? Had he decided you were the best target for entertainment? âIâve always been like this,â you replied with a shrug he couldnât see.
âNope,â JJ shot back instantly, his tone softer but still certain. A brief silence followed, filled only by the sound of your own breathing, before he spoke again. This time, his voice was a little more sincere. âSo⌠howâs it going? Living alone and all?â
You didnât hate that he asked. Actually, it felt nice to talk to someone. As an adultâor whatever weird in-between phase you were inâsocializing wasnât exactly easy. It hadnât been easy on the island either, but at least that had been your choice. This wasnât.
You took a deep breath, realizing the question was harder to answer than youâd expected. âIt sucks,â you admitted finally, the honesty not surprising you in the slightest.
âWhy?â JJâs voice was softer now, laced with just enough concern to feel genuine but not suffocating. It was like he always knew how to navigate these moments without overstepping. And honestly, it was strangeâgood strange.
You tried to sort through the chaos in your head. âI donât know,â you said with a faint sigh. âI havenât really connected with anyone. I donât know anyone here.â
JJ, ever the problem-solver in his own weird way, jumped in with his trademark ease. âThen make friends with the stray cats,â he said, that classic carefree tone of his bringing a smile to your face despite everything.
âI already have you,â you teased back, your voice dripping with sarcasm. âI couldnât possibly betray you.â
His laugh from the other end of the line was contagious. âNot funny.âÂ
Fidgeting with the edge of the blanket, you hesitated before mumbling, âAre you okay? How are you?â Somehow, over the phone, it felt easier to askâless intimidating than it wouldâve been face-to-face.
âIâm amazing,â JJ said, his voice taking on a flat, almost robotic tone that screamed deflection.
âYour ego is exhausting,â you retorted, matching his sarcasm. Why couldnât he just answer the question for once? Did everything have to be a game? âSeriously. How are you? After⌠you know, that day.â
JJ exhaled deeply, and when he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, almost reluctant. âI donât live with my dad anymore.â
You sat up straighter, grabbing the remote to lower the TVâs volume. âWait, really?â
âYeah,â he said simply, like it wasnât a big deal. âPacked up my stuff and left.â
It wasnât exactly shocking. In fact, you were relieved heâd done it. Knowing heâd been living with someone who hurt him was unbearable. But still, you couldnât stop your brow from furrowing. You couldnât shake the worry. âAre you staying with John B?â
JJâs silence was unexpected. You listened to the sound of his breathing, the faintest hitch before he finally answered. âKind of?â
âWhat does that mean?â Your voice sharpened with concern. Why was he dancing around the answer when he could just tell you?
JJ sighed again, his tone shifting as though heâd stepped further away from the phone. âThey donât know I left yet. And I donât want to talk about it.â
He hadnât told his closest friends? Why? They werenât the type to judge him. You didnât know them well, but you were sure of that much. It didnât make sense.
Even as your worry grew, you knew pressing him wasnât the right move. âSo where are you staying?â you asked cautiously.
JJâs tone hardened. âI said I donât want to talk about it.â There it wasâhis three-year-old tantrum mode. Did he really think people didnât have the right to worry about him? Idiot.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, already feeling your patience wearing thin. âAs your friend, Iâm allowed to be concerned about your safety, JJ. Just tell me where youâre staying.â
His tone shifted again, this time lighter, more teasing. âFriend, huh? Thatâs nice. Kook and Pogue forever.â
âShut it,â you snapped, your irritation clear. All you wanted was to know he was safe. âJust tell me already.â
JJ paused, then let out a soft laughâthe kind you knew was covering up something deeper. Even a toddler could tell. âI stayed with them for a few days. Been figuring it out since.â
You frowned. That wasnât a solution. âYou need to tell them,â you said gently.
He responded with the same stubbornness youâd come to expect, but his tone hinted at a smirk. âThis is my problem, princess.â Then, as if to shift the mood, he added, âThis is the first time weâve talked on the phone. Cute, right? Now, tell me about your day.â
Despite the worry gnawing at you, you relaxed just a little. He wouldnât be joking around like this if things were terrible⌠right?
You hoped so causeâJJ is your friend.

"You humans confuse me. You try so very hard to be as boring as everyone else, and, when some gifted soul is born that has some small degree of uniqueness to it, you beat and break it until it fits into a dull little box that you can understand. Explain this to me, if you please."
The glowing figure across the table illuminated the void gently. It's clear the abyss and the furniture weren't actually here, but the tantalizing way their shadows and the darkness intermingled was almost spellbinding, distracting enough to almost lose the train of thought about how to explain.
âI donât think any mortal being has found a way to live up to their ideals, but thatâs just distracting from the point isnât it? I could give you what we know about biology and instinct and evolution, but that doesnât really do more than give points of information, not an explanation.âÂ
The figure remains silent, perhaps knowing that the thought isnât complete and thereâs more for you to say. Itâs easy when you have all the time in the world possibly.
âI think if you asked a hundred different humans why itâs this way youâd get a thousand different answers, so all I can really offer is my explanation. And the truth I see is this, humans are built scared. We spend all our lives being scared of mistakes, of being left behind, of being alone. Part of that is biological, but I think itâs more the hardness and greed that has been taught from generation to generation, line to line. It might be that weâll never be rid of it, and it might be that being rid of it simply opens us up to being devastated, but that fear is taught in every interaction, every time a scarce resource needs to be distributed and itâs up to people to decide who is more like me, ie who deserves it.â
With no frame of reference itâs simple to lump humanity together, isnât it?
âThe truth is that everyone deserves it, no one deserves it, no one deserves anything. And even still we are forced to make these value judgments because lives hang in the balance and tribes fulfill so many needs that we cannot give them up. Even if we wanted to, which I guarantee you most do not. So we mold ourselves, we mold each other to fit into the box that is the most like our tribe, from the left eating itâs own to the right threatening anyone too different. We focus on our differences because that makes each of us special and unique, but also terrifying and terrified.â
The table is getting fuzzier, almost like itâs struggling to maintain some form. The aura emanating from the creature opposite might be getting brighter, or it might not; it's hard to tell. It does speak after a moment of silence, âFear is a powerful motivator, and perhaps itâs only when you can move past that fear that there will be no need for that box.â
âPerhaps. Or perhaps when we move past the need to understand something to not fear it, there wonât be any more boxes at all.â
âYou humans confuse me. You try so very hard to be as boring as everybody else, and, when some gifted soul is born that has some small degree of uniqueness to it, you beat and break it until it fits into a dull little box that you can understand. Explain this to me, if you please.â

MASTERLIST
Your heart was completely shattered. Your heart was racing to get out of your car at the airport. In exactly 20 minutes your boyfriend will be back home after the worst weekend ever imagined. You couldn't assist the Brazilian GP because of your work schedule. You had a few meetings after Mexico gp. And you felt so guilty about it. You knew lando would be more protected if you were there. At least in the intimacy of you, emotionally speaking. Having someone there for him to hug and to comfort him. to calm his mind. To stop the self hatred you knew it was playing right now in his head.Â
Lando is an overthinker and you get him because you were also one. You knew to which scenarios his mind can travel to and how painful it can be for him to live with himself sometimes. You were fighting your tears reading all of the atrocious things people commented online. You knew that wasn't real life. But you also knew he would see all that and how that would weigh in his heart. They can never let him win. And the worst part was only because it was just him. Other drivers could do or say worse things and everybody would laugh and brush it off. But when it came to Lando, he was a monster, a loser, an arrogant son of a bitch. That hurt deeply. Because in reality lando is the sweetest soul you have ever met. And you knew how vulnerable he could be. Tho you always admired him for that. You always thought that the bravest and strongest people in this world are the ones that admit to need help, the ones that are vulnerable and open about it. In a world this cruel, that was no easy task. But he did time and time again.and he did even knowing how shitty people were gonna be to him. Though, he did it for people he knew that counted on him. Lando always talks about how people sometimes come to him saying he has saved their lives and the impact he had on them. It's something beautiful yet that weighted on his shoulders as well, you thought.Â
You crossed the airport gates. Anxiety shaking your whole body. You wanted to hug him so bad. To tell him everything was gonna be fine.Â
You opened the flight information he sent you before his plane took off so you looked for the probable gate he was coming out of when landed. Even though you were anxious you were also relieved that he was home with you.
After a few minutes passed by, a lot of people started coming out of the door you were waiting for. You started gazing at everyone just to find him. After a bunch of people got out, there he was. One of the last ones to go through the door. When you saw him your body almost came undone. You were out of air for a moment while the two of you got closer. When he is finally within reach, you give him the strongest hug you could. He melted on you, hugging you by your neck. Not much time passed when you heard him crying hid in your neck. Your heart that was shattered, broke immediately. You tighter your grip unto him. He started to sob and you couldn't hold your own tears at that point. You knew he had the worst time on that flight, alone with his cruel thoughts torturing him for hours. And there was nothing that you could do to protect him. You couldn't say a word. There was nothing that you could say that it would make things better right now.Â
Lando was sobbing and shaking. His levels of anxiety reached a high when he saw you standing there looking for him desperately with your eyes. He needed you. But lifeâs a bitch and you couldn't stay with him throughout the whole American leg. He came undone in your arms. He needed to hug you for so long. He was broken. His mind replying to all the mistakes he made. All of his wrong decisions. All of the shit he said. He was embarrassed, angry and defeated. He was ashamed of himself. Disgusted. Frustrated and scared. Â
Yu rubbed his back trying to comfort him in the hug and trying to not cry so you could be the strong one for him. He needed you, you knew it. And you wanted to fix all of this in a snap of fingers, but you couldn't.Â
âItâs okay baby. You are gonna be alright, I promise. I love you. Youâre home now ", Yu said, to make him feel at least slightly better. When he heard you he started sobbing even harder. You let him take all the time he needed. While doing so, you tried to see where you were and how you could, if someone was recording and taking a picture. Fortunately you were almost alone. It was the last flight arriving for today. You feel relieved knowing this won't be used against him by the cruel internet trolls.Â
(...)
The drive home was silent. No music, no speaking. He didn't even look at you the whole ride. He was looking through the window avoiding any contact with society you thought while driving your Audi R8 V10 GT RWD through the illuminated Monaco streets. It was around 9pm. You had cooked for him some home made pasta you knew he adored. You just wanted him to feel better.Â
When you got home, he took his bags to the room with your help. You left his second suitcase next to his wardrobe and saw him lying on the bed.
âI made your fav homemade pasta. Do you want me to bring it here and eat it in bed?â you offered him with a soft voice. He was looking to the ceiling. He did not answer right away, but after a few moments he did.
âI'm not hungry, but thank you. Maybe i'll eat laterâ he said with a deep cracky voice and turned himself in the bed showing you his back. You frowned a bit.Â
He couldn't look at you. He hated that you could see him like this. He was ashamed of himself drawing in self pity and self hatred. He felt he let you down.Â
âAln, did you eat something during the flight at least?â you asked worriedly, walking forward to the bed so you could get closer to him. You sat on the table next to his back looking at him. You didn't want to touch him just because you didn't know if he would want you to. You didn't want to be invasive. You stayed in silence for a few minutes. You understood he didn't eat, that he didn't want to either or speak. So you stood up and let him have his alone time closing the door gently behind your back.
You ate alone that night.in silence just as if you could hear him from your kitchen aisle. The past was really good. You turned off your phone after washing the dishes and tidied the kitchen and living room up. You didn't want to see what social media was saying about your lover before bed. It was already enough scrolling and reading so many people wishing lando to die. That was the hardest part of it all. You left your phone charging on the kitchen counter and went to your shared room. When you entered he was already showered getting into the bed again. You half smiled at him even though he couldn't see you. You put on your pajamas in silence and climbed up the bed. He looked at you while you were getting comfortable next to him.Â
Your eyes met. Any of you said anything. Just looked at each other trying to read each other thought as if that was possible. He licked his dry lips. His eyes turned glassy.
âI messed everything up,â he said almost in a whisper. Your heart is breaking again. You shook your head at him getting closer and bringing him into your chest. You hugged him tightly.
âNo you didnt baby. Sometimes people are just mean, you know? They will interpret things as the wishâ you said softly rubbing his back and arm and caressing his hair gently. He felt a bit better under your frame. He felt protected but as a little kid when missbehaved so now he tries to find comfort. He didn't want to cry.he was trying hard not to let tears stream down his cheeks. You kissed his forehead and made him look at you. âI know you dont wanna talk about it but i love and i am so deeply and entirely proud of youâ you whisper close to his face. You saw him pout and the first tears coming down his face. You hugged him tightly. He hid in your neck and eventually fell asleep. You wanted to set the world on fire for this. You wanted to ruin every single person who says awful things about it. The comments, the media. You wanted to destroy everything and everyone just to protect him. He doesn't deserve this. He is an angel and you can't believe the world could only see the devil in him.Â
Lando tried to sleep but he couldn't. Everytime he closed his eyes, all of the tragic scenes from the race replayed in his mind. How the car felt, the rain, the radio messages, Oscar's voice, comments from his engineer . everything replayed in his head torturing him the worst way possible. He felt like getting down. He felt alone and miserable. He remembered Oscar words replying in his mind over and over again. âYou will eventually make it, mateâ. It was a positive message but he replayed it like a fucking nightmare.Â
What if he never makes it? What if he doesn't have what it takes? What if people are right? What if he is actually a monster and deserves to die? What if he did? Would they like him again or figure him out? Would anyone care about his feelings? Why does it have to be him and not someone else? Why are they all so cruel to him?
He couldn't stop thinking about every single detail about the weekend. He didn't want to celebrate his birthday anymore. He had you there but couldn't look at you. He felt disgusted by himself. He can't control it. He wants to go back into go karts and stop the time when he was actually happy and having fun with his friends. Now that line between friends and enemies is so blurry for him. Max didn't talk to him like before when all of this shit started. He knew Max was really competitive, of course he did, everyone knew it since day 1. But what about their friendship? Lando shit talked, max shit talked. He felt so confused even by his own feelings around this whole shitty situation or championship situation. Whatever you want to call it.Â
(...)
When you woke up the next morning he was gone. You felt kind of confused for a bit. You heard him talking so you guessed he was speaking on the phone. When you got up from bed you walked out the room to find him. When you got closer to the living room you knew he was talking to Max on facetime because you heard his voice.Â
âMorning, guysâ you said, getting into the kitchen for some water to take your thyroid pills. Lando looked at you half-smile.Â
âGood morning babyâ he said as sweetly as he could. You smiled at him. Before coming back to your room to shower and stuff you went and gave him a good morning kiss making Max almost throw up when he saw you in a funny way. You showed him the middle finger and disappeared so he could talk in private with his mate. You respected his place a lot. And i guess thatâs why you understand so much each other.Â
(...)
The following day things got worse. Lando hasn't eaten any meal you prepared for him, didn't even want to have take out or anything. You found him crying in the kitchen and in the garden by the pool of your house. His anxiety was killing him, you knew. The desperation and guilt were eating him alive and you didn't know what to do rather than try to talk and comfort him.
He was sitting on the sofa in the living room. His sight was fixed on the floor without moving. You got alarmed because you knew what was going on. You got close slowly to not trigger him even more. His face was red, his hands sweaty and shaking. You sat on the floor diagonal from him looking at him. Slowly and gently you grabbed his hands trying to capture his brain's attention and get him out of the fog he was in. You were almost sure he was having an anxiety attack and he started because of your touch. You gently rubbed your fingers in his hands. He was out of breath for a moment and you got scared so you tried to do as your therapist told you in case someone you know goes through this.Â
âLan, can you hear me? Try to pay attention to my voice okay? I'm here and I'm with you dull be alrightâ you said really softly trying to make him look at you. You looked for his eyes with your gaze. âItâs not as terrible as you think, baby, I promise. You aren't all of those things people commentâ you used your words carefully. His hands caught your strength and so you reassured him. You saw his pout becoming deeper. You hurt to see him like this. It was so unfair. He doesnt deserve this, god. And he broke. He broke down again. His tears streamed down his face. Sobbing in so much pain. You sat next to him to hug him tightly once more. But now you knew it was worse. He was shaking under your arms.you let him go through this. So he can let go of all of this shit inside him. âI promise lando, you aren't all of those things. People are just mean and cruel. You are a good baby and so talented. Gifted. You have it in you I promise, I can see itâ you tried to comfort him with your words as well, trying to distract your mind from the tragic thought he was dealing with by himself. A few tears fell down your face. It was a hard time. And you were trying to be strong for him.Â
âI'm so stupid I'm sorryâ he sobbed and you shook your head.Â
âNo, Lando, you aren't. I promise okay? Believe me.i know you and you aren't. And this will pass. All the people that know you for real, we love you and we are so proud of you. You had an amazing year. You are fucking fighting a three time world champion, even sooner than he did with lewis back in 2021. Thatâs huge my love. Your dream is near, I just know it. Because I know you, and youâll make it, baby. You didn't let anyone down. You're getting stronger so when you finally make it, all of these moments will make it taste so much better and sweeterâ you explained while rubbing his back. Your words made an effect on him. Heslowly calming down. He didn't want to let you go. He wanted to just stay there in your arms. Where he felt safe and sound. Noone could hurt him there. That was what made him fall for you. You saw him. You knew him. And you care about him. He was finally important for someone for being lando, and not lando norris formula one driver. His past lovers left him feeling confused whether they loved him for him or their idea of him. You came outta nowhere and blew him away. You were brutally honest, no filter yet so gentle and caring with your words. He thought his perfect girl didn't exist but then there was you, listening to him for hours if he needed to. Giving him the best advice and clearing his perspective. Always cheering him up. Cracking jokes so he could distract and feel relaxed. Heknew he was in love with you the moment you offered to give him a ride because he was drunk as well at a new years party. It was normal but the fact that a stranger could do that for him blew his mind. He never admitted afraid people would think itâs weird. But it is what it is. Your smile ended him right there and when you started cracking jokes he didn't want to live in that damn car for the rest of his life. So here you are 4 years later, and you still be the greatest person in the world and the one who knew him the most. He felt your lips on his forehead. For a moment he thought about leaving racing. What if his life was better without it in it? He could go back to Bristol and be with his friends. With you. Maybe start a family and have a normal job so you could spend each day together. He started crying again at that thought. He loved racing but this year was the hardest yet amazing one.Â
He finally calmed down after a few minutes in silence. He looked at you with puppy eyes. You caressed his face gently brushing a few tears falling down still.Â
âWould you be there with me? Could you?â he asked, making you a bit confused. And he noticed. âTo the races. I need you there. Please. To every race and when I become a champion, would you be there with me? You could feel he's scared. You half smiled at him melting as his comment.
âOf course I'll be there, baby. Iâll always be there for and with you. If I could , I would set the whole world on fire just for you. Never doubt it, okay?â he nodded and you pulled him closer to give him so many little kisses around his whole face making him gigle a little.Â
âI love you, y/nâ he said looking at you fondly.
âI love you, lando. Everythingâs gonna be alrightâ you said, assuring him and gave a peck on his lips. âGo have a shower and dress cute im gonna take you out on a date before your birthdayâ you said more lighful to cheer him up and his face lit up.
âReally?â you noddedat him and send him to shower agin funny. Before going with him so yhou both looked facy, you needed to say something to the world. You couldnt stay crossed arms and do nothing about it.Â

You turned off your phone once again. You were already so fed up with it all. Let them talk. You were sure they would choke with their own shit eventually.Â
but continued with the day. Lando was still a little off but he was looking better so maybe he is actually feeling better. You took out to dinner at a restaurant he always dreamed of going to. He was so happy to be there. The food was delicious. It was near the beach though it is colder here so we looked at it through the glass window. You gossip and talk about anything and everything as if everything was alright. And it was a fact it was. Because this is real life. Not social media. A few people stopped you while eating to ask for pictures and Lando said yes every time you even became a photoshoot photographer. Nice people telling him nice things was what he needed right now. Plus, you would never be pissed off by his fans. You were actually grateful for them. Of course, some can be disrespectful but you knew the real one was it. You really embraced Lando's life even though itâs nothing like the life youâd dreamed of to have one day. But he is the boy of your dreams so why would it be a problem.Â
November, 13th
When the clock hit midnight, the restaurant made a cake for him so we all sang him happy birthday. You chose his favorite type of cake. He giggled all nervous and shy. His cheeks red while his eyes showed a little sparkle while watching the candles. He blew them. You recorded the whole thing and took so many pictures. He thanked the staff and staff of the restaurant and they let you enjoy the cake in comfort. Your heart was full to see him a little back again.Â
After The restaurant kicked you out because they needed to close, you decided to do a road trip through the mountains of monaco. You always enjoy a good ride with good music and good company. And you also had sex in the car. You kind of guessed he needed to take his frustrations out somehow because you had the rough sex you really enjoyed. He joked it was his best birthday present making you laugh. He was joking again.Â
âThank youâ he said while gently rubbing your naked chest. You were seated on him. You smiled and leaned for a soft kiss on his lips. You really loved him. And all you wanted for him was happiness and well being. And you would do anything to make sure he is okay.Â
You came back home and had another round of sex. Enjoying yourselves in intimacy. Lando finally fell asleep after a terrible few days, in the calm of your body. His face on your bare chest. You clothed him and fell asleep relieved.

yourusername: What can I say about you? There's no words that can describe your greatness. Or my feelings for you. I'm so grateful you were born on November 13th. 25 years ago my best friend and the love of my life was brought to this world. And sometimes what unfair is that, right? A world that is so cruel to you. A world that doesn't deserve your greatness and kindness nor your attention. You are the greatest son, brother, uncle, friend and lover. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't actually know you. We are all so lucky that you choose us to spend your time on this world with. Thank you for being who you care. For caring about the people you love and making sure we are alright and happy. Thank you for being the light that you are for so many lives. Thank you for being vulnerable. I admire you so much, lan. You are the strongest and bravest human I know. so honest and open. Anyone who says otherwise, actually, doesn't know you. I know this is not the best birthday of your life, but I promise you I'll try to make it better. Thank you for being who you are to me. I promise I see you and I care. You're the love of my life. And I'm so lucky you love me over any other human out there. So happy birthday to the prettiest and most genuine, real, fun, kind, warm person I have the chance to call mine everyday. Hope you have the best day you can have right now. Thatâs the least you deserve. I love you forever bestie. Donât ever change.

So you had a master plan for Lando's birthday. You went to the Hilton hotel for some coffee with Max and Lando of course. We lied and said pietra couldn't make it because she had a meeting and Lando believed. Truth was, you have contacted all of his friends and arregened flights so everyone could make it to Monaco on time. Pietra was the one in your house. You left her a spare key yesterday evening after coffee with alex. You gave her the directions and the idea of what you wanted while you and Max distracted Lando until 7pm, she decorated the house and received all of his friends. Lando had no clue of what was going on but he was so happy it was the second cake you brought to him. You recorded the moment and seeing him smile made your heart melt.Â

When 7pm came around we all âdecidedâ to go to your house and eat pizza for dinner. Lando even said to me that they could do a stream and have fun for a bit. You agreed and all knowing that wasn't gonna happen. The ride home was so much fun. You spent the 20 minute ride screaming a one direction song from the top of your lungs. You sang Lando âthrough the darkâ And he sang âYou and iâ.it was lovely, Max almost threw up when you kissed. Luckily he was driving so he hadn't watched much of your pda.Â
You got out of the car trying to play it cool though you were so nervous. You saw Max texting Pietra that you were close.the lights were off. And silent. Your nervousness took over you when you tried to open the door but let the keys fall nervously. Thankfully Max and Lando were discussing which type of pizza they would order. Finally you opened the door, lando behind you and so you turned on the lights.
Everyone jumped from everywhere saying happy birthday in unison. Yoursmile was so big but when you saw lando his smile was even bigger.
âSurprise!â you said and lando was still processing it. But when his friend started hugging him he started crying out of joy. He thought his friends weren't coming this year because of their busy schedule.but that was a lie you made them tell so lando wouldn suspect anything. Fortunately, they all kept the secret safe. Lando was so happy.Â
You all spent the night playing poker, drinking gin and tonics and surrounded by laughter and love. In the moment, around everybody, you felt lucky to be there. Especially to be in landos life. Everyone was so sweet and good just like him. He deserves the world.
Everyone went home around 2 am. You were exhausted and tipsy at the end of the night. So you put your pajamas on and sled straight on the bed. Lando wrapped his arms around your waist.
âThank you for everything. It was a great birthday. Thank u for always taking care of me always.you make me the happiestâ he said under a whisper looking at you. He looked so gorgeous with that little smile and tired eyes. You stroked his cheek gently, smiling.Â
âYou deserve to be happy darling. You are unstoppable. Better days at work will come,I know.but im grateful that you have so much love surrounding you. I love youâ he smiled widely listening to you and leaned to kiss you with so much feelings and passion. You were the greatest thing that ever happened to him and also the greatest decision he has ever made when he asked you out.

f1gossipofficial: here it is @/yourusername at the McLaren garage ready for fp1 cheering for his 4 year boyfriend @/landonorris! Lando was asked about the whole drama around the Brazil gp and his birthday and her statement and he said âIâm lucky to have her. I would set the world on fire for her. So yeah. We are the same that is why we work so well. It was a great birthday though. She brought my whole group of friend to Monaco for a poker night so yeahâ also he said that if it wasnât for her he wouldâve collapsed on his overthinking but thankfully she was there. We love a power couple on the grid!! What do we think about all of this? #LasVegasGP2024

It was the day. The day you were back to media duties. Back to being a target for social media. Back supporting your boyfriend no matter what. You even went on media day to be there for him if he needed it. You chatted with everyone around to entertain yourself while he was doing interviews.Â
Oscar helped a lot and the whole McLaren team to make Lando feel safe and actually enjoy the weekend. You Were grateful for it. At least they decided not to be dicks in front of his face.Â
Fp1 was about to start and you were proudly there in the garage to cheer on him. You were also anxious because you felt things almost like him and this competition is rather never racking. You kissed him gently but shortly. A good luck kiss before getting into the car. He smiled widely.Â
âGo be the best you can be. Youâre greatâ you told him sweetly.
âI'll try my best to impress you,â he replied, letting go of your hand.Â
âYou already do everyday babeâ you said smiling making him grin before walking into the car to start the first session of the weekend.Â
You watched from there how fp1 unfolded hoping this would be a great weekend.

last night i had a long late night talk with my transfem partner of 8 years, Charley, about my relationship with gender and sexuality and my body
I'm a fat bisexual cis woman, who has long felt like a failure not deserving to call myself feminine, let alone hyper femme
my longest friend group consists of mostly transfems and i wondered for a long time why i have such an easy way of relating to them so much, but it's clear to me now that it's their own relationship with femininity, that is not without challenge ofc, but is much more positive than that of cis women generally
when younger i thought i had to call myself a tomboy, because i didn't feel deserving of anything else
to this day i get upset when people they/them me, as it feels reassuring of my fears... or so i thought? Charley proposed that it might be that people who do it feel that there's "something" going on with my gender, that I'm not fully letting myself be my true self, but not in a way they think
i grew up poor
a middle child of 5 in a 1 bedroom apartment where we all slept together and clothes were inherited from older to younger
the second i started making money with art i started to dye my hair pink or red, and dress very cutesy girly, but after a while it became too much to be perceived
so i regressed in a way that i couldn't quite explain
there are so many thoughts swarming my head, I'm not the best at writing them down
I'm hyper femme
and fat
and don't shave
and i deserve to express myself outwardly even if others think I'm ugly and weird
i want to live my truth

Witch or magical Stiles recs..?
Hi! I did magical!Stiles fic recs here! This time, let's focus on witch!Stiles (my beloved)
A Thousand Fiery Suns of Angst - Just Press Play by apocryphal
All Stiles wants from life is to learn to control his magic, keep his grades up, and not die horribly while saving Beacon Hills from supernatural threats. It's all going pretty well until Derek Hale, werewolf extraordinaire, has to go and ask him on a date. That asshole.
The Wolf in the Tower by exclamation
Too many people are scared of witches so when Stiles accidentally sets a building on fire with magic, he is taken prisoner and dragged before Lord Hale. Rather than leave an untrained magic user free, Peter Hale thinks he might be able to make use of Stiles' skills and hands Stiles over to his sorceror Deaton to be trained. Stiles is still unsure about his future, but he's even more confused when he finds out that one of his new duties involves feeding the black wolf imprisoned at the top of one of the towers. There's something very strange about this wolf and Stiles can't help wondering if magic might be involved.
Dead Things by standinginanicedress
Derek blows some more smoke out. He chooses to look at Stilesâ mouth instead of in his eyes, again. âI need you to bring someone back.â âBack.â âFrom the dead.â âAbsolutely not,â Stiles scoffs, shaking his head. âNot for you, not for all the money in the world.â Derek looks at him, just looks. He is not going to accept no for an answer, and Stiles knows it, but it doesnât matter, because Stiles will not do that. He cannot do that, not again. âWhy not for me in specific?â
For My Flesh Had Turned to Fur, and My Thoughts Had Turned to You by literaryoblivion
Theyâve known about the other pack for quite some time now. They know the pack is young and small, formed together more by accident and necessity than anything else. But, they havenât done anything about them because theyâve been fairly quiet, kept to themselves, and havenât caused any trouble. That is until the Hales start hearing rumors about the McCall pack acquiring a very young and inexperienced but powerful witch. So Alpha Hale sends her eldest son, Derek, for all intents and purposes, to spy on the McCall pack and their so-called witch, to see what the truth of the situation is.
The Ink Under My Skin by rainsoakedshoes
Derek is looking for an Emissary. What he finds is Stiles Stilinski; resident witch. Stiles would do whatever it takes to protect the Hale pack and his Alpha. âI want to protect my pack as well as I can,â Derek continued. âEmissaries traditionally keep balance, having someone who wants to tip the odds in our favour may come in handy.â
Destiny is the Rising Sun by asswords
Stiles and Derek are best at keeping secrets â the biggest one being the fact that they knew each other long before Scott had to go and become a werewolf. (The second biggest secret belongs to Stiles, something about how heâs not allowed to tell Derek heâs the trusted advisor and kind of a witch.)
your fangs against my skin (the sound of your bones)
This was it, then, huh? It was that easy for Derek to invite someone to his den. Someone other than Stiles. He healed the wolf. Stiles killed his tormentor, mended his blood and bones, and let him sleep beside him. But none of it was enough. He wasnât a spark, after all, but a witch â evil and alone, locked up in his tower. Witches didnât get happy endings.
What I Did On My Summer Vacation by grimm
There's something weird about Beacon Hills that Stiles can't quite put his finger on. The way everyone in town knows his name the day he arrives. The way they insist the melancholic howling that echoes through the forest every night is just a dog. The way his dad denies getting a dog, even though Stiles comes home to find one sprawled across his bed, some big black thing whose eyes gleam red in the right light. The way that massive oak tree out in the woods vibrates under his touch, pulsing with sickly life. There's something weird going on in this town, and Stiles is determined to get to the bottom of it.
These Scars Tell A Story (But Itâs Not Mine) by HappyJuicyfruit
Derekâs eyes widened in confusion as Stiles babbled at him. âI know itâs not up to you, but youâre like, my guard, right? Youâve been keeping an eye on me? Tell your mom I wouldnât lie about this, my dad deserves to stay here. Heâs happy here, please let him stay!â Guard? Keeping an eye on him? âStiles, I have no idea what youâre talking about.â Stiles face crumpled, his hands clung to Derekâs shirt tighter as tears and snot dripped off his chin. Derek frantically tries to think of the right thing to say. âYou think- you think Iâm your guard? That Iâve been watching you to, what, make sure you donât do any magic? Stiles, thatâs ridiculous. Beacon Hills is a sanctuary for supernaturals. We allow people to use their magic. I was just trying to be your friend.â Stiles breath hitched. âMy friend?â

[Image descriptions in order: a twitter thread by
@AlexandraErin "Alexandra Erin" which says "The Shirley Exception is a bit of mental sleight of hand that allows people to support a policy they profess to disagree with. It's called the Shirley Exception because... well, I mean, *surely* there must be exceptions, right?
"Let's imagine that in response to suspicions about overbroad use of service animal rules, a city somewhere decides to just swing the pendulum 100% in the other direction. Restaurants, public accommodations, etc., no longer have to recognize any service animals.
"And in the aftermath of the change, existing rules about where animals may and may not go apply full force.]
["A lot of people would back the change because Obviously Some People Take Advantage. (Positing that someone, somewhere is taking advantage is a great way to get the masses on your side in our politics, sadly.)
"Now if you point out the existence of a blind person or an epileptic person who has a service dog for everyday navigation of life or for life-saving purposes, the Good People who just don't want anyone to take advantage will tell you:
"No one's talking about legitimate cases."
"And if you point out that the rule that they're backing would affect what they call "legitimate cases", the response will be:
"But surely there will be an exception."]
["If you back up an anti-abortion activist to the point where they actually have to grapple with a case where the parent would 100% die delivering a 100% non- viable fetus, you'll get the same answers:
"No one is talking about those cases." and "But surely there will be exceptions."
"All of those studies of people in Trump Country USA who were shocked, shocked, that the kind man next door who is a good father and a great neighbor and a real part of the community was dragged away by ICE?
They all thought that surely he'd be an exception.]
["If you point out that the laws/policies they're talking about *don't* offer such exceptions and in some cases explicitly forbid them, if you say "So let's put those exceptions in writing."... well, then you're back to Surely People Will Take Advantage.
"See, the people who are sure that Surely There Will Be Exceptions are very comfortable with the idea of justice being decided on a case-by-case basis. They've always had teachers, bosses, bureaucrats, even traffic cops giving them some slack for reasons of compassion and logic.]
["I mean, if Officer Smalltown von Cul-De- Sac could give them a warning when they were caught with recreational amounts of pot as kids because it was harmless and they Had Futures, then Surely there must be similar exceptions for everyone?
"That post about "I never thought the leopards would eat my face, sobbed woman who voted for Face-Eating Leopards Party" is very true, and it goes farther than personal immunity to a very generalized and broad Just World Fallacy.
"Surely, they think, surely the leopards will know to only eat the *right* faces, the faces that need eating, and leave alone all the faces that don't deserve that.]
["But if we try to lay out rules to protect faces from being eaten by leopards, people will take advantage. Best to keep it simple and count on decency and reason to rule the day.
"So moderate conservatives, what we might call "everyday conservatives", the ones who don't wear MAGA hats or tea party costumes and think that Mr. Trump fella should maybe stay off of Twitter, they will vote for candidates and policies that they don't actually agree with...
"...because in their mind the exact law being prescribed is just a tool in the chest, an option on the table, which they expect to be wielded fairly and judiciously. Surely no one would do anything so unreasonable as actually enforcing it as written! Not when that would be bad!]
["And then they are confused, shocked, and even insulted when people hold them accountable for their support of the monstrous policy.
"I didn't vote for leopards to eat *your* face! I just thought we needed some face-eating leopards generally. Surely you can't blame me for that!"
"The old "Defense of Marriage" laws are another textbook example of this.
Many of them included language that expressly forbade giving similar benefits (like hospital visitation) to same-sex relationships.]
["Yet the people who voted for them, in many cases, wanted it to be known that No One Is Talking About Stopping You From Visiting Your Loved One In The Hospital. And Surely There Will Be An Exception.
"The Shirley Exception is how people who are only mundanely monstrous, moderately monstrous, wind up supporting policies that are completely monstrous.
And when they do, they always want credit for their good intentions towards those they see as deserving, not the outcomes.]
["I'm describing a phenomenon here and I don't have a solution to its existence. While convincing people that laws that don't specify exceptions functionally *don't have them* might work sometimes on (ironically) a case-by-case basis, what is really needed is a broader shift.
"People need to get used to thinking about the harm policies will do as a real part of the policy, not a hypothetical that Reasonable People of Good Will Can Surely Work Around.
"Maybe the tack of saying, "If it was your life on the line, wouldn't you want that to be in writing?" would work. I don't know. Like I said, I don't have a solution here. This is just a thing that happens."]

if cigarettes after sex had existed in the 90s, mattheo riddle would have listened to them 24/7
you cannot tell me that this isnât his vibe.
his favorite songs would be:
pistol â itâs his favorite song by them in general, but itâs also his go-to breakup song. sure, he's had lots of flings, but after his first real love, this song is on repeat 24/7. "iâll waste my time / 'til you lift me off the floor and love me again." mattheo riddle clings. he doesn't know how to move on. this song perfectly captures his desperate need for validation and affection, even though he pretends he doesnât care.
each time you fall in love â one thing that mattheo is good at, is shutting people out. this song speaks to disillusionment in love, something mattheo would struggle with as someone who yearns for connection yet fears abandonment. the lines âeach time you fall in love / it's clearly not enoughâ and "all I wanna know is if you love her / how come you never give in?" feels like his inner monologue whenever he pushes someone away or spirals into self-doubt.
nothingâs gonna hurt you baby â 100% resonates with mattheo because, deep down, he's desperate to find someone who truly sees himâbeyond his fatherâs shadow, beyond his walls. "nothing's gonna hurt you, baby, as long as you're with me" âthe kind of promise he wishes someone had made to him during his lonely childhood, and one he secretly wishes he could make to someone he loves.
apocalypse â i don't know about you guys, but in my head at least, mattheo is a hopeless romantic at heart. he may act like he doesn't need anyone but, this song? it makes him feel like he's dancing with his lover in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, unafraid of death as long as he's wrapped in their arms. buuut that sounds cheesy which is why he'd never tell anyone. âwhen you're all alone / i'll reach for you / when you're feelin' low / i'll be there too.â oh, how he wishes someone would say those words to him
sweet â "it's so sweet, knowing that you love me / though we don't need to say it to each other" â yeah, lets be real. words of affirmation is not mattheo's love language, at least not at first. the words, "i love you," scare him. he's got a hesitancy to vocalize things, relying on gestures, touches, and moments rather than words. this song makes him feel like he doesn't need to be ashamed of that.

The Hard Deck was alive with its usual hum of chatter and laughter, the jukebox belting out an old rock anthem. You leaned back in your chair, nursing a cold beer as you watched Jake and Bradley settle into their usual rhythm.
Jake smirked, his signature cocky grin firmly in place as he tipped his bottle toward Bradley. âFace it, Bradshaw, you just canât handle the pressure. Thatâs why Iâm better at pretty much everything.â
Bradley rolled his eyes, though the twitch of his jaw betrayed his annoyance. âYou keep telling yourself that, Bagman. Last time I checked, you couldnât keep up with me in the airâŚlet alone other places.â
His gaze then shifted to you and he shot you a wink. You hid your smile behind your bottle, enjoying the way their bickering played out like clockwork. It was endearing in its own way, how the two of them always seemed to push each other just to prove who could come out on top.
âAlright, alright,â you interjected, setting your drink down and tilting your head at them. âWhatâs it going to be this time? Another darts match? Arm wrestling in the middle of Pennyâs bar?â
âDonât even think about it boys,â she interjects from behind the bar causing your lips to curve into a smirk.
Jake turned to you with a gleam in his eye, his grin widening. âNah, that would be too easy, sweetheart. Iâm thinking something better. Something that requires real willpower.â
Bradley scoffed, but there was a flicker of curiosity on his face. âWhat are you thinking, Hangman?â
Jake leaned forward, bracing one elbow on the table. âNo Nut November.â
The words hung in the air for a beat before you burst out laughing, nearly spilling your beer. âYouâve got to be kidding me.â
âIâm dead serious.â Jake looked over at Bradley, his eyes glinting with challenge. âThink youâve got the guts to keep it together for a whole month, Bradshaw? Or are you gonna fold like you always do?â
Bradley narrowed his eyes, his lips curving into a slow, confident smile. âYouâre on. But donât come crying to me when you lose after, what, three days?â
âThree days?â Jake repeated mock outrage in his tone. âIâve got steel discipline, Bradshaw. Youâre the one whoâs always got his head in the clouds.â
âOh, this is good,â you said, shaking your head in amusement. You could already tell where this was headed, and it was going to be entertaining, to say the least
âWhatâs the wager?â Bradley asked, his eyes not leaving Jake.
âThe usual,â Jake said with a shrug. âLoser has to do whatever the winner says. No complaints, no excuses.â
Bradley nodded, extending his hand across the table. âDeal.â
They shook on it, their grips firm and their gazes locked in mutual defiance. You snipped your beer, biting back a grin as an idea began to form in your mind.
If they were really going to go through with this, you might as well make it interesting. After all, wasnât it your duty as their partner to keep them on their toes?
âI hope you two are ready,â you said, your voice deceptively sweet as you leaned forward, resting your chin in your hand. âBecause Iâm not about to make this easy for either of you.â
Jake arched a brow, his smirk faltering just slightly. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âOh, youâll see.â
Bradleyâs eyes flicked to yours, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension flashing across his face. But neither of them had the chance to respond before you stood, finishing the last of your drink and setting the bottle down with a soft clink.
âGood luck, boys,â you said, giving them a wink before walking away.
Behind you, you could hear Jake muttering, âWhat the hell does that mean?â
The next evening, the glow of the Hard Deckâs neon lights and the buzz of competitive banter were a distant memory. In their place was the soft hum of music drifting from the living room speaker and the warmth of home-cooked comfort filling the air.
Jake and Bradleyâs off-base apartment had always been a haven of sortsâa space where the three of you could unwind, trading the chaos of your days for shared laughter and easy companionship, and a lot of physicality. Tonight was no different.
You stood in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up and a grin tugging at your lips as you recalled the way Jake and Bradley had shaken on their bet the night before, each so sure of their resolve. It was all in good fun, of course, but watching them try to outlast each other was going to be a source of endless entertainment. Especially if you had anything to say about it.
The smell of garlic and herbs filled the cozy apartment kitchen as you stirred a simmering pot on the stove. Bradley leaned beside you, chopping vegetables with steady precision, while Jake stood at the counter, tossing together a salad. It was a rare quiet evening for the three of you, the kind of domestic tranquility that felt all the more special amidst the chaos of naval schedules.
You glanced at Bradley out of the corner of your eye. He was focused on his task, the rhythmic thwack of the knife against the cutting board filling the space between the three of you.
Setting the spoon aside, you turned toward him, brushing your hand lightly along the small of his back as you reached for the bowl beside him. âThanks for helping out,â you said, your voice casual but laced with a subtle warmth.
âNo problem,â Bradley replied, his tone as calm as ever. He didnât look up from the cutting board, his focus unbroken.
Undeterred, you let your fingers linger a moment longer than necessary before pulling away, casually brushing against his forearm as you leaned over to grab a kitchen towel. Still no reactionâthough you noticed the slightest twitch at the corner of his mouth.
From across the kitchen, Jake chuckled softly. You looked over your shoulder to find him watching with a smug grin, one eyebrow raised as if to say, âReally? Is that all youâve got?â
Game on.
Turning back to Bradley, you stepped closer, reaching for the bowl of chopped veggies just as he finished.Â
âLet me get that,â you said, letting your fingers trail along his wrist as you took the bowl from him. This time, there was the faintest flicker of something in his expression, but he quickly masked it, his lips curving into an almost imperceptible smirk.
âThanks,â you said sweetly, placing the bowl on the counter and brushing past Jake on your way to the fridge.
You could feel his eyes on you, but he didnât say a word, his hands continuing to toss the salad with deliberate nonchalance. Smiling to yourself, you opened the fridge and retrieved a bottle of wine, taking your time as you returned to the counter.
Jake didnât react when you sidled up beside him, leaning slightly against his arm as you reached for a corkscrew. But when your fingers brushed his wristâlingering just long enough to feel the warmth of his skinâhis hands faltered, sending a stray piece of lettuce tumbling onto the floor.
âOops,â you murmured, hiding your grin as you grabbed the corkscrew and stepped back. You almost painfully slow, bent down to pick up the lettuce, making sure the skirt you were wearing slid up giving Jake just the tiniest glimpse of the frilly lace of your underwear peeking out at him.
Jake shot you a look, his smirk slipping for a fraction of a second before he composed himself.Â
âCareful there, darlinâ,â he said, his voice smooth but with a slight edge as his hand moved to your hip.
From the corner of your eye, you caught Bradley glancing over, his smirk now firmly in place. âWhatâs wrong, Seresin? Youâre not getting distracted, are you?â
Jakeâs jaw tightened just enough for you to notice, and you bit back a laugh, turning your attention back to the wine.Â
âOh, donât tease him, Bradshaw,â you said innocently, pouring three glasses with careful precision. âIâm sure heâs fine.â
Jakeâs eyes narrowed ever so slightly, but he said nothing, instead focusing intently on his salad as if it were the most important task in the world.
You smiled to yourself, setting the glasses on the counter. This was going to be even more fun than you thought.
Dinner was ready not long after, and the three of you settled at the small dining table tucked against the window. The kitchen lights cast a soft glow over the scene, the faint hum of music still playing in the background. Plates were filled with the fruits of your collective labor: roasted chicken, sautĂŠed vegetables, and a fresh salad that Jake had insisted was ârestaurant-quality.â
You took the first bite, savoring the flavors as they hit your tongue. But instead of keeping the reaction to yourself, you let out a quiet, almost breathy moan, closing your eyes as though the simple taste of the meal was enough to send you to heaven.
When you opened your eyes, you caught both Jake and Bradley staring, their forks paused midair. Their gazes flicked to each other in a brief, wordless exchange before they simultaneously looked down at their plates, the muscles in their jaws tensing as they focused a little too intently on their food.
Suppressing a grin, you stabbed another piece of chicken with your fork, dragging it slowly through the sauce before taking another bite, this time pulling the utensil from your lips with an exaggerated slowness. You made sure the movement was subtle enough to seem naturalâjust enough to plant the idea without making it obvious.
The effect was immediate. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Jake shift in his seat, adjusting his posture in a way that suggested he was trying to ignore you. Across from him, Bradley chewed with deliberate focus, his expression unreadable except for the faint tightness in his jaw.
âEverything okay?â you asked innocently, looking between the two of them.
âFine,â Jake said quickly, his tone light but clipped. He took a long drink of water, his eyes trained firmly on his plate as if it held the answers to all of lifeâs mysteries.
âYeah, fine,â Bradley echoed, though his voice carried a hint of strain as he reached for the salad bowl, pretending to busy himself with serving more.
You leaned back in your chair, letting the silence settle for a moment before leaning forward again, your fingers brushing against the edge of your fork. There was a bit of sauce clinging to the tip, and instead of reaching for a napkin, you raised the utensil to your lips, your tongue darting out to catch the stray droplet.
It wasnât dramaticâbarely more than a flickâbut the tension in the room crackled like static electricity. Jakeâs fork clattered against his plate, and Bradley muttered something under his breath, though neither of them said anything directly.
Satisfied, you straightened in your chair and continued eating, keeping your movements deliberately slow and casual. You were playing the long game, after all, and the night was still young.
The evening stretched on, the kind of Saturday night that carried the promise of an easygoing, relaxed vibe. But the air between the three of you had changed. Every glance, every subtle movement felt charged, as if all the teasing from dinner was quietly simmering beneath the surface, waiting for something to tip it over the edge.
As the game time drew near, you decided to take a break, excusing yourself with a casual, âIâll be right back. Gonna get comfy for the game.â
Jake barely looked up, his attention already focused on the TV screen as he pulled up the Longhorns' game schedule. Bradley nodded absently, taking another sip of his beer.
You made your way toward Jakeâs bedroom. His closet door creaked open, and you moved quickly, your fingers brushing past the shirts hanging neatly in a row until you found itâthe burnt orange jersey. You had no intention of wearing it the traditional way, though.
Next, you turned your attention to the bottom drawer of Jakeâs dresser. The one that, over time, had become a place for a few of your thingsâyour stuff from nights spent at their place, the clothes you didnât mind leaving behind. You sifted through the familiar pile, your fingers grazing the fabric until you found what you were looking for. The lacy black thong with the satin bow on the back, a gift from Bradley on your birthday last year.
A smile tugged at your lips as you stripped out of your clothes, quickly slipping into the thong and then pulling the jersey over your head. The fabric settled comfortably against your skin, the oversized fit doing little to hide the outline of what you were really wearing underneath.
When you emerged from the bedroom, your eyes met the living room where the guys were settling in. Jake was already lounging on the couch, the TV lighting up his face as he focused on pulling up the game. Bradley was standing near the fridge, mid-drink when he saw you. His hand froze, the bottle of beer almost slipping from his grip. His eyes widened, his throat bobbing as he took in the sight of you in nothing but the jersey.
Jakeâs gaze flickered over to you, eyes widening for just a moment before he cleared his throat, his focus shifting back to the screen as though it was the most important thing in the world. But you could see the slight tension in his shoulders, the way his fingers tightened against the remote as if it were somehow anchoring him.
Bradley, on the other hand, had a harder time hiding it. His eyes followed you across the room, the surprise quickly turning into something unreadable, but not before his lips parted as though he might say somethingâuntil he caught himself. Instead, he looked down at his beer, taking a long swig to steady himself.
You smirked, casually flopping down on the couch beside Jake, making sure to let the fabric of the jersey shift just enough to give him a better view of what you were wearingâor, more accurately, not wearing underneath.
You knew exactly what you were doing.
Jakeâs hand settled on your thigh, warm and heavy, sending a shiver through you that had nothing to do with the cool air from the open window. You smiled, resting your head against his shoulder, and wrapped your arms around his arm for good measure, leaning in close to him.
As you shifted your position, tilting your knees slightly, you felt the jersey ride up a bit higher, just enough for the lacy black thong to peek out from beneath the fabric. It was a calculated move, knowing full well that Bradley would notice.
Sure enough, when he finally settled back onto the couch on the other side of you, his gaze flickered down. His hand, perhaps on autopilot, reached out, brushing against your nearly bare skin, and you couldnât help the smirk that tugged at your lips. Bradleyâs fingers squeezed the flesh there, just a little too long, a little too possessively, before he quickly pulled his hand away, his eyes darting up to meet yours.
You tilted your head back into Jakeâs side, letting out a soft, content sigh, and allowed yourself to sink into his warmth. The move was deliberate, a subtle taunt that made Bradleyâs jaw clench and his nostrils flare. He tried to look away, but he couldnât quite keep his eyes off you, and you reveled in the power you held over the two men tonight.
âEnjoying the game?â Jake asked, his voice low, as if he didnât want to break the spell youâd cast. His fingers tightened on your thigh, pressing just enough to remind you of his presence.
âMmm,â you replied, letting the sound linger in the air, your breath warm against his neck.
Jake leaned in closer, his lips brushing your temple as he whispered, âYou know, youâre really playing a dangerous game, donât you think?â
You looked up at him, your expression innocent, the tease in your eyes impossible to hide. âMaybe,â you replied coyly, âbut I think itâs one youâll both enjoy losing.â
The game continued, but the real action was unfolding right in front of Jake and Bradley. You could feel their eyes on youâthe weight of their attention was undeniable. Jakeâs hand had barely moved from your thigh, and Bradleyâs fingers lingered there, giving you little indication that he had any intention of stopping. They were both wound tight, and you were enjoying every minute of it.
As the Longhorns scored a touchdown, the roar from the crowd on the TV mixed with your own excited gasp. Without thinking, you jumped to your feet, the burst of energy sending you bouncing up and down in celebration. You felt the jersey ride up as you raised your arms, the fabric lifting just enough to expose the small, barely-there thong underneath.
Your ass swayed with each bounce, the thong almost completely exposed, offering a perfect view of your bare skin to both men. The sensation of their eyes locked on you was intoxicating, but you didnât stop. You made sure every movement was deliberate, a tease designed to keep them both hooked.
Finally, you turned around, your back to them now. The jersey hung just low enough to cover your front but did nothing to hide the thong from their view. You felt their stares burning into you, the tension between the three of you palpable in the air.
With a grin, you smirked over your shoulder, catching their eyes before saying, âMan, I love football.â
Jake shifted uncomfortably, his hand now tight around the beer bottle in his lap, but he didnât say anything. Bradley, on the other hand, couldnât hide his reaction. His jaw clenched, his lips pressing together in frustration. His hand moved to the front of his jeans, adjusting himself. It was as if he couldnât stop himself, like every instinct he had was telling him to do something more.
The tension in the room was unbearable, and you could practically feel the moment when Bradleyâs restraint finally snapped. As you smirked over your shoulder, still reveling in the heat of their gazes, you noticed the way his hands tightened into fists at his sides. His jaw was locked, his body rigid as he triedâunsuccessfullyâto stay composed.
Then, without warning, he shot up from the couch. âScrew this,â he muttered under his breath, his voice low and rough, filled with frustration.
Before you could even react, he was on you. One moment, you were standing in front of him, and the next, he had you hoisted effortlessly over his shoulder. You gasped in surprise, but the only response from him was a determined growl.
You kicked your legs slightly, but it was no use. Bradley had you completely at his mercy, carrying you down the hallway toward his room with a purposeful stride.
Jake called out from the living room, his voice laced with disbelief. âBradshawâwhat the hell are you doing?â
But Bradley didnât even look back, his focus solely on you as he carried you down the hall, ignoring whatever punishment Jake might throw at him. The bet? The consequences? They didnât matter in that moment. All that mattered was the desire that had been building up in him, the need to finally act on everything heâd been holding back.
When he reached the door to his room, he kicked it open with one swift motion, stepping inside and slamming it shut behind him. As soon as it was closed, he dropped you onto the bed, his eyes dark with intensity.
âYouâve been teasing us all night,â he growled, voice thick with desire. âI couldnât take it anymore.â
You smirked, already knowing that you had pushed him too far. But that didnât stop you from playing along, feeling the thrill of victory in the way youâd slowly unraveled him.
Bradley didnât care about the bet anymore. All he cared about was you, and right now, that was enough.
As Bradley moved over you, his hands working the black thong off of your body with an urgency that matched the heat in his eyes, you felt a sudden shift in the atmosphere. The door swung open with a creak, and there, standing in the doorway, was Jake. His smirk was wide, his eyes gleaming with that same cocky confidence, but there was a sharpness to it nowâa flicker of something darker beneath the surface.
He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, clearly enjoying the scene unfolding before him. His eyes shifted between you and Bradley, taking in the sight of the thong being discarded carelessly to the side. The silence that followed was thick with tension, an unspoken challenge hanging in the air.
Bradleyâs fingers paused for a moment, as if sensing Jakeâs presence, but his focus quickly returned to you. The momentary distraction was all Jake needed. Without breaking his smirk, Jake pushed off the doorframe and strode confidently across the room.
âBradley, step back, baby,â Jakeâs voice was low, filled with a knowing taunt. He sat on the edge of the bed, eyes still on you as he placed a hand on your waist, guiding you down across his lap.
You gasped, a mix of surprise and excitement flooding through you as you found yourself positioned across his strong legs. Your heart raced, but the smirk never left your face.
âYouâve been a naughty girl, havenât you?â Jakeâs voice was suddenly darker, his tone shifting as he ran a finger down your spine. âYou think you can tease us both, and get away with it?â He gave you a playful, but firm tap on the back of your thigh, the sting shocking you.
He leaned forward slightly, pressing his lips to your ear. âWell, itâs time somebody put you in your place.â
Bradley watched, still breathing heavily as he stood at the foot of the bed, his hands flexing with restrained hunger. The game had changed entirely. You had crossed a line, and now, both men knew it was their turn to take control.
Jakeâs grip tightened around your waist, pulling you closer as he positioned you more firmly across his lap. He traced a finger across the curve of your backside, his voice rough as he said, âThis isnât over, sweetheart. Not by a long shot.â
The first smack comes without warning, a startled cry leaving your lips as you feel the sting of Jakeâs hand.
âThatâs one. Youâve got nine more. Think you can handle it?â
You nodd, but Jake just makes a tsk tsk tsk noise with his mouth before delivering another smack to the same spot.
âUse your words. Weâre back to one. I can do this all night.â
âYes. Yes, I can handle it.â
You hear Jake let out a low chuckle before saying, âDamn right you can, baby.â
The final smack echoed through the room, sharper than the rest, and you couldn't suppress the gasp that left your lips. A wave of heat rushed through you, a mix of sting and longing building in your body. Tears prickled at the corners of your eyes, the tension of the moment overwhelming.
Jakeâs hand lingered, resting gently on your sore skin, the warmth of his palm contrasting with the burn of the smacks. For a brief moment, there was silence. You could feel the steady rise and fall of his chest, and the weight of his touch seemed to calm you, despite the ache.
"Good girl," he murmured, his voice softer now, but still full of command. His hand moved slowly, rubbing circles into your tender skin, soothing the burn as he spoke. "You did so well for me."
You could hear the pride in his voice, and feel the shift in his demeanor as he leaned down to kiss the top of your head. It was a small, almost gentle gesture, but it spoke volumes in the context of everything that had just transpired.
His fingers traced along your back now, his touch lighter, almost tender. "I know you can take it," he continued, his tone warm. "Youâve been so good for us tonight."
The praise was enough to stir something inside youâsomething that made the lingering sting worth it. He could still dominate you, but in this moment, you were his, and he took care of you in a way that felt like both power and care.
âNow, hereâs whatâs going to happen next, sweetheart,â Jake says. âBradley here is going to lay on his bed, and youâre going to ride him, reverse cowgirl so he can watch that pretty ass bounce as your ride him. And so I can watch your perfect tits bounce.â You involuntarily squeeze your thighs together at his words. âAnd Iâm going to stand at the end of the bed and I want your eyes on me the whole time. You understand?â
âYes.â
âGood girl,â Jake says before helping you up off his lap.
The moment you lift yourself off Jakeâs lap, thereâs a quiet shift in the room. The tension in the room grows as you crawl up the bed, hovering over Bradley, whoâs now lying back on the bed, his eyes dark with hunger but also something elseâsoftness, a trace of tenderness mixed with the primal need.
As you settle above him, the weight of your body supported by your hands on either side of his chest, Bradleyâs hands reach up to pull you down. He doesnât waste a second, his lips finding yours with an intensity that makes your heart race. The kiss is almost electric, his lips hungry, but gentle enough to make you melt against him. The urgency fades slightly, and you find yourself losing a bit of control as you sink into the warmth of his embrace. His hand moves to the back of your neck, holding you close as if he doesnât want to let you go.
The kiss deepens, and for a moment, everything else falls away. It's just the two of you, your bodies pressing together, the soft sound of your breathing filling the space between you. You feel his heartbeat against yours, steady and warm, grounding you in this moment. Itâs different with Bradleyâthereâs a tenderness there, something that contrasts with the more commanding side Jake showed earlier.
When you pull away, your lips still tingling, you can see the quiet satisfaction in Bradleyâs eyes. His hands slip down your sides, tracing the outline of your body as if committing every inch of you to memory.
âYouâre incredible,â he whispers, his voice rough with desire, but thereâs a softness to it, a reverence that makes your chest tighten.
You smile, leaning in to kiss him again, but this time itâs slower, more deliberate, and you can feel the shift between youâless about the tease, less about the game, and more about the connection.
You shift, moving so that your back is now towards Bradley, and your gaze finds Jakeâs. The electricity between you three is palpable, the air thick with the kind of unspoken connection that runs deep. You can feel Bradleyâs hands on your waist, steadying you, but itâs Jakeâs eyes that hold your attention nowâdark, intent, but filled with something else. Thereâs a depth in his gaze, a silent understanding, a promise that whatever happens next, itâs about the three of you as one.
You reach down, tugging the burnt orange jersey off, letting it fall to the floor in a fluid motion, leaving yourself exposed before them. The vulnerability stirs something within youâboth exhilarating and grounding at once. With each passing second, the trust between you grows stronger, the knowledge that you're not just being seen, but truly understood, is almost overwhelming.
You pause, locking eyes with Jake, and the tension rises again. His presence is commanding, but it's the gentle weight of his gaze that gives you the confidence to continue. Slowly, you begin to lower yourself, the movement calculated and deliberate, not just for them, but for yourself.Â
Bradleyâs hands guide you, steadying you as you move closer to him. Your eyes flutter close as you feel the stretch of Bradley as you sink further and further onto him.
âUh uh. Eyes on me, baby.â Jake reminds you.
You nod and open your eyes, yours immediately find Jakeâs green ones. Theyâre darker than normal, laced with desire and need.
âYouâre perfect,â Bradley whispers, his voice thick with emotion. You can feel the weight of his words, not just in his tone, but in how his hands trace over your skin, grounding you in this moment.
You stay locked on Jakeâs gaze, the intensity of his eyes grounding you in the moment. The air between you two feels thick, like a promise thatâs been quietly building, waiting to be fulfilled. His face softens, but thereâs a quiet strength in it that makes your heart race.Â
Bradleyâs hands move to your waist, his touch steady and sure. He guides you gently, helping you find your rhythm as your body begins to move, slow and deliberate. His touch is a contrast to Jakeâs silent commandâBradleyâs touch is soft, like a grounding force, holding you steady.
You feel the heat rising, your chest tightening as the tension builds. But through it all, Jakeâs eyes never leave yours. Thereâs something magnetic about the way he watches, as though heâs seeing youâevery part of youâin a way that makes you feel both vulnerable and safe, all at once. His jaw tightens as he shifts, the intensity in his gaze never faltering.
With every small movement, every shift of your body, you feel the pressure building. Your breaths come quicker, your heart racing as Bradleyâs hands guide you.
âS-shit,â you hear Bradley mutter from beneath you, causing you to clench around him.
Bradleyâs hands move to your back, his fingers tracing slow, deliberate patterns against your skin. His touch is tender, guiding you closer, helping you reach a place of intensity that feels almost overwhelming.
And then, it comesâlike a wave crashing over you. You can feel the pressure building, the world narrowing down to the feeling of Bradleyâs hands on your skin, his body beneath you, and Jakeâs steady gaze pulling you deeper. Every part of you is alive, connected, and entwined in a way youâve never experienced before.
Your breath catches as the moment hits, your body trembling as you reach the peak. Your eyes never leave Jakeâs, and for a brief moment, everything else fades away. Thereâs nothing but the bond between the three of youâthe love, the trust, the unspoken understanding that this is where youâre meant to be.Â
âFuck, fuck, fuck. Shit.â Bradley grunts as you feel ropes of his seed release into you.
You collapse on the bed against Bradley, your body spent and trembling, Jakeâs smile softens, a quiet satisfaction in his eyes.
âYouâre incredible,â Bradley whispers, pulling you into him, his hands still on your back as he kisses the top of your head. His voice is filled with a tenderness.
âYouâre perfect,â Jake adds softly, his voice low and comforting.
Bradley shifts beside you, his fingers brushing against your skin as he looks over at Jake. Thereâs a quiet moment between them, an unspoken understanding passing between the two. With a soft chuckle, Bradley pushes himself up from the bed, his gaze lingering on you for a second longer before he speaks.
âIâm gonna head to the bathroom. Jake, you wanna take care of her while Iâm gone?â he asks, the affection in his voice evident.
Jakeâs response is immediate, his eyes softening as he watches you. âOf course,â he says, his voice low but filled with warmth.
As Bradley moves to the bathroom, Jake crawls onto the bed beside you, a quiet smile tugging at his lips. His presence is a steady, comforting weight as he shifts closer, opening his arms for you. You donât hesitate, scooting over to him, seeking the comfort of his embrace.
You curl into him, your body instinctively leaning into his warmth as your head rests against his chest. The steady beat of his heart is a calming rhythm beneath your ear, and you let out a soft sigh of contentment, the tension of the last few minutes slowly ebbing away.
Jake wraps his arms around you, pulling you in closer, his hand gently stroking your hair as he settles against the pillows. His touch is soothing, almost protective, and it fills you with a sense of security that you canât quite put into words.
âYou did so well,â Jake murmurs, his voice soft and tender. He presses a gentle kiss to the top of your head, his fingers tracing light patterns on your back. âYouâre incredible, you know that?â
You smile against his chest, the words washing over you like a balm. You can feel the warmth of his body, the affection in every movement, and itâs all you need right now. The bond between the three of you feels unspoken but undeniable, and in this moment, everything feels right.
As you settle more comfortably against Jake, his arms holding you close, you allow yourself to fully relax, your body melting into his embrace. The soft sound of Bradleyâs footsteps in the bathroom fades into the background as you lose yourself in the warmth of Jakeâs care.
The world outside this room doesnât matter right now. Thereâs only the three of you, your trust, and the quiet love that lingers in the space between. And for the moment, thatâs all you need.
As the warmth of Jakeâs embrace settles around you, the exhaustion from the long day and the intensity of everything thatâs happened begin to catch up with you. Your body feels heavy, your mind slowly unwinding as the last threads of wakefulness start to slip away. Youâre so close to falling asleep, the soothing rhythm of Jakeâs heartbeat lulling you deeper into comfort.
But then, thereâs a soft rustle of movement. You feel the bed shift slightly, and soon, Bradley is back. Heâs holding a warm washcloth, the scent of soap and something faintly floral filling the air as he gently presses it against your skin. The touch is tender, careful, as he begins to clean you up, his fingers moving gently over you.
âLet me know if Iâm being too rough,â Bradley murmurs softly, his voice a whisper in the quiet room, his gaze focused on his task. Thereâs no rush in his movements, only a quiet affection, as he takes care of you.
Once he finishes, he places the cloth aside, his hand lingering for just a moment before he pulls back. You feel the bed dip as he moves around, and then, in the next moment, heâs crawling onto the bed beside you. His arms slip around your waist from behind, pulling you into him, and you easily melt back into his embrace, feeling the warmth of his body against your back.
Youâre trapped now, but it doesnât feel like a prison. Bradleyâs strong chest presses against your back, his arms holding you securely while Jake, still on the other side of you, continues to hold you close. The two of them surround you, their presence comforting, and you canât help but feel safe in their arms.
âComfy?â Bradley murmurs against your ear, his breath warm against your skin.
You nod slightly, a soft smile tugging at your lips. âWouldnât want to fall asleep any other way.â
The steady sound of their breathing, the warmth of their bodies, and the quiet intimacy of the moment all wash over you. You can feel yourself drifting, your body sinking into the bed, the pull of sleep becoming harder to resist.
Just as your mind starts to fade, you hear Jakeâs voice, light and teasing, cutting through the soft lull of the room.
âSo, Bradshaw,â Jake begins, his tone dripping with playful mockery. âNot even twenty-four hours, huh?â
Bradley chuckles softly behind you, his fingers idly tracing circles on your waist as he gives a quiet, amused grunt. âYeah, yeah. Shut up. I donât need to prove anything to you.â
Jake snorts, a low, amused laugh slipping from his lips. âRight, but itâs nice to know youâre still a little bit predictable.â
You can hear the affection in Jakeâs voice, his teasing not mean-spirited but filled with that familiar bond that the three of you share. As the sound of their laughter and gentle banter continues, the exhaustion pulls you under, and you finally surrender to sleep, the two menâs arms around you the last thing on your mind as you drift away.

â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘
Itâs supposed to be a brilliant night. A massive one, if youâre being honest.
Jungkookâs âGoldenâ listening party is the talk of the industry, the kind of event people beg, steal, or sell their left kidney to get into. And you? Youâre on the guest list. Not because youâre a big deal or anything, but because youâre simply his girlfriend.
That fact alone should have you over the moon. You should be buzzing to see him in his element, to be by his side, to celebrate the music heâs poured his heart into.
But youâre not.
Youâre standing in front of your mirror, staring at your reflection, wondering for the hundredth time why on earth he wants you there, even if it should be obvious to you.Â
Youâve gone all out tonight, found the nicest dress you could afford, done your makeup in a way that says âeffortlessâ even though itâs taken you an hour. Your hairâs as good as itâs going to get, and yet, itâs still not enough.
You donât look like the sort of person who belongs in his world.
Youâve seen the women who swarm around Jungkook, those effortlessly stunning types with legs for days, glossy hair, and flawless skin. The kind of women who donât just walk into rooms; they fucking float. Who can chat with celebrities like itâs no big deal, who wouldnât hesitate before striding into this party like they own the place.
You on the other hand? Youâre not one of those.Â
Standing here, fidgeting with the hem of your dress, stomach flipping at the thought of walking into that room. You feel like an imposter, like any minute someoneâs going to clock that you donât belong and politely, or not so politely, ask you to leave.
But your phone buzzes, ripping you momentarily out of your thoughts.Â
Jungkook.
Canât wait to see you, heâs texted, and thereâs a little heart emoji tagged on at the end.
Your chest aches. You know he means it, heâs been so excited about this night, about sharing it with you. But thereâs a voice in your head that just wonât shut up, no matter how hard you try.
Are you sure he really wants you here? Or is he just being polite, roping you in because heâs nice like that?
You close your eyes and take a deep breath. You canât do this to him. Youâll go inside. Youâll smile. Youâll fake it if you have to. For him.
And indeed, the party is insane.
People are everywhere, dressed to the nines, dripping in designer everything. The musicâs loud, the lights are low, and you swear you can feel the buzz in the air even though you havenât had a sip of alcohol yet.Â
Itâs exciting, in theory. In practice, itâs overwhelming as hell.
You spot Jungkook right away, standing in the middle of a crowd thatâs clearly there for him. He looks incredible, gold jacket, perfect hair, the works. Heâs laughing at something someoneâs said, his whole face lighting up in that way that makes your heart pump to its limit, and for a second, you just stare.
This is him. Your boyfriend. The man who texts you goodnight even after a 16-hour day, who steals chips off your plate, who sings in the shower when he thinks youâre not listening.
But this version of him? This superstar surrounded by models and influencers?
You donât know how you fit into that picture, even after all these months.Â
You linger by the door for longer than you should, trying to work out where to go, what to do. You feel out of place already, and youâve barely even moved.
Itâs like he can sense you, though, because suddenly, his eyes find yours from across the room. His face breaks into a smile, a proper, bright one thatâs hopefully only reserved for you, and he excuses himself, weaving through the crowd to get to you, greeting everyone else in passing.Â
âHey,â he kisses you briefly, breathless but happy, taking your hand like heâs been waiting all night to see you. âYou look amazing.â
You try to smile. âThanks.â
He frowns a little, clearly picking up on your nerves. âYou alright?â
âYeah,â you lie.
He doesnât look convinced, but before he can press, someone calls his name. He glances over his shoulder, then back at you, torn. âIâll be quick,â he promises, squeezing your hand before disappearing again.
And just like that, youâre alone.
Time crawls. Or it just feels like it does.
You end up at the bar with a drink you donât even want, keeping your head down like youâre hoping to blend into the wallpaper. Itâs easier than pretending youâre confident, especially when everyone else here seems like they were born for this kind of thing.
Every time you look up, you spot Jungkook in the middle of another group, flashing that smile of his like heâs got the whole room wrapped around his finger. Which, to be fair, he does.
Thereâs a group of women around him now, all stunning in that effortlessly intimidating way. One of them touches his arm, leaning in close as she says something, and he laughs.
Your stomach drops to the floor, hard.
You know itâs stupid. You know Jungkook loves you, that he chose you, but sitting here, watching him shine in a room full of people who seem so much more fitting, itâs hard to believe it.
What are you even doing here?
Youâre halfway through debating whether to leave when Jungkook reappears.
âHey,â his foreheadâs creased in concern. âWhatâs going on? Youâve been hiding.â
You shake your head. âNothing. Just⌠needed a minute.â
âDonât give me that,â he scolds softly, taking your hand. âYouâre upset. Why?â
You hesitate, swallowing hard. âI justâŚâ You glance around, lowering your voice. âI donât think I should be here.â
He blinks. âWhat?â
âLook at this place, Jungkook,â you try to explain, gesturing vaguely at the room. âLook at you. Youâre in your element, and Iâm just⌠me. I donât belong here. I donât belong with you.â
Saying those words feels freeing in a way you havenât expected, but when you finally lock eyes with him, his expression makes your heart crumble.
âYou donât believe that,â he tries, his voice low, like heâs willing you to agree.
âI do,â you admit, tired, desperate. âYou could have anyone in this room. Anyone, Jungkook. Why⌠why me?â
He stares at you for a second, then, before you can even process whatâs happening, he grabs your hand a bit tighter and pulls you right into the middle of the room.
âJungkook, what are youââ
You donât get to finish.
Jungkook cups your face, tilts your chin up, and kisses you.
Itâs not a quick kiss, either. Itâs a kiss that makes people stop and stare. A kiss that says, in no uncertain terms, that youâre his.
When he pulls back, you realise the room has gone quiet, but Jungkook doesnât seem to care. His hands are still on your face, his thumbs brushing your dusted cheeks as he looks at you with his loving boba eyes.
âDoes that answer your question?â
You canât think, let alone speak, so you just nod.
âGood,â he nods right back, his lips twitching into a smile. âBecause I donât want anyone else. I never have, and I never will. Youâre it for me, alright? So stop thinking youâre not enough, because you are. Youâre more than enough.â
Silver lines your lashes, but you manage to laugh, shaky as it is. âYouâre so dramatic.â
âYeah, well,â he shrugs, leaning in to kiss your lips right again, âyou bring it out of me.â
And for the first time all night, you let yourself believe it.
â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘

Imagine this: a wild card that makes everyoneâs hybrid instincts go into overdrive.
Grian perches on Mumboâs shoulders, squawking at anyone who gets too close. He somehow manages to steal something from every player for his nest, despite living on peopleâs shoulders and backs the whole time. He doesnât give the items back once the sessionâs over.
Tango wanting to keep his pyre warm. He starts off just clinging to whoeverâs nearest, but it soon turns into âTango! Too hot!â and heâs absolutely crushed he canât just set everyone on fire. Eventually they get out fire resistance potions so he can make everyone as warm as he wants, because watching him be a sad pathetic cat was no fun.
Jimmy unable to stand being away from his flock. If heâs left alone for as little as one minute he has a breakdown, because his flock is leaving him and they hate him and the world is ending. Him and Grian get along well.
Ren for the most part is normal, but he does require head scratches often. He brings sticks to other players to throw, immediately chasing it and bringing it back. He also tries to eat⌠everything. He chews up so many of his things that the chests end up getting locked. Martyn is tired.
Lizzie immediately gets stuck in a tree and has to be saved. Sheâs already quite a menace, but with her feline instincts turned up sheâs more feral than ever. She knocks things over, digs in peopleâs storages, and hisses at anyone who gets too annoying. She has to be kept away from the giant bird that is Jimmy, unfortunately he becomes a tasty snack in her eyes.
Thereâs thankfully some normal, non hybrid players on the server that can help out. Thereâs also, luckily, hybrids whose instincts donât get in the way too badly.
Scott, an ice elf, just has to make sure he doesnât get too warm or heâll get sick. Pearl occasionally has to be dragged away from light sources, but otherwise sheâs great help. Impulse helps as well, when heâs pulled away from making mischief with the fae that is Gem. Skizz is a saint (literally) and does his best to make everyone happy. This does end in a breakdown for Skizz, because helping people is his job, he needs to make them happy, but even instincts canât stop Impulse from comforting him.
They all end up in a pile at spawn by the end of the session, some players having breakdowns or freaking out when they canât make sure everyone is safe.
âŚAnd Bdubs spent the whole time either asleep or screaming at people. Damn phantom hybrid.

Make A Move (Pt. 5)
footballplayer!Sukuna x fem!reader
genre: slow-burn romance, college au, fluff, angst
warnings: none so far
word: 3.1
(-> Pt. 1) (-> Pt. 2) (-> Pt. 3) (-> Pt. 4) (-> masterlist)
On sunday morning, you woke up early, even though you hadn't been sleeping much. The events of the previous day came back to you one after the other. First, you thought about the game and Sukuna's impressive skills in it.
You reflected on the motorcycle ride with him and how he drove you to the Rainbow Bridge just so you could see the city at night. That must've been one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for you. You turned over on your side in your bed, smiling.
And then you remembered how you almost kissed and how he treated you completely different later at the party than when you were alone. A feeling of embarrassment washed over you again at the thought that everyone present had noticed Sukuna not wanting to kiss you. Not that you were dying to feel his soft lips, probably salty from the sweat - no, that wasn't it. Because even if that were the case, it was more the fact of how and why he rejected you that was bothering you.
But asking him was out of the question. After all, you still had enough pride left to not give him that pleasure. After all, he wasn't obliged to kiss you. You shouldn't let anything show, otherwise he might get the wrong idea. And with that mentality, you went to your first lecture on Monday.
After the lecture, you entered the cafeteria. Today they cooked vegetarian pasta again and it always tasted delicious. You grabbed a plate, had it filled up, and walked over to the where the silverware was. As you were putting down your tray, someone spoke up directly from the side.
"I got your message, by the way."
You weren't startled this time.
"Did you know that people usually greet each other before starting a conversation?" you expressed calmly and Sukuna burst out laughing. You always managed to entertain him.
"Sorry, hi princess."
"Hi." you said quietly, a gloomy feeling at the nickname. "What message?"
"Yuji told me he should wish me 'good luck' from you."
"So?"
"Well, I certainly was lucky, after all you really came. But..." he didn't finish his sentence, obviously waiting for your reaction. Was he really trying to flirt with you again? This man was difficult.
You took your tray and moved towards one of the tables. Of course Sukuna followed you and sat down on the opposite chair. You sighed.
"But what, Sukuna? What do you want?" you asked in annoyance.
"You should give me your number. I couldn't even make sure you got home safe on Saturday." he flashed his shiny white teeth at you.
"Why do you care? I went home with my friends." you said, but not snippy, more in a neutral tone.
"I know that." he simply returned and didn't seem to have anything else to say. He just looked at you.
Seriously? He doesn't mention what happened at all? Well, if he can act like nothing happened, so can you.
"I don't like being watched while eating." you said bluntly and Sukuna couldn't help but smile.
"Why, are your table manners so terrible?" he countered. You puffed.
"Aren't you hungry?" you then asked, whereupon he told you that he had already eaten.
"I saw you and with you the opportunity."
"The opportunity for what?" you then questioned.
"Asking you for your number."
"You have my address already, that should be enough."
You would not let him get any closer to you.
He chuckled and you ate the first forkful of pasta.
"So you don't want to give it to me?" he carried on.
"Obviously not."
"Okay, I'll find a way. Oh, and enjoy your meal." he winked at you. And then he stood up and left the table.
Finally you could eat in peace.
You didn't see him for the next few days, which gave you enough time to concentrate on your studies. It was thursday evening and you had to give in your assignment for neurolinguistics, the due date was today. You quickly finished explaining how the priming effect works, when suddenly Utahime entered your room with the mail in her hand.
"Oh, are you finished for today already?" you asked, referring to her job, to which she nodded.
"But look at this!" she said, astonished, and waved a letter in front of your face.
The letter was addressed to you, but had no sender. Strange.
You opened it and the content was a single sheet of paper with a few lines written on it.
"You're right, your address is enough. If you don't want to give me your number, I'll have to try this way ;)"
Your face immediately heated up, you never thought he would go out of his way like that. But what was he doing that for? What was his ulterior motive?
Utahime saw your shocked face and read the letter. Then she laughed.
"Wow, he's really trying. Have you eaten yet? Should we order something?"
And together, you ended the evening with a juicy pizza.
But on the next day, you found a note in your locker too. You opened the folded paper and it said:
"Meet me under the bleachers"
Oh God, your heart was pounding. Just what was he thinking?
You decided to meet him at the stands to ask him to stop this whole thing. Even though you were really flattered by the attention, it still hurt your ego that he apparently thought he could win you over like that. Was it working? Maybe a little, but he didn't have to know that. And you definitely wouldn't fall for it any further.
When you finally got there, there was no sign of him. You asked the few players practicing on the field about him.
"Sukuna? No, he's not here. As far as I know he has a philosophy class right now."
Philosophy? You didn't even know that was his second subject. But that explained why he was around you so often, because philosophy and linguistics were taught in the same building. But why did he send you here then? Nothing he did made sense and you were slowly getting fed up with this chaos.
You were just on your way back into the building when all of a sudden, you bumped into someone's back on accident. He turned around and to your surprise, it was the menace himself.
"Careful." he laughed lightly. But you were a bit pissed at him right now and just walked past him. He walked after you.
"Hey, where are you going?" he yelled.
"I don't feel like playing your games. Find someone else to annoy." you said without even looking at him.
He grabbed your wrist and brought you to a stop. When you tried to escape his grip, he blocked you with his arm and caged you in.
"Calm down. What's going on with you?" Sukuna exclaimed.
"No, what's going on with you? Why do you leave those notes in my locker, arrange a meeting and then don't come?"
"That's what it is about?" He chuckled. "Now do you see how complicated it is? If I had your number, you would have known when I wrote the message."
You were flabbergasted, was that really his plan behind all this? To show you the need to exchange numbers?
"Or you can just write the time next time!" you spat out.
"Next time? So you like when I leave you letters?" he smirked and upset you with his presumptuous words.
"Don't twist my words..." you pouted and looked to the side. He let you go now, you had calmed down.
"Then what do you say: We have another game next Friday. If we win, I get your number, if we lose... well, you can choose."
"Why do you want my number so badly?" you probed.
"Because I like you. You're fun to be around."
This confession knocked you off balance, but you swallowed your speechlessness. In the end, two could play that game.
"Okay, if you lose, you'll never ask me for my number again." You smiled mischievously and he followed suit, tilting your chin upwards with his big hand before responding.
"It's settled then."
You stayed at Shoko's for the weekend, since you wanted to binge-watch the new season of your series. Utahime didn't like the show and had to work anyway, so it was just the two of you tonight.
After a few episodes, however, it turned into a deep talk session. You told Shoko everything that had happened with Sukuna so far and she reprimanded you for getting into this 'pact'.
"His team will win either way, the only ones who would have a chance against them are the UOT." she explained and you thought about her words.
UOT? Of course! They say their quarterback is on par with Sukuna. They are the biggest rivals!
"Are they gonna play against each other too?" you wondered.
"I think not until the very end of the season. That's the most important game after all."
The end of the season... So in about 8 weeks. But wait a minute...
"How do you even know that?" you stared at Shoko in amazement and she looked up at the ceiling.
"A few of my high school friends are on this team. Utahime knows them too."
"What? Why am I only finding out about this now?" you shifted in your seat, grinning at her. She shrugged.
"I never thought it was important. After all, you haven't been interested in football until now."
You nodded. Then your phone rang. You took it from the coffee table and saw that it was Utahime, but before you could even pick up, she already hung up.
"Who was it?" Shoko interrupted and you told her, but you two didn't think much of it.
You thought that maybe she called you on accident, so you sent her a message asking "are you okay?" and checked her location. She was still at the hotel. A few minutes later, she finally replied and confirmed that everything was indeed alright.
"Okay she just replied, she's fine. But next time we're all together, you two have to tell me more about your mysterious old friends." You waggled your eyebrows and Shoko laughed.
"Yeah, yeah, even if there's not really much to tell."
And then you were back in the stadium, this time, on your campus. It was a home game and the people on the stands were louder than at the last game, but this time you secured yourselves better seats. You were sitting in the front row now!
At the opening, all of the players walked onto the field and turned to the audience. Sukuna waved at the big crowd, his eyes moving from left to right, and finally rested his gaze on you, a small smirk spreading on his face. And then it was kickoff. As always, Sukuna's leading skills ensured a successful first half. It was clear that the team had been a unit for a long time, as well as they complemented each other.
After the first half, there was the usual break and you used it to quickly go use the bathroom. The line was long though, of course you weren't the only one who had to go after such a long time. But luckily, it quickly emptied and after you were done, the break was almost over. While the water was tingling on your hand, you heard a few girls coming in, chattering. You recognized the cheerleaders, one of them was the blonde girl named Manami.
"So, how are things going with Sukuna now?" asked Manami's friend.
At the mention of that name, you became very wary. You felt like you were eavesdropping, but you couldn't turn off your hearing sense after all.
"I think he likes me." Manami said the words dreamily, but you couldn't listen to their conversation any longer, because if you stayed at the sink for too long, you would attract their attention. You dried your hands and then went out the door.
What was their true relationship to each other? She thinks he likes her? What is he doing for her to think that? You had a weird gut feeling on your way back and when your friends noticed, they asked if you were okay. You lied to them and, thank goodness, that feeling disappeared as soon as the second half of the game started again.
And as Shoko predicted, your team won. The others weren't bad by any means, but Sukuna isn't feared in the world of football for nothing. He once again secured a great victory and after the game ended, his teammates all ran towards him to celebrate.
They picked him up and carried him to the front of the stands while you and the others clapped for their success. Many shouted his name, others shouted for the other players, but his grinning, smug look was only on you.
His comrades let him down and the crowd slowly started to leave the stands as Sukuna continued to keep you under his spell. He stepped on a bench in front of it, leaned his elbow on the railing of ââthe stands and pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket. He pressed it between his fingers proudly and held it in front of his slightly tilted face, a mischievous smile on it, so that you could make out the numbers on the note.
You narrowed your eyes in an attempt to see more clearly and as the digits became visible, you recognized them as your phone number.
How did he-
You were about to ask him that, but Aoi intervened, jumping onto the bench and putting his arm over Sukuna's shoulder, happily dragging him into the locker room.
When you finally came down the stairs, you decided to wait for Sukuna outside. Your friends were talking about something you didn't pay attention to.
Then the door opened and you walked towards Sukuna expectantly, but he was stopped by Manami at that moment. You saw her putting her arm around his and how she walked to the parking lot with him. That made you abandon the whole plan and you went back home with your girls.
When you got there, you got a message from an unknown number.
unknown number: not even curious how I got your number?
That was definitely Sukuna. Your mood immediately worsened. You just couldn't figure him out. You threw your phone on the bed and made yourself something to eat. Cooking should calm you down, so you put on some music and started chopping. It took half an hour before you got the motivation to text him back.
you: aren't you out with the cheerleader right now?
You sent the message and threw your phone away from you again. Why had you been so direct? You were about to take your phone to delete the message, but Sukuna had already replied.
unknown number: oh you're curious about something else I see. u stalking me? ;)
you: no, I just saw you two together after the game. hope you had fun.
unknown number: yea sure had.
you: good for you.
Somehow the message came across as more bitter than you anticipated, and Sukuna also noticed the harsh tone.
unknown number: wait, you weren't seriously thinking I was after you, were you?
you: of course not? I was being genuine.
You were not. He typed.
unknown number: well then, that's good.
And then you left him on read. Asshole.
The whole weekend was spent trying to figure Sukuna out, but as much as you tried, his motives remained unclear to you. You even started listing different possibilities together with Shoko and Utahime, but for every idea there was something in Sukuna's behaviour that didn't add up. You set up three theories:
REASON NUMBER ONE: He really just likes you platonically. But then why did he flirt with you sometimes, why did he almost kiss you, why did he put in such an effort into getting your number?
REASON NUMBER TWO: He was just trying to get into your pants. Maybe there was something going on with this girl, Manami, and he didn't want her to find out. But then why did he never make a move on you like that? Apart from the teasing, he's never been disrespectful or dirty towards you.
And, this was the most unlikely one, but,
REASON NUMBER THREE: He had a serious interest in you. But then, why wouldn't he just be straight forward? Why was this girl all over him at all times? And why didn't he do something against it? Or was he keeping the both of you as mere options?
Whatever it was, it was getting on your nerves. And you decided you wanted to make clear to him that the both of you should either be friends or nothing.
You were just taking a few things out of your locker when there was a sudden bang next to you. You took the last book out of it and then looked at the source.
"Boo." Sukuna called out, pressing his lower arm against the locker. He was wearing a simple white sweater with the sleeves rolled up, but it was so tight that it highlighted his broad, big chest. His hand was clenched into a fist, which meant that you had a perfect view of his flexing muscles as well.
You gulped and tried not to let on how attractive that was to you, because you couldn't afford to seem weak in front of him.
"Wow I'm so scared." you commented and closed your locker.
"I bet you are, now that I've got your number." he claimed. Then you faced him.
"Where did you get it from anyway?" you wondered. You still didn't have a single clue.
He smiled wickedly again.
"Why don't you ask your friend Utahime?"
Safe to say that's not what you expected coming out of his mouth.
"You're lying." you doubted.
"Why would I do that?" he replied with a foxy grin.
You took a deep breath.
"Alright, I'm gonna ask her later. But can we stop with the constant banter, it's giving me a headache."
"Oh, why's that?" he came closer, but you pushed him away again.
"It was fun in the beginning, but it's getting annoying now. Let's just be normal friends." you proposed.
"Friends?" Sukuna raised an eyebrow gently, considering your words and quirking a small smile. "You wanna befriend me?" he seemed oddly delighted about that. You didn't know if he was poking fun at you or not.
"Yeah, isn't that what you wanted?" you inquired, dumbfounded by his reaction.
"Yeah. Yeah, of course. Alright, let's be friends then." he stared down at you, a gleam in his eyes that you couldn't make out.
Yes, it would definitely be better to be friends. That way, he wouldn't constantly irritate you with his mixed signals.
And with that, your friendship with the star player began.
RAHHH he's so confusing!!! Wdym you send me LETTERS to contact me?!?!?! And then say you're not after me? ARGHHH
What do you think his intentions are? As always, reblogs and comments are so so appreciated! I wanna hear your thoughts about it so bad! <3

alright, friends, i might say something you don't like but i think it's important. not just to defend a character, but because i think this is literally making people's experience and relationship with this game worse.
give jimmy like two seconds to exist.
by hating jimmy so much you refuse to even say his name, and judge real, living people for liking him, you are cheapening your experience by boiling down the main character to the most ~yuckiest~ moments. and, by not making a seperate space for hating on him, you are drowning out the voices of people who actually have nuanced things to say about his character. you know, the skilled writers and artists that feed the fandom? limitation is what kills fandoms, you have to know that.
is jimmy a good person? no. is he a good captain/companion/worker? Absolutely Not! he crumbles like dust under any pressure and he immediately shifts blame off of himself, he is an actively harmful individual and it's right to be upset by his actions. i literally had to stop myself from saying "man FUCK jimmy." multiple times because i didn't want to spoil how terrible he got to my friends when i showed the game to them.
but you have to understand; people are more than their actions. thats part of the entire point of the game. thats why its so abstract. you are meant to think about the nuances of their situation.
we can agree that anya was way more as a woman than what happened to her and what she did as a result of it, right? that despite her best efforts, she was a victim of circumstance, and she deserves to be understood and analyzed fully?
then why, seeing a fictional man who has done immoral things, are you so disgusted you won't even draw, write or discuss him outside of hate? what is that doing for you, to ignore literally the main character of the game because of his actions?
now, this is not to say people can't hate jimmy. i understand it! as someone who has been a victim of s/a and abuse, i understand if you hate him and are even triggered by him to the point of avoiding mention of him. (but...why are you in this fandom? ((not aggressive im genuinely asking)))
you can feel however you want about any character, my goal is not to control people. but i thought it was common knowledge to not hatepost about someone in their tag? over actual insight into his character and, you know, the main themes of the game?
jimmy is a man who has struggled his whole life. both him and curly confirm that in the game. he's unable to control his emotional outbursts, and he likely had no idea what to expect from being in fucking SPACE for over a year with people he probably didn't even know before that trip. and pony express and their corporate safety corner cutting certainly didnt help, did it?
for one reason or another, he most likely was never actually taught how to manage his emotions. that's just how it is sometimes, growing up as a man. and it would make sense if he was forced to deal with everything himself, no? he always complains, but he still says he'll handle it. because that's what he's always had to do. and this is just the start of what i could say about what made him the way that he is.
he's a victim too, not only of his own actions.
surprise surprise, people who do awful things can also be victims.
honestly, this entire situation baffles me. how are you going to avoid one of the main characters of the game, let alone the one you play as ninety percent of the time? mind you, curly is also guilty, and i am happy to see at least some people giving him space for nuance. because he is also a victim!!! why is it so impossible to see jimmy as nuanced, when literally every other character also has incredible depth to them??
you're tarnishing and spitting on the beautiful writing of this game just because one character is too icky for you to feel comfortable thinking about for too long. it's horror, you absolute morons. it's supposed to make you uncomfortable.
if you hate jimmy, i dont blame you. but please, please, make your own space for it. be kind to people who want to explore jimmy and the darker themes, and like him for what his character represents. this is a video game fandom, not a witch hunt. and please, learn some fandom etiquette while you're at it, okay? okay. thank you
also just say his name. its not a slur youre not gonna go to hell if you say jimmy. like this isn't as important but still it just feels like a microcosm of this whole thing.
#mouthwashing#mouthwashing jimmy#jimmy mouthwashing#mouthwashing crew#mouthwashing spoilers#mouthwashing anya#mouthwashing analysis#i am seriously so tired of seeing this#i tried to word this as nice as possible but#GggRRRAAHHH#HES A FICTIONAL CHARACTER HE IS MEANT TO BE EXPLORED.
