"for your information, i've never fancied voldemort!" marlene shouted from the bathroom, where she was doing her eyeliner. "and i never will, because one, i'm a lesbian, and two, he's a maniac."

"standards! yes! finally!" lily exclaimed, jumping up and down, and she was hit in the face with one of marlene's white pillows. "like i said," she smiled, glancing over to the bathroom, where marlene had pointed her middle finger to her. "marlene finally has standards!"

"fuck off," marlene grinned, coming out of the bathroom, and started looking for her black ramones t-shirt. "but if you want me to, i'll give you three tries. not each," she said, looking pointedly at mary, who struck her tongue out, "but i'd love to see you try and fail miserably."

"can we at least get any hints?" she asked, hope in her voice, as she grabbed her small, golden mirror and her red lipstick.

"no."

"you're no fun," mary moaned, popping the lid off.. "hm, well, hestia jones? i saw you flirting yesterday! i'm pretty sure there's a chance it's her, right? or could it be cayla, from herbology? you couldn't stop smiling at each other."

marlene shook her head, grinning. the other girl huffed annoyedly. they used to tell each other when they had a date straight away. why did that have to change now? and who was marlene's secret, hidden lover?

"there's no way it's emmeline vance because she's going out with someone else today-"

"with you?" lily asked, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively, although she knew very well who mary was going to. she loved adding fuel to the fire, teasing her friends.

"no!" she exclaimed. "you already know who i'm going out with today, lily, so i see no reasoning in what you just said. none, really."

"hey! since when do i not know who you two are going out with?" marlene asked, fake annoyance in her voice.

"since when we don't know who you are going out with, marlene." lily smiled sweetly. "it's a double standard, you can't expect to know who mary and i are going out with if we don't know who you are going out with."

"well, that's just rude." marlene huffed, jokingly. "i have a reason not to tell you. and what is the reason, you may ask, is that you'll make fun of me, because neither you nor i have expected, and oh look, i'm running late, so see ya!"

she was sure that, with the new clue that she had given them, they would have guessed, so, naturally, the smartest choice would have been leaving them no place and no time left to unfold everything. and, besides, her date might have been already waiting for her.

seconds after marlene had left, lily and mary turned their heads, looking at each other slyly, huge grins on their faces.

"it's dorcas meadowes, right?" lily asked, but she already knew the answer.

"yup."

"They're at the library. Again," James huffed, throwing himself on his bed, facedown in his pillow.

"Gods, they're disgusting," Sirius griped.

"Wish Reg would be disgusting with me."

"Oi! Don't talk about my brother like that, you twit!" Sirius whined, pretending to gag.

"As if you don't regularly think about Moony while you wa-" James started, grinning, but Sirius interrupted.

"Let's go flying, I don't want to think about anything right now."

"They're at the Quidditch Pitch again," Remus murmured, looking over the Map, spotting Sirius and James's dots on the grounds. Alone.

"Why do we care?" Regulus asked flatly, not looking up from his book.

"Because I know they're hiding something. Merlin, they're probably snogging. Do you think they're snogging, Reg? I don't think I could handle it if-"

But Regulus cut him off. "Calm down," he said, his cheeks pink. "They're not snogging. They wouldn't. They can't."

But Remus just raised his eyebrow. "Not that you care. Right?"

"They're staring at each other. Again. All four of them," Marlene whispered to Dorcas, curling closer to her on the couch.

And it took just a few seconds to figure out it was true. Remus and Sirius kept stealing glances at each other, pointedly avoiding each others' eyes, while James stared unabashedly at Regulus; the younger boy looking anywhere else but the Gryffindor.

"How long before you think they'll figure it out?" Dorcas responded, rolling her eyes.

"Five galleons says it's not before Christmas. They're all idiots," Marlene laughed.

"Reg's smart," Dorcas shrugged. I'll take that bet."

Marauders x Batfamily Crossover

So I really want to write a marauders x bats crossover, but I am uncharacteristically lost on the mechanics of it. You see, I love coming up with random au’s for my fandoms, and I have SO MANY IDEAS about interactions between marauders era characters and the bats (specifically around sibling dynamics), and many many ideas for random plot points and scenes, but what I can’t figure out is why they end up in this situation in the first place.

The general idea is that the bats go undercover at Hogwarts during the marauders era to gather information and help with the war against Voldemort. I’m not sure WHICH of the bats it would be, and what their roles in this endeavour would be (is it Tim, Steph & Damian who go, as they’re the only ones in the age range? Or is there some sort of age reversal spell involved that allows them all to attend? Or maybe the older bats are involved, but from the outside, as members of the Order of the Phoenix or Deatheaters or Ministry workers etc., or is it Young Justice who go?), but that is something I can figure out later depending on the mechanics of how it comes about.

What I need to know first is why it’s happening. Whereas in Golden Trio era crossovers the timeline can easily be adjusted to match up, for this crossover it’s very important that the Marauders era is in the 70s, and the bats would have to be from the 2010s+ in order to realistically have the technology they do. Therefore there has to be some sort of time or dimension travel involved. Meaning that this mission has to be entirely purposeful and planned. They have to have a reason to go back in time or travel to another dimension to help with the wizard of war (which also happens to be in England, very far from Gotham and the bats territory).

I have plans for how they get magic, how they get into the school etc., but this part is what’s really bugging me. I need my AU’s to make logical sense, otherwise I drop them.

I’d also like to mention that there are literally no fics with this crossover on ao3, and therefore I, as someone who has been deeply immersed in both these fandoms for a while, feel a moral obligation to fill this tragic gap. There’s just far too much potential for character interactions and awesome plot points to pass up the opportunity.

Also I’d like to put what ships/headcanons I may be including/referencing in this, just as a disclaimer in case anyone feels strongly against them. Just because they’re on this list doesn't necessarily mean they will definitely be included, but this is just what I fuck with and will include if it works for the plot.

•Romantic Ships (Marauders): Jegulus, Wolfstar, Pandalily, Dorlene, Rosekiller.

•Romantic Ships (Bats): TimKon (possibly Timberkon), Birdflash.

•I can maybe be convinced to include others so long as they’re not incest, age gap or anything else horrifying and illegal.

•Platonic Ships/Dynamics (Marauders): Marauders (James, Peter, Sirius, Remus)(obviously), Valkyries (Lily, Mary, Marlene), Skittles (Regulus, Barty, Evan, Dorcas, Pandora), Black Brothers (Regulus & Sirius), Prongsfoot (James & Sirius), Moonwater (Regulus & Remus), Moonflower (Remus & Lily), Marlene, James & Peter as childhood besties.

•Platonic Ships/Dynamics (Bats): all the bats to varying degrees obviously, but specifically, Jason & Tim, Tim & Steph, Tim & Damian, Dick & Damian, Damian & Jason.

I’ve almost definitely forgotten some but you get the general picture. Hopefully.

I have an entire google doc dedicated to what houses I think each of the bats would be in, but my opinion on that changes literally daily. They’re confusing your honour. But mainly I think it would just be hilarious to put Jason Todd in a dorm with the marauders and watch them flounder. Oh and stick Tim in Regulus’ dorm. He’d be such a menace. And Steph in the Valkyries dorm. Someone stop me before I cause too much chaos 😭

Anyway! This crossover has been living rent free in my mind for so long and I would appreciate any and all feedback/thoughts/opinions/ideas!!!!

It would take books of chapters of pages of sentences of words for Dorcas to even try explaining the feeling.

It was indescribable and intangible but real and alive, rushing through Dorcas’s body like a broken dam, swirling and storming and making (them?) them feel everything.

All Dorcas knew was that they weren’t a girl. They didn’t have any problem with girls (in fact, they loved girls, give them Marlene any day), it’s just, they were not a girl. It was a fact. This cavity in their chest, which hollowed every time someone called them a ‘girl’.

They felt no connection to the word ‘girl’, because it wasn’t them. It didn’t mean anything to them. It didn’t resonate with them, didn’t make them satisfied. ‘Girl’ was an empty descriptor, making their hands twitch for something else to grab onto.

Not boy. They weren’t a boy either. They were just… Dorcas.

They wanted to exist like they were floating through clouds, like they were free from the ties to their body, like the vapour from the sky was washing their skin and making them just… a person. A person who strongly felt that they were a person.

This was hard.

Just this: the skin of their hand was just skin. The lines across their palms were just lines. Genderless and human and there. The nails of their fingers could be varnished or blunt, but they would still be genderless parts of a human body. The shirts they wore could be cropped or baggy, but they would still be genderless and made for humans.

They could have no hair on their chin, but it was still a chin, they could have boobs on their chest, but it was still a chest, they could have nothing between their legs, but they still had legs, and they could remove their reproductive organs, but they’d still have all the others.

Their human heart and their human lungs, which both malfunctioned whenever they laid their eyes upon the most beautiful human. (Marlene. Obviously Marlene.)

And they had this feeling that when Marlene looked at them, she saw a person too. Just a person. A beautiful person. Them.

Just saw your post and I was wondering how you would write any of your ships confessing. Like how would they realise they're in love? How would they tell the other?

I'm about to go on a Long Rant so, bear with me !

- Jegulus, for me these two had to build a sense of trust and friendship before confessing their feelings. James has a bad history with coming off too strong and Regulus' insecurities make it hard for him to jump headfirst into anything without overthinking it. So regardless of how smitten they are with each other, they start off slow and gentle, work their way up to stealing glances and touches and feeling hopeful about their feelings being reciprocated, and then they'll have a chat about it, confess in the astronomy tower while stargazing and sharing the softest of kisses (can you tell I'm obsessed with them?)

- for Wolfstar, I am a firm believer in them falling in love at first sight, but not being able to pinpoint the feeling due to their young age. So the moment they start to understand what causes their hearts to beat harder when they're too close or why they simply can't take their eyes oof of each other, they are a tangle of limbs and would confess after a steamy makeout session. I also like the friends with benefits to lovers trope, especially when it's Remus pining and Sirius not realizing how in love he is. But overall I'm a firm believer in Sirius confessing the SECOND it makes sense to him. He's just not the type to think it through beforehand.

- Dorlene 🥰🥰🥰 I love the rivals to lovers trope with them. Whether it's quidditch or school, both of them are too talented and too brilliant, and confuse the excitement they feel around each other with a competitive streak. Up until the moment one of them is dating someone else, and the bitterness and jealousy they feel is too distinct to be mistaken for anything else. Cue the pining, then hopefully the kissing and dating because for me, they are made for each other in every possible way.

-Rosekiller are friends with benefits. They are both too unhinged to start it off in any other way. They're paired up on their first year with Regulus, becoming instant friends, wreaking havoc together. Then they start to grow and discover themselves, and nobody is better for them than each other. But after years of them fooling around without feeling the need to date or sleep with anyone else, they figure out that they're basically dating already, and they just settle into it more comfortably.

- For lily, I see her as a lesbian, but I'm still discovering whether I prefer her dynamic with Pandora or Mary. Maybe both. But yeah, I don't really have any specific thoughts about it yet.

i do!! i think about them lots and lots and lots…

i generally don’t like to imagine that anything happened between them in school, apart from a very severe quidditch rivalry (one of the only tiktok tropes that you will have to pry from my cold dead hands). to me, it’s most compelling for them to re-encounter each other in the order, and both are forced to reconsider their views of the other. in general, i feel like they are very different people, and seem to embody their respective hogwarts houses: dorcas is intelligent, ambitious, calculating, but can come across as cold, whereas marlene is hot-headed and impulsive, but also courageous, loyal, and believes in doing the right thing. they are natural enemies in school, but the circumstances of war blur the lines and they find themselves as two new people, drawn to each other.

during the war, they’re both two lost souls. anyone dorcas was associated with before, at school, is now on the other side. she’s completely alone in the order, as most of the other members are old friends or family or at least ran in the same circles prior to all this. but as a slytherin muggle-born, she never got the chance to form any of those connections. the prejudice against slytherins during these times is high, and i like to think of marlene as very involved in this; she mistrusts and dislikes dorcas due to the fact she was in a certain hogwarts house (even in school, their rivalry was very much borne from this). the stereotype that all dark wizards come from slytherin, and all slytherins are bad, runs rampant. it’s a common sentiment, and dorcas feels the brunt of it. she’s no less discriminated against here than anywhere else. and she’s just as lonely.

marlene perhaps feels equally as alone, in a different way. she’s in the order with her friends and her family, but she starts to feel estranged from them. mary doesn’t want to be involved. lily is having a baby and starting a family. her parents and siblings are being sent on progressively more dangerous and secretive missions. she feels left behind. she struggles with feeling fulfilled, or feeling like she’s accomplishing anything. it feels like everyone is moving forward and marlene in stuck in the same place, waiting for things to happen. nothing feels like it’s changing, the war doesn’t feel like it’s being won, and she feels isolated from everyone else.

they get sent on a mission, or they are the last ones left at a meeting, or they just end up together somehow. it doesn’t take long for them to start using each other to feel less alone. and it takes even less time for them to both realise that they aren’t alone anymore, because, against all the odds, they’ve found each other. and when marlene is killed and dorcas loses the only thing she has left, it’s a good a reason as any to lose it and go on a suicide vengeance mission. because this whole time, she’s been fighting for herself, but as soon as she started to feel like a person again, that is also ripped away from her. the one thing that made it all seem worth it is gone, and so…it just isn’t worth it anymore!!! her whole life, dorcas has been trying to justify her existence. now, she’s given up. IT MAKES ME FERAL.

since people are asking for them, here are my unpopular marauders opinions

(note, and i mean this in the most serious way: please, for the love of god, if you don't agree, just scroll. there is no reason to cause drama over some unpopular opinions of some random tumblr user just because you don't agree with me.)

remus is my least favorite character. don't get me wrong, i love him to bits, he's just the least intriguing to me. he's the character we've been given most of; not only that, i find sirius and james' character, as well as peter's (and his betrayal), as far more interesting

i don't really like jegulus for the same reason as remus; the dynamic is interesting, there is a lot to work with there, including the death eater and order member dynamic, but i just find some ships as more interesting

most of the characters are written as super one-dimensional and therefore i do not like most fandom characterizations which is a crucial point, to me, in whether i read the fic. i like fics in which the characters are written as real people, with human emotions and flaws, and not some qualities thrown together

some wolfstar shippers are pretty much the most annoying people in fandom (coming from a wolfstar shipper). shipping the only consistent ship in this fandom does not make you inherently better than everyone else, and just because someone else splits wolfstar for other ships dynamics does not mean anything

the black sisters and the evans sisters, if written well, can be more interesting than the black brothers and i don't think we talk enough about them (i also find the black brothers are really interesting, and i need more fics in which the intensity of these dynamics are explored)

i dislike the main characterization of regulus in fandom, being a huge fan of morally grey regulus. however, each with their own characterization, and i'm no one to judge next. i find him to be a very interesting character, however, and i like fics that dive deeper into his character

people who ship jegulus and hate lily for no reason need to chill; furthermore, people who hate mary and lily for "getting in the way" of their mlm ships are... i'm not going to comment on this, but you probably know what i mean

"stan bambi" comments on snape videos are really annoying because the very same way we don't like (and sometimes get aggressive) over snape lovers attacking the characters we like, why are we doing that to other people?

i need more peter-centered fics, and i do not like him only being a sidekick or ignored. also, mary is also a very interesting character, and i don't think we credit her enough for it

dorlene > wolfstar

the girls are far more interesting than people make them out to be and i NEED an atyd-like fic (long canon compliant etc) from their povs. it's not a want, it's a need, and i might just write it myself, because i think that a fic like that has a lot of potential

this might be my most unpopular opinion but i prefer lily to regulus; i find them both to be very interesting characters, but i find myself more drawn to lily

i do not see sirius as transfem but why do people have to be so pressed about this hc. lif you don't see it, shut up, move on with your day, and let people who see it do their thing; this fandom is TOO pressed about other people's hcs

i kind of dislike fanon james because they strip him of all humanity and emotions, and make him a ray of walking sunshine with no issues (hence my essay on it, which you can read here)

— Wolfstar - 7.5/10, I really like it it’s like a wolf howling to the moon but expect to a star, which is strange but beautiful. I’ve heard it sm it’s kinda normal for me idk, it doesn’t strike me that much. ~ Moonstar - 8.5/10, I love this also, I prefer this one tho. This one feels right and just seems more like engaging ig?

— Jily - 8/10, very cute name. Jily is the og name and I love it but.. ~ Flowerpot - 9.5/10 i love this name SM better, it sounds more iconic and rare idk, Flowerpot does different stuff to me. Gives me more love and home-y vides which fit them sm

— Pandalily - 9/10, it’s reminds me of a sunny day with rain: the perfect mix of warm and cooling down. It’s so cute ‘panda’ and ‘lily’ is such a cute mix and I love it

— Marylily - 5.5/10, very cutey I love lesbians friends to lovers. It’s such a beautiful fun name and I think the ship dynamic changes my opinion but I still love it

— Marlily - 6.5/10, sound smooth, I get kinda confuse this with Marylily cause they look similar but they’re still both very cute, I still like this name.

— Dorlene - 5/10, love this ship sm but this name is so weird, it doesn’t spell, sound or look nice. Just gives me weird vibes idk. The ship >>> the name

— Jegulus - 3/10, sick ship, the most known name even though I very much dislike the name. This name doesn’t sound or look that nice, it’s just weird to me but.. ~ Sunseeker/Starchaser - 8/10, much better, more iconic, more unique, more interesting. I like this sm better. It’s also real cause James be down bad for his lovers and is definitely chasing them. I think I like Sunseeker better tho, like Regulus seeking out James and making him fall inlove with him, makes me feels thing

— Rosekiller - 8.5/10, very luck fits their vides it’s just so perfect and I love it. I think it is kinda basic because it’s been around so long, but I don’t think anything else can fit their relationship so well into a name

— Bartylus - 2/10, I don’t really like this shop but the name just makes it worse, it’s just sounds dirty and messy and idk how to describe it idk ~ Starkiller - 8/10, that’s such a better name and is savage asf. I don’t really like this ship but this name is amazing, I don’t why but this name reminds me of flames for no reason and I think it’s real fitting

— Sunkiller - 6/10, sick name, sounds like something that would be a bad guy name like deadpool or smth. Like damnn, this ship is growing my and I think this name is helping. It’s a sick name and it kinda fits their vides, Barty’s part of his ship names being ‘killer’ always fits, and this is another one that shows it so well

~ Darksun - 5.5/10, savage, reminds me of an ellipse or like an apocalypse movie idk why but I ain’t complaining

There was this wire between Dorcas and Marlene. They were friends, but did friends have this wire? Snapping, pulling taut, charged and electric?

Usually there was no current. Or the current was so unnoticeable, so little, it could be passed off as friends. Dorcas had almost missed her romantic feelings for Marlene because of the tension that was always there. It was… part of them. Now their home, their safety, stable friendship.

Sometimes the wire sparked to the point of electrocution, Dorcas’s body shaking from how much Marlene made her feel, but she never acted on it. Friends, first and foremost.

Marlene had held her hand that first day, and that was the wire. That was the connection. Marlene was a whirlwind of golden electricity, and that was the spark. Blond hair tangled around Dorcas’s brown skin as she had to use her afro pick to untie the knots. Messy, but stable. Friendship was safe. They could love each other as friends. The possibility of actually using the wire for something else, increasing the voltage of their relationship, was too risky. Something would break, explode, kaput.

Fizzle out like a burnt-out wire. Never to be used again. As friends, as lovers, as anything. Dorcas would not risk their wire.

Except now they were sitting together, so close, legs dangling off the edge of the balcony, and the wire was so stretched. So close, magnetic field circling it, iron-locked, current flowing, vibrations in the air around them from how intensely it was trembling, the wire of a guitar with their fingers dancing along it to meet in the middle, twanging out of tune then back again, mellifluous, awkward, tension, high and low and in between, trying every note and Dorcas could scream. This was not a happy, lovey-dovey pop number. This was Dorcas and Marlene’s wire, and they were walking the tightrope, about to fall off.

This wire was connected by their lips. Their parted lips, centimetres away from each other, and the power had never surged this much before. This was a short-circuit, closing inwards, explosive. This was a build-up, all in one place, hot and heavy with the weight and pressure of so many particles all in one place. And if they closed the gap… if their lips touched…

If Dorcas could kiss Marlene…

If Marlene kissed her…

Blame the wire.

They sealed the gap. And the current died.

This was natural. No need for sparks and fire and electricity when their lips slotted together like bricks building a home, when the feeling was soft and comfortable like sinking into plush cushions after a long day, getting lost in domesticity, the natural way of life, temperate air, not too hot but not too cold.

Why had Dorcas thought they would burn? If anything, they would burn if they remained friends. If they ignored their love, if they let it suffocate them without talking, if they didn’t try… they could ruin a relationship that way.

They were safe together. As long as they expressed how they actually felt.

Dorcas pulled back and smiled. “I like you. That way,” she added.

Marlene lit up, “Go out with me.”

Dorcas paused. “Oh. We had our first kiss before the first date.”

Marlene grinned, reaching for Dorcas’s chin, tilting it towards her. “Well, that’s a first. Let’s make it a second.”
