Headcanons of Lucifer watching his s/o and Charlie getting along and maybe even having a little musical note together I just know he'd be getting all teary eyed and shit seeing his baby girl having some form of mother figure or someone she can really look to for advice currently present in her life ❤️ Thanks sm hope u have a good day/night!
Absolutely!
I think at first the relationship between Charlie and anyone her dad dates is awkward because she's so nice and trying to be supportive and Lucifer's new s/o would be trying too hard to create that bond. But steadily, you two would find real things you have in common and begin spending time together.
I'm going to use myself for reference here, but I personally really like arts and crafts kind of stuff and am willing to listen to pretty much all genres of music as long as I like the beat/rhythm. So I imagine most of your bonding is done making posters for the hotel, doing crafts with the guests, and just in general vibing to music together.
Like, one suggested activity for the group is coloring because it's a good outlet and it becomes so popular you guys just have a permanent stack of coloring pages and books available with marker, pens, colored pencils, and you, Charlie, Lucifer, and Vaggie are all just coloring and talking, Lucifer's telling embarrassing stories about baby Charlie for you and Vaggie, and you share a few embarrassing stories of yourself to make Charlie feel better and the absolute relief on her face is palpable.
Charlie is nervous because some sinners critiqued her hotel, her appearance, how her dad had to bail her out in the fight against heaven and it's all just making her upset. And of course her dad and her girlfriend are gonna say stuff about how she's beautiful, the hotel is a wonderful idea, and she was so brave in that fight. And like, yeah you're dating her dad and you've been super nice so far, but when you sit down next to her and ask quietly, "Can I offer you some advice?"
"Please? I feel like I don't know what I'm doing."
You laugh, patting her shoulder. "You're young, Charlie, you're not supposed to have it all figured out. But one thing you can do, is decide not to let judgemental pricks get to you. Take every criticism with a grain of salt. Improve, adapt, and filter out bullshit. You can't make everyone happy, and you'll exhaust yourself if you try. So as long as you're happy and at the end of the day you can say you're proud of what you've done, that you tried....well, that should be enough, right?"
Charlie thinks about it and nods. There's a visible shift in her attitude. "Thanks, I needed to hear that....Do you think you could help me read through some of the reviews and stuff? I want to improve if there's any genuine issue that I can address and Dad and Vaggie are....a lot. They just keep trying to tell me everything is perfect."
"They're just trying to hype you up. They love you a lot, so naturally they want you to feel successful and excited. Come on, let's go make some big bowls of ice cream and read through those reviews using silly AI voices. It'll be hilarious."
You and Charlie head off to do just that, talkin and laughing, and neither one of you notices Lucifer absolutely melting into the floor from a few floors up, as he clings to the railing he was leaning against to ease drop. He's gonna need a few minutes to recover. He's crying happy tears. His little girl is grown up and getting along with his partner and they're spending time together and enjoying things together. You're giving her advice and offering her comfort and meeting Charlienat her level and he's just more convinced you're perfect.
He may or may not be ring shopping in the near future. Probably with Ozzie and Bee. They've always had good taste and will probably be thrilled to help him. And if Ozzie is also casually looking for a ring while they're out, well, Lucifer won't say anything.

I’m sorry people keep comparing your AU to other AUs without giving anything else to go on! Just saying your work seems like someone else’s but then not explaining why or how would just feel like they’re not appreciating your work for its own creativity. :(
Every AU, even ones that come from a common base idea, are unique because they come from different people! In this case, the only AU I know of currently that’s even remotely like yours is still different because they made their NRC boys magical creatures and their medium is drabble fanfiction. Your AU is art based!
And your artwork is SO CUTE????? The art style you have just gives me the vibes of a watercolor painting… if that makes any sense at all??? I know you’re using a paper and pencil but I see your drawings and they just feel watercolor to me.
And I love that so much. They’re so soft and flowy and squishy and I just wanna hug them! 💜
For your AU, may I ask for a written list of what animals the guys are? I’m pretty sure I can figure most of them out by the reference picture you provided and by popular fanon choices, but I’d still like to confirm if that’s okay?
Plus, I can be dumb sometimes. 😅 So, having an official list made by the creator would be helpful! 😊
You said in your post you were upset with people mentioning comparable AUs without even linking them, so the AU I was talking about up there that is writing based is the house pet au by @/twst-drabbles. I hope this ask didn’t stress you out! It’s definitely not my intention!
I literally melted while reading this so sweetly.
I'm a bad yapper, but I'll try.
Riddle Hedgehog. because of the thorns he is wearing a jacket not a regular shirt or t-shirt
Ace Fennec. Just fennec. I don't want to explain it.
Deuce Blue Wolfhound. i like to think he used to be pretty aggressive in this au before too.
Trey Panda. he's just big and soft. but doesn't really like to be stroked too much.
Cater the Red Panda. they are just cute red and love attention not sure what to add
I didn't change Savanaclaw and Octavinelle animals so I'll skip them.
All the Octavinelle members live in a big pool that has an indoor entrance. i think Crowley just gave them the pool because he was too lazy to do the aquarium.
Jamil Rattlesnake. i didn't want to think too much about a particular subspecies of snake ok .;) he sleeps in the terrarium most of the time
Kalim Sea otter. his favorite toy is plastic colored shells. in fact he can steal anything that looks like a shell.
Vil Peacock. In fact, I've been thinking for a very long time about what else Vil could be besides a peacock and I haven't come up with anything. actually I'm not complaining. Sometimes he dives off the perch on Grim because he acts like an ass.
Rook the poodle. He's so abnormally hyperactive and the worst part is he's quiet.
Epel grizzly.
Idia and Ortho still cause arguments in my head they are the only ones I haven't drawn. Idk Idia could be a greyhound????
Malleus the dragon. in my head he just likes gargoyles and ice cream and strides with the sound of SpongeBob.
Lilia the bat. He's so affectionate and likes to brush his fur.
Silver Ferret. I knew he had to be a ferret when I saw all those videos where they are VERY hard to wake up.
Sebek the crocodile. he's so noisy and likes to stomp his feet and tail.

behind the scenes
@creators-club @bardic-tales
it's behind the scenes day! time to talk about the process behind my writing and stuff lol.
usually when I write a chapter, I'll list the details in bullet point form first, and then flesh it out afterwards. you can see this in some rough draft excerpts where I got tired and couldn't make it through the brain fog, so I just made a summary of the rest of the chapter and moved on. If I didn't do it like this, I'd still be stuck in the intro chapters.
I usually write on my laptop while I'm cozy in an armchair, frequently with a dog on my lap because our dog has learned that once I sit down with my creative projects, I'm unlikely to move from that spot for hours on end, making me an ideal warm spot for his naps.
(image description: a fluffy smallish dog sleeping with his tongue sticking out. he's got a crochet project on his back. end description.)
and for a little peek at how much my protagonists have changed, here's a side by side of my very first art of Morianon next to his current design:
(image description: on the left is a colored pencil drawing on an index card, showing a young elf boy with tan skin and messy black hair. It's labeled "Mori" with the year 2014. on the left side is a digital painting of a bird-like humanoid man with green and blue feathers covering most of his tan skin. He has a scar across his face, a vaguely sketched tattoo on his forehead, and red and cream paint around his eyes. this side is labeled "Morianon" with the year 2024. it's also colored to resemble an index card behind him. end description.)
I forgot this was his tenth anniversary of existence! Near exact, even! It was definitely autumn when I originally designed him, and I came up with a full name after deciding to call him Mori. Ironically I was learning Spanish at the time but I didn't realize until much much later that "mori" is latin for death/die. as in memento mori. which I should have noticed. since I had learned French in high school and was learning Spanish when I first created him. Initially, his full name was Morianten, but I didn't feel right about it later and altered it to Morianon. It's an elvish name, but I haven't decided if it means anything yet lol.
And I tried but I cannot find the oldest art I made for Evarin! I know there's gotta be some original sketches of her somewhere. I don't remember exactly when she became a character, she happened after my brain took a liking to Mori and decided to give him some friends. So in lieu of having any older art of her, I made a comparison of what she looked like before I had nailed down my gnome and orc designs vs what she looks like now. Her name was originally Evelyn.
(image description: two digital painting portraits in shades of purple. on the left is Evelyn, painted in 2021. she has a humanoid face, but the proportions are elongated and she has small pointy ears. Her hair is tied in a high ponytail and she has thick sideburns. on the right is Evarin, painted in 2024. She has more pig-like facial features with a snout and the faint bump of a tusk under her lower lip, where the root sticks out from the jaw bone. her sideburns look neater here, and her hair is in a braid. She also has a vague forehead tattoo and red and cream paint around her eyes. Both versions have a visible unibrow. end description.)
The face paint is one of the most recent decisions; I hadn't figured out elvish wedding customs yet, but since Mori was raised by elves I thought he and Evarin should have elvish wedding symbols somewhere. Ended up going for face paint because I gave all my male elves and their cousin species a little nose bump on the side, kinda like mandrils (it's more vibrant on the drow, the elves and stroi have a subtler bump) and I liked the idea that they might use the area around their nose as a place for social status face paint, such as to show they're married. each elf culture has a different set of colors and designs unique to them. but I keep forgetting to add it when I draw Mori and Evarin, so I've also made it a character trait that Mori, feeling disconnected from elvish culture cuz he's half bird dude, often neglects the face paint, and his wife being a gnome also does not remind him about it.
Sometimes you just have to follow the Bob Ross philosophy of "happy accidents" whenever you make a mistake lol

baking happens after you use all of your liquid and cream products. so foundation, concealer, cream, blush, etc.
(ex. cream blush would go before baking but powder blush can go after bc there’s no need to bake it)
baking is typically for full/heavier faces of makeup so it’s not a commonly used for makeup trends lately since they focus more on natural “no makeup” makeup. instead they use a light layer of setting powder (also used for making) or a pressed powder to set their face. it’s not even always used all over, sometimes just in my oily spots.
i personally just set under my eyes and use setting spray for the rest of my face because i hate looking too matte (but i do keep pressed powder on me when it’s hot out just to get rid of any oil that may show up throughout the day)
so baking doesn’t necessarily come after contour if the contour is powder, i’m p sure you can do it after. i’ll try to find a good tutorial but tiktoks search system is so fucked rn so give me some time.
https://www.ipsy.com/blog/baking-vs-setting-makeup
this is also a very good article explaining the difference between baking and regular setting. but i find a visual tutorial is always a little better.
you can do your base routine before or after eye makeup it’s really just a personal preference. i do mine before bc i have my go -to eye routine so on lock that i’m not concerned about fucking it up. i know a lot of professional make up artists do it first bc sometimes the way their eye makeup looks will dictate the placement of some parts of their base routine.
contour goes on the parts of your face where there are shadows. hollows of your cheeks, jawline, nose. i’ve been told to blend cheek contour upwards to make your face more sharp looking, and blend your jaw contour down to achieve that same effect.
bronzer (if you’re into that) would go on the parts of your face that the sun hit bc it’s supposed to warm you up. i tend to skip this step bc there aren’t a lot of cool toned bronzers.
idk if you put eyeshadow under your eyes too but i think it looks really nice. a small brush + blending it out just a bit under your waterline + eyeliner in your waterline!!! so good
i don’t have the right eyes for lashes (f in the chat for me) so i just really make sure my mascara is a good one. essence lash princess (the one with the green on it) is super affordable and very good. also maybelline has a shit time of popular and really good mascaras that are cheap as hell
pastes/pomades for brows are great, i use one regularly but i’m very light with my strokes bc i was once told i look like a villain if my brows are too bold. brow pencils are also great if you want preciseness
i also learned how to do my makeup through trial and error. a LOT of trial and error bc i A) suck at follow tutorials and B) didn’t have similar features to any of the people i was watching. so i just had to figure it out on my own so i really recommend that no matter what tutorials you watch A) adapt them to your face shape and B) continue using trial and error and explore your face and features on your own
i’ll be back with some vids if i can find any :)
idc about makeup trends rn with the whole "natural" "cleaner" look fuck that. i have a guy's face that needs to be painted over with gothic meets party girl makeup. thank you for explaining baking and for the blush bit. i typically don't use any blush at all and i don't see myself using it in the future, i've never been a fan of how it looks on me
the tip about keeping pressed powder on you for oily bits throughout the day, and the link are supremely helpful thank you smm
got it i'll skip the bronzer i didn't know if there was a cool toned version of it to use
i have like old mascara that i inherited from one of my sisters so ill prolly get a new one soon thank u for the tips, and for the eyebrows i have the clay/pomade like i told u but i got too light of a color so do that first and then i darken it with black eyeshadow and then i sharpen it using concealer which is what u saw in the pic. i think i could stand to make them darker bcos i like bold eyebrows but i guess it might make me look too masculine which would defeat the purpose of wearing the full face of makeup to warp those existing traits
the paragraph about learning through trial and error was literally what i've been doing my entire experience with makeup. no mainstream makeup looks ever complimented me and i wasnt rly going for a drag look bcos i'm trying to be a touch more subtle with it. the problem i was running into which drove me to ask the chat for tips is bcos im self taught that means a lot of stuff i don't know how to works or what to ask or the order etc so you've been extremely helpful on that front especially with building confidence so thank you

My Morning Routine with Body Dysmorphic Disorder
From the ages of 12 to 16, I spent 4 hours getting ready for school every weekday morning. First period started at 7:35 A.M., I woke up at 3:40 and usually arrived to class around 7:55 with an apologetic smile and a late pass. I said it was car trouble, or that my alarm hadn't gone off.
I spent the first hour-and-a-half of my day plucking my eyebrows, my temples, and my forehead up to my hairline, sitting side saddle on the sink and twisting around towards the mirror when I got tired of standing. I shaved the rest of the face from the eyes down: my cheeks, my sideburns, mustache, beard, and nose, my neck, and my ears with just water, no shaving cream. Then I spent another hour-and-a-half in the shower, turning the water on to rinse my razor and off again to shave repeatedly to try and stretch the heat as long as possible. I covered my entire body with shaving cream, painting myself white. I started with my stomach, then my breasts, my sternum, my nipples, then my sides, my underarms, my back as far up as I could reach and then my shoulders as far down, though I always missed a strip of skin above my waist. My hairline on the back of my neck, so nothing could stand up, even if I was scared. Then my arms, my hands, my knuckles, I wasn't very careful and I gave myself a few scars. Next my legs, feet, toes and pubic hair. When the water ran ice cold, I would turn it off, get out, and set up my makeup table while I waited for it to warm up again. I got back in, nicked myself a few more times, then washed my hair and body and used my prescription acne cleanser. My parents bought men's razors in bulk because I needed a new one every day. My clean skin only lasted a couple of hours, then turned into 11:00 A.M. shadow.
The next hour was makeup: sunscreen, moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, bronzer, contour, setting powder, blush, chapstick, lip liner, lipstick, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. I wasn't very good at it; it always came out cakey or racoony. I listened to music, mostly Taylor Swift or Avril Lavigne, sometimes showtunes, while I worked. Then I brushed my hair, adding some brown eyeshadow to the bald spots to make it look fuller, got dressed in my school uniform, and packed up my lunch and books in a rush. No time for breakfast and I had the early lunch period at 10:35 anyway. I'm a girly-girl. I think I would have loved makeup the way I love fashion. I think it would have been fun to experiment with new colors, new styles, new brands, my favorite actresses' recommendations.
If I didn't do this, I couldn't leave my house. So I had the flu a lot. And I never went out on weekends. My one goal in life was beauty, or getting as close to it as someone like me could. It took up everything: my time, my energy, my focus. For the rest of the day, when I wasn't grooming, I was thinking about it.
Two years later, I don't do it anymore, but I miss it. If felt so good. It was so satisfying to destroy all those little parts of myself over and over again every day. I looked forward to it. I enjoyed the routine of it; it was so familiar to me. Mondays were my favorite, when I could free myself of all the evil that had built up over the weekend. I can't stand to touch my skin now and have to remember how smooth it used to be. I've scratched myself bloody trying to find some relief.
There have been setbacks. I snuck my mother's tweezers into the bathroom a couple of times, or she left her razor lying around after she thought I'd gotten over it. If I grow my nails out long enough, I can use them. I've tried other methods- new snake oil miracle razors, every depilatory cream, waxing, threading, bleaching, free consultations for expensive laser and electrolysis.
All the adults in my life were so happy and proud of me when I stopped. I don't feel I've made any "progress" as they define it. I don't perform those behaviors anymore, but I feel even worse. I hate myself even more, I feel trapped inside my own skin. I'm not any more loved or accepted now than I was then, which was all that mattered to me.
They have no idea what it is to be hideous. They could never, ever understand what it's like to have to exist in this world in this body. To have to live with yourself and sleep at night knowing what you are. To never be a woman, to never be young, to be inhuman, your own vile, repulsive species, something completely separate than everyone around you that should be kept locked in a cage away from society. Something that should be put down for it's own good. To be some kind of animal, or beast, to be born a monster. To want to gouge your own eyes out so you never have to see yourself, to want to die because you aren't strong enough to live this way. To know that you'll spend every last moment of your whole life alone.
It was so difficult for me to accept my BDD diagnosis. I guess I still haven't. I don't "fixate on my perceived flaws," other people do. I do my best to correct my very much real flaws so that other people don't have to look at them. I didn't come up with this on my own, I didn't choose to be ill, if that's what I am, and I sure as hell didn't choose this body. I don't want to look like this, I don't want to upset people with my appearance, I don't want it to be necessary for me to do all this to fix myself, but it's just what I have to do. I accepted that, and I couldn't understand why no one else did.
Is there someone who could prove me wrong? Is there someone who could wait for me, not mind that I'm late to everything, that I always cancel plans at the last minute? Is there someone who wouldn't mind that I'm a crybaby, that I'm too particular and too sensitive? Is there someone who wouldn't mind me? There wasn't then and there isn't now and I don't think there's going to be. And as hard as I try, I can't stop needing there to be, and I can't be that person for myself.

makeup tips from an 18 year old who has been doing her makeup for the last 6 years and basically only uses drugstore products :)
if you're just starting out with makeup and you want to buy foundation/concealer or any other facial products, start with drugstore products. chances are you are going to have to experiment a bit before finding something that works for you. once you figure out what formulas work on your skin, you can look for similar products in higher end stores if you want to.
understand your skin tone and what looks good on your skin. most things in the makeup industry are separated into warm, cool, or neutral, which is an oversimplification, but it still helps to know which one you are. once i knew i was neutral i was able to realize what shades would better fit my skin just by looking at the bottle.
look for people online that have similar skin tones to you. normally, i would say don't rely too much on influencers because what the regular person uses make up for and what they use makeup for are very different, but it can really help, especially if you are a person of color. something that looks good on lighter skin tones, could pull too light or too warm on a darker skin tone. even the color sample is how the color looks against a lighter background. so go to people with a similar skin tones for recommendations.
use less products. there are so many products that aren't necessary, so formulate your routine with your needs in mind, and only focus on the products you need. remember anything that is safe for the lips is safe for the cheeks (check to make sure its safe for the eyelids). a pink lipstick could be a cream blush, a red lipstick could be color corrector, bronzer could be eyeshadow, mascara could be an eyeliner. plus, using the same product in different parts of the face can help create a more cohesive look.
if you're new to eyeliner, don't start with liquid eyeliner. use black eyeshadow or a pencil and clean up the edge of wing with your nail. it'll be super sharp.
don't be afraid to use your hands. you can use your hands in lieu of so many make up tools. your hands warm up the product and help it blend more seamlessly, and they are very precise. just make sure to wash your hands before touching your face.
always have a darker neutral lipliner or lipstick (i like a good brown) that you can pair with other lip products to make them work for you .
i know its hard to get started with a makeup routine in this world of tiktok makeup influencers that make you feel like you need 50 products in order to start doing make up, but you don't need all that. start by figuring out why you want to start doing makeup. maybe it's because you want to feel more confident, and you think accentuating certain parts of your face will help you feel that way. maybe you want to be more creative, and use makeup as another accessory for your look. maybe you just want to take care of your face. whatever it is, make your routine work for you. take it one step at a time. this is something you have to build up to, so take it slow and figure it out as you go. trust yourself. you got this. ;)
#makeup influencers are not the reality guys#look at your mother she wears eyeliner and same shade of lipstick every day that is more realistic#makeup is meant to make you feel better not stress you out#makeup#lipstick#makeup advice#makeup of tumblr#makeup is art

Hey!! Can you do 1 and 5 for Vivian and 8 for El?
Sure! 1. What is the character’s go-to drink order? Vivian doesn't drink liquor much. He might be persuaded to share a single glass of wine with his husband, but he learned early on that alcohol and magic--as a precaution--are better off not mixed. So he's a tea drinker instead. He mostly goes for herbal blends, but he likes matcha green tea too. As for the herbal stuff, there's always chamomile tea in the house. It helps the boys sleep, and Viv is partial to it. He also likes any citrus ones, like lemon and orange spice. 5. What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances?
Oooh, this is a good one and requires some thinking. Especially when Viv doesn't like to publicly cry and he holds back even in private. There is a point where he cries in a future chapter (a little bit), but before that? Hmmm... So Graham can get sick, and occasionally, he hasn't fared well. I imagine there was a point where he was bedridden years before the current events of the story--some illness that seemed worse than usual. It probably required antibiotics and allowing a doctor into the house. He cried at his husband's bedside and held his hand. He does love him, even if he's rubbish at showing it sometimes. 8. Describe the place where they sleep. This is such a cute thought, thank you for asking this one! El has a double bed. Graham designed it alongside El. It has been painted robin's egg blue! He has a quilt made of various white and pastel colors, most of his cotton and linen sheet sets are light blue or pink, and he has a few wool blankets that are either green or yellow. He sleeps with a polar bear. It's been through a few washings and isn't quite white anymore, and Vivian has had to add some patches where it is worn down. It is missing an eye (Viv gave it surgery so that it won't lose stuffing, although he did plump it up with more before mending it), and has a light blue eyepatch. His set of nightstands matches the bed, as does the dresser. He got the whole bedroom set custom made by his daddy, and Graham loves going the extra mile. The bookcase is painted to match, but it has a basic design because it is buried in books. The nightstands have matching lamps with blue bases and cream shades. He has a little wooden box he made--with a wood stain--that has a sliding lid, and he puts a cotton handkerchief in there for cleaning his glasses, which are also stored inside. It has silly little patterns engraved on it. Swirls and the like. His bookcase holds only his favorites. Everything else goes downstairs in the main library. Little trinkets he has collected over the years decorate the shelves in front of the books. That includes an ammonite fossil he collected, as well as little presents his family has made him. His rug is blues and cream with fractal patterns. He has a desk for reading and studying, and it's basic much like the bookshelf. It's fairly small. It has another lamp, this one silver with a blue lampshade. He has collected lots of little boxes to sort out his pens and pencils neatly inside the desk drawers. The chair that goes with it is also made by Graham, who went a bit fancier and painted it to match the room. It has an upholstered seat (blue) that has had to be patched a few times and also reupholstered entirely once. I keep imagining he has a few old stuffed animals on the bookshelf's top, along with a few on the dresser--places Beau can't reach, or he'd steal them. Most of them don't match any actual animals... For some reason, I imagine him as a small child, drawing his own weird monsters and Vivian making the plushies to match the images. El has a closet, unlike Howie and Beau, who both have wardrobes. (They had a choice, and both of them decided that small wardrobes packed with clothes couldn't possibly hold monsters, but closets? No thank you! They'll pass on the monster den.) El doesn't have anything under his bed, for that matter. The same cannot be said of his brothers. :')

the Laptop I've ALWAYS Wanted! This is the year that Windows laptops finally stop suckingWe saw some good devices from Intel, some really nice devices from Qualcomm, but we were all waiting to see what AMD would bring with their new tech. So, we finally have an all-new chip from AMD inside an all-new laptop from Asus: the ZenBook S16. Now, the naming around this chip is God-awful as usual—they went with the AMD Ryzen ai9 HX 370. It's a terrible name, but there are two chips: the 370 at the top end and the base model, the 365. Both these chips have great performance, particularly the 370, and they are also very energy efficient.Design of the ZenBook S16This is a very thin device, measuring in at 12 to 13 mm thick depending on where you throw the caliper. Typically, when you have a design that is so thin for an x86 laptop, you just get bad performance. But because of this new chip, they enabled you to achieve good performance on this device while keeping it super thin. Despite its thinness, you still have two USB-C ports, an HDMI port, a USB-A port, and a full-sized SD card slot on the right side. Asus has done a good job in terms of the overall package.Top Finish and ColorsThe top finish of the laptop is something Asus calls a "Ser aluminum" finish—a typical terrible name from Asus. It's a ceramic polymer bonded to the top aluminum layer, supposed to make the surface a little bit harder. It almost feels like polished concrete or polished stone. The laptop comes in two colors: a dark gray, which looks nice if you don't like the cream color. Personally, I love the cream color—it looks sick!Unique Grill DesignThe design features a series of holes for the grill, with smaller holes inside the larger ones. This creates a very unique look. Larger holes might have been cheaper to produce and offered better airflow, but this design is slightly more spill-resistant because of the smaller holes. The ScreenThis laptop rocks a 16-inch OLED panel, and both models feature this panel. The screen is simply amazing in terms of image quality because it’s an OLED panel. It’s also very fast with a 120Hz refresh rate and a response time well under a millisecond. The color accuracy is on point, and it’s a touchscreen with pencil support. Some configurations include a pen in the box, while the base models do not. This is an awesome screen for any use.PerformanceI tested both the 365 chip and the HX 370 chip. On both devices, the default power setting is 17 watts, and if you bump it up to the highest performance mode, it’s at 28 watts. These chips can go up to 54 watts, but you’d need a thicker device to pull it off. Even at the lower power setting, you're getting really good performance because these are very energy-efficient chips. The heat output is low, and the fan noise is very quiet, which is the main reason why they’re able to keep this device so thin.Thermal Performance and GamingWhen they first showed me this device last May, I didn’t believe they’d be able to do it. I thought it was going to be too thin to deliver the expected performance of an AMD Ryzen chip. But they managed it, and it’s impressive. Inside, there’s a super-thin vapor chamber on top of the chip, some graphite sheets, and a pair of fans. This setup provides solid thermal performance for such a thin device, even in games. There are two different GPUs depending on the chip: the base chip, the 365, has a Radeon 880M, and the higher-tier chip has the 890M, which has more compute units. These are a noticeable step up from the previous generation of AMD's onboard GPUs. For light gaming, they are awesome, and for moderately demanding games, they are okay. But for serious gaming, you’ll need discrete GPUs from Nvidia or AMD.Video EditingThe HX 370, with its higher core count, is surprisingly good for video editing. If you need a portable device for editing, this will do the job better than expected. However, the keyboard does get warm during intense use. It’s not uncomfortably hot, but noticeable.
If they made the device a little thicker, they could have solved this issue.Keyboard and TrackpadThe keyboard itself is backlit nicely, and it’s very fast to type on, though it feels a bit shallow. The super-thin design necessitated this, but I wish they had made it one or two millimeters thicker for a more responsive feel and cooler keyboard. The trackpad is nice and big, centered because there’s no number pad on the side. However, the side controls for brightness and volume feel underbaked. I’d prefer accurate button controls over these sometimes unresponsive features.Speakers and BatteryThe speakers on the ZenBook S16 are very good. Asus has figured out how to do good speakers on laptops. The G14 and G16 gaming devices had killer speakers, and the S16 follows suit. It sounds better than the 15-inch MacBook Air but not as good as the 16-inch MacBook Pro.The battery is a 78Wh unit, taking up a big portion of the internal space. AMD chips have been known for long battery life, and this generation is even better. For light tasks like web browsing or checking emails, the ZenBook S16 will last a very long time.AI and NPUA lot of the marketing around this chip is about the NPU components, which can go up to 50 TOPS. However, there has yet to be a killer app or feature from Microsoft that utilizes the NPU in a way that makes it essential. This device, despite having a 50 TOPS NPU, is not a Co-Pilot Plus laptop—only the Snapdragon X Elite devices are. This might change over time, but for now, it’s just a regular laptop to Microsoft.PricingAt $1,399 for the base model, the ZenBook S16 is definitely priced as a premium product. The HX 370 model with more RAM is about $200 to $300 more. Whether you should buy it depends on your budget. There’s nothing else on the market right now that offers this kind of performance in such a thin device. It's priced high because it’s unique and offers premium aesthetics and performance. If you're on a tighter budget, waiting for other devices might be wise. They won’t be as nice, but they’ll be cheaper. Overall, the ZenBook S16 is very impressive, delivering more than expected. If you need a super-thin device, it won’t disappoint.Gadget Kings PRS: Your Go-To Phone Repair ShopBefore we wrap up, I want to give a shoutout to Gadget Kings PRS, the best phone repair shop around. Everything Starts with a Smokey Eye: The Foundation of Makeup Trends
From bold editorial looks to the girl-next-door simplicity, if you dive deep into the essence of most eye makeup trends, you'll find that they all start with a smokey eye. Whether you're scrolling through Instagram, flipping through a fashion magazine, or binge-watching makeup tutorials, the smokey eye is a classic that never fades away.
A Brief History
Linda Cantello, an international makeup artist who was once with Gucci and is now associated with Armani, is often credited with the invention of the modern smokey eye. Linda changed the makeup game in the '80s with her revolutionary technique. Her approach to a smokey eye was to make it look "lived-in"—an intensely shaded, yet artfully messy application with a gradient that beautifully complemented a minimal face makeup look. What sets it apart is the seamless blending of shades, where one color effortlessly transitions into the next, with no harsh lines to give it away.
Breaking the Rules: The True Essence of a Smokey Eye
So, what are the cardinal rules for achieving a perfect smokey eye? Surprisingly, according to Linda Cantello, there are none! Unlike other makeup techniques that often come with a long list of dos and don'ts, a smokey eye is all about the art of diffusion, dimension, and a whole lot of blending. And while most tutorials might recommend sticking to greys and blacks, a smokey eye doesn't have to be restricted to these shades. You can go as colorful as you want—provided it looks sensual and suits your overall look.
Universality of the Smokey Eye
The true beauty of the smokey eye lies in its versatility—it's a one-size-fits-all approach that complements any eye shape. Whether you have almond-shaped eyes, hooded eyes, or even monolids, a well-executed smokey eye can enhance your natural features and make your eyes pop.
A Journey of Self-Discovery: My Own Experience
During the pandemic, as I sought creative avenues that required minimal screen time, my path led me back to makeup, and naturally, to mastering the smokey eye. I began my journey with just an eye pencil (the Feline eye kohl from MAC) and a blending brush (219s brush), casually scribbling along the lower lash line. As I grew more comfortable, I added intensity to the corners or wherever my mood dictated—because, after all, makeup is an expression of mood.
Next, I incorporated a transition eyeshadow to blend things out. This shade acts like a mediator that merges other colors and adds depth. From there, it was a hop, skip, and a jump to using liquid liner to bring out the intensity of the look. Over time, I experimented with various eyeshadow formulas, from mattes to shimmers and creams to liquids, discovering how to layer products to achieve the required dimension.
The Conclusion: Smokey Eye is the Starting Line
What I learned through my journey is that once you master the smokey eye, you've essentially cracked the code to most eye makeup trends. It’s the foundation upon which you can build, layer, and experiment. And while it may look complex, it’s a fairly straightforward technique. Practice indeed makes perfect. So, the next time you're looking to try a new eye makeup trend, remember: it all starts with a smokey eye.
