What's this au that watcher/vex art was similar to? Tell me all the things? -🎀

It’s less of an au and more of just an idea for a start of something? Either way~

It begins with young Watcher-in-training Grian fleeing from the Watchers, finding refuge in a cave that draws him in with some kind of powerful magical aura. He hopes it can mask his trace.

Unfortunately for him, it’s the home of a large, monstrous vex (Scar). He’s very feral and scraggly looking, and he has some awful magic-locked cage muzzle/gag on, leaving his teeth constantly bared and preventing him from speaking. (It doesn't make him safe by any means; he still has claws and various weapons of past attackers scattered around.)

But he’s not attacking Grian. Not yet. Not on sight. He mostly just...watches with narrowed slitted eyes, waiting for something that doesn’t seem to be coming. 

Grian is frightened, has no weapon, and he’s significantly smaller. The vex should be able to take him down easily.

So eventually they reach this sort of neutral state of neither of them moving any closer. Grian creeps along the walls and eventually, slowly, settles himself down to sit to rest his poor shaking legs. Scar stares for a moment longer, then also sits, still watching.

Grian figures maybe as long as he doesn’t provoke this beast, he’ll be safe.

(And it's true. Scar is used to people coming in here to steal and demand to make deals with him. Grian clearly didn't mean to be here though. But he's keeping a watchful eye. He doesn't trust it.)

Eventually, Grian thinks maybe the vex is asleep. So he takes this time to meditate. His real eyes close, and hee opens his Eyes to try to determine if the Watchers are on his trail yet, reaching out as far as he can to Look.

When he opens his real eyes again, Scar is directly in front of him, staring more curiously, sort of like he’s wondering if his intruder just died whilst sitting up straight.

Grian yelps and bonks his head on the wall trying to scramble backward.

But Scar also yelps (although muffled) and flails back as well.

And despite everything... Grian can’t help but laugh at that? Because why is he startled? 

Now that he’s closer, though, he can make out the Watcher’s symbol on the lock of the cage on Scar’s head. And being spiteful of anything the Watchers might do, he reaches out without even really thinking about it. 

Scar freezes.

He lets Grian touch the trap around him, but he still doesn't know for sure this isn’t an elaborate trick? Something to get close and take him down? It would have been Grian's only way of winning, truly. So Scar places a clawed hand close to Grian's neck. He's slow and soft with the touch, but it’s undeniably threatening. If Grian was going for some kind of trap here, surely he'd flinch back?

But Grian swallows nervously and tries his best to reassure the vex that he wants to help.

And, eventually, Scar removes his hand and cranes his head to help Grian look at the contraption, also baring his neck, tentatively trusting.

Grian breaks the seal and slooooowly pulls the thing off of Scar, and oh Scar is so happy.

He grins, big and toothy (full of sharp edges, but it's still so oddly charming?) and grabs Grian to spin him excitedly.

He speaks now, (and oh if his voice isn't also so charming) and he lifts Grian up, looks up at him, lips far too close. "Oooh my gosh, I swear I could kiss you right now!" he exclaims, but he doesn't, a shame, really, and instead puts Grian back down and just starts excitedly introducing himself.

In this case, Vexes have like unlimited magical potential. But they are limited by only being able to use it under the direction of someone else. (thinking like how evokers summon them and direct them) The catch is, vexes are tricky creatures. They can and will warp your instructions to their liking if you leave any room for loopholes or leeway. That’s part of the reason Scar was gagged. To prevent him from swindling you into a bad deal.

So normally Scar would do whatever he could to bend the rules and screw over his master, but he’s so overwhelmingly happy at being freed that he says to Grian, “Anything you want! It’s yours. Anything at all, no tricks, no nothing.” And he means it, too.

And that’s all I really came up with! Like I said, just a beginning.

I think Grian should ask about that kiss.

basically what the title says, you draw the arcane characters à la hyperpigmentation 😍 i needed smth silly to work on to get me out of my writing rut, hope you enjoy :p

content: gn!reader, reader is their partner (could be seen as platonic/child reader but i think most of, if not all, the hcs allude or explicitly call reader their partner - sorry!)

Jinx

she LOVES it

as an artist, engineer, overall creator she can really appreciate the more wacky expressions of art

she does a whole art critique (barely a critique tbh) and pretends to be some stuffy piltie talking about the genius and emotion behind the artwork

“ya know, toots, i’m reaaallyyyy enjoying what ya did with that…um, splodge? on my face there. yeah!”

she draws her own version but this time it’s a portrait of you

you swap them and have a cute little date where you colour the pictures in together and add details in the background

by the end, jinx’s workshop is covered in glue and glitter and paint and powder and also for some reason silly string

jinx even makes frames from scratch so they can be hung up - they’re probably the most nicely presentee decoration she has in her place

Ekko

you slide the portrait of him over to his side of the table in silence

he looks down absently and has to do a double take

“this is…me?” he asks hesitantly with his eyes widened like a deer in headlights; a look you rarely ever see from him - you nod and confirm his fears

“we have one tree down here. paper’s expensive. remember that.”

walks away and goes about his duties helping the firelights and though you suspect he might be upset, he did take the picture with him

feels so guilty about his reaction he almost sacks himself into a wall as he rides his hover board

later that night he apologises and makes a show of sticking the picture on his bedroom wall (in the corner he can barely see of course)

Vi

she’s been in prison and seen some interesting tattoos but this takes the cake

spends a good ten minutes staring at it whilst rubbing her chin as if that’s gonna make it look better

asks you if this was the rough draft

she’s smooth though so she basically tells you she hates it but in a way that you don’t even realise - you’re too busy being seduced to notice

“i love how wild your imagination is babe 😍”

vi keeps the picture and shows jinx; needless to say, this portrait becomes famous

kids all through the lanes have a challenge where they find all the weird faces jinx spray painted everywhere

vi pretends to act dumb as if she doesn’t know how jinx got ahold of them but you both know what happened LMAO

she laughs in your face

she probably just had an argument with her mum over being an enforcer so she really needed this to lighten her spirits

teases you over it but accepts it gracefully because she’s a kiramman and those manners have been engrained into her

keeps it in her room as a joke and everything’s seemingly ok

except she can’t stop looking at it

and then looking at her reflection in the mirror

starts to question reality because she knows there’s no way she looks like that but if so, why would you draw it in the first place 😭

then she enters the mad stage and she confronts you about this thing called negging she discovered

it’s a loooooong night but don’t worry it ends in lots of laughter and giggles

she understands it wasn’t serious and was just projecting her stress onto the picture

but then this starts a new tradition where you two draw daily doodles of each other; sometimes with stupid faces, other times as animals, whatever you two are feeling really

the woman was too stunned to speak

no, she’s literally speechless for a good minute or two as you hold it out for her

she eventually takes the portrait from your hands but does it in a way where you’d think it was going to explode the second she touches it

she tries her best to smile and be graceful about it, years of etiquette training being tested but even this is a bit excessive

she finds a way to dodge actually having to tell you it looks bad but also dodges telling you that it looks good too - she’s a lot of things but she’s not a liar 😭

she’s incredibly diplomatic

the very next day she’s introducing you to an absolutely fabulous painter who just happened to make an impromptu visit but has just enough time to run a session (or multiple) with you!

how serendipitous is this!

never again will she receive a portrait from you like hyperpigmentation

you handed this to him in the busy academy building in front of SOOO many people and now his face is red

his teeth are gritted, hand rubbing the back of his neck and if you look closely there’s even beads of sweat dripping down his forehead

you’ve got this man stressed out

takes like 20 minutes trying to tell you that he’s not too sure if this is exactly his style

internally he’s crying for help because he just wants to get out of this situation

he loves you don’t get it wrong but this has never happened to him before and it’s not like they’ve got a guidebook on this stuff

eventually admits defeat and accepts the portrait

it’s probably in the break room and although he isn’t particularly fond of it, he won’t stand for anyone saying mean things about what you made

that is until you tell him it was all a joke in the first place and you never thought he would actually accept it considering how shitty it was

yeah, he allowed everyone a ten minute free for all where they could slander the picture after that

he is gonna give you silent treatment for all of an hour before he can’t stand it anymore and he asks you not to pull pranks like that on him again with tears in his eyes 😭

viktor is chronically ill AND chronically overworked

gonna be real, he sees the portrait and doesn’t even think anything of it

like, he’s so sleep deprived that he’s constantly squinting and so to him, it low-key looks like him

you even got his beauty mark right too! most people forget that detail!

it’s only after a good few weeks of having the picture on his bedside table and actually, finally, getting eight hours of sleep that he properly looks at the picture and

who the fuck is that

but at this point it’s too late, it’s already in a frame next to the bed you two share and there’s no way he can discretely get rid of it without you noticing

stages an accident where his cane “accidentally” happens to slip and somehow punt the picture frame right out the window with surprising accuracy

he gives you those puppy dog eyes and tells you how sad he is but that he’ll survive so don’t worry!

can’t even feel guilty about the situation because the moment the portrait is gone he stops having nightmares

another one who is speechless

if you were anyone else, he would’ve berated you so badly you would want to quit by the end of it

unfortunately you’re someone he loves so he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place

the thing is, he really does appreciate that you went through the effort of drawing a picture of him since it reminds him that perhaps his love isn’t as one-sided as he fears

so he really does want to have it framed and put up on his desk so he can stare at it whenever he misses you

the problem is that even though one of his eyes is fucked up he can still see how butt ugly the drawing is

plus the fact that if he has meetings his business associates are gonna see it and that’s gonna be a tough one to explain

rather not lose out of business because his partner decided to be picasso for a day

silco ends up compromising by having you draw a teeny tiny version he keeps in his wallet instead :3

the bigger version stays in a locked compartment of his desk drawer, he doesn’t want to risk sevika seeing it

vander does NOT care what it looks like, he loves it

you could literally scribble on a page, say “that’s you” and he’s tearing up at your thoughtfulness

it’s going on the fridge asap and it’s staying there too

he’s gonna show it to everyone with such pride in his voice

sure, he doesn’t know exactly what he’s looking at and maybe you drew his body hair a bit liberally but you made it so that’s good enough for him!

when he shows it off, most people say aww what a cute werewolf and ask how old his kid is

the light leaves their eyes when he tells them, chest puffed out, that his fully grown adult partner did it and that it’s actually a portrait of him

whether you made it as a joke or not, expect all of your friends, your friend’s friends, those friend’s friend’s friends…everyone to have seen it

sevika is an incredibly considerate partner so now she knows you like art, she takes it upon herself to buy colouring books and art journals that you two can fill out together

this is how you find out she’s a god at drawing and you find it sweet how she takes you under her wing

if something’s bad she’ll tell you but it will always be constructive criticism and before you know it your portraits actually look decent

she’s smug knowing she helped you get to that point

little do you know she kept your abhorrent portrait of her and she looks at it every so often to see how far you’ve come

she’s a softie deep down

Thank you! Yeah, Silver is a cutie pie, as always lol Sebek should wear that hoodie with pride! He is closer to his beautiful waka-sama with those little horns on his hood.

I love these hoodies a lot; they are from that one drawing that Yana did of Diasomnia boys going to a movie theater. Katsu and I both are so obsessed with it; they look so adorable wearing those! I wish Yana did more sketches with characters hanging out like that, but of course I am grateful for everything she already does…

So your art tutorial is living in my head rent free and it’s really helping me with drawing Sunstreaker in general (he is my besides Wheeljack) and I was wondering do you have any times with drawing transformers from like different angles??? I’m having difficulty with that even with references.

I’m looking through my photos for a picture of how I draw them at different angles (jokes on myself I’m terrible at taking pictures of stuff in the process) and here’s what I found as well as some very scattered thoughts. This might be kinda long…

I will be honest and admit that this is smth I am still working on myself.

Here’s a really sad in the process sketch a drawing I did a bit ago. Here’s a link to the finished thing. Please ignore all of my comments on it….

I usually will try to look at human references for the pose and the general idea mostly stays the same. You just need to think a bit more about depth when making your shapes. If that makes sense?

It’s a lot of the same concepts as before with how you build the body and add the details.

Here’s some line art from an old sketch of a character I never finished.

Theres a lot of 3 dimensional stuff on it, and to be honest…. It’s far from perfect. But theres a good chunk of overlapping that can help with making it have more depth. I’d recommend working on studying 3D shapes to help with different angles and if you want to get more detailed with that.

Another thing I recommend (though I don’t perfectly execute it) is avoiding tangent lines. When two lines sit close to each other, they almost line up or they just barely touch, it can make the depth feel weird. It also can clutter the design. There are a lot of those in my drawing and it’s kinda weird ngl.

Once again. I still struggle with them so…. Yeah.

But if your more like me and doing a bunch of 3D shapes is a lot of work for one sketch (why I stopped drawing like that for the most part) then you don’t really have to make everything look like 3D. You just trick people into seeing it.

With sideswipe I only add a few lines to give it depth. I mentally map out (or draw it in the sketch layer) the dimensions to stuff. There are still some things that are awkward in it, but it generally works.

I am doing terrible job at explaining this my goodness. I’m so sorry.

I did absolutely nothing with trying to give the shapes depth. Instead I just worked on how things would overlap and how the angle affects it. Instead of making the upper arm long it gets shorter and wider because of the angle—stuff like that.

I’ll admit that I just do a bunch of guessing and winging it. I also accept that it’s not going to be perfect and move on. I’ll make small comments to myself and if I can’t fix it after several tries I continue with my life. Most people won’t see it and getting caught on small things like that can get frustrating quickly.

I feel like I’m rambling and not being very helpful.

I can try to make a more helpful version of this if you want I’ll just have to think about it for a couple days so I understand my own process. But I didn’t want you to be ignored.

13. What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day?

From what I can remember, I've never made any official Sonilver drawings; I did doodle a bit of the two of them today, though! But any full-fledged drawings or silly comics like I've done with Espio and Silver before, I haven't yet done for them. I'd definitely be open for it, but first I need to figure out how Sonic's stupid top-most quill works when drawn in the Sonic X style😩 (I keep making it too big lol)

14. Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you've changed your mind?

Hmm, none of them pop to mind so quickly... I've written an AU Sonilver fic for a friend before, and years ago also one wherein they celebrated Christmas, so it's not a ship I'm surprised I've begun liking more, haha. And as for Espilver: the reason New Beginnings became an Espilver fic was because a friend encouraged me to, but I was privy to the ship before that and I liked it as well (just not as much as I do now XD). But other than that, I think not really!🍀

6. Show us a bit of a WIP!

I've been fighting for my life trying to get out a second chapter of Change of Heart. I need to do more with Sonic and Silver making up way earlier in '06👀👀 I've got almost everything worked out plot-wise, but it involves what's kind of A Fight Scene, and those are not my forte. So it might go into a few more rounds of editing first!

“We did it,” Sonic smiles.

Quietly Silver stares at the grandiose window placed in the even more grandiose white walls of the princess’ palace. Yes, they did do it: Elise talking to more people crowding together than Silver has ever seen in his life is the testimony to that. Palpable relief resounds in the voices rising from the group, the princess herself nodding and getting fussed over and altogether drowning in the sea of attention. “I’m glad we did,” the blue hedgehog besides him adds, more pensively himself.

“Hm,” is all Silver responds with. There’s too many people here… and yet, though a part of him had expected Sonic would have loved mingling between them, the speedster had taken mere seconds to join him in this quiet corner of the massive hallway just outside the room Elise is in.

Green eyes look him up and down, Silver glaring back. “It’s busy, huh?” the other muses, gesturing to a half-opened door all the way at the end of the hall. “Let’s go to the terrace, get some fresh air.” And with that he’s already bounced off, Silver grimacing as he drags himself towards the exit as well. If anything, Sonic’s sheer inability to not do everything fast had been beyond exhausting, if comforting in a way. They hadn’t dawdled a single second this whole adventure, and Silver can’t help but appreciate it. Their efforts have paid off, after all.

As Silver shambles onto the balcony Sonic’s already leaning over a barrier equally ornate as the rest of the palace, the blue sky stretching out in an endless expanse above them. Quietly the grey hedgehog joins him, eyes drifting over it all. The orange of the setting sun, the peach of the clouds, the way Soleanna glimmers underneath it all…

Now Elise gets to enjoy it again too, after everything that had happened, and he cannot tear his eyes away from it either.

“How are you doing?” Sonic speaks up first, over the waves that crash into the island and the distant mutters of the town far underneath them that the wind carries up. Silver can only shrug back; he has no idea anymore. But the blue hedgehog merely smiles, as if he understands. “It’s been quite the trip. But a fun one too, right?”

“Fun,” Silver huffs back. How could it have been fun, with the safety of the whole world and Elise’s life being the things they had to protect?

And yet, he had been amused with Sonic. Rarely, but he had. And he had laughed, just once or twice too, at something particularly funny occurring or being brought up. And he had marvelled at the world and all its beauty, and Sonic had been there to tell him about it all, and they had saved a person…

Which means the conditions Silver had set have been met.

Turning around slowly Silver swallows. This is it; this is what he’s been working towards. “I need to go back to the future,” he speaks up, “but first…”

“First part with me as unlikely acquaintances and maybe even friends?” Sonic smiles- before it falls right away as Silver bares his teeth.

“No. I am going to kill you.”

Q/A:

why a time loop au blog? Why not just make a normal blog? because I’m built differently. I found it be be a fun idea. I was laying in bed scrolling through Tumblr and I saw everyone else having a hell of a lot of fun doing this, so I thought of ways to make my blog a bit different and a bit more fun for me. So made a list and this was the one that stood out the most to me!

what were the other blog ideas? A pre-captain curly when he was a copilot of another ship, a swap Au, a sea captain AU, and an AU where Jimmy still crashes the ship but gets locked inside of the cockpit. Curly getting slightly injured trying to stop/save him.

does your curly have other blogs that are a part of his crew? no. It’s kinda hard to do that and I wouldn’t wanna drag people in this AU with me if it’s almost impossible to keep up with the looping and other stuff, maybe if I used the og concept of a week-long loop cycles. But idk man I’m having fun like this

curly’s backstory? he grew up with a little sister, a mom, and a dad. He’s a child of divorced parents but they split amicably. He met Jimbo in 6th grade when Jimbob was the new kid who moved into the neighbourhood curly’s mom and dad set Curly up to meet the new guy. Leading to them being friends. Curly after high school graduated early and skipped a grade. Went to college and got a scholarship from Pony Express if he worked for them as an intern. He took it finished all his classes and his job was sealed. After 8 years of work, he finds Jimmy again. Jimmy is homeless and at the bottom of his rope. Curly trying to be a good friend, offers Jimmy a place to sleep and a job. 2 years later he’s on the tulpar as a captain for his last run.

any hc you like from other people?

Jimmy waited to help them look for Curly after the crash, hoping that it was either too late or just enough damage for Curly to not be able to bounce back. (I LOVE THE DAISUKE ISEKAI >v< )

Why does he have so much coffee on him, didn’t they run out? yes, I’m aware they ran out of coffee, in my HC. In Curly’s bag, he was allowed by the express to bring 4 extra packets of coffee for emergencies to keep himself awake (why he has them on him) he has an infinite loop of coffee packets due to him having them in his pockets during the crash and physic evaluations(the soft lock spot and beginning of the loop). Due to this, the loop causes his supply to reappear since he had them on hand during the two hotspots so it’s now a part of Curly’s person,

does the time loops have any side effects? Other than recking him mentally

yes, the time loops can lead to phantom pains, nightmares, shaky limb, (semi permanent) exhaustion, occasional damage to joint and small fractures in bones if something occurs that would break a bone. if he died in a way that’s painful. He’ll restart the loop in agony.

if he live long enough in the loop and dies as an old man it can lead to temporary memory loss (best fate for this dude :( ). Most of the physical pain will disappear and dissipate after a few days.

i got an ask about advice for writing when you're discouraged, so i thought i'd make a post addressing some of the points because i think this is something that everyone has gone through and can relate to. most of this is just what's helped me/what i'd tell myself in the past, but if anyone has advice to add on please feel free! i hope this helps at least a little bit, anon!

"I’m not good at (dialogue/atmosphere/prose/etc)."

write it anyways! one of the best ways to build a skill is to keep doing it. even if you don't ever post it, or only share it with a few friends, or just read it to your pets, or whatever you choose to do, it's better to write something "badly" than to not write at all. or even asking for help on how to improve from other writers. i struggle a lot with atmosphere and scenery, and something that helped me a lot was talking to other writers whose fics i really enjoy and inspire me. i know it may seem intimidating, but there are plenty of writers on tumblr that would love to talk about how they compose their scenes, their dialogue, anything and everything if someone asks.

"I can’t make moodboards/headers/aesthetic posts."

the good news is, you don't have to! fics don't have to have anything other than the fic itself. i can't speak for everyone, but while aesthetics may get my attention, it's the person behind the blog that i stay for. if you want your blog or your fics to have a pretty aesthetic, it shouldn't be because you feel forced to but because you want to do it. if you don't find making moodboards or headers or aesthetic posts fun, then you don't have to do them. and if you want to, but don't know how, there are a ton of resources, links, and blogs dedicated to helping on tumblr.

"I’m not at (insert someone else)’s writing level."

and you might never be, and that's okay! every writer is different - they have different styles, write at different paces, perceive their skill differently. basing your progress on someone else's isn't going to help because you're not them. you have your own time, energy, ability, and ideas, you'll grow and improve at your own pace, just like they did. don't force yourself to try and follow the same timeline of someone else, and don't put yourself down because you're getting better - and you are getting better - at your own pace.

"I can’t find the motivation to write."

honestly same. i think it's a pretty universal experience to lose motivation for something you were excited about at one point. sometimes the vibes aren't it and the story doesn't want to story, but that's alright. it can be hard to stay motivated, and what gets someone inspired again is different everyone. i can't give advice for anything outside of what's helped me, but a few ways i've re-motivated myself to write something are: making a fic playlist, stepping away from the fic for a day or two, giving it to a friend to read, re-watching/reading the source material, doodling fic ideas, and skipping to a different part of the story.

"I can’t write fast enough."

unless it's for something like work where you have a fixed deadline, there is no "fast enough" in writing. don't let anyone tell you otherwise. when i first started writing, in the very early days of ao3 and tumblr, fic updates could takes months or even more than a year and that was fine! one of my favorite fics took a six year hiatus, and that didn't diminish any of the enjoyment i had when it came back. you are not a machine, you're a human being with needs outside of writing. it's always okay if you need to take a break, if there's a long wait between chapters, or if you want to stop a project altogether and come back to it six years later. if someone gives you grief because you can't write within their time-frame then they're not worth having as a reader - do not overwork yourself for the sake of finishing a fic.

"It’s hard to stick to one idea at a time."

then don't! write all the ideas. write every single one. working on a project and you have a drabble that you just keep thinking about? write it. you get a sudden idea for a one-shot in a different fandom? write it. woke up in the mood to start a new five-chapter fic? write it. you can start or stop writing about anything at any time. there is no rule that you have to stick to one idea and finish it before you can write anything else, don't make yourself stick to something if it's not what you want to write, and don't punish yourself if you need to take a break from your current project.

"Maybe I’m not made for writing on tumblr."

tumblr is a shitposting website that barely works at the best of times. half of my drafts get deleted every other week for no reason - there is no way to be "made for writing on tumblr"! but tumblr is huge, there's a bajillion communities on here that would be so excited to have another writer, and a ton that are solely dedicated to helping writers and providing different resources. i guarantee there is someone on this website that will love and adore your writing.

"The things I read are better than anything I can write/comparing myself to other writers."

i don't have the cake picture saved, but we all know the gist of it: the audience (generally) isn't going to care about how decorated your cake is compared to another, they're just happy to get two cakes. and that's really all it is. your fic might not be the same preferred flavor as the audience of other writers, but there is someone out there who's going to enjoy it. i won't tell you to just not compare yourself to others, i know that's not how it works, but what has helped me is changing the way i view other fics. instead of thinking "i wish i could write like this person", i look at like "this inspires me to improve my writing". and don't get me wrong, i still have moments of doubt about my writing compared to some of the people i read, i don't think that will ever really stop, but the best thing you can do is not let yourself give in to that feeling. try and stop that train of thought before it leaves the station. no one else can write the way you can. no one else can tell your stories the way you can. no one else has the same voice as you do. if everyone wrote the same way, everything would be boring. the heart of a fic is seeing the author's personality shine through it. if you see someone write a good fic, that doesn't mean yours won't be. you have to give yourself a chance even when you feel like your writing won't be as good as someone else's. you have to bake your cake anyway.

"How do I find joy in something I know I’ll never be good at?"

you won't. full stop. if you keep telling yourself you'll never be good at something, you'll never improve, there's no point in trying, then you'll never enjoy it. i know it's easier said than done, but you have to have some level of confidence in yourself and in your writing. not only will you not enjoy it, other people will see the lack of enjoyment, the "i wrote this and it sucks" comments, the self-degradation, and they won't enjoy it either - no one feels good about a fic the author clearly didn't want to write. and, if you try everything you possibly can and still can't find any joy in writing, then maybe writing isn't the hobby for you. and that's perfectly okay! i tried quilting and glassblowing several times before i realized i just didn't like it the same way i liked writing. you owe it to yourself to find something that's fun, that makes you smile, that you're excited to do. there's a million hobbies out there, i promise you'll find something that brings you joy.

Whumptober Day 23: Stalking

Day 23! Another one that was giving me some trouble until I finally settled into a rhythm! This one is a bit clunky at some points, but I think it's fine. If anything it just adds to the charm!

There was something following him.

But Jay couldn’t figure out what it was.

After having a hellish last night and needing some sort of distraction, he had only been sent on a simple grocery store run, just for a few items for Zane to make for dinner, and it wasn’t supposed to take more than an hour at most. Staying on the phone with Nya the whole time definitely added to his time, but it was necessary unless the team wanted Jay to come back with the most random shit in the store instead of the actual groceries. Crossing things off of the paper list that Zane printed out for him, Jay also made sure to tell Nya when he got an item, where she would then cross it off on her own list to mitigate his habit of doodling on the paper.

Sue him, he got bored and needed something to do with his hands.

Now, two hours later, Jay finally started to walk home with all of the required items (and a can of cream cheese frosting that he and Nya were going to share), and this was supposed to be the easiest leg of the journey after the ADHD hell known as grocery shopping on a budget.

Jay didn’t comment on the footsteps that seemed to follow him for the past two blocks, instead only keeping one ear open for them and listening to Nya with the other. The grocery trip had done wonders for keeping his anxiety down at the moment. Stepping in the puddles littering the sidewalk made him antsy, but at least it made listening out for the footsteps a little easier. Nya was complaining about Kai, saying something about how much room his hair gel was taking up in the bathroom and how he was being a shower-hog. If Jay wasn’t preoccupied then he most likely would’ve been joining in.

“--can you believe that?! You take up three whole shelves of the bathroom cabinet for your stupid hair products but it’s my problem because I have too much skin care stuff?! Ugh!”

“That’s awful,” Jay agreed. He learned a long time ago how to do the verbal smile and nod trick with Nya, and he hoped that she would never pick up on it.

“Right? I can’t even deal with him. I ought to throw his hair gel straight off the side of the Bounty.”

“But we both know that you won’t,” the footsteps behind him changed, and Jay’s lungs tightened when he realized that the stranger had stepped off the street and into an alley. That wasn’t good.

He needed to switch up his route a bit. It would take longer, but that was fine; at least the stranger shouldn’t be able to follow him across the street without him noticing.

Crossing was easy, and Jay made sure to go over as many puddles as possible so that the person would have no choice but to make noise. Noise was good, because noise was going to keep him safe, and Jay was great at making noise. As long as he kept Nya talking, then he should be okay.

That didn’t mean it was good for his anxiety though. Walking around Ninjago City at night never scared him when he was in uniform, but when he was walking in his civvies? Not a great feeling. Someone really had to talk to the mayor about getting the bulbs in the streetlamps replaced, because every other one was out and Jay found himself almost sprinting to make it to each one. And to make it even worse, he didn’t bring any of his weapons with him.

Nya didn’t pick up on his inner distress when the footsteps picked back up, right back behind him like nothing happened. “Yeah, I guess I won’t. But he’s on thin fucking ice.”

“And being the master of fire doesn’t help,” Jay always made stupid puns when he was nervous.

“Jay,” Nya sighed, and despite everything that was going on it still made Jay feel a bit better.

The footsteps grew closer, and Jay was tempted to just throw the groceries on the ground and sprint away. Surely the others would understand once they heard his reasoning, right? But Jay knew that he couldn’t do that, both because Zane might actually say something unkind to him and Cole might kick his ass for ruining dinner, and Jay didn’t want to ruin dinner.

Step. Step. Step. Step.

Stomp. Stomp.

Stomp?

People needed to come with built-in rearview mirrors, and Jay was kicking himself for staying on the phone with Nya; if he had his phone free, he could’ve used his camera to check behind him and see who the hell was following him. Who the two people were, actually.

“Okay, Walker,” Jay mumbled, low enough that Nya wouldn’t hear it over her rambling, “you can do this. Just gotta get a little creative.”

If he took this next side street, made a left, crossed again up there and then ducked behind that one weird building that no one ever liked to walk past…

Yeah, he could make this work.

He was fairly sure that the only reason he wasn’t being jumped yet was because he was on the phone, and he needed to keep it that way. “Nya?”

“What’s up?” Nya asked, finally stopping whatever she was saying about Kai and giving him her full attention. Jay’s anxiety must’ve bled into his voice.

Turning left, Jay tucked himself closer to the buildings on his side, hoping that they might help him to hide away and blend into the background. Maybe he could try that cool thing people do in the movies where they shed their jacket and it’s like they’re a whole new person. Would that actually work? “I think I’m being followed. I need you to keep track of my location and pick me up at the corner of Avenue and Lint.”

Avenue was such a stupid street name, and whichever dryer company sponsored the creation of Lint Street needed to be banished to the Cursed Realm. Jay was quick to tell Nya this information, mostly because he didn’t want his pursuers to know that he was calling for help. Also because his anxiety was making him blurt the first thing that popped into his mind.

The grocery bags were getting harder to hold onto as his palms started to slick with sweat, and Jay tightened his grip and picked up the pace. Plastic digging into his fingers, Jay vaguely thought about whether or not the grocery bags could cut into his fingers, and maybe he could make a joke out of it.

“Hey,” he said, “do you think that if the bags were heavier, I would eventually start bleeding?”

“You know that’s not funny,” and yet Jay could hear the smile playing on Yang’s lips, because it was the kind of ridiculous question that only he would ask. “Alright, we’re on our way. Think you can make it there in ten?”

“Ten? What do you take me for? I’ll make it five.”

“If you make it five then you’re going to be early.”

“Shit, seriously?” Jay snickered despite the situation. “Well, you know me. Punctual is my middle name. Tell Cole that he better have twenty bucks ready for me.”

Something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye as he passed one of the alleys: a third person. Man, tall, long coat and a hat covering his face, watching for when Jay crossed the mouth of the alley, and Jay saw him move after him. Now there were three of them on his tail, and the shadows between the streetlamps were stretching longer and longer out. These people knew what they were doing.

This was only more apparent to Jay when a fourth figure stepped out in front of him to block his way.

Gotta change course again. “Change of plans, might be there in ten minutes after all,” Jay ground out, taking a deep breath and turning abruptly to walk across the street. He really hoped that a car wasn’t going to come barreling down this road.

“How many are after you?” Nya asked, alarmed. Jay felt the same way.

“Four, I think. They’re trying to box me in.”

He heard the sound of keys clacking; Nya must’ve relocated to the main control room. “Hold on, I’m pulling up the security cameras so I can track you.”

“Can’t you just see my location through your phone?” Jay asked, his heart hammering away in his chest. The anxiety from before was starting to wash over him again, threatening to pull him under and not let him back up. Nya must’ve picked up on some of it, as she was quick to start reassuring him as she sifted through Kai’s too many tabs to find the security feeds.

“I can, but I need to be able to see how many are following you,” she explained. “Aha! I see you. You were right, there’s four, and—”

She stopped talking, and Jay’s stomach dropped. “Nya? What is it?”

“Jay, please tell me you have a weapon or your suit.”

“I don’t have either, why?” Jay walked faster, and he knew that he was making himself look more and more suspicious. “Nya?”

“They have guns,” Nya said breathlessly, fingers flying over the keyboard. She sounded worried. “You may have to fight them.”

“Not when I have the groceries,” and he turned the corner much faster than he needed to. If the people following him didn’t realize that Jay was aware before, they definitely knew now.

“I don’t give a flying fuck about the groceries, I need you to get home,” Nya said tightly. “Whatever you do, do not hang up this phone. Stay on the line with me.”

“If I don’t bring the groceries back then Zane and Cole will actually kill me—”

“And I’ll kill them if they do that,” Nya growled. “Stay on the phone, be ready to drop everything and run if I tell you to.”

His anxiety was raging around in his chest like a caged animal. Jay felt his lightning start to flicker under his clothes, but he did his best to keep it contained. The mayor had asked very nicely that the Ninja not use their elements in the city when there wasn’t an emergency, and Jay didn’t think that this qualified as an emergency. Putting as much force into his steps as possible did little to alleviate the anxiety; Jay felt like he was caught in a free-fall with a broken parachute.

Just keep moving. He had to keep moving. As long as he stayed on the move, they couldn’t catch him.

“Why didn’t I bring the suit?” he muttered angrily. Rage boiled in his blood, both at himself and at these people who thought that they could take on one of the most skilled fighters in all of Ninjago.

More clicking and clacking. “Because you didn’t think that this was going to happen, and it was just supposed to be something to ease your mind. Don’t be upset with yourself,” Nya assured, but it did little to make Jay feel better.

The distance between the lights was getting farther and farther apart, and Jay was glad that he knew how to navigate his way through the shadows. It was a new light every hundred feet, and then two hundred, then three, and suddenly…

Suddenly there was no more light.

Whoever was doing this had sabotaged the rest of the streetlamps.

Every instinct in Jay’s body was screaming. He knew how to fight in the shadows, but he did not have the ability to fight right now. Hands seemed to form out of the darkness, reaching for him, and Jay veered away from them as best as he could while staying on the sidewalk.

It had been seven minutes. Three minutes left.

“What are you doing?” Nya asked. Jay forgot that she was still watching him.

K so translating my notes(cause my writing sucks) and then a breakdown of each doodle. This is just some ‘testing the waters’ doodles to see what ideas I like and what I don’t.

This isn’t actually finished yet, but I ended up loving the Sketchpage that I wanted to show, so here we are lol

“Lantern/light clan cult gang thing, tried to get Donnie to join by sending an oozesquito after him.”

So yeah, there’s a gang of moths that worship light and they wanted somebody smart in their ranks. They wanted Donnie to join because he was known all over the hidden city for his intelligence during the krang invasion. They uhh… They kinda kidnap him during a mission ig lol. He escapes but not before getting turned partially into a moth. They weren’t really as smart so they didn’t even think that maybe the mutation would only take partial transformation so uhhh mission failed-

“Tiny hairs as per many insects”

I liked your idea of the hairs that allow Donnie’s hands to stick to stuff, so it was kind of a no brainer to add that here too, since moths stick to stuff all the time.

“Common Crimson & Gold Moth (an attempt at keeping sorta purple colors)”

Yeah no, it’s more red and gold than anything but dang these things are pretty. Could be a nice design.

“Luna Moth (mostly here for the green, but an iconic moth too)”

Yeah, I wanted a nice green match for the wings as a potential option too, and I also figured when you think of moths, a lot of people think of Luna moths.

“White Ermine Moth (fluffy Dalmatian vibes)”

Kinda thrown in for the recognizable reason again, since a lot of people tend to think immediately of fluffy snowy white moths like white ermine moths or poodle moths.

I kinda like the first two a bit better tho, ngl.

Yeah, so, I had an idea where his eyes would invert so his eyes were black with white pupils, but I kinda dropped that idea, but then I picked it up again and thought maybe his eyes look more moth-like when really stressed or enraged or smth?

A stupid silly comic I made for an idea I had where Donnie starts out kinda like a moth caterpillar, looking and feeling normal, but the more days that go by the bigger his wings and antenna grow, becoming impossibly to hide, and he just can’t really pretend that he’s a full turtle anymore lol

Also definitely not motivated by me wanting to implement an idea about how apparently the reasons you get holes in your clothes is because caterpillars are eating through it (and not fully grown moths usually) so maybe he’d be hoodie biting excessively during that time lol

I have a few more snippets only written on Google docs right now but gosh I am loving this au, I totally see the fun of formation swapping Donnie now LOL

OKAY SO. shading, thing i am apparently accidentally really good at. it’s probably the thing i’ve gotten compliments on the most over the years which is funny because it’s probably the thing i’m Least confident that i can do well. therefore i can’t really give a tutorial but i can give a bunch of disjointed notes

(shown above is my Default Shading, further examples of different lighting below)

everything else under the cut or this is gonna be a mile long

i like using blue for shading, yellow/orange for lighting but generally you can just make them opposite/complimentary colours to each other and that’ll work. cool shadows, warm light or warm shadows, cool light. you get it. that’s a general rule there’s probably exceptions. i will say i hate using purple for shadows but that’s a personal preference (as is every colour i use being so saturated lol)

the orange around the edges is supposed to be subsurface scattering on skin but i put it on all the edges because i like how it looks 👍

yes there’s two different bounce lights. idk why i do this. i also just think it looks nice. i guess the one on the shading layer is more for form and the one on the lighting layer is more for the yk. lighting? anyways the first one is just a lighter version of the shading colour the second one is darker and slightly hue shifted (depending on the lighting scenario — it can be brighter if the situation calls for it)

the reason i don’t just shade around the edges is because it can make things look very flat which is the opposite of what you want when shading. sometimes it can just go on the edges in some specific scenarios but i like my shadows Chunky. basically having it go over the form instead of just along it can help show that form more

top left - night time | top right - bisexual? | bottom left - spotlight i guess? | bottom right - default/daylight again, just wanted to show a shape example

something i’ll also do a lot is have a separate multiply layer that’s just one colour and i’ll throw that over the whole thing to get the base colours correct for the lighting scenario. some people do it by eye but i am lazy so i cheat 👍 often it’ll be the same as the more detailed shadow colour but as with the top right example sometimes it’s different

shadows are either on multiply or linear burn, lights are either on add (glow) or glow dodge. depends on what looks best. same with opacity, i don’t have any real rules there

i also LOVE harsh lighting but that’s just a me thing. UMMM i can’t think of anything else to say

so next is ANATOMY okay this is also something i’m not super confident with lol but i can give some more disjointed notes by just redlining my own sketches lol

the uuuh “bottom of boobs is 2/3 down the ribs” isn’t technically correct? if ur drawing someone with big boobs and no bra on they’re probably gonna go lower but that’s kinda. where they come out from i guess. i also don’t think the “ribs” i draw are technically accurate but it works for a reference point

arms are a diamond (the shoulder.. muscle.. thing… idk what it’s called) and then some Tapered Tubes idk they’re not super complicated. if you wanna get more into it go google buff people and trace/redline their arms that’s how i learnt orz and uuuh i kinda also have the taking up 2/3 of the ribs but a bit Above. the way i’ve worded that makes no goddamn sense i’m bad at explaining this

ANYWAYS yeah bodies are just shapes if you want ppl to look unique just squash or stretch out the shapes 👍 and also learn actual anatomy stuff that always helps. my final message: learn to draw fat people it is no more difficult than drawing thin people

OUTFITS i love outfits. i have a pinterest board where a lot of my inspo comes from and it’s a section within a bigger board so ig i’m just giving you my whole inspo board. here (it’s the one called character fashion) (i do not condone art being reposted on pinterest without artists permission just ignore how much i have saved)

pinterest in general is good for outfit design stuff as long as you know where/how to look. u could also try fashion blogs and stuff

ummm a lot of stuff does just come from my own head tho, like based on clothes i like or vaguely inspired by stuff i’ve seen before. if you look through the board you can also see that like i rarely ever copy stuff directly i kinda just use whatever stuff i find as a base to work from. just find stuff you like and go from there i guess, i sometimes like picking a specific subculture or fashion style for a character and seeing what i can make from that (like missa is emo/scene, slime is like some kinda ravecore thing?? idk)

this is something i do on Most drawings to the point i have an auto action set up for it. duplicate the entire drawing (on csp the easiest way is to just merge visible to new layer), gaussian blur to like ? idk i think it’s 40% or something? i don’t remember, set that layer to soft light and lower the opacity

Sado is literally aware of everything and she rarely goes without her hat or anything clothing you might get your hands on. 

She probably knows you want to steal her clothes and leaves them out in the open for you to take. 

When she sees you wearing her clothes she looks calm on the outside but wants to pick you up and spin you around. 

She doesn’t blush or show much expression in her face but her pupils dilate when she gets flustered. 

Also random but if you stick your hand in her hat you’re going to find a lot of random stuff in there, it’s like a magician’s hat. 

Chef Bryce: 

Doesn’t like wearing his chef’s coat after everything that has happened but doesn’t mind you wearing it. 

When he sees you wearing it for the first time it brings a genuine smile to his face, he may even laugh a little bit.

He would let you decorate his chef’s coat. You could add embroidery, pins, or just doodle on it with marker. His chef’s coat is basically yours now. 

Doesn’t like seeing his fighting accessories like his fingerless gloves or the purple head sash but still lets you wear it. It looks good on you but it makes him sad to think of you ever having to fight. 

There’s a lot of stuff from the past weighing him down but seeing you and your goofy antics makes him look on the bright side.

Chandrelle: 

She wears a lot of jewelry which looks cool but from a practicality standpoint is sometimes annoying to her sometimes. 

When she sees her rings on your fingers as you struggle with the clasp on her necklace she laughs. She thinks the jewelry looks a lot better on you and will let you keep whatever pieces you like. 

She probably gives you one of her rings in the beginning of your relationship. 

If you wear any jewelry she might take it and it ends up being a very comforting thing to her. She’ll wear it proudly even if it doesn’t go with her outfit.

Both of you swap accessories and outfits a lot. She’ll even help with color coordination and certain themes. 

Irving: 

At first he’s irritated when he couldn’t find his sunglasses. He goes to ask you if you’ve seen them and he walks in on you wearing them. 

Tries his best to stifle his laughter because he doesn’t like showing too much emotion in front of other people but he can’t help it. 

His sunglasses make him feel more secure but he’ll let you wear them when you two are alone or if you’re in an environment where it’s super bright, especially if your eyes are sensitive. 

One of my main hc’s for him is that his sunglasses are also prescription so whenever he doesn’t have them on words are blurry to him. Imagine this serious looking dude just misreading words with the most certain expression on his face. 

Offers to get you your own pair of sunglasses so that both of you can match.

Lionel: 

Tired gamer dude probably wears a lot of baggy clothes like sweatpants, t-shirts, and hoodies. Most of his clothes are too big on him.

He doesn’t mind if you wear clothing he doesn’t wear much anymore but if you take one of his favorite hoodies he will fight you for it. (I’m joking but still) 

Pretends like he doesn’t like you stealing his clothes but he really does honestly. He doesn’t even know why but it makes him happy. 

If he sees that you’re cold he’s gonna give you his hoodie even if it means that he’ll be cold. 

He’s not really the best at being affectionate so he shows that he cares for you through his actions and sometimes that’s randomly giving you his clothes.

The ask was getting so long I’m sorry😭 (you Broke Me) BUT your tags had my heart aching because I didn’t even think about that but you’re sooo right like it’s clear that a lot of kurosawa’s unrealistic expectations for himself were ingrained into him through his mother and what she actually expected of him growing up and that manifesting into fears of fatherhood and making the same mistakes is,,,, (had to stop to forcefully regulate my breathing pattern here out of sheer pain) like it’s a perfect next life stage arc that stays true to his character. Story of Shin Megami Apples

This game has a story. Shocker, I know. I’m not going to spoil anything about it, but I do want to share a bit of how it came to be.

A background used in the second area.

The first pitch for the game was a simple story of “Oh noes! Stephanie’s time machine broke and now she needs to get back home! Travel past and future and... get back I guess”. Just a justification to make the game a basic adventure, and meeting fun characters.

But, for the final boss, I thought it would be really funny to make the final boss a god, because you can’t have an RPG without killing a god at the end. So I searched gods of time and I found the concept of the kairos, the eon and the chronos of Greek philosophy and the idea of the game came to me almost instantly.

With that idea, Thomas, her boyfriend, was added to the story instead of being a Steph solo-adventure. And since his deal was that he could cook pies, I thought to myself “apples”. And that’s why this game is apple, love and time. Like pulled from a hat, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

After that, I just started researching more mythology. And what I learned helped me make the story. For example, the first area was originally going to be just the tutorial area, not much more. But then, I learned of the norse goddess Idun and said “A goddess... of apples?? I have to add her in” so I did, and based the first area on her most important. Plus, that gave me an excuse to add golden apples as collectables and... c’mon, that’s cool. Having stuff to base the characters on makes it so much easier to come up with ideas. Shocker, I know.

As for the areas themselves, they are each based on art pieces! The first one is very clearly based on that very famous melting clock one plus other surrealist pieces from Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte, the second area is based on many expressionist and impressionist paintings, and the last area... well, it’s the one that gave the idea for making everything be based on art pieces. It’s a painting that I saw and inspired this whole ordeal.

An older version of the first area BG, but it was just too distracting for my liking.

Why is it based on art? Aside of it just being cool, the art references do tell a story too! It’s not, like, crucial to the game, and some of the reasons are very surface level, but I do feel it makes the areas stand out more. Plus, it helps me make backgrounds and decorations easier.

If I could add *anything* to the game, whatever I want, how do you even start? By basing it on the themes of the game and/or art pieces, it narrows down the scope of backgrounds and decorations, and helps me get things done. In general, I think themes are the most important thing to figure out from the beginning if you don’t want your own projects to be generic, but maybe I’ll talk about it another time.

It’s also an excuse to learn about nice art, nice cultures and mythology and not-so-nice art history and not-so-nice history .

i think i could write everything by hand but i would be lots slower, i go back and change individual words or add sentences a lot and being able to move around a doc helps way more w that BUT that being said when i was younger i wrote everything by hand it is possible

since this is an audience of tad i’m choosing something you’ve read this is fromm flowers in the graveyard the therut orville oneshot u read last:

Therut’s writing is a little indelicate, so his corrections are doodled on instead. The kid fiddles with his thumbs while Orville’s eyes roam the map, and he swallows as his eyes land on the workshop.

There’s a X scratching it out, and, in any remaining space, Therut has drawn flowers.

“The workshop?” he asks, uncertainly.

“Gone,” he reports, eyes searching Orville’s face. He looks excited, but like he’s hesitant to show it given Orville’s not reacted at all. Still, he elaborates, “Um, it’s, like—like you can tell something used to be there because it’s a lot smaller than the other plots, but it’s farmland now. I asked, and the guy said they were growing flowers! You can’t see them yet, which kind of blows, but I guess it’s new growth? I don’t know what kind, he wasn’t sure.”

Flowers growing in the graveyard that is—was—the workshop. The place he was put together, where the last remnants of whoever he was before were left abandoned. He’d been so scared deep down he’d find a new make of a handy little hitman booting up between those four walls, dreading the idea of the new life that might be getting to its feet and marching loyally forward; a different kind of growth in its place, down to the dirt that surely came before that rotten little building, is such a relief he has no idea what to do with the information. It takes a second to even settle in his head and when it does, he finds himself laughing, long enough he’s out of breath and half-bent over.

Therut looks mortified. “You, uh—you good? You fucking losing it? Are we freaking out?”

SO this is nothing very subtle but we knew we wanted orville’s dad to not be here for a one and done final confrontation. me n gabri went back and forth with ideas for how orville gets resolution with his dad even after she decided we didn't wanna kill him in this. i knew i wanted therut involved bcos the whole story is about how their unique circumstances and similarities help them grow together and orville helps kill cane as well but i wasnt sure exactly how i wanted it to go.

i got very close to sending therut in to scout it out without asking but another one of the themes here is about how theyre able to communicate even in these circumstances where they have to read between the lines because one of them can’t articulate what they're thinking and feeling.

i almost also had both therut and orville agree to leave this stone unturned only to meet here at the ranch like spiderman pointing realizing they both wanted to be sure orvilles father wouldn’t be a problem down the line

but ultimately i think the most important thing to me was to communicate an idea that described orville and where hes at with his trauma in this au and that is pretty transparently the workshop.

i think the title which obviously is ripped from this passage lends itself to like a funeral vibe flowers in a graveyard okay people leaves flowers at graves but by the end here you come to understand it’s about new growth in the soil that was previously thought to be like dead and cursed especially by orville

like specifically in that with his amnesia and with how things go after he manipulated after not being able to remember before he kind of sees himself as like the end of whoever came before and like a walking corpse like a constant reminder he is in some ways less “alive” bcos he feels so empty and so like destined to be a killer bcos of how hes built and groomed

and then this understanding hes wrong about the workshop still standing like a monument and instead housing seeds that will bloom to be flowers is this huge like. you are capable of growth and we’re seeing now you make these decisions to foster that now making sure your father is gone to protect this new life you’re creating for yourself and your loved ones.

its not the most complicated symbolism ever but i enjoyed the challenge of being able to speak on orville’s growth and get him some form of closure without being allowed to kill his abuser B)

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

AUGH ghis is hard because i love getting into character mindsets . maybe my oc puffball it’s cool having such a stark difference between their internal monologue which is very self deprecating and admonishing and their outward dialogue with puts others down and like finding that middle ground between ego and insecurity in a character who juxtaposes themselves in a lot of ways . but i love writing any character that thinks differently than i do and drawing them to conclusions and actions i would never think of B)
