AN: Sarah is my longest-held and dearest personal avatar -- or Mary Sue if you wanna be a jerk about it -- from a Werewolf The Apocalypse phase I went through way back in high school. For the nerds who care, she's a Black Fury Philodox and practicing ecoterrorist, who's buried a lot of loved ones including and especially her only daughter. In case anyone's coming from that side of the tracks, Beau Arlen is the acting sheriff of Lewis and Clark County (county seat Helena, Montana, USA), a transplanted Texas whose daughter was kidnapped and nearly killed by a serial killer. In this headcanon Big Sky takes place in the World of Darkness and Beau's an innocent human who has no idea werewolves exist. Beau Arlen wasn't above playing up to clichés, it helped people feel comfortable around him. Like not code-switching to hide his accent, using informal-yet-courtly manners, exaggerating his bowed legs a little when he walked. Someone could call this just another cliché, the hard-drinking Texan seeking truth in the bottom of a beer bottle. Well better a beer bottle than a whiskey glass, he supposed. And nobody who knew the story would begrudge him seeking a little chemical comfort.
Still, there was a reason he was drinking at Longhorns as opposed to the Boot Heel tonight. He was in a weird mood, and it was the kind of weird mood that led to bad decisions. If Mo Poppernack, Lord bless him and his offbeat cheer, hit him with any more well-meaning kindness he just might knock the poor guy's block off.
A few seats down the bar, a couple got up. Beau studied them in his peripheral vision. Not a couple-couple, the body language was wrong. Family he'd guess, even thought they looked nothing alike. The man was six feet of ugly, black hair and bad acne scars, with a New York City accent that sounded like sandpaper being rubbed together. The woman was older, petite and stocky, long brown hair pulled back into a French braid, her voice deep with a rasp that said cigarettes. They embraced.
"Take care of yourself Chainsaw," the woman said, soft and tender.
"You too boss," the man said, touching her face. "Don't get too drunk, okay?"
"No promises."
The man left. The woman stood there for a moment before hauling in a deep sigh and sitting back up to the bar. She glanced around. Beau noted her eyes were a fine blue-gray, sharp as she checked the exits and counted heads. Her jacket fell open as she stretched, and Beau didn’t see a weapon. Funny, she sure as hell behaved like a woman expecting a fight and a bloody one at that. Beau also noted a wide scar across her left cheek, four parallel lines like Freddy Kruger had cut her with his glove.
---
"So, the question becomes,” Sarah said, picking up her beer, “how drunk is too drunk?"
"Well, that's more of a philosophical question, I find." Sarah glanced down at the resident of the stool a few slots down the bar. A charming smile shone out from a short beard, one that found an echo on her own face. "Unless motor vehicles are involved in which case too drunk equals 0.08 blood alcohol content or over."
"No vehicles involved," Sarah confirmed, mirroring his folksy slant on VEE-hicles. "I'm staying at the motel a couple doors down."
"Oh well in that case," he tipped the neck of his own beer in a little salute, "however much proves as needed to thoroughly drown your sorrows."
Sarah chuckled. "Too bad my sorrows have gills."
He grimaced. "Oooh. Yikes."
"I just settle for taking them out back and giving them a bath every now and again," she added, finishing off her beer and asking the bartender for a glass of water.
"Sound plan. Very sound," the charming man approved. He lifted his bottle, "My sorrows,” he drank, cleared his throat, “they just refuse to drown."
"Bastards found submarines?"
He laughed and Sarah felt her heart do that liftoff thing it did sometimes. He really was very handsome. Reminded her a little of Mark. Similar coloring anyway, those fine green eyes he’d given Charlie before he split. "We're way overthinking this metaphor."
"Just a skoash," Sarah agreed, and they shared a smile.
The charming man gave her a closer look and Sarah let him. Some company would be nice. Pull her out of her own thoughts for a while. "I'm Beau," he identified himself, stretching to extend a hand across the empty barstools.
Sarah took it, noting a grip firm enough to be friendly. "Sarah."
"Mind if I join you?"
"Be my guest," she said, and Beau moved the few seats down. Stood about six-two, jeans, boots, sheepskin-lined coat, silver belt buckle about the size of her palm. Forty-ish, she guessed, and he wore his years well. Better than she was at any rate, with gray threading her hair thicker by the week.
"So, my interesting new friend," Sarah said, "what're your sorrows that they're lurking in submarines?"
"That's a long story."
Sarah shrugged. "I got time. Who knows? Maybe talking them out a little'll make the fuckers drown faster."
Beau considered her. She saw him noticing her scar, making a mental note of it. "You're not from around here are you?"
"Obviously," Sarah said dryly. "You aren't either. Texas?"
"Got it in one." He signaled the bartender and ordered, paying for Sarah's like a gentleman. "Friend of mine was County Sheriff when he got wounded on the job. He called me to fill in temporarily."
"That must've ruffled some feathers."
"Not as many as you might think although that might be a case of delayed reaction."
Sarah listened and sipped as Beau unbottled and laid out one hell of a story. It was a struggle to keep her poker face when he described the serial killer who'd kidnapped his daughter. Revenge or justice or both-- burning the Panty Man didn't make Charlie any less gone, forever lost before she really had a chance to live. "Thank the Goddess your daughter's all right," she said.
"I mean, yeah, Em's tough. Shit she's doing better than her mom’n’me." Oh boy, could Sarah relate, the pups taking in stride what broke their elders. "Carla's moving back down to Houston, permanently. Her family's all there. She needs the support system. Come to find out plenty of her friends were really Avery's friends and they didn't have much use for her with him gone."
"Assholes," Sarah gave her opinion.
Beau shrugged it off. "Last time I talked to her Emily asked me point-blank if I was gonna relocate with them."
"You thinking of getting back together with your ex?"
He thought a moment. "It's funny. Ask me that question a year-- hell, even six months ago, I'd've leapt at the chance. Carla . . . she's one of the most amazing women I've ever met. I think I'm a better man than I was when she left me. I know I could be a better husband to her. I’ll always love her."
"But?"
"But." Beau sighed. "But the issues that drove her away, those haven't gone anywhere. And I don't know if we'll be good to each other, after Emily goes off to college, starts living on her own." After a moment's thought, Beau added, "Avery was a grade-A jackass but Carla loved him. She's still in mourning. I don't think trying to get back with her will do anything but end badly."
Sarah made an educated guess and said, "Besides, there might be someone else."
Beau's eyebrows lifted, just a little. "Are you a cop in your day job or just really good at bar therapy?"
That surprised her into a chuckle. "People open up to me. Goddess knows why. Who is she?"
"One my deputies. Tubbs's undersheriff," he confessed. Sarah winced. "Yeah. I mean, she's . . . beautiful, tough, smart. Brave? Hell she kicks down doors better'n I do. I think . . ." he trailed off, shook his head. "So yeah, there might be someone else. But then there might not be. She lost her husband little over a year ago, went through a real rocky patch right after. I'm not sure . . . I don't know if she's really put all that in her rearview. Plus, she's technically my subordinate and anti-fraternization regulations are a thing that exist.
"It's not just her though," Beau admitted. "I moved up here pretty much done with ever’thing. Not just from the job either. Didn't see much point to doin' anything but the daily routine. Some days not even that." Sarah nodded. She could relate to that too. "Then Tubbs asked me to fill in for him, just until he got back on his feet. Now it's looking like he's retiring completely and his job needs filling. The City Council asked me if I'm considering running for the office next year. I have to give them an answer by close of business Monday."
Sarah whistled. "No pressure or anything."
"Nope. I mean, it shouldn't even be a choice, really. Any other candidates I can think of are local boys'n'girls. Who'm I? I'm just the out-of-towner who happened to be in the big chair when the murder rate spiked to the highest it's been in fifteen years. And there's Emily to think of. I . . . I lost a big chunk of her life when I was going through my bad time. I don't want to lose any more."
"Buuuuuuut?" Sarah dragged out.
"But," Beau said, signaling for another beer. "But I have a life here, a good life. Last thing I expected. I mean, I like the country. I like the people. I got a job that might lead to me doin’ some good, 'stead of just playing Catch Me Screw Me with the cartels all day ev'ry day."
"Okay," Sarah said, considering as she finished her beer and asked for another water.
"Ah," Beau said, lighting up like a man who'd just solved a riddle. He really was unfairly handsome, Sarah thought. "Pacin’ yourself?"
"Takes the curse off the hangover," Sarah lied. "And I've made some dumb decisions while drunk."
"Mmm? What sorta dumb decisions?"
"Aggravated assault decisions," Sarah said. Before he could ask, she amplified, "Got in a bar fight with a couple of dickheads over a Lions game. Put'em in the hospital. Took a plea, did a year, completed my probation about fifteen years ago. Luna's blood I feel old now."
"I'm impressed."
"Don't be," Sarah said, noting the closer look he gave her. She'd admit to going to seed a bit the last few years. "I took boxing lessons all through high school. I've got a decent left for my size. And the other guys were really drunk." Being able to ignore pain at will helped there. Shifting to Glabro to match their height helped too.
"Makes sense," Beau shrugged. "What're your sorrows that they need drowning?"
"Nothing that can really be helped," Sarah said, thinking of Misty giving her pups suck and glowing with joy, Chainsaw taking his broken heart back to the solace of his people and trying so hard not to blame her for losing Tripwire. Roger, oh Gaia and Her mercy Roger-- "The inevitable march of time. Makes me mopey. Your problem on the other hand, sounds like something that can be addressed plain and simple. Stay or go?"
"What do you think? You have kids?"
"Had," Sarah said, her heart throbbing along the scar. Charlie had lived there once, under her heart. "She died."
"Oh Christ, I'm sorry," Beau said. It was fascinating, she could read his heart in his face. "I feel like a dick, whining about--"
"Hey," Sarah said, twisting in her seat and reaching over to take his hand. "We're not talking about me, we're talking about you. Let me ask you this; have you talked to your daughter about what she wants?"
"Yeah. She didn't come right out'n say so but she wants me close. She feels safe with me. God knows why."
"Because she knows for a fact you'll deconstruct anyone who so much as looks at her wrong," Sarah said. She thought a minute. "Your girl's how old, sixteen, seventeen?"
"She'll be seventeen in a few months."
"My advice, for what it's worth," Sarah said, "is call her tomorrow when you both have time to talk. Ask her what she needs from you. Does she need her daddy or does she need her father?"
"There's a difference?" Beau asked. He hadn't moved to take his hand back. Instead he gripped at her fingers.
"Yeah, there is. Daddy makes your problems go away. Father helps you fight them yourself. If you try to be her father when she really needs her daddy, you'll wind up making her feel alone. Unsafe. If you try to be her daddy when she needs her father, you'll wind up undermining her sense of herself. That'll push her away, just when she really does need you."
Beau stares at you. "That's possibly the least stupid thing I've heard in a long time."
"Oh thanks," Sarah snorted.
"No I meant-- sorry, I didn't say that right."
"What I mean is," Sarah said, "if you're making the decision for her sake, it might not be a bad idea to make her feel like she's got something of a say in it. You got a life here that you like and want to keep, and that's okay. But you got a duty to her. Wise woman told me once, if there's a conflict between your head and your heart duty gets the tiebreaker. At least then if it turns out you made a mistake you won't get eaten alive by your own conscience."
Quiet from her drinking partner as he finished off his beer. He didn't let go of her hand and Sarah didn't take it back. Been a while, since she'd felt warm at the thought of a man's hands. His were nice, big and thick-fingered, nails clipped close and tidy.
"Thank you," he said as he put the dead soldier down. "That actually helps a lot."
"What'd'you think you'll wind up doing?"
"I don't know," he admitted. "Least now I can think the problem through instead of just brooding over it. But now I got another problem."
"Mmm? What's that?" Sarah asked.
A slow smile lit the other man's face, turning him from nice to look at to honestly breathtaking. "I gotta think of another problem for you to solve for me."
Sarah laughed. "Smooth."
"Sorry, been a while since I tried to be good company to a lady."
"Lady? Lady? What lady? Where lady?" Sarah asked, miming a confused look-around. "Shit I wish you'd've told me you were trying to be a gentleman, I'd've used my company manners."
"No no no," he deflected with a raised hand, "you've been delightful. I'm just sorry I'm out of problems for you to solve for me."
"If you're having car trouble I can take a look--" Sarah teased.
"Naw, Pedro's running like a sweetheart." No mistake now, his hand was holding hers. His thumb swiped across the soft skin across the back. Beau pivoted in his seat, opening his body more to Sarah. "I, uh . . ."
"Is this the part where you invite me over for coffee or am I supposed to invite you for coffee? I haven't done the coffee thing in a while," Sarah put it out there. "Cuz if you don't mind a walk I'd love to have you over for coffee."
Beau considered. His eyes were a little soft with the effect of the beers. It made him look even cuter. Luna's blood he must've harvested broken hearts by the truckload when he was younger. "I'd like that. Some coffee."
---
"Oh we need to make a pit stop at the 7-11," Sarah noted as they walked through the bar's parking lot.
"Oh yeah? What for?" Beau asked.
"Coffee. You take cream and sugar?"
That surprised him into a laugh.
---
Beau paused when he got down to her underwear. "It's okay," Sarah reassured him as he looked her over. At the roadmap of battle scars all over her body. "If they're a mood-killer for you that's fine. We can get a good night's sleep and no hard feelings."
"They're very much not," Beau said, touching her face. "Just don't find it so weird you put a couple guys in the hospital all of a sudden."
Beau had a few battle scars of his own, some knife cuts and a couple of bullet holes. He seemed to view them dispassionately, a source of neither pride nor shame. "Mmm," he grunted as Sarah traced light fingers over his ribs. "Tickles."
"Sorry." She firmed her touch, slid her hand to caress his chest. Firm definition under a healthy layer of squish, haired up a bit across his pecs and down his tummy. She picked up his hand and examined the tattoo on the inside of his forearm-- a fleur-de-lis with a crown and anchor. "This is French isn't it?"
"Mmm-hmm," Beau said. "My mother's family's French. My real legal name's Beaumont Theodore Arlen."
"Beaumont Theodore? You poor poor boy," Sarah said.
Smiling, Beau put a hand on her shoulder. "What about this?" his thumb rubbed over the tribal pictogram inked below her collarbone. Faded with age, not that it mattered.
"Sort of a family mark," Sarah vastly oversimplified. "The ones on my arms're relics of a gang I ran with when I was younger. And what have we got here?" she asked as she put her palm over his zipper.
"Well darlin’ thishere's a fella love'ta meet you very much," Beau grinned.
"Luna's blood don't tell me you named it," Sarah groaned around her giggles, as she worked his button open and slowly lowered the zipper. "On second thought," she said after working his pants down enough to get a look at him, "a fella this handsome probably deserves a name."
"We don't really blush in Texas, so let me," Sarah squeaked as Beau reared up and flipped them over, pinning her beneath his body and giving her a kiss, "demonstrate my appreciation."
"Oh my," Sarah sighed. Beau kissed down the pad of tummy fat, carefully avoiding the straight line of her hysterectomy scar. "Your mama raised a very polite boy." Tipping her a wink, Beau split her with his thumbs and applied his mouth. Sarah just shut her eyes and enjoyed it. She couldn't remember the last time a man had done that for her.
"Such a mess for me," Beau noted when he came up for air. Hot and flushed and panting, Sarah watched him squirm his pants off to land of the floor. He belly-crawled and rolled to flop next to Sarah, hot and really unfairly fucking glorious in his birthday suit. He had his wallet in his hand and with a little pleased grunt he pulled a condom out of the inner pocket.
"Allow me," Sarah said, taking the packet away from him. Beau gave a little be-my-guest wave. He fit in her hand just right, hot and firm. Hearing him moan was lovely, as she clamped the condom packet between her lips and just played with him. Easy to forget how much fun cocks were to just play with.
Beau seized Sarah's hand. "Gotta stop a second," he panted. "It's late, I'm tired, and I'm pretty sure I'm only gonna be able to do this once."
"Sorry, got carried away," Sarah said. Wrapping him up was the work of a minute. "How do you want me, cowboy?"
“Mmm . . . right about here I think,” Beau said, tugging her up and rolling her beneath him. Sarah sighed as he pressed into her. He was warm, warm and thick. “Oh you make little sounds,” Beau said, because of course he was a talkative lover.
“Careful please,” Sarah said, breathing through the stretch, Little Beau wasn’t very little and it’d been a while.
“Accourse, accourse,” Beau kissed her. “Lord Jesus you feel nice. All soft and warm.”
“Careful, careful,” Sarah said as Beau braced his arm on the bed. He lifted her leg and his hips moved in a wave. Sarah sighed, he was moving inside her just so nice. “Goddess yes,” she sighed.
Grinning big and bright, Beau brought her carefully to the edge and over.
As sparkles snapped along her nerves, Sarah flipped Beau over and returned the favor.
---
Glass cool and dusty under his fingertips, the heart inside still vivid red with the living blood it had once driven forth. Twist slowly clockwise and the masking tape label bearing the single word in Sharpie -- EMILY--
Whirl around and there she was, the she become an it, laying with eyes open and empty right along with the chest. And more. There were other jars, other names.
CARLA. RANDY. BEN. DENISE. CASSIE.
Open empty eyes, open empty bodies, and the knife with her name was in his hand--
Beau woke up gasping. Breathing exercises, breathing exercises, pull on the air there's plenty of it. Beau pulled in for five heartbeats, pushed out for five heartbeats. In, out. His heart slowed as his breathing did. Under the sheets his toes clenched and relaxed. Beau let the motion ground him, pull him back to himself and the world where Emily was okay and it was just a dream.
And a world where he wasn't alone tonight. How 'bout that.
Sarah wasn't any kind of beauty, a woman pushing fifty who'd lived hard and looked it. On the other hand, she'd been kind without making him feel like he needed to be managed like Carla, and without the baggage of mutual attraction like Jenny, and not someone whose good opinion he cared about like Cassie or someone who’d been through enough already like Denise. Beau got feelings about people sometimes, and his intuitions told him Sarah was good at carrying secret things.
He checked his phone, nodded at the lack of messages, and burrowed back under the covers. As he did, Sarah grunted a bit. Her muscles were rigid and her breathing was short and shallow. Carefully, Beau spooned himself behind her. "Hey there," he said softly, kissing her shoulder, "hey wake up, it's a dream, shh."
"I know that babe," she said, sleepy but clear, "I've had bad dreams all my life." She rolled over and let Beau pull her close. Kissing him, she asked, "What about you? You okay?"
"Yeah." He kissed the top of her head. Stroking down her back and making a mental map of the scars under his fingers. "My daughter's okay, the bad guy's dead."
"Right. Just your imagination being a dick to you." That made him chuckle. "Go back to sleep. Sounds like you could use it."
"Yeah," Beau agreed. He took a breath from her hair, smelling cigarettes and beer and sex. All that plus a warm body alongside his-- all of it pulling him far away from his usual and customary. It felt nice, a little time-out from his reality where all the choices seemed bad for one reason or another. Beau shut his eyes and let fatigue do its thing.
When he woke up next the bed was empty and the room was full of morning light. The bathroom door was shut and he could hear the blow dryer. And singing-- Beau chuckled when he heard Sarah's alto voice singing something he didn't recognize. Something sweet and melancholy, something that made Beau wish for his guitar. God, there's something he hadn't thought seriously about in forever, just one of the many small joys that had died with Randy--
That's not true, something in his head spoke up, and for once the voice was gentle instead of accusatory. Not dead, just put away for a while. He wondered if Jenny sang, wondered if her voice went high and sweet or deep and smooth--
As he thought he sat up and found his phone. No messages, thank the good Lord. As he sent a quick good morning text to Emily, the blow dryer shut off. "I alone, survived the sinking," Sarah's voice went softer, mindful that someone might be sleeping, "I alone, possessed the tools, on that ship of fools."
Sometimes a man is cursed with the need to know a thing. Beau opened the browser on his phone and started typing.
The bathroom door opened and Sarah emerged wrapped in a towel, brushing out her long brown hair. "Oh, good morning. Shower's free."
"Thanks," Beau gave her a smile and hit the restroom.
---
Sarah got dressed as Beau got cleaned up and ready to face the day. The day was shaping up beautifully, just right for a long drive down out of the mountains. Been a long time since she'd been so by herself, not tied up in her responsibilities as pack alpha or sept warder or tribal elder or den mother. And such lovely new memories to reflect on, she thought with a smile. If tired and drunk Beau was this fantastic in bed she truly envied the woman who landed him long-term, scars and all.
She was just finishing up with the packing when the bathroom door opened. "Hey," she said, "I'm on my way out the door but if you want we could grab some breakfast and I can drop you off somewhere."
It wasn't Beau looking at her, it was a cop studying a suspect. Those beautiful eyes said very clearly bullshit me at your own risk. "I know who you are."
"Really," Sarah said, pulling her bag up onto her back. She stood straight and met his hard stare with her own. "And who am I?"
"Stalinski, Sarah Michaela," Beau recited. "Person of interest in the Chippewa Valley reactor bombing, person of interest in the Exxon Transit Pipeline sabotage, suspect in the murder of Willard Mikaelian--"
"AKA the Panty Man, and my daughter was his last victim," Sarah pointed out. He never got to hurt another baby girl again, was the part she didn't say. The law didn’t handle him for shit. I did. She left that part unsaid too.
Beau blinked, but that was all. "You've got an FBI file thicker'n the King James Bible and your name's on half a dozen terrorist watch lists."
Sarah kept his gaze. She really didn't want to hurt him if she didn't have to, not as a cop doing his duty. "So."
"So."
"Am I under arrest? Being taken in for questioning? Detained just for the hell of it?" Because that wasn't happening.
He didn't answer right away. "No. No, the only thing I can honestly accuse you of is getting drunk in a bar. Which isn't illegal."
"Then,” Sarah asked, clapping her hands on her thighs, “why the dramatic reveal? You wanna feel like you got the upper hand on me? You got it, you win, fair and square." He hadn’t and never would, but if the Goddess was good he’d never know that.
"Fine,” Beau said, and Sarah made a mental note to check his bloodlines because a human should not have this much presence, “I want you out of my county, and I don't want to ever see your face here again. If I do I will turn you over to the feds. Clear?"
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Your county? Sheriff?"
Beau blinked.
"Sounds like your decision's been made. And message received-- Helena is a no-fly zone from now on." Sarah opened the door, but turned to look back at her one-night lover. "For what it's worth," she said, "you're a good man, and you need to cut yourself some slack. Take care of yourself Beau Arlen."
With that food for thought plated and served, Sarah shut the door and headed for the car. Stranger In Town went in the stereo and Sarah drove away into the risen sun.
---
AN2: The scene stuck in my head so hard, I had to write it out. I just got done watching Big Sky, and it's a deep shame the series wasn't picked up for a fourth season-- I'd've loved to have seen Beau and Jenny running head-to-head in the next sheriff's election. Oh, and gotten more Emily. I love Emily.

Only the Strong Survive Ch. 7
Series Summary: Lexie Weston is in a terrible, abusive marriage. In her mind and soul, she feels like she has no way out that won't result in her death. But something changes in her life to make her take the risk. Can she rely on Sheriff Beau Arlen to protect her like he said he would, or will this risk lead to ruin?
Pairings: Beau Arlen x OFC (eventual)
Series Warnings/Explicit 18+: Smut, Angst, Fluff throughout. A pretty slow burn, TW: Abusive marriage, Domestic abuse will be talked about throughout. Chapter warnings will be more specific
Word Count: 3,329
Chapter Summary: Y/N wants to explore the connection she feels to Beau, but will that sever it?
Chapter Warnings: None. Kissing.
A/N: K, so the next chapter definitely came out faster than the last. Lol! The momentum feels good on the series, I think I might ACTUALLY finish it sooner than the end of February if I don't stall out. Wish me luck! And as always if you enjoy the series/chapter, please comment and/or reblog. It makes a HUGE difference in keeping that momentum going.
Hope you enjoy Ch. 7!
The beautiful divider at the bottom was created by @saradika
The night was cold now, and Lexi pulled her heavy coat tighter around her. She could hear people laughing and talking, saying their farewells as they packed up and put out the bonfire. She knew she needed to go too, the school bus would be headed back to Haven House very soon. But she just wanted to breathe it all in a bit longer.
“So.” Beau said as he walked up beside her. “What do you think? Did we manage to throw you a decent graduation party?”
She looked at him and was struck anew at how incredibly beautiful he was. She smiled shyly and sighed deeply, looking back out at the mountains surrounding them, purple in the darkness. She gazed up at the full moon and shook her head.
“I think…I think this might be the, the best time I’ve ever had.”
She looked up at Beau and saw his slight befuddlement. She shrugged and looked away. “I was just thinking about…” She trailed off, and wondered whether Beau actually wanted to hear any of this. But when she snuck another glance at him, his eyes were curious and encouraging. That look, of interest and consideration, was one of the things that made his eyes so incredibly beautiful.
So she carried on.
“The reason I dropped out of high school was, well…my dad - he drank a lot. He was…I think he was a good man, had a good heart, but he was just…I don’t know, lost I guess. My mom, she died when I was really little. I don’t remember her at all, but…” She smiled sadly. “He did, and I think it just kind of ate at him you know. I mean, I know he…he loved me and I loved him too. But, he couldn’t take care of me, couldn’t take care of himself. So, someone had to…” She gave a brief resigned laugh. “Someone had to buy the milk, pay the electric bill, you know. So, I dropped out, started working.”
The wind kicked up a bit and blew a curl over her forehead and she tucked it back behind her ear before continuing. “But, I mean, I really liked school. So leaving…” She stopped to glance at Beau again and his smile was soft and understanding. “Well, it sucked.”
Beau nodded. “I bet.” He said quietly.
Lexi shrugged. “And I…I know my GED, it’s not the same as graduating, but…” She started to duck her head, but instead she caught herself and raised her chin. “I guess, I feel…I don’t know, I guess - I’m proud of myself.”
She wanted to immediately take back the words, but she told herself that she wouldn’t. She meant what she said.
Beau’s smile was blinding. “Oh, sweetheart, you should be proud of yourself. What you’ve accomplished…” He shook his head. “Not only with getting your diploma, but just everything. You deserve to feel incredibly proud.”
His praise was a lot for Lexi to take. She loved it, and felt it spread warm and happy through her heart, but she had to look away from him, looking back up at the moon instead.
“Anyway,” she shrugged again. “I was just standing here thinking, ‘When was the last time I felt like this?’ and I realized…I don’t ever remember feeling like this. Which is probably pathetic. But…I think…my whole life I’ve been just…surviving, you know. And now…I feel like I’m living, I feel like tonight was the start of that.”
She crossed her arms, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed with her wordy confession. “Does that make sense?”
Beau nodded. “It makes perfect sense, yes. And I’m so glad for you.”
From over by the bus, Sarah called for Lexi. Lexi waved back and gave a thumbs up to show she heard.
“Well, anyway I guess I should…” She thumbed towards the group waiting on her.
“Right.” Beau took a step back, but Lexi stopped him.
“Wait, I was wondering…would you do me a big favor?”
“Sure.” Beau answered immediately.
“It’s not really, like, a professional thing, or…well, it’s a personal favor.” Lexi cautioned him. “So, please feel free to say no. I’ll completely understand.”
Beau gave a chuckle and shook his head. “What do you need?”
Lexi bit her lip and watched Beau’s eyes dart to her mouth. Something in his gaze made her core muscle clench and she had to look at the ground and take in a deep breath before she could continue.
“I have a um, appointment tomorrow…it’s my sonogram appointment.” She glanced at him with an excited expression. “I finally get to see the baby. But…I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna go alone.”
She dipped her head in the direction of the bus. “And Cicely has an appointment with her case worker, so…would you consider going with me?”
Beau hesitated a moment, and Lexi panicked and reassured him. “Seriously, it’s a lot to ask, so if you can’t do it -”
But Beau interrupted her. “Of course, happy to. What time?”
Lexi let out a breath. “It’s at one.”
“Okay, I’ll pick you up.”
Sarah honked the bus horn and Lexi waved and turned towards the bus before turning back quickly and impulsively throwing her arms around Beau’s neck to give him a hug. He hugged her back, and it occurred to her how perfect it felt to be held by him. She didn’t want to let go.
But she knew everyone was waiting, so she smiled at him shyly one more time before walking quickly towards the bus, wondering how long the warm and inviting scent of his cologne would linger on her coat.
***
“Alexandria Weston?”
Lexi looked up at the young woman in mint green scrubs and nodded. She hoped the name change papers went through soon.
Beau stood up with her and placed his hand on her lower back, guiding her towards the swinging door where the nurse waited patiently. The feeling of his touch, warm and reassuring, made some of the nervousness in her belly fade away, while causing a new kind of fluttering throughout her body.
Oh boy.
They entered a small room, slightly crowded with a table and equipment. The nurse took some basic information from Lexi before helping her up onto the table.
“The technician will be in shortly.” She smiled and left them alone in the cramped room.
Beau looked around and smiled. “This brings back memories.” He caught Lexi’s eye and winked. “Really good ones. I’ll never forget the way it felt to see Em for the first time.” He reached over and squeezed her hand. “I’m happy to be here with you for this.”
Lexi felt her eyes get inexplicably moist and she beamed at him. “I’m so grateful.”
Before Beau could respond, the technician entered with a bright smile. “Good afternoon. My name is Helena. How’s everyone feeling today?” She said as she shut the door behind her.
“Good.” Lexi and Beau said in unison.
Helena pulled the machine forward and pulled her stool up close to the table. Beau shifted around to Lexi’s other side, so he wasn’t in the way. But he picked up her hand again and Lexi squeezed it tightly, nervous despite her excitement.
“Alright folks!” The bubbly tech said, “Ready to meet your baby?”
“Oh, uh…” Lexi started to correct her, worried it would embarrass Beau to be mistaken for the father, but he squeezed her hand again, and gave a little shake of his head and a wink, letting her know it didn’t matter to him.
“Yeah,” he answered Helena, “we’re ready.”
Lexi felt her heart squeeze, imagining for just a minute how much simpler and happier her life would be if it was the truth. But before she could get too lost in wishful thinking, Helena pushed up her t-shirt to squirt out some cold jelly onto her stomach.
“Ooh!” Lexi exclaimed. “That’s cold.”
Helena smiled. “Yeah, I know. Sorry.” She pushed the wand around through the jelly, watching the screen.
Lexi shook her head and was going to tell her it was fine, but suddenly there was a sound like a freight train and Lexi gasped.
“Is that…”
“Your baby’s heartbeat.” Helena smiled as she moved the wand a little lower and the sound intensified.
“Oh my god.” Lexi’s voice was barely a breath. She stared raptly at the screen trying to make out the image. Clearly having done this many times, Helena began to explain.
“Here is your baby’s head.” She smoothed her finger over a tiny round silhouette on the screen, before continuing on. “And here is their spine, and down over the bum. And here you can see their limbs and we can even make out their fingers and toes.” She smiled at Lexi. “They’re waving at us.”
Tears were falling unchecked down Lexi’s face. A feeling like nothing she’d ever known swept over her and she felt pure joy and astounding fear in exactly equal measure.
“Oh,” Helena said with a smile. “Of course, we caution that we can never be one hundred percent certain, but do you want to know the sex?”
Lexi’s stomach dipped. “Yes.” She said immediately, anticipation rampant in her mind.
“Well, folks, it looks like you are going to have a bouncing baby boy.”
Lexi couldn’t process her own feelings and her mind raced from one thought to the next, there was a bit of panic setting in as everything felt suddenly very real in a way it simply hadn’t until that moment. All of a sudden the abstract future looked very distinct. Her son had a face in her mind, he was a mischievous toddler running away from her at the park, he was a chubby baby with a toothy smile and tiny fingers, he was a teenage boy slouching in his chair, he was a little boy with a splinter who was crying for her, he was a man hugging her goodbye as he left for college.
In the span of thirty seconds her son’s entire life spun through her mind and the panic grew. How could she possibly do this? She wasn’t capable of this, she was going to screw him up somehow, she was going to -
Suddenly both of Beau’s big hands closed over the one he held and he held it tighter. He spoke to Helena.
“How's the little guy doin’? Everything look good?”
Helena nodded. “Yes, he looks fabulous. Everything is developing normally, he's a good, healthy size, he's great.”
Beau raised Lexi's knuckles to his lips and pressed a kiss there. “That's because of you.” He said softly. “Because you've kept him safe and taken such good care of him. You should be proud of that too.”
Lexi looked up into Beau's face and a wave of tenderness and gratitude washed over her as his green eyes sparkled down at her. How had he known just what to say? How did he know what she was thinking, how she’d been panicking at the magnitude of feeling sweeping through her? He was…incredible.
“Thank you.” She said simply, but what she meant was, “Thank you for saving me yet again.”
***
“I don’t wanna go back to the station yet.” Beau said as he was pulling out of the clinic parking lot. “What do you say we stop for ice cream? There’s an amazing place, Suzie’s Sundaes, they’ve got a million flavors.”
Lexi smiled mischievously. “You should know better than to tempt a pregnant woman with ice cream.”
Beau chuckled. “Suzie’s it is.”
After getting their ice cream, a scoop of Coffee Praline for Beau and one of Cookie Dough for Lexi, Beau nodded his head towards the park across the street.
“Wanna walk?”
Lexi nodded. “I’d love to.”
As they crossed the street, Beau put his free hand on her lower back again, safeguarding her as they crossed, and there was something in the gesture that made Lexi want to bat her eyes and giggle like a schoolgirl. There was just something about Beau that tended to make her head spin.
It had been like this, almost from the beginning she admitted now, but until Cicely had brought it up, she’d been doing a great job at pretending the feelings didn't exist. But now those thoughts and emotions just wouldn’t go away. She’d never felt this way about anyone. Not ever.
Given her history, she was surprised by how little the feelings scared her. She was nervous, only because she wasn’t sure that Cicely was right about Beau’s feelings towards her, and she was aware of the awful timing of it all. But fear didn’t enter in.
She had no fear where Beau was concerned. Her therapist at Haven House had spoken with her about what to lookout for in future relationships - red flags, she’d called them. But with Beau, there were no red flags; it was all green.
They wandered through the park for a while, both enjoying their ice cream and the scent of spring in the air. Eventually, Beau took her hand and pulled her off the beaten path.
“There’s a nice little bridge with some benches and trees over this way.”
Warmth spread up her arm from where he clasped her fingers, and when she sat down beside him on the bench, she was sorry that he let go.
“So, how are you doing?” He asked and Lexi shrugged.
“I’m good. I mean…I must admit that I’m a little nervous. I don’t…I don’t know how I’m gonna raise a son. How can I…teach him to shave? Or to pee standing up? And what happens when he hits puberty?”
Beau chuckled. “Well, puberty’s more than a decade off, so you’ve got some time to study. And the peeing thing just sort of comes naturally.”
He grinned at her and Lexi laughed. “Well, good.” She was quiet for a minute, scooping up a spoonful of ice cream. She swallowed and cleared her throat before voicing her biggest and only real fear.
“How do I raise him to…not be him? What if I can’t do it?” Her voice was soft. Was she allowed to admit that fear - that she was terrified of raising another Simon? She glanced at Beau, wondering if she’d see judgment there. But she should have known better.
He just nodded, his gaze sympathetic and understanding. “Babies aren’t born…evil, Lex. They’re just born needing us. You just have to love him, unconditionally, and unendingly.”
Lexi nodded. “I’m just so afraid of doing it wrong.”
Beau smiled at her and moved a bit closer on the bench. “Wanna hear my great secrets of parenthood?”
Lexi sighed. “God, yes.”
With a chuckle, he continued. “Well, I think kids need two things to thrive and be happy. Boundaries and respect.” He shrugged a broad shoulder. “Kids crave boundaries. They need to know what’s allowed and what’s not. It makes them feel safe. And they also deserve our respect. We should respect their boundaries too, and respect their intelligence by not talking down to them, or ignoring their thoughts and opinions. Even when they're really little, they wanna be heard and they want to know they matter.”
He shrugged again. “Can’t go wrong if you stick with those two pillars.” He smiled softly. “And fill it all in with lots and lots of love.”
Lexi had tears in her eyes and she blinked them away, staring at him, a little bit in awe. She shook her head. “Is that how your parents raised you? Is that how you turned out like this?”
Beau laughed warmly. “Well, they don’t deserve all the blame for how I turned out, but yeah, basically. A big part of who I am now is the foundation I was given. But, you know, they were also parents in the 80s and 90s, so…they weren’t perfect. Gentle parenting was definitely not a thing.”
Lexi laughed with him and then put her hand on his where it rested in his lap. “Well, whatever they did, it worked wonders.” She bit her bottom lip. “I’ve never known a better man than you.”
Beau breathed in deeply through his nose, his chest expanding as Lexi moved closer. His hand twitched beneath hers and she entwined her fingers with his. She looked down at their joined hands and then up at Beau. His eyes caught on her lips again for a moment, and then he turned his head away.
“Lexi,” he started and then seemed to stall.
He caught her gaze again as she shifted even closer, and his eyes were warm with want.
She lifted her hand to trail her fingers down his jaw, the silky feel of his beard making her sigh.
“Kiss me?” She asked softly as she looked at his mouth and craved the feel of it on her own.
“Lexi.” He said again, but this time it was full of caution.
She shook her head, her expression questioning. “Do you not want to?”
A rough laugh burst out of him and he put his hand on top of hers where it rested on his cheek. “That’s really not the problem.”
Lexi shrugged. “Then there really is no problem.”
She smiled at him and saw the moment he caved. His face lost its worry and left behind only passion as his mouth descended on hers. Beau’s lips were silky and plump as he brushed them gently against hers. The first touch made her gasp; the second made her moan softly and dart her tongue out to taste his full bottom lip.
The action made Beau grunt, taking his hand off of hers and pushing it into her hair. He opened his mouth and caught her next moan on his tongue as he slipped it inside. He tangled it up with hers, tasting and teasing her as he sipped at her lips. He moved both hands to her cheeks and tilted her head so he could delve deeper.
She’d never been kissed like this, never felt like this. She was completely consumed in mere moments, completely lost in the way his mouth moved on hers, the way his rough palms felt against her skin. She wanted so much more; the kiss wasn’t slaking her thirst for him, it was increasing it, making her desperate for more.
Finally though, Beau wrenched his mouth from hers with a sucking noise that sounded obscene and made Lexi shiver. His warm breath fanned her cheek as touched his forehead to hers.
“Oh sweetheart.” He said on an exhale. “We can’t do this.” He corrected himself. “I mean, I can’t do this. It’s wrong.”
Lexi was still breathless. “Is it?” She asked. “Why?”
Beau pulled further back, dropping his hands from her, and shook his head. “You know why. I’d be taking advantage of you.”
“Would you? I thought I was the one who asked for the kiss.”
Beau gave her a look. “Lexi.” He said again, the caution back in his tone, “You’re vulnerable right now, and it’s an asshole move to take advantage of that.”
“Really? Cause I think I’m stronger than I’ve ever been in my life right now.”
“That’s not what I mean…it’s just…” He shook his head again and stood up, putting even more distance between them. “I never should have let this happen. I’m sorry.”
Lexi began to feel embarrassment slipping in and she stood up too, waving her hand dismissively.
“Hey look, it’s no big deal. We don’t have to make it into more than it was okay?” She patted his forearm. “Let’s just say it was a nice afternoon and leave it at that.” She gave him another smile and she hoped it looked more believable than it felt.
“Lex I- “ Beau began, but she shook her head and started walking away.
“No, we’re good.”
Despite the distance she’d put between them, she still heard him curse quietly as he followed. She hoped the curse wasn’t directed towards her, and hoped the kiss hadn’t just ruined something beautiful between them.

intro 🥧
fem | she/her | 20s | brit trying to write american (send help)
hi, i'm winnie! this is my writing blog, but you may also know me as @winchesterdefender
i'll be sharing my fics here instead of on winchesterdefender as they were getting lost in all the other stuff i reblog lol.
✨about me✨
i love supernatural sister fics! casual shipper of most spn pairings (i'm just touch starved and love love).
not big on rpf as they are in fact real people with real partners and real lives (just my opinion!).
living vicariously through fictional (traumatised) people.
requests are open but i can't promise i'll get to them quickly as i am a student & work part time (also i just suck sometimes).
🍂masterlist🍂
tag - #winniewrites
🖋 my requests are open! 🖋
i take requests for:
Supernatural
Soldier Boy (the Boys)
Beau Arlen (Big Sky)
Marvel (mostly Bucky tbh)
Mattheo Riddle & slytherin boys
honestly open to lots, just ask!
mostly sfw but will label all fics with content and trigger warnings. if you're under 18 you probably shouldn't interact but let's be real, we all read smut when we were way too young, and i ain't a hypocrite
in the works:
spn: OFC Meg Winchester (sister) one shots & headcanons

The Fix - Epilogue
Summary: Everyone has a past, but yours seemed to haunt you. You've tried to move forward with a normal life, but the day comes when that's not possible anymore. When Sheriff Beau Arlen enters your life, you're certain he is going to judge you just like everyone else in town does. But something about Beau is different.
Word Count: ~2k
Warnings: Slight language, nothing serious. Fluff!
“Mama! Emily said she’d help me build a snowman. Can I go?” Bailey tugged on her mittens and her winter hat, knowing your instructions before braving the bitter air.
A small laugh tumbled through your lips as you nodded. “Hold on, let me zip you up,” you set down your mug of tea and knelt in front of her before you grasped the metal zipper. “You remember the rules?” You prompted her.
“Stay close where you can see,” she recited with a proud grin.
“Good,” you kissed her cheek and nodded towards the door with approval. She bolted past you with a quick, ‘Thanks, Mama!’ over her shoulder.
You pulled yourself back to your feet and reached for your own winter coat. After you were prepared for the bitter December wind, you grabbed your mug and headed out to the porch to greet Beau as he walked up the path.
He ruffled Bailey’s hat a bit as she hurried past, but stopped her to straighten it out so it would cover her ears.
“Hey, handsome,” you chimed from the front door. His gaze found yours and a wide smile pulled across his lips.
“Hiya, darlin’,” he crooned.
It had been two months since Jackson had been arrested and made a deal with the FBI. He was still in FBI custody, but that hadn’t brought you much peace.
Beau had gone out immediately and purchased trail cameras for every corner of your home, and out on the property as well. He had also insisted you practice firearm training (though you had to admit, it was hard at first but you didn’t mind the closeness to Beau that came along with it).
Beau ended up crashing at your house nine times out of ten. He said it was safer, and he wouldn’t sleep well if he wasn’t there. You thought back to the first night Beau ended up in your bed.
“It’s late, darlin’,” Beau had glanced at the watch on his wrist as he stifled a yawn. His eyes were hazy and reddened.
Your teeth found the inside of your bottom lip as you processed the thoughts that drifted through your brain. “I know, I just like talking to you.”
A chuckle fell from his lips. “I like talkin’ to you, too. But we both need sleep.” He had stood and started to gather the pillows and blankets you had grabbed for his make-shift bed on your sofa.
“You can’t possibly get good sleep out here on the couch,” you toyed with the idea—it was like putting out a bone and seeing if he would take it. His eyes landed on you and he watched you closely.
“Do you have a guest bedroom you haven’t told me about?” Damn, he was really going to make you work for it. Heat had risen in your cheeks and you stumbled over some ‘uh's’ and there was an ‘um’ in there, somewhere. Beau chuckled again. “Are you askin’ me to sleep in your bed, darlin’?” The gruffness of his voice made your entire body shiver.
After a brief pause, your voice was almost a whisper. “Would you want to sleep in my bed, Beau?”
A smile pulled at the corners of his lips. “I’d like that, if you’d like that, too,” his tone matched yours.
“What’re you thinkin’ about, darlin’?” Beau’s drawl interrupted your memories as you both sat in rocking chairs watching your daughters build a snowman. Your eyes found his and you smiled.
“Just how we’ve gotten here. If you had told me this would be my life two months ago, I wouldn’t have believed you,” the cold air stung your eyes as tears had formed. With a glove covered hand, you quickly reached up to push them away.
Beau had somehow gotten used to your emotions, but he still watched you carefully. “Are you happy? With life, and how things are, I mean?” He asked carefully.
“Beau Arlen, you should absolutely know the answer to that,” you reached out to brush the side of his face. “I have truly never been happier.” You paused as he reached out to hold your hand in his. “Are you happy? I know we were kinda thrown into this world we’re living in…it’s not necessarily something you signed up for.”
He leaned towards you and you felt his lips against yours. “Darlin’,” he breathed. “I would sign up for this life with you and Bailey every day over again.” You kissed him once more. Beau pulled back for a moment and shuffled through his coat pocket as you heard the buzz from his vibrating cell phone. “One sec, sweetheart.” He pushed the phone to his ear as he answered. “Sheriff Arlen,” he said–the sweetness to his tone dissipated.
In the two months you had been with Beau, you found it hard to ignore his work calls. Most of the time he got a call to assist with a car accident, or maybe a wellness check on an elderly neighbor. But you could never be certain–you always held your breath in case he got the call; the one where you would find out that Jackson was being released.
Beau stood from his spot on the rocking chair and began to pace, that was your first sign that this was a more serious call. And then his eyes landed on you. When he realized you were studying him, he looked away almost instantly. This call was most certainly about you–or about Jackson, rather.
“Alright, that’s good,” he spoke carefully as he paced. “What’s that mean for…for uh, for the victims?” His eyes wanted to look at you but he couldn’t just yet. You tried to stay calmly seated on the rocking chair, but no longer could. You stood to your feet and glanced back at Emily and Bailey, as if looking away for a second would bring harm to one of them. After a much longer pause than you thought necessary, Beau’s feet stopped pacing and he stood with his back to you. “You’re kiddin’ me,” he breathed. You couldn’t tell yet if that was good or bad–you assumed bad. “Well, damn.” His breath fogged around him and there was a slight chuckle to his words and tone. A chuckle? You wanted to scream out and ask him what that meant, but you knew you had to be calm.
He turned back to look at you again, this time a wide smile on his lips. “Ya know what, Matt Donahue?” Beau’s grin practically touched his ears, and now you had confirmation this call was about your case, as Matt was the FBI agent working it. “You’re not a son-of-a-bitch after all…” he trailed off with a laugh as he stepped towards you. The phone was still pressed to his ear as he listened. “Yeah, yeah, I hope I never see you again, too.” He laughed. “But hey, thanks…thanks a lot.”
He pulled the phone away and ended the call.
“My heart feels like it’s about to explode, please tell me what’s happening,” you breathed as Beau gripped your hands in his just as he stood before you.
“They caught the last drug boss, he’s in the FBI’s custody as we speak,” Beau started. You wanted to urge him to continue.
“So Jackson gets released?” Your heart had already sunk down the confines of your rib cage and into the pit of your stomach; you couldn’t understand how Beau was excited about this.
Beau shook his head from side to side, a gleam of happiness in his eyes. “When the FBI made this deal with Jackson, they had only charged him with kidnapping, felony gun possession and drug trafficking. They didn’t charge him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.” He began to explain. You weren’t following. “So the deal was only good for the charges he faced at the time. And just now, the DA charged him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He can’t make a deal on that.”
Beau waited a minute for it to set in. “So…he’s not getting released?” The words were soft but he heard them.
“He’s not gettin’ released,” Beau confirmed with a smile. You blinked as you processed. “It’s a little bit of a shady practice, but for once, I don’t feel bad about it. We’ll get to prosecute him here in Big Sky. We can’t bring up anything he made a deal on, but attempted on a LEO is a big deal. Dependin’ on if they can charge him with first or second, we’re lookin’ at a minimum of thirty years in prison, sweetheart.”
It felt like you might fall over as your knees weakened. Beau seemed to recognize that as he led you back to the rocking chair. After blinking a few more times, your gaze found Emily and Bailey laughing in the snow as they tied a scarf just below their snowman’s head. The feeling of Beau’s calloused fingertips on your cheek brought you back into the moment.
“Hey,” he breathed with a smile, and for a second, you thought you saw his eyes glaze over. “He’s never gonna hurt you again. He’s never gonna be near Bailey again. This seals it.”
You finally managed to speak. “I, uh, I guess you can go home now.” You laughed half-heartedly as you sniffled–partially from the cold but mostly from the emotion that had overcome you at that point.
“I’d really like to be here, with you and Bailey. If that’s alright with you…” his voice warmed your chest as he spoke, but all you could muster was a nod to refrain from sobbing.
Beau pulled you tightly to his chest and you held on as if your life depended on it; and in that moment, it felt like it did.
That night, after Bailey had gone to bed, Beau had turned on the radio to an old FM station that played smooth jazz and alternative rock, two sounds that neither of you hardly ever listened to. But when the soft piano started to play, he held his hand out for you to take.
You couldn’t help but laugh–while you hadn’t shared the reason for your excitement with Bailey or Emily, the two of you had relished in the feeling together. You could see it in the way you looked at each other all night over dinner, or the way Beau had built a pillow fort with Bailey after Emily headed out to meet a friend at the movie theater, and in the way he had pulled you to him before you put Bailey to bed and kissed you like everything was right in the world.
And now you felt it in the way his left hand held your right, and his other hand found the small of your back. Your head moved to his shoulder and found comfort in the crook of his neck as the two of you slow-danced in the middle of your kitchen to the soft sounds you finally recognized as Coldplay.
“Coldplay? Really?” You practically snorted as you pulled your head from his shoulder.
“Shh,” he hushed you playfully. “It’s a good song, alright?”
“Mr. Arlen, I didn’t think you listened to anything that didn’t have a banjo in the background–or foreground, for that matter,” you laughed. You had done a lot of that this evening–laugh, that is.
“Alright, alright,” he grumbled. “You gonna let me spin you around this kitchen? I can always put somethin’ with a banjo on…” he threatened.
“No, no,” you quickly hushed with a giggle. “I’ll shut up…”
He returned his focus to spinning you around the kitchen, just as promised. Every time he pulled you back to his chest, his lips left a gentle kiss on your hairline.
You couldn’t help but watch him as you listened to the lyrics. Before you could be too overcome with emotion, your lips found his. When you had met Beau Arlen, you were two partially broken people. And somehow, someway–you had managed to put yourselves back together, and you were grateful for this new beginning.
Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you.
AHH, okay - so - I apologize. I realize it is not Wednesday, lol. I really, really struggled with this epilogue. I actually ended up wiping the entire thing on Wednesday and re-writing it because I just wasn't happy with it. I hope this wraps everything up nicely with a pretty bow for you.
I really struggled with the whole "let's be sneaky and screw Jackson on a deal" thing, because honesty and integrity are really important to me. But then I remembered how shitty of a human Jackson is (as a reminder: he beat his wife on the regular, he was trafficking drugs that kill people every day, he shot MO [one of the most beloved deputies with a kind heart and soul], kidnapped his kid, held Beau and his ex-wife at gun point, etc.) and decided to run with it. I hope you don't hate it?
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all of you for reading, reblogging, liking and commenting on this series. It has really brought me so much joy to read what you all think and over the last month or so. While this is the end of the series, I hope to come back with some one shots associated with these characters in the future.
And with that, this series is COMPLETE!

Multiverse News: Week 2
Greetings, fellow travelers! It’s your favorite hot mess speaking! 🖖
I already knew chances of me doing this weekly were slim, but I’ll be giving these Sunday updates as much as I can! Work was a little crazy the past two weeks, I already miss my vacation days, and my hopes of having an easier next week got crushed on Friday. Naturally, I didn’t have a lot of time to write and read the last two weeks, but I’ll share all the series I’m currently reading and the few WIPs I’ve worked since the last update 😊
I’ve also reached 800 followers (even after blocking a million porn bots 🤣), so THANK YOU so much for stumbling onto this blog and indulging in my little stories. I love and appreciate all of you more than you can ever imagine 😭🖤🖤🖤
I initially wanted to celebrate by opening requests, so I can thank you properly by writing some storylines you want, but since work is crazy and I’m behind on literally everything, I don’t think it’s a good idea for now. Hopefully, things will clear up soon and we can do something fun to celebrate this milestone together 🥳🥂
Currently reading 🤓
A Supernatural Journey by @eevvvaa Dean Winchester x OFC, Sam Winchester x OFC Author’s summary: After an unplanned event in their road trip, Emily and Eva crossed paths with two brothers. Nightingale by @trektraveler Jensen Ackles x Reader Author’s summary: Jensen Ackles seemed to have it all. A hit television series fifteen years running, a budding music career and a stunning wife. To the casual observer, his life was perfect. But it was a façade. No more real than the supernatural world created on a soundstage. That day on the lake had started with uncertainty, but when he pulled you from the water everything became clear. The truth was, he’d been the one drowning.
That Simple by @avanatural Beau Arlen x Reader Author’s summary: Beau goes to Y/N, a new friend of his, for some dating advice. Is the charming new sheriff gonna get the date that he’s hoping for?

GO CHECK OUT ALL THESE AMAZING STORIES AND AUTHORS IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY! 🖤
Series Updates:
DBM: Currently reworking chapter 2. It was too funny and casual. Dean needs to be more broken and devastated. I’m going for that full heartbreak here. Tears, sobs – you shouldn’t be able to function when I’m done with this chapter. You’re welcome.
PH: Finished part 19 and realized it’s the longest of the series yet. Currently, it’s at 5.8k. I already tried to think of scenes to cut and while there are some I could live without plotwise, they’re hilarious and I don’t want to erase those laughs. So, should I split it into two parts instead or can we live with this? Let me know! I’m also halfway through part 20. It’s intense and pretty much follows an episode of the show, which I always found important, so I didn’t want to change too much about it, not even the dialogue. I hope I’m doing it justice in the end ☺️
⚠️ PS: In case you missed it, Part 11 posted yesterday and Parts 12-16 follow this week! Get ready! It’s a pretty wild batch! 🤪
Upcoming One-Shots:
Labyrinth: Started writing it this week for a request (the Wendigo hunt). Currently 1.7k words in. The beginning is a bit creepy because Wendigos were always the monsters that freaked me out the most (because they remind me of the horror movie The Descent and that one always scares me to death.) But Dean’s close to saving her and then there’s all the fluff you could possibly get 🥰
Mercilessly: Giving it the finishing touches. Was initially planning to post it on Dean’s bday, but my work schedule won’t allow me to finish it in time. My muse is also in a fluff mood apparently and not up for evil scheming. I’m as surprised as you are, guys...

PROLOGUE
Beau Arlen steps out of Dewell & Hoyt Investigation Agency into the bright morning sunshine that’s deceptively masking the crisp nip in the morning air signifying winter isn't far off.
Slipping on his sunglasses, he gazes across the street scrutinizing a group gathered outside a lawyer's office. Judging by their attire, they’re from the country club set except for one hidden under a Stetson and duster.
The now permanent sheriff of Lewis and Clark County hears the door open as Denise Brisbane, the agency’s indispensable assistant and his incorrigible flirt, comes out. “Ohh, that can’t be good.”
“Who’s the bigmouth?”
“Holland Stanley.”
“As in running for state senator Holland Stanley?”
“The same. Along with being involved in other various enterprises. Looks like the Stanley patriarchs' will reading isn’t going over well.” They continued watching when Holland noticed them redirecting his ire, “What the fuck you gawking at? Goddamn noisy vé'ho'e!” The accompanying rude gesture was the last straw for Arlen.
He starts off the curb when Denise makes a squeaky noise and grabs his arm, “Best not to have a public confrontation. You don’t want the Stanleys as enemies, trust me.” She glances back across the street and the Stetson-wearer nods at her in acknowledgment.
“Thanks for the update, Pop’s,” Arlen hung up with an amused chuckle, “so someone called in about Holland raising holy hell over someone named Rain or…what’s with the faces ladies?”
“No faces here,” Denise says with a fake, innocent expression. She glances at her boss, Cassie Dewell, for backup and sees it's not happening. “Okay, there might be something.”
“What might be something?”
They all turn to see Jenny Hoyt, Cassie’s business partner and Arlen's undersheriff, come in noticing everyone acting off and calls them on it. “Okay, what’s going on?” Cassie decides to take one for the team, “Denise thinks she saw Reina Stanley outside the lawyers across the street.” She watched her partner's composer shift coolly asking, “You sure it’s her?”
“I know it’s been like a decade since anyone has seen her but,“ Denise stopped when Hoyt did that thing with her mouth when irritated. Before Arlen could ask what the deal was his phone went off. “There was a bank robbery in Jefferson City…” Hoyt doesn’t wait for him to finish and turning on her stacked bootheels storms out yelling, “I’m driving!”
“Ladies,” Arlen says hastily exiting and when they hear Hoyt’s Bronco peel out Denise says, “Well, that went great,” to which Cassie just shakes her head.
