Well, I’ve ended this stupid year with a pleasant watercolor based on a photo my dad took on vacation: beargrass in the northern Rockies. I’m envious, so this is how I lived vicariously. Considering how long my watercolor hiatus has been, this turned out pretty well (especially since hot press paper is tricky for landscapes and I didn’t bring my masking fluid!)
Watercolors in question are from Winsor & Newton and Beam paints, the latter of which I got recently and love using so far! Highly recommended, and I’m already planning which paints I want to add next!

hi snuggle muffin
so you said Alicia is mysterious right now but like..how?? i played the game and this bitch is just kinda open. like,, dead gf, mean, somehow has gray hair. everything kinda checks out so like maybe explain a little more???? also,, what is she to bureaucracy?? bc she seems to not like him very much. oh and, what happened with beargrass and his family? since they were like. rude gazillionares or whatever
hiiii electtra; ilysm fooor this ask because i love the chance to be a little annoyying about my favorite mean women (even though you just made me go through hell with your other one.)
youre absolutely right about her being open, but the thing is that it feels more like the false-openness. Like, realistically,, the player really only knows most this stuff from context clues!! Techincally, she never techincally admitted to having a dead gf, but beaford literally just made a wlw and dried lilys joke and alicia freezed up like a fish out of water. So. You sorta realize.
Also, we really only know tidbits of her motives and stuff, but thats it. theyre only small bits. She has a board in the office about a hotel incident from three years ago; is it just a random story? Is it something she was apart of? Did dried lily girl die in it? What about it ??? ALICIIA PLEASE!!!!!! Plus, her motives to bringing Beaford back on the surface ARE what she says it is. Repay for making Alicia go through that shit because he got possessed by some demon. But also; he's probably one of the first examples of the supernatural ACTUALLY being the supernatural in her experince. And what do we know she is?? Skepticle of the super natural. So seeing a whole ass demon possess this really pathetic college drop out is defiently something Alicia finds horribly important considering shes searching for some proof to the super natural. Because really guys.. do you think Alicia Wilkershire went to her highschool guidance counselor sayng she wanted to be an ordained minister and excorist? Yeah, no. That is NOT how it works!!!!!
Alsoooo, i think her and beaford have both a really complicated and a really simple relationship simultaneously. Because on one hand; they are what they are on the surface. Beaford works for Alicia to pay back for the shit he pulled with that demon possession thing. On the other hand; there's WAY more than that.
Alicia is not a very warm and kind person, by like, any means. She's over six feet tall, spicaze herself described her as mean, and she literally repeteadly kicks at beaford WHILE HES DOWN even after the demon stopped possessing him actively. But shes seen being at least a lot kinder with beaford. She watched that one anime with him not even a month into knowing him (even if she bemoans it, actively) and even went far enough to find a reedeeming quality in it (I.E the fashion) !!!!! She lets him poke fun at him (even though, to be fair, she absolutely decks him everytime he does.) And to be frank; this is not stuff that Alicia do with just any person. We can tell shes awkward with most clients; but even when first meeting beaford, she was way more casual and comofortably speaking then she does with Naomi (who she has to lean back on Beaford to talk to !!!!)
Obviously this doesnt take away fromt he fact Alicia IS still a bit (very) mean to beaford. But it's just. Way different from how she treats others. Which is why I'm very convinced its because Beaford reminds her of dried lily girl; especially consdering the aspect of how they have VERY similar speech traits and personailities in regards to Alicia (Poking fun at her, seeing her differently than others do, etc..) especially consdering the conversation we see in the knife ending where Alicia is (presumably) speaking to dried lily in the after life.
Also. I'm pretty sure its canon that Beaford just up and left without saying anything. His family is obviously very rigid in the fact that theyre all doctors and expect the same from Beaford. Plus considering his shock at seeing the photo of him and sister still in his sisters room-- I can really only presume his home life wasn't really the best. So him just up and leaving isnt too shocking/unwarranted
Anyways I really lvoe these two and i'll probably make a post later about them. Thank you Electra. Your sins have been forgiven.

I learned most of what I know about botany in and around this location. I remember being mystified by the infloresences of Xerophyllum tenax bobbing like cat's tails poking up from the earth. The epitome of springtime wonder. I saw my first megabloom of beargrass at Blair Lake, I'd bet I've said hi to these very plants. I certainly recognise the trail.
Beautiful photography.
Wildcrafting is stewardship. Its always good to ponder, what does land stewardship mean to you?

Sorting the shop out this morning I came across this... a tied bunch I made on the 23rd December, that had somehow got wedged in between some shelves and has been 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 for almost 2 weeks... now, it's not looking perfect but imagine how incredible they'd still be looking if they'd been looked after! Yes, we are more expensive than supermarkets (and rightly so) but this is why. Quality is always worth that little extra 💐 #flowers #fareham #farehamflowers #farehamflorist #farehamflowershop #shoplocal #backtowork #roses #beargrass #bear #natural #quality #incredible #thirsty #moonstones #flowerlovers #loveflowers #wednesdaywonder https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm_RxY7IaMU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

vacation flowers.. 🤯🤩 what were ur faves and do u have pics!!!? 😁😽🫶
ok yay hi abby from SEVERAL days ago… time to tell you about some flowers 🫶
ok so here’s a beargrass which looks fluffy but isn't and it's weird and funny looking and only really grows in like western north america, like fire country america, because it's a plant that grows back very fast after fires. the second one is a lupine (from when i was at grand teton and there was a place called the lupine meadow and frankly there was NOT a lot of these damn lupines in that meadow...) which is another western north america wildflower and grows easily back after fires. i like lupines because they look sort of like if a delphinium was fucked up, and i almost grew them in my garden this year but my mom said she thought they were ugly so we didn't get those seeds. which is just as well because they probably wouldn't have grown well a la the delphiniums i attempted two years ago... anyway the third one in this row is a sagebrush which grows all over the place in montana and wyoming and idaho, like on the side of the road in fields with cows and shit which is crazyyyy to me because there's no way it's fun for the cows to have their grass all crowded up with these nasty bushes they're not going to eat...
and then the interesting thing about these purple ones is that they were growing in the hot springs in yellowstone, which is basically volcanic ground where not much grows. and the second one is a thistle that i just thought looked a little insane, like she's huge... and the third one is scarlet trumpet, another classic western north america wildflower, and they allegedly can grow to 6 feet tall!
and then these are indian paintbrushes/scarlet paintbrushes (i saw both names equally as often idk girl) that i think i already talked about but i just loved them <3 i actually got a pair of earrings that had a pattern of this flower on them because i liked them so much... yay flowers boooo not being able to grow them at home due to the climate differences! and the last one is a larkspur which is a kind of delphinium but not the kind that looks like a tower of flowers like a lupine. heart

happy friyay folks! just one more day until member reserves begin, and we can't wait to see more of what y'all have planned soon! incase you aren't already, feel free to jump in our discord to say an early hello! today we're diving into sable grove, ga - the sleepier of the two locations that make up bennington bay. while technically slightly smaller in population, it's expansive and focuses on a neighborly friendliness that it feels it's high-rise counterpart lacks. view more about its history and six neighborhoods below!
✨ explore sable grove, ga ✨
sable grove as a residential town sprung up across the bay from remington during the 1830s/1840s. the area attracted those looking to get rich quick and eventually grew from a sleepy gold claim to the attractive town it is today. nowadays, if you visit the town, you’ll find period architecture in the trendy historical downtown area, which is host to thriving commerce and beautiful green spaces, and places such as the charming independent art house cameo cinema on main street. or maybe a stroll down the st. veil pier at dusk or dining at one of the restaurants in the harbor is more your speed. the town is the proud home of the sable grove wolverines, two-time state football champions, and national runner-ups, and the small-town suburban feel often attracts families looking for somewhere quieter than the city to settle down. to the south is beargrass national park, thorpe lighthouse, and beautiful beaches with pristine sand and opportunities to see local flora and fauna.
harborview
population - 8816 | price point - $$ to $$$$
harborview is an eclectic collection of charming bars, taverns, and restaurants all spread throughout the harbor. stop in at the bayfront tavern for a beer or to peruse their cocktail menu, or head to the boatyard, where you can find delicious caught-fresh today seafood dishes. the pride and joy of harborview is st. veil pier, home to pop-up street food nights if you’re looking for a bite to eat illuminated by multicolored string lights. you’ll also find the harbor marina here, with moorings for yachts and small boats. the housing in this area, though limited, is mostly midrange apartments above the various businesses along the seafront as well as some properties on the waterfront, as well as some higher-end waterfront properties.
hazelhurst
population - 18101 | price point - $$$ to $$$$
hazelhurst is the educational hub in sable grove. home to the jump cannon planetarium and observatory, which is just a short bus ride for kids to visit from the nearby elementary, middle, and high schools. the area here is full of green spaces and sports fields, and the local high school football and soccer teams have an enviable track record (go wolverines!) and huge crowds flock to watch them play. halley’s park is a popular haunt for dog walkers, picnickers, and hosts the annual county fair when it comes to town. the housing here is predominantly family homes, hitting the upper mid-range, with parents often moving here to ensure their child is in the catchment area and within easy distance to the schools.
maconville
population - 15649 | price point - $$$$ to $$$$$
maconville is most well-known for its gated community. beachfront property in a beautiful location as far removed from the lanes as you can get in the town. here you’ll find boutique shops and carefully planned streets and buildings. maconville is also home to the bennington golf & country club, where you can play a round of golf against the backdrop of the bay and then have mimosas at the bar. there’s also the maconville outdoor pool which is popular with families and kids, especially in the hot summer months. housing here is upmarket and expensive, and the area also has a thriving boutique hotel and holiday lets for you to enjoy the beautiful location.
midway
population - 25744 | price point - $$$ to $$$$$
midway is the historical downtown district. with its neat, wide brick streets and period charm, midway is popular with locals and tourists alike. home to cameo cinema, a plethora of independent stores, and a few chain stores as well. the town hall as well as sable grove sheriff’s department can be found in this neighborhood. the area often attracts those looking to find something to do in the town: striker’s alley, a multi-entertainment facility offering bowling and arcade games, is a popular stop, or there’s the meticulous sunnyvale park which is perfect for dog walking or a picnic in the summer. the housing is mostly apartment-based and mid-range in price.
the lanes
population - 12517 | price point - $ to $$
the lanes is one neighborhood in sable grove that you won’t find on postcards. leaning more rural, the lanes on the outskirts of town is the least affluent part of the town, with not much in the way of entertainment or business. despite the deprivation, there’s a sense of community here though. hyde woods runs along the edge of the lanes, bunched up right against elmore shores, a mobile home park. some claim the woods are haunted, and many worried parent forbid their children from exploring the caves nearby. rundown in comparison to the other neighborhoods in the town, housing here is made up of small family homes, trailers, and cheaper apartment blocks.
thorpe point
population - 6173 | price point - $$ to $$$$$
thorpe point is home to several sable grove landmarks, such as the towering thorpe lighthouse, beautiful local beaches, infamous wrecks, and beargrass national park. if you enjoy water activities, sports, and being close to nature, thorpe point has some of the most iconic scenery in the area. the housing here is varied here, ranging from homes more rural in nature to beach houses right on the waterfront. due to the location, some homes fall towards the more expensive end of the scale, though price can fall the further from town you’re willing to travel and has the greatest mix of price points.

man I don't know does anybody care about how the cave from 17776 is also the last remaining home of the Oxmoor beetle, whose other significant habitat on earth is now the bougiest of three malls in the city, and both of them lie near forks of Beargrass Creek, crossing things like the ruins of the Clark family (as in, lewis-and) and the Louisville Zoo, and therefore the MegaCavern which boasts the like longest underground zip line or something but also, allegedly, massive stores of chocolate candy and the original film reel of casablanca because of the highly stable climate control natural to such a large cave, which of course is due to the limestone content in our ground that a) is the foundation of Kentucky many cave systems including the largest of them all, Mammoth Cave and also why the Zoo had that absolutely insane sinkhole collapse a few years ago that damaged several exhibits ad limestone erodes and is not the most stable, and that same year there were sinkholes all over including downtown near whiskey row which is funny because Kentucky bourbon is not only distinguished from mere whiskey by the techniques but by the limestone content of our water that contributes to its unique flavor profile, although the issue of water in Louisville is complicated as we have one of the highest rated drinking water in the country but our sewer system is aging so poorly 200 years in and every time it rains the sewage overflows into the Ohio River, already famously disgusting, and is representative of our collective failure to care for our natural environment and infrastructure, something fought against by small dedicated contingents of both the local urbanist movement best exemplified in Brandon Klayko of Broken Sidewalk (RIP) and the ecological advocates of Beargrass Thunder, who named themselves after Beargrass Creek where the mall and Eleven Jones Cave sit. and I'm supposed to just be normal about any of it? when even the best depictions of KY caves of course cannot capture the many ways the Kentucky underground matter to daily life and its people? and I haven't even tied in LUMA and the legends of Al Capone!!!
