all of my best thoughts come at 2:30 in the morning😁

for context, the chimpanzee episode of Be The Creature is one of my favorite episodes of the first season (the manatees episode being a very close second), i’ve rewatched on multiple occasions and i could probably recount the episode’s events start to finish at this point.

SO the chimpanzee episode ends with a very graphic reenactment of how illegally captured chimps get mistreated, and i’m fully aware this sequence is supposed to make you angry and uncomfortable, but every time i watch this episode i have three different questions:

Whose idea was this?

Who approved that for air?

If it was Martin’s idea, how do you think he pitched this to Chris?

The last question is my favorite one because i can just imagine Martin looking Chris in the eyes and asking “do you want to get tied to tree, shirtless, and then beat with sticks by children?” and it makes me cackle.
