True Ending

While Chat Noir protects Paris from the akuma, Ladybug convinces Gabriel to do the right thing. After the powers of the ladybug miraculous cures Gabriel from the effects of the cataclysm and fixes the other miraculous, Su-Han puts a spell on Gabriel that bars him from ever using a miraculous ever again. If he does, the spell will stop his heart and he'll die. Gabriel accepts his punishment and focuses on rebulding his family and fixing the bonds he ruined. Meanwhile, Lila, now in possession of the butterfly miraculous, is out to take revenge on Ladybug, Gabriel and Marinette. Gabriel offers Marinette an official apprentiship, which angers Lila even more and pushes her to seek out Tomoe Tsurugi. Lila offers her a chance to make Gabriel pay for breaking the engagement between Adrien and Kagami. Tomoe accepts. It's revealed Tomoe had hoped to kill Gabriel and replace him with a senti under her control, but her plan derailed when Gabriel gave the peacock to Félix. Fortunately for her, Gabriel was hit with the cataclysm and she had then hoped he'd die from that. Once again, Gabriel (with Ladybug's help) managed to ruin her plans. This alliance will give Lila the means to fund her plans and will grant her access to new powerful technology she can utilize to her advantage. As season 6 progresses, Ladybug finds herself confiding in Gabriel and Nathalie about her struggles as a hero (as Alya has her own issues to deal with and Su-Han is busy with temple business). The two adults encourage Marinette to be honest with Adrien and reveal her identity to him, but before she can, Crysalis appears and starts terrorizing Paris. Faced once again with a threat to the city, Marinette postpones her talk with Adrien, but everything goes awry when the boy discovers his father was Hawkmoth. Feeling betrayed he runs to Marinette, who has to come clean about knowing about it. Adrien asks her how, and she reveals the truth. She's Ladybug. Heartbroken, Adrien runs away. Marinette calls Gabriel and Nathalie, and together they search for Adrien. Gabriel finds him and notices an akuma flying towards him. He jumps between and gets hit by the akuma to protect Adrien. As he fights Crysalis's influence and, as he's about to transform, he tells Adrien to run, that he loves him and that he's sorry. The finale for s6 is Ladybug and Chat Noir fighting and rescuing Gabriel. Back at the mansion, the former villains and two heroes have a talk and, while Adrien can't completely forgive them for lying to him, he understands their motivations. He tells them he'll need time to process everything. Gabriel, Nathalie and Marinette understand and tell him they'll be patient. From that moment on, Gabriel and Nathalie become the confidants for the two teens, and subsequently join and become patrons of the temple in the fight against Crysalis.

The thing with Miraculous Ladybug is that it doesn't even play with classic fairytale tropes in any meaningful way other than 'Oh, the girl's the knight, while the prince is the one who needs saving from their evil parental figure,' which isn't bad on its own, but it does leave much to be desired if they're trying to say something in regards to those tropes.

Honestly, the best version I can think of in terms of a similar setup is this anime called 'Revolutionary Girl Utena' since that anime points out how harmful the objectification and abuse toward the princess, Anthy, really are, which is something they flat-out refuse to show with Adrien whose in a similar princess role. In fact, he's actually treated worse than fairy tale princesses since at least they're allowed some agency in their own stories and are the heroes or at least main characters when truly analyzed. Meanwhile, Adrien's prevented from having any amount of agency or desires of his own until he becomes nothing more than the prize for Marinette and is not even allowed the decency of being able to think about his father the way he wants, and as to content himself with thinking of horribly controlling and neglectful father as a hero who saved Paris.

I swear, one of these days, I might make an analysis comparing the fairy tale allusions in this show to Go! Princess Precure because that show actually put thought into making the main character's arc parallel the adventures of her favorite book's main character. It's also an anime that portrays princess as being capable of kicking ass and taking names instead of being damsels in distress.

I finally had time to start watching Snowfall. I finished the first episode. It's fucking great.

It's so stylized, it feels like a fairy tale almost like the way The Wolf did. Except The Wolf felt like werewolves and beauty and the beast and Tarzan, whereas this feels like gothic horror and Winter Begonia. Cold, washed out with hints of red and yellow for warmth, a thug who tries to be kind but then chooses to be cruel, an immortal who was cursed into being one, a blind girl living the fairy tale horror of trapped in a mansion and feeling she should die to escape the torment and relieve her family because they've blamed their suffering on her. She saves the immortal while hoping she dies, and the immortal asks her not to die yet. The thug wants to kill the immortal but save the girl. The complexity and simplicity of being mortal and immortal. I love it.

Writing Prompt: Slightly Flawed Cure

Ladybug's cure isn't perfect. Anything it brings back has little imperfections. Buildings may be missing some windows, plants may be another species entirely. For humans, it can manifest in different ways. If someone dies, they may wake up to something simple, like slightly shorter hair, or something drastic, like different eye and hair colour. There is incredibly low chances of permanent scars, too. Marinette is the only one left in Paris who looks exactly the same as when Akuma attacks started, and people are beginning to notice.
