I do like this premise, Anon. I’m just going to talk about BDSM dynamics and how I think they could work for SamBucky and throw in a few headcanons. It’s not necessarily NSFW, but this will be in the tag, so I’m being considerate of those who don’t want to unwittingly read the whole thing about BDSM.

I am also a firm believer that Sam Wilson should be afforded the opportunity, in fan-created content, to explore a wide gamut of experiences just like the white guys everyone writes about (so long as it’s done well and isn’t racist, homophobic, and otherwise offensive and gross).  

I love this idea. I don’t think there are many fics that go into the nuts and bolts of the core ideals and rules around a BDSM relationship, especially with SamBucky. Yes, we have some kink stories, but that’s not the same. We just see little glimpses (especially of D/s dynamics and specific kink). 

I think elements of BDSM work well with this pairing because of how negotiated these relationships have to be. How deep of an understanding you need of your partner. That at the core of healthy BDSM relationships there are the ideals of Safe, Sane, and Consensual, as well as the more generally workable and applicable Risk-Aware Consensual Kink. For me personally, I think the whole negotiation part is a lot of fun and can bring you closer to your partner because of how open you have to be. But back to Sam and Bucky.

I headcanon that their dynamic would be BD and D/s (maybe a little SM - hardly any, really). 

For D/s SamBucky, I headcanon that Sam is sub and Bucky is Dom. Sam is in a high powered position with a lot of responsibility being Captain America. At the end of the day, he relinquishes his control and Bucky takes care of him. Gives him what he needs. Bucky as a Dom is really interesting to me because he gets the chance to be in charge for a change. For him to have a shift in power dynamics, a shift where he is seen as the one holding the power. 

I am a firm believer in the duality of things. Extremes interest me, and I feel like everything exists along a scale and at each end we have polarities. Mercy and Severity; Pain and Pleasure; Control and Abandon. All of the everyday stuff is what exists in the Middle along this scale. And that’s great. Exploring the extremes with someone you trust completely can be so cathartic it’s actually hard to describe. 

With Sam and Bucky, they can represent these polarities. They’re different in so many ways, but the Middle stuff, the hero stuff, that’s where they exist together. Taking them and pushing them toward one end of the scale could be so fun. For example, Control and Abandon: 

Being who Sam is comes with a lot of societal rules about who people think he is. A preacher’s son; a soldier; a social worker; a hero. A lot of responsibility and expectation comes with who he is and how he presents himself to the community, society, and the world. We see that Sam can, at times, be reckless. He is always down for chasing a rush. Giving up control could be something that is very exciting for him. It could be something that is very therapeutic and healing for Sam. 

Bucky has been a soldier for the majority of his adult life. He is good at taking orders. Then there’s the part of his life that he had no control or choice. Being in a relationship with Sam where he is given this type of power over Sam in a highliy controlled environment could be so cathartic for him. Sam trusts him with it. Sam trusts him wholly and completely. For Bucky, it’s more about having Sam trust him than it is to be in control. 

I headcanon the BD part of their relationship to cover a couple of things:

- Military kink

- Bondage in general 

- Discipline in general 

Sometimes, I see them switch. Sam can use his ‘Captain America Voice’ in the bedroom and order Bucky around and they’ll both find it hot. Mostly, though, I see Sam calling Bucky ‘Sarge’ when he’s trying to be good for him. 

I don’t envision a lot of elaborate bondage play, and they never switch because Bucky has specific trauma around being constrained, but Sam likes a bit of rough trade. And Bucky’s more than happy to indulge Sam to please him.
