“Hmm, that’s an interesting taste.”

Chloe looked over at Red with a confused face.

She had just grabbed the two of them some food from the dining hall in the midst of their studying session and brought it back to their shared dorm. Red hadn’t told her what to grab, just telling the blue haired girl to ‘surprise her’ and had gone back to looking over a chemistry question that had been causing Chloe some trouble. The red haired girl was still at it when Chloe had come back with a variety of different foods they had been serving in the dining hall. Red had taken one of the takeout containers—the one filled with popcorn shrimp—and immediately started snacking on it while Chloe was busy laying out the rest of the food between them.

“What do you mean?” asked Chloe.

“Is it supposed to be—I dunno—spicy?” Red shrugged as she grabbed for another popcorn shrimp.

“Huh?”

‘Was Red talking about the marinara sauce?’ Chloe wondered, but it wasn’t laid out anywhere in front of them. Looking around, she spotted the little container still in the bag she had brought all of their food in.

“It’s an itchy sort of spicy, like I can feel it in the back of my throat. Can’t say I’ve ever had food like that before. Is that unique to Auradon?”

Oh no.

In less than a heartbeat, Chloe crossed whatever distance there was between her and Red and smacked the fried shrimp appetizer out of her hand.

“Wha- Hey! Mmmhf!!” Red exclaimed mid-bite when her blue haired roommate turned and stuck her hand in Red’s mouth. Chloe retracted her hand and hurled the shrimp that she had just been eating across the room.

Red felt two hands grab her face as Chloe looked her up and down with an urgency.

“Did you swallow?”

“Excuse me?”

“Red, did you swallow the shrimp? Yes or no?”

“Yea—”

Red couldn’t even get the full word out before she found herself being thrown over the shoulder of one Chloe Charming.

“Chloe! What the actual fuck is going o—owww!”

The blue haired girl had started running and accidentally smacked Red’s head into the door frame on the way out of their dorm.

But Chloe seemed to ignore her, instead opting to scream at other people in the hallway to move out of the way.

Everyone did. It’s not everyday you’d see the usually polite and demure Princess of Cinderellasburg cussing out anyone in her way while full-sprinting down the hallway with the Crown Princess of Wonderland yelling every sort of explicative known to man on her shoulder.

Principal Uma’s office was much closer than the infirmary on the other side of campus, so Chloe opted for there instead. Chloe practically kicked the door down while shouting, “Principal Uma!! We need medical help!”

“Chloe Cordelia Grace Charming, you put me down right now!”

“Girls!” exclaimed Uma who had been enjoying a peaceful night behind her desk up until now.

Chloe basically threw Red down on one of the couches as she rushed to explain, “Shrimp! Red— s-she ate shrimp!”

“What the hell, Chloe!”

“Charming, I may be from the sea, but that does not mean you get to waste my time—”

“She’s allergic! Red’s allergic!” Chloe cried in defense as she pointed to the girl on the couch, “She said the shrimp felt itchy.”

All eyes turned on Red.

Now that she mentioned it, Red did feel like she was having some trouble breathing.

“Stick her.” The Principal grabbed an Epipen from a desk drawer and threw it at Chloe.

“Wha—”

The next thing Red knew, there was a sharp needle stuck in her thigh. Red looked up slowly at Chloe, both of their mouths open in shock.

“I’m so sorry!”

“Oh you little—!”

“No time for that. Ms. Charming, grab Ms. Hearts and follow me. We’re taking the magic carpet to Auradon hospital.”

“Chloe, don’t you dare pick me up again!”

“Sorry Red, Principal Uma’s orders!”

“Nonono—ghhhuuhh!”

“Oh my sweet darling rose! I’m so so sorry that I never thought of getting you checked for seafood allergies. Are you alright?” Bridget, the Queen of Wonderland, asked as she ran to her daughter’s side.

Red sat under the covers of the hospital bed, clearly not wanting to be there. The doctors were strongly encouraging her to stay and be monitored overnight. Of course, that meant she was going to stay the night at the hospital in this itchy gown.

“Yeah, mom, I’m fine,” Red grumbled before she was pulled into a bone crushing hug by Bridget. It was still so weird to Red that she had such an affectionate mother now.

“Moooommm, you’re embarrassing me.”

In the corner of the hospital room, sat her roommate and Principal Uma. The two stood up at Bridget’s arrival.

“Thank you again, Principal Uma, for bringing my daughter here as urgently as you could.”

“No need to thank me, Queen Bridget, just doing my job,” the Principal said as the two started walking towards the entrance.

Bridget turned towards the blue haired princess, “And, Chloe, thank you for calling and telling me everything.”

“Just let me choke next time.”

All three pairs of eyes rolled at the same time.

“Tell your mother I said hi for me, alright?” Bridget continued, giving Chloe a quick hug.

“Of course, Aunt Bridget,” said Chloe as she stepped away to join Uma at the doorway. She waved at Red.

“Bye, Red, and get back soon. Wouldn’t want this incident to shrimpede your studies.”

“You’ve been working on that one for a while now, haven’t you?”

“Why yes, yes I was.”

“Get out.”

More TWST potion au brain rot except it’s where Silver’s RSA friends are often used as pillows and have admitted to being worried when he sleeps because he doesn’t look like he’s dreaming well.

Whenever they ask him what he dreams about he can only shrug.

AND THEN!!

when he happens to fall asleep on the green-haired student's shoulder (Zigvolt, his teammates murmur amongst each other, that was his name, wasn't it?), his expression has entirely changed. he breathes in the forest wild and dreams of cloudy skies, a sagging cottage held up by love and laughter, a hand gentle upon his head that practically overwhelms him with the feeling of being wanted. of being loved.

it's a peaceful dream, and yet when he wakes, the ache inside of his chest seems to have deepen tenfold, dropping into fathomless depths of a great, black sea.

they can see it on Zigvolt's face too, the recognition and reflection of sorrow as he gazes down upon the young man blinking blearily about himself, as if at a loss with his own surroundings. but they don't know what he does, they don't know that he's staring down at that helpless expression and thinking like father, like son.

if silver is the saddest man in all of twisted wonderland, then lilia vanrouge is the second.

I keep seeing this sorta stuff around and honestly it’s really interesting to me as someone who’s a big horror nerd in the boring wordy essay kinda way because I think that’s interesting about cosy horror in particular is that sorta clashing of how tf can horror be cosy? But, like, I get it. It works imo.

I personally do like cosy horror when it’s done well - mostly bc I’m in the ball park that horror doesn’t have to be visceral. I think fran bow, The path and dark wood are great examples of what could fall under cosy horror. But honestly I think that’s mostly just as they fall under the dark fairy tales catagory - anything with wretched little girls will always have a soft spot in my heart tbh

I think cosy horror is at a weird spot as a genre bc it feels like a catch all for Dark fairytales, cookie clicker/farm sims with horror undertones & folkhorror but I am kinda intrigued to see if it could actually make itself work as a genre.

I don’t think it’s against horror as a genre to want to enjoy it without feeling petrified. I think that’s why slashers are so popular - it’s the predictability that provides comfort & I feel that cosy horror sorta keeps in line with that.

Anyway have some recs that I sorta feel fall into cosy horror

Alice 1988 - film - surrealist take on alice in wonderland with stop motion taxidermy and some crazy imagery.

Fran bow - 2015 - game - Whimsical dark fairy tale following a little girls escape from a psychiatric facility. The lore from this game is spectacular & I highly recommend Miss Fortune as well by the same team if you like crying

Darkwood- 2014 - game - dark polish fairytale apocalypse, the line where body horror and botany meet, very akin annihilation. The designs in this game are to die for. It’s a resource collect by day, survive the night game but it’s not too costly if you fail.

Dredge 2023 game

In my opinion dredge is a fishing game first and anything else second. In terms of horror it’s very light on it - it’s falls more into the lovecraft inspired mystery genre to me but it has its creepy moments. It’s less in your face horror and more the subtle eerie setting. But it’s very cute - you get a little fishing boat and you just pull fucked up stuff out of the sea.

- SCRIPTING -

what is scripting? - scripting is completely optional, but most people prefer to use it to keep their thoughts down! scripting is basically just a guideline as if you were making an oc. what do they look like? how do they feel? do they have any love interests?

where should i write my script? - you can type it out, draw it, write it, jot it down, make a slideshow, a moodboard with fancy points, whatever it is-- it just has to be something that makes you the most comfortable. i typed mine + made a slideshow with my dr (dream reality) scripting and pointed everything out, but it really doesn’t matter!

how long should it be? - again, this should be FUN and enjoyable! if you feel forced to do it in any way, i recommend coming back to this post later and checking it out when you’re in a better mood my love :))) most scripts can go anywhere from just 10 jots/sentences/bullet points to 10 pages. whatever it is, it’s what makes you the most comfortable!

what should i include in my (specifically bnha) script? - for bnha specifically, if you’re shifting here, please script this: i cannot feel pain, experience any trauma, and i can only feel minimum or incur very very small amounts of pain. i am fit and comfortable wherever i am.

malleus sees magic as twisted wonderland’s life and blood, and now that his beloved will be remaining here, he’s determined to give his darling some control over it. while they can’t use magic with a magic pen, he’s heard of magicless people who make sigils, and making potions requires little magic...

he might ask from time to time if they regret it. he knows that ideally he shouldn’t be poking at an open wound, but he needs to know; what do they miss? more importantly, is it something he can help with?

not being the best at deep emotional comfort, he’d just try to act as upbeat and rowdy as it’s expected of him to keep his darling so entertained they can’t think about sad things

floyd is all for change and sudden decisions! when his darling tells him they’ve decided to stay, because they’ve learnt to love twisted wonderland and... well, him, he’s so happy he hugs them a bit too hard. oopsie!

jade rarely visits his hometown down in the ocean; he does kind of understand. he’s gotten very used to life in land, and it’s not like he’d die if he couldn’t go back home... urk, but then he’d be leaving jade behind? and azul? and goldfish?! and the baby sea otter?! and- gah, no, he wouldn’t be able to leave twisted wonderland! he’s so lucky his darling is staying with him!

now that he knows this, he’s ecstatic. even though he whines a lot about how boring his hometown is, he wants to take his darling there!! honestly, he has no clue where they’ll live once they graduate (usually, merfolk and human couples stay on land, but hey, there’s always exceptions!), but the ocean is so fun! and from what he hears, it’s nothing like the oceans back in his darling’s home!

he’s not worried at all about a non-magic person choosing to stay in twisted wonderland. sure, there might be mean people who target them, but not under floyd’s watch! he’ll make sure his darling’s life here is not only super fun, but also safe! ... and full of very, very tight hugs.

I wrote a story for @adrienaugust (you can find it here, btw) and I added three possibilities for the other names Adrien have. Canonically, we know that his fifth name is Athanase and that’s all. So, for comedy sake, I made a headcanon that his full name is Adrien Alisson Alphonse August Athanase Agreste… and because I’m totally crazy about name meanings, I decided to share this headcanon with you all (plus the meaning of each name and why I choose them)

So let’s go!

I—Adrien: I’ll start with the first canon name. It’s come from the Roman cognomen "Hadrianus," which means "from Hadria." In the days of the Roman Empire, Hadria was a town in northern Italy and the namesake of the Adriatic Sea. The Adriatic Sea is known for the dark-colored sand on its beaches, and for this reason, the name is also commonly translated as "dark one." [as said in the wiki]

I have my personal reasons to love this name, but I think that it has some “prince vibes”.

Another interesting curiosity is that the catholic Saint Adrian/Hadrian is much revered in Flanders, Germany and the north of France (Paris is a city of the north).

 II—Alisson: It means “son of noble/royal origin”.

I choose this one out of nowhere (bc I kinda like the name) and I was surprise to notice how perfect it’s for Adrien since the Graham de Vanilly seem to be kinda important and rich. I was actually thinking of the name Alistor but I didn’t find the real meaning, so I put Alisson instead. You can also read as “son of Alice” and think about Alice from Wonderland, if you want.

 III—Alphonse: It means “able to be noble”.

Yeah, another noble name. I actually remembered of Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist and I think that he and Adrien are very alike. They are sweet, gentle, brave and smart and totally adorable. I’m not gonna stop anyone that’s making plans for a FMAB au for miraculous and choose Marinette to be Mei (actually would be awesome).

We can also view the “noble” here as something related to honor and not much as a status.

 IV—August: It means “sacred, extraordinary”.

I’m not lie here. I totally choose this because of the Adrien August. And the fact that means both sacred and extraordinary just compels me to think that it’s the rightest choice I ever made.

Now, think about the image of Adrien in the show. The perfect boy, model, the sacred face of Gabriel brand… and now remember the things Adrien/Chat Noir do. The times he saves Ladybug from danger, that scene when he escaped from the cops by literally dancing, when he throwed himself with Marinette inside a train to run away from his fans… things really extraordinary, ladies and gentlemen. Our pure boy is indeed sacred and extraordinary.

Also: in the ancient Rome, a large number of emperors were called August-something. This last one is just a useless curiosity.

 V—Athanase: And we came back for another canon name. So I was even more surprised about this one because it means “immortal”. And it’s the name revealed in Chat Blanc.

And that brings a few questions of why the writers choose Athanase of all names with “A”. Maybe for its meaning? Maybe bc Chat Blanc is the only survival of Paris post-cataclysm? Maybe… for a really incidental motivation that initially doesn’t have anything with the meaning? (and things like that can happen)

Idk, I’m going crazy at this point.

 VI—Agreste: I don’t know if most of you are familiarized by the meaning of the Agreste surname but it means “rural” in French and, in Brazil’s northeastern region, it’s the name of a narrow zone between the coastal forest “zona da mata” and the semiarid “sertão” (hinterland). The name stills means something like “countryside”.

But! And here is the thing, Agreste also is the French name for a type of butterfly. The grayling butterfly (Hipparchia semele) is a species in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. It migrates to southeast in August. The male’s wings are almost entirely dark, the band being only perceptible on the hind wing in the form of a row of obsolete ochre-yellow spots. This type of butterfly has a camouflage to make it difficult to see them when they are resting on the bare ground.

i have my manga list open let’s a fucking go! 10 worst manga in random order, for bonus points i limit myself to one manga by the same author. also i didn’t include oneshots. part of it is that i can’t remember what most of them was about, part of it is that oneshots can be fucked up in a way series do not.

zettai kareshi aka absolute boyfriend. fucking absolute boyfriend. the story is about a girl who is so desperate for a boyfriend she, get this, orders one online. she gets a glorified sex robot. the whole manga is highkey horny on main but it never really goes there, so we just have a bunch of blushing virgins and gags based around a robot wanting to bang.

anastasia club. i was torn between this one and basilis no musume, but anastasia club wins by having a lead bishounen who’s the grandson of anastasia romanov, as well as including the author’s fanfic about tchaikovsky where he’s no longer gay but instead has a kid with his sister. and also there was a ghost of rasputin. i think there was also a truck running into an antique shop? and something about jumping into sea from ships?

mizu ni sumu hana. some girl sees flowers on her body, yadda yadda, gonna be a priestess or something, yadda yadda, her predecessor’s trying to kill her, her cousin slash crush is actually a dragon god, he has to sleep with her to unlock his powers which would kill her in the process. the evil guy causes an apocalypse bc he wants to fight the cousin so badly, the girl really wants to fuck even if she’s gonna die, the cousin for some reason doesn’t want to do that. finally they bang but he doesn’t consume all of her vital powers, just 99%, so she gets revived. happy end!

zetsuai. somehow even more dramatic and overblown than the anime. mind you, i only read zetsuai 1989. and apparently the sequel is even worse. anyway i think that scene were bishounen a crashes a window (was it a window???) over bishounen b’s head to hurt him but then suddenly changes his mind and shields him with his body instead, thus protecting him from danger he himself caused in the first place, is really the epitome of the series. i also think bishounen a should learn to solve problems without stabbing anyone or threatening them or anything like that.

hitomi: the vision of escaflowne. the anime was so good, how can you screw up that badly? there are new characters, most of the original cast is missing, the story makes no sense, there are almost no robots AND no romance. it’s like you took escaflowne and threw away all the essential parts.

dengeki daisy. now it probably wasn’t so bad in itself, but it was way too long, it dragged on, it was too preachy, the heroine wasn’t very likeable to me, it was ugly, if it was shorter i would forget about it but reading it was such a chore i won’t forget it anytime soon (why did i keep reading, you ask? a friend borrowed it to me)

elfen lied. it currently holds second place on my list of manga with worst art. if you were into anime in 2010 or earlier you’ve heard about it, as it was THE edgy series everyone knew. it was rightfully known for being dumb and gorey. the manga was made by someone who clearly had no idea how a human body works, but still wanted to show it being torn apart. for bonus points we have a mc who is amnesiac and on the development stage of a very young child half the time, so we get such great scenes as her pissing herself in public. fun! there’s also some philosophy and missing memories. and relationship drama, cause that’s what we were missing.

fushigi no kuni no shounen arisu. it’s about a guy accidentally becoming alice in wonderland and getting the attention of some other guy who won’t take “but i’m a guy, too” for an answer. maybe. you see, the plot kept changing every chapter. and just when the author got decided on something, it got axed. so basically, a fanservice comedy that was unfunny and unsexy.

tsutsunuke love letter, about a girl who can read minds and an asshole boyfriend. forgettable, but it gets an honorable mention for being the first manga that frustrated me so much i deleted it immediately after reading.

random walk, aka terrible teen relationships galore. everyone is fucked up and everyone believes it to be totally normal. i think my favorite was the mc's ex, who cheated on her with his tutor (she was "giving him a reward"), got with her again, and broke up with her even though he loved her because a girl had a crush on him and was soooo sad he was with someone else, she got sick and ended up in a hospital, so he started dating her because of guilt. but he actually started liking her in the end! don't you love happy endings?

2019 fic year in review

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? More. I challenged myself to post a fic a month for 2019, so I had hoped to write 12 but hadn’t fully expected that I would. I’m very pleased with myself for having met that goal (even if I didn’t technically meet it bc I didn’t post fic in September, but I’m going to call 18 fics a win anyway).

What’s your own favorite story of the year? I’ve answered other fic memes during the year about my favorite and though I’ve written more fics since then I still think my favorite is A Man About to Fly (Lewis, James/Robbie, gen). It’s just got the most perfect atmosphere of delicate longing that feels so right to me in a way I can’t quite describe. I also think it’s the fic of mine that I’ve reread the most this year.

Did you take any writing risks this year? I would call it a risk, more of a stretch or a challenge to myself, but I wrote in two new fandoms, Shetland (No Holiday, Jimmy/Duncan, mature) and Victoria (Delayed Gratification, Palmerstons, mature). I hadn’t planned to write for either fandom but the ideas for those two stories just grabbed me and then I needed them to exist and so had no choice but to write them.

Also, writing Morris Dancers (Lewis, James/Robbie, teen) in @bryndeavour‘s Night Vale AU universe was a fun challenge with the radio format, getting the Night Vale tone right, and making it fit with the fic she’d already written.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? Now that I’ve proven to myself that I can write a lot of things in one year I want to write something long again. I have two casefics I’ve been poking at off and on for a while now. One in my Lewis wingfic universe and one that follows on from my other Lewis post-s9 fics. I think the wingfic one will end up happening first, even though I’ve had the idea for the other one for something like three years, mostly just because I’ve been having a lot of fun brainstorming casefic and wingfic universe ideas with @bryndeavour.

I also have two more parts to my Shetland fic planned and a couple of WIPs I’d like to finish. And, I just started three new prompt fics (one in a fandom I haven’t written in before). I’d like to finish and post them in the next week or so just to prove I can still write short quick things and also hopefully write something for the other prompts I got.

Most popular story of the year? By kudos, Misuse of Police Resources (Lewis, James/Robbie, explicit); by comments, Over the Edge (Lewis, James/Robbie, mature). Though Over the Edge will surpass Misuse in kudos at some point because it’s much more recent and has almost as many kudos.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Delayed Gratification (Victoria, Lady Palmerston/Lord Palmerston) and No Holiday (Shetland, Jimmy/Duncan). This is no surprise at all though because Delayed Gratification is an obscure pairing in a not terribly large fandom and Shetland fandom is very tiny. So they have the least kudos but I think they have been properly appreciated in the small spaces in which they exist. I think I would also add Overture (Lewis, James/Robbie/Laura, explicit) to this list, but again, it being explicit threesome fic I’m not super surprised it doesn’t have a ton of comments or kudos bc not everyone is into that.

Most fun story to write: Winter Wonderland (Lewis, James/Robbie, explicit) and Misuse of Police Resources (Lewis, James/Robbie, explicit). Both of these grew from convos in discord chat and I think that’s part of where the fun in writing came from, snickering to my self about how people were likely to react to certain lines and feeling very clever with my use of cliches.

Most unintentionally telling story: Evening the Odds (Lewis, James/Robbie, gen). My husband is older than me (though not as much of an age difference as Robbie and James) and I do have thoughts similar to James’ in this fic from time to time.

Biggest disappointment: Not posting a fic in September. Which I know is ridiculous bc I posted so much fic but I still think about it and am annoyed with myself.

Biggest surprise: That I met and exceeded my fic a month goal and that I wrote in new fandoms. I must say I’m pretty damn proud of myself for having written so much.

A Man About To Fly - Lewis (TV) (2524 words) James/Robbie - general audiences - Episode: s07e05-06 Intelligent Design parts 1-2, Angst with a hopeful ending James looks away from Lewis’ smile and takes another sip of his pint, but it’s not Lewis now, it’s Robbie. Robbie’s smile. To say the name aloud, to have Robbie smile at him like that when he does, is a gift. A gift James has received just in time for it to no longer be useful.

Evening the Odds - Lewis (TV) (605 words) James/Robbie  - general audiences - Established Relationship, Angst, Discussion of Mortality James is beautiful, a silhouette in the dark, light from the street lamp catching his hair in an almost halo and turning the smoke bright as it drifts above the garden wall; but the beauty of the moment doesn’t outweigh Robbie’s hope that the next time James tries to give up smoking it will stick.

Misuse of Police Resources - Lewis (TV) (4275 words) James/Robbie, Laura Hobson - explicit - Light Bondage, Masturbation He should have gone with rope, then he’d be able to untie himself, but he couldn’t quite maintain the fantasy of Lewis tying him up in intricate knots, except for how he’s always doing it unintentionally. James thumps his head back against the mattress in defeat. He’s not getting out of this on his own, he’s going to have to ring someone, and there are very few someones in his life.

A garden with roses that weren’t altogether dissimilar to these.

No Holiday - Shetland (TV) (1539 words) Jimmy/Duncan - mature - Extended Scene, Episode: s05e05, Angst Duncan raises the bottle to Jimmy’s retreating back, looks up at the Merrie Dancers, and takes a hearty swig. There’s not quite enough whisky left to completely dull the echo of Jimmy’s words in his head, but he’ll give it a go.

EP - Inside Wants Out (9.5/10)

this ep is absolutely brilliant. i came knowing nothing about his discography so listening to a debut project i was not expecting what i heard. it’s so fantastic and portrays his brand so perfectly. like coming with a debut acoustic was amazing bc he really showed his incredible lyrical potential and genuine talent in guitar. his guitar abilities are out of this world in this record. i hope he did it all by himself. i’m shook by this ep but it definitely got me thinking how he made these songs on his own and how they could’ve sounded with more production. still, so beautiful and so good.

great debut album. he def did what i wanted him to do bringing back some songs from the ep and working on them. but it all sounded too much of the same thing so i got a bit bored and felt like i was listening to the same songs over and over.

couldn’t really pick a favourite song bc i was listening while cooking so I didn’t pay attention to the song titles and shit. but overall I was super pumped and impressed with the versalitity of the songs. something that i felt a lot in Room for Squares is that it was too guitar-driven so most of the songs kinda sounded the same but in this one he def improved sonically wise but still remained very cohesive. loved it!

Continuum (9.5/10)

am i too biased to say this has been my favorite album so far just because it’s also shawn’s favorite?! lol it’s truly a brilliant album though. generally the first thing i thought was that it was a different frequency from the rest of his discography so far. it’s more jazz-y, slower, calmer and yet deeper. sonically it’s very mature and soothing and so it is thematically. initially it reminded me of Jack Johnson but the comparison faded as the tracks got way more profound and unique than i expected. ooh, and his vocals are sooo good. definitely see shawn getting his vocal inspiration from this record.

Battle Studies (9/10)

as the first track started i instantly thought: this is U2-ish. but it actually wasn’t. i loved the titles of the songs playing thematically with the album title. listening to the album i noticed how john found his genre, his sound and his way of making sonics that are guitar-driven but with great drums behind supporting it. then i noticed he really doesn’t have many collaborations on his discography. half of my heart starts playing and a familiar voice starts backing up his vocals. it gets more and more familiar and as i expected it’s taylor swift’s vocals. apparently she was featured but not anymore lol i like the concept of the track in relation to their relationship and both of them singing it. cute. as the album progresses i feel cool about it. i hear a hint of country music but it is not. assassin is a very interesting song. very different from a “normal” john song with its rock inspirations. crossroads reminds me of old maroon 5 stuff. honestly i think a lot of old taylor swift sonics were inspired by john’s sound. overall, the album truly surprised me. i didn’t have high expectations and thought it would be more of the same when i played the first two songs but i genuinely was surprised. it’s a very good album and beautifully executed. assassin might be one of my new favorites.

Born and Raised (7.5/10)

this is definitely john’s folk-country era lmao the songs are very well produced but i feel like it’s a more chill and grown up record. oddly it reminded a lot of niall’s first album ‘flicker’. each song is unique still. ‘walt grace’s submarine test, january 1967′ and ‘if i ver get around to living’ are such beautifully smart songs. the songwriting, especially in the first, reminded me of taylor swift again. at the beginning i was sure i wouldn’t vibe as much because of the genre but honestly it’s a great album to enjoy and chill out. it’s his harmonica album.

Paradise Valley (6.5/10)

yeehaw johnny! i read beforehand that this would be a more country album so i didn’t come unprepared. love the bridge of ‘wildfire’ (the only part that doesn’t sound like a country song lol) and the frank ocean version is nice. i also appreciate how he incorporated his signature guitar style into these country-ish songs. although it fits the genre they still have a little bit of john in them. again, a very very chill album.

The Search for Everything (8.5/10)

this album was a pleasant surprise. initially it was a big wonder, because i didn’t know any of the songs beforehand and it seemed like it was going to be an unremarkable album. first few songs in, a country sonic demotivated me and my early assumptions were apparently becoming true, so it didn’t really excite me. then, the songs started getting more jazz-y and upbeat (something that i was terribly missing and DYING to hear in john’s discography). the whole record flipped and the songs got really interesting. i even remember listening to one of them aka ‘still feel like your man’. i loveee the interlude track ‘theme for search for everything’ and it bothered me a little bit the title ‘emoji of a wave’ in a track that is so beautiful lol anyways, i ended up loving more than i thought i would because he finally brought back some groove into this discography. to sum it up, i felt like watching a movie soundtrack. that’s how i would describe this album as.

What kind of student are you? 😭😭😭 works my ass off, attends Every. Single. Lecture. come hell or high water. (I don’t care if it’s a spot of the plague, I’M GOING). Notes that resemble an odd mix of cursive, cuneiform and chicken scratch but are fairly well organized...ish. Sometimes office hours but I didn’t start that till year 3 really??  it was more of just living in the tutoring center that did it for me?? Loved to have group study parties before finals but otherwise a loner for preetty much the rest of the year  😭 loved my program, graduated now but def need a break with lots of sleep to make up the deficit before going back for any other degrees! anything i’d change: make friends next time around.

What are your favorite pastimes? reading, painting, learning languages, goofing off on the internet, chatting with the fam, cooking, TaeKwonDo, going on walking/travel adventures and swimming OOH and taking pics. 

Do you have any regrets?  haha who doesn’t? but I try pretty hard to not dwell on them.

What is your dream job? I’d love to do a bit of everything. I’m teaching ESL right now which is a love hate relationship <3<3 but who knows, maybe I’ll do freelance editing/ online esl tutoring, computer programming or maybe even truck driving. The possibilities are endless and I’ve got time so....  

Would you like to get married? yup, one of these days. I’d love to find someone that jives with my weird shenanigans 

Do you want kids? how many? Bwahahaha aaaack?? idk i keep going back and forth on this. When I was little I wanted kids like, so much. now.... idk?? It’d take some serious consideration and discussion with my partner before I’d be comfy even considering but if I did have em, I know I’d love them and give it my all to the umteenth degree bc that’s just the way mah heart works

How many countries have you visited? Mexico, England, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Finland, Estonia.... got plans to see some more soon!! 

What was your scariest dream? torture of a loved one that i was unable to stop. yea that took a turn, sorry guys

Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahah........ short answer, no.  many reasons, but let’s just say ‘since she’s an idiot, she’s probably gonna take the long way round to find love...’
