Hi. I just want to somehow make catharsis about the whole Chenford break up going on and listen other takes on it.

Maybe Im just a girl going through Mercury Retrograde being delulu not wanting to aknowledge they are over. Having said that:

I just know this is not the end for them. But not for plot reasons that we are all speculating. I mean sure for plot reasons is necesary for Tim to get his shit together before taking the next step with Lucy (Eric said in his interview that Tim loves her and its seen in the lie detector scene and all the Tamara moving out storyline that has been going since last season they are sure heading to moving together). Also sure Lucy has suffered many things and is interesting to see her next steps.

But I just know this is for marketing reasons. They need the show to be renewed for another season and a massive cliffhanger like this one when there's a 3 weeks break between episodes where they know people will be engaged on it is a good way on getting that renewal.

They know people still watching the show because Chenford. They have stated they are endgame. But they are producers and writers and plan things ahead in order to keep the show going. Is just trust the process and the fact that they work on this and know what they are doing. I have seen many shows (most of them from ABC) to know they give the fans what they want bc in the end is a product that is sold and know that not doing something your target audience wants equals not product to be sold.

Also, even though Melissa and Eric had said that there are some things coming on Tim and Lucy on the season finale and blah blah blah. They are putting a lot of effort on the breakup promotionally speaking. The interviews released the second the episode finished, the TikToks from Melissa, the whole ice cream promo with letters to the cast about the breakup and they laughing and making jokes (also like the ig account still saying Chenford stan account) is more clear is about making the people engaged and furthermore, making the network renew the show for season 7. They are actors and know they must keep a good relationship with their fans (I mean if you make something that upset your fans then how would you keep getting called to act if you dont have people watching them for you and other actors can), what Im saying Is they are laughing and all of this because they know how it ends and know they end in a place where fans will love it, if not they are basically bullyng us lol.

So long story short: just keeping my peace of mind knowing it is just marketing. By the interviews we know somehow the season finale lets them in a good place, so if season 7 comes maybe we got time to see them making up with more time and development (things this season had been rushed bc the strike, not only here but in most shows) and if there's not season 7 it will end up with Chenford with a sort of an open finale where all points to them giving it another chance in their inmidate future.

Hope i made myself clear. Just wanted to vent haha. And lets chill and cross fingers for season 7 and an Oscar for Melissa and Eric because that break up was so CHEFF KISS like girlll I have felt that pain too.

I know that this isn't forever and I can see why they did it. I hope more people can also think about that as they calm down and as the rest of the season plays out. I'm seeing a lot of negative opinions right now and everyone is entitled to how they feel but the writers aren't dumb, they know what they're doing.

Something like this happening near the end of the season will bring attention to it and hook people in, since they'll wanna watch to see it resolved. Even though that's not gonna happen til season 7 unfortunately.

Also a lot of people criticizing the writers need to realize that the show isn't for them specifically lol. Not targeting anyone but these are commonly used tropes in tv for a reason, they aren't a personal attack. I can think of 10 ships off the top of my head that this happened to. It's a common thing, getting into a relationship that has been anticipated for so long but life gets in the way, so you need to work it out individually, then together happens a lot. And pretty much all of them come out stronger on the other side.

I'm crossing my fingers for season 7! I'm not really worried about cancelation since its rating are pretty good and it's a big streaming hit, but anything can happen unfortunately. Still, I think we're safe lol.

I still haven't rewatched the breakup scene in full because it HURTS. They both killed it but Melissa's face and inflection on her voice makes me wanna curl up and die its so heart wrenching 😭😭.

I just got cast in a show with him and like kind of want to shoot my shot and spend the summer flirting, seeing if it goes anywhere, but I also feel bad because I've liked him for so long and he just got broken up with. he's super immature though, but really so sweet at the core. but literally first night we ever really talked, we spent all night sending voice notes to each other so yeah (after the show we're in, he's in the other show I'm helping out in)

then there's the tall guy, also super immature, but he's in a show I'm helping out with, helped cast. and when I saw him, literal butterflies, and everyone was automatically saying he was my type, we were trying to find out how old he was. I just literally get butterflies thinking about him and we haven't really talked, but he's so talented and hot like idk, so that's another avenue this summer.

or we have actor guy, he's also cast in the show I'm helping out with. and idk the moment he started talking, making jokes, I just felt some sort of feelings/attraction. he seemed a lot more mature and we also didn't talk much but kept making eye contact and I'll be working a lot with him this summer too.

Main Masterlist

     You were on live, interacting with fans. They were asking you all types of questions. Even though it was your manager who told you that you should go live more often, you were still enjoying yourself even if you were tired.

     “Favorite moment on set,” you mutter, reciting a question in the overflowing comments. “Ummm, there are a lot of moments that I really love and cherish so it’s very hard to have one favorite. I do really enjoy just, like, hanging out with everybody in between takes, though. That’s always really fun.” 

     More comments come in and you see multiple people shipping you with either Tom Holland (even though he’s quite older than you and you see him as a brother) or some other male star that’s around your age. And to be honest, it makes you uncomfortable and nervous. 

     “N-nope. No crushes or relationships for me,” you answer with an uncomfortable chuckle. 

     You sit there for no longer than five more minutes before feigning tiredness and ending the live. 

     As you got into bed that night, questions were swirling through your head and your heart was heavy.

     The next day you went to school. While you were taking online classes for the most part, there were some days you had to go to the building. It never made any sense to you but you just did what you were told. 

     As you walked into first period, you sat next to your friend. Once you were in your chair, she wrapped an arm around your shoulders and brought you into her side.

     “Hey,” she said with a smile, pressing a kiss to your temple. “I’ve missed you.” 

     You greeted her back to the best of your ability; she never failed to make you flustered. Despite the fact that she was always super affectionate, you’d never quite gotten used to it. 

     You and Kai had been friends for as long as you could remember. The two of you were stuck at the hip even as you became a bigger actor and had to be away for longer periods of time. 

     As you got older, you realized that other girls don’t get as flustered as you do when their friends show them affection. You realized that they didn’t stare at their friend’s lips as they talked thinking about how soft they looked or what they would feel like against their own. No, other girls didn’t do those things. Only you did. 

     You were the only one that would get nervous when Kai decided to give you a hug or hold your hand. You were the one who stared at her lip gloss covered lips and wondered what flavor she used that day as she talked about what silly things happened over the course of the day. You were the one crushing on your best friend. 

     “So you know Jacob? The one on the basketball team?” 

     You nodded in response, pulling out your binder for the class.

     “Well, he finally asked me out!”

     Dropping your binder in surprise, you sat back up to look at Kai.

     “What?”

     “Yeah! Isn’t that great?” 

     You forced a smile and nodded. 

     “Yeah. You’ll have to tell me about it,” you responded as you saw the teacher walk in.

     While on the outside, you seemed happy, on the inside, you felt your heart shatter into a million pieces. You should’ve known better than to get your hopes up like this. There was no way she was into girls let alone you. You weren’t someone people would necessarily consider girlfriend material and you knew that. But that didn’t make this hurt any less. 

     You had always imagined confessing how you felt to Kai and it went one of two ways. The first way was the one that was nothing but pure fantasy; something out of a childish fairytale that would never come true. Kai would tell you she had feelings for you too and the two of you would begin dating without caring what others would think. The second way was reality; the cold hard truth. She would reject you and your relationship with her would never be the same again. 

     So when you went to lunch that day and listened to her ramble about her upcoming date with whatever his name was, you forced another smile on your face despite the suffocating pain you felt in your chest. You smiled despite the tightness of your throat, holding back the sobs you desperately wanted to let out. You smiled because you wanted her to be happy and you wanted to witness her happiness Even if it was at your own expense. 

     Because that’s what you do when you love someone.

     The next day, you had filming. As much as you loved Kai, you were glad you didn’t have to see her today. 

     As you made your way to your trailer, you knew that most if not all of your castmates had already figured that something was wrong. While you were typically quiet, you were still pretty bubbly with people you knew. And you were especially bubbly after a day of doing in-person school and not seeing any of the cast for the day. 

     Usually, you would greet everyone as you walked but today, you didn’t even look at them; just walked by with your head down. 

     When you got to your trailer and closed the door, you felt tears rush to your eyes. You thought you had ran out due to the fact that you practically cried yourself to sleep last night but you suppose not. 

     With a shaky sigh, you wiped them away and got ready, knowing that you were set to film soon.

     All day, you had seen the concerned glances your friends were throwing at you and if you didn’t see them, you felt them. You knew they cared and you appreciated that. But you didn’t think that this was something you were ready to talk about yet. 

     When filming for the day was over, you once again went straight to your trailer. You were more tired than usual, your happy facade draining you. Right now, all you wanted to do was spend some alone time and hopefully relax. 

     But that went to shit when you saw Elizabeth sitting in your trailer. 

     She looked up from her book with a smile when she heard you walk in.

     “Hey,” she said, placing her book down on the couch. “You ready for tonight?”      

     “Uhh what’s-what’s tonight?” 

     Lizze’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion and slight concern for a second before she wiped her face of those emotions. 

     “Girls night. With Scar, Tessa, and Brie,” she says slowly, genuinely confused as to how you could’ve forgotten when you were literally jumping for joy the minute it had been planned. 

     “Oh,” you mutter. “Uh, I have a lot of work to catch up on. I don’t know if I’ll be the best company tonight.” While it wasn’t a lie, you used it as an excuse to try to get out of the event. 

     “That’s fine. We can all help you; teamwork makes the dream work.”

     You glance up at her but immediately once you see her analyzing you. 

     “I’m gonna go take a shower.” 

     You quickly bolt to the bathroom, not wanting to spend another second in that room with her. It was obvious that she was going to grill you as soon as you went back out there but you could stall. Yeah, you were good at doing that. But you knew you couldn’t hide out forever.

     As soon as you stepped out of the bathroom, the chatting between the four other women stopped. 

     You let out a sigh and drop your dirty clothes into the hamper. 

     “I’m not getting out of this, am I?”

     “No, sweetheart,” Scarlett said with a large grin. 

     You sent a sarcastic one back before groaning and plopping down on your bed. 

     It was quiet for a moment before the women went back to conversing, not wanting to push you when you were obviously already uncomfortable and on edge. 

     “I have a crush.” 

     The four whipped their heads around and watched as you stared at the ceiling and fiddled with your fingers. 

     “What’s he like?” Scarlett asks.

     You cringe and blow out a shaky breath. 

     “They um,” you whispered. You take another breath trying to ease your shaking hands and steady your thumping heart. You clear your throat and try to speak again. “Sh-she’s nice. Really pretty,” your voice cracks on the last word as your eyes fill with tears. 

     They escaped as Brie scrambled up on the bed and pulled you into her chest.  

     “Yeah?” she asked. 

     “Mhmm,” you shakily hummed. 

     “Do you wanna tell us more about her?” 

     “No,” you croaked. “She has a date this weekend.” 

     “She doesn’t know what she’s missing out on, then,” Tessa says. “If she can’t see how great you are, then she didn’t deserve you in the first place.” 

     “Tes is right,” Liz agrees. “You wanna snuggle up and stuff your face with ice cream while we watch movies?” 

     You let out a watery chuckle before sitting up and leaning against the wall. 

     “Thank you,” you muttered. 

     Brie sat next to you and pressed a kiss to your temple.

Hi,i have this doubt. The duffers said the ending of st5 will be emotional,that some co producers cried knowing the ending and they can’t satisfy everyone with the ending.. what do you think this means? This statements scream to me that someone is gonna die,what do you think?

i think no matter what, the ending will be very emotional so they might not be referring to a main character death but that does sound like someones gonna die. i think the “not everyone will be satisfied” part could be referring to the endgame couples. not even just byler but jancy too.

also i forget her direct quote but millie said that the duffers are too attached to their characters to kill any of them and honestly shes right thats why they keep adding new characters that are written to die from the start instead of killing the og gang. maybe it’ll be different this time since its the last season and its not like theyre killing off an actor and wont be able to work with them again but idk. heres what i think:

will dying honestly just wouldnt make sense at all. they need the satisfaction of this character whos been suffering from the very first episode to get his happy ending or honestly just ANY ending/closure thats not death. i cant see them having this character suffer alone in the upside down, be possessed, be ignored by his friends and feel behind in growing up, fall in love with someone he assumes could never love him back, and then DIE???!! that’d be insane. it would be a very incomplete character arc. i unfortunately think he would be more likely to die than any of the other kids just because he has such a big role next season and killing say lucas or dustin would be so random but i do think it would just not be great writing if they killed him. for so many reasons. like there are deaths that i absolutely did not want but do make sense and are well written in the grand scheme of things, eddie being one of them. i think every death in the show so far abides to that actually, whether i wanted them to die or not but that just wouldnt be the case for will at all.

theres also the fact that every single death in the show has played a big role in the next season so if someone were to die in s5 we’d never see how that affects the characters they were closest to making THEIR character arc incomplete as well. so because of that i dont think it would be jonathan or joyce because we’d never see will cope with that, i dont think it’d be any of the og party kids for the same reason (and i honestly just dont think the duffers would kill the og boys), i dont think itd be hopper bc we wouldnt see el cope, plus she just got him back so thatd just be plain mean. and i dont think mike or will would die bc byler will happen. they wouldnt have SO much queercoding for both of them only to have them kiss maybe once and then one of them dies. itd be a waste of all the time they spent building them up. but i do believe mike will have a near death experience.

i dont think it will be el at all because like millie said, theyd never have the balls to do that, but also this would almost completely ruin byler for me. it objectively wouldnt be wrong because mike has had feelings for will this whole time but i would actually understand those who would be mad at mike for just dating will “out of nowhere” after his gf dies. it’d look so bad and like will, we need to see el truly happy to satisfyingly finish her character arc and that involves being happily single and have a very healthy wholesome friendship with mike. she and will probably would be willing to sacrifice themselves but i dont think anyone would let them go through with it.

i also think a lot of characters are just too random to die. robin, nancy, argyle, murray, lucas, dustin, erica, these are all characters that do play a big role but not one big enough that i think they may die.

then theres max. i dont think she’d die but im not as confident in this one. im not saying she wont wake up. they would have just killed her this season if they werent planning on having her wake up. she will definitely play a part in next season and i think a lot of it may be related to the state shes in. like if shes blind, she will notice things the other characters dont because theyre focusing on what theyve seen whereas max would pay more attention to what theyve heard or touched. it could be a really interesting point of view if shes blind. but it could be a situation where shes still very weak and her body hasnt fully recovered yet so shes more at risk than the others but the reason im hesitant to say she could die is the same reason i dont think hopper would die. like el, lucas is currently mourning the loss of her. she’s not dead but he did lose her and to bring her back only to lose her again for good would just be so brutal.

yall are gonna hate me for this.

this leaves one last person and believe me i am just as upset as you are but fuck i really think it might be steve. every season he is seen as a hero to these kids, hes always putting himself first before any of them and protecting them in every way he can, he always ends up getting his shit rocked, he is a fan favorite. it would be a very impactful death, much more than any of the random characters i mentioned earlier like dustin or erica. it’d have such an impact on people that i think a big reason why it hasnt happened already is because there are people who would literally stop watching if he died. ive NEVER seen a fictional character so universally loved like this so if they were ever going to kill him it’d definitely be the last season. and if they want a super emotional death that gets everyone talking, he is 100% the one to go with.

going back to how we would never see the characters cope with the loss, i think they could get away with it for this one. it would be fucking devastating for dustin especially bc he just lost eddie but steve might have helped him a lot with his death and he could take his advice for steve’s as well. and for robin it would also be so sad but i think she and dustin could find comfort in each other about it.

like i said earlier there are deaths that i really really wish didnt happen, but from a narrative perspective are well written and do make sense. steve makes sense because of how much of an impact hes had on EVERY other character. even if we dont see much interactions with some of them theres still little things that show us how close their relationship is with steve, the kids especially. we know hes closest with dustin, but mike, will, lucas, and max all still have a wholesome relationship with him and one way they showed us that was him regularly letting them into free movies through the back door of scoops ahoy. another one was him giving max and el ice cream and knowing el shouldnt be out. he also was the only one who went to lucas’ game even tho he didnt seem thrilled about his date and couldnt even sit with robin cuz she was in band. also the fact that max wrote him a letter. she didnt write any of the other older kids a letter which shows that she had a closer relationship with him than any of the older kids and one that goes beyond just being with them whenever the worlds going to shit again.

since most people would be on the same page with how close they were with him, this avoids the problem i mentioned earlier of a single character having an unresolved character arc because we never see them mourn. theres not another character i can think of that has this big of a relationship with almost everyone on the show. like robin dying would be so sad for steve but mike wouldnt be that affected. nancy dying would be so sad for mike but lucas wouldnt be that affected. erica dying would be so sad for lucas but will wouldnt be that affected, you get the gist. steve’s death would affect everyone.

i HATE to say it but it checks so many boxes on why it would objectively be a well written death for both the characters and the audience. BUT ID LOVE TO PROVEN WRONG!!!!!

So yes, she is young, and she should not have any romantic relationship with/interest in the doctor, BUT, she will probably be the same age as Rose and Yaz were and everyone was fine with those, I have seen ppl talk about how Rose was too young, but I haven't seen many ppl complain that Yaz met the doctor at 19 and is too young for it. So idk why everyone now is like "shes so young she better not be a romantic interest". Well, actually, I'm confident it's a gender thing but whatever.

Lots of ppl did think the Billie Piper/Christopher Eccleston age difference (22 and 40) was weird, but Ncuti and Millie are closer in age than them. PLUS, Matt Smith and Alex Kingston (26 and 45) were further apart by a year and I've literally never seen a single person say that it was weird that they played romantic interests or that Matt was too young, despite only being like 4 years older than Billie was.

My discussion of gender here, yes the doctor is non binary, but they are perceived by a large number of the public and fandom as the gender they present as and the gender biases still apply to the actors and the gender the doctor is presenting as. So I'm discussing men and women for the purposes of this analysis. I'm also discussing the age the doctor "presents" as (referred to as p-age), meaning, the age of the actor, or about how old I think a random person would assume they are by looking at them.

Actual Ages: 9 (40), 10 (35), 11 (26), 12 (55), 13 (36), 15 (30)

Perceived Age Range: 9 (35-45), 10 (25-40), 11 (24-35), 12 (50-70), 13 (30-40)

Also, I'm speaking in general trends and assumptions, obviously there are exceptions to such things.

Rose was perceived as younger than Yaz and Ryan seemed to be, both in universe and in the fandom. Rose was referred to as a child frequently, her relationship with her mother emphasized her age, and it was shown to be odd that she was traveling with a 40 year old man, but Jodie was only 4 years younger than him. 9 and 13 presented in a similar age range and never once was the age difference brought up in regard to Yaz or Ryan. Graham was often treated as way older than the group despite being only a bit further from the doctors p-age than Ryan/Yaz.

Part of this could be gender, but, David Tennant was about the same age as Jodie and they were perceived very similarly to each other age-wise in universe, generally younger but still established (out of their 20s) adults. So it's probably more likely Christopher Eccleston was perceived as older, both due to physical appearance and character behavior. 9 acted more serious and severe and just older than 10 or 13. 9 and 12 are the only two who acted like old ppl consistently, 10, 11, and 13 acted much more youthful, which lines up with the ages of the actors.

Both 10 and 13 were the same age (35 and 36), although I think 13 was often perceived as younger than 10 because she was a woman. Some would argue she acted younger/less mature, but I think those traits were also displayed by 10, but 13 was perceived differently bc of the unconscious infantilization of women. There were some parts where she seemed to act younger, more similar to 11 (talking about cookies, easily distracted "puppy behavior") but, even then, she may have been encouraged to act like that because cast/crew perceived her as younger bc of her gender.

Speaking of "similar to 11", 11 was the youngest looking, but although a lot of the time he acted goofy and less mature, Matt played the "timeless being with a young face" very well, and despite his youth he did an amazing job at acting weary and wise, he really felt, at least to me, older than 10 even tho he was like ten years younger than tennant was.

The traits that I think made people perceive the doctor's true ancient age the most were the weariness of being alive so long and the frustration of being wiser than everyone else. Personally, I think Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi did the best at this. Matt had a lot of moments where he'd be all silly running around but then take a serious moment and show his anger/age/weariness, but the most notable scenes for Matt emphasizing the age to me were at Demons Run during his coronal runaway speech, The Big Bang rewind sequence, when he meets Clara as a victorian nanny, and the beast below. So despite his youth and him acting very young, he balanced it out with a lot of serious moments where he rly seemed older.

Jodie on the other hand, even though she had a lot of more youthful moments, she didn't have as many harsh serious moments to balance it out, and I just don't remember many scenes where she really seemed that old. Although I do think Jodie is capable of it, she did a really good job of it when the opportunities were there, just, they didn't come as often, which could have been her but it also could have been the direction the production wanted her to go. It came out in a lot of the doctor/master scenes and a couple others.

So to summarize my long winded ramble here, I think Jodie was perceived as younger than 10 and 11 despite looking similar ages partially because she's a woman and partially bc she wasn't aggressively angry as much as they were. But I have a suspicion that she was discouraged from acting aggressive the way 11 and even 10 did when they were angry bc she was a woman and women are perceived more negatively when acting more aggressive than men. Like, Jodie never had her ANGRY MOMENT that made you go "oh yeah that's the oncoming storm." So anyway, let women be angry, don't make them more passive than men in the same situation.

I forgot this was supposed to be about age differences hold on.

Okay yeah, 13 and Yaz weren't perceived the same was as 9 and Rose or even 10 and Rose because 13 is a women and women are infantilized but also they aren't perceived as "threats" bc female abusers are taken much less seriously than men especially with age differences. Never once was it mentioned that a 19 year old girl dating a 36 year old women would be weird. Yaz's mom literally asked Yaz if they were dating, and she asked it the same way she asked if her and Ryan were dating. 13 was not perceived as too old to be dating Yaz. This is not the same thing that happened with Rose. Jackie and Mickey repeatedly mentioned the age being weird with 9 before they knew his real age, and 9 was generally assumed to be an older guardian of Rose rather than a romantic interest because of his age. Even 10, who was 35, was treated as much older than Rose in a way 13 never was with Yaz.

But it could be argued that character ages are less signifiant in terms of dynamics because the doctor is obviously thousands of years old and that the actor ages are more important in determining the "appropriateness" of the age difference. In which case, I'd bring up 11 and River. Never ONCE, in the whole series, from Silence in the Library to The Husbands of River Song was River's age mentioned. Nor have I seen a single person in the fandom ever bring up Matt and Alex's age difference. And there are some random factors with River not being fully human, and Matt being older closer to 30 than 20, the weird reverse timeline btwn them, but I think gender is the big one here.

Alex Kingston was 45, the oldest for a reoccurring female companion, but to be fair, she doesn't look that old. At least to me, she could have been early 30s and I wouldn't have been surprised. She acted in such a way that made her feel ageless, she was flirty and active like a young person but also experienced and stern like an older person, that tied with her mysterious past and knowledge made her seem like she could be in a wider age range. And a lot of that was just because Alex Kingston is an amazing actor. Like, certain scenes she definitely seemed younger or older, like in Lets Kill Hitler she acted very much like a rebellious teenager but in episodes like the big bang, and the library ones she seemed much older.

Women are generally expected to physically look younger than men of their same age, which, from a real life standpoint might explain why Alex just didn't look as old as Eccleston for example, because she's probably made more effort irl to look younger, with makeup, products, whatever. And again, older women are not perceived the same way older men are when they are with younger partners. Like, 9 and Rose kissing looked weird to me, even the first time I watched it I was thought of the actors like "hes old enough to be her dad thats weird to watch" but I didn't even realize Alex Kingston was so much older than Matt Smith the first FEW times I watched it. Even knowing, I just can't view the age difference as much as I can with 9 and Rose. And yes, Matt is older than Billie was, and Billie was styled as a teen/young adult while Matt wore old man clothes and acted older. But even in The Husbands of River Song, seeing River and 12 (only a 5 year age difference) looked weirder to me than River and 11 (19 year difference). Like, Peter Capaldi just seemed much older than Alex Kingston than she ever seemed older than Matt Smith.

why blippi is rotting yr children's brains

preface: i literally expect no one to read this. it is an essay length, strong opinion piece critiquing a niche youtube-based children's show that i don't expect most of y'all to even have knowledge of lol. but like, i promise that even if you know nothing about what i'm talking about, in my incredibly, super humble opinion, it's a good piece of writing and interesting nonetheless. anyway if you read this whole thing for some reason yr really hot and we should kiss.

i thoroughly vet everything my child watches before he watches it, episode by episode. and we rarely watch youtube for entertainment; we usually just look up educational videos when he has a question about something and wants more detail than i can provide him. and that's mainly because children's content on youtube is so fucking troubling and distressing. i don't judge parents who give their children a tablet at a restaurant at all bc i've been there and sometimes it's easier on everyone to just put on a video and avoid a giant scene, but i do judge parents who just leave their children alone with youtube kids on autoplay.

take stevin john, a literal millionaire who got famous from dressing up as a silly character called blippi and going on tours of places like aquariums, zoos, construction sites, etc and posting it on youtube. this has branched into a whole empire of blippi videos, hulu shows and specials, live shows and tours (that he outsources to another character actor), merchandise and so on. this 30-something year old man cites his main influence as being mr. rogers, but i question if he's ever even seen an episode of that program.

mr. rogers had no background in early childhood development or media production, but he revolutionized the world of children's media, because he respected his audience and didn't shy away from real world situations, all while creating a show with an enormous heart. mr. rogers begins his episodes by inviting the viewer in, literally changing his attire to be more comfortable, and talking about/doing things he genuinely cares about. whereas mr. rogers calmly and maturely addresses the viewer, blippi puts on a high pitched, contrived voice, interjecting every other sentence with a forced exclamation such as, "teehee! we're having so much fun!"

i don't find it a coincidence that john (blippi) is a veteran, either. his videos are completely devoid of the absurd, abstract, childlike thinking that makes children's media fun, creative, and entertaining. his thinking and process is methodical, devoid of emotion, and very superficial. this line of thinking clearly shows the kind of creative sterilization and emphasis on sameness and conformity instilled in the military. blippi simply observes things and interacts with them in a stale, matter-of-fact way. "this ball is purple! this ball is pink! anyway... what's over there? teehee! a car! vroom, vroom!" objects are colors, toy cars don't do anything but drive, curiosity is simply not encouraged.

he uses the "it's educational!" excuse to hide the fact that his show lacks everything that makes media a valuable resource for children to consume in the first place. further than identifying colors, numbers, and the occasional letter or shape, there is just this total lack of children's need for social and emotional development. when mr. rogers breaks the fourth wall to address the viewer and let them know they're special, it feels authentic and natural, because we've spent the last half hour building whole worlds with diverse characters and unique stories in a pretend neighborhood, learning about and enjoying different musical instruments, being exposed to and making friends with (even if parasocially, it is still a real bond to children when done properly) children who are similar to us in character regardless of physical or environmental differences, feeding the fish, making art together, and so on. when blippi tells the viewer, "you are very special, and i enjoy spending time with you!" it falls completely flat and feels unearned, because the last half hour was spent running around a soft play center pointing at bright, colorful objects, visiting interesting locations like farms or fruit production factories while failing to acknowledge the humanity of the humans actually working there (everything is machine or product focused; the human workers are simply an extension of the machine), learning "fun facts" about elephants that just list attributes of elephants, not taking the opportunity to inform the viewers of elephants' intelligence, or diet, or matriarchal society. it is a loud, sensory overwhelming display of a man so disconnected from the social and emotional needs and desires of children that he assumes they're stupid, easily entertained idiots who only need some silly dances and fast-moving cartoon graphics to give their attention (meaning time and desire to purchase products meaning $$$). john clearly views his audience as a means to gaming the algorithm and ultimately a paycheck by the hollow way he addresses them.

the show is so narcissistic, so focused on all the fun blippi is supposedly having, but he lacks any of the character traits that make individual children's show hosts memorable, so much so that he was able to have someone else who doesn't even vaguely resemble him dress as blippi and impersonate him and host the show or appear at live shows, and it went unnoticed by most of his toddler and child audience. the show is so formulaic and the character of blippi is so unmemorable that instead of taking the blue's clues route of developing a story of the host leaving for college and his brother now stepping in, or making some sort of believable excuse for the change in actors, they can simply swap him out with some random guy and not acknowledge it at all. although a comedy show for older children, the amanda show in no way could or would try to replicate the show with the same name but swapping out amanda bynes with a random teenage girl who is clearly not amanda bynes. it's weird and nonsensical and shows that his character is so much of a farce put on for a paycheck that not even his dedicated audience is affected or even cares when he is replaced by a random, unknown person.

this is completely garbage content made by an opportunist with no experience with children who saw his nephew watching children's youtube content, took it at complete surface level and still hasn't realized that while children's content only looks and feels so easy, entertaining, and enriching because it is so hard to do well. even with outsourcing his music, that aspect of the show still sucks. famous and successful children's musician, raffi, is known for his song describing the life of a little white whale, called "baby beluga." it opens with a calm strumming of his guitar, followed by the lyrics, "baby beluga in the deep blue sea/swim so wild and you swim so free/heaven above/sea below/and a little white whale on the go." is it silly and kind of pointless? yes, but the point is that he is captivating children and showing them the fun of listening to music, dancing, singing, and appreciating art. the "excavator song" featured in an episode of blippi about construction vehicles opens with what sounds like a default garageband loop and the flatly sung lyrics, "i'm an excavator/i'm an excavator/hey dirt, see you later/i'm an excavator." i don't feel i have to meticulously analyze the aforementioned lyrics; the stark contrast should speak for itself.

i have a million more criticisms about both blippi specifically and youtube children's content as a whole, but this is already so long and i doubt many people will get this far anyway. it's an issue i was completely apathetic towards until i had my own child and had to wean him off these kinds of junk food shows because i realized the fast-paced visuals and bright colors and repetitive songs/lyrics were putting him in this spaced-out, fugue state, and he thought he could demand this show or that show whenever he wanted. the moment he started regularly yelling things like, "watch! cars!" or "no! click it!" i knew i had to be a lot more invested in the things he watched even if just for entertainment or as a soothing message. i showed him an episode of mr. rogers yesterday and feared it would be too slow to hold his attention, but he was mesmerized, greeting and interacting with mr. rogers verbally, asking me, "what's that?" to different objects on the screen. since purging this low-brow children's entertainment, he has had a noticeable increase in attention span and concentration, can focus on a task for longer amounts of times, is more likely to "read"/look through books without me initiating it, and doesn't throw a fit when the tv/my laptop is off.

i just know that for me, growing up with so much unsupervised internet access definitely led me to real-world pain and consequences, and it seems like now children are born with an iphone as an extension of their arm. if my child is going to be consuming videos, i'm definitely supervising every second and am going to be highly critical of the videos and the credentials (or lack thereof) of the creators and team behind it. but i also know, from pure observation admittedly, that parents letting youtube kids autoplay parent their children for hours at a time is not an uncommon occurrence. and it worries me that a generation of children are being raised on videos that rely on being as loud and bright and superficially enjoyable as possible. what's the use of a child knowing their colors and alphabet if they don't know how to treat people with kindness and empathy and respect? there is something wrong for a children's show host to plug the spelling of his name at the end of his videos ("well, that's the end of this video. but if you wanna watch more of my videos, just type in my name! can you spell my name with me? b-l-i-p-p-i!") after essentially rotting his audiences' brains for a half hour. there's something so insidious about the prioritization of naming different parts of construction vehicles over honest depictions of and conversations about dealing with feelings, or why someone with autism may act differently than you, or what to do when you feel lonely, or ways to make art and express yrself creatively. also, not to mention the blatant police propaganda and outright worship is seriously jarring; as a black mother to a visibly non-white child, i cannot sit there and watch blippi show kids how to be a bootlicker for the shittiest profession on earth, but that could be a whole essay in and of itself.

Just finished watching episode 3 of F4 Thailand and I love it so freaking much omg this episode was fantastic!!

I love how they used the accidental kiss trope and then blatantly made fun of it after the fact cuz we all know how cringe the accidental kiss trope can lol but I actually didn’t mind it here I thought they did it well and it was pretty funny thyme’s reaction had me dying

That scene between gorya and ren ugh she is such a girl boss and I’ve kept thinking this whole time that the actor who plays ren seems so familiar but apparently this is his FIRST drama!! I’m so impressed with him and the emotion that’s being displayed by everyone so far

THE BUS SCENE OHMYGOD I LOST MY SHIT LAUGHING IT WAS SO FREAKING FUNNY I AM LIVING FOR THE DYNAMIC BETWEEN GORYA AND THYME!! Like I honestly think this version shows the best dynamic between these two characters out of all the versions like I’m not even fully sure what it is yet but I think it might have something to do with the fact that I feel like in this version they are more childlike in a sense like they both feel more like actual kids/teenagers than in the others so it feels more playful I guess and they’re both headstrong and childish and so they just fight like cats and dogs which of course to some degree is every version so I don’t know if it’s just the actors playing off each other really well or what but so far I’m liking them the best I think

To give my personal opinion about the Krist apologies post. Krist’s acting in BL has never been the problem and even his chemistry with other male actors were good. Sotus and Sotus were both in part with the intimacy and skinship of that period which were frozen kiss in the last episode, even thought I believe Sotus S could have written Kong and Arthit better as a couple, even with Arthit internalized homophobia. Actually Our Sky : Sotus had a better kiss and skinship between them and it’s due to the fact it was released when intimacy started to go somewhere. As a krist hater because of his homophobic past and hurtful comments about gay men, I won’t ever deny he can act and has chemistry with others, men included. Honestly I don’t watch a lot of bts or reality shows with BL actors, because I find them cringey, however it seems that he is very well liked by other actors. I think for me, it’s part of the reason why he got away with what he said, he is not a hateful person and he is popular with others.

the way that a lot of people don't do that sht, the way that in MONTHS no new people have followed their twitter or youtube, the way that barely anyone talks about them online, does in fact signify that people don't care about Laboum. not everyone needs to be an active social media user or anything ofc, but this degree of lack of attention? unless when it's about a disbandment prediction, joking about the girls' horrible experiences at their expense, or fake interest in the group only on certain conditions, shit doesn't get attention.

the girls had viral tiktok videos a bunch of times, but the majority of the people watching have no fucking clue who they are or that they aren't just actors, and it's just me and 1 other Latte trying to respond to tired comments calling the members by names of characters they played, or "ZN" which is Jinyea's old stage name. if ONLY there were a few more Latte who would leave a comment or two for once as well, the few of us wouldn't have to deal with trying to inform the general public abt Laboum.

people not sharing shit abt LABOUM is one of the main reasons why so may ppl now think they disbanded, and why you see a bunch of kpop fans who claim they're a fan of LABOUM but have been out of the loop w them for 3-6 years. it doesn't help that their domestic fanbase consists of mainly loser incels who don't dare to fucking talk about the group unless when being petty about Yulhee or creepy about their bodies.

and i know tumblr kpop fans LOVE only looking at stupid fucking gifs and not clicking on the videos they're from, acting as if streaming is a fucking punishment from hell instead of just playing a fucking song or playlist you like in the background, and acting as if it's a shocker when groups aren't doing well when so fucking few people who pretend to be a fan actually listen to music or read or watch anything new or buy music. considering your purple heart use, you should KNOW how supporting musicians works. as much as i hate the competitiveness and commodity in the music industry, likes alone never helped artists.

so yeah i'm passive-aggressive bc im trying to fucking encourage people to do something more than say they like Laboum but never dare to mention their name nor recommend a song nor share anything about them. i wouldnt be so fucking frustrated if i saw some more hype aside from from clickbait content and gg stans who just namedrop them for edgy crappy jokes.

Laboum don't need to be world famous and i don't think they will be per se, but they are really unknown. unless people do something more than just quietly listen to them once every blue moon and don't engage in anything Latte are asking or encouraging people to do, they will remain as extremely unknown as right now and disband when their contracts end in summer 2023.

other Latte are feeling the same frustrations as i do and feel exhausted. anyone who knows Laboum's story and the international, knows how small it is and how frustrated we are. this shouldn't be a surprise if you've talked to any Latte. i am familiar with how reserved fans are in this fandom. when trying to set up projects before for their anniversaries, it ended with me and only 1 other Latte in a skype call, no communication from the rest, and them not daring to partake any projects or plans anymore. that felt really disappointing.

so no, i don't find fun in being so stressed and active in trying to promote LABOUM to such an extent bc me and a few others are trying to do work for multiple ppl and for free at that. but all we ask is basic stuff like 'please also share posts' or 'hey check out and share this new song cover'. it's already ridicilous i have to ask ppl to share posts bc they refuse to, whether i ask or not.

if that's too much work, are people really interested in the group???? the thing is also that if other people, at least a few more, do a little more than nothing, it would actually make more people discover the group on their own socials, become fans, and partake in fandom. we wouldn't be so burned out if there were more than like 5-20 accounts trying to do so much bc no one else will. e.g. we emailed the company to demand translators and it hired one, but then barely anyone watched LABOUM's newer youtube videos and so that was kind of abandoned too. no views or attention = a sign that people aren't interested = no new content. that's how it works.
