The [Democratic] party attempts to shift to the center when there is a major loss.

There’s some common threads I see in the anti-voting posts going around, and I feel like I need to discuss some of them. Let’s start with the biggest one:

Voting to punish evil. I see lots of variations of this. Biden is supporting Israel, therefore we can’t vote for him. Is there any viable candidate who would stop the genocide? I don’t think the anti voting crowd actually cares. They are appealing to moral feelings rather than political strategy, because strategically, you have to realize that voting is not going to change foreign policy, and that change has to be pushed by other means. It’ll probably be something in the long haul.

Democrats should run someone else. First of all, this is a shit strategy. You don’t primary your president in the second term unless your party is falling apart. This may come from people from countries where replacing the head of government is easier, but the POTUS is the de facto party head. Also, going to the lack of thought to the goal — do you know someone willing to primary Biden and able to win who would do the things you want.

Biden hasn’t done anything anyway. This is just a way to bat away pro arguments. There’s plenty of lists of progress on lots of things. Student loans, insulin price caps, regulations, anti-trust.

Putting the entire Palestinian genocide on Biden. I’m not saying there’s not culpability there, but understand that the entire US government is in support of Israel, on both sides. It was a miracle we got a handful of Senators to call for investigations. We should cut off aid, absolutely. Who’s running to do that? And keep in mind that Israel chose to engage. US officials would have liked a more limited response, not out of care for Palestinians, but because they know from experience that it will come back to bite Israel in the form of newly radicalized Hamas recruits.

Liberals just have no hope for change. This is a new one. Just some idea that people are stuck in a rut and that’s the reason the two party system exists. The two party system is a mathematical consequence of the way we vote. There is reason to hope for change. The change, though, whatever means you choose, will take decades. Keep working at it. The hope is not that this election will fundamentally change things. The hope is that many small political actions over the years will push things forward.

Funnily enough, I haven’t seen a whole lot of third party promotion, just lots of this rhetoric aiming to punish. When voting, ask yourself:

Is this problem I have with this candidate something that the other candidate would be better on?

Are there other political actions I can take that will help?

What things can change with a different President or Congress, and what needs to be pursued by other means?

Withholding your vote as a punishment isn’t really going to help. Biden doesn’t know who you are or why you are not voting for him, and there is no one with a chance of winning that will do everything you want. But you have other means. Protest, organize, donate, build up alternatives, advocate for a different system.

Vote to give yourself space and get a little bit. Do other things to keep things moving.

I don't know whether I should find Trump voters freaking out after learning that Trump doesn't care about him funny or infuriating. It's funny bc literally every reason they had voted for this man was a bold-faced lie and infuriating bc ppl on both sides has be telling them over and over that Trump would fuck America over and now that it's affecting them and their precious gas and egg price, they want to cry about being duped.

I find regretful Trump voters quite pitiful and soulless. Which is quite a lot from me cos when I despise someone to the core I go completely apathetic towards any suffering they may have.

They voted as selfishly as possible. Some didn't even care about the prices or anything, but yes for "sticking it to the libs".

But... While a lot of maga voted for Trump because he openly hates those they hate, there's unfortunately a lot of dumbass people that actually believed he would "unify" America.

(I'm not even joking. I've seen some maga online that are that effing delusional. They really thought they were the "good guys" in voting for the orange skidmark. I swear they need to get slapped for the audacity but I don't want to catch shit from them. )

These are the same people that compared wearing a freaking MASK to slavery so they've always been stupid and also racist af. They blame and project their own mediocrity on minorities and women (even if they're women themselves cos holyshit do maga women hate other women. My own maga mother... Oh she's literally hates everything with a vagina, even animals)

Those voters regretting their vote now... They won't even get the concept of pity from me. (My maga mother and her crying over her VA benefits she voted away lost me forever too.)

They didn't even know what tariffs were ffs. Or that "Obamacare" (a nickname given by republicans themselves, btw 😂) is the ACA they wanted to keep.

They just saw "Obama" in the little nickname and thought "Evil Black Democrat President is robbing us blind. We only want ACA🤬!"

Some are trying to lie to themselves thinking the tariffs will bring back American jobs (😂) and make us buy only "American products" ignoring the fact that our "American products" have imported components that will be affected by these tariffs.

So our "Made in America" shit... Yeah. That's going up.

Oh don't get me started on how more than half of our agriculture is imported and the agriculture that's actually done in our country is done mostly by immigrants that get paid shit wages. (And when Trump deports them all and farmers are forced to hire Americans that couldn't be assed to work a field, the prices will go up for our local agriculture as well)

These morons, we have to call them that, voted for the most epic downward spiral that will tank the American economy for potential decades (not just a few years of "hardship" like that Immigrant-That-Should-Get-Pimp-Smacked-Back-To-Africa Musk claimed.)

Sad thing is that we already had poverty. The middle class no longer exists. It's everyone's poor but with a handful of rich fucks.

Heck, they voted against gender affirming care because they think it only affects trans people when there's people with health conditions that require this kind of care (like me. A cis woman that produces too much estrogen that causes me a variety of health problems.)

Red states are behind in everything. Education, health, minimum wages but they're sure winning by being higher in crimes, sex crimes, incest and poverty.

They mooch off blue states taxes. They don't give as much as much back as they take. If it weren't for "demonrats" they'd be completely off the map.

Republican voters like living that way without realizing they could have been so much better.

They keep willingly voting for people that keep them in that life or worse... considering that these elections had very high stakes.

These elections were not like others in the past. He has too much power with the SC, senate and representatives.

Was thinking of As it Was in shower (honestly where my best ideas come from besides late at night) and now I have questions. So as we know, in CTW Theo has modern items that are like a major lifesaver/plot point for her. My question is, will James have the same? What will he have!? My vote is something actually useful bc unlike Theo he's terribly posh. I would like him to have something useful but I also suspect he'll just like have, a pen and his phone and like maybe a pocket knife if he's lucky. normal person items.

He has the undying love of the writer, and therefore plot armor of the sort to stun and amaze (and frustrate).

Nah, I kid, BUT I have been thinking about his no doubt posh upbringing and where that might lead, taking inspo honestly a lot from how the royals raise their kids. But we also know from sources beyond the movies that his dad was very very harsh on him, and I think the lack of an 18th century setting would allow him to push back against that a little bit more than he might've in canon - I don't think he'd be like, a rebel without a cause, running off to join a motorcycle gang, but it HAS had me thinking of how that would shape his life choices.

And I also think because of his personality and his strong sense of morality, he would thrive in a military setting no matter the time period. I think he'd struggle quite a bit with any sort of "lad" culture among young soldiers, but I also think his father would have contacts higher up that might get him a different path that typical recruits might not have to walk. I've found statistics like this very interesting:

BUT like I said, I think James himself would be frustrated by a station that's essentially all rank and little duty, and that fact would show in his career choices once he aged out of just letting his father/family expectations dictate those choices. And, of course, what all of this might lead to him having on his person is interesting ✨

It's literally 5am here rn and I haven't gone to bed yet because I'm working on the next chapter, so your timing is impeccable! I was also thinking about it as I showered today (or uh, yesterday, technically), so we're truly occupying the same wavelength.

I'll put where I'm approaching his modern!career from beneath the cut because like? It's not spoiler-y, it'll come through soon via infodump in his POV, so I don't see the harm in adding it here for those who choose to read it.

Basically, in my head his father arranged a cushy higher ranking job in the Navy for him, with the expectation that he'd make a name for himself, do well, and ultimately end up pursuing other ventures later on. However, James distinguishes himself so well in his role that he ends up pursuing a role instead in the SAS (there's precedent - Ant Middleton, who Theo's dad is based on, was in the Marines before he became an SAS operative), from what I gather "all" you need to be is an exceptional soldier within your specific brand of soldier-ing to apply to train as an SAS soldier. Few get through, but you can try. I think his dad would take a very dim view of it because SAS operatives essentially go to the most dangerous places, and do the wildest shit - there's a reason they need to be the best of the best, physically and mentally, to do what they do. I think James would be fully capable of it, though.

So I think James lives with his sister, who watches his place when he's stationed elsewhere, and endures his father's disapproval over the fact that he took what was supposed to be a cushy and largely decorative station and instead veered into the stuff that's actually dangerous, with very little glory or valour because so much of that work is highly secretive and cloak-and-dagger.

He's transported to POTC world while on active duty, hence his outfit when he arrives - I had folk being confused by the all-black outfit, he's not going through a goth phase, it's combat gear 💀💀💀 (although that had me SCREAMING)

been on the fence about saying this. don't really want to become a politicized blog, but still, i think it's worth mentioning

but over the last few years, i've been noticing a trend - just personally noticing, i'm not saying it's exclusive to the last few years bc i doubt it is - about leftist people becoming radicalized in ways rooted in exclusivity

and the thing is, this happens. propaganda works. exposure to ideas works. and then, once the beliefs begin to take root, there's a reactiveness there, a defensiveness, that becomes harder and harder to get around. i say this as someone who's been there, and is really determined to never return. but it takes intention

so, one thing i've been seeing a lot of since the election is a wave of hating all men. i get it. really, i do. but i am here to gently, compassionately remind ppl that this is the exact opening te/rfs look for. this is their in. they'll like your posts about hating men. they'll establish a connection, a rapport

some other points about the All Men Are Awful Monsters discourse:

harms trans men, like myself. contributes to us feeling like accepting the gender we are is harmful, damaging, etc. makes us more likely to stay in the closet. also works to exclude trans men - especially those who pass - from queer spaces

speaking personally, when ppl seem to accept the fact that i'm a man but turn around and disparage all men, i feel like they view me as a woman-turned-man, or a Man Lite, or something else along those lines. i'm not! i'm just a guy.

harms trans women. whether through arguments of "male socialization," or considering the penis to be a tool of violence rather than just genitalia, or through only accepting them provisionally, if they're feminine enough, if they pass enough, etc

harms all trans people, including nonbinary people, because it demonizes the role of masculinity; whether that's a past role for them, or a present role, or a partial/sometimes role, or something else entirely

harms disabled men, neurodivergent men, queer men, POC men, etc.

specifically works to support some really heinous stereotypes about certain groups of men, like Black men

and also

makes men - including cishet, white, able-bodied men, privileged men - less likely to escape their own radicalization. i don't expect this point to matter to everyone, but if any of your personal activism work revolves around deradicalization, i think this has to be one of your tenets

and none of this is to say:

that you have to admire or forgive men who do bad things

that you have to forgive men who have abused you or others

that you have to accept patriarchy

that you cannot speak of your own abuse or struggles

that you must, personally, guide every man to what is "right"

that you cannot point out things like how western men have voted in the recent election

it's really just about questioning the "all men" phrasing. i understand where it's coming from. i get the pushback against the "not all men" argument, i really do. i sympathize with the frustrations. but anytime you take a whole entire demographic and label them in one way, you are limiting your own perspective, whether that's your intent or not

the language we use matters. that includes the language we use in our own thoughts. repetition creates pathways, pathways become familiar routes, familiar routes become ingrained, and ingrained routes become very, very difficult to question. yes, you know that your "all men" is really just saying "all men who do bad things," but brains are silly. all men can eventually come to mean all men. all of them. forever. and even if that wasn't true, your "all men" might mean "all men who do bad things," but you'll draw in people who think you literally mean every single man

i'm not trying to shame anyone. i'm not trying to start an argument. i'm just saying, from experience, that this is something to be aware of. and even if the potential harm to men and trans people doesn't really matter to you, i'd hope that most of the people following me don't want to be sought after for recruitment by te/rfs, so that's something to keep in mind

Yes, producing money and capital for the Black community as well as supporting other Black businesses amongst themselves is very important since historically others never do. this is facts. Problem is that people are claiming that Palestinians deserve to be steamrolled and lose their homeland...when:

there are Black Palestinians, Black Muslims, mixed race Arabs and such....they don't matter? What about the Ethiopian women Israel sterilized...sound familiar? The children in West Africa, specifically Burkina Faso, the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, & Ghana, are working in cocoa factories for about 60% of the globe's chocolate supply. what about incarcerated Black American people forced to work--and definitely going to in California at the very least--as they also cannot vote while they earn false wages?

by going to McDon and Starbucks, you're essentially speedrunning the genocide that many of them weren't trying to offset i the first place, so this false sense of ungratefulness as if they were the ones who supported all along) is manipulative. It's still supporting companies that given the chance and years later, WILL have all the laws and means to go after Black people, so you're speedrunning your own demise and break down of community and use of capital. I realize that Black people have moved different and supported themselves through Jim Crow and all...why are you helping that to come sooner or guarantee its arrival? Funny, bc this is the logic they've used to argue for Kamala.

who, btw, doesn't really need the support she could have directed towards Palestinians or used to build a platform that was more aggressively anti-Republican.

some Black folks have gone out of their way to travel back to African countries and feel their "motherland" (this used to happen more often, it's slowed down now, but a sentiment is still there)

many African peoples and countries have very conservative and ult-Christian views while also facing colonial patterns of exploitation even years down their moment of independence...hello, Congo, Sudan?! Ghana, Nigeria, etc. do these populations have to be perfect in order to gain life-saving advocacy that sometimes doesn't even need you to join a protest or get out of bed?! Were they even fundraising for these Black people? I will answer, I have literally seen people say only descendant-of-chattel-enslaved-people-black-people, which with American Black people also coming from many religious Conservative backgrounds that are heavily homophobic, transphobic, sexist, etc., it shows that if they don't advocate for African black people like they refuse to do for Palestine anyway, that they simply want to play the capitalist game similar to how many Black people in history have only reached to be included in indigenous registries and tribes to obtain rights to certain lands...(yeah indigenous people have also been racist/antiBlack or engaged in such to try to protect their own identities under thee U.S. government....but all this is an example of that divisiveness that's killing everyone)

One creator said that they are leveraging their privilege to escape present genocide and complete erasure (bc Black Americans may have been literally bombed as well as killed and raped, too...but also Palestine is getting WIPED OUT without their original home...you'd think you'd find some similarity, commonality, solidarity if it's about land loss, but no). this doesn't mean that people shouldn't be looking side-eyed at every PoC Trump voter, nah, hold them to the fire (I expected nothing less from both white men and women). Which means start conversations, argue, berate, tell them about the consequences of their votes and the histories that mirror out own time. but I earnestly believe that just because Black people didn't vote for Trump, some right now expressing anger (rightly) are really helping white supremacy when they call for deportations and "jokingly" put up numbers for ICE. 5 voted for The Werewolf 4 for The Incident (which I am surprised because that story as a whole has the least amount of notes... granted the CWs and subject matter(s)-- and it’s the only story I have that doesn’t have any sort of dialogue. Kind of a fill in the blank sort of deal. 1 each for the proposal and country side, 2 for multiple/other, 4 haven’t read any/or didnt like anything in particular, and 2 (minus me) wanted to see results.

I’m trying to think of a takeway here. as a story teller (on/off), it’s... hm. I don’t know what to feel about it. I got ideas and half the time, I go through with it because I think it’s interesting. (that and putting the boys in A Situation is fun). but I also think they’re just niche (or I should say it’s not aesthetic enough with reshade and whathaveyou and I gave my thoughts in the post via tags; it’s not that far back).

Kate Wetherall. I. Was. OBSESSED with Kate as a kid. I do prefer her in the books but I love her show incarnation as well!! The weird girl energy, the autism, the ADHD, it's all off the charts. Fav line from book Kate is still "Well of course it's not funny, but what do you want me to do? Cry?" List of sentences that changed my brain chemistry as a child.

Not to be a basic bitch, but Nicholas Benedict. Oh my god, I loved him in the books already -- we love to see a "wise, all-knowing mentor" character with actual personality and limitations -- but the direction the show took his character in was truly inspired. His discussion with Reynie about the white knight in the books is PEAK.

Reynie Muldoon. Understandably, since he's the POV character, he was the one I actually related to most as a kid. I love the "always trying to stay calm" thing he has going on, and how the narrative never punishes him for trying to be kind and genuine and earnest even though so many books and shows nowadays feel the need to equate niceness with naivete.

My funky little Milligan. Yet another character who I loved in the books already and adored seeing more of in the show. I especially love how much more autistic they made this man. "Geez, how 'bout a hello?" "........Hello." / "I'll be back." [vanishes] [reappears] ".......I'm back." King shit. And no matter what incarnation it is, his reunion with Kate will always reduce me to tears. The memory that was so deeply ingrained into his brain that even Curtain couldn't take it from him... was just that memory of his little girl asking him to go to the mill again... AUGH.... 😭

Constance Contraire. Like Kate, I prefer Book!Constance, but I adore the way the show portrayed her as well. First of all, she's hilarious. Second of all, while she's often being irrational, she also can be a voice of reason in some ways, and we love that. Funky little psychic child. And I just ADORE how kindly the book treats her. Even when she's getting on the other characters' nerves in a big way, the book never suggests that she's a detriment to them, that she needs to sit down and shut up, that they would be better off if they ditched her, or any number of other things that a less understanding narrative would be claiming.

Top 5 Persona Ships

Hamugis. Ohhh my god. MFW the overwhelming guilt I feel for having potentially ruined someone's life by sealing Death inside of her as a child slowly transforms into admiration as I meet her again and begin to see her as a strong leader and then love as I begin to discover my own humanity through her. MFW "I don't want you to love someone else... I don't want that, even if that's what would make you happy!!" MFW I touch my robot GF's literal heart and leave an indelible mark on her very being. Also uhh that one post. "I do not understand hookup culture!!! Die in my arms!!!" yeah. Aigis and Kotone for number one love story of all time.

Akimina. Much less canon interaction to go off of with these two but stay with me here. T4T autism4autism. I love Akihiko's earnestness and Minato's bluntness and how they combine to make a relationship that lacks miscommunication while also leaving a lot unsaid because neither is much one for conversation. I like the idea of Akihiko's intense desire to be strong to protect someone playing off of Minato's much more reserved, almost lackadaisical attitude, despite Minato's strength, and I think it would be so interesting to watch them move in opposite directions -- Akihiko learning to cut himself some slack and trust others rather than thinking he has to protect everyone alone, while Minato learns to break out of his shell and actually care about those around him and want to protect them -- while they also, at the same time, are learning almost identical lessons about relying on other people.

Ulamaya. The two girlies of all time. I adore how Ulala's combined jealousy and affection for Maya play off each other and how Ulala is one of the only characters in the game who feels like she's fully seeing Maya as she is -- a human like any other, even if she presents herself as eternally optimistic and strong so that others can lean on her. Their relationship feels so... equal. If that makes sense. Which, as much as I appreciate KatsuMaya, can feel a little lacking in other Maya ships imo, bc it always feels like other characters (ESPECIALLY the masked circle) tend to idolize Maya. And Maya's forgiveness of Ulala's betrayal... what's that one Hozier line... "I'd be the immediate forgiveness in Eurydice." Yeah.

Pegoryu. God I just love how ride-or-die Ryuji is right off the bat. You meet him, have a near-death experience with him, and ten minutes later he's shoveling more food onto your plate insisting that you need to eat more. Even before then, it may be Akira who saves Ryuji from Kamoshida, but it's Ryuji who tackles him away, yells at him to run and save himself, who gives Akira the faith in humanity that the rest of the world had eroded away at that point.

Tie between Saoriham and Kannao. Saori's social link is one of the best parts of Persona 3 straight up, and Kanji and Naoto are just so goddamn cute together.

anyways why do I always latch onto some professor (or in the past teacher) as a free parent when they can never be that. and I have so many conversations with them in my head where I pretend they are praising me or telling me things are going to be alright because that's what I want really. even though when I do impress people no matter how much it's never enough but still I crave it from these people I reverse-adopt in my head. and I feel so bad about it it's so weird to have someone you elevate mentally so much when really they're just some guy who happens to have a position in shaping you and yet to you they're like something you hang your entire sense of self on. which of course I can't tell them about bc this is insane right. anyways why did I start thinking about this right it's because well (as some who have the misfortune of reading my posts may have guessed) this year it's my philosophy professor and the academic year is coming to an end. less than a month of classes left, I only have him for lectures and the one this coming week I can't even go to because for another class we have odrabiane zajęcia (not translating this bc we never had odrabienie zajęć in the states so I have no idea wtf to call this) which my classmates voted to hold at the same time as the philosophy lecture. so like... two more lectures? maybe I go to his office hours one more time and that's it. and yeah literally that's all our interaction has been, my going to his office hours a few times to ask questions (and I feel so unconfident it took me two times going to the philosophy department building before I finally got the nerve to actually go to his office to talk to him) from which he supposedly thinks I have "exceptional talents" but what are those? going and complaining about Kant? fucking up my grammar spectacularly? that's another reason why I can't feel too happy at his praise because he's a very kind-hearted man so he says for example I "speak Polish wonderfully and write fantastically" but that's not true. my speech is communicable (very messy) and my writing is decent but that's all. I don't think he would lie but I think he has too gentle an opinion. I don't know what my talents are. it's nice he thinks I have some though

also the thing is I don't even know, I might end up working with him next year if everything works out and I get into the interdisciplinary program I want because each student gets a "tutor" right. and they can ask whoever technically but certain ones will be suggested based on interest. and anyways I'm planning to focus on philosophy bc irregardless of my wish he was idk basically my father I guess it's also just very fascinating to me and then I think my secondary focus will be Japanese which he is also interested in so I can him being suggested especially when I think I have a lot more philosophical interest in common with him (fucking works in the aesthetics faculty hahahahahahahaha and interested in phenomenology, left politics, etc.) than say a professor of logic or ethics but even so. he might be too busy for that or maybe someone else will be suggested for other reasons in which case I will be too embarrassed to ask him or maybe I won't get into the program for circumstances reasons. but either way it's pathetic for me to care this much right? I objectively shouldn't and it's weird as hell

If the Democrats lose its because they failed to garner the support of their base, rather than the base's moral failing to turn out to a vote they're completely alienated from. The Democratic Party has moved away from universal healthcare (they literally removed it from their platform) and in particular the Biden administration has moved right on immigration to try (and fail) to siphon Trump voters. You can talk about how important the election is, but at this point there's no victory for the American people no matter who is elected. The Democrats are just secular moderate Republicans at this rate.

Better secular moderate Republicans than Nazis. It's been heading this way a long time, since LBJ. He wasn't wrong when he said he just lost the South for at least a generation by signing the Voting Rights Act.

No party can win with their base alone. The math isn't there for either side. The more you turn out your base the less you need to bend to the middle, but mathematically you will still have to bend -- the GOP does too, why do you think we haven't seen blanket abortion bans since Roe was overturned despite decades of rhetoric? Bc it cost them the midterms at the idea. Obamacare stood despite every Republican running against it, bc they didn't all vote to repeal it bc of the voter backlash at the idea.

Sometimes there is no good option, only less bad. The core of the trolley problem is something people miss -- will you let 5 people die so you can be a bystander and feel good about your moral superiority, or will you save them, and live with knowing that you had to kill one to do it? You can't change the conditions without losing the heart of it, which is the sane as whether you vote -- do you want to be smug while the world burns or do you want to try your best even if you know it's not good enough bc it's better than nothing? One is easy on your conscience "not my fault, I didn't do it" but it's a lie bc you were complicit. The other requires some accountability and responsibility and weight on your shoulders but it also SAVES LIVES.

Did I tell y’all that my class did a “superlatives” thing? Like I never had that in high school or college or anything. But sga sent a google form out n asked people to vote stuff for other classmates.

And I was like ok another popularity contest. And I briefly worried that I would be nominated as greasiest, ugliest, weirdest, worst fashion/style, etc.

But they ended up doing one for everybody which whatever. And none of them were hateful so that’s something.

Mine was “most mysterious.” Like ofc I don’t care but I was like just say you don’t know me and let me go home. Its just a less rude way to call me the weirdest.

Other peoples had cute drawings on theirs and what not. I got scribbles and “the payback on yt” and I really don’t think it’s the James brown song. There’s a channel by that name but it is odd and has very few subs. And I srsly cant think of anything I’ve done to any of my classmates like I’ve never been mean to them or done smthn sneaky or literally anything. So I didn’t think that’s what they meant by payback. Also there was a picture of sunglasses and the yt channel uses those same glasses. I haven’t watched the vids but they look odd and maybe true crime which I don’t even like so I really don’t know. Insight welcome.

The notes go more into individual studies and cases, but it's a generally known thing that passing for male usually nets you some amount of social benefit, while not passing for male either nets you being treated as a woman (if you pass for female) or completely degendered (if you don't strongly pass for either).

I'm a bit unsatisfied by the survey and study responses because I can tell very easily that these are majority white responders in the quotes pulled from these articles, and it chafes knowing that these are taken as the default when my afroindigenous experience is very different. Folks talk about how they became more respected and valued at work- I was labeled as angry, rude, and disrespectful and then fired for something I didn't even do (it was my white coworker, who got fired too, but it was guilt by association for me bc I was literally just existing at the desk when the inciting incedent happened) (also I don't think it should have resulted in either of us getting fired but what can you do), and the only thing that changed is that I began passing for male easily. I was terminated a week before my initial top surgery date and my old job did not pay out the several weeks of PTO they owed me. We were reported by a white woman coworker and fired at her word with no investigation into the matter.

So like. This is why I'm always on my bullshit about being unsatisfied with the way people talk about privilege and oppression when it comes to gender, because when you are not white and exist across gender lines, these "known" situations tend to break.

Anyway. As I've said in other posts on the subject, I have no problem with the statement that those seen as male receive at least some manner of social, contextual privilege over those seen as female. I just think it is a somewhat incomplete answer, because not every trans man or woman passes, and it leaves out nonbinary people who may or may not even have a binary leaning to their gender (nonbinary man vs nonbinary person). And I think that we have to take other factors into consideration, such as race, class, ability status, body size, etc, because they all have direct effects on what access to male privilege one even has including cisgender heterosexual men. Male privilege isn't something that zaps into your brain the second you start thinking of yourself as he/him- like all privileges it's something rewarded to you by society, and just as easily revoked.

However when it comes to privilege outside of contextual, situational, and purely social interactions, I don't think any one transgender individual or variation has meaningful privilege over any of the others. What I mean by this is: nearly all transgender people in politics have formed a party line that directly benefits the entire trans community, and tend to vote and participate in activism in the same way. I do not see trans men in political seats pushing for policies that exclusively benefit them and hurt the rest of the community, for instance, and the transphobic laws that get passed affect the whole even if they're specifically aimed at one segment or the other.

One thing I'm never gonna understand it's why S4kura continuing to go after S4suke (in Shippuden, novels aside) is treated differently than N4ruto doing the same. Idk why y'all think S4kura went after him in Shippuden just so they can be together, her reasoning is almost identical to N4ruto's.

It's so weird bc when it comes to ess en ess, y'all can look at it perfectly well through a storytelling lens and focus more on the themes and emotional beats, but when it comes to S4kura suddenly she's a real person and this has real consequences and her refusing to give up on S4suke is unethical.

Like maybe it's just me but if we want to look at both cases through a "judging these characters through what would happen irl" way, "N4ruto going after S4suke bc technically S4suke still cares about him too much so it doesn't matter if S4suke frequently says no" is a very flimsy justification for why that's okay and on the other hand S4kura is an insensitive aggressor.

Yes, in both her love confessions to S4suke she asks him to stay "if he even cares about her" which is a bit self-centered, but in both cases she was speaking in desperation!! Or when he thought to himself that maybe he was the only one who thought they were friends even though that's a strange thing to think because up til their first fight at the VotE, S4suke had been the main person initiating the acts of actual friendliness??? Bc she fits within the tragedy that is Team 7, three kids who liked each other and did their best but couldn't fully appreciate this newfound relationship they'd made bc of external circumstances and the way the shinobi system destroys lives. She was someone S4suke cared about as well, and she, like N4ruto, just want them all together again bc they treasure that relationship they'd built so much.

That S4suS4ku was a clusterfuck really doesn't work as an argument either bc the ending fucked literally everyone over. N4ruto and S4suke's final fight was just N4ruto going "you're wrong, I'm right" over and over, and N4ruto quite literally tiring him out until he finally capitulates. N4ruto barely has any character development at all throughout the War Arc where he's just there to be the Saviour Messiah figure and bring everyone to his side, and yet when S4kura also gets little character development y'all give her more shit for it. It's kind of insane.

I mean whatever!!! You don't have to agree with me at all but this is something that will always annoy me.

I feel like y'all could just say that y'all think N4ruto and S4suke was done in a better and more emotionally fulfilling way than S4kura and S4suke, which I don't disagree with. I just hate when y'all bash S4kura unnecessarily for it.
