the new i love yoo chapter........
Tumblr media
#i love yoo spoilers#(this is about ep 212)#like we're supposed to read that and then just go on with our day????#there is so much to unpack here .#first of all the art and storytelling. wow. WOW. miss quimchee you've outdone yourself#second of all... can nol catch a break. can nol PLEASE catch a break <//3#to think that after all this he's still gonna have to go to jail once he recovers... if he recovers...#third of all kousuke. now look i feel for kousuke to some extent bc i understand why he is the way he is#but that's an explanation of his behavior and not an excuse#when. WHEN. is he finally gonna start taking responsibility for his actions?#'it was an accident!'#dude you punched your brother so hard he fell from the second floor onto a glass table#then pushed him down the stairs then shoved him into the ground possibly causing him a head injury#and making the glass shards from the table he fell on cut into his neck#what about it is an accident :|#YOU🫵 did that. there's blood on your hands.#i swear if he starts being like 'he provoked me so this is his fault and i'm innocent' again i will do something drastic#and the last panel resembling the painting of ivan the terrible holding his son... quimcheeeeeeeeeee#i wonder if this will be the turning point for the father if it's not too late...#bc intentional or not he is in a lot of ways the main reason for this tragedy#so maybe this will be something like a wakeup call for him#but who knows we don't even know that much about him (yet)#and the memory flashback/the entire dialogue... well. it's good to hear kousuke finally say it#tho the reasoning 'i hate you for existing and for resembling father more than i do so i do everything to distinguish your light' is. um. 😶#i don't even have the words for it#it definitely doesn't justify the years of abuse of a little kid who's never done anything to harm you that's for sure#and nol is valid for calling him out on it and not forgiving him#anyways there's a lot to say about kousuke he might be an unpleasant character but he's probably also the most complex and interesting one#i'm gonna go think about this chapter for the rest of the day i guess

On how Crowley and Aziraphale felt during the kiss (but mainly Crowley here):
Ok so first, the main idea for this huge meta is that a LOT of us noticed how the music from the kiss scene is similar to the nebula one, right?
Second, a lot of us also correctly noticed the parallels between the kiss and how it was to taste food for the first time for Aziraphale: bc of his reactions, the hand on lips, the similar way MS acted both scenes, the little inhale etc. So how was it for Crowley?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aziraphale's reaction to the kiss is practically a puzzle to solve on its own, so it's fun to analyse it, but basically, in a few words, Aziraphale kissed Crowley and he discovered he was physically starving for him, longing for him, yearning for him, for his kiss, and he had no idea. Just like with the ox. And now he needs to gorge himself in him but he can't. Great amazing heartbreaking chef's kiss someone give MS an Emmy.
But there's already so much amazing meta out there about Aziraphale x Ox ribs x The Kiss that I want to focus on Crowley here, and on the music.
So back to the music. The song in "Before the Beginning" and the song that plays during The Kiss (I Forgive You + Don't Bother) are so similar. They're not *exactly* the same, but they're totally reminiscent of each other. The viewer is immediately reminded of those chords that played in the opening scene. It's no coincidence that the fandom was talking about this fact only minutes after first watching those final fifteen minutes. This is an obvious intentional choice for storytelling reasons (David Arnold is a genius).
I have no expertise whatsoever when it comes to music, so I asked our friend @otsanda to see if that made sense and not only it does and she explained it, but she also uncovered so much more hidden meaning in all of it (musicians are amazing), so check out her meta about the music that not only serves as evidence to what I'm proposing here but it also has so much more juicy information in it 💖.
Back to the point: WHY thought? Why choose a similar song? Why intentionally COMPOSE a similar song for that moment?
Hear me out. WHAT IF, by reminding the audience of the creation of the nebula, they meant to convey to us that, for Crowley, kissing Aziraphale gave him the same feeling that creating his stars did?
THAT'S what the music is telling us. THAT'S why it makes us remember "Before the Beginning". It may sound cheesy, but Crowley may have literally seen stars when he kissed Aziraphale. He couldn't react accordingly (just like Aziraphale couldn't), bc it was an overwhelming and extremely sad moment (the music is also telling us that) for both of them. They knew it was ending . They were both having a moment of huge revelation that was fated to not come to completion. Crowley was right, it was too late.
It makes sense to show Crowley's feelings through the music, bc he was the one who started the kiss, and also he was wearing sunglasses in that scene, it's different from a character like Aziraphale that has all his million expressions for everyone to see at all times. And they've been doing this ever since s1 with the Queen songs that play in his car or in the background.
So my point is: the same song being used there makes me wonder if kissing Aziraphale finally gave him what he lost. His purpose. What Aziraphale was trying to give back to him by taking him back to heaven. There's no need for Heaven. Just kiss him, Aziraphale, and there he'll find the stars you want to give back to him. There you will one day see that smile on his face you saw Before The Beginning. Neil Gaiman and David Arnold I am in your walls 😭
This is what may lead us to see this happiness in Crowley again (not the action of kissing itself, of course, but what it represents to their relationship, them being together, them being an Us).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As @otsanda said: from the music we can interpret that that moment was a Revelation for them. Almost a religious experience. Crowley found his purpose again. What he'd been missing the whole season (or even his whole life since the Fall, but we've seen him especially depressed this season).
I'm not even getting into the poetry of how one can interpret the parallel to the angel's reaction to the kiss as carnal, and the demon's as religious; that would be another whole essay but let's just agree that it's incredibly beautiful. (Let me be clear that I mean here Aziraphale's reaction is carnal specifically for Crowley, and Crowley's is religious specifically for Aziraphale, not religious as in "worshipping god")
"Do you ever wonder what's the point?" Crowley asked in s2e1. The point, for him, is Aziraphale (if you've seen The Good Place you know what I mean). I hope he figured this out with that kiss, even as heartbreaking as it was. Even if it was a (temporary) separation kiss. (I hope Aziraphale figures this out with time too, that he's more than enough to make Crowley happy, that Crowley doesn't need Heaven, or stars, that Crowley needs him.)
Maybe that's why Crowley didn't leave and kept waiting outside until the very last moment.
Aziraphale and Crowley both bit the apple at the end of s2. There's no turning back from that Knowledge now.
Edit: I just have to add here this brilliant colour analysis of the nebula scene by @halemerry. And it's pointed out that during the nebula formation there's a moment when it looks like two people embracing. And the fact that a similar song is used in the actual Kiss scene I just... I have no words

𓍼 depollute me | jeno main masterlist
note :: i was inspired by "we'll never have sex" by leith ross to write this bc for some reason jeno reminds me so much of this song. everytime i listen to it or hear it i just think of jeno and think that it reflects how jeno would be as a partner! enjoy me being delusional and i hope you enjoy my first official writing :3 (including lyrics from the song bc i'm TIREDDD and i wrote a lot for my finals this week...)
word count :: 582
no matter how long you and jeno have been together, it always surprises you how much he appreciates you for being you. he appreciates your body, but not in the way that he only uses it to get off. he appreciates your face, but not just for the label of having a "hot girlfriend". he appreciates your personality, for making him feel so loved and comforted every time he breaths. when he kisses you it's with tenderness, not greed. when he runs his hands along your body it's in comfort, not lust.
"if i said you can never touch me, you'd come over and say i look lovely" your quiet voice vibrates against jeno's chest as the two of you are laying against each other, curled up in his bed.
"hmm?" he lifts his head up to look down at you, a perplexed expression painted on his face.
immediate embarrassment flows through you, regretting what you just blurted out. you realized how awkward of a thing that was to say and hoped that jeno genuinely didn't hear what you said. "oh... nothing, lay back down nono."
"no tell me what you said, i wanna know." he added a hint of sass to the end of his sentence, making it harder to just move on from your stupid remark.
"i was just talking to myself, it was stupid anyway."
jeno tilted his head and raised his eyebrow, knowing in his head he was thinking be serious. "tell me what you said or no cuddles for the rest of the night, and i take my hoodie back."
you sighed in defeat, knowing you couldn't lose all that just over a few words, "if i said you can never touch me, you'd come over and say i look lovely." once the words left your mouth you covered your face in embarrassment, you didn't even know what you meant by that but you just felt the urge to blurt it out to jeno.
"i don't know what that means but i'm assuming it's good." his gave you his signature "(.◜◡◝)" expression before he laid his head back down.
"i don't know why i said that honestly, it's kind of embarrassing,"
"no, not at all?"
"i was just thinking of everything you do for me, the way you treat me like i'm the most fragile thing ever. not just physically but in every way. everything you do for me is so careful and you never want me for only my body or only want me for sex, and just, like, if i told you you could never touch me again, you'd still say i look beautiful or lovely and be fine with never touching me again. like your love for me isn't only physical." your voice was quiet but jeno heard every word, listening intently. he would be lying if he said he didn't tear up a little at your words, he tries his best to show you love that's more than just physical and make you feel loved inside and out. and you were right, if you told him he could never touch you again he would be fine with that and would still always call you beautiful and lovely.
as if the two of you weren't close enough, he engulfed you in a suffocating hug, landing kisses on the top of your head. your muffled giggles vibrating against his chest. another heartwarming moment that makes you fall in love with your boyfriend all over again.

I agree with your thoughts here, especially the end paragraph. It’s not about affirming their romantic bond (bc actually that’s private) but just how important they are to each other, and whilst I would call that a ‘soft launch’ (though I dislike the term), and I do think that’s what they are doing, I get what you mean too.
I guess I don’t view it with a Korean lens, mainly bc I don’t consume any Korean content outside of BTS. I don’t value or pretend to understand how they view pretending to be queer acceptable, but it’s not acceptable to be actually queer. It’s outrageous. However, how I did view it was through an Army lens. If I was an Army who didn’t pay attention to them as a duo, because they are hardly lauded over, what is this show? And my take away is that they are the closet. I know Army see it, it’s why we see so many cultists and shippers spiralling right now. I also watched it with friends and my partner and they all saw the closeness and my partner (who doesn’t know them bc I don’t usually talk to them about bts) is sure they are together, just from watching episode 4 and later on 8 (they thought it was gay porn at one point but I digress).
I think that’s their intention, i am sure of it, it’s been building since chapter 2 and before, but yes, we as supporters see all of it. Their history. But the turning point to me from chapter 2 is firstly the book, the documentary, letter, their linked concepts and then the show and finally the enlistment. It’s a culmination of things that highlight them, just them two, as a duo, as something more than just two members of a 7 member band. The documentary highlighted this the most at first, given they were the only two featured together, it seemingly important for JK to be with Jimin whilst he told his story, the way it was edited amongst other members showing their homes and how they live alone. It was interesting at the time, then the travel show made it clear.
It’s the why of it, not just that it makes sense for it to be them who does the show. But why they did it (beyond wanting to spend time together) because although it does allow them to hide behind everything you’d said about what’s out there in SK anyway, it was still incredibly brave of them to make themselves vulnerable by showing their bond in such a way.
The main reason being they just cannot hide their intimacy, and anyone with a brain or experience of relationships can see this. It’s not necessarily the naked times in the hot tubs, it’s the small things, the domestic nature of their relationship, the intimacy is clear there, it’s how they care and how they are with each other, and yes they don’t have to say it with words, you can see it. It’s show and not tell, and I do think they knew this and wanted to be seen. And maybe Koreans themselves won’t see it bc they are blindsided but a lot of I Army are, bc we are all fans and they know this reaches all who want to see it, I think that’s why the first trip is in the US too, bc they were allowed to be themselves there, anonymous almost and they chose LGBT friendly places for a reason.
Then the enlistment also speaks volumes to me, it was obvious it was incredibly private to them (bc they didn’t say why they did it) but that’s the point, this is their real life we are talking about. They aren’t in in there as JK and JM of BTS, they are Jimin and Jungkook of Busan, fulfilling their duty as SK citizens. And they have gone together because they are each others safe space and home and this is what the show showed us, the why. Why they have done what they did. It lays it out for when they return, hopefully explains it to those who didn’t know or see how truly close they are, and hopefully they will be respectful of that.
That was my take away.

ok so since people didn’t cut my head off for my unpopular opinions i’m gonna expand on the second one. so for people in the gilmore girls fandom it’s pretty much the general opinion that luke is a saint for taking jess in and that jess screwed things up and that it’s his fault luke kicked him out. ”he got himself kicked out”. even people who like jess seem to think this is fair. so as someone who watches gilmore girls mostly for jess i have a different perspective that i’ve never actually vocalized but i figured maybe this little corner of the internet wouldn’t hate me for this, as long as it doesn’t make it out of here.
so i also first of all think that the fact that jess has to work at luke’s and graduate in order to stay there is a bit sad. like everyone around him his age has somewhere they can stay without conditions, and people wonder why he’s the only one worried about making money. and yes, it’s a fine idea in theory, he has to change his ways if he wants to stay with luke bc that’s the point of him being there, sure, but luke could stand to NOT always bring it up to jess during fights that can’t stay with him if he violates the conditions.
bc the thing is that luke very clearly makes it known that he doesn’t want jess there and that the whole situation is kind of a pain in his ass that he’s doing out of obligation. a minor is entitled to a place to stay where they can be an asshole unconditionally, actually, and they shouldn’t have to be constantly grateful to have that. and if luke didn’t want to fully commit and be that place, he should have said no to taking jess in. you don’t get to get all the praise for doing a good deed and then get all pissy about actually following through with it.
like i know luke and jess aren’t the main characters and that their scenes and dynamic are for comedy. but then they play off jess leaving as serious so i should be allowed to analyze their scenes seriously. and my conclusion is… luke is not that nice to jess LOL. like i can’t think of a single scene where he responds to him in any other manner than pissed off or annoyed. he never stops treating him like a bad kid. we know luke cares about jess but does jess have any reason to believe that? or does he think this is all for liz? like i know their scenes are jokes but for someone who complains so much about what a difficult person jess is to connect with, i think luke missed a lot of moments to do it.
luke taking jess in in general is nice, YES, but i’m not talking about just good intentions here. and i know that it was a very good intention but i, again, just super dislike the whole ”you wouldn’t have anywhere to stay if it wasn’t for me, so watch it”-attitude. even in season 4 luke basically said that jess had to come to liz’ wedding because he was there for him when no one else was. and i think that’s a shitty thing to say to someone who deserved more. i know luke didn’t have to do it bc he’s not his parent and that’s why people forgive him and not liz, who is his parent and did have to do it. but i think luke agreed to be jess’ parent and if he didn’t want to, he could have said no to his sister for once in his life. anyways, i think i’ve made my point.
also, i love you luke, my world just revolves around your nephew. i know i’m putting a lot of unrealistic expectations on a guy who’s pretty emotionally constipated. and he did come through with the big things, like giving jess money in sesson 4. but i’m talking about the little things that could have made even more of a difference. just don’t get it twisted ok, luke and jess’ relationship is my fave on the show, i may like it even more than rory and jess’, but when i enjoy something i analyze it. so don’t think i don’t love them, because i do! i just want to squash the idea that luke did everything he could but that jess ultimately was too difficult, because i disagree with that.

Genuine question: Why do you ship Radiobelle? I've seen a lot of people doing it, and I'm curious as to what the appeal is!
The real question is, why do people ship anything? Why do we all see two or sometimes more characters interact with each other and imagine how cool it would be if they both had deep-seated romantic feelings for the other?
Answer: cuz we can!😌
Idk about the rest of you, but I don’t exactly have much control over what I ship and don’t ship😅 I just see the characters together and my brain randomly decides either “yes I want them to make out” or “nooo I don’t really see it”
But as for Radiobelle specifically, there’s just something about them that my silly fangirl heart can’t resist. While I am fairly new to the HH fandom, I did watch the pilot around the time it came out and a small part of me did ship them back then. But I never really allowed myself to indulge in it and I just wasn’t that into the show anyway so I didn’t bother. Now, after actually watching the episodes and engaging in fandom content, I finally embraced the cringe to the full extent and let myself be consumed by the radio demon and his charming demon belle! :P
Now I’m aware that the majority of people don’t like Radiobelle, or even full-on hate it for multiple reasons. Sure, whatever. You don’t have to like every ship, nor does anyone expect you to! I can understand it’s not for everybody. The main thing that bugs me, though, is when people try to start arguments about why it’ll never be canon and why you shouldn’t ship it. “Charlie is with Vaggie and Alastor is aro/ace!” People ship Alastor with a multitude of other characters and nobody bats an eye,, why is it only when you see him being drawn with Charlie that you lose your shit and get offended about his sexuality being ‘erased’? (That’s a topic for a whole other post tbh). And people can ship Charlie with other people. Hell, they DO! I’ve seen numerous art of her and other characters.
Then there’s also the “Alastor thinks of her as his daughter!” See, I want everybody to actually watch episode 5 again and come back to me on this. No, he fucking does not. The only reason he was saying any of that was to get under Lucifer’s skin. That’s it. That was his whole intention. He doesn’t like Lucifer and wanted to rub it in his face that he has been a lousy father to his daughter, in comparison to all the ways he has helped her, with the hotel and whatever else.
Phew, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way! Onto why Radiobelle has stolen my heart!
I just love their dynamic and it all really started with the pilot. Alastor—this mysterious force of nature who can kill anyone and anything, is capable of unimaginable power and torture—randomly showing up on the doorstep of a hotel to help out. And literally no one else trusts him (reasonably so) but Charlie, the good-hearted soul she is, lets him in. She’s cautious, of course, but she’s giving him the chance to do some good because that’s what her dream is all about!
Now while I do wish they had some more interactions in the actual show, what we have so far is scrumptious✨ Alastor may have been giving an abundance of praise to Charlie to piss off her dad, but I don’t think he was lying. Deep down I’m sure he is enjoying the time they’ve spent together—even if he doesn’t fully realize it. Charlie defends Al’s sadistic behavior to her dad because he was doing it to defend the hotel (and bc he’s a cocky mf lol but it’s endearing to her in a way).
Oh and don’t even get me STARTED on episode 7 bro,, omfg the content!! The way he’s extra touchy with her even after they’ve made their deal. Her being nervous and stressed out but he encourages her anyway and verbally admits that he had faith in her the whole time. Him giving her his microphone—which is likely the main source of his power as shown in episode 8 (where he let her use his mic AGAIN!!!) which just shows how much he actually trusts her,, UGH it’s just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 give me more!!
Now, do I expect Radiobelle to become canon? No. Would it be fucking awesome if it did? Oh absolutely. But I know it won’t, and I don’t care! I’m having the time of my life shipping these two hell-dwelling idiots and I don’t care what anyone says about it!😋

⁶⁾ “i can’t believe it took a night like that for you to let me help you with something.”
Doing a lil benny/Brady bc im Soft about them
Benny's bent over his desk trying to bargain with the words on the page in front of him to stop blurring together. He's been trying to get through all his coursework this Friday evening so he'd have the entire weekend free. It was one of the rare occasions where his schoolweekend and Johnny's days off were perfectly aligned and he had no intention of allowing something like Statistics get in the way.
He's mostly focused, studying was rarely difficult for him, but he's got one ear turned toward the main room of the apartment where Johnny was humming while he cooked them dinner. Benny's pretty sure the other man never realized when he was doing it, and Benny was loathe to bring it up for fear of killing the habit. He liked it, liked the sound of Johnny's contentment. And his quiet voice, while no great talent, was always pleasantly in key.
It had become a constant in the apartment the last month and a half, like the trundling of the railcar outside and the neighbors dog barking from twelve to two am that had driven them both crazy -- and brought on a certain modicum of yearning from Benny -- before it had faded to the buzzing lullaby of a city.
Constant like Johnny's keys on the bowl by the door and the smell of his aftershave while Benny showered and the sound of his breathing on the pillow next to him.
So when it stops, cut off by a sharp gasp and a muffled curse it's as obvious as an air raid siren.
Benny's out of his chair before the sound of Johnny's pain stops.
"Fuck-"
Johnny's stood in front of the counter of their narrow kitchen, hand clutched up tight to his chest and wrapped in a towel that was rapidly growing red and wet. The cuttingboard in front of him was in a similar state, red smeared across a knife and a collection of ingredients that had been hoping to be a stew.
"Let me see."
The other man stares at him suspiciously, clutching his hurt to him like a child. Benny doesn't take it personally, it was rare that John Brady's eyes weren't wary and suspicious. He was sharp everywhere he could possibly and rose-petal soft beneath and Benny didn't mind. He knew how to tiptoe between the thorns without so much as a scratch.
"Cuore, let me see"
Muscles relaxing in small increments, higher reasoning catching up with the instinctive reaction to being hurt, Johnny holds his hand out for Benny's inspection, face twisting in disgust.
"Lotta blood," he comments.
"Well, knives are sharp," Benny says softly, peeling back the wet cloth. The kitchen towel is definitely ruined, and he gives it only a moment of mourning because it's one his mother embroidered for him, before hissing at the sight of the deep gash through the other man's pointer finger.
Johnny's snorting in derision, "knives are sharp - Jesus is that bone?"
Benny folds the cloth quickly back over, wrapping it right, "Nope. We need to get you to down to the clinic though."
"What about dinner?"
"Darling, I'll put a lot of you in my mouth, but I draw the line at it being on top of carrots."
Later that night, laden with hot sandwiches from the deli down the street and Johnny's hand out of commission Benny is trading off taking bites of his sandwich and bringing it down to where Johnny is laying back against his chest for his own bite.
The slighter man is turning his hands back and forth, flexing them to watch the fat wrapped sausage of his injury bob in place.
Benny sets the sandwich down, reaching out to take Johnny's hands in both of his, spreading the fingers out to swipe his thumb over the silvery frostbite scars. They were long healed, the skin barely even a different texture from the undamaged flesh around it, but Johnny shivers either way.
"I can't believe," Benny says softly, "that it took a night like that for you to let me help you with something."
Johnny winces, threads his healthy fingers through Benny's own and tucks them against his chest. Benny feels his slender finger tap out fifty-nine exact beats against his knuckle before he speaks.
"I couldn't. We weren't in love yet."
Benny presses his face to the frown to Johnny's head, inhales and smiles through the agonized rush of feeling blowing through his chest.
"Ah Cuore, do you really believe that?"

Fun fact about N’s character theme: it’s based on prime numbers! I don’t know enough about music theory to tell you exactly how, but it’s neat that the composer took his mathematical affinity into account -moon
ya!!!! that’s what i was talking about w the arpeggios. that’s a detail i think is great fs….
Tumblr media
don’t get me wrong it wouldn’t surprise me at all if n’s battle theme was some masterpiece of musical composition on a purely technical level that i don’t get because i don’t understand complex math and music theory terms. i tried researching the meanings behind his name and just exploded. i mean look at this. i do not go there
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like i’m sure they were absolutely cooking something intentional. it’s all so nerdy. i trust they made their choices for a reason. but i still disagree with them
i guess what i was getting at is that like extra flavor details in the music like this are great but what’s underneath really matters too… the main melody plays the biggest role in storytelling here. in a critical plot moment you should be able to listen to a track and just Feel a certain emotion and get an impression of what the character is like or what the situation is like. is it happy, sad, fearful, determined? unsettling? does it actually distinctly lack a melody, and what does that say about it? like without having to study details like this behind the scenes.. you shouldn’t need a phd the song should just hit you y’know
like it doesn’t exist within a vacuum it exists in the context of ‘i’m fighting this guy who by now i know means well and has been lied to and is in denial at this point, in the hopes that he backs down from trying to change the world for the worse and admits he was wrong, so that we can please be friends’ i understand n is an unusual sort of person and that formulas and calculations are part of his character quirks. but also at his core he’s not a machine or something he’s a human being with a lot of feelings and beliefs. that’s like. a really important part of the narrative… ik he suppresses his thoughts a lot but like
ig i just would’ve expected more of that passion in him to come out during his decisive battle. you would not have to change that much about it to satisfy my conditions. like his standard battle theme works fine for him when he’s battling you just to like test and study you in a calculating sort of sense but in the endgame you’d expect it to be more dramatic. which is why i love the pokemas version where it gets fused with his castle theme it sounds absolutely perfect like that’s the n theme we needed
the like. main part of n’s battle theme like the melody part… it is full of dissonant intervals. again who knows there might be a numerical thing to it that i’m unaware of but y’know like those are the sounds that make you distinctly uncomfortable. that composers use to signify fear or evil. i once woke up in a feverish mini-panic bc that song made its way into my dreams. (and that actually made me appreciate it more not less. lol. if you strike fear into my heart that’s a compliment). and i know he is an antagonist and you should be at least a little bit afraid of him but see like that’s the kinda thing they did for like. ghetsis. the pure evil dude of all time whose name is actually music-related too. the man is so evil he got named after his own evil music. ok king
Tumblr media
basically n my man he deserves more to his battle music than sounding scary and cold
buuuut i guess you could say that’s what his encounter theme is for. ‘prisoner to a formula’ has a distinct melody (although that song is creepy lol). and then in b2w2 it gets remixed into a major key and it’s now called ‘n’s theme’ so like yay for once mr natural harmonia has a memorable theme that sounds like he gets sunlight and fresh air and that’s definitively considered to be his character theme!! yay!!!!!
idk. maybe this is all supposed to represent how he suppresses everything he feels and withdraws into his shell and his mechanical obsessive habits while he’s battling. bc his heart is distinctively not in it it’s not true to who he is as a character and also he’s in denial and trying to talk a big scary game the whole time. like the music represents his outer self not his inner self which is imo not ideal for a decisive character battle. and especially not given that his battle theme is at its core basically the same in the sequel even after he’s undergone character growth they bothered to make a remix but still didn’t add heart to it. as if they still wanted your impression of him to be offputting. but who knows!

okay once again time for some cherry magic th thoughts lmao but I'm thinking about the show's emphasis on comfort and how it's really interesting in the context of a character whose main deal (so far) is being in unrequited love with achi
bc I think it's so easy to get swept up in how we do hear karan's thoughts and therefore specifically how a;ldkfja;lkds wild his behavior is re: achi (researching cakes for a month!! buying bespoke pajamas for achi to wear at some point!! perfecting cooking eggs to make him breakfast one day!!) that it's sometimes hard to remember that, at least at this point in the story, if we remove all that and just look at his actual behavior towards achi he really.... isn't being intense or weird at all? what makes achi uncomfortable isn't karan's behavior in and of itself, it's that he knows the intention behind it which, yes, admittedly is very intense and uhaul-y
but it really is only when achi hears something he shouldn't that he feels that discomfort. like for example in this week's episode, achi reflects at the start on how he's getting comfortable with karan and feeling really happy in his presence (and we as the viewer can interpret that he's becoming aware and comfortable with liking him romantically, even if he says in that scene that he's not really sure what his feelings fully mean yet) but when he hears karan like "ah married life <3", THAT'S when he freaks out and puts distance between them. which makes sense looking at it from achi's perspective and understanding that his brain is a Complex Space (and I have additional thoughts about achi's perspective on events lmao that I should probably put in a different post) and also understanding like... it is an intense thing!! karan has a lot of intense feelings given they have not even been on a date yet and literally seem to have even only started regularly speaking recently al;jdksk;lad but it's also not something achi is supposed to know, because karan ISN'T actually being forward with him about his feelings at all with him or, IMO, crossing any lines
like the reason karan invites achi to stay with him at the end of ep 1 isn't motivated by anything sinister- we see him thinking in his head like "it'll probably take him an hour to get home, then he has to shower, and he won't get a good night's sleep" and that's why he asks him. he literally even treats saying goodnight to achi and lowering his sleep mask as some kind of transgression to be forgiven? like at every single turn in the show he is so worried about making achi uncomfortable and feels immense guilt over it when he perceives that he has made achi uncomfortable- we don't see his thoughts when they're directed to kiss during the game at the restaurant, but he doesn't look particularly thrilled (bless tay tawan for his perfect unreadable karan expressions) and he stops it as soon as he can tell achi is afraid (and says "please excuse me" in his head before kissing achi's forehead instead). he even feels guilty for defending achi against the guys trying to attack him in episode 3, chastising himself for inserting himself into achi's business and, again, for making him uncomfortable. in episode 5, he sees how he's being jealous and unfair and, again, immediately chastises himself for thinking those thoughts. while doing my ~research for this post I truly was kind of shocked at how frequently karan uses the word uncomfortable to talk about how he perceives himself as making achi feel, and it's a really sad aspect to the show, but also very interesting one
...alright this is long let me put the rest under a cut lmao
like I think it's a really fascinating thing about his character, that he does really care about achi's comfort beyond all else and is CONSTANTLY beating himself up when he feels he's crossed a line. after the kiss dare thing which literally is in no way his fault, he feels awful about how scared achi looked and says that he's the person who makes achi feel the most uncomfortable, and apologizes in his head to achi for falling for him because if he hadn't, achi wouldn't be uncomfortable, and like... that is so fucking sad!!! he's literally punishing himself for his thoughts that he isn't even acting on and the love he feels that he can't control. and honestly I am fascinated by the show including him saying "no guy would be comfortable kissing another guy" in the rooftop scene after the game- it's clearly a way to make the situation less weird and sort of give achi an out, IMO, to not have to discuss it or make it a thing like yeah!! of course no guy would want to do that!! but it is interesting in terms of the show not shying away from homophobia being a thing (and I have a LOT of thoughts about how a lot of karan's reaction to his feelings and behaviors towards achi and how extremely cautious he is could be read as having to do with internalized homophobia but this is already SO long lmao) and also how, again, he emphasizes comfort in his response
but I think the thing that is extremely sweet is that despite alllllll of achi's reservations and insecurities and stresses in the start w/r/t karan's feelings for him, when he hears karan feeling awful about making achi uncomfortable at the end of ep 2, he tells him about his inexperience and explicitly tells him that he isn't uncomfortable with the idea of kissing him. he admits something that he at the very least thinks makes him Uncool to the person he thinks is the most perfect guy in the world just because it clearly feels so wrong to him that karan feels guilt over something he shouldn't feel guilty for, because I do think on some level achi does realize that what's making him uncomfortable isn't really anything outward that karan is doing. at the end of episode 3 when karan puts distance between them by not sitting by him on the bus, achi again recognizes that karan's doing it because he thinks he's made achi uncomfortable, contemplates whether he IS actually uncomfortable, and realizes that he isn't. that he's actually very happy that karan sees him and cares for him and views him in this incredibly loving light that achi doesn't view himself. and so, similar to the end of episode 2, he takes a step towards him and tells karan to sit by him and they have that whole lovely moment, and I think this shows a lot of bravery on achi's part too, and a lot of care for him as well. achi is genuinely the person who makes the most moves which is FASCINATING to me.
I could go On and On but there's just this wonderful repeated emphasis on both of their parts to not want to make each other feel bad or uncomfortable and doing all of these little things to take care of each other, and how they're both being very brave despite having reasons not to be because they care about each other that much, and that is simply very beautiful to me and I feel a lot of things about it!!

ok so basicalyyyy
(included voiceclaims too bc its fun)
S1 involves crypt (vc david bowie) and ophelia (vc undecided atm) - ophelias arc is really quick bc i need s1 to focus more on the main villains i think. anyway the protags get lost in the woods for some reason and ophelia offers to lead them back to town but actually shes luring them deeper into the forest to her cabin so she can murder them and feed them to crypt. crypt Was her pet when she 1st found them after her parents died, but as they both grew up it turns out theyre actually fully intelligent. they make her kill people to keep them fed along with verbally and mentally abusing her and sometimes they get physically abusive too, and they often threaten to kill her if she doesnt feed them. obviously living with this for years affects her sanity, she ends up enjoying mutilating ppl as a kind of way to survive and eventually becomes more of a sadist. so anyway its obvious from the moment the protags meet her that Somethings not right just based on how erratically she acts, and they kinda sus her out pretty quick. she panics and attacks them but fails to kill them, which crypt is angry about and forces her off to the side to kill them themself. crypt dies obviously, idk how yet, maybe lenarr does it with his powers idfk. obviously ophelia is Devastated, but also relieved secretly. it takes her awhile to get over crypts death but after she does she thanks the protags and fucks off to live in her cabin peacefully lol
S2 involves noodle (vc david cross) and grem (vc 2mello), who is actually one of the main villains but hes important here i prommy - SO THIS ONES A BIGGER ONE bc i have room to do so now that the plot and characters are mostly Established. so a bit of backstory required on this one since noodle is a pre-established side character. noodle has been working at the royal familys castle since he was around 15, a lot like most of the other castle staff. unfortunately hes the one whos given the most odd/shitty jobs just by sheer coincidence, but hes convinced its because tix hates him for some reason. this isnt exactly helped by tixs spoiled rich kid personality he had when he was younger and just his general shittiness as a person (intentional or otherwise), and also indie (being tixs advisor and technically noodles 2nd boss despite being younger than him) is naturally bossy and blunt which made it worse too. so noodle is Already fed up with tix constantly antagonizing him (indie he doesnt actually care about as much because hes close friends with her boyfriend), that combined with how absolutely Nothing his personal life is, he just kinda Has it one day and decides hes going to do something awful to tix. so for context, grem is tixs ex, noodle knows he exists but doesnt actually Know him. he steals tixs old demonomicon from when they were still together and summons grem using his own blood. grem would Never miss an opportunity to torment tix at this point in the show bc he Also hates him. grem offers noodle a contract and he accepts without reading too much into it. grem basically implants a living embodiment of pure demon magic into noodles open wound (thats how he gets his snake tattoo btw) and it gives him magical powers Permanently. since noodle is my boyfailure hes very bad at using them but eventually Does get the hang of it, and plans to destroy tixs home and anyone that tries to stop him from doing so. NOW. ANOTHER bit of context. noodle was tixs go to babysitter for tiabi (tixs daughter) and noodle genuinely likes and cares for her very much. that being said, tiabi basically has to console this grown ass man whos having a major power trip rn bc shes the only one he wouldnt Ever harm in any way. this is undecided but im thinking maybe grem gets frustrated and maybe posesses noodle or something similar. hence noodles redemption episode being titled "exorcism" but idrk
S3 involves eugene (vc dana snyder) - so after the events of s2 i figured itd be good to have a silly, only semi-serious villain lol. this one was fairly recently given a MAJORRRR revision, eugene is my bffs (@/killer12345blog) oc that he made as a joke but i got attached to him lol. anyway eugene is a master shapeshifter that takes on a bastardization of tixs form to frame him for a wide variety of terrible crimes in ordsr to ruin his reputation. the reason he does this is to get tix out of the pucture so he can replace him and take over his life. he was successful in "replacing" other ppl in the past so this time he goes for tix, who is technically a very important political figure (hes a prince). while most of eugenes more sinister stuff goes on behind the scenes without it being revealed that he was the one doing it the Whole time, he pretends to be an ally to the main protags, hes actually naturally charming and his personality makes him very likeable. what hes ACTUALLY doing is cozying up to tixs friends to try to make them prefer him while furthing the evidence that tix is responsible for all eugenes crimes he did. its actually presented in a way that makes the person watching Also suspect tix. so eventually zach and lenarr realize theres some differences in how eugenetix acts vs how tix Actually acts, and start to believe it wasnt actually tix doing it. eugene gets mad as hell and goes mask off villain mode when lenarr and zach dont choose him over tix, and by that point its obvious what eugene was doing the entire time. so he attacks the protags, and since hes using tixs species as a base for the forms hes taking atm that means they cant kill him as easily bc he would only be killed by the same things that can hurt tix. This part i havent Fully gotten to just yet but they do come up with a convoluted home alone ass plan to lure eugene into a trap and kill him to DEATH (me and art agreed. even tho eugene actually dies for real im still using him as a bg character bc itd be funny)
S4 involves moff (vc uhhh. idk. who tf voices spinel from su) SO THIS ONES GONNA BE SHORT. its underdeveloped and s4 has a Lot of important shit happening w the main characters so itll be hard to fit in. a lot like s1 lol. anyway moff is an aspiring writer and is heavily invested in fandom culture and stuff lol. hes unhappy with how the writing of the show is done and wants to change it (dumb as fuck 4th wall break i know but who gaf) obviously this freaks the other characters the fuck out and they think hes crazy. BUT moff is the proud owner of a magic journal or something that he can write something in and it happens. this ones more lighthearted too, he doesnt do anything toooo awful with it its just weird and the other characters hate it so they try to stop him. this is very very hard bc of moffs journal, but they Are successful and his journal gets set on fire to get rid of it forever lol

As Wukong gets more and more death flags every season, and as more of MK's birth is revealed (with now it being confirmed that they came from the same stone and are probably technically brothers), my theory that MK was made to be Wukong's straight up replacement in some way (like not just a kid that came from the same stone that now can help around for the guy to retire, straight up just someone in heaven having reason to believe that Wukong might die in the next decades)
Bc even with Monkey King making lots of mistakes, he's still one of the biggest warriors in the region. He's still a really big advantage in battle, so even with heaven really disliking Wukong, him straight up dying and no one being there to take his place would be pretty inconvenient. Either that or, similarly to MK's apparent "destiny", with the intent being him sacrificing himself, heaven created him with the goal of postponing/avoiding Wukong's fate, (bc again, as annoying as he is, in the lmk universe, he's still one of the main reasons the world hasn't ended bc of several past threats)
But, honestly, even if it's not, I think it'd make for a cool au. Especially since the sunburst duo angst potential would be interesting
listen, MK and Nuwa talk in ep9&10 and while i whale yet to know what they’re saying, i bet you there’s talk of why she created him
honestly it’s also been my own theory that MK was made to replace and outlive SWK other than being the harbinger. basically Nuwa killing two birds with one stone (get it :3…ok i’ll go). but what happened (from what i can infer on the animation in 5x08 bc i can’t find subtitles for it yet) was that MK was woken/birthed earlier than Nuwa planned
see, i think, as Harbinger, MK is supposed to arrive at the very end of the world’s stage in order to renew a new incarnation of the earth. Nines merely sped up the process for reasons i don’t know (but i guess the current incarnation was too different from the one he knew before? so he thought causing the Great Reincarnation would grant him access to it again??? or something. or maybe so he could fight Nuwa bc he felt like he got the cheaper end of the Reincarnation deal???)
so MK would bring the end of the world so it could be a newer one and he would take SWK’s place. maybe. that might have been Nuwa’s idea? i’m spitballing rn
OR!!! or, Sun Wukong was supposed to bring the stones so start the Great Reincarnation and MK would wake up in the new world????
anyway, the thing is, just like you said, anon: as MK’s origins grow clearer, SWK’s death flags increase and i 100% believe this is connected

Rwby beyond March 30th, any theories? What are you hoping gets explored? Please let me see team OREN, 🅱️lease
given how directly salient RH was to neo’s arc in v9, i expect the same to hold true for the CFVY novels in regard to the vacuo arc, and i think making that backstory more accessible to general/casual audiences is one of the core purposes of rwby beyond—giving cliff notes in a brief animated short is a lot less of a barrier than asking viewers to read two entire novels, even if the novels in question are quite short. a succinct recap of what went down with the crown’s insurgency prior to the broadcast and arrival of refugees from atlas + character-focused shorts giving some sense of what’s been going on with the vacuo coalition in the aftermath so that v10 can hit the ground running seems the most likely. a sort of after-credits “where are they now” for v8 but with the intention of setting the stage for v10 as opposed to tying off loose ends.
i anticipate it’ll be in a similar vein to the epilogue animatic—like a more narrative-driven world of remnant-esque series where it’s in-character exposition over a sort of slide show. (what i would ideally really like is if we got the same basic story told in a different ways by different characters, rashomon style, as a way of elaborating on the story’s themes about storytelling and the nature of truth.)
i am not holding my breath for anything to do with salem or cinder or summer, but i would be over the moon to get even the tiniest crumb of what’s happening over there given that they are Clearly Not in vacuo.
given the description of “untold stories happening in remnant during v9 and even beyond” i am wondering if the series will like, end around where the storyboard epilogue does—ie with the reunion after rwbyj return—again for the purpose of easing the narrative burden at the top of v9. i could even see it going as far as settling rwbyj into the New Normal in vacuo (as in, establishing up to the equivalent of where they’re at in rwby x jl pt 2), although that depends on how important the Explanations are narratively (the more important they are, the less likely they’ll be in rwby beyond bc you want to reserve critical scenes for the show proper)
the other possibility is that “and even beyond” means in the past, in which case we might get some “missing scene”-esque shorts set during previous volumes. which i think would be pretty neat.
i would love it if we got a spot or two focused on civilians rather than the main cast—for many reasons, vacuo is the ideal point in the narrative to start breaking down the hard boundaries between huntsmen and civilians and the CFVY novels focus quite a lot on non-huntsmen experiences, so i’m pretty optimistic that this will happen generally but i’d be stoked to directly get a glimpse through the eyes of an ordinary vacuan citizen or mantelian refugee with no connection to the plot whatsoever, and the relative low-stakes of an ancillary “untold (short) stories” series is the perfect place for that. fingers crossed.
in addition to the CFVY novels recap, i’m placing my bets on a short centered on qrow, oscar+ozma, ren, nora, emerald, winter and/or the schnees, robyn and the other happy huntresses, pietro+maria and whoever else is involved with converting amity into a battleship, arrival of aid from vale and mistral, glynda, (possibly) mercury+tyrian, and raven. plus tai if he’s left his cabin. that’s assuming like WOR-length shorts; if they’re longer then these can and probably will be combined more efficiently. but broadly speaking those are the important narrative gaps to fill in.

Tell me about Olgan and Kemal! What is their relationship with their parents/family like?
What originally inspired you to make them?
Olgan and Kemal! EEE! (Under a cut bc it got long!)
The inspiration to make them - nothing in particular stands out; mostly they were just background characters in the first iteration of Discarded Hope, loosely based on two power-hitters I had in-game. (Discarded Hope was originally supposed to follow Marche's brother and Montblanc, and delve into Marche's past of being neglected because Doned needed more care from their mother. I will eventually write this story...) Kemal was a Paladin with Fighter skills, and Olgan was a Black Mage with White Mage capabilities (and items equipped that boosted the spells cast). While I was writing up the first part of the first chapter, Kemal decided to make come-hither eyes at Olgan, and I remember writing out Soft Care (then just titled Side Story) in the attempt to get the two to leave me alone...yeah, that didn't work. I ended up re-rewriting everything (and making edits to their Jobs) to figure out their story.
Kemal is youngest of two and a "runaway" of a prominent noble family (eeeeh, still trying to place where in the noble hierarchy I want them to be). His father, Evren, is a Paladin who was granted a title for heroic deeds; while his mother, Sena, is a Monk/Fighter, and is the reason why Kemal dual-wields swords. Kemal idolizes his parents, and wanted to follow in their footsteps (was originally training as a Paladin, with intent to become a Judge). He eventually became disillusioned with the Judges while training to become one (there's a lot of corruption, etc), and ends up leaving on a journey to figure himself out, with his parents' blessing (Evren gets Kemal set up into his first clan, pulling a few strings with old friends). His sister, Lela, is 10(ish) years older than Kemal, dislikes fighting and dedicated her time learning how to navigate politics to keep their family safe in other ways (she's the main reason their family is as prominent as it is, otherwise it'd be an empty title). Lela nags him whenever he goes home, for him to settle down and be more respectable (she dislikes how rumors circulated amongst the nobles on how "uncivilized" he's become (with digs on how their family is "jumped up"/etc), and he cuts his visits short when it gets to be too much (Evren and Sena miss him and also wish he'd stay, but also don't want to cage him in.)
Olgan was raised by his mother, Letia, who was a high ranking Black mage, but does not know/remember his father (a Summon/Eidolon/Esper, whatever term you prefer; not gonna say *which* one, but it's a very powerful entity. >:3 ) Said Eidolon was trapped on Ivalice by Letia's clan (their mages sort of forced them into a vessel of their choice, a sacrificial male Hume; the vessel's physical form was overwritten when the spirit was bound, giving the body characteristics/powers of the Eidolon, with controlling magic to make them do what the clan wanted). Letia disagreed with what they were doing and helped them escape, eventually falling in love with the trapped Eidolon, and Olgan was the result. Her clan chased them, and the Eidolon was eventually “killed” (physical form destroyed, spirit returning to the Land of Eidolons), leaving Letia to flee and raise Olgan on her own (he's about 2-3 when this happens). Even as a child, Olgan could use a lot of spells, which Letia had to teach him to control and hide (most toddlers aren't able to cast any spells, while Olgan was casting both basic black and white magic). This made her paranoid and strict with Olgan, though she tried her best to ensure that he knew he was loved. Letia was eventually caught by her old clan in a Jagd, and sacrificed herself to take them out and protect him (Olgan would be about 8-ish when this happened). He wandered around in the Jagd and was caught by slavers, was bought and sold for a few years, then Kilov "rescued" him when (he held this over Olgan's head for a long time). He was trained to be a thief (and then plaything), then his magical abilities made themselves known (primarily the black magic) and had to learn to use them quickly. Olgan is about 16-17 when he is injured on a mission and lands himself in Matius' safehouse the first time, and the Gladiator-turned-Priest immediately tries to adopt convince him to stay in the Order. He's in and out of the safehouse for a few years more (making friends w/ the Order and warming up to Matius and his unsubtle attempts at fathering him), when the incident with Lorek happens, Olgan takes the chance to flee the Jagd and change his life around.

Rewrite! Nora and that mysterious non canon oc I keep thinking about ( will she get out of purgatory and become canon? Who knows...)
Fun lil fact: for the majority of the rewrite Nora has her hair in a ponytail and her face tends to hide behind her cap. For practicality and making herself feel more hidden. Though at some point she realizes she doesn't have to hide anymore - mainly bc the cult leaders now know who she is and she has to face them head on anyway. So she ends up ditching the hat, allowing herself to wear something more bright. Still something practical and easy to move in, but also something to show how far she's come - not letting her own paranoia and anxiety get the best of her. She's not alone anymore! She has people she can trust and rely on! They will save Torren! And yeah! That's when she starts wearing her hair down more akin to her canon design, though very much not having the glaring The Girl issue.
Tangent time: I feel like Nora's canon design doesn't fully tell us what her character is like? Yeah, she kinda looks like Celebi with the colors, but what is she like! Like she looks like your standards girly girl, which is fine, but the plot of the game never really showcases that? It could have been fun " I look like this, but there's a lot more to me than that" story line. But they don't , alas. And to be clear, I don't hate how she looks canonically, nor do I think every character design has to be super intentional - sometimes to want a character to look cool. But with the context of Nora throughout the story, it becomes glaringly obvious that she's The Girl of our main character trio. Damian is able to have a character design change as he grows as a character, but Nora doesn't? What about her design reflects this smart, albeit competing girl that takes her role seriously? Again, it's not bad that she's designed the way she is, but the design and how Nora actually acts is kinda disconnected imo. Of course, that's just me, and I am by no means an expert here.
Rewrite! Nora's first design was pretty much made with her changes: she's a much more experienced trainer, and has been training for years now. She is VERY aware of the danger she could be in, hence why wears muted colors and wears her cap the way she does. Her outfit is meant for traveling and laying low- however, one thing that kinda breaks that is her ankle warmers. They aren't exactly the most practical thing out there, but I when designing her with picrew I genuinely just thought it was cute and gave her design more shape. So why not that be the reason for Nora? She thought it was cute, so she wore it. It isn't that outlandish to have eyes on her anyway. All in all, her initial design is meant to be very closed off- obviously of someone who has things to hide and of someone who is a bit more experienced. Nora is someone who feels like the weight of the world is on her shoulders, and for so long has felt alone in her mission. Even when she finds more people like her, she's still wary, hell probably even more stressed bc she doesn't want the two newbies to get caught ( especially Damian). She doesn't really allow herself to indulge in things she likes bc it means not focusing on her own survival. I cannot stress how stress this girl is for the majority of the plot in my rewrite. She is stressed. I think a very simple way of saying it is that Nora's first design is pretty much showing how she's surviving but not living. That's what happens when you're 16 and the world is on your shoulders.
Man, I was not expecting to ramble about Nora here. I kinda feel bad for our mystery of, but uh. She doesn't even have a name sooooooooo. She'll be fine.

As your not a big fan of fantasy books in general. What drew you into loving asoiaf? What got you hooked?
now that I'm invested in asoiaf I do genuinely like the fantasy elements of the story, but the stuff that really pulled me in was the human drama and political intrigue etc. I love the character work, almost all of the POVs feel fully realised and subvert typical tropes in really interesting ways (imo). I like the inter-generational drama (the reasons I like succession are v similar to the reasons I like the Lannisters), like if I want to understand Jaime and Cersei and Tyrion I can look to Tywin, and if I want to understand Tywin I can look to Tytos, and if I was to understand Tytos I can look to Gerold, like it's a russian doll of intergenerational trauma what more could a girl want.
and on that note I really like the scope! GRRM obviously feels this need to account for all details minor and major, so that even with everything that's already on the page there's room to extrapolate so much more. i mean here I am writing who knows how many words about a fake 20-episode long robert's rebellion tv series lol like this all happened before the series even starts and yet I hardly need to make anything up bc there is so much to draw on just based on all the random little details we've got here and there from characters reflecting on the same events from different angles, and trying to piece together portraits of the people who died based on the recollections of those on the page who remember them..... it is so fun)
and yeah usually I prefer to read about that kind of thing on a smaller scale but the drama that plays out in AGOT is so engaging that upon initiation I didn't find it so much of a chore to keep track of all the various houses and lands etc in order to understand the full implications of each thing that happened - it felt like it was worth the effort. generally it's the 'keeping track' of it all that I find grating about fantasy bc I really want to just get on with the story rather than keep on top of a hundred magic systems and sub-species of pixie.
and obvs asoiaf is low fantasy rather than high fantasy, i.e. there aren't intricate systems to the magic and or complicated genus for each of the creatures, so that made it feel a lot more accessible for me as someone who just isn't very interested in those kinds of details. Dany's magic is made up as she goes along, it's never explained, and that's the same for pretty much all the fantastical elements - it's very show don't tell. and even though when you count it all up there are quite a lot of fantastical features and subplots, taken together with the rest of the story it's more like.... seasonings I wouldn't usually choose but ended up liking just fine in this overall dish lol
and finally asoiaf just really appealed to me from a fannish perspective! I really hate when you're trying to dig deeper with a work and you quickly start to realise that the writer(s) just weren't thinking that hard. it feels like striking concrete with a spade, like it's a one-sided conversation rather than something both the writer and the reader are participating in. I think some fans are perfectly fine with that and good for them - who cares if the author built the work to sustain your analysis if you're just having fun doing it - but for me it's a complete killjoy, I end up v frustrated and like the work isn't worth my time
so here's GRRM who is so fixated on the finer details that he's churned out a history book like 700 pages long and a bunch of short stories and also another history book just to add a bit more texture to the main story. and I don't have to worry about network input or co-writers or actors' intentions or whatever other external conflict or influence cos for better or worse it's all his story. and that just suits me better lol, it's one guy and his shitty computer, and me reading the shit he wrote with it. pure and simple living in the moment no phones in sight
also jaime and brienne are everything to me xo

Imma talk abt yanderes in Redacted real quick (it might not be real quick, idk yet)
Short version, I actually really like them, but I've always liked yanderes even outside of Redacted so mmyeah. I don't like all of them, but I like them 😎👍
Long version 👇
I think I like yanderes bc I want to feel needed/wanted and the thought of someone being so obsessed with me to the point of wasting their days just to get a glimpse of me is kinda reassuring that I'm not just a waste of space (it's unheathly, I know, but that's not the point I'm trying to get at). That is to say that that statement "I like yanderes" only applies to the ones don't outright harm me, don't have bad intentions, or don't have a good concept of common sense. Now I'll be listing all the yandere (all characters explicitly said to be yanderes, so not Kody) characters and my thoughts on them as a yandere. :)))
Ivan
I don't like him much, but that's to say I haven't finished his yandere playlist yet soooo yeah... The main reason I feel this way is mainly that he is very willing to beat the shit out of me if it means he can keep me in his house, which is a big red flag (yes I know all these yanderes r red flags, but beating the person you're obsessed with up? that a WHOLE other level of fucked up red flag). The character himself and all his voice acting and depth is very cool and interesting, he just isn't my type in terms of yanderes.
Regulus
No, no, no. Absolutely not, no thank you please. I also haven't finished his playlist and I don't think I will. He is like Ivan just a tad a lot a bit too much unhinged when he does what he does. Don't get me wrong, the character on its own is a very unique concept, I just can't handle him in action. He goes into the category "doesn't have a good concept of common sense" because all the fucked up shit stuff he does to his victim (idk what his listener's name is :\). So yeah, not my type thank you very much.
Blake
Yes, immaculate, I'll take this to go please. He is very sweet and is willing to destroy the entire universe and another to save me and I think thats very cute of him to do for me. No, what he did isn't very cool for the redacted universe, but he he went to death and back for me, and that makes me feel very special thx for that pooks. The first audio of his that I listened to was his confession one and by golly I was hooked already. He knows he's problematic and he knows his limits, and knows it's a lot for someone to handle and doesn't want me to have to have him around in a romantic way bc he knows he won't be able to give me space and that's just so very hot. AND he's a friends to lovers, which is one of my favourite tropes, so of course I like him. 10/10, would give him many kith kith on the lips.

Hehehhhehehhehehe, hi babes 🥰. 10000000000000/10, voice is like an angle, actions are non-existent, but he makes up for it by ordering me around and that is so very hot. And if I dare say, he has at least some common sense, that of which being him holding himself back from something and saying "...but not yet" in his cute little emo voice. He's a patient guy and that is very admirable, but he also knows how to be assertive which is also admirable and hot. Yes he’s scary, but he’s scary in a “oh shit he could do something really bad, but like, he’s kinda hot” way. He’s got no face, no name, yet I’d still let him boss me around and tell want to do. Also he gives me major Ghostface vibes and I’m LIVNG for that shit. Love this guy, he’s a sigma, would let him break through my walls and take me away to his torture dungeon, absolute smash, can’t get enough of him, give him kith kith on the lips and more, favourite yandere by far.
