A Pragmatic and surprisingly comforting perspective about the Trump 2nd Presidency from the ACLU
***Apologies if this is how you found out the 2024 election results***
Blacked out part is my name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m not going to let this make me give up. It’s disheartening, and today I will wallow, probably tomorrow too
AND
I will continue to do my part in my community to spread the activism and promote change for the world I want to live in. I want to change the world AND help with the dishes.
And I won’t let an orange pit stain be what stops me from trying to be better.
A link to donate to the ACLU if able and inclined. I know I am

Welcome to Campaign Season, BC.
It's October 21. Have you received your voter card? Are you registered to vote?
Tumblr media
If you are not sure, the proper step is to REGISTER HERE. Per Elections BC FAQ, all new requests will be checked against existing registrations, and updated if necessary. You won't get into trouble by re-registering.
HEY TEENS: Did you know that 16 and 17 year olds can pre-register to vote? You can join the List of Future Voters HERE. That will automatically put you on the registry once you turn 18. Tell your friends.
And for newcomers, remember that in Canada you do NOT need to be registered with any political party to vote. No election official or polling place volunteer is allowed to ask your affiliation, though political staff and survey pollsters can - but not inside polling places. And they must identify themselves and who they are working for. And you don't have to answer.

Y'all I did NOT know this about Harris, and I think it's really critical that we all listen and understand as we approach this election. Video at the end.
This creator's video describes how progressive Harris was as a prosecutor -- actively going against the grain to the point she was accused of being soft on crime. Accused of being a social worker, not a prosecutor. She calls it being smart on crime. She's pushing for systemic changes to give real pathways to reintegrate incarcerated folks back into society and prevent their past from continuing to haunt them moving forward.
"Kamala's a cop" is a catchy dismissive response usually used to shut down conversation rather than add nuance. But this kind of reform is ESSENTIAL to work towards a present and future that treats incarcerated people with value.
I fell for it in 2020 and have thought "Kamala's a cop" without further inspection since - and I'm sobered by the realization that (you guessed it!) I'm not immune to propaganda.
A better system only follows liberal democracy, because library democracy allows for exploration of better systems. If authoritarianism takes hold, it will not allow for the exploration of better systems. We will have to fight tooth and nail just to try to get back to liberal democracy, and I suspect we could not achieve it in our lifetimes.
Harris isn't perfect. But she's a hell of a lot better than many leftists have led me to believe. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. Don't let perfection be the enemy of harm reduction.
We can either help elect Trump and usher in authoritarian fascism, or we can help defeat him and pull things back in the direction we want to go. Not liking the choices doesn't absolve you from participating and doing the most good you can with the options available.
I'll link the original video in the replies. The original video has captions if you need them.

Guess who's excited to get their ballot in the mail tomorrow? Me! So I slapped together a quick comic, as well as a map based off of this and this. A list of when same day registration is available is at the bottom of this article.
But also: wow, early voting stuff is so confusing! For example, I get my ballot in the mail tomorrow, and I can immediately mail it back. But if I want to drop it off in person, I need to either go to a special ballot drop box by city hall, or wait for early in-person voting sites to open, which isn't until Oct 22nd for my state.
Or like, early voting in Louisiana is apparently from Oct 16 to Oct 29th? And then there's a week of no voting, and then polls open again on Nov 5th? Or like how the only day you can register and then immediately vote is Oct 26th?
Anyway, best way to figure out the info for your area is to check your state and county's election website. I've found usvotefoundation.org to have clear fact sheets for each state (including ID requirements, polling location finders, as well as direct links to state election websites): https://www.usvotefoundation.org/state-voter-information . You can also jump to each state's election websites via usa.gov, or by searching directly, though some websites are more confusing than others.
Happy voting!
Oh, and here's the voter registration deadlines map from last time, in case you haven't registered and want to register. Oct 7th is the last day for a bunch of states!

The Republican counties get counted first. This isn't indicative of the winner.

We are once again seeing the impact of splitting the left vote here in BC.
As it stands, the election is too close to call. Everything hinges on the last few seats. If current leads hold for the final ballot boxes, we'll have an NDP-GREEN minority government. But if even two seats flip, it'll be a Conservative majority.
Many of these races are coming down to a couple hundred votes difference between the Conservatives and the NDP. Often in ridings where the Green Party received thousands of votes. Sure there are some ridings where the Conservatives were genuinely preferred by the electorate - where they got something like 75% of the vote and crushed the left. But there are also a lot of ridings with like a 44-43-9 split where the left splitting between two parties handed the Conservatives the win.
In better news, advance polls and vote-by-msil had record turnouts. Good on everyone for making sure they voted by any means available!

POC solidarity is a joke. Y'all just wanna ride Black peoples backs into the ground just to kick us in the side to get up and ride again because the road we paved worked and died for in order to just try and rise above white supremacy is still too uncomfortable under y'all's feet.
Gender solidarity is a joke. Y'all truly are the bitch ass daughters of Susan B Anthony, crying in the soft ass cell white supremacy has built for you while Black women's bodies have been stolen, abused, gutted, displayed, and rotting for centuries, yet still kept marching.
I don't care what argument anybody else will want to say, it's fucking true.
When Dread Scott's decision is amended and re-stated by Trump's hand picked fruit basket, just know those chains will now extend to you.
