Laziness
Sometimes all that she needs is a moment of silence, of pure laziness, distant from everything that surrounds her frenetic routine. Most of times, she finds shelter in the ice desert Europan camp, some fewer times, itā€™s the vast void of space as her ship floats in orbitā€¦
ā€¦and some even fewer times, itā€™s her home, in the Last City.
The Solstice Festival would soon come, giving common people and Guardians a reason to celebrate and have hope for better days ā€” even if they seem darker than usual since the Travelerā€™s parting ā€”, and the preparations for it roll in the city. The chirp and flaps from birds crossing the sky could be heard if they flew close from her apartment, and once in a while she could hear the voices from her neighbors.
Lying down on her bed, staring at the white ceiling and listening to the Cityā€™s life from the window. These have been her past few days since the last threat against Sol was pushed away and fragile peace returned. The weight of her own body feels strange without her armor, and her joints creaked with any movement, and whatever remaining of attention that she has in that state is listening the sounds from the window.
There, she finds peace, even if for just a fleeting moment.
Because when she lets her mind wander, sheā€™s brought back to action, disturbed by memories and disfigured sensations imprinted in her system.
The blood of enemies in her hands, of allies, and her own gushing out from her limbs. Violent crashes against her body, the living sensation of skin and bones being torn apart, the image of maimed bodies regardless of which side they were from, the deafening song chanted by shooting rifles and machine guns, the fitting heaviness of the Lament in her hands, the slithering worms in her husk feeding from her brain, the sight of a black tower, the judgement of countless empty eyes watching, the lack of purposeā€” A sharp breathing.
And sheā€™s back to her bed, to the eerie peace her life was never made for.
And she realizes that maybe ā€” and just maybe ā€” sheā€™s just tired.

Iā€™M SO GLAD THAT Iā€™VE FOUND SOMEONE THAT ENJOYS CREPIC. THEREFORE YOU ARE GETTING A HC.
Iā€™ve recently seen a trope somewhere that if partner A has noticeable scars, partner B will kiss them as a small romantic or comforting gesture. Ever since Iā€™ve seen this trope I have not stopped thinking about crepic. IT FITS SO WELL???
Like, obviously Epic has the scar on his eye. His magic eye has caused him years of suffering and awful nightmares. Itā€™s been nothing more to him than a burden. And the scar is just another reminder that he can never let go of everything thatā€™s been done to him. But whatever, heā€™s gotten over it. But imagine Epic going over to Crossā€™ house for a sleepover, and late at night the two are just lying in Crossā€™ bed talking about something stupid, when their conversation suddenly turns more personal. This slowly leads to Epic opening up about how much of a struggle it is to live with his eye. Of course, he doesnā€™t go too much into detail, since he was never really one to speak about his personal life.
And Cross canā€™t help but feel so guilty for his poor best friend after listening to him talk about how much pain he had to endure for so long. Epic keeps insisting that heā€™s fine and that itā€™s not a big deal, but Cross wants to give the person he cares about so much the desperate comfort he needs. One way leads to another and Cross ends up leaning over and kissing the scar on Epicā€™s eye while gently cupping his face or something. (bonus points if Cross also kisses the scars on Epicā€™s hands). AND EPIC WOULD PROB BE HOLDING BACK TEARS THE ENITRE TIME BUT WOUDL EVENTUALLY CRAKC CUZ SOMEONE ACTUALLY FINDS BEAUTY IN HIS INSECURITIES AND UHHUHGH.
Iā€™m so ashamed that this became a huge rant when it didnā€™t need to be šŸ™šŸ™ (But seriously Iā€™m so starved of crepic that itā€™s becoming torturous. I need to be fed more fanfics bc thereā€™s only 30 on ao3. Nsfw or not I need to be fed.)
WEEPING CRYING YES!!!!!!!!!! epic is so ignored in crepic fics mostly because people donā€™t bother to read his auā€™s comic (itā€™sā€¦ a long oneā€¦ so i get it lmfao), and i might be one of those people though not because a lack of adoration for his canon but because cross is my favorite idiot and epic is hard to write. BUT!!!!!! I LIKE THIS A LOT.
scar kissing can go one of two ways, very very good, or very very bad. personally if anyone tried to kiss my scars theyā€™d get clocked, but it depends for the character (and person). some people think itā€™s cringe worthy, other people think itā€™s sweet. EYE SCARS HOWEVER? OH HO HO. THOSE NEED TO BE KISSED RIGJT FUCKIJG NOWā€¦ ABSOLUTELY YES. epicā€™s whole eye ordeal like ruined his life and made him damn near suicidal. i havenā€™t read the side comics in a little while for epic but iirc when heā€™s killed he thinks something along the lines of ā€˜isnt this what ive been waiting for?ā€™ or something? could be wrong idk i havenā€™t read it in a few months. but either way that eye, and that scar as a reminder, really fucked him up. and epicā€™s the kind of guy to gloss over that entirely. but cross is an overthinker at his core so when he catches wind of this itā€™s going to be on his mind forever probably.
i love. i love the idea that cross just holds epicā€™s face and kisses his scars. holy shit i love that so much. dear god. he absolutely should get to do that. cross cares sososo much about epic but epic never tells him anything!!! so when cross gets a whiff of his internal turmoil he is gonna DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!! and epic is gonna FEEL EMOTIONS!!!!!!
I LOVE characters cupping someoneā€™s face while kissing them while paying mind to their traumas and letting them know that you treasure them and and and combusts into a superbillion molecules
goddd this idea. /pos. AND YOURE SO REAL ABOUT THE FIC THING THEY SHOULD HAVE MORE FICS LIKE??? WHAT???!!!!! thereā€™s barely any fics out there for them compared to so many other ships. every night i pray that i wake up and someone dropped a 200k+ word slow burn crepic ā€˜forbiddenā€™ (because crossā€™ job and epicā€™s residence) romance best friends to lovers au fic. but those prayers always go unanswered. ive scoured the entire site for them, ive started going to WATTPAD, DAMNIT!!!!!!!!! bleh. i donā€™t even care about ratings or tags anymore as long as itā€™s consensual and legal im fine please give me more content with them šŸ™

Leverage character asks: 1,3,17,45 (your choice on character)
thank you for the ask & for fueling my leverage obsession lol <3
1. Canon I outright reject
honestly i love the character development on leverage, even when it means the character has some negative traits or weaknesses or something. hmmā€¦ i think one thing i disliked was hardison being a super bad tipper (some ep in s5). he doesnā€™t care about workers? particularly after five years of leverage? idk.
i also wish eliot didnā€™t seem to like cops so much, but thats more of a gripe with the showā€™s/showrunnersā€™ attitudes towards police.
3. Obscure headcanon
sophie: that sheā€™s trans! love that hc. shout out to @transsophiedevereaux. also that sophie had a drunken one night stand with maggie, which is actually (word of god) canon rather than a head canon, but seems to be rarely mentioned.
nate: nate x sophie x sterlingā€¦ itā€™s happened at least once.
parker: so many!! but the one iā€™ll share is that. uh. sheā€™s probably killed someone. pre-leverage, sheā€™s known to be dangerous for a reason, and sheā€™s been in a lot of awful situations unfortunately. she would probably have done so out of necessity, it might even have been self defense, but yk. itā€™s still killing someone. and no, i donā€™t mean the pilot flashback - according to word of god (ie john rogers) she probably didnā€™t kill her foster parents when exploding their house. anyway, iā€™ve seen some cool fics about this idea and discussed this topic w @laser-tripwires and i think itā€™s really interesting for a variety of reasons, but i wonā€™t list them here bc this is already getting so long lol.
hardison: that he still secretly adds to nanaā€™s income somehow (he canonically paid off her medical bills), that he plays D&D, that he likes [insert media beloved by geeks that i donā€™t really know much about, but i love that people hc him as enjoying the things they enjoy so much].
eliot: my own silly hc that many of his scars are actually from kitchen accidents rather than fights lol
17. Quotes, songs, poems, etc. that I associate with them
gonna answer this one for sophie only, cause i have quite a few answers just for her!
1) i saw a gif set of sophie once with the lyrics of "thief" by imagine dragons, and it was a really gorgeous gif set and the lyrics fit very well.
2) yk the fable "the scorpion and the frog"? at the end of s1, she seems to excuse her actions (conning the team) like the scorpion - that itā€™s just in her nature, lying is who she is, sheā€™s a thief and this is what thieves do, etc. additionally, itā€™s what sterling says about her, that her behaviour was predictable because itā€™s "who she is".
3) the gambler by kenny rogers. bc the chorus is canonically her life philosophy lmao (according to the last dam job).
45. Their favorite celebrity
sophie: canonically, db cooper. she idolises him in the db cooper job lol. poster above her bed as a teenager etc etc.
nate: man, his would be oddly specific im sure. like he reads war strategy books, maybe sun tzu. or perhaps a chess grandmaster, like bobby fischer. i donā€™t know much about war strategists nor chess players, so if anyone does, then maybe you can suggest a more specific person.
hardison: i know he loves star trek, doctor who, star wars - im simply not pop culture savvy enough to know who his fave actors from those shows might be. BUT. i think it would be funny if his fave celebrity was wil wheaton (who was in star trek, and who, of course, played cha0s in leverage). also, wil wheaton is famously into D&D, video games, comics, and other "geek" stuff that hardison proudly enjoys too. hardison does not see the resemblance btwn wheaton and his nemesis, no idea what youā€™re taking about.
eliot: i think he would have people he looks up to or thinks are incredible, who are celebrities but only in a very specific field. like a renowned chef, but not a "celebrity chef" as in one whoā€™s on tv. i mean like a chef who is famous among chefs, for being one of the most talented in the world.
parker: i feel her definition of celebrity would be somewhat different to most peopleā€™s. plus, her knowledge of the world is deep but narrow - she knows everything possible about thievery and anything even tangentially related (probably a decent amount of physics, for example), but pop culture? not so much. she later gets into stuff like dr who via hardison though, so perhaps the actor of the current doctor, ncuti gatwa. now, thereā€™s also famous thieves, BUT theyā€™re generally only famous because they eventually got caught. parker does not get caught. she would not idolise someone who ended up caught. maybe the thief of an unsolved heist. honestly, parker is famous in the leverage crime world. so. herself? not that she enjoys being a celebrity lol.

(I have been trying to write this post for a while, but it keeps coming out like a sob story, and it is really not that deep jkfdgkj
So I am just going to say it, bc you guys know I love to ramble for ages, and I need some opinions
1 year of this blog is tomorrow (or today depending on how long I take to write this kjldfg), and I really do appreciate you all being here - if you have been here since the beginning, or just followed recently - if you've sent an ask, liked, reblogged, shared with a friend, theorised, made fanart, or followed me to my art blog and watched me make (and continue to make) a billion clones, anything; thank you
I made this blog on a whim, only like a week after getting into Pizza Tower, and I had no idea it would turn into what it is now
Of course, in the beginning there were a lot of actual posts, like with backgrounds and multiple characters, and I'd post several times a day if I could - and while I was having fun, it was not ideal - I'd frequently post at 7am after spending all night working on a post then I'd pass out, I'd forgo eating or showering just to draw, and I had wrecked my wrist several times, and continue to push pass the pain just to post
It wasn't just hyperfixation, it was obsession - much easier to realise that in retrospect
I was also medicated at the time, I had been on antidepressants for 3 years, so around April (I think) I ran out of meds and was unable to get more due too third party issues/unable to get in contact with my doctor/etc (and unbeknownst to me at the time, the last two packs I had were expired) - so I am sure you can imagine the sort of affect suddenly going cold turkey on the med that make you not wanna die has on a person - I was not doing great to put it lightly
But I still wanted to continue - so many people had praised me on the frequency of posts, and how excited they were and all this validation - I couldn't let people down! (Also I was, and still am, a disabled shut-in loser with no friends, posting is like the only social interaction I had/have kdfgkgfd)
But I think I did - I intimidated myself out of drawing main posts with how much work they were, started the intermission even though I said I shouldn't, had no script or direction and that I was not 100% invested in to try to motivate myself back into main posts, and it was just easier to draw silly ooc posts than do the thing I really wanted to do instead
Of course, this is not any of you guys' fault - I have always had this issue of starting something, it getting way bigger than I can manage, crashing and then just unable to get going again - I have so many unfinished comics, half-done projects and abandoned askblogs it's not even funny - but it's also like, not the end of the world, if I don't finish things I start for fun - sure, I'll feel guilty as hell for a while, but life moves on
So that being said, I would still very much like to continue the story here - I have been working on some stuff in the background (I even updated Pep's reference in the last few days, with a ton of new stuff), but I still don't think it's gonna be soon - I am doing somewhat better than I was, and I actually have an appointment for with my doctor finally (I will probably have to do some reassessments since they can't just put me back on the meds, after not having them for almost a year, and then I'd have to probably get reaccustomed to side effects etc), so despite it all I am still here
I am not sure if I want to continue the intermission with Bean and Fiend at this time - I know a few folks enjoyed it (mostly bc Fiend kjsdfkj) - but as mentioned previously it was unplanned, unscripted, and I was quickly not feeling it, as I am sure some of you guys were too - the intention was for Fiend to give you guys another hint to the main story, but getting to that point was not fun - I might do a poll on this in a separate post
I also mentioned a while back that I would be cutting down the Big Post into smaller posts, and posting as and when parts were done - but once again, do not expect these soon - (although there is a very late Valentines post coming hopefully soon)
And I think that should hopefully be it for now - I know this is a huge post, and probably still a bit sob story-ish, but oh well - I also know that the hype for Pizza Tower had unfortunately died down significantly, but I'm still working on PT stuff on my art blog @smalltimidbean if you wanna see more silly things (and maybe some lore for here hehe)
It is also the first now, so happy birthday Pep
Okay, thank you, and see you later)

hello!! i loved ur miguel/peter fic! heres a few things that might help since h said u havent seen the movie :3 (spoilers inbound)
-his fangs are paralyzing if youre bitten by them, but a lot ppl hc that it doesnt affect other spiderppl that way or at least as much
-miguel has a brother in the comics named gabriel (my favorite o'hara) who calls him miggy (which might be a fun "peter u dont get to call me that" moment or smthn idk)
-this is more of my fix idea than info but lot of ppl hc miguel as an Actual vampire or having those tendencies which can be fun for mig/peter. theres tons of art of miguel drinking from peter that i think uve seen which definitely lends itself to be ..intimate.. its always fun to have a spicy scene that either starts with or includes drinking from someone.
-to jump off of that, miguel has to take an addictive drug called "rapture" bc he was dosed with it by his dad when he tried to leave the lab and now he needs it for the rest of his life. maybe blood is an alternative when he cant get that? maybe he and peter found out by trial and error? theres lot of hurt comfort in a "i bit you in a fit of blood rage" after that person comes out of it
sry for the long post i just had so many thoughts to share
Ahh ty ty šŸ«¶šŸŒø I still havenā€™t seen the movie askddd but Iā€™ve seen clips and read things abt him to help with writing him lmao.
- Personally, my headcanon is that he can control the venom he administers, like real species of snakes/spiders. So he can he put more/less/or no venom into a bite. (Iā€™m unsure if this is disproven in the comics, but is my personal hc sksds) Along with this, my miguel is still like comic miguel where his fangs are not retractable, bc I like that abt him Sksds.
- Ahh Iā€™ve heard of his brother! I believe heā€™s the venom in some runs and is the reason that Miguelā€™s wife dies? I could imagine a scene of Peter trying to come up with silly nicknames and Peter saying ā€œMiggy?ā€ And Miguel going ā€œnoā€¦no, not that one.ā€ (Iā€™ve already thought abt this, head in my hands.)
- ahh I could totally be down to do a vampire au for Miguel those are good ideas ueueueue.
- Iā€™ve heard different things abt rapture and that heā€™s only reliant on it in some runs more than others? but aghg Iā€™d have to read more up on it on my own.
Anyway,, Ah ty ty thank u for the info and ideas! Iā€™m really glad u enjoyed my fics. Iā€™ll hopefully be posting more spiderdads sometime soon šŸ«¶šŸŒø (along with some that include MJ ahh šŸ’šŸŒøšŸ«¶)

Hello there!! I was looking through some of the discord shenanigans posts and I was just wondering if youā€™re accepting new members?
Hi! Well first of all, glad you enjoyed the comics! It means a lot to know that you enjoyed those silly shenanigans ā¤ļø
Sadly Iā€™ve already left the server recently, so canā€™t really help much šŸ¤·
For ppl curious my rambling, as always, will be under read morešŸ‘‡
As for you question:
the serverā€™s called ā€œTSP creators clubā€
yes, I believe they still accept new members, you can contact @/kelpiekidd or @/heckinrissa I think (not tagging them, to not disturb them)
Theyā€™re mods there, should help with it šŸ¤·
This might sound weird to some ppl bc I was heavily associated with TSPcc
To be frank I wouldnā€™t be where I am right now, if not TSPcc: I wouldā€™ve never stuck with The Stanley Parable for as long as I did, never couldā€™ve met so many wonderful creative people (many of whom are my friends right now)
+the server kick-started my recognition as a creator
For that Iā€™m thankful and still look back at this part of my life with a warm smile
But nothing can last forever
(god Iā€™m saying it like something horrible happened, which is not the case)
Basically
The reasons are mostly the same as why I left the TNP fic*: Iā€™m not active on the server + most of my friends left from there
(*TNP - The Narrative Parable fanfic ā€“ a collaborative project involving many other creators and narrators)
So um yea, this might not be enough of a reason
But I will not do a whole comic on ā€œThe history of TSP fandomā€ right šŸ““šŸ–‹ļø
(oh wait I might actually šŸ˜šŸ’„ you will maybe get this joke far in the future)
___________________
I also want to address
Discord Shenanigans aged, quite a lot
I do not regret making those comics, I still like them to this day
But
That content is not something I want to be known for, to me, itā€™s part of the past
I look back at them as archived memories
They are like an old photo album of sorts šŸ“’
____________________
This does not mean Iā€™m leaving TSP fandom
Want to be clear on that one
I still enjoy the game and the community it built around itself
Yes I still enjoy the fandom, despite meaningless drama in the community that ruins the fun for everyone
(Itā€™s my first fandom I was a part of, Iā€™m biased ok šŸ˜ˆ)
ā€¼ļø I do not justify any messed up people who are or were in the fandom ā€¼ļø
What Iā€™m trying to say that drama/creepy people are just part of any fandom experience honestly
I totally understand people who just donā€™t want to be a part of the fandom, itā€™s reasonable and valid. Iā€™ve heard some really messed up stuff, I donā€™t know the full extent of every situation and donā€™t want to discuss it. I donā€™t believe I have the right, nor the information to even mention it. Creeps are not a fandomā€™s problem, creeps are just a problem.
And if people donā€™t want to address those situations: do not harass them with questions. If people want to address their experience or thoughts, they will. If they donā€™t want to start drama/donā€™t feel comfortable/just simply donā€™t want to - you should respect their decision. No person is obligated to report anything to the crowd.
On the side note (since I canā€™t shut up) - Barry
I kinda šŸ‘€
I kinda wanna explore him as a character and tell the story I made for him šŸ‘€āœØ
I will make a separate post about him later down the road
But as for now: yes the potential story revolves around tsp + Narratorverse aspects, yes I may abandon that idea bc of how complicated it is, yes Iā€™m talking and overthinking too much - we will get there when we get there šŸ¤š
So Iā€™m still here, I still care about tsp creators: they do amazing stuff and they are wonderful people
As always sorry for that scroll of text šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰ thanks for your time, see you in the next random huge text post šŸ‘‹

Was wondering who's your favourite Jason Todd writer. (Maybe least favourite too)
Oooh this is a tough one! In part because I'm not entirely sure who to count as a Jason Todd writer, and in another part because I'm trying to pick someone other than Winick bc saying it's him feels too obvious lmao
The joke answer is Bruce Jones, because I genuinely adore Nightwing: Brothers In Blood, though I uhhh- look I GET why other people do not xD
But really maybe I should just bite the bullet and say it's Judd Winick. I do love what he did with the character and I can say with confidence that I'm not just listing him cause of Under the Red Hood. Seeing Red in Green Arrow (2001) is like my favorite comic run ever. Jason's appearance in Outsiders (2003) is great. Streets Run Red in B&R was solid. Lost Days remains my favorite interpretation of the time after he came back, despite the fact that I have some criticisms.
That being said, I do think I mildly prefer him in an anti-hero role rather than Winick's sympathetic villain who can sometimes be reasoned with, and I quite like what Rosenburg has been doing with him.
It feels like Rosenburg has a really solid idea in his head of who Jason is and why/how he clashes with the other bats. I enjoyed The Man Who Stopped Laughing way more than I thought I would. Taskforce Z has definite merits. Gotham War was a complete clusterfuck and horribly organized, but I do think I see what he was going for there and was interested even though it clashed badly with what the other writers were doing.
So yeah, I guess that's my answer. Rosenburg is my fav modern Jason writer so far and Winick remains the heavyweight champion of Jason writing overall.
My least favorite on the other hand isn't any of the usual suspects (Starlin, Morrison, and Lobdell)
Starlin seemed to want to write vicious, seedy thrillers about realistic serial killers and the worst that humanity has to offer and was instead stuck writing Batman and Robin lmao. Should he have just found other employment instead, or knuckled down and written to the tone of the material at hand? Probably! However, putting Batman and Robin in a world that was patently unfit for their type of heroics was interesting to read for me, and frankly, most of what I love about Jason wouldn't exist without it.
Morrison was certainly unfavorable to Jason, but using Jason and Dick as opposing ideas of what it means to be Batman is honestly really cool, and idk I think if you can get passed the aesthetics this version of him works.
Lobdell... might actually just be bad at writing entirely? But! Lobdell has a lot of good ideas and can write something that's fun. There are several more competently put together stories that I can't say the same of.
So yeah, it's none of them, because Cavan Scott was the one who wrote the worst rendition of Jason I've ever had the misfortune to read.
Even mother fucking Battle for the Cowl did a better job with Jason! Just by giving him character motivations and a reason to be in the plot! Titans United Jason is a complete asshole to everyone around him despite having reasons not to be. Like, not even for no reason! For negative three reasons!! There are many different roles he could have taken in this comic that would have been interesting, but instead he is "thug who insults Connor Kent and is generally useless and incompetent".
Though to be fair to him, Titans United was a tie in for a TV show that has very, very different histories for all of the characters involved. It was basically a commercial and as far as I can tell this author wasn't involved in the show or any of the characters outside of this one comic. It might honestly be unfair to call him a Jason Todd writer at all.
And if we don't count little one offs like that then... yeah I don't really know who my least favorite would be *shrug*
Anyhow I feel like I've rambled more than long enough, hope this was an interesting read and thank you thank you for sending the ask :3 !

Reading This Week 2024 #29
this week I've been visiting my parents for my dad's 50th birthday. despite my goal to work on reading through the books already on my shelf, today i did go to the comic book store and the manga store and get some more things to read!
Finished:
A Power Unbound by Freya Marske I did end up finishing this the day after my last post! I had gotten briefly anxiety stuck at Chapter 15 (if you read it you will know why), but after receiving Wise Counsel from my mother who has already read it, I trusted the process and persevered through to the end of the book, and enjoyed reading it. Ultimately I think A Power Unbound suffers from having to serve as the conclusion to a three part fantasy story, which took away focus from the advertised romance between Lord Hawthorn and Alan. As I was reading I remember thinking that they were spending a lot more time doing stuff apart, rather than working together in the way the previous couples in the series were. that was a little disappointing bc I was really looking forward to this pair. Also i think i was sadism-baiting. submissive brat sadist Alanzo believers rise and join hands with me!
Masaoka Shiki: Selected Poems translated by Burton Watson finished this lovely collection of poetry. very pleasant read. I think some of the poems written from his sick bed where really special in particular, and there was a great one about Shiki getting a cane to help with his mobility as his TB got worse
"The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allen Poe I read this so I could understand what was being referenced in a horror novella later on. the first half i was a bit bored, but from the ballad on i was hooked and found it genuinely unsettling. also it was excellent to read a first-person perspective story that doesn't mildly grate at my nerves. i'm starting to identify what made me like it's usage in this work and not in many others
our bodies too, plateaued by rozecrest on ao3 Unknit by Hierodule on ao3 Signs of Life by rigormorphis on ao3 i am diving into the friends at the table ao3 tag again! not as thoroughly as I have previously, but I am enjoying what I've read so far
If You'll Have Me by Eunnie this graphic novel is just like the sweetest butch/femme romance. it made my day to read it. please go check out this shy femme x suave butch romance
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher an incoming library due date on libby forced me to read this, and oh it was just amazing. as seen above I read the original Poe story this is playing off of. the protagonist has a third gender from a made of European culture, that is to say kan gender is soldier, which I loved bc it let there be gender variance without downplaying like. historical awful gender roles. this story unsettled me and it was very great. also it seems like zombie fungus has really been in vogue in the past several years
Demon Riders by Jack Holder if you saw me reference buying a book from a self published author at a farmer's market a month back, this was that book! its the episodic adventures of a couple of monster hunters, and given that it was episodic, my enjoyment of the story of the book unfortunately varied a lot from chapter to chapter...At its best it had some really interesting ideas or well executed takes on classic ones, but at its worst it was underdeveloped and cliche, under-utilizing its ostensible setting of a post apocalyptic America (the one story in which its Clearly set in Texas really might as well come up with a fantasy name for the place. it would work just as well). I think this would be better suited to a serialized format, instead of published as a collection, that way each of the episodic stories could really breathe.
Mob Psycho 100, Vol. 12-13 by ONE, translated by Kumar Sivasubramanian plain fun! excited to be reaching the parts where Tome gets to shine as a character

Chizu x Kitsune and why it's gay
lol i don't have a lot of energy to post but wanted to make a short fandom post anyway? I'll just briefly talk about the more memorable and emotionally important moments between these two :3
Spoilers for the entire series, but if you didn't notice stuff, might be good reminds on several things! This isn't really like a full analysis and it's not a full summary either. I just like this ship and although it seems unanimous that this is seen as a sapphic ship, I also think it's a bit underappreciated? Or perhaps it's just the show itself that needs more regard? I'm not here to defend the show or ship, just to detangle my thoughts on how their scenes together look like to my mind as a storyteller but also what the possible crew intentions could have been. This became kinda long.
Tumblr media
So in the series, we as viewers see a lot of moments between Chizu and Kitsune that are about honesty. Or they just talk to each other and create meaningful connections with each other through these interactions. Even with smaller stuff, there's moments in each ep where they either look at each other, or to each other.
in ep 3, "Posessions" we see Usagi asking Kitsune had stolen things and Kitsune denying this about her. Then in a following scene, when she finds Chizu and asks her where she learned to fight if she just works at the temple, she admonishes Chizu for making up a bad lie for that. "You don't have to tell me the truth. But don't tell me a lie." This sounds like a very earnest moment. Like i don't have the brainspace to analyze it more right now but basically, "oh wow, there's something interesting there."
As an episode closing scene, we see Chizu exit the Murakami house/museum to go to a dark alleyway. There she meets the leader of the Neko Ninja crew (only mentioned in the 1st ep), Lady Fuwa. I love this scene for how creepy and scary it makes Fuwa ar first with her mask, but then sort of silly and laughable with her huge pom-pom head. I'm not sure if I'm reading it right, but it seems the intention was to make a dangerous but laughable villain/antagonist, almost like a Bond villain who looks ridiculous but could still kill you. Like it's obvious from this interaction that Fuwa only thinks about herself and her own goals and thinks in shallow goals (taking over Neo Edo via "controlling" the Ki-stone). Her ideas look silly from some distant point, but she still commands respect and fear with voice and demeanor.
There's the friendship candy moment/scene in ep 4, "Run Rabbit Run" and then Chizu's flashback of her trauma being raised in the Neko Ninja crew and losing her friend Kayo. Her friend gave her this same friendship candy to cheer her up, "Things will get better Chizu". I'll leave the Chizu PTSD analysis for another time bc I feel like I could probably do with reading up on the comic to also see what the inspiration for this all could have been (+ I'm just not up to write that much tonight). The point of the scene overall is to establish a stronger connection between the two main characters as well as show us the viewer a more fleshed-out reason for Chizu's background as a Neko Ninja. Someone who's high-ranking enough to go on a stealth mission into the temple housing the Ki-Stone which provides the entirety of Neo Edo its power. But also someone who really does not enjoy being a ninja or being dishonest. Someone who's a little unsure and incredibly lonely among her ninja kin.
The flashback is a reminder for Chizu that friendship is a luxury. I also feel we're meant to take it from here that both of them value friendships in similar but different ways. Or that friendship is something lacking for both but they see it slightly differently. Neither has had many friends before, or any at all (we find out later that Kitsune only had a "ghost friend" and presumably her puppets) but they express valuing their team members in different ways. Kitsune gives friendship candy to everyone, even Spot, while Chizu just tags along in the service of her own motives/plot while pretending she's too aloof and doesn't care enough to do anything more than fight yokai. But here when Kitsune says "aren't you gonna eat that" after Chizu leaves her startled PTSD flashback she just says, "Maybe one day" with a smile. So here we see a setup by the writers that this friendship candy is important for Chizu and that she wants to continue being a real friend of Kitsune, or at the least, have any real friends at all.
Chizu goes back to the dojo to exchange info and receive more instructions from Lady Fuwa. We have a small scene where after this, she shares a moment with a random Neko Ninja kid training in the dojo in the background. She takes her mask off, tired from the training and is immediately admonished by Lady Fuwa. This kid slightly resembles Kayo, Chizu's childhood friend. Same outfit, different cat fur pattern but similar colorscheme. A kindred spirit. (I actually have a little theory about this, but that's for later, maybe a short fanfic). We can see that unlike the other adults at the dojo, Chizu still has some compassion left despite her training.
We have a moment in "Run Rabbit Run" where it's subtly established that although we haven't seen much threat or action from the ninja, they're considered "bad actors" in the city. So much so that every other gang in the city is afraid of just Chizu on her own (without her friends knowing she's apart of this crew). To us the viewers they are a little unknown but it's implied that the entirety of the city fears them.
Then there's the big reveal scene at the end of ep 5, "Common Sensei"
Chizu's betrayal, the surprise from all her new friends, and a genuine expression of disbelief from Kitsune (the "no...")
Tumblr media
And then at the start of the next episode, "Nobody Likes a Ninja" the focus is immediately on Kitsune, on the other end of Chizu pointing a hand-crossbow at her.
Tumblr media
And you can see the hurt in Kitsune's eyes.
So here as viewers we can make the basic connection that this betrayal hurt more than anything else that night. And the entire one half a plot of the episode we spend with the two of them as Chizu tries to apologize or make up to Kitsune somehow.
The rest of the season is spent focusing on other characters and relationships and setting up season 2. A really important part of this is the rescue of Hana, one of the only kids who Chizu saw training in the Neko Ninja dojo who didn't really take to all the fighting and training to be spies and assassins. Hana essentially becomes like a little sister to both Chizu and Usagi through the handful of episodes she's in and is taken under the wing of Usagi's auntie, sent to safety at her farm away from the city.
Then in s2 we see how much time the crew spends together after the "world has been saved" from the big butterfly hand in the sky. We see Chizu and Kitsune acting like longer-time friends already as well as Kitsune raising a "little sister" now - Kiyoko. Basically the rest of the team finds confusing and weird at first but gets used to Kiyoko quickly. Chizu mainly expresses worry but goes along with this as slowly this "little sister" (to avoid too many spoilers) is treated more and more like the other smaller kids in their home. By season 2, Usagi and the other characters see Gen and Toshiko's house as a home and treat each other as basically family. Mostly they're all still close friends, but to Kitsune especially, this has now become family. While Chizu had an abusive childhood living and training under the Neko Ninja crew, Kitsune is portrayed as having been homeless and a street performer. So to her, having new friends she can not only trust her life with but also just spend nice peaceful times with, is mega-important. So in "The Fuzzy Pony" (s2, ep 3) we have the kids playing and Chizu and Kitsune talking about it, the latter commenting, "We have a nice little family going here."
In this same episode, while playing with Kiyoko, Usagi realizes that him and her share a birthday (bc of the happenings in the series' first ep) and how they could celebrate those together ("Joint birthday parties!!") Kitsune responds with how Kiyoko would like that and how she wants to give Kiyoko everything she never had, including birthdays. Gen and Usagi are surprised about this but Kitsune is completely non-chalant about it. ("Nah, I dunno when I was born. No birthday, no party, no biggie.") This sends Gen and Usagi on a big side-plot to organize a surprise birthday party for Kitsune.
After seeing Hana play with the other "kids" of the household, Chizu thinks about the rest of the Neko Ninja children and decides to save them as well, alone this time (Usagi was along the first time). Kitsune secretly comes along to this to support her (and also to see Chizu fight, to see some action in general). There's a really fun scene between them which I can't really summarize perfectly enough, you'd have to see it yourself. But the point is, Kitsune willingly came along on her own. "Hey. I'm an orphan and orphans help orphans. I'm not asking for your permission." And there's an understanding between them that they're going to do this together. and oh man it's so sweet, I wish someone posted this scene up on youtube cuz it's just so ougghghghhh it's so sweet!!!! aaa!!
Tumblr media
When before in "Run Rabbit Run", Kitsune was more careful with fighting crowds of regular citizens or gang members with an impulsive and untrained Usagi, here with Chizu she feels confident and is also willing to tag along, even if the potential enemies are trained ninja. To cut the summary shorter. the kids don't believe them and think it's a loyalty-test from Fuwa.
In this episode, as a last-ditch effort to save the ninja kids, Chizu challenges Fuwa to a death match duel, for the leadership of the crew. Although Kitsune is threatened and captured here, to make her watch the match, she frees herself and gleefully cheers Chizu on, demanding a complete smackdown for Fuwa. I thought this was cute. Kitsune is so violent about this duel as an "audience member" but even before during Truly Chizu would be like the 85 % of Kitsune's impulse control (this is an old meme, look it up). Chizu wins in the end and Kitsune is elated, like in a "great, lets go home, we have so much to tell the others" kind of way, but Chizu stops her. Now that she's won and become Lady Chizu, she has to stay with the Neko Ninja crew. And Kitsune is devastated, what do you mean you won but can't come home??
"But that.... that would break up our family- I mean, our team" and ouuuhhhhh, this was heartbreaking to watch. I really love this ep for the character moments between these two, ouhghhh /sob
They say their goodbyes and hug. The quiet "come home when you can" is so bittersweet it made me want to cry. She goes to the birthday party, with a note saying she's supposed to meet her friends there, still pent up. Not so much from the dojo fight, but from fact that she's not going to see Chizu anymore. So much so that she attacks the birthday balloons almost cuts the surprise party guests with her fans. It's shown as really sad. Like you can see from Toshiko, Usagi and the staff member's faces that they weren't expecting this kind of reaction from this birthday girl.
Tumblr media
But guess what? Chizu showed up at the party as "Ohayou Pony" as a surprise party gift for Kitsune's new birthday party! this was another sillier but also nice moment because you get to see the characters really happy despite the circumstances.
So after this episode, I definitely felt, "there's no way these two aren't at least girlfriends" and also, it genuinely felt like the status quo of the show was going to legitimately change. in the following episodes we actually do see Chizu a bit less, unless it's a life-threatening situation or we see her more with the Neko Ninja.
There are some smaller moments inbetween eps which you can see yourself if you watch the series cuz this psot is long enough already ^^; For example, in ep 15, Kitsune goes to tell Chizu of the whole invaders situations to get the ninja crew on their side and I find the way they look at each other or how Chizu huffs a laugh at Kitsune trying to lighten the mood really sweet if tiny moments altogether.
in ep 17 "Willow Branch" they get to use their new kaikishi weapons more and fight against ghosts. Chizu mis-calculates and accidentally almost takes a shot at Kitsune. For "levity" it only hits her eyelash, but Chizu is worried and embarrased all the same.
then in s2, ep 8 "The Chizu Stands Alone", where the ninja crew basically turns on Chizu, there's another interesting moment where there is one last ninja ("Fumiko") who is left with Chizu against all the turncoats, but then leaves (another thing to leave to my theory posts), only to return with an ally in turn. Kitsune with the newly-built mech that Tetsujin built. How did this ninja know to get Kitsune specifically? Yeah, okay, she is the only one who can pilot it, but still! This was nice too because we're shown how the two of them are walking home via the mech and talking about what happened. How Chizu felt like maybe she was making a difference but now feels like she didn't change anything about the ninja crew at all, but Kitsune reminds her that the kids are safe and that's actually a big thing. It's still about the orphans with these two and the ninja crew storyline.
There's also a nice moment in the finale ("Invasion!") where Chizu goes to help Kitsune out of her mech after it's damaged in the big fight. The rest of the scenes with them together are mostly focused on their little family team of 5 afterwards.
So yeah, just a little view at some of the moments I remember in the series that cemented the relationship as a pairing for me! You can comment and reblog with tags or comments if you noticed anything else as well :] A lot of these moments are really sold by some of the solid writing and the excellent acting by Shelby Rabara and Mallory Low as Kitsune and Chizu respectively.
Also, this is just something I saw on twitter, but one of the main writers, Jeffrey Reddick (who also wrote the series finale) also quote-retweetd some of the promo tweets about Usagi Chronicles. He has mainly been a horror writer so far, but the important thing for me that I noticed on his profile, is that Reddick is openly gay. Although there are probably always going to be queer members in cartoon crews, we don't ever actually know that for sure usually and speculating on stranger's identities is pointless beacause well, it's just a fun cartoon, I can sense queer vibes from it whether the crew themselves are queer or not. But I also feel like some of them being seen as openly queer makes it easier to see that some parts of a show could be intentionally written with queerness in mind.
So I do believe the slightly 90s style* queer-coding was no accident :D
*(or whatever we wanna call it - it feels a little older - "show don't tell")
Overall, this ship just feels really sapphic in an old pre-Steven Universe kind of way... like I would have totally un-knowingly shipped this as a kid before really knowing anything about myself or others or even words to use about it. Basically, they are a pair. do not separate. And I think it's sweet that it exists at all, bc it really is subtle. I know in online fandoms it can feel like we don't need this kind of storytelling since we have more openly queer cartoons too, but I think for the sake of even just variety alone, it's good to have this kind of lightly queercoded story-telling wrapped inside an action cartoon too next to everything else in the mix of both cartoon and general other media we have today. I also find that this way it is easier for future queer kids to realize this about their old favourite cartoon Usagi Chronicles that it was queer. .... In a kind of roundabout way? I'm thinking about situations where more openly queer cartoons like Steven Universe or Owl House would be banned in more conservative households. I knew a little cousin for example whose parents were very particular about the cartoons they let their kids watch and so more "high-energy" cartoons like cartoon network stuff was banned entirely. So I don't know if this would actually happen in real life, but this is just one scenario i'm thinking of.
Of course you can still interpret it as *only* friends too I suppose but you can't deny that they're important to each other in more ways. Like if this was a straight ship, we would be getting ship manifestos left and right. Or maybe fanfic. They'd be called the mom and dad of the family, etc. and although that's a simple way to put it, that also shows feels like proof of intention. The soundtrack also becomes beautiful and on-point whenever there are important scenes with them together, which just adds to the "it's queer" picture.
I'm sure I'll find a better way to write about this but right now I just wanted to list everything I remembered off the top of my head. They have so many of these sweet and everyday moments as well as heavier or more serious and plot-driven moments, it's so nice to see. Usagi Chronicles in general is a very character driven show and these two are the strongest characters in the cast. I only wish we had gotten more moments or flashbacks even with Kitsune, but I suppose she is the kind of character who wouldn't even need flashbacks. But that means she just stays mysterious until we find out more info about her (again, I know she's based on the ideas we have from the character Kitsune in the Usagi Yojimbo comic, but still. At least to me, she feels like a flesjed-out character in the cartoon show, so it would have been cool to see more of her and some other characters like Gen too. On the other side, looking at these episode summaries here, it does feel like the cast balances each other out nicely.
Anyway, leave me a comment if u liked this! Maybe I will do other analysis abt other parts of the series later when I feel like it :) I've been a bit sick the past two weeks so I haven't been in the mood to draw but I will probably still have a bit of energy to write some simpler things so who knows, might write on other Usagi Chronicles topics!

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you so much @myheartalivewrites!! i feel so guilty getting these tags when I haven't posted on ao3 in a hot minute haha
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently, 16. but i orphaned a lot back in the day. I think i've probably written closer to 25-30 total in my life.
2. Whatā€™s your total AO3 word count?
300,037!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Red, White & Royal Blue mostly but i've been thinking baout branching out soon. I've also written Snowbaz, Cemetery Boys, and Jonjay
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Family Lines
How To Be Friends With The FSOTUS
With All The Air In My Lungs
Asking For Permission
DĆ©collage
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to but i'm not the best honestly, working on getting better and replying to more! I always feel guilty when I can't think of a response haha
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Definitely I'm Taking A Ride With My Best Friend. It's bittersweet to say the least. When you've gone through hell and back with your person, and he's hurt you, but he's also the best part of your life... how do you move forward? how do you re-learn to coexist when you're no longer running for your life? I somehow thought I could answer those questions in one epilogue chapter....
7. Whatā€™s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my endings are very very happy, but probably Family Lines. Adoption, and family, and recovery, and ahhhh adorable family being adorable things!!
2nd place might be Poison in His Blood bc i wrote this angsty ass chonic illlness werewolf au fic and the fluffy (lol) ending took all of us by suprise I think
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really, but i've had a few like "i really wanted it to end like ____ :( " or "I think there's more you could have dug into with ____ :(" which i know aren't hate, but disppointing readers feels similar.
And once, a trump supporter got mad at me in my Superman and Lois fic's comments. Which is still fucking hilarious to this day bc for some reason they thought a literal alien wouldn't support immigration reform... and this was a comic book fan fic about superman's son being bi as all hell... fascinating...
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yes and no. Have I written smut? yes. like, twice total. Do I enjoy writing it? no. I read a ton of it but, it's not my writing niche.
10. Do you write crossovers? Whatā€™s the craziest one youā€™ve written?
Not yet!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
i don't think so?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
not yet! very open to it tho!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No and I don't think I would. I'm too much of a perfectionist
14. Whatā€™s your all time favorite ship?
alex and henry šŸ„ŗ the best boys of all best boys
15. Whatā€™s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
the spiderman one. I had an idea for Henry being Pretty Darn Sure that Alex is spiderman and putting himslf into situations where he'd run into him but... if across the spiderverse didn't reignite my love for spiderman enough to write it then idk what will
16. What are your writing strengths?
probably dialogue, including internal dialogue, I think. It comes much easier to me than ambiance/setting descripitons.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
smut for one. definitely need to work on pacing too.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I avoid it heavily. I took 4 years of french in high school but it's been years since then and my knowledge on it is preschool at best. another thing to work on tho!!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I can't even remember anymore and I never want to know. trist me, you want me to repress that shit even more than I do.
20. Favorite fic youā€™ve written?
jesus how could any writer pick??? Maybe I'm Taking A Ride With My Best Friend. It's my longest fic, and was definitly my biggest challenge. And, although there's things I'd change about it if I could, i'm still very proud of what I made! my traumatic little baby...
oh my no idea who to tag here so i'm going for the mutuals again, so sorry if you've already been tagged and no pressure!! @penna-nomen @cosmicalart @sherryvalli @jesuisici33 @14carrotghoul @cha-melodius and open tag to anyone who hasn't shared yet!!

Waspā€™s Comics Review (more like rambling, none of this is filtered thought)
Hereā€™s some comics Iā€™ve been reading in order to give me more motivation to keep writing the TAXONOMY!verse. Most of these are here in order to inform my personal views of characterization and how Iā€™d write certain people based on their comics pre-2009/Bruce-Death.
Comics I have just recently finished/coming close to finishing:
Titans (1999)
Batgirl (2000)
JSA (2007)
Daredevil (2014)
Infinite Crisis
Battle for the Cowl
Blackest Night
Gotham Central
Nightwing (1999) #51-53
Robin (1993) #183
Titans (1999)
Okay, wow. I wasnā€™t expecting how good it would be. I started reading it mostly for Damage-Grant Emerson since I heard he had a nice relationship with Roy, and thereā€™s a couple issues where Bette and Gar show up. Despite a few moments where the comic shows itā€™s age, Iā€™m pleasantly surprised at its overall quality and character writing. Before this, I had only a little bit of prior knowledge of the Titans, so I really got to know them from this. My only gripes with it is that I donā€™t get to see Grant again (in a speaking/active role) after Roy drops him off at the reservation, and I think that storyline where Argent turns out to be dating a kid is weird. This comic has also given me more appreciation for Roy and Lian. I can understand Arrowfans now, Lian shouldnā€™t have been killed. Wtf, man. I got attached to her. I also think Roy and Cheshireā€™s relationship was interesting. Garth is not a huge character in this run, but I appreciate the kind of characters that are little more drama-free. (Not totally) (again, knowing Dolphin/Cerdian from this run, wtf man. Why do so many kids die in the 90s/early 2000s?!?) In conclusion, Roy Harper and Garth are now way higher up on my list of favorite DC characters. I also enjoyed Donna Troy, even though I had no prior context to all of the Dark Angel/mind wipe stuff.
Batgirl (2000)
This was a re-read, since I last read it around 2021. I forgot a pretty good portion of the early issues, so reading it again gave me renewed appreciation for the writers and Cassā€™s character. It reminded me just how great her character is, and definitely refreshes my ideas about her. I will be taking this in greater consideration when I get into her role in Chiroptera. Iā€™m still not a Cass expert though, so if anyone else has some good ideas about how she would gain the Batman mantle and fight ideologically with Jason over it - thoughts are needed!!
JSA (2007)
Another re-read. Mostly here bc I needed to refresh Grant post-Zoom attack and Tom Bronson in my mind. Now that Iā€™ve read Titans 1999, I can see how some people might take his characterization in JSA as different and a little ooc. My POV is, Grant in JSA is older so heā€™s gonna be different no matter what - it doesnā€™t bother me as much. When he shows up in the TAXONOMY!verse though, I am definitely including his familial relationship with Roy & Lian, and maybe hinting towards his brief friendship with Toni. I do think that Roy shouldā€™ve made at least one appearance in JSA for Grant.
Daredevil (2014)
My only non-DC read this month. I mostly read this bc I needed to step away from DC content, but also I like seeing the differences in the writing of vigilantes between Marvel/DC. I want to include just a bit of the grounded chaos from this Daredevil run into the au. Also, the utter insane angst that Matt goes through. This man is constantly struggling.
Infinite Crisis/Battle for the Cowl/Blackest Night
Theyā€™reā€¦events. Not much else to say. Somehow I need to figure out how to work out the whole ā€œBette got teleported onto another Earthā€ in the au. Also, I think I will be keeping Grantā€™s death. Not because I like it, but because I need the emphasis of loss and grief (for Tom) for the themes of Chiroptera to work. Iā€™m going to resurrect him eventually. No way heā€™s staying dead.
Gotham Central
Unrelated to the au. I just wanted to reread some Renee Montoya stuff.
Nightwing #51-53; Robin #183
Exclusively read bc it takes place right before Battle for the Cowl. This will inform a bit of my characterization for Dick and Tim. Will give a disclaimer though, I am way more familiar with Dickā€™s character now than I am Timā€™s. Iā€™ve read Nightwing 1996 more than once and Iā€™ve gained further insight from Titans 1999- so hopefully I have a better idea of him. Iā€™ve attempted to read Young Justice (1998) but Iā€™ve never finished it yet. Iā€™ve only read the Robin issues that crossover with No Manā€™s Land and War Games before this. I have my work cut out for me with Timā€™s content *sigh*

about me
ā”€ā”€ā”€ ļ½„ ļ½”ļ¾Ÿā˜†: *.ā˜½ .* :ā˜†ļ¾Ÿ. ā”€ā”€ā”€
you can call me ambro, i am currently 22 years old. the pronouns that i go by are she/her and i am filipino-american. my zodiac is gemini and my mbti personality type is infp-t. i am currently identifying as aromantic and it's become a label that i've been comfortable with recently (which is kinda ironic since i enjoy so many things that involve romance lol).
programs i use for writing are: tumblr and libreoffice programs i use for art are: procreate, paint tool sai 2, and clip studio paint - you're welcome to ask what brushes i use for any of these programs, i use a lot bc i like the various textures and will never stick to just relying on one completely lol - for procreate, i've been using an ipad air 4th gen with a 2nd gen apple pencil for ~3 years or so; i use a huion hs611 for csp and sai2
surrounding my history with writing: i started writing in middle school! yk those really bad 'one-shots' with multiple fandoms? i did that kind of writing, each chapter was like 500 words max lmao eventually, i couldn't really keep up with it (i think that's how i burned out in the first place). i got into creating art and OCs after wattpad but stopped writing for nearly 4-5 years until the pandemic started. a bunch of my past english teachers supported my pursuit of writing little stories, but now i write for fun and to expand more on my writing skills.
surrounding my history with fanfics: i've always enjoyed "x reader" fics, idk it's been a comfort thing for me for years (character x character is fine too but sometimes the content written for the ships can tend to get a little too boring for me, this doesn't mean i no longer enjoy them however!). i like when the readers are actually smart and easy to put yourself into, so i try to implement that into my reader fics. with the yandere trope, it's one of my comfort tropes for me of recent, mostly because i like the idea of someone being so dedicated and infatuated with you specifically. however, i do not condone or attempt practicing any of the actions similar and/or relating to it (like nonconsensual practices, stalking, kidnapping, extreme peer pressure, murder, etc etc). this is not a reflection of the person i am or what i believe in. it's honestly an interesting topic to write about in a psychological standpoint, and the community has been pretty kind + welcoming so far.
surrounding my history with art: i always liked drawing even as a kid, but i never seriously started until late 8th grade to early hs freshman. i started with little doodles of cat heads on printer paper because i'm (still) in the warrior cat fandom, and then tried my hand at drawing people the more i drew. i was really horrible, like really bad lol but during my hs years, i drew almost nearly every single day i was in class, and my art style had fluctuated and developed throughout those years. in my sophomore year, i joined my first art class, painting 1. in both my junior and senior year, i joined ap studio art. in my senior year, i won 1st place in an art competition and when i say that i was so happy to prove to my parents that i was good at art, i was very happy. idk if this counts too but my ap studio art score was a 4, the topic was a man's feelings in a romantic relationship turning toxic, the breakup, and the recovery (REALLY CORNY, i know i should've done something more personal to myself, but i think i didn't want my art teacher to be concerned about my mental health LMFAO). although i am not pursing art as a main career, i still heavily enjoy creating ocs/comics and small pieces whenever i can.
that's pretty much it, i might add more if i become more comfortable to do so (ā—'ā—”'ā—)

"Weirdly Specific Artist Ask Game" but i got tagged in it so i am gonna answer all of them 'cause theyre fun
questions by @/i-like-eyes
thanks for the tag @king-chook!! ^^
1. Art programs you have but don't use
i thiiink i have a license for clip studio paint that came with my old wacom tablet but i never rly used it. also used to have krita installed for the longest time but just always felt off to me idk why. don't currently have it installed anymore tho
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
to their right is a bit easier i think. not smth i consciously notice, mostly i'm just thinking abt when im doodling on the margins of stuff they usually are looking to the left of the page
3. What ideas come from when you were little
uhhh idk tbh, i dont think much of my art draws from that
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
cityscapes !!! i love cities they r so pretty and cool looking but goddamn theyre so hard to draw
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
80-20? i post everything that i finish. basically the only stuff that doesnt get posted is sketches i give up on
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
hmmmm not that i can think of rn...
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
watercolour !! i've tried it a few times and Struggled but i love seeing ppl's work in it
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
so many animatics ..................... also many comic ideas ..................... i get so many ideas that i just never start on or start and only do a little before losing the hyperfocus/fixation and just Cannot continue them. it sucks
9. What are your file name conventions
usually the character name, maybe a bit of description of what theyre doing... idk not much of a convention to it
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
hmm i like jackets :)
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
yes, usually music. sometimes random youtube videos like stream highlights or video essays.
12. Easiest part of body to draw
uhhh hair? maybe idk. hard question bc it varied a lot depending on what kinda style and just. sometimes smth is hard in a particular drawing then easy later idk
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
i cant think of anything i will edit it in if i think of anyone
14. Any favorite motifs
in my drawings i dont feel like i use any much. mostly i pull motifs from whatever im doing fanart of lol. in music, i like religious motifs (but not like. ones abt christ or bible stories, rather heaven, hell, god/divinity, angels)
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
at home pretty much exclusively. in bed lol
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
idk i feel like the stuff im better at is the stuff i like bc i practice it more for fun lol
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
not usually
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
surprisingly little. mostly bc i do more digital art lol
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
weapons and nature. especially ice for nature
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
i cant think of anything ill add it if i do
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
i love rougher styles, like ones with a lot of visible brushstrokes and bold lines and shit. so cool. idk how to make it look good lol i dont have the confidence in my lines for it
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
none... probably i should change that
23. Do you use different layer modes
yeah, often i use a multiple layer for shading then a variety to colour adjust at the end
24. Do your references include stock images
sometimes
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
cant think of any
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
there was this poem i wrote about capitalism and how shit it is and someone thought it was abt interpersonal relationships/smth along the lines of a breakup. i rly didnt mind it tho i thought it was cool bc the emotion was not far off, the sense of betrayal and abandonment. just a very very different subject
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
no lol
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
i ran a zine (digital only) for the dimension 20 zine jam! and also made art+writing for others in that :D also was part of a polygon yt fanzine a while back
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
spider-man (not the MCU, mostly tasm and a few of the comics)
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
IS IT BAD TO SAY A PIECE THAT GOT QUITE A BIT OF POSITIVE ATTENTION ?? maybe
i rly like the cj comic i did i am genuinely so goddamn happy with the result so . even tho it did very well by the standards for the fandom its for and my current follower base it is underrated
alternatively this one https://www.tumblr.com/pathos-p/704380503765221377/tridential-sovereignty?source=share bc it didnt get all that much attention on any social media site but i think its cool !!
(mostly only using recent ones bc i dont wanna dig back further esp onto my old twt acct, too much work lol)

u want to answer the first half???? šŸ„¹šŸ„¹
sure! anything for you, boo <33333 sorry it took me this long :ā€™(
oh Lordy, ok
Share a song that makes you think of [fic title]
ok so even tho you didnā€™t place a specific title imma pick Frayed Strings and A Meeting at the Beach for the song People You Know by Selena Gomez bc i enjoy me some bitter and Six Eared ā€œhas not moved onā€ Macaque šŸ¤
2. Do you read/reread your own fics?
yeah! but itā€™s mostly after someone makes a comment on something they liked bc i, too, want to find that scene or line and enjoy it šŸ„°
3. Whatā€™s your favorite fic that youā€™ve written?
itā€™s honestly a tie between The Shrine of Emrys and A Meeting at the Beach which is funny bc they are so different from each other lmao
4. How many WIPs do you have right now?
oh, uh, *checks folder* give me a sec
*coughs* 43 šŸ‘‰šŸ‘ˆ
5. Whatā€™s a fic idea youā€™ve had that you will never write?
can find answer here itā€™s literally just all of my stranger things ufos lmao
6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?
oh yeah, all the time. too many really to list them all šŸ˜“ but thereā€™s Bones by @theoceanismyinkwell and you shake my nerves and you rattle my brain by @yikeshereiam just to name a couple (very good btw highly recommend)
7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now?
iā€™d rather not say
8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
rn itā€™s my swk & reaper series, frayed, and my dr geyer fic. all of which are long term fics lmao
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what youā€™ve written!
itā€™s like every other day? i try to write often to keep me from writerā€™s block and itā€™s nice switching from wip to wip when i feel overwhelmed by the other
and i did write today! so have a snippet:
Frank Oā€™Brien, in the words of his mother in-law, was a man you could never really figure out without walking on eggshells. In the words of his sister, he was a man that took after their uncle. In the words of Jenna, he was a cautious soul.
10. Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
tbh the frayed AU wasnā€™t one i thought many people might have liked since i write macaron being very bitchy and salty about a lot of things and i know heā€™s a beloved character in the lmk fandom. like, iā€™m not writing him that way bc i hate him (far from it). I write like that bc thatā€™s what i imagine what his internal dialogue might be like.
11. Do you have specific playlists for writing fics?
not really, i just find one that fits the mood of the scene or my own mood
12. Do you have a playlist for your current WIP(s)? Share it!
lol no šŸ˜™ Iā€™m not really one to create wip or character playlists but itā€™s a lot of fun listening to others!
13. How much planning do you do before writing?
it honestly depends. no planning was done when making the dr geyer fic or any of the merlin fics. the planning came after bc my ambitions for them were more than i expected
14. If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick?
oh gee, idk honestly. it would be cool to see a comic of the Shrine of Emrys just because the exaggerated expressions would be hilarious
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?
long answer can be found here. short answer: it is a chaotic process that ends in prayer
but yeah there you go! iā€™m so sorry this was late babe šŸ’– had this saved in my drafts so I could answer it all and then it got buried in there šŸ˜– BUT! hope you enjoyed my answers šŸ’•šŸ’•šŸ’•šŸ’•

tbh it depends a bit on what kind of thing you want from batman i think? bc batman media varies wildly in characterization and themes so all the batman related media will vary wildly in genre, also if you mean the batman fandom as in bruce wayne-centric, batman & Gotham vigilantes and/or batfam centric, batman rogues-centric, or batman-working-with-other superheros centric that can change where you might want to start as well. hopefully thats not overwhelming, i just think seeing what youre most interested in can help narrow down which media is best to start with. iā€™ll recommend the stuff ive seen/read tho to give ideas and because my taste is superior (lie)
i unfortunately haven't read many comics because it turns out i actually don't enjoy the way DC does comics most of the time, so the only one i can recommend since i HAVE actually read it is the Red Robin run, which is Tim Drake centric. again i dont prefer DC comics so i have kind of mid feelings about it, but if you want to interact with the batfam fandom i think its where a lot of the fandom draws from for Tim Drake and his relationship to the other bats.
(honestly i consume DC comics mostly through the form of other people posting specific good comic panels to the internet or posts reviewing comics. sometimes also just literally reading character or comic wiki pages. the panda redd on tiktok & youtube does funny skits based on real events/characters from the comics and he actually likes the comics so its way more fun to watch his content where hes actually enthusiastic about it for me)
i also did see someone already recommended the wayne family adventures webcomic which i have read and it is a very fun, if fairly simplistic comic. its vibe is very slice of life and good batfam feels which is a criminally neglected part of batman content so its understandably popular
for movies the robert pattinson batman was genuinely really really good, i think its very good batman characterization and the riddler in the movie is a cool, more deadly spin on him than other iterations. the christian bale movies are also not bad, but they are definitely action movie first batman characterization second. the villains in those movies are also pretty cool but i do think ras al ghulā€™s characterization sucks as does batmanā€™s. bane, joker, two face and scarecrow are pretty interesting though.
as for other media i REALLY like the batman unburied podcast, which has a really good morally-gray riddler and also has some focus on barbara gordon in addition to a really well characterized batman. posion ivy also appears in it and i really like her backstory in this, and hugo strange gets a fun little moment too. also the casting list for this kind of makes me go insane, they have winston duke (who plated mā€™baku in black panther) voicing batman and emmy raver-lampman (who played allison in umbrella academy) as poison ivy and just. chefs kiss jā€™adore imagining their actors in these roles. anyway highly recommend this one possibly-probably my fav batman media
also ive been watching the OG teen titans and it is fun and good for getting a feel for dick graysonā€™s robin outside of batmans direct influence, and since it isnt centered around him specifically you also get some of the other titans general story too. the under the red hood animated movie is good and gets you a major part of jason toddā€™s story as its about his turning point into the red hood.
the TV show gotham is VERY much trashy drama TV but if youre into that and want batman-related content it can be fun. i never watched past the second season since it wasnt out when i was into it, but i kind of still love the penguin from that show he was really great. it also features young bruce and catwoman and joker-but-they-didnt-have-the-rights-to-him-so-hes-technically-not-but-also-a-lot-of-people-still-really-like-him-as-an-iteration-of-the-joker. also, young jim gordan failing miserably at fighting corruption just like in general
as for media about batman rogues ive seen joaquin pheonixā€™s joker, its a good movie and well acted but i think it isnt great for understanding kind of any other joker iteration since it diverts a lot from who he is in like any other batman media. not to discourage watching it if you want to, just it isnt really close to the usual interpretations of joker. the killing joke animated movie also exists and from what i know is one of the more well known joker backstories and some of the info in it can be significant when connected to other characters (like, jason choosing the name red hood because it was technically the first moniker the joker went by? idk just interesting stuff).
harley quinn birds of prey is also a good movie and definitely follows the vibes of where harley quinn characterization has been for a while and also introduces you to a few other gotham vigilantes in the meantime. the harley quinn cartoon is good and pretty funny but also its definitely of the ā€œadult cartoons that use edginess as comedyā€ so if youre not into other adult cartoons its probably not gonna be as fun. the suicide squad (the SECOND not the first i havent seen the first) is kind of the technical predecessor to birds of prey though not necessary to watch, if you like kind of gory action movies it is also fun but not necessarily harley quinn centric.
also bc its DC some of these are really dark or have just kind of general tw/cw id give about them so like if you have a particular sensitivity to something or just want to know generally what to expect feel free to send an ask or something i can tell you what i at least noticed or have been told about these
,,, sorry this is long but i started typing to just leave a comment under the post and by the time it got too long for a comment it was too late to turn back
I'm probably gonna regret this but how do I get into the batman fandom??? like what comics/movies are good to start with???
