Irene: Okay, all right, let's hear about the kiss. Was it like, was it like a soft brush against your lips? Or was it like a, you know, an "I gotta have you now" kind of thing?
Sherlock: Well, at first it was really intense, you know. And then, oh, god, and then we just sort of sunk into it.
Irene: Okay, so, okay, was he holding you? Or was his hand like on your back?
Sherlock: No, actually first they started on my waist. And then, they slid up, and then, they were in my hair.
Irene & Janine: Ohhhh.
[Meanwhile]
John: And, uh, and then I kissed him.
Lestrade: Tongue?
John: Yeah.
Lestrade: Cool.

Gay Easter Eggs in BBC Sherlock
(I trust the above requires no explanation.)
Perhaps someone has done this before, but I wanted to put together a compilation of gay easter eggs in the show that I’ve seen other people point out and/or have thoughts on myself. So here it is!
When I say “easter eggs,” I’m thinking of small clues that the show creators included in the set designs, music choices, and other details of the show to reference that Sherlock and John are in love. I’m thinking of things you could miss at first, especially little clues that often require a bit of extra information or require observations across episodes to understand.
Of course, there’s also lots of subtext woven into the show, moments where interpreting the dialogue or visuals in a certain way tells us something about Sherlock, John, and/or the state of their feelings for one another. I’m not sure if I can clearly define “subtext” versus “easter eggs” and explain what distinguishes them, but at least to me, several of the things I’ve listed here seem a bit different from what people often refer to as subtext. Maybe subtext is about uncovering the layers to a piece of dialogue or an action that takes place in plain sight and seeing how that impacts our interpretation of the story, but easter eggs are about spotting smaller, hidden details. I’m not trained in literary or film studies, though, and I’m not trying to be doctrinaire about this at all! This list is just for fun, anyway. (The above image might not actually count as an easter egg, but I couldn’t resist including it here. Indulge me.)
The more I read about this show and the harder I look, the more I think that hardly anything is there on accident. All these easter eggs must have been included on purpose. The creators knew they were telling a love story all along.
I’ve linked to the posts where I initially saw people point these out or to other good sources, and for some of these I’ve added my own commentary/observations/interpretations. I’m sure there are many other easter eggs that I’ve missed! What have you spotted?
John’s PIN in TBB – When John tries to pay for his groceries at the beginning of the episode, we see that his PIN is 743. In ASIB, Irene’s code to unlock her phone is SHER, which would be 7437 on a phone keypad. So, John’s PIN is a clue that he is or will be in love with Sherlock. Source: @loudest-subtext-in-tv, here.
Shaftesbury Avenue, 20m from Piccadilly Circus in TBB – While investigating in Chinatown, Sherlock and John bump into each other at what used to be a cruising spot for gay men in London. Source: @the-signs-of-two, here.
Archer the American in ASIB – In the scene where the American CIA agents try to get Sherlock to open Irene’s safe, the head CIA agent pressures Sherlock by threatening to have one of his men shoot John. The agent says: “Mr. Archer, on the count of three, shoot Dr. Watson.” Ordering someone named “Archer” to shoot John could be a reference to Arthur Conan Doyle’s poem “The Blind Archer,” which is about Cupid and describes Cupid shooting two men who sound an awful lot like Sherlock and John. Source: couldntpossiblycomment, here.
“¿Dónde Estás, Yolanda?” in TEH – The song that plays during the scene with John and Sherlock’s disastrous reunion at the Landmark restaurant is a cover of the song “¿Dónde Estás, Yolanda?” performed by the band Pink Martini. The Spanish lyrics to this song are about searching for a long-lost lover, which is fitting for the scene where John sees Sherlock again for the first time since his fall. Notably, the creators didn’t use the first of the two versions of this song that Pink Martini has released. The band’s first version appears on their 1997 studio album Sympathique and features a man singing about a woman. Instead of using that version, the creators used the version from Pink Martini’s 2011 compilation album A Retrospective, in which China Forbes performs most of the vocals. So, the creators deliberately chose a remade version of the song in which a woman sings about a woman. They chose a gay song about searching for a long-lost lover for Sherlock and John’s reunion. abrae (@tea-and-liminality on tumblr) has a meta with more to say about the use of this song here.
John’s “oscillation on the pavement” in TEH – In TSOT, John observes a potential client standing outside 221B and trying to make up her mind as to whether to come in. Sherlock tells John “I’ve seen those symptoms before. Oscillation on the pavement always means there’s a love affair.” In the previous episode, John came to visit Sherlock at 221B but hesitated on the pavement outside, staring at the door and trying to decide whether to go in. Sherlock’s comment, “I’ve seen those symptoms before,” is a hint that we, the audience, have also seen those symptoms before—with John in the previous episode. Source: @bidoctor, here. (I saw someone else point out that last part about Sherlock’s hint to the audience, but I can’t find that post, sorry!)
Lilac dresses in TSOT – While planning John and Mary’s wedding, Sherlock chooses lilac-colored dresses for the bridesmaids. When John tells Sherlock that he likes the bridesmaids in purple, Sherlock pointedly corrects him by stating that the dresses are lilac. Apparently, “In Victorian times, giving a lilac meant that the giver is trying to remind the receiver of a first love.” So by dressing the bridesmaids in lilac, Sherlock is trying to remind John of his first love: himself, Sherlock. My heart breaks. Source: @asherlockstudy, here.
Putting the horns on Mary and Janine in TSOT and HLV – In TSOT, there’s a shot where Mary gives Sherlock and John a thumbs up before they head out on a case. The way Mary is standing, the horns on Sherlock’s cow skull thing on the wall behind her are placed right over her head. (I always thought this shot looked pretty weird, but now I see that it must have been intentional!) In the HLV scene with Janine at 221B, there’s a moment when Janine steps in front of John in the frame to kiss Sherlock, and her movement positions the horns right over her head. “Putting the horns” on someone means cheating on them. So in both cases, placing the horns right above Mary’s and Janine’s heads indicates to the audience that Sherlock and John are the real relationship in this show. Source: this post from multiple users on the @sherlockmeta blog.
The architecture of Sherlock’s mind palace in HLV – In the mind palace scene after Mary shoots Sherlock, the architecture of Sherlock’s mind palace is based on locations from ASIP. Sherlock literally built his mind palace out of places from his first case with John, illustrating that his relationship with John is what grounds him and that it means everything to him. abrae has some very helpful screencaps of this here (and I would recommend that whole meta, btw!)
The glasshouse scene in TAB – In TAB, the Victorian John tries to ask Sherlock about his sexuality and sexual history while they’re sitting in a glasshouse. In Victorian Britain, “glasshouse” was another term for a military prison. So John, a military veteran, asks Sherlock about his sexuality in a setting that represents where he would have been sent if he had acted upon his homosexual desires at a time when homosexuality was criminalized. Source: @haffieliesel, here.

Here's a new fic:
Title: So Soon?
Fandom: BBC Sherlock.
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson.
Words: 3,336.
Rating: Explicit.
Warning: None.
Summary:
Only John knows what Sherlock is really like. Or, that's what he likes to think, at least.
(A proper exploration of that one specific scene in His Last Vow.)
You can click on this too:
Basically my extremely self-indulgent take on this scene:
(It just sort of happened.)
Check it out! Thanks. :)

don't you forget about me, sherlock part1
pairing: sherlock holmes x fem!reader
summary: When Janine forces Sherlock to choose between being in a relationship with her and living with you, he has to make a tough decision. How will your feelings for each other be affected by it?
warnings: angst, canon? I don’t know her
wordcount: 2141 words
a/n: Soo, I actually should be working on a request, but I’m kinda stuck with the story, so I decided to write something else in the meantime. I also know that this is lowkey a bit shitty, but I had a fun time writing it, so et voila. This is not a request or anything, but something that recently came to my mind. This will have two parts! Yes, I am a sucker for hurt/comfort and I hope you are too! Enjoy <3
“Either she moves out or I’ll leave,” Sherlocks eyebrows raised at his girlfriend Janine’s words “I think it’s weird that you still live with a female roommate if you have me. Also, I think she’s kinda in love with you, so that makes it even weirder. Have you ever noticed the way she looks at you? It makes me sick!”
Sherlock had indeed not noticed the looks you were apparently giving him. If you did, he was sure he would have noticed. He has had feelings for you ever since you got to know each other better, which was shortly after you moved into the spare bedroom of his flat. Mrs Hudson had basically begged him to give you a chance, as you have known each other for quite some time, but he couldn’t recall where you knew each other from.
He made a mental note to ask you soon, so he could hear you scold him for forgetting, before still enthusiastically telling him the story again.
But there was a way more important matter at hand. What was it again? Oh, yeah, Janine wanted him to throw you out. Of course she worded it a bit differently, but that was quintessentially what she was asking of him. Janine or you?
Now, if this was life or death situation, the answer would be easy. Without thinking he would chose you. He was only in a relationship with Janine, because she was the assistant of Augustus Magnussen, whom he wanted to get to for a while now. At Johns wedding Janine got introduced to him and Sherlock took the opportunity to take get closer to Magnussen. And his plan was definitely moving forward. Slower than he would have liked, but still.
Now though, things were taking on another dimension. He was supposed to throw out his best friend, his partner in crime and his secret love. You.
Sherlock realised that he had been quiet for way too long, thinking about you. “You want me to do what? To just throw her out because of your growing insecurity about our romantic relationship? Don’t you think that is a bit… silly?” his baritone voice was collected, though his feeling were anything but.
“No, I don’t think it’s silly and I’m not insecure about our relationship, Sherly. I just think that she may not be the best influence on us. She’s always there, I can never have you just for me.”
Sherlock was sitting in his chair and until now Janine had been seated opposite from him in your chair. But during her talking she got up and planted herself on Sherlocks lap, his hand wandering from below his chin to her thigh.
He was now pressing it reassuringly as he answered. “You know you’re the only one I want, darling.” Lie “Even though I don’t see her as a threat to you, I will talk to her about it. But you know, she’s my best friend and I deeply care for her. If she agrees to move out, she can stay until she has found a new flat. Deal?” The detectives voice left no room for discussion, no matter how soft it was.
Janine hummed before placing a kiss to his lips. Before she could deepen it though, she could hear you coming down the stairs from your room. She pulled away and got up, before taking her things to leave. “Don’t let it wait too long, Sherly. I’ll leave you to it now. Bye Bye!” She threw him one last kiss before leaving the room.
Not a second after that, you entered the room. He knew he had to talk about it, but breaking your heart by making you leave was definitely not what he wanted. Sherlock thought for a second it he should just tell you the truth. Tell you that he’s just using her and definitely not in love with you. Tell you that you’re the only one he wants and that you can stay here in this flat as long as you want and if he was bothering you in any way it would be him that was leaving – no discussion. Tell her that every time you enter the room, you take his breath away in a way Janine could never even attempt to.
But he knew, that that would not work. The less people knew about his secret, the better and at this point only he knew of his plan. He was also convinced that if you move out, he will convince you to come back to him once he ended things with Janine and explained everything to you. You would understand, he was sure of it. Easier said than done.
“Hey Sherlock, where’s Janine?” you greeted him with your signature smile that was usually reserved just for him.
“She just went out probably to work or something,” he shook his head before continuing ,”but it’s good to see you, I need to talk with you about something.”
Something about the detectives words made you nervous. Usually, he never warned you before bombarding you with a flood of words that oftentimes didn’t make as much sense to you as they did to him. So him actually telling you that he needs to talk to you couldn’t be any good.
“Yeah, of course. Are you alright? You know you can talk to me about everything,” you told him while trying to keep your voice as worry-free as possible.
“Actually, I’m in a bit of a frenzy right now. I would consider my relationship with Janine to be going pretty well, especially for my standards and experiences with relationships of any nature, not just romantic. And I thought she felt the same until she told me something I still can’t really comprehend or understand,” his brows furrowed and you slowly took a seat in your usual chair, which was facing Sherlock ,”She told me that she didn’t like me living with you anymore. Janine considered it quote ‘weird’ that I have pretty female roommate, when I already have a girlfriend. But here comes my struggle, she gave me an ultimatum: Either, I ask you to move out or she will leave me. I hope you can understand that I have to ask you to move out. You can of course stay as long as you need until you’ve found a new place. As I said, things have been going rather well between the two of us and I don’t want anything to disrupt this newfound peace.
“Please keep in mind that you are still my best friend and that I deeply care about you. But I beg you to understand that I don’t really have a choice. I’m sorry, I really am.”
With every word your face fell more. But you could also fee anger burning under your skin, making your blood boil. Who does Janine think she is? Who does she think she is that she could force Sherlock – your best friend – to throw you out?
Of course you could understand Sherlock. As much as it pained you. You knew he had no choice and you wanted him to be happy, no matter how much you wished that you were the one making him this happy.
“Oh Sherlock, It’s alright. Well, I mean it’s not but I can see why you don’t have that much of a choice if she practically forces you… Did she say anything about why exactly she thinks that it’s weird that we live together?” with ever word it was harder for you to hide your feelings. If you could, you would never leave 221B, especially when someone like Janine practically demanded it from you. “I mean, she always was kinda weird with me, but I just thought we got off on the wrong foot or something, but it seems that she really has a problem with me.”
Sherlock immediately tried to reassure you “No, no, she never said anything bad about you. Just that it bothered her. And I also don’t think she dislikes you, you just don’t know each other that well.”
He could sense that you still didn’t fully trust the situation and it was breaking his heart that he could practically see you falling apart in front of him. You were slumping more and more in your chair, slowly resigning to the fact that you would have to move.
“Okay Sherlock, I’ll move out. But only if you promise, that Janine will not come between our friendship. We will still see each other on cases of course, but I also want us to do stuff together, even if it’s just walking around the block or me listening to you playing the violin. Don’t you forget about me! Deal?”
“Deal,” it was definitely not hard to accept, as he wanted to still stay in contact, even if he had to spend a lot of time with Janine, acting as if he actually liked her.
After coming to terms with everything that happened in the last 10 minutes, you excused yourself. You went downstairs to the one person who knew exactly what to do in any situation.
You only had to know once before Mrs. Hudson’s door opened, to reveal the old lady in an apron that was tied around her waist. “Hey, do you have a moment to talk?” you asked her.
“Of course, darling. I have always time for you. Come on in,” she said before stepping aside to let you in. After offering you some biscuits you both sat down at her kitchen table.
You gave her a full run down of what has happened before asking her “What am I supposed to do now? I don’t even want to move out and I have a feeling that he doesn’t want me to either.”
“Oh dear, how can this genius of a man be this stupid? Well, there’s not much we can do, is there? I’ll talk to Sherlock about this, but I’ll also go call up some of my old girlfriends and ask if anyone has a cheap place to stay for you. But don’t worry dear, my door will always be open for you, no matter if you live here or not,” her words were only partially calming you down.
“Thank you, I appreciate it,” and with you words it was understood that this conversation would be put on hold for now.
Your conversation now moved to other things and before too long Sherlock was knocking on he door. “There you are. Geoffrey just called, he needs us at a crime scene,” you wondered if he would ever get Lestrade’s name right. Probably not.
“His name is Greg, Sherlock. You should know that by now. But I’ll be there in a sec, I just have to get my coat and bag,” you say before making your way upstairs again.
Sherlock was about to turn around, when Mrs Hudson called him back. “Where do you think you’re going, young man? Come in for a moment, I have to talk about something very important with you.”
Once the door behind Sherlock, the elderly woman started talking “What were you thinking, Sherlock? Throwing that poor girl out of my house without discussing this with me first? And then for that girl, that you’ve known for what, 5 months? I just don’t think that this is a wise decision. I’m not blind I can see the way you look at each other when you think the other isn’t watching. Oh Sherlock, I don’t want you to do things you’ll regret,” Sherlock may miss a lot of social clues but he could definitely tell that Mrs Hudson was not happy with this at all.
“I know it might seem sudden, but I think this is the right step,” he hated lying to her, she has been almost like a mother for him these last few years that he has been living here.
“Just think about what I’ve said Sherlock,” at that he looked at the floor before leaving the flat, almost bumping into you.
“You’re done? Let’s go.”
~*~*~*~
That happened now almost a month ago and you could practically cut the tension between you and Sherlock. Since that day, nothing has been the same.
You had now found a flat that you could afford and that wasn’t too far, you still wanted to be close to work.
Every time you talked to Sherlock, it was trained, he gave you short answers. No long rambles anymore, only when you were on a case. No more listening to his violin when you can’t fall asleep. No dinners are spent laughing anymore, as you now eat alone in your room, not being able to bear Janine and Sherlock being all smiley and couply with each other.
Almost one month of wishing you had your best friend back.

Sherlock headcanon
Okay so you know how a month after John gets married, Sherlock gets a girlfriend? And it's shows how much he really knows about relationships because he tries to propose not even a month after meeting Janine?
But like imagine, Janine was in on it the whole time. Like you know, 2 weeks after the wedding, Janine gets a call from him and he's like "go on a date with me." And Janine's immediately like, "uhm,, I think this is for John,,,uh, do you want me to forward this to him?" Because, yeah, she knows. You can't make that love letter best man speech and expect no one to know. So sherlock explains it, why she's in a prime position and everything and she's like, "hmm okay what do I get in return?"
And he's like "didn't you just hear? Big diamond ring, very authentic, get you a cottage in the suburbs."
And she's like "hmmm,,, okay, let's go make your biyfriend jealous."
Cut scene to her in Sherlock's shirt coming out of Sherlock's room and joining him for bath and kissing him. She gets the footage of John's reactions later from Mycroft.
Bonus: the bath scene.
Janine: *standing on one corner* what's he doing now?
Sherlock: *completely submerged in the tub* how should I know?
Sherlock:...
Sherlock: making tea.
Sherlock: how did he react?
Sherlock: stop laughing!
Sherlock: and seriously, 'Sherl'? He's never going to let me live that down.
Janine: oh sherl

would you rather kiss a man or a woman ?
I do have experience with both, due to a faked relationship for a case, which required kissing a woman unfortunately. And it was not a very pleasant experience, and I had to use all of my self control to not pull a face in disgust and to look happy and lovingly at her.
My only other experience would have been with John, and as that was bearable, I would conclude, although it is a very limited dataset and thus not an accurate scientific estimation, that a kiss with a man would be the preferable option. Of course this also all depends on the person in question, I would probably rather kiss a woman than the most disgusting and unhygienic man in London. But all in all I would rather kiss no one as it is a very unhygienic practice because it transfers 80 million bacteria between people. However the microbiome of humans that cohabitate are very familiar anyway due to the shared space and also mostly shared food, thus with John it would have less of an impact as our microbiomes would be similiar to begin with.

Donovan was villainized, Mrs Hudson is a comic relief, Irene Adler was sexualized and fell in love with a man she barely knew while calling herself gay, Mary Watson was fridged, Janine was used and disregarded, and Molly was made fun of for four seasons and didn't get any closure regarding her feelings for Sherlock.
The original Sherlock Holmes books were written in the Victorian time and were more feminist than this show.

They left the campsite a little later than planned, but Stella reckoned they would make up enough time by avoiding early morning traffic into the City.
Sally, who had managed an undisturbed night of sleep, apparently still had plenty of sleep left in her, and was snoozing in the van's passenger seat, her head held in a pillow and a blanket pinned over her shoulders. She looked like a fighter at rest; body unwilling, spirit also unwilling.
So Stella was alone with her thoughts for the drive to London. Her thoughts and the melancholy of a Katie Melua album. The grey cloud from the night before had followed her into the next day and it wouldn't let her just ignore it, so Stella leaned in.
As she watched the long highway stretch out in front of her, increasingly grey and daunting; she was left to mull over just how much she dreaded returning to the office. She would make up some reason as to why her reports would be in by the evening, instead of the morning; she’d take the lecture, and then she’d buzz off for the actual weekend.
She could still remember the days when work was all she lived for, though the memory felt more and more like a different life. If she’d wanted an ordinary life she would have become an accountant, or a manager or one of the other careers her parents had insisted on, but she had fought for this life. She’d fought to get this far into her career. In every department she moved into she was always “The youngest DI in the division,” and “The most promising young agent,” and all that fluff that felt like it never ever actually led to anything. No increased responsibilities, no increased access, no increased independence; only increased bullshit. Bullshit by the shelf-load.
More forms, more protocol, more insufferable people to answer to, more restrictions but less actual codification (since it was implied that you knew what was expected, but nobody ever verbalised those expectations) and the more gracefully one could contort and bend and smile and speak gibberish, the more one fit in. It was like being stuck in a hellish game of twister, and everything that wasn't a dot was lava.
Here was the rub, ultimately, when it came to Scotland Yard, those who fit in far outpaced those who stood-out in any meaningful way. If someone like Sherlock Holmes, for instance, had tried to join the police force, he wouldn’t have made it even a week. Sherlock did his work by being different and by thinking differently: thinking differently at the Met was a recipe for daily harassment. Sherlock literally walked around with an ex-military bodyguard attached to his slender hip so it wasn’t surprising that he barely noticed.
So Stella was torn, because if she wanted her career at the Met; saving lives, pursuing the course of justice - then she had to toe the delicate line of acceptability. Even when it felt like the other side of that line was exactly where the saving lives and the justice lay. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't make it make sense.
But it had to make sense somehow. Somehow she was missing something.
It was like she constantly had to sacrifice doing the right thing, for the opportunity to keep having the opportunity to do the right thing - knowing that if she ever simply did the right thing, she’d be a failure. And would promptly be treated as such.
Stella was aware that Sally saw her as some sort of righteous hero who spoke up about a bunch of stuff that most agents knew to shut up about; but she didn’t realise just how much Stella did simply let things slide. How much she avoided because she knew that if she looked too closely she’d have to see her own culpability. Her Guilt. Fucking guilt, there was no use pretending that that wasn't what it was.
Their first late night conversation in the van played back in her mind and she felt now that there was a lot she might have said differently. She'd protested too much.
Trying to wrap her mind around the sordidness of it all made her want to punch a wall. Or else just sleep for a week.
She instead fumbled for the flask of tea she’d made for the journey; and washed down her bitter frustration. The tea was persuasively sweet. She’d figure it out, she just had to make sure of some things.
When Sally had still worked at the Yard this had all seemed much easier. No less convoluted by any means, but also not unmanageable. Perhaps it was less that the problems felt smaller but that she felt a bit bigger than them. Detective Hopkins versus the world felt like a joke, but Hopkins and Donovan versus the world was at least a breathtaking game to watch.
As she eased onto the fast lane of another high-way, her mind shifted to Sally’s cold case. The case that had finally pushed her out of the Yard for good was also the case she’d probably fought the hardest for. It was unlike Sally to concede defeat, perhaps that was why she'd ejected herself when a win looked to be impossible.
That case that had twisted her entire life inside out. It lay, like a pandora’s box in a locked cabinet under Stella’s desk and every now and then she riffled through it.
It was nothing spectacular, or out of the ordinary, and she couldn’t see what about it made Sally abandon everything in search for answers - all of a sudden. Children went missing every day. If they were to stick to every case older than 6 years where a child had gone missing and turned up dead in the river, that’s all they would ever do. But they didn’t. Because accidents happened, and people got careless, and some things were just not the Police’s job.
But Sally knew that as well as she did, which meant there was something about the case that she was keeping to herself. Some details that made this case stand out. Somehow she was... missing something.

“Got to go - I’m not supposed to keep you talking. Also, I’m doing an interview for The One Show and I haven’t made it up yet.”
“ Just one thing. You shouldn’t have lied to me. I know what sort of man you are - but we could’ve been friends. ” “ Keep the beehives. ”
“ I’m sorry? ”
“ If you like, I’ll teach you about bee-keeping. ”
