the way sitcom etc shows right now (like brooklyn 99 / abott elementary // schitts creek // idk) are single-handedly saving television as oppose to the supposed ‘big budget’ shows (stranger thing // euphoria // etc) should be studied in a socio-economic lens i swear to god-

Remember that Brooklyn 99 meme? Except nobody threatens Alastor's coffee.

BB99 jump meme take 2: The Electric Boogaloo; Alastor Edition
Revenge is best served spilled all over the floor.
Vaggie definitely is starting to suspect something is up. She and Charlie very awkwardly dance around having a conversation about the issue and are both equally relieved and uncomfortable about the revelations to follow.

dana tan’s rat trauma is tbh one of the most interesting parts of batman beyond and i wish they had done even more w it! my points ig (evidence & my thoughts)
id argue that she displays the four characteristics of ptsd! (obviously there’s a limit to how much is actually shown bc she’s a side character who doesnt actually get a lot of screentime and it’s media from the late 90s/early 2000s, only like 20 years after ptsd became an actual diagnosis iirc) ANYWAY
exposure to trauma (bb s2ep9): patrick (ratboy) stalks and kidnaps dana, bringing her to his weirdass sewer home and tracks her down when she tries to escape, putting her in a terrifying situation & evoking strong feelings of helplessness. (i also imagine she could have some guilt over her part in causing the fire, even though it was in self defense). just complicated feelings overall, as she says she feels bad for him and how it was pathetic and terrifying.
intrusive symptoms (bb99 #17): she gets a flashback when nelson throws a rat onto her head during a science class which is a rlly interesting scene bc of how it depicts the rat in her eyes - malicious and huge, a clear flashback to the giant rats patrick had & threatened her with. rats of all kinds are clearly a trigger for her.
avoidance of triggers (bb99 #17): she avoids the sight of rats - closing her eyes and refusing to look at them both when the rat is on her and when terry is holding her away from the rats when they go crazy - as well as avoiding them in general: “get it off me - leave me alone! tell them to leave me alone!”
chronic heightened arousal (bb99 #17): she displays a lot of anxiety and paranoia regarding rats, thinking that she’s being watched (they are, but she isnt actually aware of that) and that the rats are out to get her: “the way it looked at me… the way they all looked at me… like they knew me. like they were trying to tell me something.”
there isnt actually really a point to this i just rlly like that they actually thought about how the whole experience would impact her and how it has an actual lasting effect on her!!
i think there could be a rlly interesting narrative when she finds out patrick survived (again) bc the closure she gets at the end of issue #17 would get ripped away like it did when she found out he survived the fire (“he’s gone. i’d know if he was still alive. i’m sure of it.”). vigilante dana when.

They need to make a new good long sitcom- like 30 Rock, Parks & Rec and BB99. I miss a proper Sitcom.

Also as an Ex Christian, Warrior Nun is a big middle finger to Homophobes and Evangelicals in general. Idk, to quote Captain Holt from BB99, VINDICATION!!!!
So true!!! The way the show portrays queerness in general is just really, really good. You can tell that it's something the writers actually care about getting right.

Broadcast television has become so utterly mediocre. We used to get such great shows from all genres, the good wife, lost, desperate housewives, community, parks and rec, person of interest, fringe, the good place, bb99, FNL, Hannibal and we also used to have some fun prodecurals, castle, mentalist etc. Don't get me wrong there was always a lot of mediocrity but we used to have at least a few great dramas and comedies every year. Now it's like everyone with a good idea went to get stifled by 8 episodes in streaming and all we're left with are the fbi's and the law and orders and the NCIS's, we have Abbott elementary and ghosts but that's it. There are no truly great dramas or even truly good ones. I have seen almost everything and I can't think of a single one, granted there are a couple I enjoy but I wouldn't consider them to be on that standard. They don't want to do interesting storytelling anymore, just minimal effort all around. I enjoyed Alaska daily idk if you saw it with Hilary swank, about missing indigenous women in Alaska and journalism but that is for sure toast.
And ... that was cancelled today.
The thing with network TV is that the model doesn't reward risks anymore. Even the NCIS /FBI/One Chicago model doesn't really allow for those shows to take many risks within the already existing standards and preconditions. And outside that model, risks are nonexistent. If you get one big swing a year, you're lucky. And if that show is allowed a chance to grow, it's a miracle. Used to be risks were left to streaming, but even streaming is cutting down on risks these days. They might give them one season, but Netflix isn't truly giving shows a chance to grow anymore, so let's not really sing their praises.
The WGA strike might really change the landscape going forward, for broadcast and streaming. It might all depend on what the final deal looks like, but a lot of the things writers don't seem willing (and shouldn't) compromise on are the things that might make or break the industry and might determine how many risks we see being taken in the future. I don't think it's overstating it to say we are literally living a moment in time that might shape the future of entertainment.

Do you remember the BB99 episode where Amy was mocking Jake saying how he let a killer go free? I didn't like that at all because no one should ever mock someone because of a mistake that big. I was wondering if you could have the Reader (who is Jake's and Gina's old childhood friend) overhear Amy doing that and her immediately saying that Jake wouldn't have done that to her if it had been the other way round and just fluffy ending with Reader helping Jake get the killer back in?
Hiya unfortunately I don’t remember this episode and currently don’t have access to Netflix so I can’t watch it so it now I’m unable to write this, I’m sorry💜

The global stock market rally isn’t as narrow as you think: “If you assign equal weights to the MSCI Europe, Japan and the US indices, this is the best start to a year since 1998, Lapthorne notes. In dollar terms the Nikkei 225 is off to its best start since 1999.”
