The Bavarian Mountain Scent Hound is calm and balanced, devoted to its owner, and reserved with strangers. He is a sound, self-assured, unafraid, biddable dog, neither shy nor aggressive.

Hailing from Germany, the Bavarian Mountain Scent Hound is the Bayerischer Gebirgsschweisshund in its native German. The breed's most notable trait is its outstanding "cold nose" tracking ability. His nose is so acute, he can distinguish between the injured game he is hunting and other animals of the same species. This somewhat lightweight, active, medium-sized breed is devoted to his owner, but can be reserved with strangers. He is not a kennel dog and prefers to be around his human family.

Another great thing about rereading the Inkworld trilogy is that while my copy of Inkdeath is hardbound, the former two aren't -- and it just so happens that they were what my dogs chose to nibble on when they were puppies/young dogs. Especially Inkspell -- the upper left corner of the back cover is torn, and there are little bumps where my dogs' teeth didn't manage to pierce the paper. The last five or so pages have a tiny little chunk bitten out of them -- not even half the size of my pinky fingernail, but still.

And it's like. Man. Dude. Something something books holding memories in them. Maybe that's not precisely how the author meant it? But oh man absolutely.

Thinking about what dogs different Stormlight Archive characters would be…

Kaladin would 100% be a rottweiler. People think rottweilers are scary but they’re just very protective of the people that they care about. They’re super loyal and defend their people.

Shallan would be an Australian cattle dog. They’re high energy and very intelligent dogs.

Adolin would be a husky. They’re very pretty dogs, and Adolin cares a lot about fashion and his appearance. They’re also very chatty.

Renarin would be a borzoi. This is mostly because I think borzois look like they’ve seen the Horrors that Renarin has.

Dalinar would be an Anatolian shepherd. I felt like a livestock guardian dog would fit him very well, and Anatolian shepherds are HUGE.

Navani would be a Bavarian mountain scent hound. These dogs are calm and reserved generally speaking.

Jasnah would be an Afghan hound. They’re very cool looking and just give off her vibes.

Yalb would be an American water spaniel because he’s a sailor. That was my only justification.

Syl would be an Australian shepherd because of high energy. I just also love Australian shepherds and wanted to give this to her.

Pattern would be an affenpinscher just because those are very silly looking dogs and give off his vibes.
