I wonder where the baton twirling little girl from Rain King is now. I wonder if she still twirls batons. I wonder if she shows people the episode now and then, or uses it as a “fun fact” in ice breakers or whatever.
I really weirdly identified with that baton twirler. I’ve done that performance, the strange and inappropriate guest performer for a small group that couldn’t care less. It’s a really bizarre vibe.
Hope you’re having a great life baton girl-now-woman.

rewatching cardcaptor sakura and sailor moon makes me remember how worried i was that i couldn't twirl a baton. i mean how could i ever hope to dramatically swirl my magical item in my magical girl era if i can't twirl and catch a baton?

do you ever think about how dancing for other animals is a mating ritual? we all find people who can dance well super attractive. back in the day, balls and dance halls were places to scope out potential suitors: formalised dresswear as well as being smooth with the moves was essential to presenting oneself and one’s prowess and confidence to society. the nobility was taught not only political, socioeconomic, and linguistic knowledge, but how to dance as well. is dancing a human mating ritual? or, the better question: what’s stopping humans from embracing dance more? in this essay, i will explain why i find dancers so damn attractive…
