When you realise that Bruce is the one who brought up the notion of ‘love’ between them (if you choose it) the rest of their interactions can be observed with the knowledge that, John is under the impression that his idol admires him. Of course now all their interactions following this choice have homoerotic subtext (if not already)

The fact that the two of them are completely serious in that scene is just the additional brain chemistry changing detail.

I started Batman: The Enemy Within yesterday and I'm like halfway through Episode 4 now, just talked with John at the lair - I SWEAR. BRUCE N JOHN. THE ONLY TWO I WILL MAKE SURE COME OUT ALIVE AND HAPPY. and like Tiffany and Alfred but MAINLY BRUCE N JOHN.
