One thing I love about Ronan - dare I say, I find incredibly refreshing - is that he's *not stupid.* And I mean that in any other series his character archetype would be designated as "the dumb one." Because he doesn't like school, well golly he must be dumb. But he's written as incredibly smart, in a way the others aren't.

I always appreciated that The Raven Cycle shows us Ronan IS intelligent. He's just not suited for the school system or traditional education - and that's perfectly okay. It's one of the few series I've seen that equally acknowledges intelligent people do not always perform well, or even enjoy, being in school. Because Ronan, when he cares about the topic, is intelligent as any of the others. He's the best in Latin and it's implied it's nearly effortless. (And solidifies my stance that Ronan is a bit of a perfectionist and when something is difficult for him he has a tendency to write it off - in academic spheres. But that's for another day.) His Latin is not perfect, but it's notably better than Adam or Gansey's. This is also part of Ronan's character that is later fleshed out, and expands him beyond his one dimensional character tropes.

So, this boils down to me being especially frustrated over his line about the Latin for "raven" being given to Gansey. Because even if they have their reasons - like us not having Gansey's inner monologue - I find this an odd choice because 1. Ronan is connected to Latin in a way that foreshadows his connection to Cabeswater, 2. RONAN IS INTELLIGENT and it's important we see that he's smarter than he projects, he likely hasn't been engaged in academia the way his brain needs to be (i remember a draft involving Ronan connecting with a teacher in elementary school, and this being significant for him), and finally, 3. Gansey is bad at Latin. Like. Explicitly so. Like. He admits to the reader he doesn't know or enjoy Latin all that much. And it might seem mundane or pointless but that's a detail about Gansey that further stresses the significance of having Ronan on their search. He doesn't know the Latin for raven, and this moment was meant to establish that Ronan is intelligent in ways Adam and Noah and Gansey are not. I'm worried Ronan is being written as the dumb comic relief, to be frank, and not having him as the resident Latin expert really alters his place in the group's dynamic.

(I'm not writing off the graphic novel but of all the changes this one baffles me THE MOST. It's not even a censorship issue its a rewriting of character dynamics and character depths that bleed into the rest of the plot.)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Jun and Sorn are color-coded boys in love. We all know it. That's not what this post is about.

Because it's kinda about Vee.

She knows her man cheated and instead of dumping him or trying to move past it, she is holding grudges against every single person who dares to even breathe around her man.

And that person just happens to be Jun (twice!).

Jun has witnessed Vee's jealous behavior because Puth cheated on her with Yo and he just happened to be in the same vicinity as Puth.

Which is why I think we keep getting reminded of Puth's sitiuation since Sorn needs to clear the air about what exactly his relationship with Penny is to Jun.

Because when Penny pops up, so do barriers.

Jun shuts down when Penny is around because he doesn't want to be the Yo in their Puth and Vee soup.

Jun said he was going home, and Sorn is wearing a different shirt, so if this is a different day, the tension is still lingering between them.

But when Sorn removes his seat belt, Jun physically reacts, and moves away into he corner and looks down as if he was prepared for (and not wanting) Sorn to kiss him like he has previously done.

Then Sorn asked him to visit his hometown, and he looks at him.

Sorn is aggressive (and has a big problem with consent). He is a fleet of red flags.

(Didn't even try to steer toward the softness that was present)

But somehow Jun still told him that he likes him more this episode, and he reciprocated Sorn's teasing.

So even though Sorn continues to lightened up, and Jun is getting darker (because they are in love!), Jun doesn't want to end up like Yo.

Now, when will Sorn tell Jun the whole truth?

Will it be before or after Jun makes him cry?

Finding hilariously ironic how most of Sanji's perv jokes end up being extremely trans-coded to some extent only because the joke is longer than it should be.

The "guy with a woman's body" joke has been a thing for ages now, but it usually ends after the "haha I have booobs" joke. Sanji extends it to "I want to stay in this body forever. It feels right. I don't want to give it back". Which could still be read as some perverted stuff, but I don't think any man would agree with that. No matter how much of a pervert he is. Because usually being perceived as a woman is something they refuse to go through although they like being in possession sexually of a woman's body (a type of excitement Sanji actually shows, not by being that much aroused by it but being comfortable with it? Which is... A different approach to the joke).

Sanji has made the typical "going into the girl's changing room/bathroom" joke a couple of times, but in Egghead he goes all the way to be extremely frustrated about not being able to do so? And it is obviously different than wanting to keep Nami's body forever. It can still be seen as frustration for not being able to see girls naked. But. But. The fact that the length of the joke increases? The fact that it's way longer than it should be for an average "haha boobs" joke? You know what I mean.

Not to mention his whole arc during the time-skip and how a simple (both transphobic and misogynistic, by the way) joke, goes all the way to show us that Sanji is indeed comfortable in more feminine clothes and environment, until he's pretty much forced to snap out of his fantasy to go back to the crew. But he wasn't having a bad time at all. And it is intended to be a joke, but it's... Longer than it should be to be considered only a joke and to not pay attention to it.

This isn't meant to be an analysis of any kind because if it were I would've worded it differently and would've mentioned how his childhood is also extremely trans-coded, but we all already know that. I just find it extremely funny how all of these jokes that intend to be directed at straight perv men are actually too long to not be taken into consideration as something deeper than a joke. But, aha, yeah, these are just jokes and definitely not proof of Sanji's perception of gender and his issues with it.

Because after that one haikyuu CD drama of class 3 vs class 4, my head has been swarming with ideas and scenarios and I couldn't let another year pass without writing them down.

btw, this is as if they were in P.E class and playing a silly basketball match.

Kageyama

would absolutely try to set the ball into the hoop. He would like, win five points straight by setting until the other team started complaining about how that was illegal

he would still pass the ball as if doing a horizontal set though.

gets a bit thrown off because his opponents are LAUNCHING at him instead of standing two good meters away from him behind the safety of a net

again with passing, he just would be so analytical about who to pass? and his teammates would be like "JUST PASS THE BALL" but it is so difficult for him to focus when the ball is repeatedly trying to get taken away from him that he just passes it to whoever is next

one time, that person was tsukishima (other team) and kageyama almost died of frustration

he is the type to be setting the basketball while in breaks. he will later try to set a volleyball and ricochet it straight up to the ceiling and be surprised at how light it is

Hinata

he's so damn fast. like, he will be on the other side of the court in the blink of an eye.

walks a lot, though. he's teammates both hate him and love him.

soooo good at taking the ball from others. until tsukki calls him a bug that has to crawl to play (kageyama thought it was very funny)

after that, he starts competing with kageyama (who is on his same team) on who can score the most points (kageyama wins and hinata insists his first five points by setting do not count)

when he is on the bench, he will cheer for his team so loudly and have the time of his life.

volunteers to be the one jumping for the ball at the start of each...set? idk the name 😭😭😭. his team doesn't let him, tho.

once, he receives a pass. it hurt him like hell but he said "it was all calculated".

once, he spiked the ball, and it hurt him like hell yet he said "it was all on purpose!" with tears on his eyes.

Tsukki

he's having the time on his life watching hinata and kageyama embarrass themselves over and over again

is forced to do the jumping...and that's like his only contribution to the game.

tries to chat away the time of the game with Yamaguchi, but Yamaguchi gets surprisingly into it so tsukki is kinda standing on a corner like 🧍‍♂️

whenever hinata has the ball, he blocks it and is so annoyingly happy about it. ("try to score, shrimp, let's watch you try it" "TSUKISHIMA, YOU JEKR!")

HE'S JUST SO ANNOYING WITH HIS BLOCKING--like, putting his arms like that

he stops in mortification when yamaguchi says "looks like kageyama and hinata aren't the only ones missing volleyball--wait Tsukki I didn't mean it" (he will never forget nor forgive Yamaguchi for that)

after that, he's pretty useless (doesn't want to run, doesn't want to jump, passes the ball to whoever is closer to him, doesn't try to take it away from anyone) so he gets benched

he has a nice view from the bench though, so it isn't that bad. and with nice view i refer to him watching as Yamaguchi thrives and getting a full-on gay crisis (me too, tsukki, me too)

his peace is ruined after hinata is benched too (because, well, all students need to play and it is just a silly P.E match) he feels less lonely but he will never admit that

Tadashii

he's surprisingly good at the sport because he played it with his cousins before. he is getting way too into it.

he mimics tsukki's blocking in basketball after learning it was legal and indeed a common play.

was so crushed when tsukki got benched ("now I'm going to be all alone" "you didn't even talk to me while I was there" "THAT'S NOT THE POINT")

jokingly told tsukki (mouthed the words) "this ones for you" expecting to absolutely fail. he shockingly managed to score when he was way too far from the hoop. he blushed and died and everything and tsukki just pretended to be cool.

the type to apologize everytime he bumps into someone or does something he things might have hurt anyone.

before tsukki gets benched, he passed the ball to him and tsukki didn't notice it so he got the ball smashed on his stomach. tsukki might have recovered but Yamaguchi will never (very guilty and insisted to take him to the infirmary)

after P.E finished, he would joke and said "it seems that my destiny was basket and not volleyball after all." hinata was not amused. yachi was seriously worried that yamaguchi would leave and gave him a whole stuttered speech. yamaguchi had to assure her like ten times that he would, in fact, not leave the club.

the basketball captain tries to recruit him though. it only makes his rivalry with daichi grow.

Yeah, this whole thing could have been written in fic format, but I was too lazy and too tired and maybe I will someday, but who knows!
