I adore Robbie honestly, he seems like such a silly guy, I just had to draw him again! Aaand, somebody I've been needing to draw for a WHILE...

DUSTY!!! What a big ol' guy, the cuddles are worth the respiratory disease!

It's a little hard to tell in this picture but fermentation is going crazy and the gas being produced is pushing all of the water in the water lock to the left chamber. Really neat to see a physical result of fermentation occurring. It has settled down a little bit but the water lock is still gurgling pretty regularly as gas passes through it.

My Thoughts on Movie Bobby Drake (aka Iceman)

It’s important to understand I love ALL Bobby Drake interpretations equally (except for AOA Bobby… but like… if there was an X-men I’d wanna die to it’s definitely Nightcrawler, so good on him)

But I do enjoy a lot of what movie Bobby (the OG X-men trilogy… plus the DOFP movie… I guess) brings to the table in terms of Bobby’s characterization.

Is this my nostalgia bias talking from watching the films and having a childhood crush on Shawn Ashmore?

Yes. Yes it is. (and he is still very handsome in my eyes)

Some of the BEST stuff from comic Bobby in my eyes is when he’s able to drop his “class clown/comic relief” side, and actually get very serious and emotional. (I adore his humorous side, but sometimes it does get a bit cringy)

Movie Bobby kinda does this, by having him almost drop the jokester aspect of his character entirely, say for a few small quips.

Problem is, at face value, movie Bobby is kinda…. bland. Outside of the “coming out” scene in X2 and mostly just the scenes with him and Pyro in X2 and Last Stand, there’s not a whole lot of depth to him, which I mostly blame on the romance & later love triangle between Rogue and Kitty. (Not that i dislike those characters, just that their romance with Bobby feels… forced if not cliche and boring)

I feel if Bobby had more time to develop his character past his romances, he’d be so much fun in the movies. Especially if they went further into his relationship with Pyro, and how their ideals contrast each other (in a similar fashion to Xavier and Erik, which Pyro & Bobby parallel PERFECTLY)

This would DEFINITELY be more enriching if we got a closer dynamic between Bobby and Warren in the 3rd film. Not only because they’re best friends in the comics, but because Warren is technically one of Bobby’s first real crushes.

Imagine if John resents Bobby because he feels as if Bobby just replaced him with Warren? That’d be amazing!

Not only that, but what if we add a bit of contention between Bobby and Warren? Let’s say Warren is envious of mutants like Bobby, as he can hide their mutation, but he can’t. They have a heated argument, but this eventually pushes Bobby to use his ice form more, accepting that side of him.

All of this, and then add a bit more of Comic Bobby’s funnier personality into the mix, make it slightly more snarky and sarcastic, and still keep a bit of Movie Bobby’s personality (a split 50/50)

I think that would be a perfect change to Bobby in the movies, and his story as a whole.

Side Note: But going back to X2, Shawn Ashmore captures this absolutely fantastic sad look in his eyes when his mom asks “have you tried, not being a mutant?” and I love it. I don’t know how to describe it outside of a “sad puppy dog” look.

Tucker is working at Wayne Enterprises not too long before clocks them as the civilian identity of Batman and Red Robin. He treats it like how Danny and them did back in high school. No one uninitiated to the club of people I talk about this for the second identity get the low down on it and treat it as two different people, not one shared one. He has done a great job of this and it is not that hard. As they keep the details that would drop the illusion on tight lock down. Really good job guys solid with plenty of plausible deniability.

Normally if this was not so time sensitive he would just drop off the file with their designated police guy Gordan or phone in the bat tip line to get a secure drop location. Only this can't really wait that long so he is going to have to dip behind the curtain to keep the show going. Not much just a tiny bit and he will keep it on the down low to not ruin the illusion for those not in the know.

Tucker rocks into the office a bit early for his shift with the file. He lets one of the secretaries knows he is doing a paperwork run to Tim's office and asks if they have anything to join the stack? A couple more files join his by the time he makes it to the right floor. He drops them off like a normal delivery of more sensitive physical copy files. Well almost normal he also leave an apology Death Wish coffee and breakfast sandwich for him dropping off extra work. Tim barely looks up until the coffee and smell of greasy fried goodness hits. By then Tucker has already left and gone to do his regular start of shift stuff. Not realizing that the file titles Red Robin Only is causing a tiny controlled meltdown before even being opened.

It of course only gets worse when a week later Danny shows up to visit Tucker at work. Cut to Danny floating part way through a wall to hand Tucker the box of fudge he forgot to bring in while in front of Tim. Nothing like apology fudge to help smooth things over. You forgot this this morning after staying up so late making it. Tucker why is one of the bats freaking out? I thought you had the whole sorry for breaking the illusion and dipping into your civilian identity talk already. What do you mean it is an supposed to be an actual secret?!

Tucker gets a job at Wayne Enterprises, and instantly clocks Bruce and Tim and Batman and Red Robin (and thus by extension figures out the rest of the family).

But since he figured it out so easily, he assumes it’s an open secret that everyone knows but keeps on the down-low for privacy and whatnot. After all, that’s what Danny’s identity had been like by the time they all graduated. Basically everyone in town knew unless the feds were asking. Because those white-suited government bastards can Fuck Right Off.

And thus, when he later finds an important potential lead on something, he doesn’t think much of just… handing it off to them to deal with. Yeah, he’s temporarily breaking the illusion, but it’s not that big of a deal.

Needless to say, Tim vehemently disagrees with that assessment, and is now deeply invested in finding out what the hell is up with his employee and his weirdly secretive hometown.
