It has always helped him express himself with pencil and pen though, letting the graphite tip dance over the paper more smoothly and less hesitantly. To this day, Xiao uses music to block out the world when it all gets too much and familiar tunes help him calm down.

Scara has been heavily influenced by Venti whose music could always be heard throughout their shared flat. While it vexed him at first, soon he found himself nodding along to the melodies, something his roommate noticed and then offered to share a Spotify account until Scara decided to make his own. And, although he’d rather die than admit it, despite how much he loathes his upbringing, he can’t deny that some classic pieces sneaked in between his usual rotation.

Kazuha loves to let his spirit rest as he absorbs the feelings artists pour into their music. For him, it’s important that he can connect to the story that’s being told, either through the lyrics or the sentiment the music conveys. He opts for rather calm songs that invite you to relax even if there’s a deeper meaning to the lyrics. Music is a way for him to create his peace of mind when he can’t be out and surrounded by the sound of nature.

Venti’s Spotify account is working overtime, that app is never closed. As a former band member, he knows how to play a variety of instruments and has tried a lot of styles himself, so he’s very open minded when it comes to new genres. He also absolutely kills it at karaoke nights, even if he’s already a few drinks in. Something might actually be wrong when he’s not nodding or singing along to the music playing in his head or tapping out the beat on whatever surface is closest. In general, handing Venti the aux is a fantastic idea because he can somehow always accurately gauge what music is the right mood for the given situation. He also judges films based on the soundtrack.

For Aether, listening to music is the time he can let his (gorgeous) hair down. While he’s normally busy making sure everyone else is okay and is doing fine, he seldom takes the time to take care of himself. So when he can lean back and turn up the volume, it’s a very welcome breath of fresh air. The deep base and powerful voices help catalyse any feelings that might have built up over time, and, just maybe, the songs and lyrics are familiar from the time he was lost and confused about what his place in the world was. Yet, he can also appreciate the catchy tunes of popular pop songs that get stuck in his head.

It’s also a great gateway to interacting with customers; you better believe Heizou is already halfway into a conversation when he catches a glimpse of a photocard.

GORTASH / DURGE (Baldur's Gate III) Come on now, the lyrics are PERFECT for a Durge lamenting about the big dumb crush she's got on Enver and oh my god? He likes her back? (She says, kicking her feet in the air, after a bloody massacre, much to Sceleritas Fel's dismay)

MAYOR HANCOCK / LEE (Fallout 4) UGH oh my god so I know Lee Know from Stray Kids is his faceclaim but this song is very much them. Wanting to run away, seeking freedom where they can take it? Not wanting to take shit for all the crap that's been thrown their way? Yeah <3 Maybe for a modern AU <3

GORTASH / DARK URGE (Baldur's Gate III) It's not cheating! If Kill! Kill! Kill! was from Durge's perspective, I can see this being from Gortash's perspective (the fact this is one genuine emo/alt??? perfect for Gorty's aging rockstar look). Like come on, it's in the name, the lyrics, the screamo bridge? Davey Havok knows what's up.

ONMUND / ALREK (TES V: Skyrim) Oh man. Oh man so this particular album from Bastille has been very Onmund/Alrek coded to me (for reasons I won't get into yet ;D) But this is very much like Alrek watching the world quite literally burn and the only thing he can think of is courting the cute mage and throwing all his cares into the wind. After all, when the world's ending, why does any of it matter?

CAPT DELACOURT / MC (Heart of a Sky Pirate) Hey, my otome game officially lives on an app, so this counts ;D But these more upset, shanty-esque songs definitely reminds me of Delacourt and his romance route. Throwing your cares to the wind (literally) and having a grand ol' time no matter where the adventure takes you.

F!SOLE SURVIVOR / CURIE (Fallout 4) Hear me out: I think Parker's (my sole) romance with Curie is almost highschool puppy love. And it doesn't help that they both have some pretty huge baggage that they need to work through-- so having someone to lean on and love in a way that's easy, carefree and happy? Yeah they're gonna hold onto that <3

STELLE / MARCH 7TH (Honkai: Star Rail) Forever crying that my Caelus is getting so many better pulls than my Stelle, but fwiw, I definitely think Stelle and March have a very fun, easy-going relationship. Kinda need to when you're Trailblazing across the galaxy in a giant space train (and angering gods along the way, oops!)

GALE DEKARIOS / TAV (Baldur's Gate III) Hear me out: I think these two would be so into each other in the way that they absolutely would not leave each other alone. You think Astarion/Tav is bad? These two have it worse. To be more precise, my Tav for this romance, Rae, is very much into exploring his romantic curiosities with Gale. No one else makes him feel as safe and wanted uwu

Every time i try to think of an au for dando it feels really difficult for me since the biggest reason why i love their dynamic so much is the turning point between the start of their being teammates and the end of it sooooooooo

for these lyrics i'd write a lando pov that takes place immediately after abu dhabi where he's hellbent on maintaining his friendship with daniel. it was so hard-won for the both of them and he just. . . he really likes him. despite all the awkwardness they faced, despite the confusing time where lando had to convince daniel that he had no idea mclaren was going to drop him.

he's serious about what he says to the media: he loves daniel, loved him as a teammate and a friend. So daniel does stay his friend. if i had the brain space for it i'd write a chapter for every race that takes place and just the progression of it, their time together on the paddock and the times where daniel is away. parts where danny makes fun of the beard and then ultimately tells him he looks handsome and he should keep it. parts where danny facetimes him while he's home in australia and lando's in austria and wishing daniel was at the race.

lando hearing about the pirelli tyre test and thinking about how he'd stay for it if he could, if only see witness it in person.

over the course of the year daniel truly becomes his best friend, the one who debriefs with him AFTER the mclaren debriefs, regardless of what time of day it is for daniel. he becomes lando's anchor. daniel doesnt bullshit him about his performance, or the car's, but he does help guide lando regarding what he might be able to tell the engineers.

lando's frustrated and angry and he's tired of disappointment after disappointment but his bright spots are daniel. and when the inevitable announcement of a seat for daniel drops, lando jumps on the chance to go meet daniel wherever he is to celebrate it.

he cuts short his summer break to fly out to LA and surprise daniel and daniel is so shocked by his appearance that lando bascially falls into his arms at the doorstep and daniel's like you're crazy what are you doing here and scotty and chloe are like oh my god landoooo come in

anyway big happy funtimes and that summer break ends with lando kissing daniel and daniel kissing back :D

8. Cosmic Love - Florence + the Machine

Really any ship that could become dark. Obviously the first to come to mind is Karina Lantsov and her relationship with Mal, Alina and Aleksander bc Aleksander would LOVE to drag all three into the darkness with him. But also some of my AUs for Eleanor Winters, especially the ones involving Lycan!Chris and alive Wesker (which totally does not turn into Eleanor x Chris x Wesker bc what am I if not predictable). For OCs themselves, likely Ashley Williams and Octavis Octavius. In TLoU P2, Ashley kinda goes off the rails at Joel's death (though I go back and forth between killing him and not). And Octavius, there's the whole anti-heroine Madame Octopus thing.

18. Meet Me in the Woods - Lord Huron

ELEANOR. In fact, I should double check if I've added this to her playlist yet. The lyrics just scream the aftermath of House of the Rising Sun/All Things End. Goes with Ethan to figure what wtf is going on with Mia, gets (unknowingly) killed and turned into a B.O.W, goes through hell, meets and eventually falls in love with Chris only to get betrayed bc of Mother Miranda bullshit... should probably change this to be her them song tbh.

28. Ain't No Grave - Crooked Still

This is on my Ashley Williams playlist and fits her perfectly, because nothing will keep her from her loved ones (Ellie and later Joel). She grew up doing all sorts of questionable things just for Ellie; she's even willing for a good chunk of the journey to throw Joel to infected or groups if it'll buy Ellie time to escape and live.

38. Setting Sun - Lord Huron

Funny, as much as I adore this song, it's hard to apply it to an OC or ship without diving into massive AU territory. The Darkling I can see being like this, but Karina is a Malarklina ship so kinda not at the same time since he considers all three his? Same thing could apply to an AU involving Eleanor x Chris x Wesker or Lyall x Diana or even Luke x Jana. Pretty much add unhinged possessive behavior in a dark au to an oc or ship and you get this song, haha.

68. Pompeii- Bastille

Eleanor Winters, Sidney and Donna Riley-Weathers, Maureen Prescott, Nelda (to a lesser extent when you factor in events from Murtagh). 'Does it almost feel like nothings changed at all?' And for all of them, in some way, that's true. Eleanor gets dragged back into facing off B.O.W.s in Romania; Sidney, Donna and Maureen all deal with Ghostface and being legacies of og Woodsboro survivors (and as the child of Sidney and Billy in Maureen's case). It's heavily hinted at in Murtagh that there's shaping up to be a new big bad that might have been behind Galbatorix and whatnot in Murtagh, so Nelda is going from one war to another, basically.

78. Seven Devils - Florence + the Machine

Even though it's on my Eleanor playlist, it could also fit Ashley, because of the lengths she's willing to go for the few people she cares about.

88. Gasoline - Halsey

Too many, tbh. Obviously it's added to my Eleanor Winters and Ashley Williams playlists but it also applies to my DBH OCs Fred and Christi bc of the lyrics 'I think there's a flaw in my code' bc you know, they become deviants and all.

98. In Dreams - Ben Howard

I have no idea. Mind immediately goes to Eleanor but also not quite because she does get a happy-ish ending with Chris even though she does lose Ethan. In a way it also kinda reminds me of Ashley. 'I may be troubled but I'm gracious in defeat'; she's okay with who she becomes and what she has to do for Ellie and later Joel. Idk this was honestly hard.

Spotify playlists, for the most part, lol! His overall trooper tag is from the founding song of his playlist, fight club by fitzy! (Thus it also became essentially the title of his playlist.)

And then his outlander tag is a slight alteration to lyrics from Glory by Bastille. In the song, it's "and all their words for glory / well they always sounded empty" but the slight shift to present tense for his tag better represents that such is a realization he's just sort of coming into around the Alliance era. (It's taken root earlier, but its weight as a truth really settles in his chest during that period.)

Ngl, his trooper playlist is probably one of my favorites that I've made. It is still relatively shiny and new, so it's definitely benefitting from age in that respect, but. I have. Just so many feelings about him and this playlist came together kind of along the way, so it was a bit of a journey itself, I guess. ^.^

Some are also quotes from Pinterest boards. I should go back and touch up a few of the others because adding the bracket labels I think is nice for context so I kinda wanna do that for the others now, too. X3

Okay so for this one I envision Steve and Eddie both going through life thinking they weren't really made for love, like maybe they both had some experiences in the past (Stancy) that made them believe that love isn't really for them (the lyric "Dinner wasn't made for two" !!!!). BUT THEN they meet each other for the first time, I'm gonna say in a bar or a club or something, and as soon as they lay eyes on each other they know. It's like they've only half-assed being in love before and now they know what it also can be like. So they get to know each other, they get to build memories together, they get to fall in love with each other, and the one thing they know with 100% certainty is they'll never let each other go, no matter what.

Do you know what it does to my brain, imagining Emmeryn and Grima seeing each other in the endgame while Grima makes those big grand terrible speeches? Deliberate and intentional and villainous, and Emm is the only one who knows what a lie it all is. Delicious. Love it.

God Says Nothing Back - The Wallflowers (Future Built): I've loved this song for years, it's just so good, and it works in such a weird perfect way here? "To be in your heart, I filled my own: love says nothing back but 'I told you so.'" Attempts to remain detached crumbling in the face of honest connection. I absolutely love it.

When I Watch the World Burn, All I Think About is You (Demo) - Bastille (Future Built): Very heavily entrenched in Emm's PoV for late game Future Built, since I shuffle events a little to give SpotPass stuff better breathing room. That last, soft, tender "All I think about is you" refrain is Grima smiling at her one last time before Robin deals the final blow with the cymbal crash.

Divide - Bastille (Sibling AU): Endgame Sibling AU, entrenched mostly in Grima's PoV and recollections of his time with Emmeryn, not realizing that while he's prepared to give up, she is most certainly not.

Those Nights - Bastille (Sibling AU): Continuing the grand tradition of me completely missing the point of lyrics and intentions, the second verse is very specifically associated with a scene where Grima is nearly assassinated in the Ylisstol Castle Gardens and Emm is trying to keep him conscious and responsive

Love like You - Rebecca Sugar (???): Honestly no idea where this one is going to fall, but I love the connotations too much not to include it on the list now thanks anon.

I'm gonna do two because lots of my fic titles are song lyrics, but Run Away With Me was entirely inspired by the Carly Rae Jepsen song and wouldn't have been written without it! But I also listened to I Know You by Craig David feat. Bastille on repeat during the writing of By Your Side (as well as the Madness song that inspired the title), and I can't think of the fic without thinking about the song <3

6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?

I'm still on my yearly reread of Three Days by zamwessells (I've read it every year for a decade) and I always come back to Love, Changing Tenses by @susiecarter whenever I need an emotional rollercoaster of a comfort read!

Chan’s arms were wrapped around Woojin, his face buried in Woojin’s shoulder as the other boy laughed. “Channie, that's so great! Now some poor bastard is gonna be sent over here to bring you coffee instead.”

“God, I don’t ever have to balance 12 cups of coffee at once again. Or kick the elevator button because my hands are full. Or bring that idiot Park a croissant because ‘he switched to tea.’” Woojin rubbed his back and Chan let his eyes fall closed for a second. He felt such an incredible sense of relief.

“Slow down there, you've still got 2 months of summer left,” Woojin cautioned, pulling away and causing Chan to take a step back and realize he was full on koala bear-ing the poor guy.

“Yeah, they said they'd start training me on some stuff early though. Ease me in, let me do some shadowing. Plus I'll be training the new guys!”

He must have looked… mischievous, because Woojin’s expression turned disapproving. “You know if those kids show up and talk about what an asshole Bang Chan is I'm gonna get the dirt and then tell them all the embarrassing stories about you.”

“Fiiine, I'll be nice,” Chan said, winking.

Woojin paused. “Hey, so you should let me take you out for coffee sometime. To celebrate.”

Chan wrinkled his nose. “Don’t you get tired of coffee?”

Woojin smirked. “Well, I could take you to dinner instead, if you'd prefer?”

“No, no no no,” Chan replied quickly, shaking his head. “That’s too much, I was just teasing. Here, or…?”

“Not here, no the guys would never let me live that down. How about that place on 6th Avenue, by the College of Pharmacy building?”

“Yeah, okay!” Chan looked down at his phone, noting the time. “I've gotta get back, but text me about the time and stuff. Thursday’s your day off right?”

“Yep, does that work?”

It was Chan’s turn to flash a suave smile. “I can make it work. I'll see you Thursday.”

If Chan would have been paying attention, if he wasn't dense and perhaps a touch sleep deprived, he might have noticed the pink in Woojin’s cheeks.

He didn't.

Over the next week. Chan found himself looking forward to Thursday. Thinking about Thursday. Planning out Thursday. Just generally being excited about Thursday.

He'd have to go into work a little early and stay later than normal, but his bosses gladly granted him two hours off in the afternoon. To be honest he hadn't spent much one-on-one time with Woojin-- he was a little nervous. It was easy being in the cafe together because they were always caught up in the banter and the joking and the laughing that was almost constant with all the other boys-- Woojin was going to realize that Chan was actually pretty shy and not very funny. His horrible dad jokes and innuendos would come off abrasive and uncomfortable if they were alone. It's not that Chan wasn't a genuine person, he was just... anxious. In fact the more he thought about Thursday the more anxious he got-- partially the fear of messing things up and partially the fear of being truly himself around someone he admired. Thursday began to loom ominously ahead of him.

Chan’s closest friends tended to be his oldest friends. He didn’t make friends easily and he simply couldn’t bring himself trust new people. He got himself so worked up about things that he’d said, things they said, and his mind would take over. He would replay conversations in his head only to think up ways they could have been better, things he could have said that would be smoother or less embarrassing or more interesting. With his longtime friends he had overtime been able to take most of the pressure off, mostly by reinforcing over and over again how he didn’t have to be interesting and smooth and not embarrassing around them. And when he did backslide, they’d freely offer the sort of validation that was exactly what he needed.

But new people were hard, and Woojin was new, and that made everything messy. Chan really liked him, really really liked him. It would have been much easier if Woojin was just a cute, funny barista; but he was sweet and kind and caring as well. He asked Chan about his day, fussed over him a bit on extra stressful days, and genuinely tried to take care of Chan where he could. It was a strange feeling, being taken care of by a friend, as Chan was the friend who took care of everybody. Sometimes he felt like he held the weight of them all on his shoulders, but he wouldn’t trade it for anything-- in turn, they held him up as well. Kim Woojin was refreshing in a way that Chan hadn’t experienced before, and he was terrified of fucking it up.

That’s why he latched on to none other than Han Jisung on Thursday.

“Hey, I haven’t told you. Uh, if you need me this afternoon I’ll have my phone on me, but I have to be out of here at 11:50 until about 2. I’m meeting a friend or coffee,” Chan told Jisung, sitting on the empty desk beside the high schooler.

“Oooh, a boyfriend?” Jisung replied, wiggling his eyebrows as he sorted through a giant stack of papers. Ahh, the joys of internship clerical duties.

“Haha, no.” Chan deadpanned. “Just a friend. You might have met him if they’ve sent you to get coffee over at Rosetta? Kim Woojin?”

Jisung smirked. “They don’t send me to get coffee anymore. One time I dropped an entire tray in the BYG lobby. Right on someone’s expensive fancy leather shoes. He kicked up a fuss and so… yeah I sort papers now when I’m not shadowing.”

“How… how did I not hear about that?” Chan demanded.

“I may have told you I spilled one coffee… at the time. Shut up, I was embarrassed. I do know a Kim Woojin who goes here. A writer? Blonde, about yea high” Jisung gestured vaguely.

“Yeah, that sounds like my Woojin. You met him at the coffee shop?”

Jisung frowned. “No, I’ve never actually seen him there. We met last summer in a writing class, he was kind of a mentor.”

“Thursdays are his days off so I guess that makes sense.”

“It’s too bad, I really liked him. We lost touch after the class, but we used to just sit around and write together. He’s fun.”

“Do you, uh, want to come? Get coffee with us? We’re celebrating, I got the internship position for next year so I’ll be actually making music and learning from the people here.”

“Chan, that’s so great! Yeah, I’d love to come! Do you think he’ll mind?”

Chan considered it for a moment before shaking his head. Woojin was pretty easy going, Chan figured he’d actually be happy to see the high schooler once again. Woojin was just...  like that. Plus, Jisung would keep the mood lighter. Chan wouldn’t have to worry about one-on-one time or making a fool of himself because Jisung had the habit of playing everything off as a joke. He was like the other baristas-- yes, Jisung is exactly what he needed. The anxiety in his stomach dissipated a bit; and while he knew he would still replay all the conversations in his head and mentally smack himself for this or that, he’d be more calm in the moment. Less panic meant less embarrassment which meant less retrospective horror. This was good.

He grabbed Jisung before he left and they headed around the corner to the cafe they were meeting Woojin at. Jisung asked why they wouldn’t just go to Rosetta and Chan brushed the comment off, saying Woojin probably just wanted a change in scenery. When they arrived, the genuine surprise in Woojin’s eyes made Chan smile. He was totally caught off guard, and after shooting a confused look at Chan, his normal smile fell back into place and he pulled Jisung in for a warm hug. Everything went so smooth, and having Jisung around kept a lot of the attention off him. The mixture of celebrating, Woojin and Jisung catching up, and them all exchanging stories was easy and comfortable and perfect.

By the time Jisung left, Chan was confident and calm enough that he only felt little flutters in his stomach-- no shaking hands, no racing mind. It was a good sign. Maybe Woojin’s smile was a little more tight-lipped than normal, and maybe Jisung jokingly texted him ‘dude did you invite me on your date????’ and a bunch of laughing emojis; but Chan put that all out of his mind and considered it a success. It definitely wasn’t a date, that’s for sure. His social anxiety gave him a one-up on other people, and usually he was the one over interpreting social cues. Still, he went to sleep that night thinking yeah, it might be nice to date Kim Woojin one day. Maybe that was in the cards for him.
