Plot

Seungmin and Minho are apart of a rock band (including Felix and Chan) yet the two can’t seem to work together for their rehearsal for battle of the bands.

Heart beats:

“No, Minho stay on the beat!” Seungmin said his hands gripping the ends of his bass guitar, the music abruptly stopped all together. Seungmins face only got redder as he saw Minho rolled his eyes and silently mock seungmin. The dirty, crowded garage was fully silent, only the sound of Felix tapping on his mic was heard throughout his Felix’s mom’s garage. “Dude, let’s just take a break.” Chan said as he placed his electric guitar on its stand. Chan then rolled his eyes, already over the fact that seungmin and Minho couldn’t stop fighting all this week. “Guys we have three days before battle of the bands! How about you two stop being jackasses and stop fighting over everything little thing!” Felix said as he huffed and moved from the microphone stand he was in front of. “You two either make up or we find a new drummer and bassist.” Felix said rather firm, and when Felix spoke firm everyone knew he meant business. Chan just sighed headed inside the house, Felix just following behind. As soon as the garage door closed seungmin went back to glaring at Minho. “You’re the reason this is happening! You keep trying to play your own way and it’s distracting my play!” Seungmin says as he quickly placed his bass guitar down.

“Well Felix and Chan don’t have a problem…maybe it just your shit bass playing.” Minho says as he shrugs and lightly taps the snare with his drumsticks. “You didn’t-“ before seungmin could finish his sentence Minho stands up and talks over him. “I did—I mean you’re the only one who ‘can’t focus’. Chan is doing just fine, electric isn’t too far from a bass..I don’t see the problem except you being shit.” Minho said as he placed his sticks down, his face with that same shit eating grin seungmin hated. Seungmin didn’t know exactly when he started despising Minho, maybe it was the day Minho got too cocky and started making fun of seungmin. Other than that seungmin wanted to clock Minho right in the face. “Well I don’t know if you’re stupid or something and never heard of ‘not everyone working the same’ but i think that’s exactly the case.” Seungmin said as he cocked his head to the side. “Well, do better then I guess.” Minho said as he shrugged yet again, stood up and stepped away from his drum set. “Oh yeah?” Seungmin said as he widened his eyes and tilted his head. “Yeah.” Minho said as he walked over to seungmin tilting his head too, even mocking the way seungmin widened his eyes.

“Well start staying on beat.” Seungmin said leaning closer to Minho as he grinned and lifted his head straight. “I do..I always do.” Minho says as he walks up to seungmin, little too close to comfort. Seungmin didn’t know why his heart started beating or why all his confidence just packed its bag and walked away, but seungmin knew he had to calm down. “Well, Chan and Felix want us to be civil, so let’s be civil now, huh?” Minho said as he then placed his hand on seungmins shoulder, Minhos thumb lightly rubbing against seungmins white shirt. “I’ll be more nice to you seungmin-ah..” Minho said with his usual grin. Seungmin felt he couldn’t speak, or even breathe. “You—better.” Seungmin stuttered, that’s all he could say. Minho just gave seungmin a small smile and released his soft grip on seungmins shoulder. Seungmin could still feel Minhos hand on his shoulder, it was burned to his skin, it still felt hot. This drastic change in Minhos tone made seungmin feel different almost shocked. “I’ll tell the boys we made up, yeah?” Minho said as he started to walk backwards to the garage door, his head tilted and his lips curled to a mocking smile. Seungmin just stood frozen, Minho chuckled at that. “See you inside!” Minho said before filling turning around to open the garage door and head inside to the house. After the door closed seungmin let out a small sigh, one he didn’t know he was holding in. “That bastard.”

“hellloo?? kim seungmin! get your head out of the clouds! we need you back down to earth,” one of seungmins band mates scolded, her bright pink bubble gum popping against her lips. she scoffed when he finally shook his head out of his thoughts and stared back at her. she held up her guitar,

“bass, seungmin. please, play it.”

seungmin silently looked around the rehearsal room at his other band mates, they had already started and he was still standing there yet to have gotten out his instrument.

“right, sorry,” he stammered around the room trying to gather his things and get situated. the same girl rolling her eyes with an attitude. thankfully, a few of his other band mates didn’t have the same reaction as she did.

“let’s take a break,” chan said.

“but we just started!”

“we can’t start without one of our most crucial members.”

she groaned in response, putting her own guitar down and stomping out of the room, announcing she was going to go buy a drink from the nearby vending machine. “what’s her problem? she only came last week and i already can’t tolerate her attitude,” hyunjin complained as he jumped down from the stage, his fingers raking through his bronze hair. “she’s only here to fill in for jisung, relax,” chan tried to calm the younger down but he just wasn’t having it.

why did everyone seem to be in a bad mood today?

after everyone seemed to finally get their nerves to dial down, seungmin joined the stage and everything started smoothly. only, it was short lived when he kept messing up the rhythm in one of their songs. not only that but he couldn’t seem to get the same rhythm for his vocal parts either.

“seungmin, what’s up with you today? did something happen?”

it was clear that they weren’t going to have an efficient practice today if things kept going this south.

“sorry.. i just have a lot on my mind. can we pick this back up tomorrow?” he asked. “our concert is in 3 days, we can’t waste time if we’re doing this horribly,” chan reminded everyone.

well, he couldn’t argue with that.

the day of the concert followed quick, the band was still struggling and seungmin blamed it all entirely on himself. he couldn’t seem to focus hard enough to sing or play the correct notes much less the rhythm. was stress finally getting to him? he didn’t know. maybe he lost his jinx?

usually all it took was cleaning the house for his jinx to come to him but he had already cleaned everything that needed to be cleaned for the past week. what was wrong with him?

this is what he had been thinking about as he sat in the leather chair hoisted up to your height. you stood awkwardly as you admired his features, not knowing what to do. you had rehearsed this scenario in your head millions of times. you would walk in, great your all time love of an idol, and get on with your job while trying not to stare at him like an idiot. but much to no one’s surprise, it seemed like you had already failed 3/4 of those steps. “i- uh- hi! seungmin-“ you wanted to run out the door and never come back.

good thing he wasn’t focused on you to pay attention to your stuttering ass.

shrugging up your shoulders into a deep inhale, you gathered up the courage to finally start doing your job like you were paid to do.

oh, the amount of things you did to get this position.

“i’ll start with your makeup,” maybe you should have started with his outfit first but you decided he could just go without until you got to his hair. “please close your eyes while i apply a skin moisturizer,” he did as he was told, instinctively. you had to hold yourself back from the nauseating feeling of being around such a flawless man.

as you rubbed the thin coat into his skin, you were infatuated with how surprisingly soft it was. your hands sculpting his face almost perfectly.

when he opened his eyes back up again, you had to hold yourself back once again from passing out.

this was just too much.

you started applying his makeup, the process wasn’t too hard as all of the members were going for the same smokey theme. thankfully natural colors were your forte. you couldn’t have seungmin looking like a troll when you had just gotten the job.

when the makeup was done, you lead him over to the dressing room area to pick out his outfit. now it was starting to get hard, the concept required the members to have extravagant clothing and this was where you didn’t study as hard in your training when you were getting mentored. maybe that was going to be your downfall.

“hmm..” you picked out a white set with a red accent, handing it to him to try on. he silently went into the small closed off dressing room. “oh wait! try this instead!” you handed to him once he stuck his hand out to grab the new clothing. “wait.. no,” you interrupted as he was about to close the door to the room, your instinct quickly launching you to grab the mistake of a choice you made. except, you seemed to have made a bigger mistake when you decided to jump into his arms unexpectedly. the both of you bouncing off of the dressing room wall and into the door that slammed shut, trapping the both of you inside. you had to stop yourself from nearly vomiting right then and there at the feeling of his bare chest against your cheek.

he was shirtless.

“i-i’m- uh- uhm- i’m actually so sorry!!” you stuttered. you weren’t even sure if he was understanding the language you were speaking right now. you weren’t even sure if you understood it. finally, after the almost 30 minutes you have spent with your favorite person in the whole world, he noticed you. looking down at your embarrassed and flustered state, he leaned down to your height, his body hovering over yours. “who are you?” he asked.

you were almost thankful he didn’t recognize you.

“i’m your new stylist..” you mumbled, the heat rushing to your cheeks when you realized you whispered it with no way of knowing that you even said coherent words. “what?” you stared at the ground, scared to look up at his face or even his chest for that matter.

“seungmin?”

suddenly, you were pushed up against the wall, one of seungmin’s arms digging into the wood next to your head while the other pressed up against your face. shushing you from making any sound. he was so close that you could feel his body heat through your thin layers.

but your anxiety was further deepened when you finally came to your senses and realized there was another person in the room.

a woman.

“hey i know it’s right before the concert but.. i need a huge favor!” it was the same girl that was giving him shit the other day during rehearsal. “i was wondering.. y’know how you were talking about how you have a jinx? yeah uh.. i know it’s a stretch but i was wondering if you could help me out with mine..? maybe if we try it out, you might learn how to spike yours back up again!”

you were disgusted. just who did she think she was trying to ask seungmin such things when it was the night of the concert? it was due to start in 2 hours and she was actually asking to do such vile things with him right now? in public? did she even know him? you couldn’t even begin with how much you had to say to such a proposal.

yet, it wasn’t your place to say anything. in risk of getting caught and losing your one and only opportunity to see your idol daily, you kept your mouth shut.

the room was silent. no one said anything.

“seungmin?” she called out again. “are you in there?” her footsteps got closer. the panic flashed across his face as you watched him closely. he quickly grabbed ahold of the door handle, pushing you behind him and out of sight. “oh, sorry, i had headphones in. what were you saying?” he watched as her eyes trailed down his bare shoulders as that was the only thing shown from the crack of the door.

“oh.. uhm. where is your stylist?”

that was definitely not what she was saying.

“she stepped out. said she had to run to go look for an extra accessory that was left out of the box,” he shrugged. thank god all celebrities were required to take acting lessons in this company or else the both of you would have been screwed.

“oh.. well, i was just asking if-“

as if a guardian angel was upon you, you were saved when the girl was called out of the room to finish up her hair. you sighed out a breath of relief when you heard the door close faintly.

“oh my god, i thought i was going to die..”

“you’re the one who got us into this mess.”

“i didn’t know she was going to walk in!”

“oh, so you meant to rush me into a strictly one person dressing room and shove me up against the wall while peeping at my half naked body?”

you stayed quiet. that was entirely not your intention yet you realized how it seemed to be that way in his eyes. you didn’t know how to apologize accordingly. “can we just- not be in this room anymore?” you murmured. “don’t i still have to change?” you nodded. “right,” that was when you finally were out of his way and getting back to work. although he seemed to already have a bad impression of you, you couldn’t stop your heart from racing at the thought of him being that close to you. the way his hand wrapped around the back of your head to keep from hitting the back wall.. to the way his hair fell perfectly into his eyes with a messy fluff. it had your blush spreading from ear to ear. you stood next to the clothing rack in a fangirling frenzy for so long that you didn’t even notice when seungmin stepped out and observed you while you stopped your feet, wishing such a moment could happen again. “do you have ants in your pants or something?” he stared at you unassumingly. “huh? oh! no- i just- uh-“ he rolled his eyes and walked back into the main room to sit back in the same leather chair as before. you failed to notice the small smirk that he secretly displayed.

the embarrassment was suddenly a familiar and commonly occurring feeling to you.

you walked back into the main room as that was where you were going to finish up the rest of seungmin’s look, topping it off with some accessories. you dampened his hair with some water so it would be easier to style, starting with the back and going to the front as that seemed to always be the way to go for you. the closer you got to the front half of his hair, the more you started to notice a smile creeping up onto his cheeks.

you raised a brow, “what are you smiling about?”

“you.”

you tried your hardest to hide your blush.

“i don’t understand what you mean..” you trailed as you continued to blow try his hair, thankfully the blow dryer was at a low enough setting so you didn’t have to ask him to repeat himself 10,000 times. he just chuckled in response to your confusion, which only furthered your mixed feelings but you just continued on his hair.

finishing with his hair, you moved on to the accessories as he was busy looking at something on his phone to care too much about what you were doing. in a way, you liked it better that way. now you could admire him without being paranoid that he was going to say something to embarrass you. picking a nice looking chain off of the table of accessories that was located close to the dressing rack in the corner of the room, you walked back over to seungmin who was still peacefully looking at his phone, scrolling and giggling occasionally as he seemed to be going though tiktoks or reels. you dared to peep, though. you knew better than to be rude like that.

snaking the chain around his head, you made the mistake of not shuffling around behind him to do this as it made for a difficult time reaching around him to clip the silver. you struggled so much that you didn’t even realize you were slowly leaning too far into his space that he had to put down his phone because the space was so close that you started to block his view, your face coming only inches away from his. “yes!” you whispered a praise to yourself when you heard the click of the chain locking into place. yet your happiness was short lived when you realized the situation you had put yourself in, your eyes growing wide when you saw his already as wide as they could possibly open. you were speechless, unable to form words as your idol, your star, was sitting in front of you, inches, centimeters away from your lips. he was so close that you could feel his hot breath tickling your dry lips, your tongue subconsciously running across them to give them their color back. “i-i-i’m-“ you started but were stopped by seungmin. “let me guess.. sorry? isn’t this the third time you’ve messed up today? it almost feels like you’re trying to get my attention now,” his shocked expression smoothly forming into a smug one, as he made no efforts to push you away or pull you in.

not yet, anyways.

you didn’t respond, not sure of what to say as you were still in shock. your arms were still wrapped around his shoulders from when you put on his chain, your knee holding yourself up as you leaned on the extra space in the large leather chair that his slender body didn’t take up.

when he caught on to your loss of words, he just smiled. “are you waiting for something in particular?” he asked you, that question alone being enough to send all kinds of messages and unprofessional thoughts through your brian, wanting nothing more than for your long lasting fantasies to come true with such a question being thrown out. just what exactly did he want you to say in a time like this?

deciding that you had embarrassed yourself enough, you cleared your throat and made an effort to get up. he didn’t stop you, you understood why. he didn’t know you and you were only his stylist. that’s all it should be.

but something told you that this wouldn’t be the only you embarrass yourself like this, in front of him. as it had already been happening an unreasonable amount of times, today.

“well.. i’m done with everything! i apologize for.. well, y’know.”

“it’s okay, it didn’t bother me, really.”

that’s a relief. you think.

you were both interrupted by a sudden knock on the door, both of your heads turning to catch whoever was trying to get both of your attention. “we’re getting ready to start soon, is his look ready?” you nodded and turned to seungmin, who was already up and gathering his things into his arms—which wasn’t much—and headed for the door where the woman was standing. before he left, he turned his head back towards you, “thanks for helping me find my jinx, again.”

when he left, you could barely hold back a scream.

you had such a love-hate relationship with his job.

The fact that i.n has a french horn made me think of who would play what in Marching band. As a certified band kid, and trumpet player (important for later), i am qualified to make this decision.

Chan is drum major. He is best leader, he keeps time, he makes sure everyone in the band is alright. He's also section leader in the off season for percussion, probably plays a wind instrument but surprises everyone by playing bass clarinet.

Noona is hard to pinpoint, because it's a reader insert so i don't wanna pick one and have someone feel left out, so I'll say tuba and make everyone mad.

Minho is flute during marching season and piccolo off season. He's also a section leader but begrudgingly because he was assigned it.

Changbin is a trumpet. There's this joke about trumpet players having massive egos, but i think he's my kinda of trumpet player. He conveniently picked one up, thought it sounded cool, played for all of middle and high school. He's got a tiny bit of ego, like he compliments himself all the time. but once someone else compliments him, he's all shy, so. He isn't section leader but is kinda section leader bc he takes care of all the little baby trumpet players while the section leader fucks off.

Hyunjin is sax. He has the big hands, long fingers, kinda braggadocious about his skills because he knows hes good. He's not section leader because he "doesn't want that responsibility" and would rather be anywhere but practice. But when he's there, oh boy. He might also play in jazz, and during off season he plays tenor sax.

Jisung is also a trumpet player. He's definitely a band kid, like the way he acts reminds me of my trumpet players in my section leader days. He's always with changbin and always playing a random meme song even when chan signals for them to get on their marks.

Felix is clarinet. Look at that face and tell me he doesn't play clarinet. He's pure, a baby, but also has some lungs on him. The one time i tried to play clarinet i couldn't put enough air through it to make a note, but he sure can.

Seungmin is french horn. He's the kind of player that sits in class, goes to practice, plays the notes, and never plays the instrument outside that. He also keeps good time, and if you know about french horns you know they almost always play up beats and you need good time for that.

Jeongin plays trombone. Only because his arms are long enough and he wanted to do the sad trombone sound whenever.

The marching band is chaos with them, but they put on a hell of a show when they're prepared.

update (as of DEC 2021): now that the kids are living in separate houses (felix/seungmin/jeongin/lee know & 3RACHA/hyunjin respectively), assume lucy is living with the latter. most of this fic still applies though!

sims 4 build by kiki ! [ half-fictional, half-researched ]

note: this layout is purely based on assumption and is not accurate by any means. i also hope it doesn’t come across as creepy, as i’ve only used public videos (linked above) for reference! and for those who aren’t aware, sims dimensions are very particular and not at all realistic; so i filled spaces with what i believed was best. i was also limited by colour and furniture choices (i used as much custom content as i could), but this is just meant to be a fun re-creation of the kids’ dorm: lucy’s room is not real!

front: entrance, laundry/storage, art room (based on hyunjin’s paintings in i.n’s vlog), manager’s room (spare/storage/recording, where han filmed his vlog), small bathroom; chan, felix and changbin’s room (based on what i think chan had in mind for an “optimal gaming layout”).

middle: living room, kitchen, roof access (assuming that they live on the top floor of the building because of their sun rooves); seungmin, hyunjin, minho’s room (assuming seungmin’s bunk has become some form of storage).

back: laundry/storage (making a total of six washing machines based on the idea that there’s nine/ten people living in the dorm), big bathroom; jeongin and jisung’s room.

##FAVOURITE THINGS !

gaming pc: all of the computers in the house are set up pretty elaborately (most being for work purposes), so lucy's is no different. she does however, have dual monitors because of her need for screen space but dislike for laptops. and though her paychecks have done wonders for her PC specs, she is ironically the member with the least amount of clothes. also, the members have RGB-lit PCs which basically act as substitutes for lamps (as seen in chan's second vlog).

nintendo switch: lucy's recently bought one of her own whilst the boys have one in the living room, so now the kids can play up to 8-player super smash bros (though round robins are much more fun and a lot less chaotic). chan, hyunjin and lucy are most definitely the animal crossing players of the group (they may or may not be trying to induct the others to join them).

fake plants: lucy, minho and hyunjin totally want to be plant parents, but it's just not possible with the kind of schedule they have. so, they've resorted to decorating the dorm with plants that don't need watering (lucy certainly wasn't inspired by chan's cute fake cacti gift from their first christmas together).

clothing rack: ease of access to her most-used clothes is always helpful when she has no time to decide what to wear in the mornings.

electronic drum kit: bought by lucy when they'd moved into their first dorm. she couldn't bring over the kit she had in australia, so she decided to spend her first paycheck on one that was dorm-friendly. listen to *lucy's "stay" drums cover above!

guitars (electric and bass): these were purchased for her by her mother when she was 7 and 13 respectively. they are extremely valuable to her (the acoustic guitar was her gift to seungmin for his 20th birthday).

vinyl record player: even though it's not actually hers or in her bedroom. she'd gifted it to jeongin for his 19th birthday. jeongin and jisung now have it in what the kids call the certified hippies room.

prized collections shelf: right across from the kitchen pc (the one jeongin used to play among us), is a shelf filled with the bands' trophies, awards, manga books and figurines.

balcony: she has her own private balcony! she usually loves to eat, read or practice singing there, but it's more often than not a place to dry her clothes (like the others).

bathroom: because having one entirely to herself means she doesn't have to wait or take turns with anyone (though her charitable heart does let the boys use it when they're especially desperate). she can also stock it with whatever she wants and not necessarily have to share; except she does, because the boys do not at all hesitate to use her fancy and/or good-smelling stuff whenever possible (ie. when she lets them test products out or they've run out of their own).

##HOBBIES & MOMENTS !

lucy doesn't consider herself part of the cooking team, and certainly prefers cleaning chores or grocery shopping.

it's not that she's completely useless at cooking, rather she hates cleaning after herself and/or getting in the way of other members.

but minho's been wanting to tutor the girl ever since he started feeling sorry about how much she's had to clean/organise: clothes, shoes, dust, bathrooms, toilets, etc. (she says it's fine, but he knows it's a lot more taxing than cooking).

the dorm is a barefaced zone! and it's absolutely adorable how comfortable they are with each other.

moving dorms was a hassle, but surprisingly fun with friends: the teamwork to carry/build furniture was also a sight to witness.

laundry is fucking hectic! the members usually have assigned days/weeks: four of them washing on one day and five on the other. but when they're especially busy, they'll dreadfully carry their things to the apartment laundromat downstairs.

when changbin first bought exercise gear for the dorm, lucy and chan helped the buff boy assemble it (sadly, it was missing pieces). however, even after fixing it (really lucy persuading changbin to get everything replaced), a majority of the kids still use the apartment/company gym out of habit.

sharing clothes just because they can (it's mostly the boys borrowing lucy's nice jackets though). lucy does own more feminine clothing— but on everyday occasion, lucy prefers oversized/gender-neutral wear. it also helps that she's around the same height as the kids so they can occasionally lend her shirts, hoodies or sweats. she does have smaller feet though, meaning she can't trade shoes with the boys like most of them end up doing (but she seriously wants han jisung's jordans)! the kids are always asking her for hand-me-downs, which is another reason why her closet is a lot smaller than the others'.

projector movie nights when everyone's home/free are always a good, relaxing way to spend an evening! the members also have watch parties on particular nights if a few members are looking to binge a series together: eg. 8:00pm tuesdays and thursdays were anime nights for a while (then they were hell's kitchen nights, followed by squid game nights, and are now peaky blinders nights).

but when the kids can't help themselves, they'll start streaming on their respective devices (alone in their rooms, whilst driving to work, during schedules, etc.): this sooner or later causes spoiler wars in the dorms and/or members getting salty (especially if they've previously agreed they'd watch it together).

depending on how busy their schedules are, most members will opt to order meals or bring home food on their way back from work. whenever they have time to cook for each other (let alone eat together), the kids never take it for granted.

chan/lucy/changbin/felix/seungmin are the members who play video games the most often: but hyunjin/jisung/jeongin/minho can (and will) substitute any available spots.

and since there are a total of five computers (or the very least, multiple laptops in the dorm), at some point, the members have played custom games (5 v 5s or 9 player co-ops): their manager/s included!

the five are known for their extremely expressive (NOISY) gameplay: especially during league of legends or any shooter (valorant or overwatch probably).

though the members will play whichever champions/agents they like, they’ve adapted to certain roles from playing together so often (but they’re also happy to switch roles if anyone wants to learn/try something new).

changbin: tank/fighter - initiator

chan: tank/support/assassin - controller

felix: fighter/mage/marksman - duelist

seungmin: support/mage - sentinel

lucy: assassin/marksman - duelist

the five also love teaching or supporting the members who don’t play as often (note: the other four members aren’t necessarily terrible at playing games, just less confident).

lucy and felix are most definitely genshin nerds; since they love RPGs.

Chan:

social butterfly

constantly running around and talking to everyone on his island

loves doing online play with his friends

takes them on „dates“ on his island

like he shows them his favourite spots or gives them a tour of the museum

even though he knows they have pretty much the same thing

but it's more fun when you do it with a friend

just kind of messing around and having fun

Hyunjin:

takes full advantage of all the design features

pretty much the first thing he did was getting the pro designs thing and making some eyebrows for his character

also splurged on all the hair colours and styles so he can have some variety

actually really good at creating custom designs

especially for clothes

a few of his codes have been shared around quite a lot

totally uses that fact for bragging

Jisung:

really really just messing around

befriends his villagers so he can change their catchphrases to dumb stuff

has totally made or downloaded one of those nude allusion outfits and is wearing it proudly all the time

the only thing he is really serious about is filling up his museum

says stuff like „I'd die for Blathers“ and probably means it

will fight someone if he catches a sea bass just one more time

stays up at unreasonable times because the chances of getting a certain insect are higher then

Felix:

has been sharing weird memes since launch day

his friends are all very confused

he's very invested in the debate whether or not Tom Nook is an evil loan shark

won't stop sharing screenshots of his character doing funny stuff or weird conversations he had with his villagers

wants all the clown villagers that he can get

it's not about them being cute, it's about them looking so hilarious that he just bursts out laughing every time he sees them

Seungmin:

made a plan for how he wants his island to look weeks before even getting his copy of the game

probably spent several hours narrowing down different name choices

it took him forever to pick the island layout he wanted to work with

very focused on building structures and paths and bridges everywhere

also he's using time travel

because getting his town built just the way he wants it would take too long otherwise

puts decorative stuff like lamp post and benches all over the island

doesn't want to pluck all of the weeds because he likes their look

Jeongin:

only wants cute villagers

will bully all the others and hit them with his net until they finally move out

is all about the soft aesthetic

triest to make cute matching furniture and spends hours with interior design

SM: My smile and singing voice. I’m also good at taking photos!

Q. What is the first thing you do in the morning?

SM: I immediately change my clothes.

Q. How do you switch up when you’re tired or feeling down?

SM: Sleep is the best medicine! But, at times when that doesn’t even work, I listen to music and change my mood. When I’m feeling down, I listen to sad songs on purpose and share the feeling. 

Q. If you weren’t a singer, what do you think you would be doing?

SM: A university student thinking about the future. I would have been a university student, thinking about my own future. When I was younger, I played baseball, and there were a lot of things I wanted to do!

SM: Bang Chan hyung can do anything, but he is really bad at games. I can beat him even with one finger!

Q. What do you think is the most important aspect to accomplish a dream?

SM: Earnest thoughts. If you truly and seriously think about what you want to be and do, I think you’ll be able to get closer to your dream.

Q. Is there a place you’d like to go in Japan?

SM: Character shop! There are many cute characters in Japan, so I want to go to a character shop and do some shopping.

SM: The ninja’s in “NARUTO” are really cool! The artists I like are “SEKAI NO OWARI”. I think they have a really pretty voice.

FX: To understand yourself. To find the reason why you’re alive in this world. By looking for that reason, I think it is most important to understand who you are. I think that might make it easier to find happiness in your life.

FX: When I went to the dog cafe. I went alone to one last year in November. I used to be a cat person, but these days I can understand dogs and their actions so I’m really interested in them! I went for the first time with my mother, and it was so fun that I’m really into it now. I have a lot of memories with many puppies at different cafe’s now haha. I play with them while drinking something, pat them, feed them, and relax while I’m there,

FX: 「ぴえん」(t/n the pleading face emoji). A Japanese fan told me at a fansign! It sounds really cute so I remember it!

FX: Charger with four ports. I charge my phone, earphones, game controller, and charger at the same time.

FX: My freckles. I didn’t have that much when I was younger, but because I grew under the sun in Australia, it seems like I gotten more. There aren’t many people with freckles, and I think its something unique about myself! I also had a photoshoot with a Korean magazine before which I purposely didn’t put on any makeup and showed my freckles.

Born on September 14th, 2000. Blood type B. Part of 3RACHA along with Bang Chan and Changbin, and while he is well known for his passionate and melodic tunes, his high tone is well received along with his lyric and song writing. Also humourous, and is known as the mood maker.

SM: In Korea, we call people who can do anything 八方美人 but because Han is lacking something, we call him 七方美人

BC: Like this, Han is the mood maker. He makes his surrounding brighter.

HN: Everyone laughs just by looking at my face haha.

Q. What is your charming point?

HN: My face that resembles a squirrel. Squirrels are cute - I’m happy people call me that!

Q. What made you the most excited recently?

HN: When I was able to watch an anime from the start to the end in my bed at our dorm in Korea. Its an anime called “Himouto! Umaru-chan”. I really love anime!

Q. Anything you’re into these days?

HN: Um... to watch anime haha. I feel calm when I watch anime, and all the cluttered thoughts in my head goes away. “Himouto! Umaru-chan” is really funny, the main character is so cute!

Q. Is there any Japanese piece you like?

HN: Gibli is a legend! If its anime, definitely “Himouto! Umaru-chan” haha. Besides that, I like “Howl's Moving Castle”, “Spirited Away”, “My Neighbour Totoro”, “Castle in the Sky”... Gibli is a legend, everything is a masterpiece. If its an movie, “I want to eat your pancreas”. Its very sad and I watched it four times.

Q. What is a Japanese word you learnt recently?

HN: 「この番組は、ご覧のスポンサーの提供でお送りします。」(”This program is brought to you by these sponsors.”). I saw this a lot whenever I watched “Detective Conan”, and I got curious so I looked it up haha.

Q. If you weren’t a singer, what do you think you would be doing?

HN: I would have continued studying. I’m not great at studying, but my parents wanted me to study so. I didn’t have any dreams besides becoming a singer, so if I didn’t become one, I would have probably listened to what my parents wanted me to do.

Q. What do you think is the most important aspect to accomplish a dream?

HN: To have a precise goal. You need to have a specific goal to know how you will accomplish your goal. I think its important to have a plan to know how to accomplish it.

HN: Seungmin is actually quite silly haha. He has a very intelligent and wise image, but when his tension is at max, he does really silly stuff! He shouts in a loud voice, or he suddenly comes into the room and says “Aaaaah!” and leaves.

HN: I would want to become handsome Hyunjin, and see how the others watch him haha.

Born on February 8th, 2001. Blood type A. The youngest who has the cutest smile is said by all members that there is no one sweet as him. He tends to lose things easily, and apparently, he has lost his wireless earphones 3 times.

IN: How my eyes droop when I smile. My long eyes are my charming point. I’m normally the youngest and loved, but when I’m on stage I don’t smile as much, so perhaps that gap might be a charming point as well? haha

IN: Coffee frappuccino. I’ve always liked coffee and normally drink americano, but the other day I wanted to try something new and ordered it. It was really good and I was surprised!

Q. What do you think is the most important aspect to accomplish a dream?

IN: To have fun. If you can have fun, you can be positive! If you can accomplish your dream, I think it is important to be happy.

Q. Is there any Japanese piece you like?

IN: Since I was young, I’ve always loved “Crayon Shin-chan!”

Q. If you become another member for a day, who would it be?

IN: Bang Chan hyung who has wide shoulders! He also has a lot of physical strength, so I want to know what it feels like to have wide shoulders. But, I think I enjoy being myself the most haha.

IN: When we were given our breaks! My home is in Busan, I look forward to going home and eating during the break. There are many good foods, and because there is the sea, it feels great too. I want to recommend Gwangalli Beach and pig gukbap!

IN: 「これはなんですか？これはゼロコークです」(”What is this? This is Coke Zero”)

Q. Tell us something surprising about the members!

IN: Han hyung surprisingly doesn’t sleep a lot at night. He seems like he sleeps a lot, and its not like he doesn’t, but he’s the type to be on his phone at night and staying up late. And, Han hyung watches a lot of dramas, after Hyunjin hyung.

Q. If you weren’t a singer, what do you think you would be doing?

IN: A preschool teacher or a social worker I think.

Q. How do you switch up when you’re tired or feeling down?

IN: I don’t do anything specific, but I try to make some time to think and sort my head out on my own. I think it is best if you rest at times like that, so I make time to rest, and try to think positively as possible.

previous years: A SONG THAT DEGRADES EACH TIME YOU PLAY IT :: 2018 A CHURCH AND JOHN LENNON’S “IMAGINE” :: 2017 SIKH DEVOTIONAL MUSIC :: 2016 SPOOKY BLACK :: 2015 this year: I’ve spent the past few months working on a book that I’ve always wanted to write but never figured I’d make the time for. At a really basic level, it’s about listening to music with friends. A couple weeks ago, I devoted a few days to reading a stack of books and articles about the emotional experience of music. They were written by philosophers, critics, cognitive scientists, historians. I took from them two overarching questions. First, what does it mean to assign a piece of music a feeling, like “happy” or “sad?” Is the song itself “sad,” or does it just model a kind of sadness proximate to how we feel? What elements of a song do this? The fraying of a voice? Minor keys? Tempo? Is it all a trick of memory? None of the answers really satisfied me, since music is such an intimate thing. A song makes us feel a way for reasons that are often either blindingly obvious or remote and mysterious. An expert can tell you that humans are wired to feel joy when a certain configuration of notes are struck in tandem, but maybe it just reminds you of looking at the front door.

The other question was whether music itself facilitates any unique emotional possibilities--a mode of feeling that we can’t get anywhere else. Music doesn’t mimic the real world, it doesn’t make arguments. One writer suggested that the thrill of music was its capacity to remind you, foremost, that music can thrill you. In essence, each time we hear something new and feel something, we are being reminded of all the times we’ve felt this way before. We’re living in the echo of a former enchantment. Maybe you’ll hear it again, process it, assign it a genre or context, and the mystique evaporates. But music is one of those things that doesn’t happen on our time. We don’t stand in front of it and train our gaze on this quadrant or that. We don’t flip back to make sure we didn’t miss something. You can’t slow it down as it is happening, you merely let it happen. 

In the spring, the Museum of Chinese in America in Manhattan showed “The Moon Represents My Heart,” an exhibition I worked on with MOCA’s curators, Herb and Andrew. The basic idea was to look at all the ways music had enriched immigrant life, from early opera troupes touring America’s Chinatowns to karaoke bars, church choirs, and after-school violin lessons, fifties doo-wop trios to garage punks and self-taught dance music producers. There’s no legible tradition of Chinese American music so we just wanted to present it as a textured and everyday thing--the experience of the fan could be as legitimate as that of a Mando-pop superstar. While working on the show, people would often ask me for a playlist, but I didn’t really have any to share. It wasn’t really about the music itself, which could sound derivative or amateur to some. It was about the fact that they sought to express themselves through music, in contexts that made them outliers and oddballs. I came to love all the music in our show because of that second-hand thrill--that sense that these moments had been deeply meaningful to everyone in the room. 

You can hear it in the voice of Stephen Cheng, who ended up being the show’s most memorable star. He put out a rocksteady gem in the sixties and then spent the next decade in New York trying to get the Dragon Seeds, his Chinese “folk-rock” band, off the ground. Cheng died years ago, but Andrew found his children, who brought some reels of unreleased music to the museum. I remember staring at them, wondering what was on them. It was a kind of anticipation and wonder that I often miss, when the operative feeling I associate with music-listening on the internet is the frenzy of opening and closing windows, clicking links, proving my humanity to a captcha.

Stephen’s singing wasn’t great, but it was perfect. His version of “Yesterday,” all warbly and over-the-top, has now supplanted the original for me. Somehow, we played some of Stephen’s songs on the radio, including one about butterflies and love. Somehow, one of the people listening was a butterfly expert, and he was about to marry another butterfly expert. Who knew such a song was possible, the groom-to-be told me. Stephen was too obscure to be properly forgotten. Or maybe his song was just dormant all these years. It awaited just the right listener, and now, over forty years later, he would get his propers, sandwiched somewhere between the vows and Kool and the Gang, a couple minutes of people scratching their heads, searching for the right smile, saying Can you believe this? to one another.

Not senior drum major bur junior drum major because let's admit it

He doesn't really know much about what he's doing

And conducting takes t i m e to get down well trust me I know all too well

One of the most favorable drum majors because he just has that aura that speaks "Hi, I'm a very nice person and awkward just like you :)"

Which is weird because frontline don't really interact with the rest of the band

But the great thing about this is that it seems to bring both the wind section and percussion section together

And we all seem to get along better whenever he's around

But I mean he's a legend in everyone's eyes including my own so it's all good in my book

Plays so many instruments he's been in like 6 different sections in the last 3 years...

He's really talented with learning instruments fast and playing them really well and I feel like a proud father :(

The alto saxophone section leader

He's a huge goof and such a huge fan of The Flash that he owns like 17 different shirts for that series

Talks a lot of nonsense but somehow it makes sense??? I just don't know?

And he probably used to be that one band kid who seemed like he was never going to be that good but boy did he prove them wrong by getting into Wind Ensemble and Jazz 1

People know him but also they don't really know him at all and honestly he deserves better friends because most of the trumpet section is disrespectful and bullies other :(

Is one of the most relatable people I know in a sense that both of us have so much to say but too much of it is unsaid

He knows a lot about memes and we have a good laugh talking about them

But to me I really feel like he deserves a lot more than what he's getting just like everyone else I talk about :(

Seungmin:

Apart of one of the most forgotten sections, the clarinet section

Does so much for his section to be heard so he learned to play really loud whiles being in tune with amazing tone quality

Hates sticking out but if it means that people finally notice his talent... I-i mean section *sweats nervously*

Often times he forgets to breath and almost passes out from being super light headed but I mean he's working hard sooo

Still shows up even if he's not feeling well and ate barely enough food to sustain himself until his next meal

But I think the most important thing is that he listens to others a lot even though he has a lot to say he still rather listen than interrupt
