Heya!
I've read a LOT of GO fics in my time, but I can't remember if I've seen crossovers/AUs of the following movies with Aziraphale/Crowley, can you help please?
So my favourite rom coms of all time are the following, and I'd love GO versions (if they don't exist I may have to write them)!
French Kiss (Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline)
You've Got Mail (Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks)
When Harry Met Sally (Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal)
Runaway Bride (Julia Roberts and Richard Gere)
Never Been Kissed (Drew Barrymore)
I won't bother asking about Pretty Woman because I've read so many versions with either of them in either role lmaooo (and I have loved Every. Single. One.)
Or basically any late 80s/early 90s rom coms with Meg Ryan (except Sleepless in Seattle because I find it incredibly boring) or Julia Roberts!
Thank you so much for everything you do! You've helped me discover so many amazing fics and writers and it is much appreciated!!! 💖💖😇😎
Hello there!
Did you know there is a whole collection from the Good Omens Rom-Com Event that was run a couple years ago? You might find what you're looking for there! (Some of the fics are unfinished so keep that in mind)
We have previously recommended a bunch of You've Got Mail/She Loves Me fics HERE, so check those out.
As for the other ones you've asked about:
French Kiss AU:
A Bit of Crumpet by Fyre [E]
With a handsome, successful fiance and a respectable home in Manhattan, Aziraphale Fell thought his life was more than adequate. He never expected to be jilted in a long-distance telephone call and so he sets out for England to find out exactly what's going on and gets a lot more than he bargained for.
When Harry Met Sally AU:
it had to be you by curtaincall [M]
“What I’m saying,” said Aziraphale, looking fixedly ahead, “and please don’t take this as a personal insult in any way, is that an angel and a demon can’t be friends.”
“Why not?”
“Because,” said Aziraphale, firmly. “It’s against the order of things. You’re supposed to tempt. I’m supposed to thwart. We can’t go being friends.”
*
A canon-divergent AU inspired by When Harry Met Sally.
I don't know of any fics with your two last wishes but there is also:
Notting Hill AU:
Soho by Lurlur [E]
Aziraphale lives a quiet kind of life, running a quiet specialist bookshop in one of the liveliest districts of London. He's content with his lot, happy with his friends, tolerant of his probably-human housemate, living vicariously through the gossip pages.
One day, a chance encounter with Anthony Crowley, lead singer of wildly successful rock band The Demons, threatens to turn his whole world upside down.
Music and Lyrics AU:
pop! goes my heart by attheborder [E], WIP
When has-been musician Anthony Crowley is recruited by pop singer Anathema Device to write a song for her new record, he jumps on the chance to resuscitate his career with a hit. There's only one problem: he can't write lyrics to save his life.
But a chance meeting with a stranger by the name of Aziraphale, with a poetic streak that's a perfect fit for the song, changes everything for Crowley. Together, they'll create something beautiful, fight the forces of the music industry, and perhaps even find a way back into love...
A Music and Lyrics AU for the GO Rom Com Event, complete with all-new original songs written and recorded by the author!
Kate & Leopold AU:
Until by Nadzieja [T]
“I don’t want to go home.” Half-asleep Aziraphale murmurs into his ear and Crowley's heart clenches. His grip tightens reflexively around the warm soft body in his arms, around the smell of old books and sandalwood.
“Then don’t.” He’s trying not to sound like he's pleading, but his throat is tight and his voice hoarse.
*
Crowley lives his average life, working in a high-end advertising company at London that pays just enough to get him a room in a shared accommodation. That's just his luck that he ends up living with a literal witch. One day she brings home an even more eccentric man that has a taste for 19th century fashion, as if Crowley didn't have enough things to worry about. Little he knows that the man will turn his world upside down. Literally. And that's just the beginning of his problems.

Ficlet - A Time of Wanting
I've had some writer's block recently and have been making super slow progress with my wips. Then I saw these lovely kiss drawings by @mrghostrat and ended up being very inspired and writing not one but two new stories. The other is below if you're interested:
Thank you so much Bilvy for making such lovely artwork! (Also their Good Omens AUs are incredible, if you haven't read them I highly recommend them!) This is a ficlet inspired by the fifth kiss in the collage (this one). It's basically Crowley being silly and soft. (Set post an imaginary season 3 where they've saved the world and are talking again.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here on AO3 - or below
A Time of Wanting
Crowley wants.
He wants so badly and he's wanted for so long that it's a physical ache in his chest now.
He wonders how he's not broken in half with the sheer force of his wanting. He wonders how Aziraphale doesn't notice how much he wants. Surely it should be a tangible thing now, this longing that pulses through him every moment of his existence. This urge to reach out, to touch, to take.
But it seems it isn't, because Aziraphale is busy reshelving books, apparently oblivious to the demon sprawled out over the couch. He hasn't even noticed that Crowley has woken from the nap he was taking, hasn't noticed that Crowley feels as if he could shake apart with the sheer force of his emotions.
How has he survived this long without taking this silly fussy angel for his own? How has he survived without knowing his touch, his taste, the way the angel might look at him if he finally dared to do what he longed to do?
His sleep addled brain tries to imagine what those things would be like, it's nothing he hasn't imagined a million times before, again and again over thousands of years. This time though the images his mind conjures are so affecting, so very real, that they draw a whimper from Crowley's throat before he can stifle it, before he can push it down where it belongs so that he can get through another day of wanting.
Aziraphale obviously hears the noise because he turns, despite being atop the small chair ladder he uses to reach the high shelves, balancing precariously with one hand on the shelf as he looks over at Crowley and gives him a soft smile.
It's that smile that does it.
All at once Crowley's entire brain comes back online and suddenly what he thought were his own wild imaginings coalesce into memories. Actual memories. And he realises that he doesn't need to lie here and want without taking anymore. And that ache in his chest isn't his heart about to break apart, but merely where he's fallen asleep with his mobile phone jammed against his ribs.
Fuck he's an idiot.
He flails madly for a moment whilst his brain remembers how to control overly long limbs, and barely hears the clatter as the phone falls to the floor unheeded, but then he's on his feet, bounding across the bookshop.
“Angel.” The word falls from his lips almost reverently as he crosses the space and Aziraphale seems to recognise that there's something amiss, even if he probably doesn't realise just how stupid Crowley can be sometimes.
How could he have forgotten? Six thousand years of longing, and now he can have whenever he wants and his stupid brain can't seem to hold onto that fact.
By the time Crowley has closed the distance between them Aziraphale is on the lowest step of the chair ladder. Crowley slips his arms around his angel's waist, fully intending to bury his head in the softness of Aziraphale's shoulder but instead the movement is arrested by Aziraphale's hands. They come up to rest either side of his jaw, holding him gently, yet firmly in place.
“Crowley. Darling,” says Aziraphale, his tone impossibly fond and yet with that underlying hint of strength, as he searches Crowley’s face with eyes that don't even bother trying to hide their adoration.
And now there is an ache inside Crowley’s chest that's nothing to do with sleeping awkwardly smushed against his phone. This ache is his heart trying to contain too many feelings, too much love. It feels like it's bursting with it.
“Angel.” He breathes out the word softly, as if saying it again might somehow help.
Aziraphale smiles and pulls him closer, one hand slipping from his jaw to wrap around his head, whilst the fingers of the other hand press lightly, tilting his face upwards with a gentle insistence that thrills Crowley to his core.
“You silly thing,” Aziraphale says, as if he knows exactly how daft Crowley was being a minute ago. Crowley thinks he should probably object to that. Snap back a sarcastic comment to the patronising bastard of an angel that knows him far too well, that sees the vulnerability under his carefully crafted exterior.
But then Aziraphale’s lips are on his and all protests fizzle away before they've even made it to his throat.
This is what he has wanted for so long. This is his now. He can ask for this whenever he wants.
He shuffles forward, tightening his arms to mould their bodies closer together, mindful not to pull Aziraphale from his precarious perch. The kiss deepens just slightly and he feels Aziraphale's fingers dancing over his cheek as the angel tightens his hold on Crowley’s head.
There's a soft whimper and then an equally soft moan and Crowley is surprised to realise he isn't responsible for either noise. For a second he flutters his eyes open and focuses on the expression that’s crept across Aziraphale's features. It's open and vulnerable, filled with adoration and love and contentment, as if this is the one thing Aziraphale has always longed for and wants to keep forever.
The realisation, that this means as much to Aziraphale as it does to him, makes Crowley’s heart swell with emotion, even as the ache in his chest is dispelled, dissolving away into a warm fuzziness that seems to wrap around them both.
He lets his eyes drop closed again and leans a little more into the kiss. There’s a hum of contentment and this time he knows it's come from him.
He wanted for so long and now finally he’s exactly where he wants to be.
To me it’s so glaringly obvious that the “boyfriend” comment could have just as well been a “girlfriend” comment? it’s about being possibly romantically entangled with a (GASP) demon, as an angel. that’s unheard of, them even being friendly is looked down upon from both sides. FFS it’s hell vs heaven! what do you meannnn
i truly don’t understand why people are acting this way. maybe having faced so much sly homophobic jokes that you’re projecting it onto everything that even just includes a gay person.
maybe i’m missing something else entirely that explains this (please do tell my ignorant ass). but if you’re really just referring to that comment and projecting homophobia on it.. i can’t understand.
I don’t know if “you’re projecting homophobia onto this is” is your own take or if you’re just trying to regurgitate Neil’s points as you are in the rest of this ask but that wasn’t what he was saying. He was saying “that’s a societal thing you’re bringing to this as a reader.” If it’s your own take: incredibly bizarre to undercut other people’s interpretation by being like “you guys get called faggots too much in real life” instead of engaging with them in good faith.
Assuming you actually sent this in good faith and you’re open to an explanation: no one is arguing that the angels were literally being homophobic to aziraphale within the universe of good omens. But good omens is, in part, a story about rigid systems/dogma and specifically how the two main characters can’t be together because of it. They even have them meeting secretly in England when homosexuality is illegal and have aziraphale basically say it would be too dangerous to continue their relationship. Against that backdrop: having heaven (the side associated with religion) treat aziraphale’s relationship with demon as something forbidden reads as a metaphor for homophobia. This is strengthened by the fact that they both read as gay men.
We are laughing because it is incredibly silly for the author to say “no they weren’t being homophobic they were being demon-phobic” and not even show any understanding of deeper meaning in the work.
OK this is gonna be some Good Omens meta with implied Good Omens 2 spoilers and Good Omens 3 speculation so please feel free to scroll on but...
I've seen people talk about how much they dislike the idea of Crowley and Aziraphale ending the series as humans and lemme tell you I am RIGHT there with you. Not only because it would condemn them to infinitely shortened lives, but also because it does nothing to solve the structural problems inherent to Heaven and Hell. Like, yes, it would free the two of them from those systems (until they died?) but if the systems remain in place with the continued power to harm those who work within them, is that really a happy ending?
Idk HOW we can dismantle these toxic systems (it's not my job to know) but sometimes I think about the total destruction of Heaven and Hell and the building of a secret third thing where angels and demons are reintegrated with one another in a reflection of the multiple times the Book says that the two sides are basically indistinguishable just by looking. I think about angels and demons having to face one another and millennia-old resentments head-on, not through war but through communication. The angels could express how betrayed they felt when the demons rebelled, when the angels were stuck being Good, and the demons could vent about how much it hurt to have their friends take up arms against them for the sin of questioning God. I think about the two groups having real conversations for the first time in more than 6000 years in this shared space and coming out on the other side a single group. Not because the angels have Fallen or because the demons have been Redeemed but because they've all found ways to forgive one another.
(What this would mean for the cosmology of the blessed and the damned souls of dead humans, idk. Maybe the new Afterlife would implement a system of reincarnation built on the foundation that at the end of the day everybody is just trying their best with what they have?)
Point is, I don't think AziraCrow can be really safe & happy together until their "sides" no longer see the other as the enemy. The Heaven/Hell divide will always be a barrier, harmful not only to our duo but to everyone involved, from the lowest angel to the highest demon. I guess what I'm saying is, the idea of AziraCrow deciding to escape the Heaven/Hell divide by becoming human is a lot less satisfying to me than the idea of them leading the charge to mend the wounds that caused that divide and becoming Something New, together.
Oh also Jesus is there? Maybe They can be the moderator.
so. i saw the second season again. and im getting increasingly more and more convinced that metatron is the culprit in everything going to hell at the end of ep6
im not saying the two dont have a communication issue (if you pay attention to it then its obnoxiously obvious that my god! they really just dont tell each other shit)
but metatron has these moments in the episode where
- he talks about "a prince of heaven" being cast out and how it makes a good story
- he was present during gabriels (attempted) memory wipe
- he looks Very pointedly at crowley when he sees him while standing in line in front of the coffee shop
- the condescending tone he addresses crowley with when asking him if he knows him (i mean crowley is still a demon but idk it still stuck with me)
- the Look over his shoulder he gives crowley when walking out with aziraphale (bad omens. this is the bad omens now)
- the whole coffee business (could be a number of things - poison, to gain aziraphales trust, a prop, list could go on)
- how the first (and only, really) thing metatron did was locate crowley, get aziraphale to talk to him and separate the two..
- ..and subsequently very subtly pit them against each other basically
- he said that "gabriel hadnt worked out" which could be nothing but is just suspicious given the way heaven is well. a cult in which you wont really "work" if you start thinking for yourself
- the "go on, go tell your friend the good news"
- he encourages aziraphales decision, says that crowley "always did want to go his own way"
- he does Not give any room to aziraphale for him to change his mind
- he says to aziraphale that he needs "an angel of his talents" and someone who "knows how they do things on earth" on the way to the lift (again. bad omens. unwell omens)
+ it still bothers me how none of the angels present, michael or uriel or sahaquiel, or aziraphale (he spoke to him in s1? maybe he just didnt speak up because he wasnt asked? idk) recognised metatron. only crowley knows/remembers metatron and metatron seems to be Keenly aware of crowley
tldr i should have put at the beginning is that right now im gonna go with the theory that metatron (more or less solely) wanted to separate crowley and aziraphale because one) they are too powerful together and he doesnt want them to fully figure that out, and/or two) wants to manipulate and use aziraphale for the "second coming" plan, whatever that is, and/or three) hes a cunt looking for an interesting and exciting story for his own amusement
#good omens s2 spoilers#good omens spoilers#good omens#good omens 2 theory#im getting biased by spns metatron in this lmao#unless.#man. if it turns out that this all was a combination of the twos horrible communication And aziraphale having been messed with? its g-#its gonna make this Even sadder. bcuz like. may they would have figured it out.#poor crowley put his entire heart and sould into that confession. so brave. so vulnerable. so strong. i do think it would have worked.#i do think it would have made them start talking finally.#but herE WE ARE I GUESS
Good Omens Review: Saving Crowley from Hell
It's true that Aziraphale needs Crowley, and he wants the two of them to fix Heaven together, defeat Hell together, and protect Humanity together from Heaven…
It could be said that it is a sweet and innocent dream, but as naive as it is cruel for Crowley…
But before I get to that part, I want to point out that Aziraphale knows that Crowley has been in constant mortal danger thanks to Hell: During Season 1 Crowley never stops stressing what Hell would do to him if Hell found out their relationship or that he has been actively working against the apocalypse or even how they would punish him simply for being "nice", to the point that Crowley asked Aziraphale for holy water (Which is considered a BIG DEAL for demons) just for his safety, and in season 2 we see that's true when Crowley is basically kidnapped by Hell in front of Aziraphale without him being able to do anything to stop it…
Knowing this, is it so strange that Aziraphale wanted to take Crowley out of Hell and turn him into an angel that belongs to Heaven?
Of course not, but something that Aziraphale still doesn't get about Crowley, is that if you give Crowley a choice between Earth and Hell, he would choose Earth, and the same thing if he chooses between Earth and Heaven, BUT if you give him to choose Crowley between Heaven and Hell, CROWLEY WOULD CHOOSE HELL.
And not because he likes Hell (Which isn´t the case) or that Hell's ideals resemble his own (Which is absolutely NOT the case lol), but because he would rather be in Hell than go back to Heaven, HE PREFERS TO BE A DEMON THAN TO BE AN ANGEL AGAIN.
After all, at least you can't FALL if you're already DOWN, right?
That's why for Crowley, Earth is his "oasis" between two incredibly bad and painful choices, for him humanity together with Aziraphale is "his side" and what matters most to him in his life…
That's why it was so cruel that Aziraphale personally asked him to leave Earth to go to Heaven, because that's the only thing Crowley can't give Aziraphale, to be an angel again…
And Aziraphale has yet to understand that Heaven hurt Crowley so much, that Crowley would rather be in danger and loneliness than go back there…
What do you think of my analysis?
No hate to anyone but genuinely if you really really hated the end of Good Omens 2, then I think you don’t understand Azriaphale.
The ending of Good Omens 2 is a sad ending, I doubt anyone wanted it to end like that, but it’s not a bad ending because it makes sense. Azriaphale and Crowely are not on the same level character development wise and therefore are not compatible for a relationship as is. They like each other yeah but Crowley has been on his own side basically since the garden and Azriaphale left heaven recently and even then didn’t really leave. For Crowley it’s very easy to just abandon both sides. Heaven kicked him out and well Hell is Hell. For Azriaphale however he’s yet to really have a *bad* experience with heaven. It’s not like he was there when Heaven tried to kill him and even then trying to kill him is perfectly rational since he did go against the rules and the plan. Heaven is the “good guys” and really what has Azriaphale gone through to actually, genuinely make him see that Heaven is as flawed as Hell? The answer is nothing really. He’s had a lot of little moments that could easily build into that realization but nothing that’s really happened to him.
And hey guys guess what, an angel can’t exactly date a demon when said angel is still trying to believe in the superiority of Heaven. That’s doesn’t seem very healthy relationship to me. That feels like a thing that would lead to a scene where given the opportunity said angel would try to get the demon to be an angel again AND GUESS HOW SEASON TWO ENDS!!
You can’t exactly do a nice and healthy romance when you can’t accept the other person completely as they are.
I’ve given up trying to be short about this so actually I’m not going to talk about the parallels of the other two relationships in season two.
Gabriel and Beelzebub work as a great little relationship because they look past the whole demon/angel thing and just are into each other as they are. They both see the issues in both their organizations, literally bonding over being overworked, and just fully see each other as each other. Not as what they are, just who.
Nina is obviously the Crowely stand in and Maggie is the Azriaphale, but that’s only in design. When it comes to relationship role Nina is actually the Azriaphale while Maggie is the Crowley. Nina has a toxic relationship she can’t let go of holding her back from being with someone better for her. Azriaphale refuses to let go of Heaven and because of that he can’t just be with Crowley. Of course he goes back to Heaven no hesitation because that’s *heaven* and he’s not over heaven!
Just a little extra note, mostly for myself, the only time I ever read that Azriaphale as actively pinning, and I mean full on in love not some puppy crush bullshit, for Crowley is during that little pre-fall Heaven flashback. Just look at his face when he looks at angel Crowley, man is so smitten. And then his affection takes a dive bomb once Crowley starts asking questions. And how just kinda fucked up is that? Crowely doesn’t care at all for this angel who just popped by, he is however very into the stars he just made, and the way Azriaphale looks at him during that little exchange kills me completely, I am dead writing this.
Basically in conclusion, for them to be happy Azriaphale needs to realize Heaven sucks and move on with his life. Thank you and good night.
#i found this in my drafts#ough#i didn’t realize I cared this much lol#character arcs 🤝 media literacy#<— things I care about#gotta say fuck that ending if it was the actual end of the show#can’t wait for season 3#good omens#good omens rant#crowley#aziraphale#good omens spoilers#ooo like one more thing#the Azriaphale/Crowley relationship to me is like two gay guys being into each other but one is homophobic and then everyone is shook that#that causes problems for a gay relationship#long post#rant post
Some Good Omens Head Canons (because it's more meta and shippy shit. s/o to @v0litioncheck as usual cos when it comes to the shippier things, I don't know who struck the iron first.
— 6000 years of pining is cute and all and I guess Neil canonized it (as much as he ever will canonize anything) in season two, but idek idek idek, I think it's much more meaningful if they've been together. It even works in the first season and to a lesser degree, book (the question will always be if it was intended to imply a deeper intimacy between them and while I say yes, absolutely, idek, I think I'm a little biased). I'd even argue that it's some of the most normalized queer representation I've seen in recent memory. Because you know, we've seen stories with straight couples where it's just a given they're together and they're intimate in small ways aside from kissing. Touches, looks, the way they talk to each other, tones, pet names, inside jokes, familiarity, which you know, I think are much more organic building blocks to portraying a relationship than y'know kissing and sex scenes (not that I wouldn't have welcomed more explicit intimacy, but the point is that the quieter gestures paint a satisfying tapestry of two characters that are very much in love and have been together for a very long time. Perhaps this internal interpretation of their closeness is why season 2 didn't sit right with me in the end because I feel like it's trying to have it's cake (shippy, romantic fan service that could easily fall in line with the assumption that they're basically married) and eat it too (imply they're actually mutually pining for each other but incapable of communicating that desire which...idek man, that's a pretty hard pill to swallow with how goddamned old they are).
— Demons and angels have a distinctly nonlinear understanding of time and history. I think it's part of the joke of their anachronism in any given time period, but I also think it's serious meta due to an aside in the book about the gift of prophesy and how it interacts with humans. I think it was basically like they were tapping into something but it got scrambled up in their brains most the time. Honestly I think it's the same way for Crowley and Aziraphale, but they're more capable of dealing with it, but maybe not considering Aziraphale's distractable and slightly dotty and Crowley's not that much better. They're both very, very smart, with the wisdom of age on their side but also I mean, they're processing so much information at any given time.
— The reason Aziraphale hasn't fallen despite being in love with a demon, his own hedonistic tendencies, and lying to his boss(es) is because The Fall was a one time thing and part of the Great Plan. After all, you can't have good and evil without the language to express the concepts. God is omniscient but Her ineffability comes in Her silences over certain matters. Let them believe the war was about rebellion and not some cruel twist in testing and toying with her creations. (I also think it's why Az's punishment for conspiring against heaven was death instead of being cast out, although that could lend entirely to Gabriel's temperament than God's will.) Personally, I think God checked out some time after the whole Jesus situation, and is more comparable to an absent, low effort CEO that's taking meetings on Skype or Zoom every few month from their villa in Tahiti.
— So, the point of this impending ramble about supernatural creatures in a body capable of experiencing sensuality, is that I do believe Crowley and Aziraphale are horny for each other. They lust after each other. They fuuuuuuck. Is this natural for either of them? Not really, but I think there are layers to the idea that they've "gone native". It's not just that they drive fast, wear clothing, dress aesthetically, learn slang, learn technology, and eat food/get drunk. They convey emotions, they enjoy frivolities to their kind like sleeping and reading for pleasure. The feeling you get from their kin is that they're driven by purpose rather than any real personal motivation. I do think it took them time (kinda, sorta) to recognize their desires and understand their feelings. They were relatively new beings poured into material forms with hormones and feelings, which I think was probably a lot. Like, yeah if they were incorporeal beings, intimacy would look a lot different, but they're not. They got bodies. (Also I'm a sucker for articulating soulmates with eroticism, so sue me.)
— Honestly, one of my favourite GO thing is the implication that the dichotomy of Good and Evil are less moral compasses and more like rivaling corporations. There are so many interesting components to that idea that just fuels half of my head canons. I like the urban fantasy aspect of it to, but I'm just...I'm just a sucker for the visual language and the anachronistic bits of them talking about licensing, paperwork, invoices, lying in progress reports in the context of miracles and divine/infernal influence on humanity. God, that's so good.
...............................................................as a tangent, that's another thing that frustrates me about season two. Have I mentioned this? Probably, but whatever, we're going to whine about it again anyway. Because I reeeeeaaaaaalllllllly get why they changed the ending of s1 to make it more dynamic. Fine. Great. The book ending I think is more cohesive to the overall story, but I totally get how it would play as anticlimactic in the visual medium. The issue is that s1 ends with this massive, glorious hoodwink, which...is never really addressed like? Did anyone in Heaven or Hell figure out their little trick? If not why don't they treat Aziraphale and Crowley as more dangerous? The grand irony of s2 is that it gels better with the end of the book, which was so much more lowkey. *sighs* Maybe it'll come back up in s3, but honestly, it eats at me. (Generally, my head canon fix is that it got lost in the shuffle of bureaucracy and the chaos of trying to shore things back up in the wake of the apocalypse-that-wasn't.)
Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 85
Lucifer Rising/The Last of the Time Lords
I can't believe we're doing two season finales today. What...fun?? Who's to say
"Lucifer Rising"
Plot Description: Sam and Dean prepare for the apocalypse in different ways. Ruby, Lilith, Castiel, and Zachariah appear
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: you know, in 5th grade there was a moment where I was like “I think I’ll become a nun so I never have to get married” (an extremely allo and amatonormative thought to have), but I never did. And therefore I’d never be in the position to be killed like this
It’s not JUST the 11 more seasons that makes me think there is an “after” for Sam and that he’s not changed forever…
Ooo Bobby laying it ALL out. He’s right about most things here, but your family is not SUPPOSED to make you miserable, man…I’m SOBBING. “You’re a better man than your dad ever was. So do us both a favor, don’t be him.”
Castiel, what…where did you take Dean off to??
What in the White House McDonalds meal is this??
Wait. Dean knows about the Suite Life of Zack and Cody??? Why?? This is not a judgement, it’s just…
I don’t like basically knowing what the next line from Zachariah is…when Dean asks why he should have faith in the angels, I said “because you swore to?” Right before Zach goes “because you swore your obedience”
So Dean has no choice but to sit there and wait?? Rude. So he calls Sam 😭 but the voicemail cuts off just as he’s saying he’s sorry?? Why do we keep having technology that cuts out RIGHT BEFORE THE THING THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID GETS SAID
I still don’t trust Ruby
On some level, Sam still knows what he’s doing is wrong. And you can tell that by his very deer in the headlights look when the demon possessing the nurse lets the nurse’s consciousness take over for a bit
Not to be…but like. Sam, this isn’t you. This isn’t your heart
Stop taking away Dean’s free will. He’s not an angel. He was given free will as a bonus to humanity.
This is a far cry from the Sam who, with Dean, wouldn’t let everyone in that police precinct die, nor the one girl who volunteered to be sacrificed for the greater good to stop Lilith.
You know…….I should have seen this “both heaven and hell want the apocalypse to happen.” Not just because I’ve seen this before, but because Good Omens did the exact same thing
Man I hope that security guard doesn’t blink
The weird knowledge gaps angels have cracks me up. There are pop culture references they don’t know, but they DO KNOW how cell phone plans work
Ooo, are Sam and Ruby about to break up?
No. NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO THEY CHANGED DEAN’S VOICEMAIL. THOSE ASSHOLES.
the TRUST Dean has in Cas. That boy swore obedience to ONE angel. Like, yeah, it's in his best interest. Trusting Castiel, who has tried to, wanted to help him in the past, is his only ticket out of this room to go find Sam. But to be startled like that, have have Cas shove you up against a wall, hand over your mouth, Ruby's knife out and inches from your gut, and just the knowing look that as long as you don't make ONE sound, there is a CHANCE you might get out of there. (Look, back in 2011/2012, did I start shipping Destiel because it a little bit bothered my friend who introduced me to the show? yeah, but at the same time, after watching it, I understood why people did. And I was right to)
Omg omg Omg omg omg, I’m connecting the dots of Ruby feeding Sam demon blood and Cas using his blood to rescue Dean, banish Zachariah, stop the apocalypse (Edit later: I haven't connected shit...I was pretty busy the rest of the day)
There's something about Chuck touching Cas's shoulder (knowing who Chuck actually is) as the archangel coming to protect him rages outside, as they're trying to stop the apocalypse from coming.
I knew she couldn’t be trusted. This was a long, long game she was playing…
Not the demon eyes on himmmmmm. Great job, Sam. You broke the last seal…
Ok. I know the story is telling me to absolutely hate Ruby. I know this. And on some level, I do. But holy shit she’s so hot right now. Way better than any other moment she’s been on screen. So unrepentantly evil. She’s giddy about it. She’s so excited. She’s been persecuted for so long by EVERYONE but Lilith because they all thought she was helping the Winchesters. She's been around for two seasons "helping" them. And all this time...and she probably would have been greatly rewarded iiiiiiiiiiiiif she hadn't pissed off the Winchesters and they didn't kill her immediately :/
“Been On My Mind…”: Saby? Rum? broke up so nah, man. 9
"The Last of the Time Lords"
Plot Description: The mighty warships of a new Time Lord Empire arise from the Earth. With the Doctor being held prisoner by thte Master, and the Universe on the brink of war, only Martha Jones can save the human race
A whole YEAR passed since the last episode???
Oh. OH. OHHHHH. I forgot that this is what Martha does this episode. She's on a sort of fetch quest
God...I do love the Jones family. I love them outsmarting the Master. And it's so easy, too. He doesn't even consider them because he's this genius Time Lord and they're merely human...and they know THAT
The whole CGI'd Doctor will never not be creepy
In...in this timeline Bill Gates is dead?
Ok, the Master talking about the drumming reminded me that I realized this morning that there's a beeping my car makes (and I don't know how to trigger it) that has that tempo.
That's....unbelievably horrific. What did the Master DO to those poor humans on Utopia??
It's really interesting to hear the differences in what the Doctor and the Master believe the duty of the Time Lords is. The Master believes it's his right to meddle with time and space however he wants simply because he has the power to. But the Doctor knows it's to hold things in balance and there are certain things you just do not mess with. AND FUCKING PARADOXES IS ONE OF THEM WTF MAN
(Had to look up the actor who plays Thomas Milligan...tell me why the universe has lined up again so that I'm watching an episode with the lead actor for the show Lucifer on the same day I watch the episode that Lucifer is set free in Supernatural??)
THE PROFESSOR IS GOING TO BETRAY MARTHA????
Martha, you deserve to be a legend, too, babes. Sure, the Doctor was born into greatness by being a Time Lord, but YOU. Oh, YOU! He doesn't deserve you
Oh, but even though that professor betrayed her, the people did not...yet she gave herself up anyway. Oh, Thomas. RIP. You were a good guy
OKAY BUT HOW DOES THAT WORK. I knew the gun thing was a red herring, but she still had to do the quite literal legwork. But...why does everyone on Earth just THINKING the word Doctor at that one time reverse what the Master did to him??
I'm sorry, you did WHAT NOW??
Ayo, did they lose the rights to use "I Can't Decide" by the Scissor Sisters?? Because I remember THAT being used in these episodes, but I haven't heard it ONCE. There's not enough time/story left in this one. Right??
I think it would have been more interesting to not let time reverse? And have to live with the consequences of what happened? Rebuild from there? Then again, that would probably mean that Donna would be a very earthbound companion, she wouldn't get to meet Agatha Christie or anything. So, it's probably best. Maybe? Anyway...
This scene though...where the Master refuses to regenerate. I can't imagine how it would feel to discover that you aren't the last of your species, your near immortal species, the species you wiped out yourself, only for the only other one to be your old friend, your rival, but he'd rather DIE than spend any more time with you. And on the flip side, to be brought back into consciousness of who you really are, who you believe you were meant to be, and then to be told that your one chance at living is as at best a pet? and at worst a prisoner? Just an eternity of THAT? You can hardly blame him for not wanting to go on...(Ohhhhhhhhh, there's probably some good todobros angsty shit I could dig out of this...)
What is it with these BBC shows having diametrically opposed yet equal in every way rivals? And having the evil one die to cause IMMENSE PAIN to the good one?
And AGAIN!!! Like, that was episode TWO of season ONE. JUST LONG GAMES ALL AROUND. Yeah, the Face of Boe identity reveal is no longer a surprise for me in 2023, but...it's just weird how these two episodes were put together so beautifully
Ohhhh, he wants to take Martha to meet Agatha Christie, but Martha's about to tell him she's staying home. (This does shed new, sadder light on the "great big outer space dunce" moment next season. He didn't appreciate Martha as much as he should have, but he learned and gushed all his feelings to Donna how he appreciates her and how her friendship has meant the world to him....when she's telling him she's just gonna pop home to say hi)
Martha <3 It's sad to see her go, but knowing she comes back (and I think a couple times next season?) eases the pain
Prompt: unfallen Crowley (idc if Raphael headcanon or not) has a higher ranking than aziraphale in heaven. Slowly falls in love with aziraphale through the ages, but weird dynamic because of rank. Aziraphale much worse at lying to Gabriel with no demon to learn from. Gabriel has little “punishments” for Aziraphale if he messes up a miracle. Crowley doesn’t know until he finds Aziraphale delirious with exhaustion after trying to do enough miracles to make up for fudging one. Please angst.
i gotchu anon i am here for the angst but also i am a sucker for happy endings let these boys be happy ok
honestly, i waver back and forth on raphael hc, because i absolutely love the idea, but at the same time, it’s nice to think that crowley was a no-one in heaven and is a no-one in hell and still manages to fuck up all their plans; so anyway, i left it up to interpretation and just refer to him as “crowley” because i can because maybe it’s just the name he chose to blend in with humans because his angel name is a bit too obvious? reader’s choice 👍
long boi here because i found myself thinking that i could write an entire novel-length fanfic about this. perhaps one day…
--
Aziraphale stumbled into his bookshop, only remembering to lock the door behind him at the very last moment before very nearly tripping into the armchair across the shop. He put a hand on his head and tried to get his eyes to focus on something, but was a little surprised to find that he seemed to have two - no, three - desks, and rather more bookshelves than he seemed to remember having installed. The word exhausted came to mind, but he wasn’t really sure what to do with it.
“Aziraphale, is that you?” came a voice descending the stairs. “Thought I heard you come in, expected you’d be back some time ago, been waiting--- Aziraphale?”
“Oh, yes, hello,” Aziraphale said in a cheery but slightly slurred voice. “Yes, I’m back.”
Crowley dropped the cups of tea he was holding; they forgot to shatter, and simply landed upright on the floor. He rushed over to the other angel and took Aziraphale’s face in his hands. “What happened?” he asked urgently, his thumb rubbing against Aziraphale’s cheek.
“S’nothing,” Aziraphale slurred.
“You’re bleeding,” Crowley said, his voice a little sharper than he’d meant it.
“M’not.”
Crowley took his hand back and showed it to Aziraphale; there was gold staining his thumb and palm. “You’re bleeding from your eyes, what happened?”
“S--- s’nothing,” he mumbled, swatting Crowley’s three hands away. That didn't seem like the right number of hands.
Crowley didn’t relent, wiping up more of the shining blood-tears with a frown. In a low, almost dangerous tone, he asked, “Did someone hurt you?”
It had been just over three thousand years that Crowley had been stationed on Earth with Aziraphale. At first, he had thought it was a punishment for something he’d done, or maybe someone had heard him asking too many questions. He was assured that no, he’d done nothing wrong, and that the angel Aziraphale simply required extra assistance and/or oversight from someone of higher rank, and that Crowley would be quite good for the job.
At first, he’d found Aziraphale to be a bit too by-the-book and uptight. But over the centuries, Crowley found himself becoming rather fond of the other angel; still by-the-book and uptight, but instead of annoying, these characteristics became endearing. They would argue regularly; at first, Crowley’s exasperation could get overwhelming, but these days, he found himself smiling, even while shooting down another of Aziraphale’s ridiculous ideas.
And lately, he had found himself not even arguing.
“No,” Aziraphale said as firmly as he could manage (which was with all the firmness of yogurt).
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I-it wasn’t--- it was-was me, I-I had to---”
“You had to what?”
Aziraphale frowned, dropping his eyes; he had been a little confused as to why Crowley had decided to have two heads this evening, anyway. “M-make up for a mistake,” he mumbled.
Crowley sighed, and wiped away the last few streaks of gold down Aziraphale’s cheeks; he didn’t much like the sound of that, but wasn’t willing to push too hard while the other angel was nearly delirious. “Okay, here, it’s all right, you’re home now. You should lie down, can you get upstairs?”
Aziraphale shifted and tried to stand, but collapsed right back into the chair. He chuckled weakly and closed his eyes. “M’fraid not.”
“Okay,” Crowley said, taking a deep breath. “That’s all right, just stay here, I’ll make you some--- tea, some tea,” he muttered distractedly, looking around. “Ah, yes.” He picked up the two mugs from where they were waiting, and pressed one into Aziraphale’s hands, refusing to let him not take it. Crowley sat down on the floor, resting his arms on Aziraphale’s legs to keep an eye on the other. “It’s chamomile,” he said when Aziraphale just sat in silence with his eyes closed.
“Your chamomile?” Aziraphale’s voice was soft, and a little cracked, as if it was coming from somewhere deep in his chest and had to climb out of a fresh grave.
“Mmhm,” Crowley confirmed, nudging Aziraphale’s hand a bit with his own. “Your favorite.”
Aziraphale’s lips twitched, and he hummed a little, but still didn’t lift the mug.
Crowley could remember the day he realized the difference between his usual feelings of angelic love and the warmth of the encompassing love he felt for Aziraphale. It had been a few centuries ago, when Crowley had first taken up gardening. He had purchased a tea plant, and spent an afternoon researching how to care for, harvest, dry, and brew it all properly - only to realize that he had done all of this simply because he wanted to make a proper cup of tea for Aziraphale.
Their ranks made it all rather difficult, though; consorting with subordinates was generally frowned upon. So Crowley kept his realizations to himself; rule-following Aziraphale certainly wouldn’t be interested, anyway.
“Try it,” Crowley said gently, nudging Aziraphale’s hand again. “It’ll help.”
Aziraphale swallowed, and shakily lifted the mug to his lips. “Smells lovely,” he managed, taking the smallest of sips. “Mm.” But it really did seem to help, because he took a second sip before lowering his arm again. His hand bumped against Crowley’s. Neither of them shifted to change that. He took a deep breath, and opened his eyes. Concern was etched in every corner of Crowley’s face. “Hello, my dear,” Aziraphale said, touching his cheek with a little smile.
Crowley relaxed, if only a little. “Told you it would help. Keep drinking. Can you tell me what happened? I can’t heal you if I don’t know what happened. Please.”
“Oh, no, none of that is necessary,” Aziraphale assured him, taking another sip. “Mm, it really is quite good.”
“Aziraphale.”
“There’s nothing to heal,” Azirphale said gently, “because it’s just exhaustion. No injuries.”
“What in God’s name---”
“Really now---”
“---have you done to get yourself so bloody exhausted?” Crowley ignored the interruption; he’d blaspheme if he felt like it. It wasn’t the first time, and he hadn’t Fallen yet. “You must have had to do a thousand bloody miracles in an hour to bleed from your eyes.”
“Well,” Aziraphale said, avoiding his gaze, “it was closer to four hundred, I think, but---”
“Four hundred in an hour?” Crowley interjected. “What the--- why?”
But it seemed like Aziraphale couldn’t answer. He looked into his tea for a moment, then took a few more sips. “I’ll be quite all right,” he said with his best attempt at assurance. “So really, the tea was lovely, but---”
“Aziraphale.” Crowley set his mug down and rose up to his knees to hold the other’s face again. “Why won’t you tell me what happened?”
Bright blue eyes looked at him, and Crowley waited. He waited as the seconds stretched into minutes. He was quite prepared to wait if the minutes wanted to stretch right on into hours as well. But then Aziraphale’s face fell, and tears - real tears - began welling in his eyes; he couldn’t keep this up any longer. “I messed up a blessing,” he whispered. “A-and Gabriel--- well, he said I’d have to fix it, so-so I tried, I tried to fix it all, a-and---” He took a great, shuddering breath, and Crowley stood without thinking in order to hold him as he broke down. Aziraphale clutched onto him, sobbing into his chest.
“Sh,” Crowley murmured, stroking his hair. “It’s all right, you’re all right. S’just us here, and I’ll take care of you. You’ll be all right.”
While his hands and voice were as gentle as ever, anger was boiling inside of him. Vitriolic, unadulterated anger. He knew Aziraphale might not always be the best with the blessings and big miracles, but to punish him like this? To push him to the point of near-discorporation? If his desire to nurse Aziraphale back to health hadn’t been so strong, he would have teleported straight to heaven in that instant and had a word with Gabriel. Several words. And probably a few punches, as well.
“I’m sorry,” Aziraphale managed a few minutes later, hiccuping slightly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to--- and it’s such a nice shirt---”
Crowley didn’t let him go. “It’s fine,” he assured him. “It’s just a shirt.”
“I-I think there was--- just a bit more blood---”
“Just a shirt,” Crowley said again firmly. Then he sighed. He had hugged Aziraphale before, had held him while he cried. And every time, it brought about these terribly conflicting emotions. Oh, he’d do anything for Aziraphale; but just once, he wanted to hold him when he wasn’t crying. “Are you feeling all right?”
Aziraphale hummed confirmation. His hands were still gripping the back of Crowley’s shirt, and he hadn’t fully lifted his head. “Much better. Think I just… needed to get that out. Thank you,” he mumbled. “I-I know it’s just tea, and… and watching me cry, but. But you always take care of me. Always. And you do it so well. Thank you.”
“Mmn yeah, well.” Crowley felt himself frowning, and was glad Aziraphale couldn’t see it. “What else are friends for?”
“Hmm.” Aziraphale shifted slightly, and put the side of his head against Crowley’s chest. “Mm yes, friends.”
“What’s that tone for?”
“What tone?”
“Doubt, there was doubt in your voice. You don’t think you’re my friend?”
“I don’t think I’m just a friend, my dear.”
Crowley’s heart skipped an unnecessary beat, and he tried to pull back; but Aziraphale kept him held tight. “What are you talking about?” Crowley muttered, feeling heat creep up his neck.
“I can hear it, you know,” Aziraphale said, tilting his head slightly to indicate the ear pressed over Crowley’s heart. “I always can when you hold me. And it’s so very comforting.”
“You’re--- you’re feverish, don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t I?” Aziraphale pulled back and smiled up at Crowley. “I am feeling a bit warm, I think, but I also know what love sounds like.”
“Course you do, we’re angels.”
“All kinds of love, my dear.” He tapped Crowley’s chest. “And that is not the same love you have for the world around us.”
Crowley was flustered. “Look, you’re clearly feeling better, so let’s get you up to your bed so you can lie down, all right? Maybe even sleep off the rest of this--- this--- whatever this is.”
Aziraphale giggled a little and let Crowley pull him to his feet. They didn’t speak as they made their way upstairs and to the bedroom, where Aziraphale shed his shoes, jacket, and waistcoat before collapsing into the pillows. He lay still for a moment - Crowley collected the discarded clothes and laid them out for whenever Aziraphale awoke - but finally turned to look at the redhead. “Can I hear it again?” he asked.
“Hear what?”
Aziraphale made a grabbing motion with his hands, and Crowley found himself drifting over to him as if magnetized. “I know you can’t say it out loud, so let me hear it from your heart,” Aziraphale murmured, taking Crowley’s wrist when he got close enough and tugging him down onto the bed.
“Aziraphale, I-I don’t---” But his protests died in his throat as Aziraphale pushed him down against the pillows and shifted to lay down with his head on Crowley’s chest. To his credit, Crowley showed an admirable effort in keeping himself composed.
“It’s really quite lovely,” Aziraphale said, then yawned. “I wish you’d let me hear it more often.”
Hesitantly, Crowley wrapped an arm around Aziraphale; the sleepy angel smiled, so Crowley added his other arm. “How long have you known?” he whispered.
“Long enough.” Aziraphale’s eyes fluttered closed. “Did you think you were hiding it?”
“I’d hoped I was.”
“No such luck, I’m afraid.” His voice was starting to drift. “Don’t worry. It’ll be our secret.”
“Our,” Crowley repeated, and couldn’t help but smile just a little. “No more secrets from me, though, understand? Next time Gabriel gets on your case, you tell me, agreed? Otherwise, I’ll not let you hear this again.”
“Bit unfair.”
“Agreed?”
“Mmmnh yes, all right. Agreed.”
Crowley ran his fingers through Aziraphale’s hair and stroked his back until he fell properly asleep to the steady rhythm of I love you beating between them.
OKAY OKAY IKAY so basically when I say good omens Inspired I mean like. The characterization of how the demons n angels work, the stuff with a demon and an angel being friends over human history, them falling jn love w humanity, stuff with Armageddon, etc is all literally the same. BUT. Small changes. For fun
For example: Tubbo is specifically a Sloth Demon(the sin, not the animal, he is a goaty baby). He specializes in slow burn corruption of humanity and is sent by Hell on long term, multi year long missions to corrupt people by influencing them towards apathy, laziness, and a general disregard for themselves or those they're responsible for. He can also make people very very eepy tired. Boys has mirmmirmirmir aura and sings one mean lullaby.
Ranboo, meanwhile, works at a radio station instead of a bookshop. He lives with Tubbo in a dorm room on a followed campus. Heaven and Hell are under the impression the two are serving as spies against one another. In reality, they're both living in the same space mostly out of convience...and also because they're very attached to a 20ish year old chommy who is justTommy. Just humqn. Yeah :).
lainey have i ever told you about my good omens inspired demon!ctubbo and angel!cranboo au. would you like to hear about my good omens inspired demon!ctubbo and angel!cranboo au
NO OMG do tell pleaseee
Hey guys want a Good Omens au? No? I’m sorry you’re still getting one anyways.
-Schlatt and Wilbur are the angel and demon respectively. This is mainly because I like expectations to be shattered and I like to see how that dynamic would work out.
-Schlatt and Wilbur are at the beginning looking over the chaos that they accidentally caused in the Garden of Eden. Schlatt may have indirectly caused the humans to eat the apple. Wilbur may have accidentally gave the humans a flaming sword for protection thinking that they would go and kill each other for it.
-History got it wrong and the humans thought Schlatt was the demon while Wilbur was the angel.
-Schlatt goes and causes good by being a scamming business man, claiming that if he is bad, than other people would be pushed to do good and stand up against him. Leading to more good people and deeds.
-Wilbur causes chaos by being his old normal self of singing songs and saying cryptic things and looking on the bright sides. He claims that it works because then he would be causing people to ignore the bad in the world, thus they are committing the crime of ignorance in the world.
-They are technically higher ups in the angel and demon world, basically the bosses. They just tell everyone that they’re on important angel/demon business so that they can spend more time on Earth
-Quackity is an angel and Fundy is a demon. They both are the right hand man of their respective bosses. They may also go and sneak down to Earth a lot and meet up but no one needs to know that.
-Both groups come up with increasingly ridiculous excuses to have it so that they won’t get smited for fraternizing with the enemy.
-Schlatt and Wilbur forgotten that the whole end of the world is supposed to happen until Quackity and Fundy reminded them of it.
-Those two panic because Fundy is delivering the god damn antichrist to the Satanic Nuns and the end of the world is going to happen if they don’t do anything.
-So they came up with the brilliant plan to raise the Antichrist themselves
-Unfortunately so did Fundy and Quackity.
-The babies all get misplaced and now both groups got the wrong AntiChrist.
-They are such disasters, help them.
-Schlatt and Wilbur got Tommy, while Fundy and Quackity got Tubbo.
-The actual antichrist is Ranboo
-Phil and Techno had to help raise Tommy, while Eret helped raise Tubbo
-Niki and Ranboo are siblings :]
not sure how much the mcyt and good omens fandoms intersect but consider: good omens au with the happyduo as crowley/aziraphale
(disclaimer: a lot of “religious” talk ahead but know that good omens is religious satire and none of this is serious)
(disclaimer 2: i’m a fan of the good omens book, radio series, and tv series, but i’m a bit more knowledgeable about the book/radio canon so if there r any inconsistencies that is why)
now, your first instinct may be to put bad as aziraphale and skeppy as crowley cause of their personalities, but personally, i think it’s more interesting to go according to dsmp canon where bad is a demon:
skeppy as aziraphale, an angel tasked with serving humanity, praised for his work on earth - secretly has a mischievous and hedonistic streak a mile wide. significantly less “nice” than he seems on paper in his 90% bs reports. head office (heaven) is distant, giving him freer rein than bad. owns a bookshop but refuses to sell any books and will make active efforts to kick people out if they try. was the original guardian of the eastern gate of the garden of eden, but gave his flaming sword away to eve, effectively creating the concept of war.
badboyhalo as crowley, a demon with a penchant for good alcohol and a soft spot for humans despite his orders to cause misery on earth. likes to play minor pranks (shutting down cell lines in the city, gluing coins to the ground) but really, really hates having to actually hurt people. can transform into a snake at will, and was the serpent in eden who gave eve the apple, granting humanity its free will. uses his snake form to help skeppy scare people out of the bookshop.
the two met in the garden and were enemies at first (opposing sides or whatever 🙄). they spent a lot of time throughout early history trying to trip each other up, as they were both stationed on earth as the go-betweens between earth and their respective sides
they realized that they were basically cancelling each other’s good/evil influence out and the same effect could be achieved by not doing anything at all so they became business partners in the early 1000s AD
they often switch assignments, get drunk together in the back room of skeppy’s bookstore, and feed ducks in the nearby park.
in the 2000s, bad is tasked with switching out the antichrist for a regular baby at a hospital and that’s how he finds out that the apocalypse is coming.
the two accidentally spend 11 years raising who they THINK is the antichrist (sapnap) but is actually just some random kid.... they get attached anyways
in the process they end up working together a lot more frequently and realize just how much they value each other along the way <3
and regardless of how you assign az/crow:
sapnap as warlock - bad and skeppy think he’s the antichrist, and raise him trying to ensure he isn’t good/evil enough to tip the scales in favor of either side. however, due to a mix-up at the hospital where warlock was born, sapnap is just a completely normal boy, albeit a bit more destructive than most.
dream as adam - the actual antichrist with reality-warping powers. as he grows, he struggles against his infernal heritage calling for him to destroy humanity; but in the end, it isn’t heaven or hell that convinces him to stop the apocalypse, but his human nature.
puffy as anathema device - a witch raised on prophecy, with full knowledge of the impending apocalypse who befriends dream and ends up joining forces with skeppy and bad
if anyone has any other ideas for this au PLEASE talk to me i would love to know
Why Chemistry is Important
tl:dr give your characters reasons to be together and show it
Okay, yes, I do mostly platonic prompts and yes I'm one of the least qualified people to comment on this, but chemistry is very important for characters whether they're in a relationship or not. Some of the stuff in here is going to be my opinion but-
I don't really ship Solangelo. Like I'm not against it, it's just one of those ships I'm completely indifferent about and would and have written them breaking up due to things. Part of this is because I don't really get to see any of their chemistry together, and what is there honestly doesn't vibe well with me.
On the other hand Aziraphale and Crowley? I was like 50 pages into Good Omens and I was hooked. They had good chemistry together.
You shouldn't really go, these two are in a relationship together without giving them reasons or compatibility. And this is especially true when you're putting characters together,
For instance, season 2 Young Justice has Megan dating La'gaan. And everyone hated him and that ship. And they permanently ruined the nickname angelfish for anything else.
When the only memorable trait of a ship I can remember is something like yelling about taking better care of himself vs these two feed ducks at a pond and a demon makes one sink and the angel sighs- Oh and they also helped raise the 'Anti-Christ'- And they've known each other since forever- and they chide each other- and I'm pretty sure they both pay the same person to do work for them
There's a large difference in the amount of things I remember that involve Aziraphale and Crowley vs Nico and Will. Granted I haven't fully read the Trials of Apollo books, but I haven't even finished Good Omens.
Magnus and Alec had pretty good chemistry. There's insecurity that's actually founded (I'm talking about Nico thinking everyone's avoiding him when he's the one avoiding them). There's glitter, sandalwood, and the "summoning demons is bad" "im pretty sure Im only here because someone summoned a demon"
Magnus and Alex is....ehhhh. It's cute, but I will say it has more chemistry than Solangelo. Mainly I don't like it because uh, Malec and Malex. Although I would let Alex stab me no questions asked.
Blitzstone though, I like that. Good chemistry. They care about each other and are willing to do all sorts of things for each other. Blitz made a tanning booth for an elf. Hearthstone supports Blitz in his fashion endeavors. Also they were Magnus's street dads.
Michael and...Abby? Whoever the love interest from Michael Vey was. I absolutely hate that ship. It's like, oh hey you want to date me? Cool. The most interesting things happened with her character when she was far away from Michael. The only thing I can remember about their relationship was that she's a cheerleader. And considering the fact I can remember most of the kids' powers, the cannibal fork, and the fact that power is produced through man-eating electric rats, that says something.
I forgot what I was going to say, but basically the main difference between the ships I like, usually involve the characters being more than 2-d, i like the relationships to feel layered and, most importantly, earned. And preferably with more than one memorable trait.
(Also Trials of Apollo is pretty much beating a dead horse with another dead horse)
Some more Good Omens Book minutiae
There have already been some good posts highlighting trivia and changes between the book and show (a couple are here and here) so I thought I’d add in some more that might be useful and haven’t been overdone yet. Ones I think are most helpful are bolded!
Crowley can see in the dark (because he’s a demon, not because he’s a snake)
Crowley does eat (and notes that sleeping is enjoyable after a heavy meal), but on at least one canonical occasion Aziraphale takes Crowley’s portion of food for himself (angel food cake, to be exact, and he does it without needing to ask) so infer what you will about how we never see Crowley with food in the show
Crowley does read, or at the very least it mentions him attempting to calm his nerves by reading a novel
Aziraphale learned magic when he took a class in the 1870s taught by famous stage magician John Maskelyne
Aziraphale takes his tea without sugar
Crowley does not like to shapeshift, because he is afraid he’ll forget how to turn back
It’s not terribly clear but somewhat implied that Nanny Ashtoreth and Brother Francis were NOT Crowley and Aziraphale (they reference a ‘team’ working for them) but that the two did exchange and compare notes on Warlock’s progress frequently. So thank Neil and Co. for the screenplay choices. Additionally, Brother Francis never actually did any real gardening, he just miracled everything to look perfect
When Warlock was 6 years old, nanny and gardener left and were replaced by two tutors, Mr. Harrison (evil) and Mr. Cortese (good)
Aziraphale will employ any means “short of actual physical violence” to discourage customers in his bookshop, including unpleasant damp odors and glowering looks to anyone who walks in
That clunky watch Crowley wears was custom-made to have the time in 20 world capitals as well as the time in Hell, which was always “Too Late”, and whose battery burned out years ago but he never noticed so it kept working
In 1653 Aziraphale added his own annotations to the proof sheets of a Bible published by Bilton & Scaggs Publishing (the same as who published the Nice and Accurate Prophecies), adding a bit about losing his flaming sword (basically the dialogue in the scene of the series where God confronts him at the gate in episode 3), and is now known as the Bugger Alle This Bible, one of a special collection of misprinted Bibles Aziraphale is proud to own
Aziraphale does watch films. This includes one documentary about gorillas making nests. He also makes an Exorcist reference.
For 6000 years Aziraphale thought dolphins were fish
Crowley watched Mary Poppins on TV at Christmas one year
Aziraphale buys his clothes, while Crowley manifests them
Anathema refers to Crowley and Aziraphale as “two consenting cycle repairmen” :)
Anathema’s bicycle is named Phaeton
Aziraphale’s bookshop is situated directly next to another bookshop called ‘Intimate Books’ and he occasionally gets confused customers that wrongly come into his shop
Anathema is British, not American, in the book
Adam has an older sister named Sarah
Aziraphale is the first angel to own a computer
After the non-Armageddon, Adam alters reality to send Warlock on a plane to America, because Adam thinks America is a cool and magical place and that Warlock deserves something good. (We do not find out if Warlock’s life improves, only that he liked England because it was ‘a good place to be an American’)
Crowley was so impressed by how diabolically mundane the warranty conditions for computers were that he sent a stack of them down to Hell’s ‘Immortal Souls’ agreement department with a memo saying ‘Learn, guys’
When Crowley trapped Hastur on his answering machine, he considered taking the tape and playing it in his car until it became Freddie Mercury, but he decided even that was taking it too far
While NOT show canon, in the book the combination to Crowley’s safe containing the holy water is 4-0-0-4, the year he “slithered onto this stupid, marvellous planet” (Neil has stated that the combination in the show is meaningless and was the default for the safe they bought)
In the book, it does NOT expressly say that Crowley destroys the plants he deems failures, just that he leaves and returns an hour later with an empty flowerpot
Crowley’s flat contains a bedroom, office, kitchen, lounge, and bathroom, each “forever clean and perfect” because he doesn’t really “live” there, as well as a fridge stocked with gourmet food that never spoils and the fridge isn’t even plugged in
Shadwell believes that Aziraphale is a Russian spy
Crowley and Aziraphale had both visited Shadwell’s apartment exactly once (and Aziraphale was rather disgusted by the state of the place)
In the book (as opposed to the show) Aziraphale is full aware (and nonplussed) that there’s only a 50/50 chance Heaven would win against Hell in Armageddon, and that it doesn’t matter for humans so much anyways because everyone will be killed horribly as civilian casualties during the war itself (a hilarious and very bitchy speech absolutely worth reading, when he possesses Marvin the TV preacher)
The road to Hell isn’t paved with good intentions, rather with frozen door-to-door salesmen, and young demons go ice-skating down it on weekends
Madame Tracy’s real name is Marjorie Potts
Aziraphale has “neat, copperplate” handwriting
Crowley is an optimist
It turns out, Hastur’s murder of the telephone salespeople prevented a Crowley-esque domino effect of thousands of people getting angry from the calls and passing that anger on and on, thus actually spreading a wave of low-level goodness across London
In the book, the M25 wasn’t actually on fire, but rather an inexplicable glowing combination of “pain and dark light” called infra-black, and was both 700 degrees Celsius and -140 at the same time. The Bentley spontaneously combusted when crossing it.
When Crowley meets Aziraphale-as-Tracy, he does say ‘Is that you? Nice dress’ but the TV version added the ‘It suits you.’ However in the book he also says ‘Aren’t you going to introduce me to your new body?’ :)))
When Adam acknowledges Crowley at the airbase, Crowley feels true terror for the first time in his life, because while Hell could make you cease to exist, the Antichrist could make it so you never existed in the first place
When Aziraphale makes the soldier disappear, he actually was transported back to his childhood home in America where his family lives
In the book, to get them both home from Tadfield Crowley steals a Jeep from the airbase
Crowley and Aziraphale are deadass just referred to as ‘the couple with the bottle [of wine]’ one time
There is no body swap scene at the end, because there didn’t need to be; in the book, the stakes of Aziraphale and Crowley’s Arrangement were not nearly as high. A big deal was never made of it, as they were too unimportant to warrant the attention of their superiors. Retribution never came. While they could get in trouble (and Crowley was threatened many times) for defying orders concerning the Apocalypse, little mention was made of their friendship being a crime. Thus, they never had any real reason to deny being friends, and were much more comfortable with their loyalties and each other. This lack of tension marks the biggest divergence between the series and book, and creates a starkly different (and interesting!) dynamic for the characters in the show.
Just me but I get the distinct sense that book Aziraphale and Crowley are already an old bickering married couple and this explains the distinct lack of pining lmao.
Anyway, I hope these were enjoyable or helpful!
i think one of my favorite things about good omens (the tv show), and aziraphale and crowley’s relationship, is how cheesily slow-burn it is. the two of them have been gradually falling in love with each other over 6 millennia of accidental meetings, wiling/thwarting, and clandestine drinks. they’re classic enemies-to-friends-to-lovers: an angel! and a demon!
but good omens the show also has a field day with aziraphale’s apprehensions about the whole thing. from his side of the relationship, aziraphale is continually in flux over whether he really accepts how important crowley is to him.
aziraphale’s development throughout the show is characterized by his ambivalence.
he’s an angel, a servant of god put on earth to do good. that does not include associating with demons on his checklist of holy deeds. repeatedly, aziraphale reasserts his role as the angel, taking shelter behind the straight and narrow that’s expected of him, whenever he feels that that particular sense of his identity is being threatened by his relationship with crowley.
of course, aziraphale then tends to undermine his own assertions.
funnily enough, it’s not the demon trying to play the long game of tempting an angel to fall. it’s the angel playing the long game of dancing the line—trying to maintain the best of both worlds: his identity as an angel, his loyalty to god and heaven; as well as his friendship with crowley.
and let’s be real. crowley has been well-aware of aziraphale’s uncertainty for a long time.
unlike aziraphale, crowley’s not interested in maintaining a healthy allegiance to hell or lucifer in the way that aziraphale continually turns back to heaven, to gabriel, and to god for approval or solutions. he does the bare minimum to keep himself bodily and metaphysically intact—and perhaps glean some personal satisfaction from a job well-done, even if it’s a somewhat malicious job.
after all, the evil deeds that he favors? well...
take hastur and ligur, dukes of hell and model representatives of what the place idealizes. their deeds on the day they deliver the antichrist are tempting a priest with lust and compelling a politician to accept a bribe. hastur gleefully kills a nun and sets a convent on fire, while ligur thinks favorably upon the idea of ripping a person’s right arm off. they’re up close and personal. direct responsibility over the corruption and destruction of individual souls.
crowley doesn’t favor that style. when he corrupts, he doesn’t shove a train off its tracks with his own hands. he creates a highway that radiates waves of general ill will, or shuts down london’s mobile phone network to make everyone just a little bit more irritable. when he acts upon his duties as a demon, crowley doesn’t do any more than any other normal human might encourage as a by-product of living in the same world. his deeds are the equivalent of someone cutting you off in traffic, or your cell signal cutting out from non-occult forces.
he preserves free will. sure, he made your day a bit worse, but really, the only one making the choice of taking that out on the people around you is you.
and don’t ask crowley to kill anyone. because frankly, judging by his distaste for god’s flood, jesus’s crucifixion, being the one to eliminate the antichrist? he’d really rather not.
he gave the paintball competitors real guns but ensured they wouldn’t kill anyone. he set a bucket of holy water on top of his door to kill whichever demon chose to come after him but didn’t put any in his plant mister.
crowley doesn’t have an ounce of real dedication to hell. he was and has only ever been the fallen angel who sauntered vaguely downwards.
so in this, he’s the antithesis to aziraphale’s vacillation. crowley has no ties holding him back from committing fully to a relationship with aziraphale. time and again, crowley is the one who initiates their interactions, who does him favors first, who saves him from discorporation, for no other benefit except companionship. and this frightens aziraphale.
it takes millennia for aziraphale to let down each barrier. and crowley remains patient. he understands his reluctance to leave the welcome arms of heaven behind. even after their 1862 fight in st. james’s park, crowley reappears out of nowhere nearly 80 years later to save aziraphale and his books and rejects the thanks he tries to give. on the day of the apocalypse, aziraphale yells to him that their friendship is over, and crowley still comes back begging him to run away with him to alpha centauri.
but at the same time... crowley refuses to make it easier for aziraphale.
some of his pushback to aziraphale’s generosity can definitely be attributed to difficulties with self-esteem. he’s still done hell’s work, after all, and coming from a place with demotivational posters that are basically depression on paper won’t do wonders for one’s ability to accept compliments.
but being a demon—being a fallen angel—is still central to who crowley is. while he may not hold any loyalty to hell because of it, he’s also not interested in returning to heaven. why would he be, when they cast him down into a pool of boiling sulphur only for asking questions? when they’re just as comfortable as hell with killing innocents and starting wars?
so when the end is nigh, and aziraphale is trying to imply his own solution to saving the both of them...
aziraphale has just gone begging to heaven to put an end to the apocalypse. and they told him no. the war has to be won.
he still doesn’t have the nerve to openly disobey heaven’s commands. and in his certainty that heaven will indeed win if the apocalypse happens, the only option that will allow aziraphale to remain on heaven’s side while preserving crowley’s life is if crowley returns to the host.
this suggestion, though, is not one crowley is willing to take.
a relationship with aziraphale is something crowley deeply values. but he won’t settle for an aziraphale that hasn’t accepted the full ramifications of what that entails—whether it’s the fact that crowley is a demon, full stop, with all the implications therein; or that to love him is reprehensible to heaven.
aziraphale’s blind loyalty to heaven and his relationship with crowley are incompatible, a fact that he’s spent the last 6 millennia ignoring. crowley has been patient, trying to allow aziraphale to come to terms with it in his own time, but aziraphale couldn’t balance the knife’s edge between them forever. as the apocalypse approaches, so too does the conflict in their relationship come to a head.
crowley demands that he make the choice.
and once again, aziraphale chooses heaven’s will over crowley.
it’s only when aziraphale tries to reason with heaven one last time, talking to the voice of god themself, and has utter failure spelled out to him in the sky, that aziraphale finally accepts that heaven has no interest in the compassion and love that he and crowley value so dearly. the choice between heaven and crowley—was never really such a difficult choice after all.
good omens the show is not only a 600k slow-burn between two mortal enemies, it’s a very human tale in which it’s not the demon that struggles with accepting their desire for love and companionship, but the angel. while good omens the book is as fabulous a piece of source material as a show could wish to have, the show is the story that flips the archetypal denial of one’s love on its head. it’s the being of "evil” that offers the outstretched hand and waits patiently for the being of “good” to take it.
aziraphale and crowley face down against their respective superiors together, against lucifer, against holy water and hell fire.
and a nightingale sings in berkeley square.
