based on @nicobear 's recent post (sorry if it's bad i don't usually plan when im writing)
-
It started with a letter. "Good morning," it said. "May your duties run smoothly." Signed by the knight, Sir Lancelot. Sonic looked at the neatly written letter, then the envelope with a perfectly golden wax seal, and back at the letter. All he felt was confusion and a hint of amusement as well. This was… completely unnecessary. He sees Lancelot every day, performing his duties like the obedient knight he was. Why the sudden letter?
Another letter appeared on his desk, now with a beautiful bouquet of lavender. It reminded the king of his rival back home, to no surprise. They were alternates of each other after all, hence their preferences would undoubtedly be similar. Sonic never failed to question the gifts, yet he decided against confronting the knight about them. Lancelot wasn't one to show affection outwardly, so Sonic supposed this was his way of showing it subtly. He smiled at the thought.
Yet another letter, this time during the annual ball – an invitation to dance in the castle gardens. What a lovely surprise. In the midst of greenery with fresh flora where petals, too, twirled and flowed gracefully in the wind, the king danced his worries away with his knight. Sonic felt the gentle touch of Lancelot against his hand as his warmth blessed him from the chilly night wind. The sound of carefree laughter filled the air.
The pair has become closer ever since. No one has ever seen such a reserved knight turn affectionate towards his king within a night. The subtle glances, the intentional brushing whenever they walked close, how Lancelot always seemed to pepper Sonic with soft, tender kisses… Sonic, too, felt strange. It wasn't unwelcomed though.
The dread of Sir Sonic's departure loomed over the kingdom of Camelot. Everyone was aware the day would soon arrive, much to their dismay. Sonic was not the perfect king, but he was truly someone magnificent to return this kingdom to its former glory. His stay was long overdue; it was time for him to leave.
"Here," Sonic spoke as the soft rattling of his gauntlet echoed through their ears. He slipped it off and placed it in Lancelot's hands, curling the knight's fingers as a silent hope to keep it safe. "For you to remember me. In case, y'know, Caliburn ever sleeps again. Treat it as my parting gift."
"Forgetting you is unfathomable," Lancelot replied. For a moment, he was certain his lungs had stopped working. "I will hold this close. Thank you. May we reunite in a distant realm."
"Ah… Don't treat this as a final goodbye, man." A snicker left the hero's lips, a palm resting against the knight's chest, right above his heart. "I'll be back. Don't know when but… I'll visit."
"Of course. For now, however…" Lancelot's words trailed off, swallowing the painful lump in his throat. The time has come to say goodbye to his beloved. His heart couldn't handle it. "This is farewell, Sir Sonic."
Sonic's smile nearly faltered for a brief second if he hadn't caught himself. He didn't want to leave, but he had to, no matter how much things have changed back in his realm. He missed his friends, his family, that stupid egghead… That was where he belonged.
"It's never goodbye. So… See ya later, Lance."
As the light of the portal dimmed and dissipated into thin air, Lancelot found himself clutching the gauntlet tightly. His bare fingers now intertwined with metal every night he slept, knowing that those same fingers would never hold him back. Despite how cold and devoid the piece of armor was against his fingers, he would always remind himself that his gauntlet was once filled with someone's warmth.
The thought of his beloved Sonic now living his true life running as free as the wind, was enough for Sir Lancelot to sleep soundly every night.
At least, he had a piece of his memory to hold on to.

nothing makes me more insane than the phrase "selling your body" btw. like was i not also selling my body at every other job i've had where i had to be on my feet all day, lifting boxes, working in a warehouse, etc. why is it that sex work is uniquely labeled as "selling your body" while every other job is sorted into another category, no matter how much that job might have a physical impact on your body. lmao.

There’s not enough people talking about how important Stephanie is to Damian’s growth pre-Flashpoint.
Bruce had seen Damian as a beast to be tamed, Tim sees him as a ticking time bomb, and Dick is far better with him but he’s still an authority figure for Damian to combat with. But then he meets Stephanie, a college-aged girl who nobody trusts and he bullies her relentlessly and becomes inseparable from her.
She doesn’t interact with him based on his past, but on what she can see. This 10 year old just threatened to kill her? Wow he doesn’t get outside much. He’s not old enough to have seen Gremlins. What do you MEAN you’ve never been inside a bouncy house before we are fixing that immediately.
They are like cousins to each other. They poke fun at each other for being lame and stupid and Dick has to tell them both to shut up. She doesn’t see him as a project to be molded and redeemed, he’s just a kid with a crappy childhood like her and if he’s nice to her for 5 seconds she’ll do something with him to let him feel like a kid. And he doesn’t look at her and see a liability or a failure or a lost cause, like everyone she’s ever interacted with does. When he’s awful to her, it’s because he’s an obnoxious preteen boy.
And then you get the “there’s room in our line of work for hope, too” scene. Because Damian has gotten to know Steph and he can’t fathom why she’s here. She obviously has had to deal with crap and is still working through being kept on a leash by Nightwing and Oracle, but she isn’t broken like the rest of them are. Damian is surrounded by people who were molded and shaped and torn down and broken to become the monoliths that they are, and then there’s this girl who seems so at peace with herself and is constantly making quips, and it’s so foreign to him.
And she tells him that she’s in his world because she believes people are worth fighting for.

A plushie manufacturer reached out to me a couple of days ago, asking if I would be interested in a collab with them and I of course said yes!
So many people have already made JayVik plushies inspired by the show, so I was thinking about having Jayce and Viktor plushies made based on my designs for the knight/prince AU.
Would you guys be interested in that?

I'm going to be asking a lot of artists I follow this question, but how did you develop your style? It SEEMS like most people find their style and stick with it forever, just making improvements and iterations. I tend to work in a lot of different styles because I enjoy doing that, though I know there are things I gravitate towards as well. But I wonder what your journey was and how you got feedback and improved while staying true to what you enjoyed?
Hi there!
I definitely wouldn't say that I've found my style and stuck with it forever-- I feel like each of my projects has asked for a certain kind of art, and has presented new challenges that push me in new directions.
Some of that comes from seeing someone else's work and having something click into place that might fix errors/faults in my own, and then I might try to incorporate that, such as bigger outlines on my characters to help distinguish them from the background, or maybe a way someone else simplifies eyes that can help make mine look less weird.
When I first started drawing, I can see where I encountered certain influences because my sketchbooks suddenly switch to incorporating some new stylistic element that I liked from whatever I was reading/watching at the time. But it was never QUITE right, it was never just copying, there was always something ~wrong~ with it. And that wrongness was my style! As much as I hated it, that was what distinguished my art from being just a copy of someone else's. I hate it less now, and understand that other people see something there that maybe I don't, because it's just what happens when I filter other people's work through my head. My soul, if you will.
There are definitely through-lines with my work, driven by what I like drawing and what comes easily to me-- hatching is almost always a major component, and I like making expressive characters. Here's some of my earliest available stuff, from my old webcomic:
Tumblr media
Then not long after that, I started The Last Halloween, which pushed me to challenge myself in both layout and style:
Tumblr media
And here's the same comic, years later:
Tumblr media
And here's a series I did for kids, where I had to use full color and lay off on the hatching, as well as learn how to reconstruct animals that we have no photo references for, which is definitely a place where style comes majorly into play, whether I wanted it to or not:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there was the horror book I did, where I tried to push my work to be less cartoony overall, and to work very hard on improving my hatching:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I started work on Scarlet Hollow, where I incorporated a limited/muted palette and had to once again push myself to make less-cartoony art, as well as learn more consistency so I could draw sprite sets. This was a big challenge for me, and has helped me grow as an artist so much!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And most recently, I wrapped up work on Slay the Princess, which required that I go back in the cartoony direction, but in a very different way than I was used to. This took a lot of sketching to figure out, and there's still a decent amount of artistic stumbling in Chapter 1 while I settled into it.
Tumblr media
She's drawing on anime/Disney influence, but each Princess required a bit of stylistic variability. Some are more anime, while some are more realistic than even the Scarlet Hollow characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I wouldn't worry too much, honestly! A person's style is often something that reveals itself over the course of their career, rather than something they choose and then try to stick to forever.
Even if you don't think you have a style, you do. It might vary a lot piece by piece, especially if you're trying to closely imitate another person's art, but the more work you do, the more you'll figure out your own strengths and interests!
