Mk1 intros with exotic dancer!reader
While reader has no bodily description, the vibe I'm going for is
Please enjoy these self indulgent intros! I have put more details about the reader insert under the intros but see how much you can piece together from the dialogue 😂 Also black text is the reader
Johnny * "How much for a dance, beautiful?" "For you and Kenshi? Always on the house..." * "Think about it, gorgeous! You and I? On the red carpet?! IN THAT RED OUTFIT OF YOURS!!" "I'm not sure I'd enjoy the public scrutiny..." * "You are an entertainer like me in Earthrealm?" "An entertainer of sorts... remind me to show you Ninja Mine when we get back home!" * "Many of your earthrealm friends seemed confused that I am bound to both you and Kenshi?" "Yeah... explaining polyrelationships on earth is a bit harder than Outworld..."
Kenshi * "It pains me terribly to know that you can't see me dance anymore..." "I can still see you in a sense. Besides love, I can feel your dancing much more acutely now." * "How many lucky men have seen the red outfit?" "Just you and Johnny..." * "We have already been threatened by the Empress and Princesses to not hurt you love..." "The bite marks you both left probably didn't help your case!" * "Does everyone in Outworld know about your relationship with me and Johnny?" "Unfortunately, court gossip spreads fast, more so regarding me or Mileena..."
Sindel * "Remember my dear, there will always be a place at court for you, should you want it." "Thank you Aunt Sindel!" * "All those times you took the blame for Mileena, I did know about it - thank you." "It helped Mileena's reputation in court to not always the troublemaker, it was necessary." * "Please do not blame Mileena so much for that one night: Tarkat is very easy to contract." "And yet dear, you lived your entire life on the streets and never contracted it?"
Mileena * "Based on the noises I heard from your bedchamber last night, I assume the earthrealmers are good at pleasuring?" "Mil, pleasure doesn't even BEGIN to describe the feeling..." * "Do you remember that celebration by the sea front when you thr-" "SHUSH - Mother does not know about that night..." * "How can you forgive me for blinding your lover?! I wouldn't blame you for hating me-" "You didn't have control! Kenshi knows that and I do too. Besides, how can you forgive me for letting you contract Tarkat?"
Kitana * "A little birdie told me that Raiden likes you..." "I believe that may have been exaggerated..." * "Do you promise you will come back to visit?" "Of course Kit, I'll be back before you know it!" * "Li Mei still does not approve of your choices-" "Believe me, that will not change any time soon."
Li Mei * "I am only looking out for the Princesses' well-being!" "By isolating them from their only friend outside the palace?" * "With your talent, you could have been a better umgadi than Tanya and yet you choose to be an entertainer?!" "I choose to live and enjoy life: not just survive it!" * "Despite what you believe, I am proud of your skill-" "Then maybe show it once in a while!"
Tanya * "Does anyone know about our training?" "No, and I'd prefer it to stay that way." * "Look after Mileena AND Kitana while I am gone - they are like sisters to me." "Of course - it is my honour and duty" * "Thank you for supporting me and Mileena." "I was allowed to be with who I love; Mileena deserves the same."
Raiden * "Do I make you uncomfortable Raiden?" "Uh... uncomfortable is not the word I would use..." * "I can put in a good word to Kitana for you~" "Thank you - that is very kind!" * "Did Johnny explain the relationship to you?" "I... understand the basic principle..."
Kung Lao * "What does Johnny have that I don't?!" "Better table manners for one." * "How much for a dance?" "I doubt you could afford it!" * "Is it true you were engaged to Reiko?!" "He and I grew up together, nothing more."
Bihan * "I will not associate with an outworld whore!" "You do understand that I am a dancer and not a prostitute? Right?" * "I will not be bewitched Sorceress!" "So you DO find me attractive!" * "I heard about the offer you made to Kuai Liang..." "Is that jealousy I hear in your voice?"
Kuai Liang * "I am here to offer you my services... in ANY capacity... or position... you wish..." "Are you still speaking of kombat?" * "I hear you have a red outfit-" "Unfortunately handsome, that is just for Johnny and Kenshi." * "Kombatant or dancer, if I wanted your services, how much-" "For you? On the house..."
Tomas * "Did you ever feel that you did not belong when you lived with the princesses?" "I was fortunate enough to have been friends with both Mileena and Kitana before Aunt Sindel took me in." * "If it puts you at ease, Madam Bo told me of Raiden's how-you-say 'crush' as well, not just yours..." "I can't believe she told you!" * "Kenshi? I am confused, Johnny said-" "This really is a bizarre concept to earthrealmers, isn't it?"
Ashrah * "I heard what your Kriss said about Mileena and Kitana - what does it say about me?" "It says that you are a better person than you let on and that you keep your kindness guarded?" * "You know, I could show you a few moves to impress Syzoth?..." "Oh... thank you?" * "Perhaps you could do me a favour and not tell anyone about the having-a-good-heart revelation from your sword - I have a reputation to keep up." "If that is what you wish."
Syzoth * "Ashrah is a lucky girl... that being said, my offer for a dance is still on the table..." "Oh... umm I appreciate the offer?" * "Ashrah says you are a better person than most people think." "I TOLD HER TO KEEP THAT A SECRET!" * "If it is any consolation, the people of Outworld considered me a freak as well." "It is comforting to know that someone so beautiful has shared my struggles."
General Shao * "I heard about your relationship with the earthrealmers!" "UGH who told you?!" * "You only survived through Royal nepotism!" "Are you still upset about me defeating you at the banquet?! * "Your attractiveness is ruined by your demeanour and personality." "Is this the great general finally admitting his attraction towards me?"
Reiko * "I heard the rumours, your relationship with the earthrealmers-" "Is none of your concern!" * "Had you not left the palace, we would have been engaged!" "There are plenty of reasons we would NOT have been engaged, Reiko." * "You were practically handed a position at court?!" "I chose my freedom Reiko - I did not want to spend the rest of my life as Li Mei's shadow the way you are with the general!"
Shang Tsung * "I want a dance - name your price..." "Easy - YOUR HEAD!" * "I hear you do more than dance for the earthrealmers..." "DOES EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP?" * "Not so innocent, are you?" "Like you have any right to judge me!"
For this backstory description to make sense age wise, I'm going to use human years on the scale that Mileena and Kitana are in their 20s with the reader being the same age as Mileena. Backstory: reader is an orphan who grew up with Reiko - the two were just your average street urchins. At around age 7 when they were stealing from the market, reader saw two girls who were very lost and distraught. They asked her if she could show them the way back to the palace. Assuming they were joking, she ignored the request but asked them to hang out with her until their parents arrived. So the three girls and Reiko spent the rest of the day having fun. The next day, Li Mei found the four children and brought them back to the palace saying to Sindel that the reader and Reiko should receive punishment. However, Mileena and Kitana both vouched for them and their abilities in kombat. Shao, upon hearing this, decided to take Reiko under his wing. Meanwhile, Sindel was overjoyed to see that Mileena and Kitana made their first and only friend outside of the palace and decided to take reader in to be trained as an umgadi. So for the next few years, Li Mei trained reader in kombat and the ways of palace life but this did not stop reader and Mileena to sneak out of the palace at any given chance. By the time reader was 16, it was time for her to take the umgadi vows but reader shocked everyone by saying she wants to be a street performer instead of an umgadi. Sindel agreed with the condition that whenever reader is in Sun Do, she will stay at the palace with them. So the reader split her time between staying in Sun Do and travelling.
In terms of trying to match this up with MK1, following Reiko's defeat, Sindel is ready to yell at Li Mei for failing to secure the entertainment when Reader walks through the door offering to do so. The royal family immediately go to hug her leaving the earthrealmer gang confused. Liu Kang then explains the story to Raiden, Kung Lao and a smitten Johnny and Kenshi. The banquet takes place with the reader as the entertainer. When Raiden's toast is interrupted by Shao, reader tells him to back down with a fight ensuing with reader as the victor. She ends up becoming very fond of the earthrealmers and decides to spend time with them. The game then unfolds as usual and after the festival when the earthrealm players return, reader goes with them alongside Ashrah and Syzoth. By the end of the game, reader returns to earth with Johnny and Kenshi with the promise to return Outworld soon. (Also let's say everyone survives in this scenario because I love writing intros for Sindel).
@redlotus98 maybe it's time to make an MK branch of the red house universe...👀
Let me know if you want to see intros for characters talking about the reader

I like when ppl write their own version of mk intros, so I shall request those. I don't have any specific idea for reader's backstory so I'd love to see what you come up with o/
Thx for the motivation, you gave me a brilliant idea-
Mk1 x Gn! Doom God! Reader
Note: Reader uses mini scythes connected via chains as a Krucible and has armour more like those from Halo. Implied Doom Slayer x reader.
Ft. Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Kitana, Shang Tsung
Liu Kang: You are a God in your realm?
You: I'd rather go with Slayer, but yes.
Liu Kang: The fact that your realm's Seraphims see you as nothing but a weapon... doesn't sit right with me.
You: Why? It is my sole purpose.
Liu Kang: Slaying demons for many decades must have been challenging.
You: Less challenging, more soul-draining.
You: I do not intend to stay here long, Lord Liu Kang.
Liu Kang: At least grant me one last spar?
You: There is another like me, but he is a lot less talkative.
Liu Kang: I have no doubt that he is as honorable as you.
You: The humans in this world are very different than the ones back at home...
Liu Kang: How so?
Johnny Cage: So, what exactly are you the God of?
You: I am no God, but people have no better words to describe me.
Johnny Cage: C'mon, you and your buddy would totally fit in a first-person shooter!
You: I have better demons to fight than Paparazzi, Cage.
Johnny Cage: So, this buddy of yours, he anything other than just your partner in crime?
You: Even if we were, I wouldn't tell you.
You: I have no time for trivial things like "love".
Johnny Cage: Sheesh, talk about workaholic.
You: I know what you're going to ask, and no, you can't hold my Krucible.
Johnny Cage: Y'know if you weren't such a buzzkill, I'd totally tap that.
You: Do you get anything out of flirting with me?
Johnny Cage: The possibility of courting a Goddess/God.
Raiden: Your people see you as a God?
You: Yeah, they even made a whole religion based on us.
Raiden: This other "Doom God" you speak of, he sounds like a ruthless man.
You: Oh trust me, he is.
Raiden: Is it foolish of me to request a spar with a demon-killing God?
You: Don't worry, I'll be gentle.
You: That amulet you have is fascinating...
Raiden: As is that weapon of yours.
You: Ashrah is a Demon? She looks so human compared to the ones back at home.
Raiden: Whatever monsters you deal with at home, I can assure you she is nothing like them.
You: Are you sure you want to meet him?
Raiden: When you speak so highly of him, how can I not?
Kitana: The war you fight sounds worse than Outworlds.
You: I pray this universe will never experience such a war...
Kitana: I feel like you and my sister would get along well.
You: I take from the way you say that, that it's a compliment.
Kitana: The humans of your world call you "Ruin God"?
You: They are so creative, aren't they?
You: I must say, you were right about getting along with Mileena.
Kitana: The blood coating your armour seems to prove so.
You: I have been alive for so long with the mind of a human, that I started to forget who my parents were...
Kitana: I'm... sorry to hear that, Ruin.
You: I hoped to not get attached to any of you to make my departure easier.
Kitana: laughs Guess that didn't work out so well, did it?
Shang Tsung: Well, aren't you a fine specimen.
You: Back off you cretin, or you'll see why we are called Gods.
Shang Tsung: I could set you and your partner free from the shackles of being weapons for your world.
You: And be yours instead? I'd rather serve the Seraphims.
Shang Tsung: We could have been such a powerful couple, you and I.
You: I already have a stronger and better suitor, sorcerer.
You: You are worse than the demons back at home...
Shang Tsung: Oh~ feeling feisty now are we?
You: You are playing with forces beyond your power, sorcerer.
Shang Tsung: Then let's play~
You: You look horrible. Did you finally meet him?
Shang Tsung: Tch, how you two have such power for mere humans is beyond my comprehension.

MK1 flirty Intros w/ Pro-Wrestler!Reader
(Featuring: Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Raiden, Sindel, Kenshi)
Notes: Was lowkey basing reader off of Tina Armstrong from DOA. Reader and Johnny know each other because Reader’s success as a wrestler had them cameo in one of Johnny’s movies. One of Liu Kang’s champions.
Johnny Cage 🕶️
Johnny: Whatcha gonna do when Cageamania runs WILD on you?! 😎
Y/N: And this is why I didn’t come back for Ninja Mime 2 🙄
Johnny: I would love for you to be the Ms/Mr L/N to my Johnny Savage 🥴
Y/N: Why can’t you ask me out like a normal person? 😒
Johnny: How much for your championship belt?
Y/N: Come back when you survive Tommy the Hun. 😤
Y/N: You would NEVER last in MY ring, pretty boy. 🥱
Johnny: So you DO think I’m pretty. 😏
Y/N: Cage you have got to stop the wrestling puns.😒
Johnny: Don’t act like they’re not making you chuckle, tiger 🥴
Johnny: You know, I AM a bachelor again. 😏
Y/N: Hmm…but are you a suitable one? 🤔
Kung Lao 🎓
Kung Lao: My fighting prowess vs your circus act. 😏
Y/N: Lao have you ever been on the receiving end of a Crossface? 😤
Y/N: Are all farm boys as cute as you. 🥰
Kung Lao: *chuckles* No, I’m one of a kind. 😘
Kung Lao: I had heard wrestling was fake but that exploding barbed wire match was too brutal! 😨
Y/N: *laughs* Aww, look at you all worried. 🥰
Y/N: Y’know…I think I’d look good in your hat…and nothing else. 😉
Kung Lao: Hm?🤨….Oh!😐 Ohhhhh…😳
Kung Lao: After this match, you HAVE to meet Madam Bo! 😃
Y/N: Already taking me to meet your mother figure, are you? 😏
Y/N: Farm boy, huh? You must be good with your hands. 😏
Kung Lao: I’d like to think so.🥴
Raiden ⚡️
Y/N: My eyes are up here, Raiden. 🤭
Raiden: Yes!😳 I apologize!
Y/N: Y’know, I’m a sucker for farm boys.
Raiden: *tries to hide his blushing*
Raiden: It’s amazing how quick you initiate those holds.
Y/N: Thanks. I can show you a few if you want…privately of course.
Raiden: What did Madame Bo pull you aside for?🤨
Y/N: Oh you know…the usual…thinly veiled threats about what would happen if I broke your heart….maybe not so thin.
Kenshi🗡️
Kenshi: What do you see in Cage as a friend? 🤨
Y/N: He grows on you, trust me. ☺️
Kenshi: I’m not someone you should get involved with. 😔
Y/N: I know how to handle wise guys, Kenshi.
Y/N: I should’ve done more to protect you. 🥺
Kenshi: You cannot blame yourself for this, Y/N.
Kenshi: I caught one of your matches when you were in Japan. You’re technicality is impressive.
Y/N: Oh! 😯 Thank you! 😊
Kenshi: How did you get roped up into that Ninja Mime cameo?
Y/N: *groan* It was a favor to Cris.
Y/N: Sento doesn’t watch…does it?
Kenshi: I…..hadn’t thought of that.
Sindel 🔊
Sindel: Wrestling is a revered art form in Outworld. What about Earthrealm?
Y/N: Depends on your definition of revered. 😅
Sindel: Can you keep up?
Y/N: I won’t lose my breath, Empress.
Sindel: So already a champion? Interesting.
Y/N: Yeah, it’s not the same as Earthrealm champion but..yeah~🥰
Y/N: So Li Mei is…..👀
Sindel: *chuckles* it’s feels nice to have someone be jealous over me again. 🥰
Y/N: So how much work is there being a consort?
Sindel: About as much as being the Empress.
Y/N: Will Mileena and Kitana think this weird? 🥺
Sindel: They will come to love you, dearest. 🥰

MK1 Characters Ages Headcanon
Vaeternus: 1 year = 6k years
Edenian: 1 year = 400 years
Draconian: 1 year = 250 years
*For Vaeternus, I made these calculations based on a Nitara intro. I believe Kung Lao asks her how old she is and Nitara says that she was a little girl when humans discovered fire. There were many differing accounts on when that happened but I decided to pick the one that said fire was a widespread, controlled source 125,000 years ago. It was the second most recent account- first being 12,000 years ago. I chose 125k since I assume the intro I mentioned is meant to hint how much older Vaeternus is than most races.
*Since the story confirmed that Kitana and Mileena were 10,000 years old, I used the number to find an estimated number of Edenian years that equals a single human year. I considered Kitana and Mileena to be 25 in human years since it divides 10,000 evenly and the sisters look close to that age- dividing those numbers equaled to 400 years. So, 400 Edenian years is equal to 1 human year.
*In the story, Sindel confronted Shao and mentioned how she remembered the sickly boy he was. This is evidence that Sindel is older than Shao by a few years- ten years at minimum; however, in my opinion, Shao looks older than Sindel so I believe the Draconian species have a shorter life span than Edenians, but they are still much larger than human’s. Unlike with the Edenians, I decided to have 250 Draconian years be equivalent to one human year because of an idea of an estimated range.
*Liu Kang is slightly older than the Big Bang in the New Era. I couldn’t calculate Geras’ age since he’s experienced a ginormous amount of timelines. Calculations over a trillion is too difficult for any calculator to compute.
Ashrah: 29 (human years)
Baraka: 22k (Edenian years), 55 (human years)
General Shao: 12,500 (Draconian years), 50 (human years)
Geras: Can’t Calculate
Havik: 27 (human years)
Johnny Cage: 28
Kenshi Takahashi: 28
Kitana: 10k (Edenian years; canon), 25 (human years)
Kung Lao: 24
Jerrod: 20k (Edenian years), 50 (human years) [If he were alive]
Li Mei: 18,400 (Edenian years), 46 (human years)
Liu Kang: 13.8 billion
Mileena: 10k (Edenian years; canon), 25 (human years)
Nitara: 150k (Vaeternus years) or 12k (Vaeternus years), 25 (human years)
Raiden: 24
Rain: 10,400 (Edenian years), 26 (human years)
Reiko: 26 (human years)
Reptile: 29 (human years)
Kuai Liang/Scorpion: 26
Sindel: 19,200 (Edenian years), 48 (human years)
Shang Tsung: 27 (human years)
Tomas Vrbada/Smoke: 25
Bi-Han/Sub-Zero: 28
Tanya: 9,600 (Edenian years), 24 (human years)

“SHE’S THE MAN” MILEENA X FEM!READER
SUMMARY : You and Mileena are in a debate of who’s the “man” in the relationship. To be clear you are slightly a masculine woman. (Not fully just have some masculine traits). This is based on a shameless episode btw. This is a joke to poke FUN at the ridiculousness of the running gag that there has to be a “man” in the relationship. Do not take it seriously
WARNINGS : I don’t think any but maybe gender “traditional” for some??? It’s a happy ending either way so don’t cry in my comments pls. I just thought it was a funny concept
MASTERLIST
Mileena was prepping up the palace for a ball she was having. As she did so, your Earthrealm comrades were sitting at the table eating with Kitana. You were on your phone.
Your Empress had walked up to you and showed you a pretty black ball dress. “Look, (Y/N)! This would look stunning on you!”
You took a look at it and practically gagged a little. “No thanks.”
“What’s wrong with it?”
You gave your girlfriend a look like it was obvious. “Does it look like I wear dresses, sweetheart?”
Mileena handed the dress to one of her servants before angrily turning to you. “Aren’t you a girl?”
“Are you saying all girls have to wear dresses? Not very gender inclusive of you.” You taunted at her a little and when you seen the death glare she shot at you, you immediately shut up.
Johnny Cage placed his fork down before looking at the two of you. “Which one of you is the man in the relationship anyway?” They all turned to give him a look and he shrugged as if he didn’t say anything wrong. “What? I’m asking the real questions.”
“I am.” You and Mileena both said at the same time.
You erupted with laughter. Mileena gave you a dirty look. “What? What is so funny?”
You stood up from your seat and swung your arm around her. “Mileena you are not close to being the man in the relationship.”
Mileena removed your arm around her. “Excuse you but who killed the spider last Friday? Me.”
“Spider phobia is a real thing.”
“Arachnophobia.” Raiden quickly corrected you.
Johnny intervened. “Alright I can quickly settle this. Who does the hitting in the relationship?”
Mileena quickly slapped you to prove a point. “I do.”
You felt your face and gave her a ‘what the fuck’ look. “Um…OW!”
Johnny looked to see your reaction. He nodded and went back to eating. “(Y/N), let you hit her. She’s the man.”
You laughed in Mileena’s face and Mileena gave Johnny a look. “How does that prove anything?!”
“It just does.”
Kitana shook her head. “You all are ridiculous…but if I had to pick who then Mileena.”
This time, Mileena laughed in your face and you rolled your eyes. “What criteria does she reach for you to assume that?”
“Last time I checked, Mileena is the one that always defends your honor.”
Kung Lao decided to speak. “Who does the cooking and cleaning?”
“I do.” You said.
“Yeah, Mileena’s the man.”
You scoffed. “Oh? Sue me because I like a nice and clean lifestyle with a home cooked meal while this one likes to live like we’re at the barn in Charlotte’s Webb.” You said all while pointing at Mileena.
Mileena slapped your shoulder with a gasp. “I do not! I just don’t have time to clean or cook. Unlike you I have a palace to run.”
“Right because throwing the 10,000th annual ball for the third time this week really sums up as ‘I’m busy.’”
“Oh god…they even fight like a married couple.” Kenshi said.
You turned your attention to Raiden. “Raiden. Buddy. Please help my girlfriend’s insanity and tell her the truth!”
Raiden sighed. “I do not want to be part of this ridiculous argument.” When he seen your puppy dog eyes he shook his head. “That was a very feminine thing to do, (Y/N).”
“Dammit!” You stomped your foot and Mileena laughed. Liu Kang finally joined the table. He sat down and you thought this was your one hope. “Lord Liu Kang. Be honest. Who’s the man in the relationship? Me? Or the woman that was literally formally a princess?” When he was about to say something, you cut him off. “And if you say you’re too high and mighty to have this conversation-so help the Elder Gods, I will burn this place to the ground.”
Liu Kang leaned back in his seat as if to think of it. Then he spoke. “Mileena.”
“What?” You asked shocked. “Who’s side are you on? So much for my mentor.”
“Wait a second.” Kenshi said. “Who’s on top when you guys go at it?”
“Me.” You and Mileena both say again.
You gave Mileena a look. “You being on top every third Tuesday of the month does not count.”
“We should’ve led up with that question…” Johnny trailed off. “Yeah, (Y/N) is the man. Debate over.”
Mileena gasped as if she was outraged. “You know what? I don’t even care! I just wanted you to wear the dress! Can’t you do anything I ask of you?”
She stormed off. You watch her walk off and you turned back to your friends. “So that temper tantrum solidified me being the man right?” Everyone nodded saying a ‘yeah’ “Good.”
Mileena’s ball was happening. She sat on the throne wearing her pink dress. You hadn’t arrived. She was starting to think that you were actually mad at her.
She sighed, fiddling with her drink with the straw. That’s when she heard footsteps reach her throne. She looked up and there she saw you.
There you stood in the black ball gown that she had showed you earlier. Mileena smiled big. “(Y/N).”
“You are so lucky this is an all black dress.”
Mileena set her drink down and went to hug you. You hugged her back lovingly. She pulled back and noticed you wearing black sneakers.
“I don’t do heels.”
Mileena didn’t care though. You were wearing the dress. “That’s sweet of you, lover but if you were really uncomfortable with wearing the dress then you didn’t have to wear it.”
You shrugged a little. “It’s not a big deal. You like it so I like it. Plus, I look hot.”
“That you do.” She gave you a peck on the lips. “Let’s go dance. I’m leading.”
“Yeah, you wish.”

Sorry not sorry This is my first art for this fandom and I hope it’s not the last (I’m only new to it, because for me MK has always been perceived as a game with online battles and I only now found out that there is a plot😅🥲)
As for this art and my thoughts… I thought that the ending, where Shang Tsung fights with Liu Kang against the Titan Shang Tsung, would be canonical for my work. I like to think that these two warmed up a bit at the end of the game and their relationship, while still incredibly rocky, moved beyond the point of hatred (Especially on Liu's part) And after all the events, when Shang Tsung was imprisoned, Liu Kang thought that it would be nice to repay for saving the world and try to negotiate with Empress Mileena to give this snake to his Shaolin temple for re-education…. AND HERE STARTS MY HUGE FANFIC THAT I'VE BEEN WRITING FOR A WEEK ALREADY I don’t know if I will publish it somewhere… Because it is in my native Russian language and I know English too poorly to translate the literary text with all sorts of catchphrases and so on… But all my thoughts about this pairing are literally based on this fanfic (plus it mentions Ashrah’s relationship with Saizot and Johnny with Kenshi) But if we take the key moments, then Kitana Liu Kang died on the battlefield, and because of this he feels quite bad (which, of course, he will never say out loud), because he was alone for so long… and this the forced meeting cost him a great loss… And Shang Tsung is angry that he was kicked out of the outside world. He thinks that Liu Kang makes him a debtor for saving him from execution and because of this he does dirty tricks. He doesn’t want to engage with the monks at all and behaves rudely and aggressively. Because of this, Liu Kang has to devote too much time to him alone, since no one can influence the sorcerer. At first, for him it is a forced burden, and for Shang Tsung it is more like a prison supervision, but over time, they begin to get used to each other and their relationship becomes closer… Sorry for such a long text, I got carried away and took up a lot of your time. Thank you if you read to the end and I will be very pleased if my thoughts are close to you) have a nice day!❤️

Considering he (at least in my own beliefs) grew up/lived impoverished, on the streets, I feel the need to point out just how likely it is that Mk1 Shang Tsung is just straight up illiterate.
I believe that Shang at the very least, with no one to actually teach him how to read, just came up with his own assumptions for how letters/symbols sound based on how people read signs or bottles around him. The small arrangement of words he can write with accuracy are those without silent letters, or that can be guessed phonetically based on simple syllables.
That said, he does write his own notes to himself, but they are genuinely illegible to other people. I mean, he was just making assumptions about which letter, if any at all, made “th” sounds or what the hell makes a “fff” sound because it’s F, but also P, but maybe it’s H? Why are people reading it that way? Why do multiple letters make one sound? What the fuck even is an X?
He never expected to have to show anyone else his writing anyway, so he basically has his own written language that often includes pictograms, shapes or literally made-up words or symbols sometimes for words that his human tongue just couldn’t pronounce. His words and language, written or not, came from whoever was around him. Be it a Zaterran, with their own language, or a visitor from far away lands who spoke his language but with a different dialect, or a Tarkatan who simply has a lisp because they have no lips.
I’m not really going anywhere with this but I think it’d just be funny to imagine like, Kitana and Mileena looking for any notes on Shang’s Tarkat cure that he may have left behind anywhere, or the Earthrealm champions scavenging for hints as to where he may go next, and they find his writing. And for a moment they believe they could’ve made progress. But it actually just looks like someone keysmashed in writing with emojis included.
Everyone assumes he’s writing in some secret genius code, maybe to communicate with other evil bad villains or whatever, but no. He is just illiterate.
#does this make any sense#am i just stupid#like#there’s no proper Google results for#how do illiterate people write#not in the way I was looking for#so I just made up what I would do in this scenario#Anyways#mortal kombat#mk1#mortal kombat 1#Shang Tsung#mk1 shang tsung#Shang Tsung mk1#mk headcanons#mortal kombat headcanons#I believe Quan chi would be illiterate as well#he never had much use for writing though#Shang tried teaching him#but his own language was just#ten times more confusing than learning a real Outworld language#Damashi literally didn’t even try#she was like damn you live like this

Bi-Han and Shang Tsung seen through the various "timelines", p.1
Or: Cienie collects data about how Shang Tsung and Bi-Han's relationship looked in different source material through the years. And by "Bi-Han" I mean all incarnations of Sub-Zero that took part in the tenth Tournament or were Shang Tsung's hired assassin around that time.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT (1992)
Sub-Zero’s Ending:
"After receiving the title of Grand Champion, Sub-Zero disappears back into the shadows from which he came. His only goal in the tournament was...the assassination of Shang Tsung. He was paid a large sum of money by one of Tsung's wealthy enemies. With his mission accomplished, Sub-Zero will collect his fortune and retire from his dangerous profession."
>> MORTAL KOMBAT: BLOOD AND THUNDER (1994)
Issue #0
"It is true that there are those who would thwart my plans. Their mission is only common bond they have. Save for the exceptional fighting prowess [...] I'm uncertain of Sub-Zero's background, but based on the markings of his uniform, he probably belongs to the Lin Kuei, a legendary clan of Chinese ninjas. [...] Each of them has his own agenda, but they all wish to stop me. To do so, they must fight their way through my personal guards and they must do the impossible and defeat mighty Goro. And then... should they somehow accomplished all of that... they would have to deal with Shang Tsung himself.
Issue #2
"Representing the Outworld province of Katala... this is Grum. And battling for the Lin Kuei clan... Sub-Zero.
Sub-Zero: Where are you taking me? Goro: We're going to escort you to special "quarters" to await your next match. Do not be so jumpy, my friend. There is nothing to worry about.
Sonya: Look! I want to know what's going on here! I demand to speak to Shang Tsung! Sub-Zero: Is it not obvious, woman? There is no end to Tsung's treachery.
Issue #6
Sub-Zero: I came to the Island of Shang Tsung to claim the title of Grand Master of Mortal Kombat. The time has come for the Lin Kuei clan to rise to its place of power.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT BATTLEWAVE (199-?)
*This comic book is followed by "A cold day in Hell" in which at the end we met younger Sub-Zero, which is why I count Battlewave as the source for "Bi-Han". There is not much direct information of Shang Tsung & Bi-Han's interaction, but the elder Sub-Zero helps Kitana who opposes Shao Kahn, so by default they are enemies.
Issue #6
Shao Kahn: The CHallenge has been issued and it may not be refused. Two teams shall do battle, seeking a goal of my choosing. Shang Tsung will lead the forces of Shao Kahn, battling for Outworld and Rayden shall lead the forces of Light, representing Earth and those sympathetic to his goals.
Team Outworld: Shang Tsung, Goro, Kintaro, Scorpion, Reptile, Kano, Mileena, Smoke, Jade, Siang.
Team Earthrealm & allies: Rayden, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Jax, Kung Lao, Baraka, Bo.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT: TOURNAMENT EDITION - "A COLD DAY IN HELL" (1995)
Some of them are from Earth realm. Others are from here on Outworld. They have been separated by the whims of the Dark Emperor... into two teams lead by opposing personalities.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT CARD GAME (1995)
Sub-Zero is a member of the Lin Kuei and one of the deadliest assassins alive. He joins the tournament as one of Shang Tsung's hired mercenaries in exchange for the secrets of Tsung's arcane magic.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE (1995)
youtube
Shang Tsung (to Sonya, Johnny and Liu Kang): "Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Deadliest of enemies. But slaves under my power."
youtube
Shang Tsung (after Sub-Zero's demonstrated his ice powers and killed a man): Flawless victory.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT (novelization of the 1995 film) by MARTIN DELRIO (1995)
“You!” Shang said. “What are you doing here, old one? This is my domain. Here the emperor pronounces the law.” “Indeed.” “Then tell me, Rayden, god without miracles, why do you come? To see your fighters destroyed, your realm lost, and you yourself humiliated? Is it really worth the price you must pay to come here, to see those things?” “I have reason to expect a slightly different outcome,” Rayden said mildly. “Tell me, if you are so confident of the results of the tournament, why do you go even now to visit Prince Goro?” “I pay my respects to Outworld’s greatest champion,” Shang Tsung said. “What is so odd about that?” “Nothing, if you did not travel with your ninjas,” Rayden said. “Did you think I would not recognize Sub-Zero and Scorpion? If you go to visit a friend and ally, you have no need of those two.”
Shang paced in, Sub-Zero and Scorpion at his side, never breaking stride.
Another gong sounded. Shang Tsung stepped forward, a line of monks pacing him on either side. Sub-Zero and Scorpion, the two ninjas, kept their usual pace just behind him.
>> MORTAL KOMBAT NOVEL by JEFF ROVIN (1995)
“You may be right,” Shang Tsung said. “Tell me again why Kano was the best man for this job – why we couldn’t get the man I wanted.” Goro reached into the smaller of two bamboo cages set before him, pulled out a small struggling horny toad, and put its head in his mouth. He bit down. “Because the man you wanted, Sub-Zero of the Lin Kuei ninjas, was not available.” “I know that,” Shang Tsung said, his reedy voice impatient. “Why wasn’t he available?” Goro used a thick finger to push the rest of the horny toad into his mouth, and after shaking the cage to see what else was in there, he dug through a wriggling layer of garter snakes to pull out a newt. “Because he killed an assassin by the name of Scorpion, and went into hiding. No one knows where in China he is, not even other members of the Lin Kuei.”
The wizard’s fingers curled into a tight ball, and he rattled it at the circle of ooze-covered powder on the floor of the shrine. “I haven’t come this far to be stopped by a mortal… even a mortal who is aided by a deity!” “Then you must act… against Liu.” Shang Tsung nodded. He would love to find a way to act against Rayden himself, but he dared not step into the circle to consult with Shao Kahn. He didn’t want to face the god’s ire now that they knew the blundering idiot Kano was being followed – and by three members of the White Lotus Society no less – men, women, and even children who were masters of the martial and ninja arts. Even if he were to send Goro out to intercept them, that was no guarantee of victory. The giant Shokanite might have no trouble stopping one of the White Lotus members, but three? For that, Shang Tsung would need special assistance. Help that was sly and moved like the hornet, quietly and unseen. “Where is he, Ruthay? Where is the only one who can help me?” There was a long pause. “I… am looking.” Then, the disembodied voice said, “I see him… Shang Tsung. He is hiding.” “Where?” “In a cave… in a cliff… north of Wenzhou.” “That’s just like him,” Shang Tsung said. “With the fees he charges, he could live in splendor. Yet he chooses a life of hardship and study.” “And death!” Ruthay said. “Yes, death,” Shang Tsung admitted. “Don’t be too harsh on him, Ruthay. Some people deserve to die. I will summon him–” “Wait! Be warned, Shang Tsung. He is cursed!” “Cursed? By whom?” Ruthay wailed, “By the immortal Yu.” Shang Tsung felt cold spiders crawl up his spine. “The demigod Yu?” “Yes… he who is said to dwell in the underground caverns of Horse Ear Mountain… which is sacred to the goddess Kuan Lin. He who protects the canals… and the tunnels… and looks after all who use them, human and animal.” “What did our brash friend do to Yu?” “He… killed a man,” said Ruthay. “What man?” “A toll-taker… one who had given up a life of crime… one who had been a partner of the man… you… seek.” “And how did that crime come to the attention of the spirit of Yu?” Shang Tsung asked. “The man was killed… slowly disemboweled with a sword… while accomplices forced his wife and his son to look on! After his murder… the man’s remains… were dumped into a canal!” Shang Tsung raised an eyebrow. “Is that all? I was expecting something truly terrible!” “It was!” Ruthay shrieked. “When he disposed of the body… in that way … he profaned one of the sacred waterways… of Yu!” Shang Tsung smiled now. “Then he is definitely the man I want,” he said. “Anyone who is impudent enough to insult a demigod won’t be afraid to attack a member of the White Lotus Society, or the gods who watch after them. I will send Hamachi, Ruthay. When he nears his goal, see through his eyes and guide him!”
Opening the door, the wizard pushed past the two hooded souls that were attending to the many birds in the palace aviary. The bulk of the collection of birds from around the world, and their ornate cages of balsa and steel, of bamboo and ivory, of twigs and even string, was for Shang Tsung’s own enjoyment. He luxuriated in the specimens, which ranged from the common nightingale to the imposing pine grosbeak, from the rufous-sided towhee to the glorious yellow warbler, from the black vulture to the red-tailed hawk. But some of the birds were kept more for practical purposes. His falcons were trained to fly to the mainland and kill with claws of poison, while his beautiful white pigeons were trained to carry messages to spots all across eastern China. Going to a small writing table tucked in a corner of the stone chamber, Shang Tsung lit a candle, dipped a fountain pen in red ink, and wrote in small, tight characters on a slip of rice paper: LIU KANG AND TWO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE WHITE LOTUS SOCIETY ARE CAMPED TO THE WEST OF WUHU, HEADED EAST TO INTERCEPT A BAND OF BLACK DRAGONS. THESE INTERLOPERS MUST BE STOPPED. YOU ARE MY LAST HOPE. RETURN THE BIRD WITH A TOKEN SO I WILL KNOW THAT YOU HAVE GONE AFTER THEM. SHANG TSUNG After finishing the message, the sorcerer went over to one of the cages, carefully removed a pigeon, rolled the paper around its right leg, and fixed it there with a length of red string. Holding the bird in both hands, he made his way under and around the many cages to the window. The black shutters of the window were closed, and one of the hooded servants scuttled over, released the catch, and threw it open. Shang Tsung bent close to the bird and said softly, “I know you won’t fail me as my fellow humans have, devoted Hamachi. Fly true and take my urgent message to the region you know so well. Ruthay will see through your eyes and guide you from there. Then return to me, my delicate servant. Come back safely and soon, and I will offer up a human sacrifice to you.” With a last look into the black-pearl eyes of his precious messenger, Shang Tsung threw the pigeon out the window and watched the bird bat its white wings until it was swallowed by the starlit sky. “Fly, my precious. Fly! You who do not need the waterways, the tunnels, or the favor of the arrogant Yu to accomplish your mission!”
He dwelt in a cave two hundred feet up the face of a cliff by the sea. The mouth of his home was barely wide enough to accommodate a slender adult, and was accessible only by climbing the sheer wall of rock, a feat that was impossible for most adults and daunting even to the few arachnids and marsupials that tried it. Maybe some of them were even sent by Yu, he thought with a smirk, little assassins who would chastise me for having spilled blood in his precious canal. The smirk faded as he thought back to the murder. The blood of a traitor… one who took the oath and then turned his back on us. One it had taken two decades to find. The traitor Yong Park had committed the ultimate crime: even if Yu himself crawled into the cave, he would find the killer unrepentant and willing to kill the former ninja again. The cave was located two hundred miles south of Shimura Island, though it was still hours before dawn when the pigeon reached it. Landing in the narrow mouth, the bird cooed once then stood still, as it had been trained to do. The ninja was awake and beside it in an instant, crouched beneath a ceiling that didn’t allow for him to stand. Dressed only in a white loincloth, despite the cold floor and chill air in the cave. He was reading the message by moonlight a moment later. A smile crossed his lips, lips so pale and claylike that they appeared dead. His small, very narrow eyes looked from the message to the bird to the moonlight that lit just the entrance of his dark abode. He ran the back of an index finger up and down the bird’s breast. “Good Hamachi. Return to your master so he will know that I have received his message and am on my way to do his bidding. For a price, of course,” he said. He glanced at the several pyramid-shaped stacks of scrolls in the rear of his cave. His fee was another manuscript from Shang Tsung’s library, one of the many scrolls that were centuries old, dating back to the dawn of the days of the first ninjitsu and containing arcane secrets of the league of assassins to which he belonged, the widely-feared Lin Kuei.

List of canon changes in my au.
So I did a post something similar to this one about how my au is different from the canon but this time it going to less structure and more rant like. I am not trying to compare my au to the neatherrealm timeline or trying to be a better writer than NRS just making an au for fun.
.Kind of a change to my au (I kind of forgot what I did previously with the timeline.) This follows the event similarly to the original timeline but only the arcade era and after that it sort of stagnates a little bit into being a fusion of mkx and deception but that not set in stone. Different factors from different timelines will be implemented depending on how much I like them.
.Kung lao is similar to his mk1 counterpart but more humble
. Raiden is more based on the 95 movie raiden and dotr raiden
.Kenshi joined the special forces much earlier and did so out personal reasons with his mother side of the family being held captive by the black dragon through the yakuza
.Kenshi has his Eurasian background from the og timeline
.Johnny and Sonya are married permanently. The did just get married because Sonya was pregnant but the did fall in love while having Cassie. It was messy trying to raise her as either had any experience dealing with kids but they learned along the way
. Frost real name here is Holly (yes I know that not her canon name this is canon changes to an au and yes I know the name is stupid and lazy but I busy with homework and job hunting so cut me some slack)
.Frost does compete in underground fighting but there not hosted by the black dragon and there no to the death fights
.Johnny , Sonya and Liu Kang are all closed friends (there still the first fighters for earthrealm) who hang out a lot of the time. Johnny enjoys dragging Sonya and Liu around Hollywood, Sonya acts like the one in charge and makes sure the boys aren't in any trouble and Liu is the peacekeeper and makes sure neither Johnny nor Sonya are overly stressed out
.Syzoth currently in the story appears reptilian up until the outworld's invasion where he gets stranded in earthrealm and has to take a human disguise
.Mileena is a clone but unlike her original counterparts, after multiple arcs that I have not even begun to write out yet, they Kitana accepts her as her sister
.Jerrod is inside of Ermac but he never takes control of the collective and is more like Ermac conscience guiding him into specific decisions like protecting Kitana
.Wraiths appear more human the more time the spend out of the neatherrealm but wraith like appearances will show up if there distress or with highten emotions
. Just like in mkx Erron Black is an immortal cowboy who travels all over the realm and is currently the only person besides raiden to hop onto different realms though he not will the share that information with anybody.
. Instead of Suarians originating from earthrealm and moving to zaterria, it the opposite way around with them being originally from zaterria but after outworld invade fleed to earthrealm and hid refugee underground. As the stayed in earthrealm, the evolved to become more versitile in shapeshifting to a point where they can mimic powers which leads to the creation of Khameleon
. Sektor is female while Cyrax is male. Sektor did have some romantic relation with Bi Han for a short while but it end very quickly
. Jax is a little bit older than the rest of the earthrealm fighters(something along the lines of early 30s to most earthrealm fighters early to mid 20s)
.Quan chi is more powerful. What I mean by that is that he could probably take an army on by himself with little to no resistance and he be a lot more powerful than scorpion and noob saibot combine
. Before finding Bi han or Kuai Liang, Sareena found Cyrax first and managed to bring the humanity out of him from... I don't know attacking his lingering soul which caused it to take control on his mechanical body and now have a sort of alliance with each other
. Vaterrians aren't extinct or endangered but are used a slaves until Nitara started a revolution
. Saibot has free will and acts as his own entity
.In the future events when the kombat kids form Cassie is more along the lines of a wrestler while Jacaqui fights with tech. Inspired by @zxid art of them and concept art of Cassie.
. Skarlet is raised with Kitana and Mileena and while she doesn't exactly turn to the side of good with Kitana and Mileena, she does remain neutral and has a okay sisterly relationship with them
.The only difference between a a demons true form and human disguise is that of appearance. Physically and power wise there the exact same no matter which form their at
.Shao is a god just like raiden
.D'vorah doesn't exist here. Kytinn exist here and are minor race but D'vorah isn't here
.Kotal does exist and was a general for Shao but he doesn't try to take the thrown of kahn instead was more interested in finding and regrouping his people
. Shujinko doesn't become an old man
.currently Ashrah had the kris but has not made her way out of the netherrealm yet
.Tomas is cybernized but his programing is a bit unstable due to his possesion on enenra and in the future when Tomas is brought back, it into a human body while his cybernized body in possed by enenra
.Hanzo is attractive. Thats it. Why does he have to be attractive? Just cause
And that all that I have current apart of mykung au although more stuff might be added later down the line. What do you guys thing. Please put your feedback, criticism, helping ideas and prompt down in the comments(seriously please put them down. I need ideas and I have no idea what I'm doing. every now and then I get these waves of ideas and then my minds completely blank for weeks) Also I promise I'll try to post more about this au as often as I can with all this school work along with other ideas for other series an fandoms I have. Currently I'm thinking of two over aus , one being my own transformers fan continuity and one being an alternate universe in marvel.

Mortal Kombat (2021 alternate universe)
My alternate universe based on the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie and its upcoming sequel have quite a number of differences from the actual movies.
For one, there is no Arcana or Dragon markings.
Cole Young is a better developed character. He's still an MMA fighter down on his luck with a family he needs to provide for, but he still wins some fights. He gets an invitation to the Mortal Kombat tournament, and enters to provide for his wife and daughter. He soon discovers his connection with Scorpion, who is unwillingly Quan Chi's fighter.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero have their roles swapped. Bi Han still has corruption in his soul, but it's similar to Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero where he is struggling to overcome the darkness. Scorpion eventually kills him, and that's what leads to his transformation into Noob Saibot.
Kuai Liang enters the picture during the 2nd installment, and he wants revenge on Scorpion, but Cole is trying to redeem Hanzo Hasashi, and this ultimately has them butting heads. Eventually, they put their differences aside to save Earthrealm.
Liu Kang is the main character again, and he's much more rebellious (think Robin Shou in 1995). He enters the tournament wanting revenge for his family while Kung Lao wants to honor GKL. Liu Kang puts his vengeance aside, and ends up killing Goro to become champion. He beats Shang Tsung, but lets him go after learning that Chan is alive. This sets up Chan being in the 2nd installment as a brainwashed Outworld fighter (it's also based on Hornbuckle from MK2).
Much like my general fan works, I did think of having Sonya be the love interest of Liu Kang, especially due to their similar personalities and goals in this take. Things only get harder after Liu Kang becomes champion, and he still yearns for a normal life, especially with Sonya.
Jax still gets the metal arms, but now, he'll get them in the 2nd installment. For the first tournament, I did think of having him fight with his regular arms before he eventually gets them torn off by Goro (a la Scorpion's Revenge). He gets the metal arms via tech from the Special Forces.
Kano also has the metal eye, which he got after Jax punched his regular eye out like in MK Legacy. He is still a delightful scumbag, but he is not aligned with the Earthrealm heroes. I did think of Kabal being in the tournament alongside him, but he certainly does not trust Kano 100%.
Mileena dies in the first tournament, but Kitana steps in during MK2. At this point, she believes that Mileena was her sister and that Shao Kahn is her father, but Kitana eventually learns the truth and starts to rebel against the forces of Outworld. She also seeks to free Sindel, who has been revived by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi's dark magic. Jade is also unwillingly fighting for Outworld, but she helps Kitana discover the truth.
Johnny Cage is introduced during MK2 after he gets attacked by Baraka and his soldiers during a film shoot. None of the other Earthrealm warriors take him seriously due to his cocky personality, but he ends up becoming a worthy defender. Much like Cole with Allison and Emily, Cage provides for Cassie, who is a young girl at this point in the timeline.
Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung are the main threats at the moment as they want to merge Earthrealm with Outworld. Some of their fighters include mix of characters from the games and OCs made for this timeline (mostly to go with the fact that Cole was created for the movie).
That is all for now. More is definitely koming soon.

Seasonal Flames - Spring
Shang Tsung x Quan Chi
Masterlist
Summary -
Quan Chi’s eyes bore into Shang’s skull, his intense eye contact making his spouse glance away.
“My soul was yours the moment you looked in my eyes.”
Word Count - 2496
Warnings - none, for now
A/N - this is an A/U based on a song I enjoy :)
Outworld is known to be a place with great wealth, beauty, and knowledge. Its rich history dates back eons. Outworld's capital, Sun Do, is perhaps the most serene place in all the realms. Home to the golden palace that housed Empress Sindel and her daughters, Mileena and Kitana, Sun Do glows with unmatched elegance. One couldn't forget that with Outworld's beauty, comes the pain and suffering of those not fortunate enough to catch the eyes of the Empress herself. Sun Do rests on the backs of citizens who were forced to sculpt every statue, lay every tile, and sew every expensive garment, all while eating scraps and wearing tattered clothes. Shunned by the rich and wealthy, Outworld's poor were scattered along the outskirts of the realm, hidden from outsiders so they wouldn't embarrass the royal family and tarnish the realm's gorgeous reputation.
Outworld’s spring arrives in one such outskirt in unwanted fashion; a thunderstorm cascades upon the timeworn streets of the weathered town, its cobblestones glistening under the heavy rain and tears of the unhoused. Each drop, a melancholic sonnet, whispers secrets of forgotten villagers, only to be drowned out by the rumbling growl of thunder. Here, time dances to the rhythm of the dark weather, a symphony of nature's lament. The town’s insignificant population breathes as a collective – inhabitants all seek refuge from the thunder's booming cadence, retreating into the safety of their homes like ships seeking harbor in the storm. The streets lie deserted, abandoned by the hustle and bustle of daily life. Grumbles come from many homes; angry, the weather forces them to discard the day’s work, further exhausting what little funds they have.
Many houses are dark, the villagers seeing no use in wasting candle wax and firewood – instead using the opportunity to catch up on much needed sleep, or letting the rain drown out blissed out cries shared by lovers. One house stands out, ignoring the rain and choosing to illuminate the immediate area with soft orange light. The fireplace inside roars, but its sound is nothing but a kitten’s meow compared to the lion’s shriek of the thunder. Two hands carefully look over the flames. Tending to a fire involves a delicate dance of care and attention, a ritual as old as time itself. As the flames crackle and flicker, casting their warm glow upon the surroundings, its caretaker approaches with reverence, bearing a long metal rod in hand. With a free hand, he places a small log onto a pile of wood, watching as it immediately darkens. The caretaker leans in close, feeling the heat radiate against his skin. He adjusts the logs, arranging them just so, coaxing the fire to burn brighter, fiercer; asking the heat to warm his face just a bit more. Sparks rise like tiny stars into the air.
“Any closer and your hair will catch fire, Shang Tsung.”
The caretaker – Shang Tsung – turns his head to see his lover, Quan Chi, entering their shared common room; in hand, carrying a teapot and two saucers. He sets them on the floor and sits next to Shang, quickly admiring how the fire’s glow paints over his soft features. Quan Chi expects an eyeroll, a scoff, any negative reaction to his comment, but Shang quietly returns his eyes to the flames, seemingly caught in the fire’s trance.
“Nonsense,” he mutters, just barely shuffling away from the fireplace. “I am not that close.”
Quan Chi lets out an amused huff. He reaches over to Shang and pulls his hair back, gently wrapping it in a ponytail with a shiny black ribbon. Stubborn strands of hair fly away from the ribbon, framing Shang’s face. Quan Chi chooses to ignore them and places a kiss on his lover’s shoulder. “The tea grows cold…”
“Only because you choose to waste your breath on foolish scenarios.” Shang finally pulls away from the fire’s grip, turning his back to the flames and giving his full attention to Quan Chi. He places both hands in his lap and fiddles with the gold band wrapped around his finger. Quan Chi sported a similar band, crafted by him decades prior when he and Shang vowed to spend the rest of their long Edenian lifespans together.
“You are a fool, Shang Tsung, if you consider my concerns to be foolish.” Quan Chi sets teacups in front of himself and Shang and carefully pours an equal amount of black tea in both. “What am I to do if you break your vows to me by carelessly setting yourself aflame?”
“Collect rainwater and douse me,” a quick response – expected from a tongue as sharp as Shang’s.
“You’ll burn to a crisp before a bucket fills halfway. A shame you’ll be the first of us to go.” Quan Chi feigns a sorrowful expression and stares at the ground.
“Quiet down and drink your tea,” Shang hisses in reply, his soft eyes revealing the lack of anger in his words. He picks up his own cup and gently blows the liquid, watching it ripple. Shang’s eye catches a slight rim in the cup. His hand moves the cup to his lips, they slightly spread and allow the tea to fall on his tongue. Indeed, the tea had chilled during their conversation, but it hadn’t cooled enough to make the experience unpleasurable. Its warmth comforted his soul, akin to how the fire warms his skin.
Quan Chi and Shang sit and choose not to speak, instead allowing the booming thunderstorm and roaring fireplace to fill the air. The sounds soothe them both as their bodies wind down, signaling the need for a nap. Their eyes meet, two sets of deep brown irises pooling together and refusing to let go, speaking volumes in the silent language of love. They cradle the delicate porcelain cups and raise them to their lips, taking another sip. Quan Chi’s face suddenly twists into disgust. Shang only raises an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Dull. We are out of honey and without it, my tea is dull.” Quan Chi looks out the window, watching lightning take its anger out on an innocent tree. “I was to make a visit to the markets and purchase another bottle.”
His eyes snap back to his lover when he hears a laugh. “You are not serious.” Another laugh escapes. “Why make tea if you are unable to handle its unadulterated taste? Water, wine…” he trails off. “Yes, we could be enjoying anything else. Why tea?”
Quan Chi slightly shrugs before downing the last of his tea, shivering at the bitter taste. “I was reminded of the day we met.”
Shang tilts his head in confusion and curiosity. “That is sudden.”
"The day our fates intertwined, a century past, within the hallowed halls of the Sun Do teahouse; it rained then, too. Both of us found sanctuary within those ancient walls." Quan Chi’s eyes bore into Shang’s skull, his intense eye contact making his spouse glance away. “My soul was yours the moment you looked in my eyes.”
Shang is silent. The sudden confession brings in a wave of emotions that try to break down his spirit like water rushing a dam. His body aches as his chest tightens and love gnaws at every fiber of his being. Their first meeting was a memory locked deep in his mind, the thought now making him unconsciously play with his wedding ring. “And I will never let it go.”
Quan Chi opens his arms and Shang accepts the invitation, quickly crashing into his beloved. Their hearts soar; beating fast, but beating as one. The fireplace, angry at being forgotten, dies out. The fading glow is replaced with eyes that could only shine when looking at a lover. They lean in, taking each other in a soft, quick kiss. Shang presses a kiss to Quan Chi’s jaw before hiding his face in his lover’s neck. Quan Chi notices the dead fire and hums.
“I suppose this is our cue to clean our mess.”
“Your mess,” Shang yawns, “I was not the one responsible for brewing sentimental tea.”
Quan Chi rolls his eyes before separating himself from Shang, grabbing the teapot and cups before standing. “Go and rest, I will join momentarily.”
Shang only nods in response, slowly lifting his body off the ground and dragging himself to the bedroom. It wasn’t much; a mattress that showed signs of aging, a small dresser that held their clothes, a desk with books Shang’s read three times over, and a pile of dirty laundry that Quan Chi swears he’ll get to soon. Shang collects enough strength to light a candle next to his bed before collapsing into the sheets. He stares at the candle, its fire almost growing taller than the wax itself. He makes a mental note to buy another candle as soon as possible. Shang sees Quan Chi enter their bedroom from the corner of his eye. He yawns, not bothering to look at his husband.
“We will need another very soon.”
Quan Chi could almost laugh. “One fire goes out, so you immediately light another.”
“They please me.”
“Why?”
A shrug; Quan Chi can’t figure out if Shang doesn’t know the answer or if he simply doesn’t feel like giving one. Quan Chi walks over to the bed and lays next to Shang, sighing as he feels his body relax. The two are silent, choosing to listen to the sound of thunder rumbling. Rain beats down on the window like bullets, and yet its sound is able to lull Quan Chi to a half-asleep state. Through heavy eyes he stares at Shang, whose back faces him. He sighs knowing he won’t be able to drag his lover’s eyes away from the burning candle. Quan Chi inches forward just enough to wrap an arm around Shang’s waist. It wasn’t often the two cuddled before bed, Shang complains about Quan Chi being too warm to hold, and Quan Chi complains about Shang moving too much.
As expected, Shang squirms a bit at the sudden contact. “We will both overheat like this.”
Quan Chi slightly lifts his head and blows enough air to kill the candle’s flame. “There,” he closes his eyes and pulls Shang closer to his chest. “The threat of overheating is gone.”
“You know very well that is not what I-”
“Hush. Sleep. Maybe the gods will fill your dreams with arson.”
Shang almost rolls his eyes out of his skull – but is quick to comply. Dreams of sitting by a fireplace doesn’t sound bad.
In the quiet aftermath of the angry thunderstorm, the clear morning comes in peacefully. Outworld’s citizens were slow to resume their usual activities, not wanting to deal with puddles and muddy grounds. Animals dance and celebrate the return of the sun. They sing songs of freedom as they search for their first meal of the day. Through a small window, the sun is able to light the bedroom with a golden hue. The light gently caresses Quan Chi’s face, encouraging him to wake up. He is slow to open his eyes, wishing the darkness the thunderstorm brought would return. His hand reaches up to rub his eyes, shaking the bleariness out. When they refocus on the environment, he realizes the bed is empty. Shang Tsung nowhere to be seen.
Quan Chi groans and lifts the blanket, wincing when the warmth leaves his body. Heavy feet haul his body out the bedroom and in search of his spouse. His first thought is the kitchen, thinking that Shang would most likely be eating breakfast, but finds the room empty upon entering. He sighs and leaves to search somewhere else. Quan Chi walks from room to room – no Shang. He almost panics but stops when he hears a faint voice outside. He walks closer to the entrance, hearing the voice get louder. His hand opens the door to see Shang swaying his body to the beat of an imaginary drum.
Quan Chi can’t place the song that blesses his ears. It was soft and sweet; a pleasant morning gift. He racks his brain to see if he could remember its tune, but each new lyric cements its unfamiliarity. With a breath of joy, Shang sings of spring’s arrival with the chirping birds; his tenor and their soprano blending to create a beautiful harmony. Every note flies and weaves through the air like a gentle breeze. Quan Chi smiles and stays put, it wasn’t often that he got to hear his lover sing.
“Your voice is beautiful,” Quan Chi cuts in as soon as he hears the song fading. He shoots an unapologetic smile when Shang jumps in surprise. Shang saunters over to him and is immediately wrapped in a strong embrace. “Why are you outside so early?”
Shang shakes his left arm, bringing attention to the small bag he had in hand. “I woke up with a troubled mind; I went to the market to soothe my anguish.”
Quan Chi looks at Shang with concern. “Why didn’t you wake me if you were struggling?”
“There was no need,” Shang reaches into the bag to pull out a small item wrapped in protective paper. “Open it.”
Quan Chi takes the item and slowly unwraps it, making sure to be gentle. The paper tears to reveal a porcelain teacup, adorned with gold embellishments. He looks at Shang with a confused expression – only getting an impassive look in return. “Your mind was troubled…and a teacup set you at ease?”
“Last night my cup was chipped. If I didn’t replace it, I would’ve lost my mind.” Shang takes the teacup from Quan Chi and cradles it in his hands, as if he was testing it out. His slender fingers compliment the porcelain well. “I felt broken. This,” he raises the cup so Quan Chi can get a better look at its details, “makes me feel whole again.”
“You are the strangest person in all the realms, Shang Tsung.”
“And that is why you made me yours, Quan Chi,” Shang smirks, walking past Quan Chi and making his way to the door. He hesitates as he goes to open the door. His head turns to his lover, his face hardening.
“Tell me, Quan Chi,” he pauses, thinking how to phrase what he wants to say. “If someday I no longer had this beautiful voice, would you still, even then, love me?”
Quan Chi raises an eyebrow. He, once again, searches Shang’s face for an explanation, an emotion behind his question. When was Shang ever insecure in Quan Chi’s love for him? Did he not show it enough? He walks up to Shang, hand stroking his cheek. He places a kiss on Shang’s temple.
“Of course.” another kiss.
Shang smiles, the positive reply and kiss pleasing him. He finally opens the door and grabs Quan Chi’s hand. “Come,” he says, leading his lover inside, “I will sing for you whilst we make breakfast.”
Quan Chi quickly nods. “I would like that.”

I ship Kitana with Johnny and Kenshi, but I'm excited to see someone else who's down for a poly Kitana ship. Tell me more about Kitana/Raiden/Kung Lao!
this ship doesn’t have much thought behind it 😭 but it is sorta based on the fact that I see some of the Railao angst including Kitana and I was like what if They we’re all happily together and holding hands?
And also Blue/Red ship?? Adorable and its Dark blue,Light blue and they’re Red!
Also A princess and her two guards???? And Kung Lao crushing on Raiden and Kitana with Raiden crushing hard on him while also developing a Crush on Kitana and then Kitana developing a Crush on Both of them without really noticing until seeing them again.
like imagine Kung lao and Raiden ranting to eachother about their crushes (without telling eachother whos the crush) and then Kitana sitting on her bed with Mileena and Tanya rambling about how she fell inlove with two Earthrelamers
-heres some Headcanons I have for them :)-
Kitanas love language is Quality time, Kung Laos is Psychical touch, and Raiden is words of affirmation (they all have a hint of acts of service)
Kitana and Kung Lao really like holding hands and Raiden will never understand why
Raiden likes to give them tea whenever they seem stressed and his action alone eases them
Kung Lao likes to blow a few sakura blossoms at Raiden and Kitana whenever they seem to be talking together and he walks by
Kitana likes to write them letters and have Liu Kang send the letters to them
Raiden sometime uses a Staff and Kung Lao will use a sword! Kitana wrapped a Red ribbon around the end of Raidens Staff and a Blue one on Kung Laos sword
They all like sitting closely together on a couch and no one can figure out why
Thats all my brain can figure out rn!
they are very silly and I love them smm
#i just think they're neat#mortal kombat#kitana x raiden#kung lao x kitana#kitana#kung lao#kung lao x raiden#railao#raiden x kung lao#raiden#headcanon#ramblings#im losing my mind

Mileena: Thoughts and Opinions
These are my thoughts and opinions on Mortal Kombat that a bunch of people probably won't care about, but I thought I should post them here. Now I will be using past games as reference, even though every character's interpretation/counterpart is different, they still play part to the canon storyline.
[Warning: This post is very long. Revealing cosplay.]
I always saw Mileena as eccentric rather than crazy. The eating people thing? She's not human and is a fang faced creature, we are not to be surprised.
Appearance: Now before Mkx the female characters were sexualized for marketing purposes, but a lot of the fandom recognises Mileena to be the go to when it comes to sexualization. Even when Mkx took the designs more seriously Mileena still has that flare of... marketing. In mk11 that goes out of the window. Now mind you, I like the costumes and skins for Mileena in this game, I'm a sucker for kimonos, and that kimono still has a titty window and comes off as more revealing than Kitana's. Even when you put Mileena next to Kitana, knowing what she looks like without the mask, she's still seen as the 'hotter one' out of the two.
I think it's just the fact they babied her. And when I say they babied her I don't just mean her childish attitude that is significantly different to mk9, I'm talking about her face model. In another post I headcanoned that Kitana is 17-19 in human years because I genuinely believe she looks like she's around that age. In the previous games Kitana and Mileena both look like they are in their mid to late 20's which is how they were able to get sexualized.
Because of the redesigns I think it retconned the interactions that took place between the characters.
Ships
I find it bizarre that most of the male roster roasts the hell out of her, yet have an undertone of flirting based on interactions I've seen. Now, that's probably me being delusional and pulling at strings just to make a ship happen, but it's there.
Mileena + Kung Lao (If I'm feeling bold), Liu Kang (If I'm feeling bolder), Kuai Liang, Hanzo (childhood ship), Takeda ("You can look but you can't touch"), Stryker (watched Sonic XD's mk9 sucks video), Erron Black (I mean he did date Nitara and Skarlet), Bi Han/Noob Saibot
Out of all these ships I've listed I feel the most strongly about shipping her with Bi Han. It's mainly because of a post I saw, which was based on a meme.
Kitana: Am I ugly?
Liu Kang: No.
Mileena: Am I ugly
Bi Han/Noob Saibot: Yes.
Mileena and Bi Han are dating in this meme, btw. I think it was built on the fact that Bi Han can see her for the tarkatan she is but it doesn't disturb him. I don't think he goes out of his way to mock her, either, he's merely analytical of her. Following one of my headcanons, he takes things literal, meaning he has no intentions of harming her emotionally.
Yes, I ship him and Sereena, but I like to try new things.
"We have met before." - Mileena
"In the Netherrealm, where I consumed your soul." - Bi Han/Noob Saibot
That wasn't supposed to sound sweet, but it did. To me. There's also this video.
They both have sibling problems and were killed unfairly. Mileena's crown was snatched from her while Bi Han was made a slave alongside Scorpion. You know, the guy that killed him. They fought Kabal together.
Oh, and they can both teleport :).
It could be argued that Noob has a better chance with Skarlet since she reminds him of Sereena, but I like her interactions with Sub Zero.
I'm starting to think I should write a yandere Liu Kang/Kung Lao x Mileena (one sided), I mean Kung Lao wanted Kitana too so he could see Mileena as some kind of replacement.
Family:
I think Shao Kahn does feel some kind of fatherly attachment to her, although I headcanon that he's a narcissistic father. In Mk11 story mode he was ready to kill D'Vorah the second he found out she killed Mileena. Protective dad. I think some of it comes from the father-daughter bond he has with Kitana. While Shao Kahn did say that he kept her around just to appease Sindel, he had no need to do that after her death, so he technically adopted Kitana just because he could. And then teenage rebellion kicked in and he had her replaced by Mileena.
"Where's this boldness been hiding, Kitana? Had you shown it before, I'd have no need for Mileena." I think Shao Kahn did care for Kitana but not in a way that his mind can fully address. But he prefers Mileena, as she's the version of Kitana that won't betray him. Even though Mileena was created as a replacement he still recognised her as an heir, and his daughter.
I also think Shao Kahn can't produce children... I mean I still see Skarlet as his adopted child. Dude's straight up just picking up daughters.
Shao Kahn being a dad:
"Raiden chooses champions poorly." - Shao Kahn
"This from the man who chose Mileena?" - Liu Kang
"Do not mock my daughter!" - Shao Kahn
-----
"Those who betray me suffer, Black." - Shao Kahn
"Our contract died when you did." - Erron Black
"You should've served Mileena." - Shao Kahn
-----
"You'll pay for Mileena, D'Vorah." - Shao Kahn
"This one did Outworld a service." - D'Vorah
"And so shall I." - Shao Kahn
-----
"With Sindel's return our family is complete." - Shao Kahn to Mileena
-----
"Daughter, you have returned." - Shao Kahn
"To reclaim my place at your side from Skarlet." - Mileena
"First prove yourself her better." - Shao Kahn
Yeah, he's a narcissistic parent.
-----
"You didn't teach me blood magic." - Mileena
"Sorcery is Skarlet's gift, not yours." - Shao Kahn
"You'd never know, you never gave me a chance." - Mileena
That sounds like sibling jealousy, Skarlet was certainly adopted.
-----
"Back from the dead, I see." - Rain
"You must answer for scheming against Mileena." - Shao Kahn
"Your daughter got exactly what she deserved." - Rain
-----
Bonus: Kitana
Kitana is just so out of pocket. Now to be fair, she reacted in a way that is understandable. If I found out someone cloned me and I was face to face with that clone I would freak out too. But it's what happens afterwards. Kitana claimed that Mileena attacked her when it was the other way around.
Now if we follow the events of mk9 and not the events that came before it, Kitana never got to even know Mileena, so that comment was uncalled for. Not only that, but Mileena was welcoming towards Kitana upon first meeting her. While she was created to replace Kitana, that was not her priority when she woke up and saw Kitana for the first time. It's very clear that Kitana has absorbed Shao Kahn's narcissistic habits.
Now with some interactions:
"You're more my sister than Mileena." - Kitana
"So why must we fight again?" - Jade
"Where there are siblings there is rivalry." - Kitana
-----
"I don't suppose you have a sister." - Kung Lao
"There is only Mileena." - Kitana
"Thank you. I'll pass." - Kung Lao
I think Kitana actually carries pride over being the pretty one. I also think she took pleasure in making Kung Lao uncomfortable.
-----
"You will be queen of the damned." - Noob Saibot
"That honour is Mileena's" - Kitana
Out of pocket, no one said Mileena's name yet Kitana brought her up just to insult her.
-----
Skarlet and Mileena should've had a bond of some kind that wasn't antagonistic. I already wrote a post about this some years ago on my old Tumblr account, but I deleted it so I have to start over with this post. In Skarlet's original story (before the retcon) she was created in the flesh pits and even appears a few times during the mk9 story mode, so by that alone Mileena and Skarlet have a connection.
In the retcon Shao Kahn is the one to teach Skarlet blood magic, but I always saw sorcery as Shang Tsung's speciality since Shao Kahn has his kingly duties to fulfil so I think it would be much more fitting if Shang Tsung taught her under Shao Kahn's orders, that way her and Shang Tsung have a bond of their own being teacher and student to compliment the fact that he created her back in mk9.
Now, Kitana has Jade so it was an opportunity to have an evil doppelganger situation with Mileena and Skarlet. They both like gore, they both hate Kitana because Kitana was mean to them, and they both don't like Jade. They both also have a thing for Sub Zero, which means they have similar tastes. They should get along. And for them to not get along I think it should've been the normal sibling dynamic where they would easily get into fights and do little things that annoy the other, but deep down are fond of each other. Something that counters Kitana and Jade's you're like a sister to me that you don't see real siblings experience.
If we're gonna follow the fact that they should get along, then Skarlet could've been the cool older sister. She had a boyfriend (Erron), she is good at what she does, and she's just as feral as Mileena but is more laid back. I can picture her helping Mileena with her makeup and her training. The sister that Kitana never was and refuses to be. On Skarlet's part it could be a thing where she remembered how it felt for Kitana to belittle her and for Jade to shun her for not being Edenian, and decides that she refuses to be the same to Mileena.
I have said a bunch of times that Shao Kahn sort of adopted Skarlet or sees her as a child of his. He took her away from the streets because she showed fire, and that's how a lot of adoptions go from what I heard, there's something about the kid that sparks something in that parent. But I think because Skarlet doesn't have royal blood and is a street urchin is what doesn't make her worthy of the title of daughter in Shao Kahn's eyes even if the bond is potentially there.
As much as I would love them to get along, Skarlet is jealous of Mileena. The fact that a clone was able to be given the title 'daughter' in a blink of an eye in comparison to Skarlet who had been serving him for more than centuries. "Shao Kahn needs no more Kitana clones!" is her way of saying that she wants to be recognised, loved and appreciated. "A pity you will never be his daughter." from Shang Tsung wasn't just any statement, he can see that this street urchin orphan who will not be mourned wants a parental figure in her life, and that unfortunately became Shao Kahn. There could've been the potential that it would be Shang Tsung, but we all know what he's like, he would see her as nothing more than a student who wants something more.
Skarlet lusts for power, and I theorise it is because she's trying to fill a hole, which is common in people who lack certain things in their life such as emotional stability and parental support. Having power will give her that sense of control over her life, supposedly.
Following my headcanon that Skarlet desiring Skao Kahn is a sign of her insanity, her need for security, appreciation and love has been perverted by the very thing that gives her power. Poor Skarlet.

Mortal Kombat Deity! AU: The Gods
I finally got around to finishing up the foundations for the gods in my AU. I’m pretty happy with what I’ve got so far, and my OC makes an appearance too.
(For my post about the demigods, check here: The Demigods.)
Geras, the Eon
As old as time itself, Geras is considered a Primordial, and is the impartial observer of the world’s movements and machinations. His role is to keep time moving without any hindrances or glitches.
He appoints new gods each era based on the way they acted in their past lives, watching them live through the Hourglass (an entity separate to his chronomagic.)
A sucker for fine arts, Geras can usually be found wandering in museums and art galleries whenever he chooses to visit the mortal plane.
Liu Kang, the Creator
As the god of creation, Liu Kang shares an interesting power balance with Geras - while Creation requires Time to complete, Time cannot exist without Creation.
In the mortal plane, his main motifs are a pair of dragons - one of them breathing fire - to symbolise how he can be benevolent and malevolent; a large statue of this motif sits in the centre of the village he patrons.
The villagers of Fengjian have chosen him to be their patron god, at the request of his demigods in the Defenders of Earthrealm.
Shang Tsung and Tora, the Cycle of Life and Death
Shang Tsung represents death and has the moniker “Lifestealer”, Tora represents Life and has the moniker “Lifegiver”.
Both of them are responsible for the collection and transfer of souls to their next resting place - the mortal plane represents their power to do this using skulls and butterflies.
The mortal plane also represents them as twin snakes coiled at the base of Liu Kang’s statues to symbolise their protection of him and their readiness to strike unpredictably.
Sub-Zero and Scorpion, the Seasons
Brothers in charge of their respective season and Grandmasters of the groups that carry out the transition - Sub-Zero leads the Lin Kuei as the Winter cohort, Scorpion leads the Shirai Ryu as the Summer cohort. They have a third brother, Smoke, who represents the transition between the seasons.
They each have temples in the realm of the gods in a place called Season’s End; Sub-Zero’s stands taller while Scorpion’s covers more ground as apt representations of their temperatures.
The mortal plane has two festivals a year - one to commemorate each season - where they make offerings in the hope that these appease the Seasons so that they aren’t so harsh when their time comes.
Sindel, the Judge
As the embodiment of judgement, Sindel assesses the souls that are then passed on to Shang Tsung and Tora for appropriation.
She has two daughters, Mileena and Kitana - demigods who rule the mortal plane. She refuses to acknowledge Mileena’s Tarkat condition.
Her hair is both her weapon and her main vanity.

My MK1 Fatalities Tier List (Main Roster)
Note: The placements are based on the average rating of both fatalities. For example, if I gave a character an S and a B then they would go to an A rank since that would be the average. Also, if rankings are next to each other then I will round up to the higher rank. For instance, I gave Li Mei an S and an A for her fatalities so she would go to the S rank since I'm rounding the overall rating to the higher one.
