obviously you gotta have some awareness of your situation but as someone who travels alone with some regularity and is assumed to be a woman... it's fine. like it's literally fine. I watch women shrink away from the possibility of conversation with strangers at the bus stop or hotel lobby or hiking trail. I get told I'm brave for traveling alone. and I get it, sexual harassment is no small thing, a tiny percentage of people are murdered by strangers, but like. statistically. men are more likely to be attacked or mugged in public spaces. women are far more likely to face assault and violence from friends or partners than strangers. the women telling me I'm brave for traveling alone are always, always married. I don't tell them they're brave for living with their most likely killer, because that implies they should be afraid, and too many people are already very afraid. and if you want to go somewhere, you should go.

Like EU and some others did some regulations on privacy and social media. As they should have, and as we should have here. And Zuck is still crying about it, as he should be. Notably, neither FB nor TT is banned in the EU, and while ByteDance hasn't made much noise about complying over there, Zuck is crying to drumpf to pressure the EU to lay off.

But anyways we can't do any of that here. Why?

Because any privacy regulations or social media regulations will affect our own data-farms. Because those data-farms are important to our government. Because Meta and Shitter freely share that data with our government.

The problem was never 'companies shouldn't have your data' because the US government is fully in favor of companies stealing and profiting from that data. We do it constantly!! Around the globe!! That is literally what Meta DOES.

The problem is our government isn't the one profiting, and that's what's not allowed.
