Chris, Bart, and Jory: the Saddest Theme in the Flowers of the Attic Film Series
I swear to you, all morality leaves my body when it comes to the Dollanganger siblings. (We're speaking the VC Andrews screen adaptions, as the books are wayyyy too messy for me to make excuses for the utter sexual exploitation of Cathy and her rejection of consent) Cathy and Chris had to fight through hell with tooth and nail, and where I absolutely am disgusted by the incestuous content presented in these films, its purely because they have been clouded in so much darkness that I just want them to be happy.
Which makes the judgment (not that those who judge don't deserve to judge, it is fucking gross under any other circumstance), so much harsher, because the characters that judge them through the duration of the series didn't experience the endless trauma Chris and Cathy did. They bonded through the things only they fought through together, and Chris was more than what he was to Cathy, which was why it was seamless for him to father Cathy's children. Though it hurt him to see her love other men and bed other men, Chris was there from the second both Jory and Bart were born, raising them, providing for them, and most of all, loving them. It is something in the film series that Chris doesn't get enough recognition, because Chris sure as hell didn't have to do this much for Cathy, but because he loved her, he loved Jory and Bart, too.
Which leads to my most hated part of the film series. How Bart completely throws all of Chris' love in his face, and I know it's a driving plot point, but it's so unfair to Chris with all he's fought through to also be betrayed by one of his sons. It's bonkers to me. Chris will never not deserve better. He deserved to live happily with Cathy, and embrace his sons lovingly, and create more of a home that was warm and comfortable. Chris Dollanganger bore a majority of the hurt for his siblings, and still was walked all over for providing, loving and protecting his family. This is the man that gives in to Jory's grandmother's blackmail so he wouldn't lose him, and would rather die than refer to Bart as his "stepson."

Iraola declaró a BBC Match of the Day: «Estamos muy, muy contentos.

more rambling about the dollanganger series while i wait for lee bc i finished rereading seeds of yesterday and i’m also still mad about the movies. i don’t think i can finish them. i paid lifetime five dollars and i just don’t got it in me
for one thing you’re gonna sit there and make julien BRITISH? YOU CAN’T FIND A TWO-BIT ACTOR IN YOUR LINEUP WHO THINKS THEY CAN DO A RUSSIAN ACCENT? unforgiveable. i got to the date scene with him and cathy and i closed my ipad and went to such an angry sleep.
i also really can’t sit with the redemption of olivia— it does absolutrly nothing for the story and frankly the story doesn’t at all benefit anybody and it feels like a circle jerk— ultimatelt corinne still does her corinne thing god what does If There Be Thorns even look like oh man i hope they put her in old age makeup
anyway anyway seeds of yesterday. fuck. hello. finishing this post like two hours later but i had this theory that it ends and we’re meant to assume bart is repeating the cycle with cindy— i think i’m wrong but it just made me so angry about the ending AGAIN and also reminded me of my deep hate for christopher dollanganger foxworth sheffield i HATE his ass how are you gonna marry your sister only to be such a fucking ABSENT HUSBAND

1. doy is an incredable actress, but only performs tragic plays. please ask me abt this one i have so many thoughts about doy and the stage
2. friedrich has chromesthesia, the form of synaesthesia where one relates colour and sound, specifically that she sees a colour when hearing a sound. while she doesn't actually have perfect pitch (just a finely tuned ear) her chromesthesia is pretty accurate (but can interfere with her ability to process things on a bad day)
3. bismarck is touchstarved
4. wales is a lightweight, but has more of a tolerance than kgv, who has the least tolerance out of her class. (its kgv, howe, wales, doy, monarch)
5. adding on to 4, howe is the most responsible drinker of her class. wales drinks to forget, kgv is too much of a lightweight, monarch drinks to compete, and doy's lack of blood means alcohol hits harder and faster than usual
6. magdeburg is a stoner. also, she skateboards
7. repulse really wants to get a pet greyhound, but renown is allergic
8. jean bart is allergic to cats. it makes visiting her sister a pain.
9. nevada holds the base record for the longest time on one of those robotic rodeo bulls.
10. littorio aims to have a rose of every type in her garden, as she designates a species for all those she loves, be it familial, platonic, or romantic.
11. strasser collects clocks and watches. probably has 24chrono notifs on.
12. erebus and terror consider vampire their honourary sister.
13. halloween on base goes OFF
14. monarch working out has a tendancy to draw admirers from across the base. belfast has had to ask monarch to inform her when she spars in the royal gardens because its caused one too many dropped vases for her liking.
15. albion has a notebook of poetry about her crushes. she will deny this velmently.
16. deutschland and talinn bond over their shared status as both ironblood and np ships, but deutschland envies how talinn fits in with the northern parliment girls
17. norcal loves films from the 1920s
18. essex likes the mystery genre, and will watch film noir's with norcal
19. new jersey's go to line is 'are you into magic? cause you could have a rabbit and a wand in your bed tonight, honey'
20. z24 collects the draculaura monster high dolls, but hides them if people come to visit because she's afraid they'll think she's childish
21. wales, doy, and nelson are banned from the royal navy kitchens. no one quite knows the full story, but rumor is it involved a burnt glass of orange juice and liquidised toast.
22. formi, taihou, and roon are in a rock band who warspite enjoys listening to.
23. some people know that dido recites poetry to herself when she can tell she's getting nervous about something, but only she knows that the person who suggested it to her was howe, because dido walked in on her during a bad day (howe learnt it from doy)
24. hood's desk has a secret compartment in a drawer where she keeps unsent letters to bismark, ranging from full of anger to sickeningly sweet love confessions, but mostly bittersweet confessions that their love could never be.
25. bismarck was more apprehensive to meet hood's cat than she was meeting kgv and rodney for peace meetings. the cat impacted her relationship with hood, after all.
26. the crane sisters and taihou have feathers in their hair + wings, because i think its cool and i belive they should get animal traits too.
27. the foxes have an annual get-together in april when their moults begin, and just spend the time taking care of and grooming each other.
28. sheffield's favourite way to relax is dismantaling a gun or practising lockpicking skills.
29. glasgow and ooshio share manga recs. also, gush abt the girls on base together.
30. regensburg plays dnd.
31. ajax has a class on 'knots'. its incredably popular.
32. ajax can actually do really intricate knotwork (seriously look up examples of sailor's knotwork, the art they made with a piece of rope is incredable)
33. impero makes the best cheese sauce for a pasta, but trento has mastered everything else in the sardegnan cookbook.
34. mainz isn't affected by caffiene much, which means that she appreciates the taste a lot more. it also means people unfamilar with her wonder why she hasn't had a heart attack yet.
35. seattle carries a soundboard with her, just in case she needs to start a party on the go.
36. the starter gang has game nights every wednesday, and officially a sleepover every thursday, although they tend to sleep at each others more often than not.
37. long island once speedrun portal 1+2 drunk. she still did better than mikasa did sober.
38. perseus is a cat person.
39. perseus is picky about who touches her at the best of times, but especially her wings.
40. doy gets light sensitivity headaches.
ok ok fine. for every note i'll give a hc/gush abt a different shipgirl i care about

Ok I mentioned Cathy’s psych ward arc in the tags then went to sleep bc im messy lol
So in one of the unpublished manuscripts for Petals on the Wind, there are various alternate endings. One of wich involves Cathy ending up in a psych ward instead of Corrine!
To summarize; toward the end of Petals, as Foxworth mansion is burning down, Jory is stuck inside an adjacent barn trying to save his pony. Bart Winslow runs into the barn to rescue Jory but neither make it out. In her distress, Cathy slips on ice and the fall causes a miscarriage of her unborn child with Bart Winslow.
Cathy bleeds a lot and almost dies. When she’s recovered she can’t accept Jory’s death and becomes violent towards anyone who tries to tell her the truth- even Chris.
Also nobody’s sure if Cory is actually dead or not because Corrine has a man named Gary as an adopted nephew who she claims is actually Cory whom she had dropped off at an orphanage back when she claimed he had died, and later had Bart Winslow’s sister adopt him. This Gary has no memories of his childhood and Cathy doesn’t believe he’s Cory, but Chris IS convinced, and that causes a big rift between Cathy and Chris. Because if Corrine is indeed telling the truth then that means she never meant to kill any of them and was only trying to help them escape.
Cathy also lashes out at Paul when he visits, and she tries to shred her own face with the thorns on the roses he brings her (but they’ve been snipped off) Paul suspects Cathy is only pretending to be “crazy” as an excuse not to have to forgive her mother.
Corrine has been paying for Cathy’s rehabilitation in the psych ward and eventually comes to visit her. Corrine is nervous but Cathy lets her brush her hair. Corrine tells Cathy that while the fire department tried to put out the barn fire they let Foxworth mansion burn to the ground- with Olivia inside. Incidentally, when it came out that Corrine had four children, everything in her father’s will reverted back to Olivia. And Olivia left everything in her will to Cathy- as an apology.
Cathy doesn’t care and tells Corrine to just take everything herself- after all, she’s earned it. (Ohh burn!) Corrine tells Cathy she’s sure had Bart lived he would have left her for Cathy because Corrine couldn’t give him a child even now due to a hysterectomy.
Once again Corrine tries to convince Cathy that Gary is actually Cory and whatever she may think, she never tried to kill them with the arsenic. She claims if she had known what her parents had in store for them she’d had rather worked as a prostitute than go to that house. Cathy doesn’t buy it because Gary is a tall man, and Carrie had not grown tall so why would Cory? And when Gary had visited Cathy in this hospital he was unable to provide proof or information that only Cory would know. So she kicks Corrine out and doesn’t want to see her again.
When Cathy is released from the psych ward she returns to Pauls house. After he proposes to her, he reveals that she actually DIDN’T miscarry. But she was so grief stricken by Jory’s death that she kept trying to kill herself and her unborn baby. So the doctors lied and told her she had miscarried in order to protect the baby. In her confusion and state of psychosis she didn’t even believe her baby was alive when she gave birth to him and the doctors showed the baby to her.
So for three months her baby was being cared for by Corrine. Corrine shows up to hand off the baby to Cathy and tell her she knows its her husband’s child but she isn’t mad at her. Cathy doesn’t much care and doesn’t even invite her to the wedding lol
Cathy and Paul name her baby Bart Scott Sheffield and call him Chip. They live together with Chris and his own three children. Gary had gone off to become a famous musician, but because he never sings songs with Cory’s lyrics Cathy remains unsure if he actually is Cory and therefore unsure if she can forgive Corrine.
And thats how it ends! Pretty crazy huh
Thinking about how in the original Flowers in the Attic manuscript, the kids were locked up for SIX years 💀💀💀
Cathy from the time she was 10 to 16
The twins from the time they were 3 to 9

Queen + Paul Rodgers live at the Arena in Sheffield, UK - October 19, 2008

Fan Stories
“I still remember Queen + Paul Rodgers at Sheffield from the Rock The Cosmos Tour. Every single second of that night is burned into my memory, I have never been able to recall any other night as vividly as that. In the weeks preceding Q+PR at Sheffield, I'd been pleading with my parents to buy a ticket to see them (there were two left), and I even said to get me the ticket instead of any birthday gifts. One day I came home, and my mum and dad were on a seating plan of Sheffield Arena, talking to me about a seat they'd found; C21. Yes, I still remember the seat. They asked if it was okay, I was a bit disappointed there was nothing closer or in the standing area, but then it was my mum who said "Well guess what, we've booked it. You're going". My reaction was a complete stunned silence, then I went totally ballistic with excitement. On the night, my aunt my grandad and my mum came drove me up to Sheffield; I couldn't sit still for the whole journey. Along the way we listened to my copy of The Cosmos Rocks, and even then there was something unique about the night, just listening to that amazing sound of Queen + Paul Rodgers on the way there. When I got to the arena, I shuffled through the sea of people, and then I went inside. THE STAGE!!!! That's one sight I will never forget, when I saw the drumkit I was like, holy crap thats Roger Taylor's kit!! When I got into the arena, it turned out C21 didnt exist in the arena. So I went to the box office, and they re-assigned my ticket to B16. So I ended up being closer than I originally was going to be! I remember waiting patiently for the introduction, at about 7:45, some of the lights in the Arena went down, and the whole place erupted into a cheer. Then at around 8:00pm, all of the lights went down. The screen burst into life; and then came on the intro from Cosmos Rockin' played over the tannoy. Then, a massive riff from Brian's guitar, Roger smashing at the cymbals on his kit and the concert roared into life, with Hammer To Fall being the intro song. For the entire duration of the gig, I could not believe what I was seeing. Everytime I looked at one of the band members, I was awestruck and thinking "OH MY GOD THATS ROGER!!!" or "OH MY GOD THATS PAUL!!!". For weeks afterwards, I could not believe I had actually seen the gods of rock live. The feeling and tension throughout every song was a feeling I don't think I will ever forget, or a feeling I can ever describe. Following the acoustic set, we had a nice surprise; Roger Taylor singing A Kind of Magic while on drums! Then we had the big hits, Bad Company was very well performed, however one of the sights I will never forget is during the encore songs. The sight of 13,000 people clapping in unison to Radio Ga Ga was ....... I don't even know how to describe seeing that. Everyone got up, seated or not to All Right Now, and then We Will Rock You came, one hell of a performance. One sight I will never forget. I remember how me and a load of others around us were almost in tears at the sight of Freddie singing Bohemian Rhapsody. He was there in that arena with us! When I came out of the Arena, I remember telling my aunt and everyone else how I felt, and rang my grandma as I had promised, telling her how i felt. I remember how when I got home that night, I went straight on the laptop, uploaded all of the pictures and videos and made 3 - 4 backups of the folder, just incase one was lost.
Queen + Paul Rodgers, 19/11/08, will always hold fantastic memories for me, and I am thoroughly proud to say, Queen + Paul Rodgers was my first ever major concert. Just seeing them live gave me an enormous drive to pursue my own career interests into the music industry, the unbelievable and indescribable feeling I had there will never leave me, when I think back to that night, I still have that feeling, and I almost burst into tears, the emotion from the gig is that strong. After hearing about a possible Queen tour in 2010, I'll make sure I get in early, maybe to even two gigs this time. But I doubt anything will beat that night; the SOUND, the LIGHTS, the STAGE, and just the incredibility of seeing Queen and Paul Rodgers, just unbelievable!” - Paul Johnson
