btw I think that once the Reach are dealt with Bart should play his role as Future Kid(TM)/lowkey prophet of the future for comedy. he'll make sus comments in response to random things and generally act like he Knows Things but actually he doesn't, he's just messing with everybody else. it drives everyone (but especially Tim, bc he's still a bit uptight) absolutely insane because Bart literally saved the world this way once so they're loath to flat-out dismiss him but also they're extremely aware that he's messing with them. there is nothing they can effectively do about it either because he's not actually being a pest about it all the time, it's just... every so often Bart acts like he Knows Something and nobody can tell if he does or not. and they all have to live with that.

A Christmas Carol Holiday Season: "Scrooge" (1970 musical film)

Here we find the first lavish big-screen musical version of A Christmas Carol. It clearly follows in the footsteps of another Dickens-inspired movie musical, 1968's Oscar-winning Oliver!: not only is it similar in tone and musical style, it was filmed on some of the same sets. In place of Lionel Bart, however, this score features music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Stop the World – I Want to Get Off, and more), who also wrote the screenplay. And the star is the unlikely Scrooge of 34-year-old Albert Finney, affecting a hunched walk and a croaking voice under considerable makeup and prosthetics to play the old miser.

In general the plot follows Dickens' book faithfully, but with a unique tone of wry and sometimes dark humor that sets it apart from other adaptations... yet which never crosses the line into parody or detracts from the serious themes. Marley's Ghost (Alec Guinness) has a particular sense of dry gallows humor about him, and the Ghost of Christmas Present (Kenneth More) trades his poetic speeches for a cheerful yet biting sarcastic wit. Bob and Mrs. Cratchit (David Collings and Frances Cuka) are a young couple in their early 30s instead of the usual middle-aged pair, Bob has a lively, playful personality in place of other versions' careworn meekness, and the mischievous humor of Scrooge's nephew, here renamed Harry (Michael Medwin), is likewise enhanced. On the more poignant side, the sequence with the Ghost of Christmas Past (portrayed as a stately elderly lady by Edith Evans) places special emphasis on young Scrooge's romance with his fianc��e Isabel (Suzanne Neve) and the older Scrooge's sad pining for her. But most unique are the scenes with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (Paddy Stone), where Scrooge's poor debtors turn his funeral into a song-and-dance celebration, and where Scrooge plunges into his own grave and finds himself in a darkly comic version of hell. Little wonder that after he wakes up, Scrooge is so elated that he creates a grand musical finale in the London streets, dressing as Santa Claus to give toys to all of Camden Town's children and cancelling every debt that's owed him.

Albert Finney's attempt at performing old age is slightly cartoonish, but he still gives an engaging performance that captures Scrooge's wide range of emotions and transformative arc. The supporting cast of distinguished British names are equally strong, and Bricusse's songs – "A Christmas Carol," "Christmas Children," "I Hate People," "Father Christmas," "December the Twenty-Fifth," "Happiness," "You," "I Like Life," "The Beautiful Day," "Thank You Very Much" and "I'll Begin Again" – are full of charm.

In the realm of Christmas Carol musicals, this is a quirky one, but unforgettable, and it always brings a smile to my face.

The AA-side, From the Mouth of Elmer McCurdy, highlights Pepe Deluxé’s unmatched credentials as the mad hatter inventors of the music world. This time they team up with nearly-as-eccentric creator Bart Hopkin, who boasts a 100+ collection of unique experimental instruments, many of which are showcased on the new album ‘Comix Sonix’.

The single includes Bart’s Dansal 3, Slide Rattletine, Moe Flute, Aquaalt, Open TDF and Smoke Paprika; all as peculiar as their names, providing an eclectic backdrop to the song’s incredible true story of the fate of the infamous Oklahoma outlaw.

Following his demise at the hands of the sheriff’s posse following a failed train robbery, McCurdy emerged as a coin-eating, roller-skating, US-crisscrossing mummy - with film cameos. Not forgetting a stint where he was painted fluorescent red and suspended from the gallows in an eerie display, only to be discovered by the crew of Six Million Dollar Man, who first mistook him for a dummy. Elmer’s influence even extended to 80’s cartoons, with the creator of Skeletor citing McCurdy as the character’s progenitor.

Gentlekid Thief AU

1. finance

It would come as a shock to most, but Red X’s job as a therapist does more to finance his supervillain career than any night of stealing jewels.

2. skilled

Batman may be more skilled than him when it comes to a fight, but Red X is more skilled than B when it comes to running away. That may not sound impressive, but he remains the only one able to escape the Batman.

3. slump

“What’s wrong, buddy?” Kon takes in the unhappy expression on Tim’s face and the makeup catalogue in his hands.

“I,” Tim declares with all the feeling of a man heading to the gallows, “am in a slump.”

“Can’t decide between the midnight blue or the haunting hour?” Kon guesses, catching sight of the mascara on the page.

“Angeline can only afford one!” Tim wails.

4. intervention

Tim’s looking through a clothing rack when Dick appears next to him with a set jaw and tense shoulders.

“Tim, this is an intervention.”

“You’re not taking my baby booties from me!” Tim clutches the shopping basket to him like a woman with her purse when out in Gotham at night.

“Tim, you’re sixteen. I’ll take you to the theme park or we’ll go train surfing. Just,” Dick waves a hand wearily, “put the baby clothes down.”

Laughing Into Hell AU

1. multiply

One body, two bodies, three, four, five—“Look, Daddy,” Junior giggles from where she’s doing math in the middle of the warehouse, “I can multiply!”

“That’s my muffin!” Daddy coos as Junior beams up at him.

2. trap

Batman taught Robin how to hunt, but Joker taught Junior how to trap. She doesn’t like to admit it, but Tim likes luring her enemies to their own demise more than she does striking quick and silent.

3. bush

The first time Tim attempts to talk to Bruce at a party Diana put together, she ends up hiding in a bush. The second time she tries, she ends up hanging over the balcony by her fingertips until she finally falls into a confused Cassie’s arms.

4. vigorous

Tim doesn’t just spend her time reading or rocking back and forth on the couch; she keeps to her exercise and training. Diana is worried she’s being too vigorous in her attempts to stay in shape.

5. energy

When Tim becomes too harsh on her body, Diana calls Cassie who calls Bart, who takes her out for a relaxing night in the city. It usually doesn’t end well for everyone involved because Tim and Bart have too much built-up energy to remain docile for long.

When the city becomes too much, Bart takes Tim out to the countryside for some peace and quiet. They both absolutely hate it of course, but Junior hates it more; that’s all that matters sometimes.

“Good thing you had your stick on you,” Bart rubs the back of his head sheepishly.

“Bart,” Tim stares at the woman lying on the floor and wonders if she’s dead or merely passed out, “that’s an assassin. What part screamed ‘nun’ at you?”

“She’s wearing a hood and a cross!”

“Anyone can wear a hood, and that’s a dagger not a cross.”

“Also, my staff is not a stick.” She whaps Bart lightly with it. “Stop calling it that.”

9. tight

Tim can’t go back to being Robin, but she needs the costume’s measurements to begin working on her new identity. Bart catches her trying it on.

“Don’t you think your Robin outfit is getting kind of tight?”

“Shut up.”

10. history

Bart has problems keeping the history he knows and the history he’s living separated; he also blames himself for everything that changes for the worst. Tim’s worried enough that she’s working up the nerve to talk to Barry about it.

11. list

Papers litter the penthouse, each one a list of some sort. Tim is preparing for her comeback, and at the same time, she’s preparing to leave.  

12. rebel

Tim knows that there are reasons dimension travel is universally banned, knows that Diana would caution her to keep her trips short and far apart. Too bad Thea’s always been a rebel at heart.

13. plug

“You-dip-tease,” Bart says awkwardly as he watches Tim install the equipment in her new secret lab. “Why that?”

“Because Penguin was taken, and I want to watch people’s reactions as they realize it means rock hopper,” Tim says absentmindedly before throwing a cable at Bart. “Plug that in.”

The news circulates Tim’s new masked appearance and code name. It’s rather fitting that this is how Batman and the others learn of her return considering that is how she found out about the new Robin.

15. speculate

Villains and heroes alike speculate over the mysterious new hero Eudyptes, but they’ll never know the truth. That a Robin lost her wings and gained sanctuary on the steady rock known as Diana.

What if the two of them ended up living together? What if the two of them ended up as huge theater nerds? What if they had some actual healthy coping mechanisms along side their totally not super unhealthy vigilante detective hobby that nearly kills them on a weekly basis? What if everything wasn't a shitty cheap ass drama show written by racist, misogynist, homophobic, all the bad ism's and phobia's and ist's?

(No disrespect to the individuals who try to give us good diverse content. Actually, all the respect because DC as whole is a weak dumb ass bitch and kudos to those people for tolerating that bastard.)

The (greatest) Pirate Trial of 1722

This began on 28 March 1722 with a Vice- Admiralty Court led by Captain Mungo Herdman presenting the case against the survivors of Black Barts Roberts Crew. The court at Cape Coast Castle, at Cabo Corso, Ghana was filled with 69 prisoners taken from the Great Ranger , commanded by Captain James Skyrme, who was barely alive. The the prisoners from the Royal Fortune came into court, of whom 87 were charged with piracy. A total of 91 pirates were found guilty and 74 acquitted. Captain Skyrme and most members of Roberts ‘House of Lords’ were found Guilty in the Highest Degree, and the President of the Court, Captain Herdman pronounced: “Ye and each of you are adjudged and sentenced to be carried back to the place from whence you came, from thence to the place of execution without the gates of this castle, and there within the flood marks to be hanged by the neck, till you are dead, dead, dead.And the Lord have mercy upon your souls. After this ye, and each of you shall be taken down and your bodies hung in chains”

Sentence to death against fifteen crew members of Bartholomew Roberts, 1722

Herdman sentenced 52 of Bart Roberts crew to death, another 20 men to an effective death dentence in the Cape Coast mines, and sent another 17 to be imprisoned in London ‘s Marshalsea Prison. Of these 17, 13 died during the passage to London. The four survivors were eventually pardoned while in Newgate Prison. Two “guilty” sentences were respited. Of the 52 pirates hanged at Cape Coast, nearly half were Welsh or West Countrymen ,and most of the others were indentured servants or poor white colonists. 15 pirates had died of their wounds on the passage to Cape Corso Castle, and four in its dungeons. 10 had been killed in the Ranger, and three in the Royal Fortune. In all, 118 of Roberts’ crew died. The 80 blacks on board of the priate ships were returned to a life of slavery.

Surgeon Atkins’s account of the hangings is repeated in Defoe’s History of Pyrates. The first six to hang were the hardened Lords Sutton, Simpson, Ashplant, Moody, Magness and Hardy. Atkins offered his services as a priest, but even Sutton, who had been suffering dysentery for days, ignored him. Christopher Moody had been a pirate captain  before joining Roberts, notable for his flag being gold on red rather then white on black. They called out for drinking water, and complained that “ We are poor rogues, and so get hanged while others, no less guilty in another way, escaped.” Loosened from their shackles, they walked carelessly to the gallows. Little David Simpson spotted poor Elizabeth Trengrove in the huge crowd, who he had ravished when the Onslaw was taken in August 1721. he shouted “ I have lain with that bitch three times, and now she she has come to see me hanged.”

The executioners did not know how to hang men, and tied their hands in frotn of the Lords, Lord Hardy stated calmly “ I have seen many a man hanged, but this way of having our hands tied behind us I am a stranger to, and i never saw it before in my life.”  Later hangings saw many of the men admit their sins, especially Surgeon Scudamore, the only ships doctor known to have willingly joined any pirate ship. He asked for two days reprieve to read the scriptures, and was allowed to sing the 31st Psalm on the gallows before being swung off. 18 of the worst offenders were dipped in tar, encased in a frame of iron bands, and hung from gibbets in chains from nearby Lighthouse Hill, Conner’s Hill and Catholic Mission Hill, so that they could be seen by passing ships as a warning to pirates Israel Hynde was thus gibbet, he was the same Israel Hands who served under Blackbeard. Other pirates were simply left hanging for the birds to eat.
