Former Timeless star Abigail Spencer is set as the lead in Hulu drama pilot Reprisal, from Warren Littlefield and A+E Studios.

Written by Josh Corbin (StartUp) and to be directed by BAFTA-nominated Jonathan Van Tulleken (Off Season), Reprisal hails from A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company. It’s a hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale (Spencer) who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.

Long after being left for dead by her brother and his gang, Katherine Harlow has reemerged far from their world as the charming Doris Dearie (Spencer). Actress, writer and producer Spencer is coming off her starring run as Lucy Preston in NBC’s Timeless, which will wrap its two-season run with a two-part finale to air during the holidays. Her other credits include the critically acclaimed series Rectify,the feature film This Is Where I Leave You, and she’ll next be seen in the upcoming action comedy series Wayne on YouTube Premiere.

Netflix Orders World War II Animated Drama Series "The Liberator"

NETFLIX ORDERS WORLD WAR II ANIMATED DRAMA SERIES "THE LIBERATOR"

Netflix has ordered World War II drama series The Liberator, which tells the riveting true story of the bloodiest and most dramatic march to victory of the Second World War: the battlefield odyssey of maverick U.S. Army officer Felix Sparks and his infantry unit as they fought for over five hundred days to liberate Europe. Based on the book "The Liberator: One World War II Soldier's 500-Day Odyssey" by Alex Kershaw, the series was created by Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive).

The combat drama will follow Sparks and the 157th Infantry Regiment from Oklahoma, a National Guard unit comprised primarily of cowboys, Native Americans and Mexican-Americans from the Invasion of Italy to the liberation of the concentration camp of Dachau.

The four-part series will be the first ever produced in Trioscope(TM) Enhanced Hybrid Animation, a new patent-pending technology combining state-of-the-art CGI with live-action performance, bringing an unprecedented level of emotion and fidelity to the animated drama experience. Grzegorz Jonkajtys developed the Trioscope(TM) technology together with School of Humans' L.C. Crowley.

The series is being produced for Netflix by A+E Studios and Unique Features in partnership with Atlanta-based animation studio School of Humans.

The Unique Features executive producers are: Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne (Lord of the Rings) and Sarah Victor.

The School of Humans executive producers are: L.C. Crowley, Grzegorz Jonkajtys, Brandon Barr, and Mark Apen.

Grzegorz Jonkajtys (Sin City, Pan's Labyrinth, The Revenant) will also serve as Director for all 4 episodes.

Jeb Stuart is creator, writer and will executive produce through his Real Folk Productions.

Barry Jossen serves as executive producer for A+E Studios.

Bill Clinton Impeachment Drama Series Greenlighted at History

The six-part series, titled ‘The Breach,’ hails from executive producer and director R.J. Cutler.

History is digging back into former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment for its next scripted drama series.

The cabler has greenlighted a six-part series from Emmy winner R.J. Cutler titled The Breach: Inside the Impeachment of Bill Clinton, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The series is described as a “political thriller” that offers an extremely detailed account of how the Monica Lewinsky scandal unfolded. The drama aims to take viewers inside the war rooms on both sides of the political aisle, the clashes amongst the president’s advisors, the secret negotiations between the White House and Congress and the pressure from both sides to either push Clinton out or force him to resign.

In addition to Clinton himself, other major players in the historic 1998 events include then-first lady Hillary Clinton, Republican politician Newt Gingrich, prosecutor Ken Starr and congressman Bob Livingston, among others.

The project is based on Peter Baker’s New York Times best-seller The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton.

Cutler penned the pilot with David K. Israel and will also direct. Cutler will executive produce alongside A+E Studios’ Barry Jossen. FremantleMedia North America will produce in association with A+E Studios, and FremantleMedia International will also handle global distribution. Casting is currently underway.

The order comes as History has been pushing further into scripted series with Vikings, which recently earned an early season six pickup, and the military drama Six. Upcoming projects include the Jeremy Renner-produced Knightfall and the UFO drama Blue Book from Robert Zemeckis.

“Featuring an array of well-known modern political figures, The Breach will bring audiences behind the scenes of an event that changed Washington forever — the first impeachment of an elected president in American history,” History exec vp programming Eli Lehrer said Thursday in a statement. “This drama builds upon our core scripted programming slate of compelling, contemporary storytelling that embraces our recent history and we are confident R.J. will bring a unique vision to President Clinton’s gripping story.”

For FremantleMedia, The Breach joins a growing list of scripted series that includes Starz’ American Gods and HBO’s The Young Pope.

“This is a moment in American history that altered the direction of this country,” said Dante Di Loreto, FremantleMedia North America’s president scripted entertainment. “It’s a deeply emotional and personal story that caused one of the biggest political storms in our history. FremantleMedia is home to some of the finest creative talent around the world. We’re thrilled to now be partnering with R.J. and History on The Breach.”

Cutler famously made a name for himself as a producer on the Oscar-nominated 1992 documentary The War Room that documented Clinton’s first presidential campaign. He also directed the political films A Perfect Candidate and The World According to Dick Cheney, in addition to his work on scripted series like Nashville.

“Set at the dawn of the cable news wars and the social media revolution, The Breach is a remarkable political story,” said Cutler. “It’s the origin tale of how our government was broken and has never really healed. It’s also a thrilling tale of personal and professional ambition, of enormous hubris in the name of acquiring power and of personal foibles, all of which nearly brought down a presidency.”

In addition to The Breach, prolific producer Ryan Murphy is also prepping a potential scripted series project centered on Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky. In January, he optioned Jeffrey Toobin’s A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President for a potential upcoming season of his American Crime Story anthology at FX.

Olivia Munn Joins History Military Drama 'Six' Season 2

‘The Newsroom’ alum will play a high-level operations officer in the 10-episode second season.

Olivia Munn is enlisting with History for a major new role.

The Newsroom actress has joined the A+E net’s military drama Six as a series regular for season two, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Munn will play Gina, a ruthless and smart CIA operative who rose from being a CIA shooter to a high-level Operations Officer.

From exec producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Six is inspired by the real missions of Navy SEAL Team Six, the unit best known for killing Osama Bin Laden. The drama, which debuted in January as History’s second original scripted series, depicts the emotional truths of what it means to be in SEAL Team Six, their complex personal lives and the life and death decisions that protect American interests. 

Munn is set to appear in all 10 episodes of season two, which begins production this month in Vancouver. She joins fellow new season two addition Eric Ladin (The Killing), who will play Trevor, an experience SEAL who joins the team and disrupts the status quo. 

Six‘s ensemble includes Barry Sloane, Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba, Edwin Hodge, Brianne Davis, Nadine Velazquez, Dominic Adams, Jaylen Moore and Lindsley Register.

After getting her start on the small screen on Attack of the Show, The Daily Show and HBO’s The Newsroom, has moved her focus to film in recent years with roles in X-Men: Apocalypse, Office Christmas Party and the forthcoming Predator remake. She is also a best-selling author, having written the 2010 entry Suck It, Wonder Woman: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek. She is repped by CAA and Atlas Artists.

Six is created and written by Oscar nominee William Broyles (Cast Away, Apollo 13, Jarhead) and his son, David Broyles, a military special operations veteran. The two exec produce with the Weinstein Brothers, Bruce C. McKenna, Alfredo Barrios, Jr., George W. Perkins, David Glasser, Nicolas Chartier, Meryl Poster and Barry Jossen. Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Mitchell Hall (Zero Dark Thirty) serves as the series’ technical advisor and producer. Arturo Interian serves as the executive in charge of production for History.
