Some more fun Rats history from their instagram page today!
There was no caption included on the original post, but these look like record store promotional materials for the "Lookin' After No. 1" single which was the band's first release in August 1977.
As part of their marketing campaign the Rats released a 12" version of their single where the album sleeve included an armband that you could cut out and wear! Based on the language in the flyers above it sounds like the gimmick was that you were buying the armband and getting the single for "free" along with it. Either way it's a great way to get fans to show off their "merch" and promote the band even further!
Here's what the 12" single looks like (photo by me from my local record shop):
And here's a closer scan of the armband design! You can see the instructions for use at the bottom: "Cut Here & Thread String Thru Holes For Your Rats Armband"
First Image ID: A grainy scan of a promotional poster printed on white paper with black text. The poster depicts an arm wearing a Boomtown Rats armband, holding a black record which reads "Limited Edition 20,000 only:". The text on the rest of the poster reads, "The Boomtown Rats Armband! PLUS 'Giveaway' 12" single 75p only "Lookin' After No. 1" End ID.
Second Image ID: A grainy scan of a promotional poster printed on black paper with white text. There are no images on the poster. The text reads "The Boomtown Rats are lookin' after you… For just 75p your customers get a Rats armband with a giveaway 12" single - Limited Edition 20,000. Lookin' After No. 1 (from forthcoming LP Boomtown Rats Envy 1) B/W 'Born to Burn' & 'Barefootin' (Live). Further stocks will be available as the standard 7" single. Be No. 1 yourself order now! End ID.
Third Image ID: A photo of the 12" single version of "Lookin' After No. 1". It is behind held in front of rows of used vinyl bins. The single cover lists the tracks and has a black-and-white armband running diagonally through the middle. End ID.
Fourth Image ID: A close-up scan of the armband from the 12" single. It has a white background with two black stripes running horizontally through the middle that connect to a circle in the center. In the circle is a black rat with "Boomtown" written above and "Rats" written below. The armband is outlined with a dashed line, indicating it should be cut out, and there are circles in each corner indicating where string should be threaded through. End ID.

Mayor Unita Zelma Blackwell or U. Z. Brown (March 18, 1933 – May 13, 2019) was a civil rights activist who was the first African-American woman to be elected mayor in the state of Mississippi. She was born in Lula, Mississippi, to sharecroppers Virda Mae and Willie Brown. When her teacher told her that she needed “a real name, not just initials”. She and her teacher decided on Unita Zelma.
Her family traveled in search of work. She was 14 when she finished the eighth grade, the final year of school at Westside, a school in West Helena for Black children. She had to quit school to earn for her family.
She married Jeremiah Blackwell, a cook for the Army Corps of Engineers. They had one son. After settling in Mayersville, she began to get involved in the Civil Rights Movement. She married Willie Wright.
