Mermaidia

Mermaidia is an underwater realm where merpeople can be found. The mersociety is located beside Mermaid Cove. Beyond the merfolk, merfairies and the Sea Butterfly also reside in Mermaidia. The kingdom and its inhabitants are ruled over by Prince Nalu. Those who can't breathe underwater naturally can eat a special kind of kelp to visit Mermaidia for a short time.

I'm just now realizing that Elina is the Barbie character I've drawn the most of... but I've only drawn her 3 times... so far!

Fairytopia Elina Butterfly Necklace

Screw Delphine the Oracle. Like, for real, I hate her.

So she’s an Oracle, right? She knows everything. Nori literally says that. And yet she makes the most infuriating choice to not help Elina and Nori.

Again, think about the fact that she’s an oracle. This means she KNOWS Mermaidia’s prince (& possible leader; not confirmed in-story) has been kidnapped. She KNOWS that the Fungi are making Nalu find the Immunity Berry that will make Fairytopia’s most feared villain invincible to all magic. She KNOWS that he’ll die from being dried out if he isn’t saved. AND SHE KNOWS that if Nalu refuses to help, the Fungi will kill all of Mermaidia with a poison that our heroes have no way of knowing how to stop. She KNOWS this is an extremely time sensitive journey that will determine the fate of Mermaidia AND Fairytopia. 

AND YET SHE HAS THE GALL TO WITHHOLD PRINCE NALU’S LOCATION. “YoU mUsT pRoVe YoUrSeLvEs” BITCH WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MASS MURDER HERE. I don’t care that the mermaid was a little rude to you this one time you’ve ever interacted!! I don’t care that they have to “learn to work together” they’re trying to save ALL OF FAIRYTOPIA AND MERMAIDIA. 

Delphine could’ve just told them where he is and just said “Hey you two need to get your act together and work as a team” but NO she had them go into the bottom of Mermaidia into what is literally called the Depths of Despair which Nori says NO ONE HAS COME BACK FROM to consult a damn mirror that can tell them WHAT SHE ALREADY KNOWS. And on top of that she begrudgingly gives Elina a necklace that will trade her wings for a tail and has the AUDACITY to make the magic permanent instead of just having it wear off and on top of THAT straight up LIES to her saying the pearls will turn back to white one-at-a-time when it was TWO-at-a-time, giving her even less time to try to turn herself back into a fairy and not have to uproot her entire life.

Oh my stars I hate her. I may have said before that online spaces have slightly soured my love for Nori but my anger towards Delphine is 100% from the movie itself. And yes I know it’s just part of the journey for Elina and Nori and they have to push the toys but they could’ve just had Delphine and the Wise Fish both be at the bottom of the depths of despair instead of having Elina and Nori seek out someone to tell Nalu’s location twice or make Delphine just another citizen of Mermaid Town with the Merfairies. As she is, I can’t stand her.

Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia, Laverna —Aesthetic

Laverna's Character & Personality

Having been banished to the Bogs of the Hinterlands, Laverna is constantly whining about the heat. She now demands her henchmen constantly pamper her by fanning. Although Laverna can't leave her prison, she's still causes chaos through commanding others, including her pets, the Firebirds. Her second plan involves obtaining and eating the Immunity Berry to be invulnerable to all magic, regardless of time. Laverna made Fungus Maximus and the fungi under him kidnap the mer-prince. They then forced him to lead them to the berry, or they would destroy Mermaidia with a magical poison if he refused. Unfortunately, Laverna was transformed into a toad by a true self berry which was somehow painted with a red stripe to make it look like the Immunity Berry.

My current collection of Barbie movie prints based off of the original movies from the 2000's! A few more may be added later on (I know I'm missing 12 dancing princesses and Magic of Pegasus) But, it's nice to see them all together in once place. ^^
