1957 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet - Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena, Italy The 250 GT Cabriolet represents a milestone in ferrari's production. Before this model, Maranello had only ever built a very limited number of cabriolets (convertibles), designed to cater to a select clientele. With the presentation of the 250 GT at the Geneva Motor Show, a cabriolet model went into mass production for the first time. The car enjoyed great and immediate success. One of the earliest models was bought by Barbara Hutton, a famous US high society heiress married briefly to actor Cary Grant, who lost no opportunity to show it off at numerous social events. Famous actress Marilyn Monroe also drove the 250 GT cabriolet. Engine: front, longitudinal 60° V12 Total displacement: 2953 cc Power: 176 kW (240 hp) at 7000 rpm Top speed: 252km/h #ferrari #ferrari250gt #luxury #modena #scuderiaferrari #ferrarimuseum #ferrariclassic #marilynmonroe #enzoferrari #classiccar #carmuseums #cabriolet #ferrariheritage #luxus #supercar #oldtimers #cars #supercars #cabrio #classiccars #traveling #forzaferrari #ferrarilife #luxurycars #cavallinorampante #travel #ferrariworld #prancinghorse #carsofinstagram #barbarahutton (at Museo Enzo Ferrari - Modena) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp5xTMKIcGM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A History of Engagement Rings Vol. 6: The 1930’s 💎We’ve been patiently waiting to get to this edition of the History of Engagement Rings because….. ART DECO! Yes, the 30’s were smack dab in the middle of the Art Deco period and this is one of our favorite times for engagement rings. And we also get to talk about two of the world’s greatest jewelry collectors, as they married during the 30s. Let’s dig in. Wallace Simpson, a twice-divorced American, was known for a few things. 1) She was quoted as saying a woman can never be too rich or too thin. 2) She was a grand patron of the houses of Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels and Harry Winston and 3) she was the reason the Kind of England abdicated the thrown and stepped down, so he could marry her in 1937. Not only did he step down, but since he could not offer her the title of Queen, he instead showered her in jewels, starting with her out of this world 19.77ct emerald engagement ring by Cartier. But there was another American that was also had a jewelry collection to rival any royal - Barbara Hutton. While we couldn’t find any photos of her engagement rings (she was married SEVEN times), she married twice in the 30’s and we’re sure they were absolute stunners. She did, after all, have the Pasha diamond. A diamond that started it’s life as a 40ct octagonal stone. Barbara had it recut by Cartier to a round 38.19cts and set in a magnificent ring. Who needs an engagement ring when you have the Pasha? Others to marry during that period were Lawrence Olivier, Mary Pickford, Norman Rockwell and Bebe Daniels. While images of engagement rings associated with those weddings are hard to come by, we’re certain they were fashioned in the style of the day, similar to those shown here (some of which are available on our website). Do you have an Art Deco ring from the 1930s? Tell us all about it in the comments below or better yet, post a photo and tag us! * * #ahistoryofengagementarings #engagementring #artdecoengagementring #artdeco #royals #royalty #wallissimpson #duchessofwindsor #kingedwardvii #dukeofwindsor #barbarahutton #americanheiress #britishroyalty #normanrockwell #cartier #vancleefarpels #harrywinston

When I was in high school I read a bio on heiress Barbara Hutton & this picture was in it. This is Zsa Zsa laughing at Ms. Hutton's wedding picture. She had married Zsa Zsa's exboyfriend, who also gave Zsa Zsa the black eye she's covering. All I could think at the time is how much I loved that leopard print/eyepatch combo.

La Panthere design is synonymous with Cartier. It was conceived by Jeanne Toussaint (1887-1978), Cartier's director of luxury jewelry, just as the Art Deco period of abstract and geometric designs waned. The panther brooch, typically sculpted with diamond, onyx and precious gemstones, appealed to Cartier's strong-willed and assertive female clients of the World War II period such as Barbara Hutton, America's 'Poor Little Rich Girl', and the Duchess of Windsor.
In 1987, Sotheby's sold the Duchess of Windsor's jewelry collection in Geneva for a record Sfr 74.5 million, which included an onxy and diamond panther bracelet from 1952 (pictured). In November 2010, the Duchess of Windsor's panther bracelet was re-offered at Sotheby's and sold for 4.5 million pounds against a presale estimate of 1-1.5 million pounds ! Along with the sale of jewels from Estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1987) and The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor (2011), the Duchess of Windsor's jewelry auction in 1987 and the individual items that might be re-offered in the years to come will be remembered as one of a handful of jewelry auction highlights.
Earlier this month, Cartier released a spectacular three minute short film called L'Odyssee de Cartier. A panther breaks out of his diamond and onyx armor and travels through Russia, China, India (an appeal to these emerging markets, perhaps?) and France encountering Cartier's memorable designs along the way until the panther finds a beautiful lady in red with an exquisite aquamarine bracelet clasped with the panther motif.
Beautiful !
