Study fact please!

There's this ways of accommodating designs in a sheet to print it. I know them as Formaciones and Imposiciones.

Imposiciones are basically how books are printed and most of editorial design, it consists in the 16 or 32 pages allinations which in 16 you print back and front in a very specific way, so when you print it, you fold it first to the right at the long side, then to the back and then to the right again so it looks like a book and then you chop it off and vuala. 32 pages is the same but all in one sheet, divided by this space called street, so you cut them apart and fold like the 16 pages it results in two mini books.

Formaciones are the way to accommodate designs for pamphlets or just publicity in a shit there's two ways:

Turn: which is you print it in one side and then you turn it to the right or left

Bell: one side and you turn in to the back

This is more economic bc it implies you only have to make one plate for the offset machine.

Also, did you know? You can only commission 25% if you make external sources print the design. But you can commission more than the 80% of the total production cost if you have the machines to print it yourself and do the process alone?

But pro tips: don't ask for the total cost of production, add it more. And don't mention deliver dates.

I (admittedly) wasn't originally a huge Tim Drake fan starting out, but I came to appreciate him a lot more during my Batman!Dick Grayson read.

Shadow of the Batgirl Panels

Once again, got me heavily relating to a character with language/communication issues. The only qualm I had with how the graphic novel showed Cassandra struggling with language was how she'd go 'sorry, hi. always gonna get that wrong,' referring to the order of things. Instead, blurting out whatever she needed to tell them. Which to me, has never been that much of a social faux pas. Granted, with a character like Cassandra, that would be an important distinction to learn.

I guess it just felt very much akin to bilingual characters written by monoligual authors going 'bonjour--oh, sorry, hello.' On the opposite end of the spectrum, I did like the moments where Cassandra gets overwhelmed by Barbara's pinging questions to the point she just yells 'stop!'

Also, I really like Barbara being in a wheelchair. Cause yea, she can definitely still play a part in all the heroics stuff even with being disabled, 100%. The sequel to this one which seems to be more of a prequel, I think shows the accident that has her end up in said wheelchair. But Barbara, from what I've seen has never been the tank type character to begin with. Always been more the brainiac sort, rather a support type. But supports are needed just as much as tanks are.

Nightwing - Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo

My favorite stories of 2023 in any format, not just graphic novels. I adore the way Tom Taylor writes both Dick Grayson and Nightwing. The first hero I wanted to read about when I started reading Graphic Novels for the first time last fall was Nightwing. I have loved the character in different formats previously and I knew that’s the character I wanted to start with. I was disappointed with what I found to start. The character didn’t come alive in the comics I was reading in the way I was used to.

Everything changed when I got to Taylor’s run. The fun loving, optimistic, hopeful character I had fallen in love with was there on the pages. Over and over again, Dick puts the target on his back to save others from it. Over and over again, Dick acts as a safety net for those around him, the privileged and vulnerable alike. Over and over again, Dick displays the hope and light that superhero stories should be about.

Dick Grayson/Nightwing is the heart and soul of DC. He’s the best of them all. You can tell that Tom Taylor gets that and really takes it seriously. You can see it in what Dick prioritizes when he sets about revitalizing Bludhaven. You can see it in the relationships Dick has with Clark and Jon Kent, with Bruce and Damian, with Barbara, with Wally, with the Titans, new and old. You can see it everywhere you look, because Taylor is so consistent in writing Dick. In every scenario, Dick Grayson is going to do what’s right and lead with hope. He’s going to leap into the light every chance he gets.

Superhero stories /should/ be about characters who inspire hope. So much of the superhero stories in media right now are trying to flip the idea of superheroes upside down and have them be the villains or at least be dark, edgy, and violent versions of themselves. In that landscape, stories like Nightwing or the excellent My Adventures with Superman are such a breath of fresh air.

I know Tom Taylor is a polarizing person on the internet with both Nightwing and Superman , but his Nightwing run specifically is so important to me because it’s the kind of stories I want to write. I’m writing traditional novels instead of graphic novels, but at the heart of it, this is what I believe superhero stories are about. No character has inspired my view of superheroes as much as Nightwing and I find Taylor’s depiction of him so true to character. I can’t wait for my copy of the fourth volume to show up on release day next week so I can dove back into Dick Grayson’s story.

Brucie: surprisingly good caricatures of annoying board members in said annoying board meetings. Lucius keeps them in a folder.

Batman: surprisingly good caricatures of annoying Justice Leaguers in said annoying Justice League meetings. Clark always steals them after to frame them.

Tim: his doodles inevitably turn into embellished Robin Rs, so he sticks to dismantling pens to avoid the embarrassment. (the doodling started long before he was Robin.)

Dick: doesn't draw. does paper origami. can make impossibly tiny cranes. no loose sheet of paper is safe from him. once did it to a document Bruce was supposed to sign. that board meeting certainly wasn't boring.

Jason: stick figures in a variety of situations. post his return as Hood, most of the situations end with the Joker somehow dying. graphically (pun intended). Harley keeps a collection of them.

Damian: absurdly vivid and detailed pictures of whoever is around him. the others wait with bated breath to find out who he's drawing so they can steal the picture to keep for themselves. Tim did it once and Damian nearly burned down his room to get it back.

Barbara: Fibonacci spirals. freehand. (the GCPD absolutely used to think that Gordon was part of some secret conspiracy because they kept cropping up on his paperwork.)

Steph: fancy Ss in different styles. sometimes colored. occasionally, if she's really bored, they'll involve glitter. when she brings out the hot glue gun, things have reached critical boredom.

Cass: mimics whoever's closest. is absurdly good at it too. and not by looking at what they're doodling but by watching their hands. once managed to copy Damian's drawing perfectly and only then realized he was drawing her. (copying him drawing her copying him drawing her copying him--)

Alfred: "I am not paid to doodle, Master Bruce." (it's elaborate cakes.)

Bonus Villain Edition:-

Selina: cats. always cats. occasionally diamonds. but usually cats.

Talia: flowers. not generic ones either, but fully detailed with shading and everything. Bruce glanced over once (in a boring League class, Ra's kept the resulting caricature) and was unsurprised to find her drawing nightshade.

Deathstroke: the Titans all picked up on Dick's habit of paper origami and Slade refuses to admit he does it too. he destroys all the ones he makes. (there's some safely hidden in a fortified safe house. every now and again, a new tiny crane joins the collection.)

Harley: Rorschach Blots.

Ivy: "waste paper? for doodling??"

Joker: the one and only time some bright Arkham psychiatrist decided to have the Joker try 'art therapy', the psychiatrist ended up being committed themself and the warden ordered all sheets of paper in the vicinity burned.

From the moment that I close my eyes, take a deep breath and feel the sun kissing my skin delicately until the moment I open my eyes again with a clearer mind. And there's always one though that is in the back, watching me over every step and reminding me everything I've been through.

And its the fact that I would never change a thing in my life. Because every point converges in the epitome of the current moment I cried, I smile and I will appreciate.

Whenever I close my eyes I find myself, I find the thirteen year old girl who lost everything. I find the girl who got adopted by the world's greatest Dad. The same girl who saved Bruce Wayne from kidnapping, in a silly old custome which I thought to wear because having a female version of Batman at the time was unthinkable.

That same event that lead me to what would became the career that gave me my whole life and everything I cherish for. From my beloved friends which I love to see and help everyday, the kind man who extended his hand to us all, and the man who taught me that romantic love is only a thing I can experiment with trust from years.

I fin that girl, who watched her adoptive mom die, the one who got paralized and standed by for months by an hospital bed, hoping every day her Dad recover his self afteer being pushed by the limit. All done by the same man.

I find the girl who decided not to let the man win, and still find kindness in life. Working everyday to help and seek the truth for the sake of the few good people in gotham.

I find the girl who recovered, I find the girl who succeeded.

I find Barbara Jean Gordon, I find me.
