Elizabethan theatremakers would have used a number of techniques to put their spectres on the stage. Shakespeare’s stage directions and lines from the plays also help us understand how some of his ghosts might have been performed.
Makeup If ghosts had to appear covered in blood (such as Banquo in Macbeth), actors would have used pigs blood, giving a realistic bloody look in terms of colour, viscosity and even smell. Actors may have also used flour to give their skin a deathly pale pallor and to distinguish them from their living counterparts.

"That moment when you realize that one of your favorite characters is a lot more crucial to the plot than you originally thought him to be, so you decide to write your whole essay about it."

I think this was about Banquo but don't quote me on that.

So… I’m hooked on Macbeth x Banquo now because of the production of Macbeth I’m currently in. The folks playing them wonderfully decided to make the ship at least semi-canon in the play. It is so tragic and they play it so well. Apologies to William Shakespeare, but plays and musicals always get me to ship the strangest things. (Tuggoffelees I’m looking at you)
A play was also how I got into the Sherlock Holmes fandom so I guess this is just normal for me.

here to ask for you to go crazy on the words “curt and owen are so banquo and macbeth coded”!! this crossover of my interests is crazy, and I Need to know the rest of the thought process
okokok i'm so glad somebody asked :D in my mind, owen is a huge shakespeare nerd, so pieces of this are from his thought process
they begin as "best friends" (i like to think macbeth and banquo also had the sort of relationship curt and owen had), and their relationship only grows as they fight harder battles together. just as macbeth and banquo grew closer as the leaders of the fight against norway, owen and curt relied more and more heavily on each other as they got deeper into the spy game.
owen was always power hungry, and curt wasn't perfect himself. the catalyst for the big betrayal was owen's fall. owen says he "met someone" who told him about chimera, and that mystery person serves as the witches -- they put the idea of power in owen's head, and suddenly he'd do anything to get it.
while banquo was definitely more morally sound than macbeth, he wasn't perfect. he monologues briefly at one point, hoping that the witches' predictions will be accurate for him as well. this part of his story translates into curt's re-entry into the spying world.
finally, i see the staircase scene as an alternate sort of version of banquo's murder. instead of sending the murderers (others from chimera), this scene presents a world where macbeth went after banquo to finish him off himself.
banquo's last words are "thou mayst revenge" to his son fleance. after what macbeth did to him, he bids his son to avenge him, not caring about the relationship he previously had with macbeth. he realized the person who ordered this hit on him was not the man he loved, and with his dying words, he condoned macbeth's murder.
now, curt didn't have a son to order owen's death, and curt wasn't against 3 hitmen -- he was just up against owen. he realizes that owen is not the man he loved, and condones his death.
i could do an entire essay analyzing spies are forever read as a macbeth retelling, but i'll just leave you with this bit lmao
