I feel like I subconsciously make all of my ocs chronically online (bc I am) but I really need to stop doing that
aina grew up in a strict ass household no joy outside of music and dance, currently spends all her free time in the studio, practicing her instruments, brushing up on her current languages and learning Mandarin- there's no way this girl is keeping up with the trends

It was the summer of 2010 when you found Jules Hawkins by the lake. But it didn't look like Jules Hawkins.
After all, how could it? Jules Hawkins was a god. And as you know, gods like Jules are unbreakable. If you knew anyone death couldn't touch, it was Jules. And yet, somehow it felt like you had never seen Jules look more like them than they did, that day, dead by the lake. Plump cherry lips, now parched and blue, dirt on their perfect knees, golden hair sticking to their forehead, exquisite clothes matted and muddied, skin, ghostly pale.
Even in death, even as Jules became a child of soil and dirt and ruin, Jules managed to look like art. How could this creature of beauty be anyone else but Jules Hawkins?
Tumblr media
A string of murders follow the passing of Jules Hawkins and in the desperation of avoiding being tangled in the web of this cold blooded murderer, you end up right in the thick of it when you find out the killer may have set their eyes on you next.
Of course, you ended up in the killer's radar. You had always been a child of misfortune, after all.

• Customise your mc. Choose your appearance. Play as male, female, non-binary or trans; straight, gay or bisexual etc.
• Play as an emotionally scarred individual. Escape the hell you call your mind, alone or with the help of allies. Or succumb to the voices.
• Find your predator before your predator finds you. Or keep running. How far will you run? Do you even want to run?
• Befriend, antagonize, manipulate or romance fellow residents of Ravenwoods.
• Heavily character driven.
• The lake calls out to you. Will you listen?

JULIAN/NE "JULES" HAWKINS. [he/him or she/her] [semi ro]
You knew Jules in the way you wish you never did. Jules is embedded into your very bones. Jules is a part of you. You wish you could escape them.
Jules may be no more for the world but they are alive and breathing in your haywire brain and they are not very kind. Not that they ever were. But the Jules that haunts you, plagues you like a disease is ruthless with their words in a way the old Jules could never be. Not to you.
Description : Pale skin. Rosy tint to cheeks. High cheekbones. f!Long wheatish blonde curly hair with bangs. m!shoulder length curly wheatish blonde hair. Almond shaped brown eyes. Arched eyebrows. Long, thick lashes. Bow shaped lips. f!willowy frame. 5'11. m!broad back, narrow waist, long legs. 6'2.
CHAE WARREN. [he/him]
There are few you consider friend and Warren is one of them, alongside Sujin. He is revolution in a glass jar. A little rough around the edges, with bullet holes in his paper heart. Lately, the air becomes laced with awkwardness when its just the two of you around. You wish you weren't fairly perceptive. Perhaps that could have made you oblivious to the way Warren's adams apple bobs and his throat tightens when you are around, the way his fists clench when his tongue slips or the way he glances at you thinking you didn't notice.
Description : Sharp jaw. Medium complexion. Monolid chocolate brown eyes. Straight eyebrows. Thin pinkish lips. 5'7. Athletic figure. Short dyed dark red hair.
JESSICA HAWKINS. [she/her]
Jules' twin. You never bothered to acquaint yourself with her. She had always seemed too saintly and your mother had taught you well to stay away from that kind. Those who hide their tainted souls behind rosemary lies, platinum smiles and bright eyes stitched from sunshine. Beware of them, your mother had told you. But is that what she truly is doing? Spinning honeyed tales from saccharine lips?
You would never know. Unless you choose to. If it helps, Jules lips always quirked upwards and the crease in their brows mellowed whenever her name rolled off their tongue.
Description : Kind almond shaped brown eyes. Long, thick lashes. Bow shaped lips. Arched eyebrows. High cheekbones. Straight blonde hair, reaching her back. Pale skin. Willowy frame. 5'10.
DYLAN JEANE. [he/him]
Jules' boyfriend, Dylan. Well, ex boyfriend now. He seems to harbour a deep dislike for you. No matter how hard he denies it— the slight tensing of the muscles in his jaw always give it away.
You had always been curious about him. Jules and him were an odd pair. How could Dylan be what Jules desired? They were polar opposites. Jules was tidal waves and traditional typhoons. He is ruddy sunsets and roseate dawns. He is habit, he is routine, he is rigid, he is never changing. A sad strange kind of tragedy. Jules was anything but that. Jules was everything at once. Jules was never the same. Jules was uneven. Jules was hurricanes and tsunamis.
There is a natural downwards turn to his lips, his shoulders always a little hunched as if the burdens of life have dripped down from the ceiling and chosen to settle like dust upon his shoulders. You wonder what weighs him down so terribly. He talks as if every breath he takes from his lungs rattles him to the core. Perhaps it does. He seems to have taken Jules' death as hard as you, if not worse.
Description : Short slicked back midnight black hair. Heavy lidded hazel eyes. Slender built. Wears rimless rectangular glasses occassionally. Angular face. Sharp lips. Upwards eyebrows. Fair skin. 6'1.
AIDEN HAMILTON. [he/him]
The second child of the sleazy mayor. Boy of many faces. You don't trust him one ounce. For good reasons. It irks you to watch his eyes glimmer as if you are a specimen that intrigues him. You don't trust the myriad of unhealthy secrets he hides behind his charming gaze, the sly smile that tugs off the corner of his lips or the disarming lilt of voice as his salty tongue rolls off silken threads of honeysuckle lies frictionlessly. It comes to him as naturally as breathing. The impurity of his father's gold taints him, it runs in his veins and he embraces it willfully.
He is hiding skeletons in his closets and everybody knows that. What it is however, is a different story.
Will he let you in on a secret?
Description : Unruly brown wavy hair, in a middle part. Luscious lips, heavy lower lip, a small faint and old scar at the corner of his mouth. S-shaped eyebrows. Sea green hooded eyes. Tanned complexion. V-shaped jaw. Toned build. 6'4.
HEATHER HAMILTON. [she/her]
Eldest child of the mayor. You are not particularly friends but she is not a bad company to have around either. You like her. You have met in passing and she always has a quick smile reserved for you. You know she is a dreamer with a pomegranate heart. She has also somehow inherited her mother's love of parties. Hers tend to be a little more wild and carefree, though. Just like her.
Uncharacteristically, she is also fond of painting. Will you be her muse?
Description : Straight brown hair in a bob cut. Hooded brown eyes. Heart shaped lips. Soft arch eyebrows. Skinny frame. Tanned complexion. Dimples on both cheeks. 5'7.
MIA MORGAN. [she/her]
Mia Morgan is the kind of girl who will rip your heart out, eat it raw and call it love. With midnight eyes of catlike grace that could rival any godforsaken abyss and lips richer and darker than the blood running in your veins, she's the kind of girl that would skin you alive and chew on your fickle heart but then kiss your eyelids and tell you 'good night, baby' and you would like a lovesick dog spiral back to her, yearning for more.
Why? Because you are a fool? No. Because she was Mia Morgan and Mia Morgan was born for seduction and playing with the strings of childish hearts. A holy ruination. Destruction in its most, enchanting, enrapturing form.
Will you let her destroy you?
Description : Wispy bangs, short hush cut, black hair. Dark cat eyes. Beauty mark on upper lip. Soft jaw. Chubby cheeks. Crimson pouty lips. Fair complexion. Curvaceous figure. 5'2.
Tumblr media
KIM SUJIN. [she/her]
She considers you a close friend, sharing every secret with you.
Description : Bronze skin, wide set brown eyes with gold flecks, button nose, freckles, curtain bangs, medium length chestnut brown hair. 5'3.
ARTHUR MORRIS. [he/him]
Aiden's friend. He's an asshole.
Description : Mahogany complexion, hollowed cheeks, has a stubble, ebony eyes, buzzcut, brawny. 6'1.
PARIS HILL. [he/him]
Local heartthrob. He looks handsome till he opens his mouth.
Description : Sunkissed complexion, wide lips, honey brown eyes, blonde hair in a fringe. Buff arms and broad back. Has an unhealthy obsession with shades. 5'10.
AUNT AUBURN MACKENZIE. [she/her]
She loves you dearly. There is nothing she wouldn't do for you.
Description : Brown hair, generally tied in a loose bun. Wrinkles near eyes and smiling lines around her mouth. Thin lips. Stout and a little hunched frame. Brown complexion. 5'1.
MOTHER. [she/her]
A woman with a twisted understanding of love. You haven't seen her in years and while you may have forgotten her face, her voice still rings crystal clear in your mind, like an old cassette on repeat.
FATHER. [he/him]
A man you knew but never quite understood. It is his face that stares back at you everytime you look in the mirror.
MAYOR JOHN HAMILTON. [he/him]
The mayor of Ravenwoods. It would serve you well to have him as an ally. Having strong connections has always proved to be useful.
Description : Beige skin. Hooked nose. Green eyes. Bushy brows. Short hair, close cropped. Smooth blonde hair. Plump frame. 5'8.
MEERA CHAUHAN HAMILTON. [she/her]
Wife of the mayor. She may be a little snobby but she means well. Most of the times. After all, who isn't a little selfish?
Description : Tanned complexion. Almond brown gold eyes. Brown hair wavy reaching her mid back. Slender frame. 5'10.
LAWRENCE HAWKINS. [he/him]
Father of the Hawkins siblings. You would rather not get involved with him.
Description : Pale skin. Blonde slicked back hair. Blue eyes. High cheek bones. Sharp jaw. Wears frameless rectangular glasses. 5'11.
AURORA HAWKINS. [she/her]
Mother of the Hawkins siblings. You would rather not get involved with her.
Description : Blonde hair, generally tied in a tight bun. Pale skin. Brown eyes. 5'9.
OFFICER RYAN DOUGLAS. [he/him]
He's a good man. He tries his best.
Description : Rosy complexion. Dark brown eyes. Short brown hair. Average build. 5'8.

You don’t mind Halloween because it’s one of your favorite holidays, and it’s fun. However, you can’t do ghosts, demons, and haunted houses. You get so easily spooked that you’ll cry like a baby. A secret about yourself, and it’s embarrassing. You never want to admit to your friends because they’ll either make bad jokes about you or think you’re a wimp.
Well, let’s see how it goes on October 31.
For your costume, you are Alice from the famous novel and film Alice In Wonderland. When looking at yourself through the body mirror, you can’t help but admire how cute you look. The pretty blue and white dress is flowy, the thigh stocks are comfy, and the pointed shoes are elegant. You also handmade a black bow headband. After fluffing your loose curls, you started to head out with your friends.
Throughout the night, it was any other trick-or-treating. Kids in costumes are running around in the neighborhoods and going door to door for candy.
“Hey, anyone dares to go to that house.” One of your friends, Sujin, points at the abandoned-looking place. With instant denial, you shook your head. “Let’s not. I heard it’s haunted.” You said.
Suddenly, you began to feel nervous.
“Don’t tell us you are scared, Y/N.” Another friend, Jaewoo, scoffs at you.
“Of course not!” You tried to oppose his statement, but internally, you are frightened. Two of your friends, Dohwan and Minseok, gave you sly smirks. Dohwan says, “Rock, paper, scissors, and the loser goes to that house alone.” He beckons his hand out.
At once, including you, joined in a circle. You are not going to have yourself look like a baby.
But unfortunately, the game is meant to be your fate. For some odd reason, your friends picked paper, and you picked rock.
Shortly enough, the five approached the dingy house, and they could see how long it had been abandoned—from the dead trees to the decayed outward. “Go on, Y/N. We’ll wait here.” Sujin promised you. “Be careful.” Minseok said. But for some reason it doesn’t genuine. After taking deep breaths, you timidly walk to the front door. When standing on the porch, you grab the doorknob. To your surprise, the door is unlocked. You open the door, and it creeks open like a cliche moment in a horror movie.
As you step inside, you are greeted by a dimmed living room. There are a lot of dust particles on the furniture and spider webs littered on the walls. You take out your phone from your small purse to turn on the flashlight. You mustered the courage to explore further into the house. You can also notice a fireplace in the same room with a skull, telescope, and an hourglass on the mantle. You went to the kitchen and recognized an empty box from a popular chicken restaurant on the dining table. You have to admit, without the creepy aura, it is a beautiful home.
But out of nowhere, the front door slams shut. You become alert and quickly run to the living room. You dropped your candy bag, purse, and phone on the ground to try opening the door. To your horror, it won’t budge.
“Guys! This isn’t funny! Please let me out!”
You shouted at the top of your lungs. On the other side, your friends are purposely trapping you. They snickered at your weak attempt to escape. After begging them and banging on the door with your fists, you just gave up. You picked up your phone and tried to dial 119, but there was no service. You are stuck in a supposedly haunted house.
You leaned against the door and slid down to the floor. Tears are building up in your eyes as your lips let out sobs. You hugged your legs and buried your face into your knees.
Unknowingly, a ghoul hovers over your crouched form. Its legs extend to have its feet on the surface and goes in the same position as you.
“Hey, why are you crying?”
A sweet-sounding voice questions out loud. You hear it and notice your gaze meets a handsome man with black and blonde hair in a low ponytail. His plump lips tug a loving smile. The ghoul gently wipes your tears away by using his thumb.
With a whimper, you managed to speak. “Who are you? Are you here to help me?”
You get an answer from the mysterious man. “My name is Wooyoung, and I can help you if you tell me why you are crying.” He doesn’t care about you being stuck in this house. He only cares about your upset behavior. You told Wooyoung of the whole situation, which was most likely a set-up by your friends. Or at least you knew they were your friends.
“They sound like assholes to me.” The ghoul frowns at the cruel intent of scaring a pretty girl.
You nodded your head that you couldn’t agree more.
Wooyoung sighs and stands straight. He then offers you a hand. You looked at it quizzically but still accepted it. Wooyoung helps you on your feet again. “You don’t need them. Me and the others would like to be close with you.” He is convinced that you deserve better. No friend should tease about another friend’s fears. You titled your head like a confused puppy after saying, ‘the others.’
He reads your expression and immediately understands you like an open book. “Oh, my bad! My friends and I live here. Now let me dazzle this place into something more light, Y/N.” Wooyoung highly believes his friends are impatient and mad that he is late to the party. They shouldn’t blame him because a gorgeous girl is holding his hand. Most importantly, she is not afraid anymore.
“Wait. How do you know my name?” You asked the ghoul.
He shrugs his shoulders. “I just know.” He told you so casually that it kind of made you at ease.
Wooyoung instructs you to close your eyes and let him do the magic. In a split second, your ears picked up the sound of male voices—more like scolding Wooyoung.
“What took you so damn long?”
“The food is getting cold!”
“Calm down! I brought us a guest!”
You open your eyes to discover seven hot and cute-looking guys. You also realize the house is no longer dark and ominous. It’s cozy, fun, and welcoming.
Wooyoung introduced you to his friends who are ghouls like him. They have such great personalities that you wouldn’t know they are mystical creatures of the night. They all acted like ordinary people and were very kind to you.
“Y/N, are you hungry? I got chicken.” Yeosang asks and shows his plate. Oh, so no wonder there was an empty box. You put a big smile on your face. “Sure, and thanks!” You appreciate the very adorable ghost.
After forgetting about the living, you never thought hanging out with the dead would be this enjoyable.
However, only one ghoul has eyes for you. The time when you first entered the house, Wooyoung’s unbeaten heart was bursting with happiness.

I've just finished reading @rumpleteasa's translated character notes from Beyond Evil's official script book (thank you once again for all of your hard work 🫶🏻) and there are two details that stood out to me.
I think these were initially written in by Kim Sujin with the intent to have these expanded on the actual show as relevant to the plot, but for whatever reason was scrapped from the show, quite possibly because of lack of time.
Beyond Evil was slated to have only 16 episodes after all, so they had to compress Kim Sujin's initial script—though I think if they had more episodes, it would've been worth expanding on, if only to also spotlight these characters more and give even more depth to the story.
Nam Sangbae was in love with Han Jeongim, Jaeyi's mother
You can read the full details in the translated script book, but this specific detail, had it been expanded in the show, would've been another (and more convincing) red herring written in possibly spotlighting Nam Sangbae as a possible suspect in Han Jeongim's disappearance: a crime of passion borne out of heartbreak.
It would've also explained why Jaeyi was so terrified of Nam Sangbae after she saw him at the station the night she was also supposed to kill Kang Jinmook. There would've been more of a suspicion why Nam Sangbae wanted Kang Jinmook killed, because of the possibility that he could've been Han Jeongim's killer and wanted to silence Kang Jinmook before he could reveal the truth, much in the same way when Jinmook revealed to Dongsik that he wasn't actually his sister's killer.
2. Bang Juseon possibly tried to seduce Lee Changjin
The script book's character notes expanded on her character a little bit more and said that "she was trying to seduce some old guy who made a fortune in the development boom" in order to "give her rotten father some pocket money."
There are two "old guys" in the story who is said to have made a fortune in the development boom: Lee Changjin and Han Kihwan (through marrying into Lee Suyeon's family).
Reading the notes, it's more likely that this old guy she tried to seduce was Lee Changjin, which, had it been expanded in the story, would've also been another red herring painting Lee Changjin as her murderer.
It also now makes more sense why Kang Jinmook decided to kill her: he sees her also as somewhat of a "slut" or a "whore", which he hated seeing in women. He also hated Han Jeongim for it, his perception of these women as seductresses who need to be "punished".
If you also connect this to Nam Sangbae's character notes, it's possible also that the "man" Han Jeongim was supposed to meet up with at Mount Simu, where Kang Jinmook killed her, was in fact Nam Sangbae, who was now trying to court her and win her over again now that her husband has died.
Which, again, also would've spotlighted Nam Sangbae as further of a suspect in Kang Jinmook's death if he wanted to kill Jinmook out of heartbroken revenge.
This actually makes sense in the story too, but perhaps in the end the showrunners decided to have Sangbae focused purely on his relationship with Dongsik.
While having Sangbae focused on Dongsik had also been a good decision story-wise, I would've still also liked to have seen this backstory of his love for Jaeyi's mother play out, because it does give Sangbae more dimension and depth as a character, one who had his own heartbreaks and losses to deal with too.
And it would also explain why Sangbae was the one who had consistently established Jaeyi's butcher shop as their constant meeting place: perhaps in some way, he was also honoring Jaeyi's mother, and was also secretly hoping to find her, too.
It would also strengthen the idea of Dongsik and Jaeyi as pseudo-siblings—parallel to the pseudo-sibling relationship between Joowon and Hyeok—if Sangbae sees Jaeyi as his surrogate daughter too, out of his love for her mother, similar to how he sees Dongsik as his surrogate son.
That would've been a beautiful concept too: the parallelism of Dongsik and Jaeyi both losing their own biological families, yet somehow they have both managed to forge a new family all their own under the care of Sangbae.
2.B Bang Juseon's possible affair with Han Kihwan
This is actually the less likely scenario, but still an interesting possibility had Kim Sujin and the showrunners decided to go down this path.
Because Han Kihwan values the "image" of perfection in his life, he couldn't possibly have it revealed to the media that he had an affair with a younger woman, so when Kang Jinmook killed her, it gives him a double purpose to have the Munju case covered up because it hits two birds with one stone: his hit and run case with Lee Yuyeon, and this possible affair with Bang Juseon.
It'll also make more sense why it was both Juseon's and Yuyeon's death that were highlighted in the beginning, because of the possibility that both deaths all lead back to Han Kihwan, making him double of a Devil than he already is.
However, I can also see why, for storytelling purposes, it was whittled down to have Kihwan's sins focused on his sins against Dongsik. It gives the story more focus that way, especially with regard to Dongsik, who is the show's central lead.

Steve Albini
The late Steve Albini was many things: musician, engineer, longtime punk, unrepentant gadfly, eventually repentant edgelord, one-time recipe blogger, pretty good poker player, excoriating essayist, late-career Twitter personality, and general opinion-haver–but not, he insisted, a producer. (He’d probably have some specific words to aim at all the obits calling him one.) Producers, he argued, were generally charlatans, in it for the wrong reasons. They could care about music, in theory; they just didn’t have to. And Steve Albini was, perhaps above all, a person who cared.
Albini shaped a tremendous swath of the pantheon of punk and alternative rock – though he’d perhaps say that the pantheon shaped itself by itself, and he was just there to facilitate. The volume and breadth of music he facilitated was so vast we’d never be able to cover it all. So in the spirit of his lifelong egalitarianism, we present songs spanning the many decades of his career by both major artists and cult faves, critical giants and deep cuts, canonical highlights and highlights of our own musical worlds. We like to think it’s what he’d have wanted. If not, we’re sure he’d have something to say.

chapter three: it went... great?
Tumblr media
the word of a girl group joining the hybe family reached the ears of existing hybe groups. they pondered about the new edition and potential new friendships that could form.
"have you guys hear about a girl group joining hybe?" jungwon turned his screen to the rest of the boys.
niki raised his brow. "no? i swear we live under a rock."
"what are they called?" jay asked, leaning in closer to get a better look at jungwon's screen.
"i think kayo."
"i heard they said we have to greet them or welcome them something like that." jake added.
"that's awkward, let me see the picture." sunghoon grabbed his phone. he fell silent, zooming into the screen.
"what, do you know them?" sunoo asked.
"no. but one of them looks like this girl i used to know." he handed the phone back.
"chaerin, zena, haru, jie, sujin." jungwon read the names off.
"chaerin." sunghoon whispered to himself. he brushed it off thinking the chance of it being her was impossible.
"everyone!" their manager interrupted. "get up and greet your juniors."
Tumblr media
"meeting enhypen themselves, wow." haru whispered.
"girl, you sound like a fan. we need to act like colleagues." jie whispered back.
chaerin stayed behind everyone despite being the leader. she didn't want to imagine the horrors of introducing the group to him herself.
"chaerin stop being a baby. you go in first." sujin pulled her forward, but she resisted.
"zena, i think you should go first." chaerin suggested.
"ugh, whatever." haru took the first steps inside the room.
"hello!" they all bowed, chaerin continuing to hide behind everyone.
the girls began introducing themselves individually, making chaerin feel like banging her head against the wall.
"hi, i'm chaerin." unfortunately for her, the girls moved aside, giving her a clear view, and, of course, she found herself directly in front of sunghoon.
she made eye contact with him for a millisecond before her gaze darted to the ground.
"show them around the building, you guys. don't be awkward strangers," their manager requested before leaving them alone.
they awkwardly laughed and stood in silence for ten seconds before heeseung cleared his throat. "shall we start the tour?"
the girls followed behind them, mostly making small talk about their old company building being a closet in comparison.
chaerin watched sunghoon from a distance. although she felt a bit like a creep, it had been so long since she had seen him in person. she observed every aspect that had changed about him. he was no longer the kid she used to skate with. she watched his mannerisms as he walked, noting how he looked for ways to place his arms while casually glancing around the area.
"chaerin, right?" jungwon walked in the back alongside her. "i'm the leader too, jungwon."
she shook his hand and gave him a smile. "of course jungwon. you're famous, you know."
they walked in awkward silence afterward. chaerin struggled to figure out how to strike up a conversation with someone she had never met. even her body tensed up as she became overly conscious of how her actions might be perceived.
"you remind me of sunghoon." jungwon laughed.
"really? why?"
"he acts really awkward with new people. i think you guys would get along. sunghoon, come here!" he called sunghoon over, who was walking alone. he hesitantly walked over to the two, awkwardly putting his hands in his pockets. "sunghoon, chaerin. chaerin, sunghoon."
they gave each other stiff half smiles and half hearted bows to each other.
"come on, get to know each other." jungwon pushed them closer before leaving the two alone.
chaerin took in a sharp breath before they continued walking alongside each other. "you don't have to walk with me."
"why wouldn't i want to?" sunghoon asked.
"i don't know? forget i said anything." she wanted to crawl in a hole and die. she didn't expect to be talking to him directly this fast. it felt like she was thrown to the wolves.
"do you not want to walk with me?"
"no! i mean no. that's not what i meant. i just didn't want to make anything awkward for you." she shrugged.
"it's okay." he laughed. "i was just playing."
chaerin let out a sigh of relief. "i was prepared to walk on egg shells."
"so."
"so."
they watched their members ahead of them conversing and looking in different rooms.
i guess we're just gonna ignore the elephant in the room, she though to herself.
heeseung and jie exchanged a quick glance as they observed the pair walking alongside each other. surprisingly, there was little hint of awkwardness in their demeanor. they knew their friends well, and any discomfort would likely be dismissed with a simple clearing of throats before they walked independently. yet, an invisible force seemed to act as a magnetic pull between them. when sunghoon had initially joined her, they stood a couple of feet apart, but now they were nearly brushing shoulders.
"how much you wanna bet they start dating?" jie playfully nudged heeseung.
heeseung was caught off guard by her directness. "oh! does she have a crush on him or something?"
"i had a vision," she deadpanned.
heeseung stared at her, attempting to decipher her expression.
"i'm just playing! loosen up a bit!" she chuckled at his reaction.

later that day, both groups remained in the building but went their separate ways after the welcome tour. some of them exchanged contact information for any future queries, expressing their gratitude to the boys for assisting them in getting adapted to the company.
as the other girls ate together, chaerin chose to explore the surroundings, curious about what she might have missed while lagging behind the group. she discreetly peeked into rooms, attempting not to appear too intrusive, and at some point, even entertained the idea of "accidentally" crossing paths with newjeans during her self-guided tour.
one of the rooms was rather dim, so she assumed it was empty and walked in. you can only imagine her shock when she spotted none other than park sunghoon. he was resting his head on the table, engrossed in his phone.
"god! i'm sorry. i thought no one was in here." chaerin quickly apologized, even offering a slight bow to him.
"it's alright, i was just killing time," he reassured her, patting the chair beside him.
chaerin gave him an inquisitive look, squinting her eyes slightly, before walking over to the empty chair beside him.
"what do you wanna do?" chaerin swiveled the chair to face him. she felt all the uneasiness surrounding being around him again leave her body. if he wasn't going to act weird about, why should she?
he unlocked his phone and showed her what he was watching when she walked in. it was a video of their very last competition together four years ago. they had won gold, as expected. chaerin held that memory dear to her heart, she was touched to see that sunghoon felt the same.
"if i tried that today, i would've dislocated my hip." she laughed.
sunghoon nudged her. "i'm sure you would've landed it easily."
"these bones don't work like they used to, i'm afraid." she stretched out her arms.
they continued scrolling through old competition footage, reminiscing on the old days.
"you were so adorable omg," chaerin mindlessly commented.
"were?" he raised his brow.
"i mean you're more manly now, so i don't think that's the right word."
"i think handsome is the right word," he dramatically brushed his hair back.
"yeah okay arrogance," she rolled her eyes.
"i mean you've grown quite, um, pretty." he averted his gaze.
"is park sunghoon calling me pretty?" chaerin poked his side. she played it cool, but in reality it felt like her stomach was on fire. what was more nerve wracking? sunghoon calling her pretty? or him being shy about it.
the two went their separate ways after an hour of banter and a trip down memory lane. they both were quite nervous to meet again, but their worries were put to rest once they actually spoke to each other. as much as chaerin hates to admit it, she's glad that she reconnected with him as if nothing happened. she did harbor resentment towards him, but his warm smile towards her melted her once ice cold heart.

Chapter Five: I'm Alone Now, Jagiya
Summary: Kang Hyunyul has had a good life since he left the Jindo gang. But when he finds out that Do Jin is going to be temporarily released, he's stressed and the return of an old flame triggers familiar feelings and with them, the old memories of the only real thing of his complicated past. All while she was saving his life, literally putting her life on the line. Chapter Summary: Hyunyul and Sujin meet again and Hyunyul questions his limited knowledge of the past. Warning: Mentions of violence and that's mostly it, i think. Tell me in the comments if I missed anything. A/N: Timeskip to after Hyunyul has gone to college yay! I'm assuming that Hyunyul got into a prestigious college lol. Also after some research that didn't rly tell me much, I'm guessing that all of these people have those keypad phones. The timeline may not be accurate, so just bear with me, pls and thx.
Tumblr media
A few years later.
Hyunyul was farely content. He'd learned sign language diligently so that he could communicate with Yichan and his girlfriend, Cheongah. He'd gotten into a very good institution after school.
And Dojin hadn't been any trouble after the school incident.
Currently, they were all taking a gap year to relax before starting to look for work, so they were able to meet every weekend. Cheongah took them all to a nice, quaint cafe that had opened up a few years ago.
They were all sitting on a table, talking to each other.
"Hello, welcome to Jiha's Cafe. I'll be your server today, what would you like to have?"
The kind, welcoming voice caught Hyunyul off guard as he almost broke his neck, turning to see the person.
Jang Sujin.
He saw surprise flash in her face at seeing him as well. Everyone ordered their food and when Yichan and Cheongah's turn came, they pointed at the name in the menu card. She immediately pocketed her little notepad and started signing.
"I know sign language, so you can talk to me in that way."
Her knuckles were bruised, he noticed. She had a fresh cut on her forehead too, he noticed. She'd cut her hair a bit shorter, her dark locks were only reaching till her neck now. But, she looked... different. There were dark circles which were enough to show her tiredness, but her gaze was so energetic that he almost missed it.
"What can I get you, sir?" She asked. He realised that the question was pointed towards him so he chose a dish that he'd already decided.
Upon hearing, he could've sworn she smiled softly, like she expected it.
The door opened with a bang, revealing a man in casual clothes, heaving breaths.
"Am I late? Is she gone?" He asked Sujin. Sujin only gave him a withering look and shook her head. He sighed out in relief and sat down on a table.
She immediately slammed her hand down on the table, glaring at him. She probably threatened him, because his eyes widened.
"Hey, you can't treat me like that! I'm seven years older than you!"
"I don't care. Either confess to her now and keep coming back to eat my dishes or get out. I'm getting tired of the longing gazes. And her just gushing about you every time she gets the chance."
"Kyungmi-shi gushes about me? What does she say?"
She groaned and clenched her fists. "If you weren't a brother figure for me, I would've killed you a long time ago. Ugh."
He turned back with a smile as she yelled out to Kyungmi to go take her future boyfriend's order.
Yichan gestured for me and signed, "Do you know her?"
Hyunyul only shook his head and signed back, "Not that well. She's just an acquaintance."
The bruises and cut made him think though. Was she still in the gang? Maybe Dojin was making her work even after she left?
Thought you'd never look back, Hyunyul. What're you doing right now?
Hyunyul was caught off guard both by the thought and because he'd placed scalding hot food in his mouth. His panic made everyone laugh as he forgot his doubts and just got into the moment.
An hour or so later, they were put of the hotel, walking towards their houses. Hyunyul had bought a bike after saving up a lot of money. He patted his pockets and realised that his keys were missing. He jogged back to the hotel, entering silently, not wanting to make his presence known.
"Dojin tried to break out, y'know?" He heard the man from earlier say and he paused, his hand poised over his keys. "You're sure you don't need protection?"
"It's not that easy to break out of jail, oppa. Plus, you're there to keep me updated."
"Sujin, from what I heard, he's very angry. What if he does break out and tries to kill you? What'll you do, then?"
She grunted dismissively, and even if he couldn't see it, he knew that she batted her hand.
"Let him try. I'm nothing if not a fighter."
"Yeah I can see that. Who the hell did you fight this time?"
"Ehhhh, just some guys."
The conversation shifted, prompting Hyunyul to pocket his keys thoughtfully.
So, Dojin was in jail for good? When had that happened?
Last he'd heard was that he'd been caught trying to sell drugs. Had he been tried and sentenced to a few years in jail?
But if he was angry at Sujin, then it could mean that....
Oh.
He paused, his feet dragging against the road as his eyes widened, staring at the ground as his heartbeat got faster.
Had it all been... an act?
♬♩♪♩ ♩♪♩♬
Sujin wiped the sweat off her forehead when she was home just above the cafe, sighing out a quick breath. She switched on the light, thankful for being able to afford it with the loans and everything else.
She fell on the couch, staring at the ceiling, loneliness starting to creep onto her quickly.
Her mother passed away a year ago. Without her, she didn't really like coming back. There was nothing to come back to, really, so she was always trying to keep the cafe open as late as she could.
But ever since Ha Kyungmi had started working there, she always succeeded in shooing the younger woman out, demanding that she close shop and head home.
"She's a good match for Yojun oppa, honestly," she murmured.
But she still was lonely in her house, with no one to talk to and no one to rant to. So, she only got up to wash the dishes.
As she did, though, her mind couldn't help but wander to earlier in the evening.
He still liked the same dishes. He still laughed the same. He was still a bit clumsy.
He really hasn't changed.
She smiled softly and sighed, wiping her forehead again and hissing because of the cut on there.
She sighed deeply again, for the burly men will be back the next day to ask for the money again.
"Shouldn't have taken the loan, mom was right," she murmured again, falling onto the bed after dinner, deciding to let go of the worries for now.
I'll be taking a nap and nothing will disturb me.

who would have thought that bin taeran would ever be found happily working at a restaurant? well, temporarily, at least. it would come as a shock to her as it would to anyone else that knew taeran, had they told her that before she had met sujin's mom. she had always been nothing but nice to her and, without realizing, taeran had simply grown attached — and that was how she had ended up here, helping sujin finish everything to close up. having completed her latest task, taeran turned back to him with hands placed on her hips as she blew her bangs away from her eyes with puffed cheeks. " okay, what's next on the list now? "

"be on your best behavior, alright? if this works out for you, you'll be livin' it up. trust me." serghei takes another inhale of his cigarette as they make their way to noel's château. the gardenias of her estate are in bloom, the fragrance tickling the eldest dhampir's sensitive nose. getting up to this point had been more challenging than serghei would have wanted it to be. noel huffed and puffed over getting a pet they hadn't picked out themself, and although sujin had been agreeable thus far, serghei was cranky traveling without noori and missed his husband dearly. the things he did for his little sisters.
he's made sure to get the dragon a tailored suit for his first meeting with noel, some pastel pink accents dotted here and there with a ribbon tying his bangs back. serghei wanted to be there for their first meeting, ever the watchful big brother. he had shared very little of noel to sujin, and very little of sujin to noel. in fact, they didn't even know what the other looked like. they were both going in with little to no expectations. however, he knew noel had rather high standards despite this.
a maid greets the pair at the door as serghei puts out his cigarette in a tray at the entrance. they're guided to the tea room, and the maid assures noel will be down soon. serghei thanks her (complimenting her manners as well) in french before exhaling impatiently once she takes her leave. leave it to noel to keep him waiting. "you don't speak french, do you?" he asks sujin as he leans against a rococo detailed wall, arms crossed and already itching for another smoke.

MIDNIGHT BAKING SESSION @lgcsoji
Tumblr media
In Sujin's dream, he was invited to a exquisite dessert buffet in what appeared to be...Heaven. An angel lined his rectangular plate with numerous macarons and he was just about to bite into one when he woke up.
Who was making all that noise? How dare they interrupt him from his extra sweet slumber?
Sujin rose quietly, bare feet soundless on the wooden floor as he made his way toward the ruckus. Whoever it was, his eyes flashed with a hint of demonic (?) rage, they better have a real good reason...
Oh!
It would appear that his new dormmate Sojin was baking a cake. No wonder he could still smell something sweet despite waking up. Sujin raked his bangs back, his eyes instantly friendlier as he took a seat at the table. He gave Sojin a look that was both hopeful and expectant, because he was too shy to verbalize his request. Offer me cake, he willed the other silently with his mind. Offer me. Cake.
And no, he didn't care why this guy was baking in the middle of the night. To Sujin, any time was a good time for baking purposes and this was completely acceptable behavior.

Love is communal—and so is Evil: The inextricable storylines of Beyond Evil
A lot has already been said in praise of the masterpiece that is Beyond Evil, but for me personally, what makes it rise above its contemporaries more than anything is its actual best asset: its tightly-written flawless storytelling.
There's a reason Beyond Evil won Best Screenplay by Kim Sujin at the 57th Baeksang Awards because the story and script really is compelling enough to appeal to both the cerebral and the emotional—the story is unfolded and wrapped up in a manner that is both logical and heartwarming, appealing to the audience's intelligence and humanity.
What's even more fascinating about the plot is that normally with detective series, it showcases different individual cases that don't necessarily relate to each other, even as it pushes the character development forward; but with Beyond Evil, all of its subplots merge into one cohesive whole because the story isn't written simply for character and relationship development, but the story itself is spotlighted as the actual main star of the show as a psychological thriller.
No matter how many times you rewatch the series, you'll be hard pressed to find a plot hole as the writer made use of all 16 episodes to ensure that every single aspect of the mystery is covered.
Most of all, the most incredible part of the writing of the story is that every single character had a reason to be there, and not just for mere foils of the lead or as simple background characters. Every single character had been essential to the unfolding of the plot, and every single character each had their own significant roles, motivations, and even their own history.
And each of their individual choices are exactly what affects the whole story, precisely because the show made it clear that each individual action cannot be made in isolation: everything we do affects the lives of everyone else.
That's the stark duality that Beyond Evil was able to portray: that everything is communal.
Love is communal. Everything we do (and don't do) contributes to the happiness of everyone else.
And conversely: Evil is also communal. Everything we do (and don't do) contributes to the destruction of everyone else.
Lee Dongsik subplot - how he was wrongfully accused in the murder of the murder of Bang Juseon and Lee Yuyeon, and how he was a victim of police brutality, including (but not limited to) Nam Sangbae
Kang Minjeong subplot - her untimely murder and how Dongsik tampered with the crime scene to eventually bring to light her own father as the real serial killer of Manyang
Lee Geumhwa subplot - her untimely murder at the hands of Kang Jinmook, as part of his bigger agenda to kill all the prostitutes within the circle of Yoon Mihye as his revenge for her abandoning him and for suspecting that she had her child with another man
Oh Jihoon subplot - how he ratted out Dongsik to the press to protect Park Jeongje, and also to protect himself in denying that he wasn't Minjeong's stalker, and how he was instrumental in establishing the characters of Lee Dongsik and Yoo Jaeyi as good people
Yoo Jaeyi subplot - how in her attempt to kill Kang Jinmook, she found herself embroiled in a lot more than what she bargained for and escaped to Busan, and how she was established as a mirror image of Lee Dongsik as the family left behind of the victims of the serial killings
Nam Sangbae subplot - how in his dual pursuit of Yoo Jaeyi and the truth from Kang Jinmook eventually led him into inadvertently digging up loopholes in the cases that pressured the people involved in fabricating evidence to silence him permanently
Lee Sangyeob subplot - how in his brazen and well-meaning yet illegal pursuit of a suspect brought into light the motivations why Lee Dongsik made those choices in tampering with Kang Minjeong's fingers, as well as brought a deeper understanding of Dongsik's character and the flaws of the justice system
Cho Gilgu subplot - how Do Haewon used him as a middle man in arranging the fabricated evidence to protect her son from being implicated in the scene of the crime
Lee Kangja subplot - how her gambling practices eventually helped Jihwa and Dongsik in gaining access to Cho Gilgu's bank accounts in their attempt to trace Do Haewon's payments
Hwang Gwangyoung subplot - a minor red herring in his suspicious actions that showed his ambition to be transferred to Seoul, while also being the one to first point out Joowon's suspicious involvement in Lee Geumhwa's murder as well as his disappearance afterwards
Park Jeongje subplot - how he ran over Lee Yuyeon's dead body and how he was brainwashed into believing he remembered differently, and how he eventually owned up to his crime after 21 years when it was finally uncovered by his own friends
Do Haewon subplot - how in protecting her son she also inadvertently set up Dongsik as the wrongfully accused suspect, and also enabled Kang Jinmook to have a place to hide bodies of all the women he murdered for 21 years
Lee Changjin subplot - how in his innocent ambition to establish apartments and a city of his own, he found himself embroiled within both Han Kihwan's and Park Jeongje's hit and run, eventually killing Kang Jinmook, Nam Sangbae, and Jung Cheolmun in order to protect those secrets
Oh Jihwa subplot - how her former marriage to Lee Changjin made him susceptible into cooperating with the investigation as long as she's involved, and how she's the one who's been rightfully doubting both Jeongje's and Dongsik's true roles in the cases, all while dutifully pushing the cases forward working alongside Kang Dosoo
Jung Cheolmun subplot - how he manipulated and blackmailed both Do Haewon and Han Kihwan to protect his own corrupt practices, which eventually lead to his own murder when he also attempted to blackmail Lee Changjin
Kwon Hyeok subplot - how he inadvertently worked for both sides—working at Han Kihwan's behest while also doing favors for Han Joowon—of which his contributions all became instrumental into eventually discovering the truth
Im Seonnyeo subplot - how her insights about all victim's bodies eventually lead to the truth of how they were killed, and by whom
Im Gyuseok subplot - how his character shows how media sensationalize their reports in the guise of pursuing the truth, as he was instrumental in revealing Dongsik's identity as a suspect (when Jihoon ratted Dongsik out to him) as well as the attempt to uncover Jung Cheolmun's corrupt practices
Lee Suyeon subplot - how the revelation of her suffering at Han Kihwan's hands revealed how her perceived abandonment of her own child shaped how Han Joowon saw motherhood and relationships with people in general, as well as revealed why Han Kihwan was willing to join hands with Lee Changjin and Do Haewon in their ambition to develop Munju
Bang Juseon subplot - how her interaction with Lee Dongsik in the beginning established the red herring of his character as a suspect, and how her father's grief and eventual dementia served to be driving inspiration in the end for Han Joowon to seek repentance and reparation in this manner
Han Kihwan subplot - how all his actions and decisions in the show were all to cover up his hit and run case 21 years ago, at any and all cost
Han Joowon subplot - how in his initial attempt to own up to his accountability in Lee Geumhwa's death eventually led to him unearthing a serial murder and catching a serial killer—as well as discovering a hit and run case by his own father whom he eventually brought to justice.
All throughout the story of Beyond Evil, all of these characters and all their own individual stories are all inextricably entangled to show the communal story of love, loss, injustice, redemption, and home.
How love is communal—and how evil is communal.
And how justice is communal, too.
It starts with Lee Dongsik—and it ends with Han Joowon.

JO1 - "LOVE SEEKER"
youtube
That's pronounced "jay-oh-one," not "joy" as today's editor believed until just a minute ago...
[5.30]
Taylor Alatorre: The question of whether a Japanese band can make K-pop music brings to mind tedious online arguments about whether things like Code Lyoko and RWBY can properly be considered anime. Maybe it's just my paternalistic Yankee mindset that assigns any sort of importance to this question -- let a hundred NCTs bloom if that's what today’s Japanese audiences really want from their idols. It should be possible to make a corporate workaround to cultural import restrictions sound sexier or at least less constipated than this, though. [4]
Isabel Cole: Infectiously effusive, with some great rhythmic touches slinking, clicking, and banging away throughout, keeping things feeling busy but never crowded, like a party with exactly the right amount of guests. The vocals commit so energetically that the bits that could feel corny just feel fun, a big silly game we're all invited to join. [9]
Nortey Dowuona: It feels inert. I've played it three times and am listening to it now, one of the boys is sanging his ass off, and it feels like a fan circling behind me. [4]
Jonathan Bradley: What if "Can't Stop the Feeling" had a "Can't Stop the Feeling"? [4]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: It’s not these guys’ fault, really -- boy bands have been putting out lite funk since the dawn of funk. But at this point this style sounds less like music and more like cosmic background radiation, a wallpaper of sound that I associate more with podcast ad bumpers and other forms of strictly functional music than anything worthy of review. [3]
TA Inskeep: A smart, absurdly catchy three minutes that mashes at least four songs together with live-sounding drums, crossing both pure pop and pop-rock, and ends up sounding like a sibling to peak-era One Direction.  [7]
Alfred Soto: The rhythm guitars and percussive instruments signify "funk," but "Love Seeker" is as funky as Mike Pence. Play "Love Seeker" between a couple of, say, Harry Styles' fast ones from his last album and it makes sense. Brief, bright, banal -- solid pop. [7]
Aaron Bergstrom: As much as I try to fight it, I'm still a sucker for a clickbait-y headline, and "Why Do Animals Keep Evolving into Crabs?" really scratched that itch for a science-illiterate lit major. (The answer is something called "carcinization.") As far as the more pressing question, "Why Do Different Genres Keep Evolving Into 'Uptown Funk'?", I'm not sure if science has cracked that one yet. [5]
Katherine St. Asaph: I can't tell whether this is pastiching the same funk and new jack swing Bruno Mars did, or skipping a step and just pastiching Bruno Mars instead. The charms are similar. [6]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: I really want to give this a higher score because the delivery is so suave, but I can’t when the first thing I intuit from the beat is buying cars for my local Toyota-thon.  [4]

°•🍓 -> 📰 News!
Tumblr media
Release date : September 23, 2023
BLACKPINK, consisting of the members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Sujin, have just finished their world tour with a bang in the Gocheok Sky Dome. And this leaves the fans of the world wide girl group with one burning question. What's next?
The girls of BLACKPINK's contract has been under discussion since august, and besides messages that the contracts are still unsure YG entertainment has released no official statement regarding confirmation of the contract renewal.
Understandbly, the fans of the girl group have found themselves rather anxious for the unforseeable future. All kinds of rumors have risen about the four girls and their possible renewal, or even departure.
The member Sujin has been reported on several different occasions to be considering leaving the company. And insiders say she's gotten plenty of offers from differing companies, both inside of Korea and outside of it.
With these rumors surfacing many fans have taken to methodically searching through the members their lives, where several members drop vague hints which may be taken as hinting towards a renewal the idol herself having given their fans a hint too.
'We're not going anywhere'
'We have some very exciting news to share with you!'
And while these can't be taken as confirmation, many fans still find hope in these small hints. Disregarding the rumors as in the end. They are just rumors.
Many fans have taken Sujin's new solo comeback as silent contract renewal confirmation. But many also argue that she could have already signed with a differing company.
Among all these rumors, there's also rumors of a 'together yet seperate' contract with the girls. Where they're under different agencies, but continue group activities for 6 months in a year. And even rumors about the girls starting their own agency have arose.
Whatever the final outcome may be, we wish these girls good luck on their coming journey and activities.
